This movie is great. The voice acting is excellent, the plot is just fine, and the animation is out of this world. It's definitely this movie's biggest strength.

What hurt the movie the most was its "trendy" soundtrack, or rather, when it was being played. Whenever the movie tried to make us care about whatever was happening by playing some emotional "trendy" music, my mind'd go "Yeah, that seems forced."

All that said, Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse is the most unique super-hero movie I've ever seen and that's mostly thanks to its incredible stylized "comic-like" animation.

Many of these attempts fail, however, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse manages to achieve something highly unique in style. This uniqueness makes everything that plays out on screen seem highly original and entertaining.

The plot was good, although some aspects of it could have been developed further. The charm of the typical spider man was achieved. With regards to the multiple spider men and women in parallel universes, it was interesting and provided an edge and some interesting concepts, however, I could have done with a gentler ease into anime and warner bros. The movie is clearly designed for kids and I couldn't help but unwind while watching this film and not think about it too much. I have a feeling that this film will become a childhood favorite for many of the younger generation who watched this whilst also being appreciated by older generations also.

Combined with a low rendered frame rate during non-combat scenes (low FPS so lip syncing is terrible), and a bizarre decision to render some of the 3D models with full physically based perfection, while the rest is cell shaded, add to the lack of immersion in what little story there is. Two of the spider characters are also terrible additions, that turn this into a very jeuvinile experience half-way through the movie. This is about as creative as dropping three hits of LSD, grabbing a couple of cans of paint, and decorating the neighbourhood in chaos. You either have to be a child, have a very low threshold for entertainment, or have been living in a cave to think this was anything other than mediocre. If that does describe you, they you are going to like this (a lot apparently). Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've always love spiderman from comics, animated series, video games, and movies and it's been in my childhood for basically my whole life. Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse is by far the best animated film last year and I would recommend everyone to watch this movie.

I have a lot of positive things to say but let me say one thing, I feel like the other spidermen that I think they arrived mid-way to the film such as Spider-ham, Spiderman Noir and Peni Parker, I felt like they didn't have much character development. However, I don't really get bothered with that as they were performed excellently by the voice actor and actress so I don't really care. Okay now for the positive: First off, the animation looks amazing, it gives you the sense of the old-style of comic books which is very nostalgic and actually looks beautiful to your eyes. I thought Miles Morals I was a great main character and I thought Shameik did a great job and so as the other voice actors and hearing Nicolas cage, OMG he was good. Kingpin was a really good villain, he had a good reason as to the machine he is building and he's just all around a villain you don't want to mess with. Even the other villains like Prowler (which had a good twist that me actually surprised). Miles Moral's relationship with Gwen and his parents felt natural and not cliche and it just felt real almost. Again there are twists that actually made me surprised and there were unexpected moments which made me shocked and I have to give credits to the directors who decided to do that. The music in this movie is fantastic, sunflower was pretty good but What's up danger really was the highlight. It sounded like a villain's theme song. However, it's going towards Miles after his uncle revealed he was Prowler and he gets shot. It's like he took the roles of his uncle and his father and make it better. Aunt May sits there with a cup of tea and says "took you long enough" and first of all, badass. The song fits perfectly with Miles as he does the leap of faith which clearly he was nervous because the glass breaks meaning he was stuck to the glass which I thought was pretty awesome. This is one of my favorite animated featured and probably one of my favorite spidermen movies and I highly recommend it

You have to watch this movie in I-max. Now, onto the real review. The story is absolutely amazing. While it may seem like another generic superhero story at the start, hidden beneath is an absolutely amazing coming of age story with well thought out dialogue and sub plots. The aesthetic (different form animation) is jaw dropping. The music is also good. The only complaint I have is that the animation can be a little choppy at times, but you get used to it after a few minutes. I give it a 10/10. Expand

Great characters and backstories that were handled very well did the movie justice and keeps you invested for the whole movie.

The fact that it is animated is the icing on the cake: it has an art style that is bold and different, emphasizing that this is literally a comic book that comes to life. However, such razzle dazzle will all be for nothing without an incredibly solid and engaging story line and characters. The fact that this film has loads of Spider-'men', each having their own arc is an amazing feat. It has also action set pieces that are incredible, the best in 2018. Literally, the best Spider-man flick since Sam Raimi's saga many years ago. Expand

...not to be alone

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse(90/100)

A very different MCU movie experience. Most of the characters in this film were introduced after I stopped reading comics and were new to me.

