Fun throwback to the 2000s era of adventure films! Good chemistry between Bullock, Tatum, and Pitt!

The Lost City is a funny, generic and predictable adventure movie, with plenty of laughs and exciting set pieces to keep you entertained for 100 minutes.

Not all of the comedy lands, but some really good segments stand out and you know them when you hear them.

Overall a fun, quirky movie that can entertain, even if it is an entirely nonsense story, despite that story being pretty unique. Overall, give it a watch, but don't expect a stellar movie.

This is by no means a bad film and there are fun elements, but the "serious" parts of the film seem very generic. Overall, a film to turn your brain off to and enjoy at face value.

This movie has an interesting theme where a reclusive author, Loretta hides her ideas of a fantasy novel from society as a surprise. While promoting her new novel, she is faced with exaggeration when a lunatic kidnaps her and Loretta faces visualized aspects from her novel on an island. The contemplations this film had me wondering if an imagination of an author had a perfect scenario for Loretta to reflect vividly on characters that she created and what she would be able to do with the materiality of them.
It feels like this film wanted to have a little simultaneous competition with "Uncharted" and as I see it, the visuals here required less effort than in "Uncharted", while that movie had a plot that was more befogging and this film followed through better.

Definitely fun at times and goes by like a breeze. Great performances by Tatum, Pitt, and Bullock. The scenes that are meant to be serious lag far behind the rest of the movie.

I must admit that The Lost City may be many things, but one of them is not being fake. What it offers is what it is: simple, straightforward and uncomplicated.
Fast food movie with no nutritional benefit, but will give you enough calories to pass the time. Not the best of analogies, but it's basically the crudest and simplest way to explain it.

Neither Sandra Bullock, nor Channing Tatum work with anything that really gets them to do something genuinely funny, so they resort to the best they can to move the thing along, while Daniel Radcliffe is basically a 2.0 version of what he did in Now You See Me 2.
The funniest character was Brad Pitt and he's only there for a little while, so there's not much to say about that.

It won't revive the genre it's trying to emulate, but as I said, its ambitions are so basic that what it delivers is enough to satisfy anyone looking for quick, uncomplicated entertainment.

When she's kidnapped by a billionaire searching for a lost treasure (Daniel Radcliffe), he sets out to rescue her. Naturally, it's up to their chemistry to make this movie appeal. Bullock is trying hard for laffs, while Tatum's bumbling character works, thanks' to his amusing charm. Da'Vine Joy Randolph, as the manager, adds a few moments of humor, while Brad Pitt enjoys his swashbuckling cameo. The entire plot is obvious and their situations often ridiculous, so it's up to the script to add a fresh take. Sadly, it depends more on the actors' abilities than on witty writing. While the pacing never lags, there's not much clever or original to help this Lost City find its comic footing. NOTE: Stay thru the early credits for one final Brad Pitt moment Expand

Sadly the action sequences were underwhelming and the script and screenplay was very weak. Overall it just didn't bring anything fresh enough to the genre to be anything above the average mark. Perhaps if they'd gone all in on the premise or the romance aspect it could've landed a bit stronger than it did. Missed opportunity! Expand

It tries to be a little Lara Croft, a little Indiana Jones, and a little bit of your favorite romance movie (whatever that may be). Unfortunately, it fails pretty bad at all of them, and really lacks its own identity. It had a few funny parts. The action was drab and boring, and the main villain is hardly believable as a threat. There is also a LOT of identity politics strewn throughout the film. If this is something which bothers you in a film, be prepared. It's everywhere in this one. Otherwise, it would have been a rental. Nothing here warrants paying the price of admission to see. No good special effects or action, no good humor, no chemistry really between the characters, and a boring story. All the movies this one tries to be, are far better. Save your money. Expand

Sharp humor and genuine chemistry between Tatum and Bullock make this a pretty fun popcorn watch. It should be mentioned that the film could've used some editing, a two hour runtime for this subject matter ran a little longer than it needed to. Also the CGI was atrocious but that's practically a standard in modern films. All in all, I'd recommend The Lost City for a fun date flick. There's a nice blend of comedy, romance, and even a bit of action that should keep a variety of viewers entertained. You could do a lot worse in today's film climate. Expand

If you don't have (or worse: if it suits you not to have) new ideas, parody the old ones. In adventure cinema, perhaps this current trend began with the movies with "The Rock", and "The Lost City" does not deviate from such approach by adding to it a metareferential element: the love story between the couple of protagonists has the upper hand over the adventure just like in the novels written by the character of the 57-year-old Bullock. So in in essence it's a normal romcom but disguised as who knows what (a suggestion: Zemeckis).

It had it's comical moments however much of the humor felt overly "modern" and a bit cringe. Also, being a modern Hollywood movie, you'll never believe it, but there's a bunch of woke dialogue slipped into it throughout it's run-time. Lines about being a "feminist" or western colonization, yada yada. Some of these lines are delivered comedically so could be excused while others really felt unnecessarily forced into the movie to subliminally push "the message" (as Critical Drinker calls it). “The Lost City” is an interesting take on the classic treasure hunting story, as it presents itself as more of a freewheeling jaunt than a suspense-driven tomb crawler. While some moments of expected peril still persist, the film as a whole“The Lost City” is an interesting take on the classic treasure hunting story, as it presents itself as more of a freewheeling jaunt than a suspense-driven tomb crawler. While some moments of expected peril still persist, the film as a whole goes out of its way to assume a more subdued approach that fits with the characters and narrative.

The plot overall is concise and imaginative, though the climactic moments could have been stronger had a more serious outlook been utilized: an example of this would be the direction that was taken for the main antagonist. While their repercussions are negligible and vague, a more fitting demise that could have stemmed from their blind arrogance and drive for notoriety would have been more memorable.

The humor throughout the film acts as a good counterweight for the somber tones introduced off and on in the main character’s arch, and it lands decently overall. Minus a few gratuitous moments that could have been cut, most of the comedic output meshes well with the action and storyline.

One point of dissonance that unfortunately cropped up several times involved the poor build up and execution of moments dealing with the fate of a reoccurring side character. Twice, when two different supporting characters seemingly met their end, the story presented the scenes so abruptly that they felt jarring in contrast to what came before and after - A few wisecracks one moment and a visceral gunshot immediately after - While both of these scenes could have stood out positively and led to satisfying conclusions, they ultimately felt bizarly rushed.

In summery, “The Lost City” mostly achieves what it sets out to accomplish. It’s a lighthearted adventure that stumbles at times, but holds its viewer’s focus through clever plot, fun characters, and a heartwarming through-line of timeless love. While not the shiniest of cinematic gems, it remains a solid experience for anyone looking for a new adventure.
