This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spiderman far from home is basically rehashing the plot from spriderman 2 but fails in every way when trying. It explores the idea of spiderman having doubt about being spiderman and losing his powers. Peter struggles with wanting a normal life and needing to be spiderman. Mind you this is spidersman 4th apperance in this universe. He for most of the movie just fumbles around on screen pining over MJ which gets old fast. When he is spiderman he comes off as only a side kick to mysterio. Even asking him for permission to fight an elemental. Which doesnt make any sense when he willing chased thanos is space. The constantly compare him to ironman and give him full access to Ironmans inventory of inventions. They even rehash sceens from ironman to make the connection that spiderman = ironman now. This movie forgot who spiderman is and what makes him special. Having an actor just do funny things and say funny things doesnt make him spiderman or peter parker. The character is so much more than that. This movie just forgot that. Expand

Truly the worst entry in the Spider-Verse even lower then Garfield's reboot movies. Such a childish plot and Jake didn't have any presence in this movie. Can't belive im saying this but even Iron Man 3 pulled it's weight better then this POS. Must say im done with the c4p3sh1t for good now. Worst Villain i've ever seen on the big screen. Expand

ThereFirst of all, I thought there was no way of topping the whole Avengers Assemble fight scene from the end of Endgame but this movie comes pretty close to it. Jon Watts the director does some creative things to keep the audience invested. There is one fight scene that shows this creative style perfectly and trust me when I say it never gets boring. All of the shots are perfectly in frame so you know what’s going on and where to focus your attention. Just like in the first movie all of the actors give it their all. Okay, I will admit that this sentence is probably biased because Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays Mysterio, is my favourite actor of all time but honestly he’s amazing in this role. You can see him just giving it his all in this role from beginning to end. I can honestly admit that this is probably my favourite role I have ever seen him in. But the main showstopper performance was Tom Holland. Once again he plays Peter like an actual teenager who is going through grief. In every scene, you can see him questioning everything and not knowing what to do anymore because Tony isn’t there anymore to help him out. After seeing him in this role I can say he definitely the best Spider-Man. Everybody else was great too and I’m happy that certain people stayed in the background. This movie doesn’t overdose itself with humour and I’m happy with that because after Endgame I don’t want a lot of humour in this film. But at the same time, there is some humour that was acceptable. There are 2 great post-credits scenes that you need to see especially because one teases Spider-Man 3. In the end, Spider-Man: Far From Home is a great sequel that took what was great about the first movie and improved it. Expand

I found this really competed with Spider-Man: Homecoming for best live-action Spidey film. Far from Home is equivalent to an amusement park ride, just an onslaught of entertainment.

The story takes a different path. Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Tom Holland), whose past films have been intertwined with New York City, finds himself on a trip across Europe, resulting in some really scenic visuals. (There is one scene in the Netherlands that is just superb.) Also Peter Parker is on a higher tier of crime fighting, and it's a decent story arc as he has to deal with it.

There are a couple of moments where this movie did some surprising things. Dealing with the events from Infinity War and Endgame is done surprisingly well. Be sure to watch through the entire credits. Trust me.

The entire film, like the last one, is pretty funny. More time is spent focusing on Peter's classmates and other supporting cast and they all really shine. At times, the high school rom-com part of this movie can dominate the superhero part, and I really didn't mind. Also glad we got Happy Hogan, who continues to sort of be Spider-Man's handler, and I'm glad that Jon Favreau's still willing to play the role given his busy directing career.

As with most MCU movies, the effects and visuals really stand out. There are a couple fights that are fairly different from past Marvel films.

I'm both surprised and pleased that they managed to translate Mysterio's costume to film, dome helmet, eye-pyramid cape clasps, . It's just that superhero films have historically cared less about accurately maintaining villain outfits and between this and Aqua Man, it's nice to see a change.

I honestly feel this ties with Homecoming for best live-action film. This is a lighter film, and I honestly can't say this was most experimental or deepest in tone or message. But, this is a movie that just wants to be fun, and it really does that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a huge Marvel fan!!! Unfortunately, this movie was really bad. I was on the edge with Captain Marvel but this Spider-Man movie was just horrible. The only reason I am giving it a "2" is because it closes off some of the loose ends from "End Game" but other than that DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!" Here are a couple of things that really turned me off...

1) Was this a part 2 for Iron Man's death and they reference this way too many times through out the movie.
2) The entire scene of the picture in the washroom to the potential drone strike on the school bus was a waste of time and could be cut from the movie and given us this time back.
3) Mysterio could have been such a powerful villain and they made him a weak, petty man with no guts out for revenge. The whole story with fired employees from other Marvel movies teaming up with Mysterio was just a complete mess. What were they doing here and what a waste of a great opportunity for Jake. 4) The jokes got bad and repetitive and this took away from the actual movies magic and made the dialog boring and disconnecting
5) I understand Peter Parker is a young teen but by the end of the movie he should have grown some balls and shown some maturity after this adventure. Instead it closes off like a joke and with no Marvel Magic. This is a rental or stream when it comes out. I really wish I liked it but what a waste of time on so many levels. Hope these comments support the thoughts of other Marvel fans and I am a huge fan that just got very disappointed by this money grab.

