There were some enjoyable parts and some funny parts, but I literally almost fell asleep during parts of it. The whole Iron Man / Peter Parker thing really diminishes the Spiderman character. The acting was pretty good, but they can only do so much with the material they were given. No spoilers, but the post credit scenes were a real let down and made me walk out of the movie liking it even less. Expand

Good movie as MCU part (great visualls)

None of them are any good, but the other Spider-Man films at least manage to each stand out in a meaningful way. Spider-Man: Far from Home only stands out because it takes place somewhere outside New York; compare that to the other versionsNone of them are any good, but the other Spider-Man films at least manage to each stand out in a meaningful way. Spider-Man: Far from Home only stands out because it takes place somewhere outside New York; compare that to the other versions with Maguire and Garfield, especially the brave stylistic Into the Spider-Verse, which beautifully summarizes the comic hero’s spirit. This latest addition to the reboot madness is just hopping across major cities at a pace that moves too quickly yet too slowly.

Considering this came out straight off the coattails of Endgame, one may think, “How could Disney ever top that?” Here’s the answer: They can’t. But they should have done better than this, literally everything seen here happened way better before, even from Marvel Studios. You’ve got your red-caped superhuman generating matter-bending green glows. You’ve got your Nick Fury. You’ve got your extremely awkward humor. You’ve got your mass destruction in the middle of a city without authorities to escort people to safety. You’ve got your new 100% CGI shiny super suit. You’ve got your other new black super suit made almost alien-esque against fireworks. You’ve got your CGI-heavy climax. It’s no secret right now that director Jon Watts got his priorities wrong. Although his wonderfully trippy hallucination starring Tony as a zombie balances against the visual highlight of a Czech night party, it also breaks the needed tone of bittersweet grief.

The multiple major cities shown across Europe throughout the feature get breezed past as Peter Parker and his class vacations in each one. Think back to how Crazy Rich Asians tempted the urge to visit Singapore with its irresistible montages of crustaceous street food. The only touristy thing Far from Home does to breathe life into Europe fittingly looks put together by a high school student project: a montage of the class taking pictures of themselves (and the teacher before dropping his very expensive camera into the harbor).

While on this trip, Peter must go against a giant fire monster at night and has no fears or problems doing so. Yeah, he fought Thanos and all, but had grownups around then, he’s pretty much going solo here. Although there’s Nick Fury, he’s just there to be mocked as his intense talks with Peter keep getting interrupted for laughs. There’s also the new guy, Mysterio, who acts like a potential mentor to Peter by treating him to a lemonade… out of a bendy straw. Mysterio is a badly written character only motivated for anything by a craving to fill Iron Man’s legacy, and resorts to achieving that via overpowered technology that might as well star in Barry Sonnenfeld’s Wild Wild West.

Mysterio’s not nearly as bad as Mary Jane though; her supposedly sweet scenes with Peter become too discomforting to watch seriously. Between every version of the wallcrawling web-slinger, Peter’s love interests never found a foothold, and this is no exception. Like seriously, why are these two losers attracted to the other? More time delves into Peter’s new suit customization than into why he likes Mary Jane!

Then there’s Ned, while Jacob Batalon still gives a pretty good performance, his character just stands around solely for laughs, due to having less material to work off of than in Homecoming. He does get a girlfriend after knowing her for only a few hours, but that’s the only memorable thing done by him.

Although, the melodic aura of societal grief over Tony Stark remains present; acknowledging the candlelit street memorials, these twenty-three movies of the MCU now feel like one complete unit. Plus, an “in memoriam” section attempts to mourn the latest deaths, informing of something after the Blip (as they call it) happened: It had been five years since Infinity War’s events, which means those who came back were still the same age as five years ago. For example, if there were two high school freshmen, one got blipped and the other did not, five years later, the resurrected one would still be a high school freshman and the survivor would be a college sophomore. Pretty clever!

Then again, less time is spent on grieving and more time is spent on the not-so-successful humor of students wearing glowsticks and groaning over a sudden plan to attend a nearly empty opera house. Marvel really needs to stop hating fine art for once and stay focused on the story!

Okay, let’s face it: Everything Marvel does is at the end of the day pointless. So of course, that means Spider-Man: Far from Home lands among the year’s most pointless features. Peter Parker deserves much better than being demeaned over and over by Tony; thank goodness he will demean no one else again. Thank goodness too no one will any longer watch Steve’s mere stupidity. Now… oh dear… Thor is still around… Thanos, please save us!