Humor Score(20/20) Maybe the funniest cast-wide performance in the MCU. Robert Downey Jr.'s wit on a troupe-wide scale.

"Death" Score(20/20) For a film that is so fast moving and funny this movie strikes a great balance with the mortality that is so evident in the unfolding events of the film and the backgrounds of the character's lives. Every time someone is in danger you really believe they might perish. The risks of the calling they've undertaken are at the forefront of the story and never far from our minds.

"Being Alone" Score(20/20) I don't know if I've seen a film since Witness that juggles so many big themes so well. With great power comes great responsibility and also, it seems, a good bit of isolation. Some of these characters have loved, lost, and decided not to love at all. Maybe as they save the world they can rescue the possibility of friendship for themselves as well.

Family Score(20/20) A third great theme. In a 2 hour movie there's only so much depth you can explore here but the scenes with Miles and and his dad are fabulous. The scene as dad drops him off for school is hilarious. The scene on either side of Miles' dorm room door is touching even though Miles doesn't(well, can't) say anything.  You want Miles to reach out to his Dad for help at that point but he eventually finds his own way to deal with his problem. Their final encounter in the street makes me long to see how their relationship develops.

"Spider-Lair" Score(5/10) A tough scene to pull off and I don't think they quite did it. Given the composition of the full team this scene came off as a little silly.

Mise-En-Scene Score(5/10) The Collider battles were sometimes just a big splash of color. You couldn't tell what was happening.

90/100

Spiderman fans (and super-hero fans, in general) might not like the story because it's not your typical comic-book story. But, I am not a fan of super-hero movies and the story is ok with me, except that the fight at the end is too long (like in every other super-hero movie).

I swore off animated movies. Having gone into a sugar coma while viewing the highly-regarded “Paddington 2” (2017), I vowed never again. In this case, I’m glad I broke the rules.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” breaks plenty of rules on its own. Along the way, it offers a variety of pleasant surprises. There’s a cameo by Stan Lee (creator of the Marvel Comics franchise) selling Spider-Man costumes and validating that we’re all Spider-Man by gruffly confirming that his one-size-fits-all costumes fit everybody - at some point. There’s Mahershala Ali (Uncle Aaron) not lighting up the screen with his presence, primarily because he’s not on the screen. There’s Liev Schreiber (Kingpin) showing his dramatic range by shifting from his dour, but excellent, role in “Ray Donovan” to Spider-Man’s dour nemesis. In a total shocker, there’s Nicholas Cage (Spider-Man Noir) appearing in an interesting movie. There’s Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Woman/Gwen Stacy) in another transformative role. There’s Byron Tyree Henry as, wait for it, Jefferson Davis, the father of our Afro-Puerto Rican protagonist. It’s all just weird and wildly wonderful.

The plot is also predictably bizarre. As part of his plan for world domination, Kingpin has built an atomic collider that inadvertently creates a rip in the space/time continuum. Our protagonist Miles Morales (Shameik Moore – 2015’s “Dope”), a 16-year-old student at Brooklyn Visions Academy, is bitten by a mechanical spider. Soon enough, he explores his developing super powers and is out to thwart Kingpin. Because of the disruption in the space/time continuum, other Spider characters are able to come to his aid: the aforementioned Spider-Woman, Spider-Man (Chris Pine), Older Spider-Man/Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), Spider-Noir (Cage as a black-and-white character in a trench coat), and, my personal favorite, Spider-Ham/Peter Porker (John Mulaney) who bears a striking resemblance to Elmer Fudd. Back to the plot: on the brink of world disaster, they collectively save the day.

Even visually, this film is disorienting. There is conventional CGI, Ben-Day dots (used regularly in vintage comic books), an anime character (Peni Parker, voiced by Kimiko Glenn), thought balloons, even written sound effects reminiscent of the old “Batman” TV series (1966-1968). Directors Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman and Robert Persichetti, Jr. have pulled out all the stops. It’s all so bizarrely unique that Sony is reportedly trying to patent the processes used to craft these unique visual mash-ups.

If you are looking for a logical/linear story line or deep insight into the human condition, get serious. You really expected that from comic book characters?! But if you want a strange but wondrous adventure, in the immortal words of Steppenwolf (1968), “You don’t know what/We can find/Why don’t you come with me little (gender neutral pronoun)/On a magic carpet ride.”