I think this is a millennial version of the original spider man. I think Tobey MaguireI think this is a millennial version of the original spider man. As a child I remember Peter Parker as a introvert reserved person even bullied that found his way of expressing himself behind his Spider man Disguise. I think Tobey Maguire was the best one playing the role of the introvert but missed a lot on the comedian that spider man is. The second one that I dont remember the name was more balanced and played both but lacked something. And this one is a comedian in real life and as spiderman is clumsy. Since I feel this one has nothing to do with the original I dont like it so much, and changing the original characters in a Netflix style to promote diversity, feels like a way to overcompensating American racism as a foreign person its ridiculous feels even desperate. Anyways its my review my point of view, I understand that is missing a lot of things and that there are a lot of fans with more knowledge of Spider man. Its just my childhood talking. Expand

It had a lot of messed up scenes like when Mysterio revealed his plan and when spiderman gets hit by a train . There was a lot of unatural cringy MJ and Peter moments there was a lot of cringe moments. Some parts hit hard like when Happy hugged Peter and when Mysterio said maybe Iron man would still be around if it wasn't for Spiderman. The crazy part is in the mid credit scene which I wont spoil for you cause its insane. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Peter Parkers character from homecoming to far from home seems to be very inconsistent. In homecoming we saw Peter abandon his normal life to pursue a criminal who's just stealing some high tech weapons (the overall implications of that conflict in the marvel universe are very small.) In far from home Peter is presented with a world ending threat, massive and monstrous elementals that could consume the earth, but instead of confronting the issue and abandoning his class trip every chance he could like he would have in homecoming, he denies the call to action and only acts when Nick Fury changes the class trips course. Ah yes, we have yet another class trip plot line, and this one is not nearly as well executed as homecomings. Mysterios motivations and goals seem very... vague, to say the least. Exactly why he can't become an ACTUAL superhero, what with his illusions and the drones he seems to have mental control over is completely unknown to me. Attacking london and killing hundreds of thousands seems like a much more reasonable course of action. The fights in this movie are well executed, save for the fire elemental, which i found very confusing and even boring. Some have complained about "generic big CGI fights" and while the finale is big, and it does have CGI, i would not call it generic or poorly executed. The humor is good for the most part, but the amount of jokes that fall flat is somewhat concerning. I don't see any need for those jokes, and the movie is packed to the brim with so much humor that cutting out a few mild-nose-breathing level jokes wouldn't hurt the movie. Not a terrible movie, but i would only recommend watching it if you are a marvel fan that cares about the grand plot of the series, both spider-man and marvel as a whole, as far from home may effect the others. ButYeah, I'm seriously going to go there and give this a negative review, because Disney's android armies are here to bat for them. Now, normally the occasional plot hole or shoehorned story element that beggars belief does not bother me. But this movie is filled with absolutely bone-headed decisions by Parker (Holland does his best but at times seems confused - I blame constant rewrites as the writing is insufferable) and the plot? It's an amount of stupid that I just cannot handle. Just about the only highlights this film had to offer were the performance by Jake Gyllenhaal, and the fights, while heavily-reliant on CGI, are generally fun. I enjoyed the final fight scene and Zendaya's character is more interesting than in Homecoming. Even Ned is funny at times.

But that doesn't excuse poor writing that presents a whiny character that scarce resembles the selfless Peter Parker, who was motivated by PROTECTING THOSE CLOSEST TO HIM!!! Absolutely none of the choices Peter Parker makes in this film is for the right reason, or for the noblest intent. Minor SPOILER here... Mysterio's trick on Peter could only have worked if he knew what an incredible bonehead this kid is. Biggest and most unexplained plot failure right there.

And that scene where they tried to convince me that Peter understands the ramifications of Multiverse theory being real? **** all you did was copy out the textbook come the **** on. You obviously cannot write characters smarter than you are, so why didn't you bring in an expert to help you with that scene?

Oh, I'll tell you why. It's ****ing laziness.

My wife and Mom were just as exasperated as I was to see what Peter does in the bus. I walked out of the room right there because it was so poorly motivated, realized, or executed.

This tottering fool of a director, Jon Watts, could have more judiciously chopped this movie down. Trim the bad jokes, tuck the padding, and improve the character choices...

Here's another one for you. Why the ever-loving cuss, after seeing the projection, didn't Parker IMMEDIATELY call Nick Fury?!? That he simply doesn't want to be involved with him ENDANGERS EVERYONE and PUTS THE CITY OF LONDON AT RISK OF MASS CASUALTIES. IT BEGGARS CUSSING BELIEF.

All you needed to fix this was one line of dialogue.

