Probably my personal favorite of Nolan Batman movies, and I also really like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. This is a brilliant film, one of the highlights of superhero movies. What is expected of Christopher Nolan is a visually daring film, with beautiful cinematography, beautifully realized Gotham City and great special effects.

Hans Zimmer's shot is not one of his best for me, but there is still an epic and captivating quality that is simply perfect for this film. Dialogue provokes thinking and creates emotional impact, and the vast majority of the time The Dark Knight Rises is ambitious and captivating. There are so many great things that it’s easy to get lost in a movie and get caught up in the various situations that happen in a movie.

I consider Christopher Nolan to be one of my favorites, it speaks to an extremely impressive director who shows great ambition and a willingness to make his themes interesting. He’s doing a really wonderful job here, as the set / action, including the hijacking and Bane’s attack on Gotham, is enough to delight you. The way Nolan builds this dark atmosphere and the city is just something that many other directors should study in the future.

The performances are simply great of all involved, Matthew Modine is the weakest, but he is far from bad. Christian Bale is still a charismatic presence. Another great advantage is that Bale can bring that dark and mysterious nature into the character of Wayne, while at the same time being very convincing in the role of Batman. I think it's fair to say that he put his stamp on the character and if this is his last attempt, then he has done more than any previous actor. Matthew Caine appropriately loyal, and Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman subtly underestimated. Joseph Gordon Levitt beautifully captures the idealism of his character. Tom Hardy is in heightened intimidating fashion as Bane, a worthy successor to the legendary Joker Heath Ledger. Anne Hathaway was a curious choice, but as Catwoman she is in place, here is Catwoman who actually does a lot more than acting the sexy way (which she still is), here she is very ruthless and no nonsense.

The great virtue of Christopher Nolan remains to suggest the only realistic version of Batman. The only difference is because it is authentic. This film is precise in its story, because it is not just about a hero or a city, but about the past, the power of memory, the subtle cruelty of revenge, the right ending for a magnificent series and the right gestures to build a new beginning. A meeting of a great cast and the best screenplay. There is also an argument for defining “The Dark Knight Rises” as a masterpiece for many reasons, not just artistic, but, first, because you feel the story within you. Many scenes are known from books or other movies, from stories or paintings, from nightmares or everyday reality. And Nolan's genius is not in discovering them, but in using them in the best way. Impeccable film, this is the word that most easily defines this masterpiece. Truly a magnificent ending to one of the best trilogies in film history!… Expand

Actually like this one better than Dark Knight. I don't have any criticism of this film at all, it's such a carefully crafted film that if I had to list something negative, I would have to nitpick, and in this 2 hour and 40 minute classic, that simply would be an exercise in futility. By which standard are you assuming it is "widely seen" as the weakest? Financially, it's made the most out of the entire trilogy. the final 40 minutes of Dark Knight Rises is perfect. From the moment the Gotham Police Officers unify to confront Bane and his army of mercenaries and the Batman arrives in ‘The Bat’ firing the first shots; all the threads begin to tiethe final 40 minutes of Dark Knight Rises is perfect. From the moment the Gotham Police Officers unify to confront Bane and his army of mercenaries and the Batman arrives in ‘The Bat’ firing the first shots; all the threads begin to tie together. The perfect blend of story, character, music, and visuals. The score kicks into gear as the battle begins. Catwoman blows open the entrance so people can start to evacuate. John Blake gets the word out to load up on the buses. “Is he back?” asks one of the kids as the score swells. A massive ground battle ensues and finally Batman and Bane see one another across the battlefield. All of it is so perfectly staged.

The sequence just continues to build with so many great moments. The Talia Al Ghul reveal. Catwoman and Batman chasing down the bomb. Batman’s sacrifice to save the city. Alfred’s emotional breakdown at Bruce’s grave. And those final moments… when Gordon sees the Bat signal. Alfred sees that Bruce is still alive. John ‘Robin’ Blake finds the bat cave, and in the final shot walks onto the ascending platform as we see the final title credit:

Pure perfection. Goosebumps every time. It’s the work of a master filmmaker. Christopher Nolan is a director capable of composing symphonic cinema, blending all the elements together into something amazing. This is undoubtably my favorite film in the trilogy. It had a little bit of everything. The return, loss of hope, relief and sorrow, and the perfect ending scene. Everything about this movie was so perfect to me and it is probably one of the best endings to a flick that I have ever seen. Whenever Alfred and Bruce smile at each other you can’t help but smile yourself. Everything about this movie was beautiful.
I do find it a little bit hard to believe that Bruce forgave catwoman pretty much instantly. But I love the chemistry the two characters had together, the constant back-and-forth and then finally being together really made me happy. I love the reveal that Talia is actually Ra’s daughter, and Bane was her protector. I was so confused whenever I saw Joey King playing a young Bane and then whenever the reveal happened I was mind blown. I am honestly a little fuzzy on why Bane was so persistent in carrying out the purpose of the league of shadows after he was castaway by Ra’s.
Bane is definitely the most intimidating villain in this trilogy. His raw strength and intimidation is unmatched by anybody else in the trilogy. He is smart, and he is scary. What more could you ask for.
Anne Hathaway gave a great performance as cat woman and I honestly have a newfound respect for her as an actress. She played the role perfectly and I loved every minute of her screen time.
I genuinely cannot get over the ending scenes of the movie. The statue dedicated to Batman, Gordon on the roof, Fox learning about the auto pilot, and Alfred crying for forgiveness to Bruce’s parents grave stones is honestly such a tearjerking moment but it was so beautiful to watch. I can’t get over it. Joseph Gordon Levitt was unbelievable in this movie. I loved how his character was persistent regardless of the task he was performing, and he was truly passionate for Gotham and the people of Gotham. His final scene in the Batcave was amazing, and the reveal that he is Robin is so perfect given the history of the character he played and his loyalty to Batman no matter what. I feel like Talia al Ghul was casted perfectly, I never had trust for her throughout the entire film and the twist was a surprise to me but I knew there was something up with the character. The role was played perfectly though.
Christian Bale‘s performance was very intriguing to me. I loved to see how Bruce Wayne was able to conquer the not only the physical pain but the mental block that was holding him back. I loved him as Batman once again, I feel like throughout the trilogy I was able to respect Christian Bales performance as Batman more and more. It definitely grew on me. I still think that Bruce Wayne could not have been more perfectly portrayed. I loved how it was done.
I’m going to be thinking about this for a very long time and that final scene is going to stick with me. I want to rewatch this trilogy someday, and I know that it will hold up. I thought a very nice touch to the final scene was whenever Alfred was getting his wallet to pay for the drink and then sees Bruce across the restaurant, he then put his credit card back in his wallet because he knows his Bill was already paid for. Bruce Wayne. Perfection.… Expand

One thing I love about this trilogy is that every film is its own thing. Batman Begins is a great origin story that best depicts Gotham, DK features the best villain, & DKR is a solid final entry to this superhero trilogy.

Following The Dark Knight is like playing after the Beatles. Any attempt to outshine that masterpiece is just as useless as trying to ice skate uphill. Most of the criticism from fans and critics is either unwarranted or should be classified as misplaced aggression, as it’s a stunning achievement for several reasons. It almost feels like they were just bitter that it had to come to a close. The satisfying end to the gritty Bruce Wayne saga helped re-shape the landscape of the genre and will always be regarded as the thrilling conclusion to one of the best trilogies ever made.

Bale caps off a career-defining run as the caped crusader and offers up the most compelling and consistently good three-picture arc of any superhero adaptation ever attempted. The real standouts though, are the tragically underrated take on Bane from Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway, who crushes every second she is on screen as the seductive cat burglar Selina Kyle. The beautifully crafted story of the hero fallen from grace rising one more time to sacrifice everything for the people of Gotham is absolutely fantastic. It’s the kind of film where every time the brilliant score plays and Alfred gives that final nod to master Wayne. True fans will stand and applaud the unbelievably extraordinary cinematic accomplishment that is Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy. Good luck to anyone trying to surpass it.… Expand

Talia al Ghul is an underrated character in this trilogy. Though many critics and fans praised her performance, She serves as another counter-image to Bruce Wayne; a billionaire philanthropist who (apparently) wanted to help Gotham out through funding the fusion reactor, was a billionaire, orphan and ninja. She served as an ally and a false hope to Bruce as he was trying to escape his demons and rebuild his life. She played an important role in manipulating Bruce Wayne and Wayne Enterprises for the takeover of Gotham to happen (the former knew her as Tate before the start of the film, and had no reason to distrust her). One way of which involved even being in resistance movements to allow for them to be caught by Bane's men, the special forces agents being killed, and capture of Gordon and his allies.
Her backstory with Bane and her father leaves an emotional impact, adding to the former’s humanity; also drawing influence from Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities- Bane is Monsieur Defarge to Talia's Madame Defarge (the antagonists of that novel). She doesn't take away from Bane's character but adds to him, and they're equals contrary to disgruntled fans who claimed that it "demoted" him. She has some terrific moments like her “The slow knife that cuts deepest” speech to Batman, and her cold look that she gives as she tells her henchman to “Shoot them all” as they kill Deputy Foely… Expand

Agreed. Rises is fantastic and a vast majority agree. You’ll just find minority of vocal and entitled fanboys online bashing it. Even ign of all places scored it a 9/10. I remember they even did this “battle” between Dark Knight Rises and Avengers where they pitted cast, villains, plot, action etc against each other. Rises won every category except I believe 1.
It’s a fantastic film and not to mention it is also the “first of its kind.” The first to conclude a superhero film franchise on its own terms and go in with the notion of it being the end. Also the first time we see Batman get the happy ending he deserves (it won’t happen in comics, why? Because comics never end, he stays 35-42 forever or they’ll always present hypothetical alternate futures).
It is also the first medium to present a definitive ending for Batman.
Not to mention globally it outgrossed The Dark Knight. Why? The movie had legs…people flocked to see it and many more went back for multiple viewings…indicators that they enjoyed it… Expand