In one day he found spider-man fighting his enemies in a machine, that machine was a key to travel between another universes and for a sequence of facts a bunch of spider-men got in the same universe in need to go back home. Directed by Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman. Written by Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman.
The story in this film is great, even if you know how it is going to end, it doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the whole journey full of surprises and great, memorable moments.I think that it was perfect what they established since the very beginning, telling and showing us that the events that we have already saw in another movies, comics or cartoons, did happened to that spider-man, it was so important because it made me care so much more about some events, events that got me crying. There is a funeral sequence in this movie that worked really hard, it gave the perspective from the society getting the message, you could feel the sadness, the lose of hope, an idol that inspired you being gone, you could feel all of that, it was great. The introduce you Peter Parker like it should, you already know him, so it just gave a little reminder of some interesting parts and, important, quickly. Now, the introdution of Miles Morales was perfect, you got to know him really fine, understand what he do, his struggles with family and school, and most important, that he is NOT a choosen person that was destined to be a super hero, he is a regular person like any of us, that has problems like any of us and by chance he got bitten by a spider that gave him powers. The whole journey for Miles in here is great and felt natural, things didn't felt off or over something, he is first normal and then got powers and a situation that he can't handle or understand, so in some moment he feels down and depressed and after some event with certain speech he got hope and find strenght to do something great, it isn't the most original thing ever, right? But trust me, the way it is done isn't conventional at all. The way things are setted up is a really good point as well, it helps in having emotional, funny and action moments, and all of that works in overall, there some bad jokes, or some not that good action, but, again, in overall it is really nice.
There are a lot of references about the whole spider-man culture that exist, about games, comics, old cartoons, old movies, everything, and they are all so great, they aren't just as free references that consumes time from the movie, it does works together with the story and it is really awesome. The school ambience im this film was really nice and real, wich is important, so as the neighborhood.
The main villain does have a good motivation to do what he is doing, even if it isn't much explored. There are another villains that show up, all nice looking and different. There are some moments during the last action moments that maybe was way to much, and some characters that felt so coincidence that really were there that showed up at some point. The multiverse in here is good explored. All the spider-something characterd that we have are different in many ways, they don't waste time telling a lot about each one of them, but they do let you know them better for what they say and do during their time on screen. Another thing that did got me hard in this movie was some dialogues that really let me thinking and learning about some good stuff. The turning point dialogue between Miles and his father really got me, remembered me of how strong family is. Other point was the one where they all understand each other, don't matter how different and strange you might be, there always is someone like you, that will understand and help to make the better version of you, even if they are from another universe.
The visual identity in this film is really great, it is different from most animations that are out there, it looks like modern comic books arts. It works really fine, in many aspects, and action is one of those, the colors jumping out the screen, all of that is really good. The soundtrack is another hight point in here, really heroic, in some moments remember the original scores from another movies or shows. The cinematography is really fun, the movimentation of the camera are really fun and intuitive. There are moments when what the character is thinking show up on screen like in a comic, or when a hit happens the "BOOM" is written on screen, just like the Batman tv show.
This film is really fun, there are some very nice deep moments, different spider people, not just people, that gives different layers to the characters, fantastic film.

It gives so much love to fans both young and old, even a comic reader myself, i was still floored by the twists that came in this film.
It handles so smoothly to make a movie that everyone can enjoy, so that even people who aren't spider man fans can find something they can enjoy about this movie. However i cannot say its perfect, there are moments the movie can get a little hard to watch with the way the animation looks, a little seizure inducing at the climax, and unfitting music that comes in at unreasonable times, but in spite of what the movie gets right, these are minor complaints.
Spider-Verse is not at all what i expected, but i loved it anyway, it shows such an inspiring story, with sharp humor that comes in at the right time, that are coupled with well written characters that you can't wait to see what happens next.
In conclusion, spider-verse is not only the best Spider Man movie i have ever seen, it is also the best animated movie i have ever seen. A total must watch.