Spider-Man: *receives a call from Nick Fury, answers*
Nick Fury: Line's compromised - I'll call you back.

They wouldn't even need to drag Samuel L. Jackson out of bed. Have the guy send a voice recording from his phone. No one can tell the cussing difference anyway, because the sound mix is so sloppy! Also worst Giacchino score!! Come on dude! Fallin' asleep at the wheel here! Love, a fan.

IN SHORT CUSS THIS MOVIE THE END

The comic book readers will recognize, in a couple of scenes of the cornered hero, those claustrophobic pictures on every black background in which the Spiderman gets trapped in the vertigo of Mysterio, suffocated by images that bring to the surface traumas of the unconscious. It is the expected fan service, and that knows how to take good advantage of the character of cartoons situations and characterization of characters. What's more, the good visual translation of comic book aesthetics is an undeniable legacy of Sam Raimi that at no time, even in the films starring Andrew Garfield, was scrapped within the franchise. Worst of all is the mid credits scene because while it brings a beloved character we've all been asking for into the MCU it ruins it by having a big plot twist that could very well kill this spider-man movie series all for them to redo the "WHAT THE FU-" joke from the first movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I dont understand how this movie is getting such good reviews. The people who like this must have no idea about who Spiderman is.
Marvel/Sony has butchered this version of Spiderman and made him into something he is not. Who greenlit this script? Hey movie guys, heads up, HE IS NOT IRON MAN!! Spiderman is beloved because he is relate-able. He is an average guy, who balances being a superhero with daily pressure (going to school, working, taking care of his Aunt and trying to have a social life) Oh yeah, and hes brilliant too. And since he lost his Uncle due to his own negligence he always, always goes out of his way to help everyone.
What has sony/marvel done to him??
1. Well i guess Uncle Ben never existed in this version because Peter does everything in his power to avoid responsibility in this movie. The only time he acts is when his personal friends are in a direct line of danger. 2. He has access to all Starks tech. Everything. EVERYTHING. Peter is even designing his own suits one a hologram screen aboard a Stark jet. Ummmm, thats not the Peter I know. Where is his resourcefulness?
3. Both stand alone movies have done a poor job of showing how smart he is. In far from home he has one line that shows his intelligence. But thats it. His brain is possibly his biggest asset, and its null and void in this series.
4. There were almost none of the quips Spiderman makes when in battle in Far From Home.

Now to this movie and all its problems
Wasnt Michelle/MJs dad the Vulture? No mention of that here.

They turned the death of Ironman, cap, widow, vision into a 30 second comedy montage. These were beloved heros that died. Its kind of a tasteless joke, honestly.

How many times did I need to see Peter in getting undressed. It was actually kind of creepy.

All the mindless junior high level jokes in this movie are unreal. It was barely above fart level humor. Even when he tries out his new costume, he tugs at his crotch. There was not one serious moment in this movie. Very similar to The Last Jedi.

Mysterio's reason for turning villain? He got fired and his invention was given a dumb acronym. How lame is that. Then his whole plan was a completely unreal level of impossible, even for a comic book movie.

To much trying to make old people look hip and uncool. The whole "ghosting" thing was cringe worthy. And while we are on it why all the focus on Happy and the two bumbling teachers?

Love how his classmates kept stumbling into danger. Over and over again. This is poor writing. Sitcom level stuff here.

This goes back to Homecoming, but why the need to change beloved characters into something they are not? MJ, Flash, Ned, Betty, Aunt May, Im looking at yall. I know they are trying to do the all inclusive PC thing but its suuuuccch overkill. Just call them by different names if the dont even resemble their inspiration at all. By the way, that bus driver better have not been Kraven.

Why on Gods green earth did they feel the need to reveal his idenity????? Again, hes not Iron Man! Where do you even take this story now? So now he can never have a job at the Bugle and all his friends/family have a target on their back. Why?

There are soooo many other things wrong with this movie but i just cant. The few things i do like are Tom Holland as Peter, Jake Gyllenhal was a good Mysterio and Im glad JK SImmons is back as JJJ. The rest of this movie was trash and ruined what spiderman is supposed to be.
Good job Marvel. You finally got your main hero back in your universe and you destroyed everything we loved about him over the course of two full length movies. What a way to end Phase 3. Sad and disapointing

Childish, bad jokes, and annoying. Every time you think the plot is about to improve, it dumps a cringe-worthy moment of anti-climax into your face.
Worst of all, the logic becomes absolutely broken. Things stop making sense completely! It's like someone has managed to take the world of the avengers, which somehow made a science-fiction kind of sense... And turned it into a joke. An absolutely ridiculous Development makes the whole movie seem like a bad Batman spinoff! Except it's the wrong villain, and nothing makes sense... Mind=blown, in the worst way possible.
So bad, I had to stop watching to adjust to the level of ridiculousness. OMG spare yourself the trouble.
I have been re-watching iron Man 1 and 2 and they are like a 50 billion times better.
Any avengers movie is better. This is just horrible really just horrible.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is mediocre-at-best. The villain is your typical "Tony Stark shunned me so I want to prove my worth". It is not interesting anymore. Most jokes fell flat. It was just so poorly timed that it ruins the mood instead of being funny. It also consists of "WTF" moments that makes no sense or makes the prior scene stupid. One example is Mysterio revealing Spider-man is Peter. When did he record that? It was poorly done. The part where Mysterio filled Spider-man with illusions was too "on-point" to be believable. The movie had few good scenes but most of it is mediocre. 20/100. Expand

After the end credits rolled I turned to Allen and apologized for picking this over "Wild Rose" to see as our Friday movie! Then I added, "No more Marvel movies except Antman which at least are funny."