At the end of the preceding chapter, we saw how the peace that was established in Gotham was based on a lie, the lie of Harvey Dent. In the introduction of the film, after an enthralling plane heist scene, it shows in great depth that the actions of the Joker have had a deep and lasting impact on the people of Gotham as the people are still dealing with the aftermath of the destruction that was unleashed on the people of Gotham. While they are still on the recovery path, the fearless Bane, played by Tom Hardy, arrives in the city to carry out what the Joker did not, destroy Gotham. One of the main people that the Joker really left his mark on is Batman himself as we see how much he has just completely withdrawn into his shell in the years since. He lost a lot of physical strength in the eight years in between the two films and it sets the scene perfectly for the arrival of Bane as he is in his prime physical condition.

As with previous two chapters of this trilogy, the story of this film is really engrossing. Initially the citizens of Gotham are living on this false sense that peace had been achieved and that all the crime and corruption in Gotham had been eradicated with the Joker’s capture. Yet, Bane takes his chance with both hands to blow this façade apart and he does this ruthlessly and takes out anyone who dares to stand in his way. Hardy is magnificent in this role and in my opinion is the best villain of the trilogy. He has the intellect of the Joker, but a considerable physical advantage that made him a formidable opponent to Batman. His voice, although hard to understand at times, is another factor that makes him a frightening force to be reckoned with. As the majority of his face is covered by his mask, he has to use his eyes to convey his emotion and he does this brilliantly. The film’s action goes up another gear from the previous film as Bane threatens to torture the citizens of Gotham and completely tear the city apart, and it is up to a weakened Batman to come to Gotham’s rescue once more. This film boasts the best action scenes of the entire trilogy.

All of the returning cast again shine in their roles. Special mention must go to Michael Caine who arguably delivers his best performance of the trilogy. The new members of the cast also deliver great performances. Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard both deliver wonderful female performances as Selina Kyle (AKA Catwoman) and Miranda Tate respectively. Hathaway was seductive and brilliantly cunning at the same time, and she excelled as Catwoman. Similarly, Cotillard was equally strong in her leading role as the very intelligent businesswoman Miranda Tate. Joseph Gordon-Levitt also gives a strong performance as the smart and determined policeman John Blake.

The Dark Knight Rises was the film we deserved and the one that we needed to wrap up this magnificent trilogy. Every member of the cast, as with the first two films, played their roles out to absolute perfection. The action scenes are again pulsating to watch and with superb acting by everyone involved, along with the perfect villain, The Dark Knight Rises was one of the best films of 2012 and is the best film of Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy in my opinion. In a year that produced some extraordinary films and performances, The Dark Knight Rises was a little unlucky not to pick up at least one Oscar nomination. However it remains one of 2012’s best films. I take my hat off to Christopher Nolan for giving us three individual masterpieces that combine to form one of the best film trilogies of the 21st century… Expand

All of these inspirations were done tastefully, but when compared to the first, Rises blends two arcs to create an incredibly daunting premise.

Bane's inclusion and initial destruction of Batman were expertly re-imagined through Knightfall, but adding to it the cutting off of Gotham from the world like in No Man's Land but leaving it run by terrorists led by Bane is a strong twist to that story… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Plot twists are always tough to handle. The great ones ("I am your father") add substance to the film, give the characters more depth and force the audience to reevaluate what they have just seen. If your film employs one of these twists, it's vital to keep it a secret because the shock enhances the experience of watching the movie for the first time. One trick Nolan used when writing The Dark Knight Rises was to give two characters, Robin and Talia al Ghul, aliases so fans didn't know their true intentions. It's a clever way to misdirect the people who follow the production of these movies very closely. The twists may seem obvious now, but I'm sure there were more than a few moviegoers who fell for the "John Blake" and "Miranda Tate" identities before they saw the film. I know I was caught off guard (if only a little bit) when the big reveals came. The way the team handled it was smart. When you think about it, there was absolutely no reason for anyone to mention Talia al Ghul during the pre-release phase of The Dark Knight Rises. The marketing materials highlighted Bane as the ultimate adversary and Selina Kyle's alliances were never made 100% clear. In some trailers, she was helping Batman. In others, she was threatening Bruce Wayne. The villain department was covered for trailers and TV spots. The decision to push "Miranda Tate" in the background proved to be extremely beneficial. People knew Marion Cotillard was in the film, but she was an afterthought by the time July 20 rolled around. Nolan had positioned her character as a potential love interest for Bruce as he looked to get his personal life back on track. Nobody thought much of her, but the twist changed everything. talia This is an instance where a secret definitely helped the film. Prior to the revelation, Miranda Tate was nothing more than a throwaway character who seemed superfluous to the plot. The twist elevated her character by giving her depth and purpose. It was a nice way to bring the trilogy full circle, up the emotional stakes (Talia is the daughter of Batman Begins villain Ra's al Ghul for those who don't know), and call back one of the many iconic lines of dialogue, "theatricality and deception are powerful agents." Bane - with his plane heists and football field demolitions - represented theatrics. Talia was deception. It's a great touch. In my opinion, the best way to handle the Talia situation was the way Nolan did in his film. Until that moment in the third act, there was never really a suitable time for Miranda to say, "I'm Talia." If it had happened at an earlier part in the film, it would have felt out of place. Nolan really had no choice but to keep the character a secret, and that move paid off. Also, it's not as if Talia al Ghul was expected to be a major part of The Dark Knight Rises in the first place. People were excited to see if Bane would break Batman's back or if Bruce would die at the end, not watch a showdown between the Dark Knight and Talia al Ghul. By underplaying this element of the movie, Nolan not only blindsided some audience members, but gave his trilogy another layer that ultimately made it better. If the director had told us Miranda was Talia before anyone saw the film, that moment wouldn't have been so impactful and the character probably wouldn't have been as interesting as she became after the reveal. We would have just been sitting there waiting for Bruce to find out instead of learning with him. It was smart.… Expand