The animation is drop dead gorgeous and makes me hope that there are more theatrically released animated comic book movies, this film only had a budget of $90 million and they were able to do so much with the budget they were given, and the animation tricks they used to cut costs actually fit in perfectly with the style of animation to make it feel like a living, breathing comic book. The story wasn't particularly complex but it didn't need to be, it knows exactly what it is and it nails it. The casting was great too, I thought I wasn't going to like Jake Johnson as a middle aged slob Peter Parker but I loved every second of him, Shameik Moore as Miles Morales was great and absolutely nailed the role as a high schooler trying to find his place in the world, Nicholas Cage was hilarious as spider-man noir and stole every scene he was in and it makes me happy to see this awesome character finally recognized by mainstream audiences and I was quite surprised by the more comedic take on him, but it worked perfectly. Kingpin was an alright bad guy, not bad, but not doc ock from spider-man 2. He worked for what the film was and if they over characterized him the film would probably feel overstuffed, so i'm glad that they went with what they did. TLDR: Into the Spider-verse is easily the best spider-man film in my opinion and definitely deserves your money, show sony that we'll support great filmaking like this so we don't get really bad but kind of enjoyable films like venom. They'll listen to your wallets, so go out and support this film because it absolutely deserves it. Expand

It wasn't the first time I'd heard of Miles Morales, but this movie got me to read every comic with Miles in it. While the music wasn't the sort I usually listen to, I loved the way music was used in this film-- I felt like they utilized the soundtrack as well as Baby Driver at times. Though Miles was without question the main character in this story, the film also gives us a fresh take on Peter Parker that I would argue was more grounded and compelling than the majority of adult Peters in the comics. They showed that turning Peter into an adult with adult problems and disappointments doesn't make him 'unrelatable' but on the contrary, fulfils Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's the original vision of Spider-Man as an everyman hero. I hope that comic book writers will see the success of this movie and allow Peter to grow up in the comics (he's Peter Parker, not Peter Pan, guys). Fantastic movie all around. Fun for all ages. This film is the product of Sony Pictures Animation-- the same studio behind the Emoji Movie. The creators of this film make it feel like an actual comic book movie and it plays fun with the idea that superhero origin stories are drawn out. The voice acting is great as are the interactions between characters. Miles still has both his parents alive and that makes this story different than that of Peter Parker because of how much this film focuses on relationships between family members.

The villains are interested and have not been portrayed in a cinematic Spider-Man movie in their current forms. Furthermore the film is full of twists that will keep you guessing even if you have engaged in a wide array of Spider-Man media in the past. The writing is more on the humorous side, but unlike many films that have tried that approach recently, this film's humor doesn't subtract from the overall experience, rather it enhances it. The film is not so full of one-liners that subsequent watches will be lessened. In addition, the unique animation in this film is superb and is complimented by an amazing soundtrack that manages to fit the themes of the film even if you are not the biggest fan of the genre (rap/hip-hop). The only downside to the film is that while making fun of the drawn out super hero origin stories, the movie becomes one by basically setting up the Spider-verse for future installments in this series that will likely continue sovereign from the MCU. This film is a must see for fans of Spider-Man, comic books, animation, or anyone who wants to see one of the best films of 2018.

The middle was filled with interesting characters that each had their own stories and reasons for who they are. The ending was amazing. The action scenes were detailed and spectacular. The characters got better and you could see how the progressed from the begging to the end of this movie. Miles Morales is a great character, as a person and a Spider-Man. I recommend it. Expand