A film about today's difficulty in distinguishing the illusion from the real but that is not credible, does not convince and does not captivate either as a teen romance or as a superhero action. Between jokes that don't amuse and a plot that is the shameless mold of every previous chapter of the MCU, at this point the only true villain is boredom.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I won’t write that studio doesn’t understand Spider-Man, others probably already wrote it. No Uncle Ben who is sufficient for the story, no responsibility, blahblahah, Stark as mentor is a questionable decision, yadda-yadda-yadda, MJ is.... Let’s move on from basic stuff to another basic stuff. This is the worst Spider-Man movie ever, even worse than ASM2. The plot makes no sense. Like the authors of it had a goal to write a typical destruction of the city scene at the end and they did. Mysterio’s plan doesn’t make any sense(he explained all his motivation and methods in the middle of the movie — that’s stupid). What’s his final goal? Doesn’t he understand that his lies will be discovered? Its extremely naive. The SHIELD is another big issue here. Nick Fury and his organization are incompetent to the core. They’ve tried to explain it mentioning him being absent for 5 years, but it still doesn’t explain his lack of basic logic. And Studio knew that that’s absurd, so they’ve explained it with skrulls. Even dumber. Now I think that Kree Empire wants to eliminate skrulls because skrulls are fantastical imbeciles and Kree people praise the Supreme Intelligence. Or something like that. And also jokes. They’re disaster. They are so bad I spent half of the movie facepalming. Jokes about how characters are lame and fail at something and other jokes break the suspension of disbelief. You know why Kick-Ass is cool? Because some cool stuff is cool and not lame, there is a balance: people die and die in awesome ways, Kick-Ass is **** but Hit-Girl isn’t. Imagine a character fighting a villain, a very dynamic scene, but in the middle of it a hero becomes a giant butt and farts. That is a rough example, but my point is that a movie shouldn’t make a joke about everything. Remember fat Thor in the Endgame? That was lame not because he was fat and played video games, but because it was intended to be a pun. It’s annoying. This movie is much more of a teen comedy and it’s not satisfying. Some people say that superheroes are essentially comedic, because the idea of a man in a colorful suit is dumb? Well, I’m pretty sure people love superhero comicbooks not because of their humor. Also EDITH as a plot device is also weird lore-wise and story-wise. Why did Stark created it? Nick Fury and CIA probably would have wanted it to themselves and not to some angsty teenager. Is it even moral to create or use such thing? EDITH is a giant wheel-chair for the plot(for the epic city destruction battle) and another pun creating machine. The only good thing about the movie is the first battle with Mysterio: it’s trippy and thrilling. wise and story-wise. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a huge Marvel fan!!! Unfortunately, this movie was really bad. I was on the edge with Captain Marvel but this Spider-Man movie was just horrible. The only reason I am giving it a "2" is because it closes off some of the loose ends from "End Game" but other than that DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!" Here are a couple of things that really turned me off...

1) Was this a part 2 for Iron Man's death and they reference this way too many times through out the movie.
2) The entire scene of the picture in the washroom to the potential drone strike on the school bus was a waste of time and could be cut from the movie and given us this time back.
3) Mysterio could have been such a powerful villain and they made him a weak, petty man with no guts out for revenge. The whole story with fired employees from other Marvel movies teaming up with Mysterio was just a complete mess. What were they doing here and what a waste of a great opportunity for Jake. 4) The jokes got bad and repetitive and this took away from the actual movies magic and made the dialog boring and disconnecting
5) I understand Peter Parker is a young teen but by the end of the movie he should have grown some balls and shown some maturity after this adventure. Instead it closes off like a joke and with no Marvel Magic. This is a rental or stream when it comes out. I really wish I liked it but what a waste of time on so many levels. Hope these comments support the thoughts of other Marvel fans and I am a huge fan that just got very disappointed by this money grab.