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN, YOU MAD GENIUS!!

THIS WAS AMAZING OMFG!! As I was watching the movie, my mind always steered to the thought of how my review was going to turn out, considering the number of plot twists. Miranda being the child was one ofCHRISTOPHER NOLAN, YOU MAD GENIUS!!

THIS WAS AMAZING OMFG!! As I was watching the movie, my mind always steered to the thought of how my review was going to turn out, considering the number of plot twists. Miranda being the child was one of the biggest plot twists in cinema; prove me wrong!

The character development and the story pacing were very unique, and it was terrific. The cast was so talented and so fine omfg. Christopher Nolan is the best director ever ugh.

. It's a amazing conclusion to The Dark Knight Trilogy of the Batman franchise. Christian Bale still did an amazing job portraying as Batman. Tom Hardy's portrayal as Bane is one of the best villain characters to date, despite looking nothing like the character in the comics. Hardy did make an amazing job portraying Bane, who is arguably the best villain in all of the DC films. Also, he is a friend and protector of Talia al Ghul and the field commander of the League of Shadows. He was potent in both strategy and physical combat. The scenery is still amazing. Ra's Al Ghul returns as a cameo in the movie. The soundtrack that was performed by Hans Zimmer is so epic and exciting as well. It still has a bunch of awesome fight scenes. The scene near the end of the movie where Batman uses his aerial craft, the Bat, to carry the bomb far over the bay and explodes is well handled. Well done acting from the actors, including Tom Hardy as the memorable incarnation of Bane and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. Superb cinematography that was well shot, even the plane crash scene is a highlight. "Tell me where the trigger is! Then, you have my permission to die." Awesome pacing, despite the overlong.… Expand

The Dark Knight Rises offers the best of Batman and gets you into its conclusion about the notion of heroism and devotion from a single man. Christopher Nolan delivers a most satisfying conclusion to his critically acclaimed superhero saga, with this highly anticipated blockbuster. It's usually hard for the third film to live up to the original, but this does and nails it. Everything is top-notch in the film: the acting: Bruce Wayne/Batman (Christian Bale), Bane (Tom Hardy), Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Caine), James Gordon (Gary Oldman), Miranda Tate/Talia al Ghul (Marion Cotillard), John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman), the writing, the cinematography, the storyline, the soundtrack that is performed by Hans Zimmer is so epic and exciting as well, the visual effects are all perfect in the film. Tom hardy is fantastic as Bane and his mask is really intimidating. I like how they didn't cover up his whole face because if they did cover his face up, he wouldn't look as threatening as he actually is. The action is incredible, the performances are great, the scene with Bruce climbing out of Banes prison is one of my favorite scenes of the trilogy, the story, everything works in the movie and while it might not be better than the previous films I still am pleased with this movie and never have I been more stasfied with a comic book series conclusion than this one. Christopher Nolan has de-constructed Batman not a as comic book fanboy, but as a professor looking at the mythos we create and use in story telling. Overall, The Dark Knight Rises is a fitting, full-arc conclusion to a great epic trilogy, Christopher Nolan made it with care and love for the franchise.… Expand

This is a great conclusion to this trilogy. The first half of this movie is a little boring but the second half of this movie definitely carry’s the first half on it’s back. The fight between Batman and Bane was also very well done. I loved this ending when Bruce made everyone think he was dead. It was a perfect send off to Christian Bale as Batman. This movie gets a 4.5 of 5 from me. It’s not a 5 only because the first half was kinda boring but this is a great movie and a great ending to the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy.… Expand

Incredible cinematography, likeable characters, great acting, amazing plot, overall a very very good film with lessons and meaning in it, like it's predecessors. It's amazing how Bruce Wayne decides to return in order to find Bane, which he knows is a serious threat, just to get beat down (something you don't really witness in superhero movies), learn from it and finally find himself, defeat his fears through escaping a pit turned to a prison and save finally an entire city. It's heroic and adds a near perfect conclusion to my favourite trilogy of all time. There were quite a few memorable moments from this movie, like, obviously Batman's first appearance and Bane's first appearance, Stock market hit, Batman vs Bane in the sewers, and everything after and including the pit escape is just pure top tier cinema material.… Expand