The man problem with this type of movie
After the end credits rolled I turned to Allen and apologized for picking this over "Wild Rose" to see as our Friday movie! Then I added, "No more Marvel movies except Antman which at least are funny."

The man problem with this type of movie is that they may have an effective special effect that is attention-getting and then they repeat it 3-4 times and you have a 'so what?' reaction. They also increase whatever they have in the scene, for instance instead of, say planes, in a scene now they have one hundred!

Another problem is the length such as this one that runs 2 hours and 15 minutes due to those over-extended special effects scenes and in this one a teenage 'love' story that could have been eliminated and cut the movie easily to under 2 hours.

Tom Holland as a teenage Spider-Man is 'cute' as he should be. He recently said he would have no problem if it turns out that Spider-Man is Gay which would at least make his character more interesting. Marisa Tomei as his aunt looks super but is wasted in what amounts to a cameo and Samuel L. Jackson hopefully gets a super paycheck for a phoned in performance while Jake Gyllenhaal brings a load of good looks and charisma to the poorly written role of Mysterio. Zendaya as Holland's love interest is interesting, while Angourie Rice and Jacob Batalon are delightful as Spider-Man's, AKA Peter Parker, classmates with Batalon bringing an extra dollop of humor to the screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

In a picture such as this which is full of special effects it is hard to say whether the director, Jon Watts, or the visual effects supervisor, Janek Sirrs, should get the credit for the look and feel of the film.

"Spider-Man: Far From Home" is/was not for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MCU Spider-man is an insult to the character

He's a watered down shell of what Spider-man is

Everything is about Tony STark in the MCU for Peter. Even the final act is about Iron Man's stupid glasses

It's a joke. I called Beck not being from an alternate Earth months ago and even said it'd probably turn out he was fired by Tony once and that's why he was doing what he was doing. That's just how predictable the MCU has gotten.

It's not a good movie. At all. Holland is annoying as Peter and Spider-man. The Skrull reveal was an absolute joke. They turned what should have been a terrifying moment into a joke. Since Captain Marvel made the Skrulls the good guys, revealing Fury and Hill were Skrulls the whole movie was played off as laughs which one person actually found funny in the theater

The cringe humor was hard to sit through, and seeing such low-brow humor as nutshots in a 2019 film just shows how little Marvel Studios think of their audience. And seeing people run to see these movies dozens, in some cases 100 times shows they have their audience pegged correctly.

Spider-man: Far From Source Material
Spider-man: Far From Good

Better and more accurate titles for the movie

Avengers: Endgame was a plot hole filled mess that broke it's own continuity and ignored it's own rules for time travel, but it felt like a fitting end for the franchise. And with Hollands recent "Peter should be gay because I hate seeing straight white guys in these movies" and with the low quality of this film, the MCU really should have ended with Endgame

My question to Tom Holland is why did he accept the role if he felt white people had to much screen time in the MCU? DOes he see something else in the mirror besides a white guy?

Avoid this movie

The Clone Saga from the 90s does Spider-man more justice than this turd.

The story felt lacking, redundant, and uninspired, character development was rather weak (especially with Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio unfortunately), and just a pretty underwhelming feeling was all that was left for me when all was said and done. Even a couple interesting post-credit scenes weren't quite enough to save most of it for me. The biggest plus I can give this is for Tom Holland (who's still far and out my fav Spider-Man thus far), but other than that, I mostly found this to be a forgettable and not so worthy follow-up to 'Endgame', and honestly one of the weaker MCU movies in recent memory for me. MCU's blueprint is shockingly durable or maybe it is the malleability of the writers, either way the summer has still some legs.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Watts is buoyed by the politically and socially fit theme in the film that we have been whipped religiously nowadays. On that very note, Marvel has always stayed ahead of its game. Evidently, Kevin Feige reports that The Winter Soldier and Civil War had political themes that incidentally matched the circumstances. And the director Jon Watts, unlike the previous installment, speaks expressly on such heavy matters since this character is told to be the front page news in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, from now on. Carrying that heavy burden on the shoulders is not just this chapter but the lead Peter Parker played by Tom Holland where both the character and actor is going through the same phenomenon.