Here the talented pair, along with Avi Arad and Peter Ramsey, turn their hand to a beloved Marvel item who is no stranger to a reboot; Spider-Man. But, this time we’re not being subjected to yet another Uncle Ben death scene; Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse tells the origin story of another Spidey, plucky teen, Miles Morales (an energetic Shameik Moore) as he grapples with the infamous Kingpin (Liev Schreiber), helped by a number of inter-dimensional “Spider-people”… including a washed-up, cynical Peter Parker (voiced with a nonchalant drawl by Jake Johnson). We watch as Miles grapples with finding his feet after an unfortunate interaction with a radioactive arachnid, in a hearty and humorous adventure, that feels distinctly Lord and Miller.
Into the Spider-Verse is a noticeably different adaptation of the friendly neighbourhood superhero; from the outset, the film cheekily satirises the incessant rebooting of its character (a flashback to a certain Spider-Man 3 moment gives perhaps the biggest laugh). Plenty of fun is poked out of comic-book movie tropes too; this doesn’t change the fact however that, plot-wise, Into the Spider-Verse has little to offer in terms of originality, its narrative as predictable as a Saturday morning TV cartoon. The film almost makes this redundant, however, through a stylish and confident execution, that feels fresh. Lord and Rodney Rothman’s script is full of wry humour, quick-witted, yet full of heart and honesty. Miles Morales is also a more fleshed out lead than we are used to from Marvel (despite a slightly easy resolution to his arc) and his band of misfits, whilst largely one-note, are fun enough to carry the film with ease. Brian Tyree Henry and Mahershala Ali are unfeigned as Miles’ father and uncle respectively and Jake Johnson is simply brilliant in an incarnation of Peter Parker hitherto undreamt of. An antagonist in the form of Kingpin is more disappointing, a forced motivation leaving him uninteresting and decidedly by-the-numbers. The movie leaves us little time to think on its faults though; it takes a relentless, yet natural, pace through riveting action sequences and comedic montages, with the ease of a web swing.
Into the Spider-Verse’s greatest strength, however, is its design. The animation is unique and aesthetic, delightfully reminiscent of an old-school comic strip. The film feels like a very real homage to its source material, the comic in comic book movie always coming first. Into the Spider-Verse won’t be remembered for breaking ground in plot and character, but its design alone is enough to make you want to go back for more.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have assembled a fun and frenetic film which, whilst standard on paper, is executed with artistry and flair. An incarnation of the world’s favourite superhero surely to be remembered.

"Hey..."

I'm honestly astonished how much I liked this, because before I couldn't be bothered with yet another incarnation of Spider-Man.

Despite a cliched narrative towards the end with "everyone doubts the main hero and he needs to prove himself", type of trope, and inappropriate song choices during dramatic moments - yet that didn't bog down the experience for me.

Still, I wished this movie came out during my childhood when Spider-Man was my bible, as I would've died and gone to heaven from the feeling of glee.

I think the message that anyone can be Spider-Man, no matter your race, gender and sexuality is powerful and empowering.

Some of the best animation I've seen in awhile. Refreshing to find little details that people may not pick up on. It's so creative and visually wonderful, it pops out of the screen. The action scenes are exciting and the comedy was generally funny. Every character is handed with care and it's clear that the creators understand the different incarnations of Spider-Man.

It's tragic seeing mass audiences overlooking this germ - 2018 is the year of the spider.

It makes use of unique comic book innovations in its graphic design and layouts. It almost like they let Marvels world class comic artists go to work and make their movie. The quality of the action sequences is unmatched. The use of layers of text and animation is brilliant. If you are a true comic book fan, you must see this film while its still in theaters. You probably cant see this in IMAX, but check it in Real 3D and sit in the front five rows to get an immersive VR like experience. The use of animation layers is ground breaking. If you think the animation was scribble... Then you don't know the work of one of top two greatest comic book artists of all time, Bill Sienkiewicz. Expressive energetic use of lines and and textures give this film an extra edge beyond any animated movie you have seen. The story walks the line between formulaic Hollywood sentimentality and over the top comic book bombast and delivers something both familiar and groundbreaking. The character animation and voice performances are charismatic and believable. The new Spiderman feels real. He feels modern and relevant. There is no comic book franchise reboot that is this daring and successful. It makes Thor: Ragnaraok seem tame and conservative. This is the new bar that all super hero movies will be judged. It makes every super hero movie before it seem dated and obsolete and It raises the bar for all animated movies. Bravo! Expand

Web Of Parallel Lies.

Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse

Marvel's sci-fi diverse superhero flick is more than a flung news, infinitely stretched over the narrow streets, it is set in a known universe; home, New York. Endorsing its ownself into a comical idea that jumpstarts this cat and mouse chase is less promising and more exciting. The first act involves your usual teenage drama that feels like an indie film, a surprising take by Marvel. But all this trickery is shattered pretty much in its first few minutes, as this visual galore swings you like a toddler and you are beames back into your childhood memories.

This vision of yours is too shattered by the makers by complicating the linear humane tale into a labyrinthe of dual identities that keeps multiplying like an algorithm which keeps you at the brisk of your seat and challenges you to stay with the storytelling. And this is where the makers shine, despite of being gifted a plethora of tracks or ideas and being free of all logistics, they have sticked to an arguably a simpler one that is constructed well enough for the audience to nod along. Similar to any other animated feature, it makes it more juicy due to its tied hands, the conflicts that the lead characters are piled upon is what makes it electrifying.