The Dark Knight Rises is not a disappointment as some may have you believe. It is an entirely different beast from The Dark Knight and the two are generally incomparable despite belonging to the same series of films. Whilst I do think that The Dark Knight is the better film on the whole, Rises manages to combine the best elements of Dark Knight and Batman Begins into something grander in scale than either of them ever were and stick the landing to give fans that happy feeling when the credits start to roll.
Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy is a true anomaly, and I don’t feel we will see anything akin to it in a very long time. It came at a time of incredible change within the superhero genre (in large part something it contributed to) and it is an almost unheard of practice to see a major studio like Warner Bros. give a property as big as Batman to an auteur director with almost no restrictions. It had never really happened before, and it hasn’t happened since either. The Dark Knight Trilogy stands tall in the action genre of what can be possible when you allow such a beloved property to be handled by someone who wants to do something different with it, whilst also understanding why the source material is so beloved. This is why the series is often considered one of the greatest film trilogies of all time, and I wholeheartedly agree with it… Expand

There’s an old myth. It’s a common myth, one that recurs throughout time and cultures. It has a Hero, a chosen one — one who transcends above the life of an ordinary soul to become a beacon of hope in the grim realities of life.

And then the Hero fails. They lie broken, beaten, scarred, and in pain. They struggle. They suffer.

But the light keeps burning. It burns not for the Hero, but for the community. For a hero without a community is no hero at all.

They have strength and power. They could hold dominion over that community if they wanted, but they refuse. This is the difference between the Hero and those that stand in their way — they are selfless souls who reject power. They believe in their community, believe in them enough to not rule by fear but instead give them all their life, all their love.

This is the myth of “The Dark Knight Rises”, one of the most masterful pieces of big-blockbuster filmmaking I have seen. A film that respects its characters, its audience, and the shared mythology of humanity. A film that commits to its central thesis — we, the humble human being, are Batman.

No moment from the film better signifies its mythology than Bruce Wayne crawling out of the pit. The pit is Hell — not an ideal place to live in. He struggles and fails to crawl out of Hell, not for lack of physical strength but because he is mentally dead. He lacks a will to live. He lacks something to pull him out of death. Simple revenge isn’t enough to motivate the Hero, for revenge comes from anger and fear and the Hero learns to transcend and work through these primal emotions. What gets Wayne out of Hell is love — the love he has for his community. Because he is the Hero. The Hero loves. Always.

Despite all the bluster of Nolan’s three Batman films as these “gritty and dark” pieces, they are incredibly hopeful and optimistic. Wayne has every reason to turn his back on his community and live as a recluse (which he does in the beginning), but he is pulled back every time because of the hope he feels. He, who has suffered his whole life from loss and pain and fear, refuses to succumb to these emotions. He straddles the line and may fall down, but he always climbs back up out of darkness and into the light.

The true staying power of these characters is that they are all ordinary people making extraordinary decisions to help their community. Beyond his wealth, Bruce Wayne is just a man. Selina Kyle is just a woman. John Blake is just a normal cop. They are all average. They have no supernatural abilities that inherently let them transcend beyond. All they have is their lives, lives that they put on the line for others.

Sacrifice of one’s life is not for the sake of death; it is for the guarantee of rebirth. This is the metaphor of the Crucifixion. This is the point of every time we see a hero die in our modern mythology: Joe in “Looper”, Spike Spiegel in “Cowboy Bebop”, Karras in “The Exorcist”. They all die so that rebirth can occur — rebirth for themselves, rebirth for their community. This is the mark of the Hero.

And the Hero cannot escape this truth. Consider Luke Skywalker in “The Last Jedi”. He failed, became broken, and ran from his heroism. He went into the depths of his soul, the depths of the inner world. But he returned and bore the pain of his sins and the sins of his community so that the community could find renewed life. No matter how much the Hero is broken, they are always repaired.

Constantly through “The Dark Knight Rises”, Bruce Wayne dies. When the film begins, he is dead. When he first faces Bane, he dies. Every time he tries to crawl out of hell, he dies another time. In the end of the film, he dies a final time. And in every case, he is reborn.

Rebirth is hope. From when humanity first developed consciousness and free thought, they contemplated their existence. The sun rises and sets, everything dies in the winter and grows in the spring, herds of animals depart and come back. But what of us? What happens when we die? The origin of mythology/religion comes from answering these existential, cosmic questions about death. It is the oldest story. It is the only story.

The ending sequence of "The Dark Knight Rises" is the guarantee rebirth and renewed life that comes from death. The estate of the dead Wayne family gives life to children. The death of Batman gives life to John “Robin” Blake. The death of Bruce Wayne gives new life to Alfred, who gets the one thing he always needed in life — the Hero becoming reborn as a normal man.