I think this is a millennial version of the original spider man. As a child I remember Peter Parker as a introvert reserved person even bullied that found his way of expressing himself behind his Spider man Disguise. I think Tobey MaguireI think this is a millennial version of the original spider man. As a child I remember Peter Parker as a introvert reserved person even bullied that found his way of expressing himself behind his Spider man Disguise. I think Tobey Maguire was the best one playing the role of the introvert but missed a lot on the comedian that spider man is. The second one that I dont remember the name was more balanced and played both but lacked something. And this one is a comedian in real life and as spiderman is clumsy. Since I feel this one has nothing to do with the original I dont like it so much, and changing the original characters in a Netflix style to promote diversity, feels like a way to overcompensating American racism as a foreign person its ridiculous feels even desperate. Anyways its my review my point of view, I understand that is missing a lot of things and that there are a lot of fans with more knowledge of Spider man. Its just my childhood talking. Expand

ButYeah, I'm seriously going to go there and give this a negative review, because Disney's android armies are here to bat for them. Now, normally the occasional plot hole or shoehorned story element that beggars belief does not bother me. But this movie is filled with absolutely bone-headed decisions by Parker (Holland does his best but at times seems confused - I blame constant rewrites as the writing is insufferable) and the plot? It's an amount of stupid that I just cannot handle. Just about the only highlights this film had to offer were the performance by Jake Gyllenhaal, and the fights, while heavily-reliant on CGI, are generally fun. I enjoyed the final fight scene and Zendaya's character is more interesting than in Homecoming. Even Ned is funny at times.

But that doesn't excuse poor writing that presents a whiny character that scarce resembles the selfless Peter Parker, who was motivated by PROTECTING THOSE CLOSEST TO HIM!!! Absolutely none of the choices Peter Parker makes in this film is for the right reason, or for the noblest intent. Minor SPOILER here... Mysterio's trick on Peter could only have worked if he knew what an incredible bonehead this kid is. Biggest and most unexplained plot failure right there.

And that scene where they tried to convince me that Peter understands the ramifications of Multiverse theory being real? **** all you did was copy out the textbook come the **** on. You obviously cannot write characters smarter than you are, so why didn't you bring in an expert to help you with that scene?

Oh, I'll tell you why. It's ****ing laziness.

My wife and Mom were just as exasperated as I was to see what Peter does in the bus. I walked out of the room right there because it was so poorly motivated, realized, or executed.

This tottering fool of a director, Jon Watts, could have more judiciously chopped this movie down. Trim the bad jokes, tuck the padding, and improve the character choices...

Here's another one for you. Why the ever-loving cuss, after seeing the projection, didn't Parker IMMEDIATELY call Nick Fury?!? That he simply doesn't want to be involved with him ENDANGERS EVERYONE and PUTS THE CITY OF LONDON AT RISK OF MASS CASUALTIES. IT BEGGARS CUSSING BELIEF.

All you needed to fix this was one line of dialogue.

Spider-Man: *receives a call from Nick Fury, answers*
Nick Fury: Line's compromised - I'll call you back.

They wouldn't even need to drag Samuel L. Jackson out of bed. Have the guy send a voice recording from his phone. No one can tell the cussing difference anyway, because the sound mix is so sloppy! Also worst Giacchino score!! Come on dude! Fallin' asleep at the wheel here! Love, a fan.

IN SHORT CUSS THIS MOVIE THE END

They might as well rename Michelle to Mary Jand because anything the director said back when homecoming came out about her not being Mary Jane is absurd, just because she spouts morbid history and conspiracy theories doesn't make her a original character.
Worst of all is the mid credits scene because while it brings a beloved character we've all been asking for into the MCU it ruins it by having a big plot twist that could very well kill this spider-man movie series all for them to redo the "WHAT THE FU-" joke from the first movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I dont understand how this movie is getting such good reviews. The people who like this must have no idea about who Spiderman is.
Marvel/Sony has butchered this version of Spiderman and made him into something he is not. Who greenlit this script? Hey movie guys, heads up, HE IS NOT IRON MAN!! Spiderman is beloved because he is relate-able. He is an average guy, who balances being a superhero with daily pressure (going to school, working, taking care of his Aunt and trying to have a social life) Oh yeah, and hes brilliant too. And since he lost his Uncle due to his own negligence he always, always goes out of his way to help everyone.
What has sony/marvel done to him??
1. Well i guess Uncle Ben never existed in this version because Peter does everything in his power to avoid responsibility in this movie. The only time he acts is when his personal friends are in a direct line of danger. 2. He has access to all Starks tech. Everything. EVERYTHING. Peter is even designing his own suits one a hologram screen aboard a Stark jet. Ummmm, thats not the Peter I know. Where is his resourcefulness?
3. Both stand alone movies have done a poor job of showing how smart he is. In far from home he has one line that shows his intelligence. But thats it. His brain is possibly his biggest asset, and its null and void in this series.
4. There were almost none of the quips Spiderman makes when in battle in Far From Home.

Now to this movie and all its problems
Wasnt Michelle/MJs dad the Vulture? No mention of that here.