But this is Lord's world at some point. And his pacing vocab can easily be pointed out in here. Similar to The Lego Movie, there are too many characters to adore on screen and each of them trying to whirl you around with their hilarious innuendos or their own sub-plots or pointing out the obvious on the stage. It is the Lego phase all over again. You are too overwhelmed at times, to enjoy it thoroughly. You are too busy to catch up with what's going on that you do feel left out.

There is a sense of incompetency in the air, ironically due to overstuffed material. And this is something that can itch to few viewers as you feel being cheated. Personally, I enjoy such narration, it challenges me to push my boundaries and snaps at me on every frame for my attention. The action is more "cool" than it is smart, the artists are stealing the awe struck moments as much as they can. And with a new smooth visual effects like such, they do add the literal transcript on screen and the infamous comic sound effects written out aloud in front of you.

The voice cast has done a decent work but there isn't much for them to factor than few show stealing one liners that stay with you, even after the curtains are dropped for long; the Spider-Man Noir learning the colors on cube still cracks me up. But amidst all these glossy distraction there is, the theme, the gist, is still the same old drama, no matter what Peter says in here, I am going to complete the sentence, "With great powers comes great responsibilities." Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse is a family drama that swings its way out to create that arc into a full circle.

Sony animations made up for the emoji movie with this film. While I wasn’t particularly impressed with this film for its original and complex storyline, the animation is simply amazing.

The stylised animation is what holds the film up where it’d otherwise be lacking. Even if I didn’t like the overarching plot of the movie, the animation alone would’ve kept me invested for the entire runtime. It has such a comic book vibe to it that other comic book movies lack and as a result end up looking stately shot. Into the spiderverse uses a lot of songs, some of which were good and fit in, but other times so would just intrude when we’re supposed to feel emotion. The film had likeable leads for the most part. Nobody was unbearable, but none of the characters were particularly interesting or complex. Our main trio: Miles, Peter And Gwen all had characters arcs though, so that’s passable. My main complaint would be that I found Miles kind of cringey at the start of the movie, and it wasn’t an intentional teenage cringe that I felt while watching something like “Eighth grade.” The storyline these characters traversed through wasn’t all that original, but I don’t think it needed to be. The storywork could’ve been better, but could’ve been so much worse. As for the humour: Half the jokes were quite clever and got a chuckle out of me, the other half were fairly half-assed and just left me with my face in my palm.

Overall, into the spiderverse was a fun movie. I liked all of the leads and some of the jokes were funny, but I wasn’t emotionally invested in the film when it wanted me to be. If you like the animation based off the trailers, you will like this film, potentially love it. I can’t say I’m going to be rewatching this anytime soon, but it was a fun thing to watch, especially on my birthday.

The animation is spectacular when the characters talk the framerate slows down when there's an action scene though the frame rate increases. There's a lot of other little details including thought bubbles, cartoon lines, and the spider people. Kingpin is a great villain, I'm not gonna say anyone more but just know he's an amazing villain. I will say the pacing from one point to another is just a bit too slow, including on action scene involving a train. The characters all feel natural and no one acts out of character and follow their own motivation. One villain, in particular, is fantastic and completely surprised me. If you've seen the movie you know which one I'm talking about. Now the soundtrack is pretty good, the music they chose fit most of the movie, there's like one scene where they could've changed the music. The tracks by Daniel Pemberton(the original movie tracks) were my favorite and I wished they were in the movie more, cause they were great. Overall the movie's great and definitely deserves a watch Expand

Today, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse accurately depicts more than just that: what it means to put on the red mask.

It’s no secret, however, that superheroes give bad relationship advice, as Mary Jane Watson has always been so awful to Peter. Here, while there’s also a usual mentor relationship for Brooklyn teen Miles, things really get kicked off by his affection for Gwen Stacy, who mostly stands as a believable yet cheap love interest. She does get to become more of a character later, but the way she’s introduced isn’t enough to hook female viewers. Spider-Man is essentially worshipped as a god for everyone to submit their identities to, but this movie also tries to make us feel sad for the “humanized” villain, Kingpin, by giving him a forgettable tragic backstory. Any sadness attempted falls flat because it’s brought up using a noisy, hyper, seizure-inducing color spectrum; the worst possible method of entertaining kids.