Because this is the myth. The Hero emerges, adventures, struggles, fails, dies, finds new life, triumphs, and disappears. For once their community has the boon of the new life the Hero gave them, the Hero’s job is done. The myth ends, but it lives forever.… Expand

This movie is easily not only one of the best superhero movies I’ve seen, but maybe on the best movies. First of all, the plot twists are insane. And there are a lot of them. The soundtrack is great as usual although maybe not as prominent.This movie is easily not only one of the best superhero movies I’ve seen, but maybe on the best movies. First of all, the plot twists are insane. And there are a lot of them. The soundtrack is great as usual although maybe not as prominent. The suspense this movie made me feel is absolutely unreal. And don’t even get my started on the villains, they gave Bane a legitimate backstory in this movie!!!! The inclusion of old villain characters too were also just mind blowing and insane. The guy that played Robin did great, Alfred was great as always, Bane is awesome, Cat woman is awesome, and of course, Batman is spectacular. The ending to this movie, is absolutely mind boggling and is a great ending to a solid trilogy. Absolutely beautiful. 5/5.… Expand

Another incredible Batman film from Nolan, this film much like the other two are across the board technically flawless but sense I've mentioned that in both of my reviews for Batman Begins and TDK I will focus on the differences that I loved.

First and foremost this is Christian Bales best performance as Batman. We see a very beaten and broken version of Bruce which leads to some great character moments which allow Bale to give an incredible performance.

Anne Hathaway was a very nice addition as Catwoman, this version of Selina Kyle was much more comic book accurate in terms of her humour, stealth, fighting, and sexiness. Also her back story added a sympathetic emotional side.

Bane is a menace and Tom Hardy is great as this character. Bane is a get to the point guy, he doesn't mess around he gets things done. I also liked their more realistic take on the character in terms of the use of his mask.

The stakes were much higher in this then they were in the previous films, which made for a very edge of your seat type of watch.

The ending is very satisfying and leaves on a great note, not much more to say about that.… Expand

Hadn't seen this since the theater. My original opinion was "good, not great". Well now I take that back. The Dark Knight Rises is a great movie. In terms of story and theme, it's better than The Dark Knight. The Nolans demonstrate a deep understand of the characters, and the handling of Wayne's character is simply flawless. The plot is insane and exciting, with Bane being one of the scariest villains ever. The movie also has a strong anti-socialist message which is always a nice bonus.

The Dark Knight is, of course, elevated to greatness by Heath Ledger's Joker, but Rises is just as good of a film, just for different reasons.… Expand

I absolutly loved him in it. He was a complete bad***. I loved his look. The mask looked great on him, and I thought his voice was fantastic. The way he fought was great, and all of his fight scenes were very well done. He was very powerful and in charge. I also liked his motivations. But my favorite thing about him was how great of a villian and how mighty a foe he was. His strength was fighting were great, and I loved the way he fought. He also made brilliant plans and was a master strategist. His brilliant plans and the way he executed them never ceased to amaze me from the very beginning of the movie where he took down that plane. He seemed like Batman's ultimate foe, and pushed him to the brink of death. All in all, I thought he was excellent villian.… Expand

This takes everything great about the Dark Knight trilogy and takes it to a whole other level! Batman reemerges from a mini retirement as he must take down the league of shadows, headed by an immense force by the name of Bane (Tom Hardy in an incredibly nuanced villain role). Getting double crossed by a fellow fighter of the night, Catwoman (Anne Hathaway in a surprisingly good performance in the iconic role), Bruce Wayne must regain his physical and mental strength in order to help save Gotham from becoming destroyed by Bane and his legions of army personnel. A militaristic war like film, Rises is an interesting different approach to ending a super hero franchise. It stays grounded to a certain extent, and though there are some hiccups here and there, its a solid and satisfying ending to his legendary trilogy. I think a lot of people were being too hard on this movie when it first came out, as it was coming off the heals of Nolans previous two movies (The Dark Knight and Inception). Its already hard enough to follow up one great movie, but following up two of them is a tall task, which Nolan clears in aces. Its a movie that is bold and dark, while also finishing the story that started with Begins. Its a satisfying movie with great overall production. Set in Gotham eight years after the events of “Dark Knight” in a city that seems to have eradicated most crime, Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne, Batman) is in retirement and is no longer running around the streets at night wearing a mask.

Just as things appear to have cooled down, we are introduced to a new villain known as Bane (Tom Hardy) who has many connections and plans on bringing down Gotham by any means possible.

The film continues on with an amazing Climax that will make you feel like all hope truly is lost. Stunning action sequences and scattered connections to the prior two films (“Dark Knight” and “Batman Begins”) make it a fantastic conclusion to the three-part series.

New characters such as Officer Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and Selina aka Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) fit in well with the all-star cast and present characters that the viewer is rooting for no matter what happens.

Bane (Tom Hardy) does a great job portraying a villain who is equally creepy as he is feared and respected by all. He is not a “freak” as were the villains prior to him, but an actual leader who uses his charisma to help him take down Gotham.

Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, was never the hero the city needed but always the one they deserved, and he does not disappoint as he wraps up one of the best sagas of all time.

