I didn't watch this in theatres when it was released, but when I saw it on the telly years later, I was astounded. It was definitely better than the first one. It was definitely better than the first one. The first one did an amazing job at introducing who and what Spider-Man is. Spider-Man 2 lets its fans and audiences delve deeper into his character. This is considered to be the best out of Raimi's trilogy. And it stands firm to this day. Spider-Man 2 is a blast from the past if one were to experience again. But boy, does it get better. You cannot convince me that no one else makes a better Spider-Man than Tobey Maguire.

As someone who was part of the 90s Spiderman hype, this film came out at the perfect time. This film still holds solid after 16 years despite the variousYou cannot convince me that no one else makes a better Spider-Man than Tobey Maguire.

As someone who was part of the 90s Spiderman hype, this film came out at the perfect time. This film still holds solid after 16 years despite the various reboots. Not to mention the upside-down movie kiss that stays a Hollywood movie classic.

They should have ended the series at Tobey's depiction of Spiderman, but I understand that people need to make money on their licensing contracts.

5/5. No other depiction of Spiderman can beat this.… Expand

Back in 2002 I was 11 years old. Among other interests for me was Spider-Man. I had watched the 90's animated series and had odd issues here and there of Amazing Spider-Man comic series. One of my earliest toy memories was a 6 inch Spider-ManBack in 2002 I was 11 years old. Among other interests for me was Spider-Man. I had watched the 90's animated series and had odd issues here and there of Amazing Spider-Man comic series. One of my earliest toy memories was a 6 inch Spider-Man figure which I tied cotton to and swung around the room. So I was incredibly excited when it was released. However I didn't get to see it on the big screen.. I have of course now seen it multiple times on DVD and Bluray. This for me is one the truly great superhero films, not quite to the heights of Spider-Man 2 but still amazing. At the time there was nothing like it. Think about it.. there was maybe X-Men or some terrible Batman films but not much choice in terms of mainstream superhero movies and then bang! Along came Spider-Man. This is before it was cool to like superheroes or comic books.. not like now when there are 5 Marvel films a year and every kid has an Iron Man t-shirt and people think they're a comic book geek because they've watched every Avengers movie. Anyway Spider-Man is a strong beginning to a great trilogy. Tobey Maguire meanders between being a great and somewhat annoying Peter Parker.. he's not perfect but he's my Peter Parker. The one that grew my love even more for Spider-Man and indeed film. Kirsten Dunst as MJ I find perfectly.. meh. Just meh is all I can summon to describe her. Despite this.. the direction is superb. The scenes that are thrown at us, are both exciting and well paced and when needed are not without emotion. Other great points are the film's score. Just awesome, it thrills and stirs emotion. The other thing is the suit.. the best design I think for a Spidey suit.. just excellent. So ok the script or execution of the script is sometimes lacking, the performances are up and down in quality and Green Goblin's suit is just awful. But overall it's a great first outing and adventure to be enjoyed.… Expand

William Defoe playing Norman Osborn / Green Goblin he just playes the role perfectly. Kristen Dunst playing as MJ is so good she maybe be my favorite MJ. The action in this movie is good in my opinion my favorite action scene is Spider Man vs Green Goblin final battle. James Franco playing as Harry Osborn he playes the role good. One of my favorite scenes in the movie is every J Jonah Jameson, the upside down kiss, and the hospital scene with Peter and MJ. And the suit of spider man is my favorite suit in any spider man movie. 9.5/10… Expand

As someone who has read the original comics, I can very much see what all changes have been brought in this movie from the source material. And they have done it absolutely correctly. It seems better to see Peter Parker as someone who choosesAs someone who has read the original comics, I can very much see what all changes have been brought in this movie from the source material. And they have done it absolutely correctly. It seems better to see Peter Parker as someone who chooses to use his proto suit to fight in a cage match than to see him as a celebrity. The scene of Uncle Ben being shot down by a thug was really emotional to see, as he left the message for Peter - "With great power comes great responsibility".
Peter is left to choose his own destiny as a high school teenager who has to deal with a death in the family, his career after school and being a new hope of humanity. At many points throughout the movie I felt that if I were him I would have been completely broken. But that's exactly what makes him a hero. He deals with all the situations and makes it look so simple.
I even feel bad for Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. He had worked so hard on his project but finally it was suspended. He was struck with grief and then the next moment he's the iconic Spider-Man villain. Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin looked way better than the comic counterpart. And his motivations were exactly like how we'd expect Green Goblin to be like.
Spider-Man is one of those movies I often come back to see from time to time. I really like how the very first Spider-Man movie has set a benchmark for the future movies. It looks absolutely natural and has pretty good CGI for its time. The visual tone and colour palette are absolutely like an early 2000s film. It's a must watch movie for anyone starting to see Hollywood movies.… Expand

I know people give Tobey Maguire **** for being meek and a "bad actor," but if you ask me, I like how much of a dork Tobey makes Peter look in this movie. There also tends to be criticism of how Tobey isn't as humourous as Spider-man in the comics, which I agree with, but it's not like he didn't show any humour. On the contrary, he still cracked jokes on par with Spider-man's humour.