But saying that the script is trippy would be understating it. By now, we can all agree that this franchise has grown more that just movies. But even for the standards of a comic book story, this is one hefty meal to swallow. And to add more spice, the flips and turns are so bizarre that you are taken aback as a viewer questioning everything. Ergo, to lighten the mood, the Marvel knocks on its most controversial subject, i.e. humor.

This bland of good and bad and familiar and forced laughs never fits in on this trip, despite the fact that it follows a teenage love story. The film suffers only when it tries to be both. Light footed and moody when grounding the characters through small talks and supporting character and, escalating these verbal sparring into bigger aspects like mourning, fake news, responsibility and the most tedious aspect of a job; the routine. This transaction is not completely convincing. A laziness or maybe commercially restricted deadline can be pointed out at such moments.

The film is visually stunning. Fortunately, it is a part of narration. So sit back and enjoy the thrilling ride in big IMax screen. Speaking of action, the choreography isn't as spectacular as Marvel cannon usually brings out. But it isn't their fault. The storytelling doesn't seek for big antics. Hence, you can see them work hard on details like the way Holland hits on a wall and then falls up front after trying to run and match the momentum. These tiny notions aren't awe gasping but soothing to watch, thinking that the Universe is still in safe hands.

Holland is a good performer, there is no doubt about that, but a performer needs a good partner which he is in short here. Jake Gyllenhaal as Quentin Beck actually has quite a wide range that isn't even touched in here. His character has the caliber to carry the film on his shoulder, but the surface is barely scratched and as a result, Holland stands alone in the screen. Far From Home stays quite close to the Universe. That is its biggest win, derived equation looks upgraded and the funky hip and happening music in sync with the MCU's loud and crowd pleasing soundtrack.

Ugh. I will say that Holland and Zendaya are both amazing - their young chemistry is leagues better than anything done by Tobey or Andrew Garfield. And I'll say that the use of three songs - "Back in Black", "Vacation" (Go Go's), and "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" are perfectly placed. I also want to say that the Nick Fury sequences are fun, and the Aunt May stuff is awesome. So in the future, make MOST of the movie about human beings, and much less about the big, boring CGI fights. Expand

Better I go
This was a complicated review for me to make not because this movie was complex or anything but simply that I expected more from a Spider-man movie matter of fact a Marvel more. At this stage an okay Spider-Man isn't good enough.

Better I go on a mini rant I can say that Tom Holland does a good job as Spider-Man, the dude is just good at the role. He was the best part of the movie, he nailed the funny parts, awkward teen moments and emotional moments(i'll get into that more later). Another intriguing performance came from Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, I have always wanted Jake in a Superhero movie and he gives a good performance although there is some corny dialouge he says but that was because of the script not THE MAN - Jake Gyllenhaal. His character had more interesting things to do but thats sort of spoiler territory also the scenes between him and Tom were good. The other cast members were either okay or forgettable. Jon Fanvrou as Happy was fine though he had one amazing scene with Tom Holland. Marisa Tomie was meh she doesn't give a bad performance or anything but so far she's been one forgattble Aunt May in the MCU. Zendeya,Jacob as Ned, Samuel L Jackson were fine. The other high school kids were completely forgettable.

The romance arc between Spider-man and MJ was cute(I guess) it was nothing special but they did the whole teen romance thing well enough. The action was actually good and better than Homecoming, there were some cool mermorable action sequences in Far from Home and without spoiling anything, what they did with Spider-sense was dope. One major shoutout to Mysterio though. Far from Home had one great, trippy scene it was awesome and weirder than anything in Doctor Strange, Marvel really went to town with the whole Magician thing. The visual effects were very good and my favorite scene of the movie involved an emotional and heart warming scene between Spider-Man and Happy and I wish the movie could have had morer scenes like this. There was also one tiny thought provoking scene near the end that I didn't expect from the movie. Oh and the credit scenes were fire.

Now there villain in this movie was corny and predictable, there's no other way to put it I say the twist from a mile away. I mean the reasoning behind the villain's story was weak but I have to say the consequences from the villain's actions were jaw-dropping (mid-credit scene has the juice) but other than that the villain was average the only saving graces were the consequences of ther villain and a couple of interiguing scenes between him/her and Spider-Man and how Spider-Man was challenged by him/her.

