The undeniable chemistry between leads Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum is quite delightful, backed up by the fine supporting performance by Brad Pitt in yet another superbly daffy comedic role, a palette of gorgeous exotic locations and a nicely assembled soundtrack. The pacing admittedly sags somewhat in the middle, becoming a little too talky with conversations that don't exactly add a lot, but the film's strong suits contribute much to Adam and Aaron Nee's third feature outing, a terrific date night movie or a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon at the show. And Radcliff has a villain is fun to watch. The action is surprisingly, realistic in many ways. The jokes are a mix bag at times but many of them lands. The dramatic elements aren't always setup in a good manner. The music was conventional. I give the movie 72%. I was entertained and it passed the time in a funny way. Go see it for the actors. Until this weekend, that is. The Lost CityWhat's up, Streamers? It feels like there have been more streaming options this month than theater options. Once The Batman came out, I guess no studios wanted to put any competition out there. Until this weekend, that is. The Lost City opened in theaters bringing comedy, romance, action, adventure and the return of Sandra Bullock. Here's how it went.

The Lost City is exactly what you might assume it is from the trailers. Sandra Bullock stars as Loretta Sage, a widowed, best-selling romance novelist who is releasing what may be her final novel. Channing Tatum stars as Alan, the cover model for Loretta's romance novels, who is riding high on the fame and worried about it coming to an end. When a mysterious billionaire kidnaps Loretta to assist him in locating a treasure, Alan goes to great lengths to rescue her. Hijinks and a little romance might ensue.

It's a romantic comedy. It's an action and adventure story. The story itself is in no way innovative and you know exactly where it is going the entire time. Therefore, it all succeeds or fails on the strength of the cast, particularly the chemistry between Bullock and Tatum. For the most part, The Lost City succeeds. The leads do have chemistry. It's not necessarily romantic chemistry, but you believe that Loretta and Alan would grow to enjoy each other. There is some good banter back and forth, but not all of the jokes land. Some of that chatter gets a little tiresome. There's really good physical comedy from all of the actors and that keeps the movie chugging along. Plus, there are standouts throughout the cast as Daniel Radcliffe, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Brad Pitt all have their moments. It seems like everyone got the memo to just have fun in this movie. Brad Pitt definitely understood the assignment. He steals every scene that he's in. He's very funny and weird and charming. The producers definitely got their money's worth by cast Mr. Pitt.

Ultimately, The Lost City is a fun movie that's not trying too hard to reinvent the wheel. You already know where you're going, so you might as well have fun with it. Is this a rush out and see it movie? Probably not, but it's good enough for a matinee viewing. Get your bowl of popcorn and have some laughs.

Watch the movie like this, Sit Bored 625 times (calculated number according to the main time of this movie). Yeah ,See this masterpiece 625 times and do not be proud. The writing and the performances were really sharp from the entire cast and I laughed far more through the entire movie, than I have at anything that has come out of Hollywood for several years. Whilst most of the notes are quite close to a number of similar movies, not least Romancing the Stone (which is acknowledged in a couple of background nods) the movie holds the attention throughout and allows the stars and dialogue to hold the focus with charm and wit in abundance. The Lost City might not be award-worthy but it's certainly far more worthy of your time for a date night than plenty of higher scoring movies, if you just want to smile and laugh for two hours. Didn’t expect if we need it?

It’s really great movie if still not sure what to watch in the cinemas. Just strolling around and giving this movie a shot. Action-adventure comedy movie like this is really great to lit our weekend consumption needs – laughter from comedy. Some huge casts are shown up like Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, and Brad Pitt. The movie plot is simple to find the lost city through an unexpected adventurous journey.

The pros are this movie felt entertaining enough through jokes, clear external and internal Hollywood references – citing the movie and using OST music – and actor performances. Practical jokes and rom-com movies typically seem great. Movie narration and jokes seem at a suitable pace. Hollywood references make this movie relatable to the audience. Sorry, I’m not trying to spoil the reference because please just see it lol. Lastly, actor performances are absolutely no doubt caused they are great casts. Visual quality? Just good or Hollywood standards. The cons are the movie plot is too simple and the char's background is too shallow. But actually, these two cons are typical of comedy movies.

This movie has an interesting theme where a reclusive author, Loretta hides her ideas of a fantasy novel from society as a surprise. While promoting her new novel, she is faced with exaggeration when a lunatic kidnaps her and Loretta faces visualized aspects from her novel on an island. The contemplations this film had me wondering if an imagination of an author had a perfect scenario for Loretta to reflect vividly on characters that she created and what she would be able to do with the materiality of them.
It feels like this film wanted to have a little simultaneous competition with "Uncharted" and as I see it, the visuals here required less effort than in "Uncharted", while that movie had a plot that was more befogging and this film followed through better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yet another woke cinematic masterpiece from Hollywood. Replete with funny hapless males and overly aggressive females. Oh, and let's not forget the new Hollywood recurring theme -- Only men can be sexualized in movies. So in order to counter the fact that woman have been sexualized in the past, they now only sexualize men, the vast majority of the time. The part where they showed Channing Tatum's ass for about a half an hour was repulsive. Then there was the feminazi moment when Sandra Bullock told Tatum that she cannot "mansplain" to him. Then he replied that he was a "feminist". It would be funny if it wasn't such a nauseating social engineering moment. People are sick and tired of woke movies! Expand

I must admit that The Lost City may be many things, but one of them is not being fake. What it offers is what it is: simple, straightforward and uncomplicated.
Fast food movie with no nutritional benefit, but will give you enough calories to pass the time. Not the best of analogies, but it's basically the crudest and simplest way to explain it.