We perhaps are getting a taste of the dark cinematic superhero era of 1995, back when its insincere cheesiness peaked by a certain director whose name rhymes with Moel Bumacher. Although in this case, it works to its advantage, as some anime influence pops up by the visual of a spider on ultraviolet hallucinogens. Other old comic book imagery makes its way in, like yellow box text projecting Miles’ thoughts. There are plenty other creative spins to make this its own distinct identity, one that sprays graffiti paint over your own eyesight of Ben Parker’s “great power, great responsibility” quote. Miles’ extra-dimensional mentor, Mister Peter B. Parker, now hates Uncle Ben’s quote, so a new uncle figure (and aunt figure) arrive for a new 2018 audience. Such new changes to the formula help deliver an important new message to learn: You can’t save everybody.

Regrettably, the screenwriters, which include Phil Lord of The LEGO Movie, couldn’t save their script. I know superhero worlds often embrace absurdity, except the logic of this superhero world matches a child’s mind, its coincidences removing justification of the ridiculous dialogue, particularly Miles’ incapacity to tell his dad he loves him. Also, Spider-Man comics exist within Miles’ world… for some unexplained reason. The poor writing goes to the unconvincing dialogue ruined all the further by overly dramatic music queueing in a surprise villain twist. These detriments to Miles’ character arc spark the numerous bad qualities of old comic books.

That doesn’t mean the good visual qualities of old comic books are useless, quite the opposite in fact. As a response to his police officer father forcing him to attend “Visions Academy,” Miles appears to imagine the entire world as a comic book. Little “peck-peck-pecks” pop out of several pigeons in a sense of comic book cheesiness done correctly. While a retro battle against a giant Green Goblin takes on an old classic feel, a snow-ridden grave under flowers suggest influence from modern graphic novels. These moments all come together with a constant implementation of little vinyl dots across the screen to match an old comic strip on newsprint. Those little details balance the harshness of the past and harshness of the present, like cartoons birthing a “millenialized” baby boomer society to redefine heroism.

Its satire of the Raimi trilogy comes full circle to be not just funny, but insightful, in what needs to change. To complete revisionist touches of the superhero icon’s maturation for our modern lens, the women get their chance to suit up, particularly Gwen Stacy and her accidentally awesome haircut; not to mention Doc Ock is now female! That means we ALL get a chance to be Spider-Man!

Now, how am I Spider-Man? For one, the many difficulties come at times when helpful people aren’t always around. Example: Several months ago, I lost my wallet at the grocery story, so then began the recovery process by ordering a replacement driver’s license… which arrived a mere days before I found my wallet in the pantry. It’s a stupid moment of unnecessary freaking out, but sums up what 2018 was all about for me: becoming 100% financially dependent on myself in the same process of self-discovery and self-help that Peter Parker went through when he needed to become Spider-Man.

And finally, I ought to point out how this movie tributes Stan Lee. Amid his recent death, Stan’s latest cameo gives the man great respect that would guarantee tears of joy.

Was that very hard to make a very decent Spider-man movie, Sony?

Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse is directed by Peter Ramsey, Robert Persichetti Jr. and Rodney Rothman, screenplay by Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman, and voices-starring by Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld and Mahershala Ali.

Story by Phil Lord, and it's about Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

First time I heard about this movie I wasn't that hype about the idea of the movie or the animation. The trailer wasn't so clear about its animation, or the very bold storyline! When I went to see this movie I was blown away by the striking animation and the bold storytelling.. I think it's a very risky step for Sony to take, to make a very unique, new and comic-alike animation, I mean what if the audience didn't like it? It could have been a big disappointing movie, because it has an amazing story, I think this story is definitely the best story of the whole Spiderman movies, also the animation is amazing, it's flawless! When an animation movie brings the live-action movies down, it means that it's definitely unique and bold!!

The story didn't take so long to get you into the main plot, it went with its surprising "scene" -I'm not gonna spoil anything in this review- and though it made a very good introduction of the characters, so the first act was very good, shocking and humorous too!

The second act still a very funny and thrilling as the first act, introducing the rest of the characters, so it took more time to get us back to the main plot, and I loved it, because some characters wasn't that clear in the first act that I wanted to know more about, and others that I wanted more of their backstories because I liked them! After introducing the "rest of the characters" we get another shocking scene, driving us to another shocking scene.. excuse me if I'm mysterious about some stuff, but I don't want to spoil anything, and still, if you watched the movie, you're gonna understand me very well.