Now for all the stuff that bothered me. First off the humor, I am getting tired of Marvel humor man I mean there were some funny scenes in Far from Home but for the most part the humor attempts from Marvel was exhausting and forced . I mean not every scene has to be funny Marvel it felt there were no serious stages at times. The first half of the movie also took kinda long to get going as well and kinda dragged on. Also at times this movie was way too focused on Iron Man I mean I get that Tony Stark is a mentor to Peter Parker but it sometimes distracted from Spider-Man's story. The movie also couldn't focus on its mainline story there was the whole IronMan x Spider-Man storyline, then Peter struggling with being a regular teenager and a Superhero then the whole comedy vacation stuff x Teen Romance. I get that a movie can haver multiple layers and arcs and still be an amazing movie but Far from Home could balance the storylines they presented to us. I mean yes I enjoyed Peter's struggle with wanting a normal life and being Spider-Man and how he deals with the IronMan situation while also being treated with some highschool comedy but I neverr felt that Far From Home fully committed to any of those storylines leaving us with an okay story for a Spider-Man movier and again at this stage an OKAY Spider-Man, Marvel movie isn't good enough

I almost disliked Far From Home but when I looked back this movie was just fine, it had good performances from Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal, some dope action sequences and amazing visual effects, some funny scenes and some interesting story elements and the emotional scene between Peter and Happymakes Far From Home a fun porncorn flick but the overall subpar story, average villain, cringey and corny scenes, unfunny and forced humor and some forgettable cast members brings the movie down a lot leaving us with an above average Spider-Man movie.

Mysterio, why his story arc was handled the way it was, is a mystery (pun intended). What's with the flippancy with Peter Parker's secret identity.Aren't such things closely guarded? It is no longer news that the any-thing-for profit Tony Stark, before he became Iron Man, made lots of enemies who would want to get even with him or in this movie, Parker, his protege. However, making it, again (check elsewhere in the MCU), the basis for the movie's villainy is a bit tired. The Producers should do better with the next installment, which it is clear there would be. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spider-Man: Far from Home makes me regain confidence in this Spider-Man, which left me with a bad taste in my mouth with the regular Homecoming.

Far from Home hits many things, such as special effects and action, the villain, an interesting narrative, post-credits, a Spider-Man that has yet to mature...
In short, a good movie.

But it also has errors:
- Tertiary characters, like teachers or some students, are detestable, with a disgusting and tired mood.
- The relationship of MJ and Peter works decently (even without knowing the reason why they both like each other), but it lacks something to work just as well as the relationship between Peter and Gwen in "The Amazing Spider-Man".
- The dissonance between Spider-Man should only be Spider-Man or a new Iron-Man.

Great summer movie with light humor, marvelous scenes with a mixed reality (OMG, it's very impressive like Doctor Strange) and picture with typical teenage problems. The scenes after ending is shocked for me

Spider-Man: Far From Home smooths the mood properly just right after Avengers: Endgame, nevertheless, also tackles the quality that the MCU achieved with Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War. Far From Home win some and lose some. All the characters are trivial and unfocused, which reveals the failures of the story to show its purpose. Misterio, far from being enigmatic, it's confusing both by his lack of finality and by his own mission; and Peter Parker, even after what he have faced as a superhero, seems to not know his priorities, and when he finally makes up his mind, explaining himself it's a forced act that ruins any dramatic value. It's not Tom Holland's or Jake Gyllenhaal's fault, who act accurately, but it’s the scrip's fault, which doesn't decide if to save dialogs or give more romance, comedy or action. Also, the irony in the background stories adds a dumb and annoying comedy totally unnecessary that takes away all seriousness and importance to the main plot. Outside from the bother that those failings brought in me, I will admit that the movie also surprised me. I don't consider the special effects to be good, but they gave life to a very interesting visual concept to explore. The matter about optical illusions and the transformation of space thanks to the application of virtual reality left me wanting more similar ideas. The action sequences are polarized and while the ones of Misterio feel reused, creativity is given to Spider-Man and he's able to shine with kind of clever choreographies. There are, also, impact points, that I won't reveal because of spoilers, that achieve to hang the film in a down to earth level of tension that replace the fantasy factor for shocks so realistic that can give the chills. Peter Parker has a lot to learn and that might not promise prosperity for the hero if he doesn't stop learning and star knowing.

Spider-Man: Far From Home beautifully deals with how the world is feeling post-endgame. Tom Holland again is the best spidey and Jake Gyllenhaal nails it as Mysterio.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "Spider-Man: Far from Home" is, admittedly, an enjoyable ride in hindsight, but does it have any depth to it?

In my opinion, no. The latest Spider-Man movie is another victim of the MCU formula that has plagued movies like "Ant-Man and the Wasp". Both seem enjoyable at first, but when you start to break the movie down, it becomes apparent how little-to-no effort was put into making it tense and dramatic. The first half of the movie is surprisingly boring and lacking in stakes or conflict and it only gets more interesting during the second half, where Jake Gyllenhaal's performance as the villain Mysterio begins to shine. Indeed, I might say he was the best part of the movie. Gyllenhaal's energetic peformance elevated the character to a more solid level and if it weren't for him, the dynamic of this villain would fall flat right off the bat.

I enjoyed the aspect of Mysterio being a special effects expert (just like in the comics), but his motivations being so contrived and forced didn't do much for me. Seriously, he hates Tony Stark? Haven't we seen that in the last movie with Vulture? Gyllenhaal is a delight to watch, but he can only do much with the material he's given and unfortunately, the material sucks.