Neither Sandra Bullock, nor Channing Tatum work with anything that really gets them to do something genuinely funny, so they resort to the best they can to move the thing along, while Daniel Radcliffe is basically a 2.0 version of what he did in Now You See Me 2.
The funniest character was Brad Pitt and he's only there for a little while, so there's not much to say about that.

It won't revive the genre it's trying to emulate, but as I said, its ambitions are so basic that what it delivers is enough to satisfy anyone looking for quick, uncomplicated entertainment.

When she's kidnapped by a billionaire searching for a lost treasure (Daniel Radcliffe), he sets out to rescue her. Naturally, it's up to their chemistry to make this movie appeal. Bullock is trying hard for laffs, while Tatum's bumbling character works, thanks' to his amusing charm. Da'Vine Joy Randolph, as the manager, adds a few moments of humor, while Brad Pitt enjoys his swashbuckling cameo. The entire plot is obvious and their situations often ridiculous, so it's up to the script to add a fresh take. Sadly, it depends more on the actors' abilities than on witty writing. While the pacing never lags, there's not much clever or original to help this Lost City find its comic footing. NOTE: Stay thru the early credits for one final Brad Pitt moment Expand

It tries to be a little Lara Croft, a little Indiana Jones, and a little bit of your favorite romance movie (whatever that may be). Unfortunately, it fails pretty bad at all of them, and really lacks its own identity. It had a few funny parts. The action was drab and boring, and the main villain is hardly believable as a threat. There is also a LOT of identity politics strewn throughout the film. If this is something which bothers you in a film, be prepared. It's everywhere in this one. Otherwise, it would have been a rental. Nothing here warrants paying the price of admission to see. No good special effects or action, no good humor, no chemistry really between the characters, and a boring story. All the movies this one tries to be, are far better. Save your money. Expand

In adventure cinema, perhaps this current trend began with the movies with "The Rock", and "The Lost City" does not deviate from such approach by adding to it a metareferential element: the love story between the couple of protagonists has the upper hand over the adventure just like in the novels written by the character of the 57-year-old Bullock. So in in essence it's a normal romcom but disguised as who knows what (a suggestion: Zemeckis).

It had it's comical moments however much of the humor felt overly "modern" and a bit cringe. Also, being a modern Hollywood movie, you'll never believe it, but there's a bunch of woke dialogue slipped into it throughout it's run-time. Lines about being a "feminist" or western colonization, yada yada. Some of these lines are delivered comedically so could be excused while others really felt unnecessarily forced into the movie to subliminally push "the message" (as Critical Drinker calls it). If The Lost City had embraced the screwball part for the entire running time it would have been saved from the fate of being yet another predictable, if serviceable rom-com adventure movie.

The Lost City is nothing all too special. Has some funny scenes but that's about it.

Good cast, pretty funny with some crazy moments and also some lighthearted moments. Not bad. Worth a watch.

The Lost City is safe, fun, reliable entertainment that even delivers some unexpected moments. The story can best be compared to Romancing The Stone, where a shut-in writer is suddenly thrust into an Indiana Jones style adventure. The story can best be compared to Romancing The Stone, where a shut-in writer is suddenly thrust into an Indiana Jones style adventure. The ending came as a surprise with a rather moving and un-cynical take on love. The acting is well done from a cast of veterans who know what they are doing and have legitimate chemistry together. Special effects blend in well, never being hyper obvious. Soundtrack is reliable, if forgettable. Overall, I recommend it as a safe bet to watch. Expand

“The Lost City” is an interesting take on the classic treasure hunting story, as it presents itself as more of a freewheeling jaunt than a suspense-driven tomb crawler. While some moments of expected peril still persist, the film as a whole“The Lost City” is an interesting take on the classic treasure hunting story, as it presents itself as more of a freewheeling jaunt than a suspense-driven tomb crawler. While some moments of expected peril still persist, the film as a whole goes out of its way to assume a more subdued approach that fits with the characters and narrative.

The plot overall is concise and imaginative, though the climactic moments could have been stronger had a more serious outlook been utilized: an example of this would be the direction that was taken for the main antagonist. While their repercussions are negligible and vague, a more fitting demise that could have stemmed from their blind arrogance and drive for notoriety would have been more memorable.

The humor throughout the film acts as a good counterweight for the somber tones introduced off and on in the main character’s arch, and it lands decently overall. Minus a few gratuitous moments that could have been cut, most of the comedic output meshes well with the action and storyline.

One point of dissonance that unfortunately cropped up several times involved the poor build up and execution of moments dealing with the fate of a reoccurring side character. Twice, when two different supporting characters seemingly met their end, the story presented the scenes so abruptly that they felt jarring in contrast to what came before and after - A few wisecracks one moment and a visceral gunshot immediately after - While both of these scenes could have stood out positively and led to satisfying conclusions, they ultimately felt bizarly rushed.

In summery, “The Lost City” mostly achieves what it sets out to accomplish. It’s a lighthearted adventure that stumbles at times, but holds its viewer’s focus through clever plot, fun characters, and a heartwarming through-line of timeless love. While not the shiniest of cinematic gems, it remains a solid experience for anyone looking for a new adventure.