Willem Dafoe's performance as the Green Goblin is hilarious, and he does an excellent job at bringing home the insanity that is the Green Goblin. He suits the Goblin so well that I see him as my definitive Green Goblin. Whenever I read a line from the Green Goblin, I hear Willem Dafoe's voice.

Some people may look back on this film and think it's (for lack of a better word) "cringey" because of the campiness. But, honestly, I love the comic book silliness of this film. It makes the movie a lot homier.

If there is anything, I will say, Tobey Maguire has crappy and monotone narration, and I think it would be better without it.… Expand

A great origin story of one of the best superheroes of all time. I absolutely loved Willem Dafoe's performance as the Green Goblin he is probably one of the most comic accurate villains I have seen in any superhero movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not only an amazing Spider-Man take, but also an amazing movie overall.
Likeable characters, thrilling action scenes and great Drama. Each and every person in this movie came out directly from a Comic-Book from the 1960's with all it's campiness but not in a bad way. The script is so well-written and the actors fit so well in this corny world that it only feels natural and charming. Peter's arc of going from the kid who says "Stop pretending to be (my father)!" to his Uncle to a (Spider) man who has the maturity to say "I have a father, his name was Ben Parker" is brilliant, Mary Jane's struggles to learn how to have self-value and understand love is beautiful and there's also an amazing Set-Up for a future Harry Osborn arc. William DaFoe is also a joy to watch and he succeds in delivering a villain that makes me fear him to the point that I feel he's a threat even to Tom Holland's Spider-Man (who faced Thanos, mind you). No words are needed here. THIS IS JUST A LEGEND!!!! I give this movie 90% also because I know better movies with Spider-man. But for 2002, this movie was simply incredible. Amazing CGI, Amazing Story, Amazing Action, Amazing Spider-man!

incredible!One of the best Spider-Man movies ever.The characters are good, deep and we really care about them, except for MJ.JJJ is wonderful, very good, the green elf is not even spoken, only the costume is strange.Sam raimi did very well.

This movie isn't perfect but for me it's a classic and has (for me) the best version of Spider-Man to ever hit the screens. I give it a re-watch from time to time for that nostalgia craving moments and it never disappoints.

I want to give a 10 to this movie because I've been sitting here for 2 minutes and I couldn't find something about this movie that I didn't like. This is exactly what I want to see in a comic book movie. This is exactly what I want to see in a comic book movie. This masterpiece was needed because we had to see a reboot of this superhero, and Raimi managed to do a perfect picture to make the saga begin. The characters and the villain are fantastic, the pace is flawless, the double life of Peter Parker is perfectly combined during the advancement of the movie and the change of Peter Parker and the rise of spiderman were perfect. The special effects are very good also. But do we want to talk about the swinging of spiderman? IT WAS GREAT, probably the best one I ever saw in a spiderman movie. It was super smooth. The actors and director made a phenomenal job, just as the whole crew that worked on this piece of art. The finale doesn't let you dissatisfied, thinking that there is something missing, because it's self-contained. In fact, this movie didn't even need a sequel, this was enough for the story, and it was perfect just like that. (I liked that they wanted to make sequels, so we could see more villains fighting against spiderman). This movie can be defined in only two words: Absolute Masterpiece. Thx for reading.… Expand

And it is officially a masterpiece. Its flaws are very minor. For example, the Green Goblin's costume is not very interesting, or the special effects are not very strong. They didn't work (on the other hand, the stunts of the actors are extremely strong and the battle sequences become more natural) and I felt that James Franco's performance could have been better.
Instead, all the actors are excellent. From Tobey Maguire, who is the undisputed star of the film, to Cliff Robertson and Bill Nunn, who play extremely important roles, they have done a great job. Peter and Mary Jane are amazing. And the only thing I can do for this is Begham movie is that its epic and emotional moments affected me more than its action, and whenever the name of this movie comes up, I remember them.… Expand