I always pay attention to the overall theme of the movie. What is it about this movie that's going to stand out? What is the emotional journey for our hero? Well, I didn't feel emotionally connected to the character of Peter Parker throughout this entire film. Not one bit. You'd think Spider-Man, my favorite fictional super-hero, would do something for me. Sadly, it didn't. Right out of the gate, "Spider-Man: Far from Home" introduces a contrived internal conflict that made me roll my eyes. The conflict of Peter trying to step up to be "the next Iron Man". All the while, he's trying to build a relationship with "MJ" (finely performed by Zendaya). None of this clicks with me. It doesn't even make sense! In the last movie, he didn't give two flying f*cks about her and all of a sudden he cares about her? Where did this come from? And why did the trailer give away the plot point of MJ finding out/guessing Peter's identity?

Not only that, but the soundtrack was so unspecial. Parts of it felt borrowed from the last movie. Secondary characters were only used for comedic relief - although Ned continues to be the best thing about this franchise. The action sequences were fairly entertaining, but the special effects were a little overdone in places, particularly during the Mysterio's illusion moments. Another thing that I will never be able to comprehend is why Peter, the smartest person in the room (according to Quentin Beck), decided to hand over high-tech glasses - provided to him by his beloved mentor - to a dude who only talked to him twice. That was a whole new level of stupid.

It's a shame that this new Spider-Man movie wasn't good enough to win a positive rating for me. All of this because it's trying to be light and hilarious, forgetting key aspects that make a movie truly outstanding.

At least J.K. Simmons is back as J. Jonah Jameson!

5/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spider-Man: Far From Home is definetely one of the best movies in the MCU. Characters were handled properly, their arcs were nice, acting and chemistry of actors were amazing... This movie was better than Homecoming in every single way. Actions scenes were fantastic, Mysterio exceeded my expectations and turned out to be one of the best thing about the movie. Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Holland's portrayal of their respective characters should be an example to upcoming superhero movies. Narrative of the movie was done well although the first half of the movie felt a little bit underwhelming, second half made everything better and carried the events on a much higher place. The only thing I didn't like about this movie was how Nick Fury and his collegues were dealt with. However, the reason behind it was reasonable since Fury and Hill had been replaced by Talos and his wife Soren (Skrulls). Also I don't really get why Marvel bothered to put a Muslim student in Peter's class with no dialogues and effect on the story. In a universe full of aliens, Norse Gods, Celestial beings etc. it is just stupid feels forced (same goes for any religious figures). At last, I couldn't be any happier for Marvel recasting J.K. Simmons as Jameson. His appearance was unexpected and made me joyful. The cliffhanger around mid-credits were unexpected and left many people shocked. One thing I am absolutely sure about is they have to give us a new Spidey movie as soon as possible and I am looking forward to it. Expand

Its not really "Boring", but it feels as if it was written by different writers.
Action sequences no longer feel like a story/event is unfolding, but more about how we can cram as many unique camera angles/posses in as possible.
Once the fight starts, you already know everything that will happen, the only "unique" situations, are the ones that dont use combat/action. (But do lack good dialogue to compliment them.) I did zone out during the action sequences, and the "unique" sequences, since they were no where near as good as the prior marvel movies. (Neither in spectacle, nor in story progression.)
The actual "plot" feels too forced, making peter change his "go get em" personality too much, for the sake of plot. (plus there's not really much going on with the plot, except the end credit scene, which is the only part worth seeing.)
This is no where near as bad as Thor2 or Ironman2, so if you like the characters, its still ok to watch.

But be warned, even the comedy of this movie is different.
In the prior movie(s) the comedy is a byproduct.
Meaning, things would be set up for the progression of the plot. Comedy acted more as a means to make fun of the awkwardness of situations the plot required.
If somebody has to do something weird, they make fun of it.
But in this movie, they completely set up the plot solely to make jokes. The set up has nothing to do with the plot, nor its progression, and nor are they makeing fun of situations. instead, the plot changes direction, so they could squeeze in jokes that just arent as good as prior ones. It ends up coming off too corny.
Example: Two people start dating for no real reason, other than for a gag. They also stop dating, also for a gag.
It had no reason to be there, it doesnt help the plot, and it wasnt funny. (It was predictable due to how jokes run.)
Another example is Flash. In the 1st movie his Dads car gets taken, and wrecked, yet he loves spiderman in this movie, all for a joke. In the prior, spiderman called flash by his name, in this one, flash is surprised spiderman knows who he is, all for a joke.

This isnt to say all jokes in the movie are bad, there's some funny ones. But too many of the jokes arent funny, and are the "reverse" method of "It doesnt take itself too seriously". Instead, it jumps from taking itself too seriously, to not taking itself seriously enough, and hardly meets in the middle.
Hopefully Sony learns from this, if they ever plan to use Tom Holland again. (Probably not, they look at money signs, and see the billion dollar profits, and dont see connections like "people came to see this, to see where the MCU will go after endgame. And some people grew to like spiderman in the prior movies, so they hoped for an equally good story here."