With an ending that is unforgettable, and an all-star cast like this it is easy to see why “Dark Knight Rises” earns a 9.5 out of 10, and does an excellent job wrapping up the record breaking franchise many fans have come to love… Expand

Yes, TDKR is a good comparison. Thematically deep and resonant (moreso than TDK), but lacking the blatant fan service and the dynamo Joker performance of its predecessor.

The last chapter is great, action and emotions are the best elements, but there is everything that a person could wish for a movie. The Dark Knight is called to face a new enemie, this time is really hard because Batman is not the same that we left in the previous movie. Bane is immediately devastating and Gotham is in trouble, the viewer is forced to watch to discover how the city will survive to a new situation. The dark tones are still the same and we enjoy another great story about Bruce Wayne/Batman, one of the best superheroes of all time.
I liked Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, sinous and brilliant just like the character. The rest of the cast is still perfect, starting with another new entry, Tom Hardy as Bane, continuing with Morgan Freeman, Michael Cane, Gary Oldman.
I love this trilogy and I'm never tired of it, I could always watch these masterpieces.… Expand

A spectacular finale to a legendary trilogy.

The performances are tremendous. Christian Bale gives his best performance as Batman in this movie. Tom Hardy rocks as Bane. Anne Hathaway does a fantastic job at Catwoman. Marion Cotillard isA spectacular finale to a legendary trilogy.

The performances are tremendous. Christian Bale gives his best performance as Batman in this movie. Tom Hardy rocks as Bane. Anne Hathaway does a fantastic job at Catwoman. Marion Cotillard is good in her role also. Michael Caine is so great as Alfred, you really feel sad when you hear him say "I'm so sorry. I failed you, sir.". Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman are both very good as always as their characters. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is great as Blake.

The story has some plot holes, like Bruce being able to get back into the city undetected without his gear, but I think it's a perfect ending to the trilogy as a whole. Nolan and Hardy finally do Bane justice in live action. In Batman and Robin, he was a dumbass and a mindless accessory that needed his button pressed or be told to do something. He did the work of the villains. That is NOT Bane. He is a genius mastermind that always teamed up with others instead of being their slave. This is what he was in Rises. He was intimidating, clearly smart, and caused Batman and Gotham a whole lot of pain. He teamed up with Talia to help her with her plan. Their relationship was like Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, where Bane carried out the actions and Talia was the true boss behind it all. I really like how The Dark Knight Rises pits Batman into a big hole for most of the movie. Whenever he gets put inside a pit, someone always comes to pull him out. But now nobody's coming. He had to find the strength to get out of there and face his fears. This time, he's ready to be Batman again. And as always, Nolan escalates the plot every 10-15 minutes to keep us engaged with gorgeous cinematography and amazing music.

Hans Zimmer does it again with his spectacular soundtrack. I love Bane's theme and that part where Bruce climbs out of the pit. It always blends in with the dialogue, such as "Hoy, you are in for a show tonight, son.".

The action is phenomenal. It captures Batman and Catwoman's fighting skills very well, by the way… Expand

Realistic, gloomy and dynamic. The continuation of the Batman story in The Dark Knight turned out to be much more spectacular than the original 2005 picture thanks to the high-quality work of the entire film crew and a very vivid image of the antagonists: Joker and Two-Face. Such a success is certainly difficult to repeat, but the final part of Nolan's trilogy "The Dark Knight Rises" diligently does it.

The final film, it should be noted, came out quite long, closely approaching the mark of 2 hours and 45 minutes. Whatever this story was, it turned out to be difficult to watch it for so long. The whole film does not leave the feeling that Nolan took this step consciously, trying to fully reveal the characters, as well as effectively finish the narrative about the defenders of Gotham, a city that was plunged into the darkness of violence and lawlessness on a very large scale. In principle, from the point of view of scale, the film pulls on such timing, taking a new peak for itself and demonstrating that Gotham and its inhabitants are in a situation that they have never experienced before.

Bruce Wayne's life seemed to stop after the events of the second film. The creators skillfully show us from the very first frames that Bats retired, became decrepit, became a recluse. The events of The Dark Knight seriously affected Batman, and he never seems to have recovered from them. The atmosphere of the work is literally saturated with apathy, gray colors, oppressive atmosphere. The last challenge for Batman - probably the biggest threat to the Bat-Man and to the entire metropolis is in the person of Bane, who raises the stakes much higher than his predecessors Ras al Ghul and the Joker. But after watching the picture, there is still a feeling that this large-scale project was a success for Nolan an order of magnitude worse than the previous one, where the Oscar-winning Heath Ledger shone so. Actor Tom Hardy failed to present his hero so colorfully, although here, I think, the problem is already in the script and the character himself.