The third act was very predictable though, but still very thrilling because of its amazing animation combined with the amazing action, and emotions... Oh yeah, the third act is completely emotional, and action-full!

There're not any subplots like Fantastic Beasts the Crimes of Grindelwald or something, it's very straight and clear.. very good for kids, and amazing for Spider-man fans and adults as well.

I think that Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse is the Spider-Man that we deserve as fans of Spider-Man and it's definitely the best Spider-Man movie of all the time.! And of course, Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse gets an A+!

Alright, guys.. thank you as always for reading and supporting my work, and if you liked this you can click on my name above and read all of my reviews, lots of movie-reviews are coming ahead.. thanks again!

No matter how goodBefore I say anything about the movie, I just wanted to talk about the reason why I gave this movie a 9/10 instead of a 10/10(Even though I am extremely tempted to do so). A 10/10 would mean the movie is "Perfect". No matter how good something is, nothing, absolutely nothing in this world can be "Perfect". There is and there will always be room for improvement. I wanted to keep some wiggle room in case a sequel is announced. Now, with all that being said, let's get down to business.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a love letter to comic book fans, Miles Morales fans, and superhero moviegoers. A true masterpiece. The art style, characters, music, and story just scream quality and blends together EXTREMELY WELL.

- The art style is AWESOME. The movie is not completely animated, it is a mix of CGI and animation. Every frame and every scene has been meticulously crafted to show style, quality, and the depth of the climate. Not only that, but it also has tons of comic book imagery, for example, art panels and thought bubbles. This would make any comic book lover drool.

- The characters are amazing. With such a talented cast to voice the characters with such perfection, no wonder the characters in this movie were so lovable and funny. Not once did I feel like any of the Spider-Man characters were there just for the sake of fan service. Every character had a role to play in this movie.

- The music in this movie is just so freaking good!!!!!!!!

- As for the story, I will not give any spoilers, but damn was the story absolutely amazing. What I will say is, STICK AROUND TILL THE VERY END. The movie shows a VERY well known Spider-Man "Meme"/Fan-Service and a very well deserved hint for a sequel.

This movie is by far the greatest superhero movie in my opinion. TRUST ME, you will NOT REGRET watching this movie, so go and watch it... NOW!!!!!!

P.S. The fact that this movie came out of Sony, the same company behind The Emoji Movie, is mind-boggling to me.

It's well and truly its own story that focuses on the character of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and his pretty ordinary teenage life. Dealing with his father's moral ways because he's a cop, coping to get through school even though it's boring for him. Everything just gets routine for him, except for the one person he looks up to, his uncle Aaron Davis (Mahershala Ali) who gives him the right amount of confidence boost that he needs in his daily life. Miles also meets a young girl in his class, Gwen Stacey (Hailee Steinfeld), and she appreciates his wit and even odd - yet quirky - personality. One day, Miles stumbles across an incident that involves the evil Kingpin (Liev Schreiber) who has invented a device that can create portals from one universe crossing paths with another. A rift causes another Peter Parker (Jake Johnson) to slip through the vortex and enter the universe that Miles is in. Miles aspires to be just like Peter after he was also bitten by a radioactive spider, but Peter tells him that there is much to learn. It seems that Peter isn't the only one that crossed paths with Miles, as there are a handful of other "Spider-People" that somehow got lost into this universe too, from; Spider-Noir (Nicolas Cage), Spider-Gwen, Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn) and Spider-Ham (John Mulany). They all team up to try and come up with a plan to get each of them home back to their own universes. The movie certainly is a breath of fresh air into a character we have seen in the movies so many times before. This may just seem like Sony - once again - trying to cash-in on the character, but thanks to a script by Phil Lord ('The LEGO Movie') and Rodney Rothman, it has heart and very self-aware humor that keeps it afloat. It acknowledges its silliness and embraces that, it's overstuffed but also is aware of that too. Most importantly, it captures the spirit of the Spider-Man character and the world (or 'worlds') that he inhabits. Sony has been desperately trying to adapt a Miles Morales story for years and years, and this is the best introduction for him, especially for people who may not be familiar with his story. The animation is eye-popping as well, making it feel like a comic book leaping off the pages. Overall, this movie is fun, fast-paced, touching and wildly funny. If you love Spider-Man, this might just be the movie you've been looking for since 'Spider-Man 2' (2004). Expand