This has a lot of similar vibes as Venom did, but w/o the initial flare of "new/shiney" that introducing a new main character has.

Such a waste of time watching a film that's not even about Spider-Man. What happened to the actual good stories about Spider-Man? Just simply ignore it? The casting is very wrong from the comics, more of the opposite or separate from it. Terrible green screen, probably one of the worst CGI's next to Black Panther. Jon Watts did a terrible job with Spider-Man, how to handle his world & the character itself. Notice the difference with Homecoming, making Spider-Man to much like Iron Man. "Being the next Iron man", wow. That's not how Spider-Man works, & terrible job from Holland, can't barley bring the character to life. Mysterio was good, but too much like Vulture as the same storyline, how lazy then making a new story for him. I feel bad for Jake, he did his best, what a terrible movie. Spider-Man 2 proves it's better when it comes to storylines & characters around Peter Parker. Far From Home makes The Amazing Spider-Man movies look like a masterpiece, what a shame to see the MCU lose it's grip on how to do Spider-Man justice, they don't try. The jokes were lame, cringing, & very boring. The worst Spider-Man film, reason it's a 4 because of Mysterio. Expand

The movie was honestly lazily written and had a ton of plot holes and problems. I like Tom Holland he is a great actor and he does a very good job in the role but he really needs better writing on his character as he is not a very 3-dimensional character like Tobey Maguire's incarnation was. Also again Marvel with its forced humor is here and it was one of the worst in this movie. Mysterio was a cool villain and Jake Gyllenhaal did a great job and the final battle I thought was pretty awesome and creative. The movie is also fun to watch and that post-credit scene is easily one of the best of the MCU. But, the movie really just feels like a pastime and popcorn entertainer as it doesn't feel like a big event which is a shame as it is Spider-Man and he is one of the greatest superheroes of all time. Turns out audiences are not the only ones who need to recover from the furore of recent events in the MCU (not least Thanos’ genocidal antics now christened in-universe as ‘The Blip’). Spider-Man: Far From Home sees our titular hero take a well-earned rest as he embarks on a school trip to Europe with his friends. He doesn’t even pack his trusty suit… it’s time for a bit of normality. Of course, events don’t quite turn out as expected and Peter is dragged swiftly back into the world-saving game, this time to battle the multidimensional Elementals and other hidden and perhaps even more dangerous enemies. Much of the creative talent behind 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming return for this spirited and entertaining sequel that ends up being satisfying both for its character and in its place in the ever-widening MCU. Tom Holland dons the webbed suit yet again as Spider-Man; if he wasn’t brilliant before, this time he seems even more comfortable in the role, delivering a charming, vulnerable and seemingly effortless performance. Director Jon Watts also returns proving himself to be a sure hand, his clear vision for the film shining through with distinctive style. There’s a notable new addition however in writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers who deliver a smart script, often hilarious and always genuine. Far From Home is certainly a Spider-Man film on a sheer scale we haven’t seen before; largely, it’s handled quite well, remaining mostly grounded amid globe-trotting and narrative twists and turns. Occasionally, we lose some of the cohesion and it feels a little overstuffed and expository, but honestly this film is so fast-paced and energetic you can’t help but enjoy the ride even when everything doesn’t quite jell. Equally, there are far too many brilliant aspects to take in; take for instance the seamless action sequences which are neatly interchanged with intimate and believable drama. The temptation with movies of this kind is to fall into mindless action and forget the substance but Far From Home keeps its characters purely at its heart. There’s nice references, for example, to Endgame that really inform Peter’s arc in the film and provide the film’s understated yet decidedly emotional impact. Whilst the overall package might not be as tight as its predecessor, Far From Home makes appropriate attempts to hone in on some characters and narrative vignettes in more detail (for example, Zendaya’s MJ is far more fleshed out here and Peter’s own sense of identity and responsibility is thoughtfully explored). Again, it’s not all plain sailing; Jake Gyllenhaal’s Syndrome-esque Mysterio is very hit and miss, his great moments bogged down by some of the lesser writing and obligatorily clunky exposition.
In the end, however, Spider-Man: Far From Home is an impressive film, more than making up for its faults. It’s fiercely entertaining, packed full of humour, action thrills and plenty of unexpected twists to keep the audience gripped (speaking of which, stay for two critical post-credits scenes). Equally, there’s some fantastic visual effects work that sometimes even echoes of the illusionary sequences in Doctor Strange. Jon Watts and his team deliver a satisfying sequel here full of interesting choices yet still staying true to the style established in Homecoming. Ultimately, regardless of its position in the Marvel canon, Far From Home has all the elements of the perfect summer popcorn movie; action thrills, big laughs, a likeable cast and brilliant visuals really allow it to recover from momentary snags and reach the finish line in splendour. Expertly crafted and with an unabashed sense of fun, Spider-Man: Far From Home is an assured Marvel instalment that hungers for a rewatch.