Bane is a colorful enemy of Batman, a creature, as if not even a person, who will definitely test the strength of not only the mind of the protagonist, but also his body. This is a new challenge for the protagonist, who, it seems to me, no longer believes that he can cope with the enemy. Batman is hard not only because he is already tired of life and losses in his superhero role. Batman has aged, has become haggard, does not have such an important support and motivator in the person of his butler Alfred Pennyworth. Michael Caine's performance in this film is very memorable. Despite the man's short screen time, his words, messages, requests and pleas to Bruce sit in the depths of his soul and are remembered for a long time even years after viewing. Kane is a gorgeous actor who so colorfully conveys to us the image of a tired man who had to wait with horror every night for many years that Batman might not return from his next battle with crime. At the same time, it is important to note Kane's dubbing. The voice actor coped perfectly, subtly immersing Russian viewers in all the pains of Alfred's soul.

As for Tom Hardy, he is a good actor who had to not only transform physically globally for the sake of this role, but also play essentially only with his eyes and voice, since his face is hidden under a mask. On the one hand, this mask gives it colorfulness, highlighting just the eyes of the character, and, on the other hand, it significantly complicates the game, because you need to be able to convey various emotions through the look. Also, as before, the dubbing actor Ilya Isaev, whose voice is always penetrating and strong, is on top. Tom Hardy's Bane is a real test for both Batman and the viewer. It is literally a machine for destroying everything around. He and his squad plunge Gotham into an abyss from which there seems to be no way out.

Other heroes are also good: Lucius Fox, Catwoman, Miranda Tate, John Blake, James Gordon. Each of the characters is intelligently played by cool actors. Through their actions and dialogues, we see how Gotham itself is revealed, which, no matter how hard anyone tries, is also going through its worst times. And the last struggle of people for their lives, for their hometown is an evolution, an important step, a manifesto - you can call it whatever you want - for their freedom from tyranny and constant crime.

All the dots over the "I" will be placed here, the director will say everything he wanted within the framework of the completed trilogy. Nolan says goodbye to the franchise well, leaving behind a great legacy - a series of films about an ordinary man who was ready to lay his life on the altar of victory in order to finally show people that they can be free and become who they so want to be… Expand

This is Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), a smart and skilled thief who, despite being caught by Bruce, manages to escape. Curious to find out who she is, Bruce returns to the cave to use the computers that served him so well when he donned the mantle of Batman. Gradually he begins to see signs of the emergence of a new threat to Gotham City, personified in the thug Bane (Tom Hardy). In fact, after finishingThe Dark Knight Rises is a fantastic film, raising the bar for what a superhero film could convey well beyond providing thrilling action sequences: The Dark Knight Rises is thought-provoking, inspiring and emotional. In fact, after finishing The Dark Knight Rises, I later would watch Iron Man 3 and wonder why Aldrich Killian’s motivations felt so shallow compared to those of Bane – in fact, it did feel as though villains of other films suddenly became superficial, and for a time, I found myself with a decreased enjoyment for Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. This subsequently dissipated after I watched Captain America: Civil War; the MCU’s films are fine, and speak to a different set of ideas than do Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. The experience I had resulting from The Dark Knight Rises is a phase that some consumers of fiction go through: after watching something especially well-done, expectations are raised, and going into another film with a different director can often alter one’s enjoyment of things. Unlike the Dark Knight trilogy, the MCU is a long-running series whose greatest strength lies in how well-connected the stories are, and the masterful use of humour. It is therefore unsurprising that the aesthetic, tenour and end messages differ so dramatically, and failing to appreciate this is why the me of a decade earlier initially was more reluctant to watch MCU films. Fortunately, an open mind allowed me to turn around, and in the years subsequent, I would come to greatly enjoy the MCU for what it succeeded in presenting. However, not everyone follows this path: for instance, shortly after K-On! The Movie became available to international audiences, Reckoner of Behind the Nihon Review was quick to dismiss K-On! The Movie as being “disingenuous” and “false advertising” for not delivering the same level of though-provoking content as his favourite work, Ergo Proxy. Such a mindset precludes one from broadening their perspectives; had I remained stuck on that path, I would’ve never been open to enjoying things like Thor: Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame. However, I am ultimately glad to have seen The Dark Knight Rises because it represented a unique experience… Expand

I come back to watch this movie every month or so and I still have the same reactions to everything happening in the movie that I did the first time. It has been eight years since the Batman has been seen in Gotham City. Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) has become a recluse in his own mansion. But danger is approaching in the form of the modern terrorist Bane (Tom Hardy), a huge hulking madman who wants to strike fear into the city residents with using violence. Batman does return just in time, but he must also contend with a petty thief in the form of Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), who is either a reluctant criminal or an even more reluctant ally. The plot is complicated and has a lot of new characters which is fine as long as you pay attention. But isn't that what we should be doing when watching a motion picture? This isn't like "The Avengers" where you're watching a movie based on a comicbook. Nolan's film has much more weight to it. It is a crime drama with its roots in the comicbooks. I like that Nolan has been able to successfully tie the three movies together seamlessly. It really feels like one movie in three installments. Bane was a great villain in the comic book and finally gets to show off on the big screen after a dismal appearance as a thug in "Batman and Robin". "The Dark Knight Rises" is a must see for fans of the genre… Expand

I have definitely watched it more than 30 times. I agree it is one of the greatest movies ever made and even IMDB confirms this as it is ranked as the 73rd greatest film ever.