They turned the death of Ironman, cap, widow, vision into a 30 second comedy montage. These were beloved heros that died. Its kind of a tasteless joke, honestly.

How many times did I need to see Peter in getting undressed. It was actually kind of creepy.

All the mindless junior high level jokes in this movie are unreal. It was barely above fart level humor. Even when he tries out his new costume, he tugs at his crotch. There was not one serious moment in this movie. Very similar to The Last Jedi.

Mysterio's reason for turning villain? He got fired and his invention was given a dumb acronym. How lame is that. Then his whole plan was a completely unreal level of impossible, even for a comic book movie.

To much trying to make old people look hip and uncool. The whole "ghosting" thing was cringe worthy. And while we are on it why all the focus on Happy and the two bumbling teachers?

Love how his classmates kept stumbling into danger. Over and over again. This is poor writing. Sitcom level stuff here.

This goes back to Homecoming, but why the need to change beloved characters into something they are not? MJ, Flash, Ned, Betty, Aunt May, Im looking at yall. I know they are trying to do the all inclusive PC thing but its suuuuccch overkill. Just call them by different names if the dont even resemble their inspiration at all. By the way, that bus driver better have not been Kraven.

Why on Gods green earth did they feel the need to reveal his idenity????? Again, hes not Iron Man! Where do you even take this story now? So now he can never have a job at the Bugle and all his friends/family have a target on their back. Why?

There are soooo many other things wrong with this movie but i just cant. The few things i do like are Tom Holland as Peter, Jake Gyllenhal was a good Mysterio and Im glad JK SImmons is back as JJJ. The rest of this movie was trash and ruined what spiderman is supposed to be.
Good job Marvel. You finally got your main hero back in your universe and you destroyed everything we loved about him over the course of two full length movies. What a way to end Phase 3. Sad and disapointing

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is mediocre-at-best. The villain is your typical "Tony Stark shunned me so I want to prove my worth". It is not interesting anymore. Most jokes fell flat. It was just so poorly timed that it ruins the mood instead of being funny. It also consists of "WTF" moments that makes no sense or makes the prior scene stupid. One example is Mysterio revealing Spider-man is Peter. When did he record that? It was poorly done. The part where Mysterio filled Spider-man with illusions was too "on-point" to be believable. The movie had few good scenes but most of it is mediocre. 20/100. Expand

After the end credits rolled I turned to Allen and apologized for picking this over "Wild Rose" to see as our Friday movie! Then I added, "No more Marvel movies except Antman which at least are funny."

The man problem with this type of movie
After the end credits rolled I turned to Allen and apologized for picking this over "Wild Rose" to see as our Friday movie! Then I added, "No more Marvel movies except Antman which at least are funny."

The man problem with this type of movie is that they may have an effective special effect that is attention-getting and then they repeat it 3-4 times and you have a 'so what?' reaction. They also increase whatever they have in the scene, for instance instead of, say planes, in a scene now they have one hundred!

Another problem is the length such as this one that runs 2 hours and 15 minutes due to those over-extended special effects scenes and in this one a teenage 'love' story that could have been eliminated and cut the movie easily to under 2 hours.

Tom Holland as a teenage Spider-Man is 'cute' as he should be. He recently said he would have no problem if it turns out that Spider-Man is Gay which would at least make his character more interesting. Marisa Tomei as his aunt looks super but is wasted in what amounts to a cameo and Samuel L. Jackson hopefully gets a super paycheck for a phoned in performance while Jake Gyllenhaal brings a load of good looks and charisma to the poorly written role of Mysterio. Zendaya as Holland's love interest is interesting, while Angourie Rice and Jacob Batalon are delightful as Spider-Man's, AKA Peter Parker, classmates with Batalon bringing an extra dollop of humor to the screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

In a picture such as this which is full of special effects it is hard to say whether the director, Jon Watts, or the visual effects supervisor, Janek Sirrs, should get the credit for the look and feel of the film.

"Spider-Man: Far From Home" is/was not for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MCU Spider-man is an insult to the character

He's a watered down shell of what Spider-man is

Everything is about Tony STark in the MCU for Peter. Even the final act is about Iron Man's stupid glasses

It's a joke. I called Beck not being from an alternate Earth months ago and even said it'd probably turn out he was fired by Tony once and that's why he was doing what he was doing. That's just how predictable the MCU has gotten.

It's not a good movie. At all. Holland is annoying as Peter and Spider-man. The Skrull reveal was an absolute joke. They turned what should have been a terrifying moment into a joke. Since Captain Marvel made the Skrulls the good guys, revealing Fury and Hill were Skrulls the whole movie was played off as laughs which one person actually found funny in the theater

The cringe humor was hard to sit through, and seeing such low-brow humor as nutshots in a 2019 film just shows how little Marvel Studios think of their audience. And seeing people run to see these movies dozens, in some cases 100 times shows they have their audience pegged correctly.

Spider-man: Far From Source Material
Spider-man: Far From Good

Better and more accurate titles for the movie

Avengers: Endgame was a plot hole filled mess that broke it's own continuity and ignored it's own rules for time travel, but it felt like a fitting end for the franchise. And with Hollands recent "Peter should be gay because I hate seeing straight white guys in these movies" and with the low quality of this film, the MCU really should have ended with Endgame

My question to Tom Holland is why did he accept the role if he felt white people had to much screen time in the MCU? DOes he see something else in the mirror besides a white guy?

Avoid this movie

The Clone Saga from the 90s does Spider-man more justice than this turd.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Terrible movie in my opinion. Mysterio makes no sense! He creates illusions, using Tony Stark’s army or drones. Powered by sunglasses endowed to Spidey. Such a tacky idea. Also, marvel/Disney is continuing to make Spider-man, a mini Iron man. Enough with the super power suits. Just like Spidey be Spidey! Utterly boring... This is a filler episode that was found on the cutting room floor, blown in from the rejected pile. A total snoozefest. Don’t know how this got so well reviewed and so much takings at the BO.

Lazy, unimaginative writing, poor direction and a mediocre young cast that even Samuel Jackson and Jake Gyllenhaal can't save. The plot is just an unintelligible hodgepodge which proves tremendously unsatisfying and even the CGI is just so-so.

They go heavy on the comedy and I rarely find any of the jokes funny. I don't consider this to be a legit Spider-Man film. Its just one big joke. 20 minutes in I paused to make sure I was watching the right movie. You can skip the first 20 minutes and not miss anything but stupid jokes. The action picks up after but I was never invested emotionally. I think this might be a good movie for young children but any adult should probably pass on this. It's definitely not Spider-Man 1 or 2. Actually I would rather watch Spider-Man 3 even though it's cringe. I watched this movie because I like Jake Gyllenhaal. He's a great actor. I liked him in this up to the point where they made him the bad guy. He was very charismatic and likable. He called Spider-Man a kid over and over. That's the problem with this Spider-Man. He is a kid. I want adult Spider-Man played by Tobey Maguire. Give me Spider-Man 4.. Even if it's worse than Spider-Man 3 I have a hard time believing it would be worse than Spider-Man Far From Home. The same people that like this are probably the same people that liked Shazam and all the other dumb superhero movies of late... Even the ones I kind of like have dumb comedy in them these days. Aquaman is a good example of one that is dumb but offers so much more that I try to over look it. But I couldn't do that here because it just sucked. It was just a bad Spider-Man parody. Expand

Responsibility, bad luck, few friends, money problems. But when you see this movie you don't have any of those words, instead you get a generic MCU movie without personality. If this movie was from a new character, I would like it and don't even write a review but this film is from Spider-Man. If you ignore that the entire previous film was about learning to be responsable and in this movie he just don't want to be a hero because he wants to date a girl and that's it. In Spider-Man 2 we saw how the entire universe slap Peter in the face any time but in this film he is just lazy. The good aspects of the film are the VFX and the charisma of some actors and that's why you don't get bored too much. The plot isn't that solid and the plot twist are so predictable. It's a fine movie and the worst Spider-Man movie ever. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me give my thoughts by describing the movie’s climax:

Spider-Man fabricates a custom suit on his private jet while on his way to take back his pair of glasses that control military-grade drones.

The dialogue is cringe-inducing and the shot composition is completely flat. The days of sweeping camera shots and fabulous web-swinging scenes are gone.

But mostly, the writing in this movie is atrocious. The characters were flat, the plot was generic and CGI does not make a movie good. Even commercials have CGI. CGI isn’t special anymore. Diversity + CGI = the modern entertainment industry. They wouldn’t know a good story if it crawled out their nethers. We did not need yet another coming of age story, but clearly the industry can’t come up with anything original. Remakes, sequels and coming of age are all they can do and what’s worse is they do them horridly. Writers in the modern entertainment industry are incompetent buffoons and the execs who green light all this garbage are idiots. This movie is an utter waste of time. Expand
