I never played Sonic the Hedgehog. I have no nostalgia or affection for this character. Only saw the movie in order to take my child to something on a weekend that was too cold for the playground. It was great! And Jim Carrey was hilarious! AI never played Sonic the Hedgehog. I have no nostalgia or affection for this character. Really really fun and entertaining, it's obviously aimed at younger audiences but it does an wonderful job at that (kids in my screening were having a blast) and bringing memories to old fans like me. Sonic the Hedgehog was a surprisingly well made kids movie. It was fun to watch, even as an adult! Jim Carrey is above and away the best part of the movie, and I got major Ace Ventura vibes from his performance as Dr. Robotnik. The "official" critics are completely clueless nowadays when it comes to movies like this. They use all sorts of flowery "smart guy" language to explain all of their pompous reasons why this movie apparently is garbage.

If you're a Sonic fan, or just a parent looking to take their kids to a fun movie, go see it. It's funny, heart warming, and is solid in it's execution of a decent and straight forward plot. It takes elements from the games and manages to find fun ways to use them in a movie set in a real world.

Don't listen to the"professional"critics that don't know how to just take a movie for what it is any more and have fun with it. The people involved with this film knocked it out of the park. Go see it.… Expand

I can't believe I saw this movie. I always wanted a Sonic the Hedgehog movie since I was a kid and now it finally came true. I absolutely love it! The jokes, the characters, and the references to the games was spot on. Also that end creditsI can't believe I saw this movie. I waited all my life as a kid who was a sonic fan for a sonic movie to finally happen. My daughter and I loved it. It was what I was hoping for. I honestly had a lot of fun with this movie. I'm not the biggest Sonic fan in the world, but I remember watching the Sonic X series as a kid. It has a lot of cliches that were annoying, but then again, the way the writers play with them isI honestly had a lot of fun with this movie. I love how the human characters were good in their own right and don't overtake the film. It's not dumb human characters and sonic is in the background, this is Sonic's movie and he's played great by Ben Schwartz. I adore how the husband and wife are in love, make sacrifices and don't have marriage problems like every movie ever. The product placements really sucked and took me out of it sometimes. Good family movie and has some awesome action pieces.… Expand

Free Screenings FTW, am I right?

Oh, how I love expecting a movie to be fun, only for that to still finish itself in a pleasant surprise... I actually kinda loved the Sonic movie. Yes, THE Sonic movie that suffered in production hell that isFree Screenings FTW, am I right?

Oh, how I love expecting a movie to be fun, only for that to still finish itself in a pleasant surprise... I actually kinda loved the Sonic movie. Yes, THE Sonic movie that suffered in production hell that is also (luckily) making its money back at the Box Office.

But it also confirms that Paramount is in serious need of "original" content inside some Franchise fare, in an era post-MI: Fallout. BumbleBee succeded for ET-ing the franchise in hopes of a good Transformers movie, while Terminator Dark Fate (which I still love) "Force Awakened" itself in making a movie we've all seen before.

Enter now Sonic The Hedgehog, which has nothing surprising in store for everyone, and uses (once again) its ET structure purely to please all families, instead of being A true Videogame Movie. At the same time, though, it's a weird mix. As if Spielberg asked for some drugs by SEGA, and ended up making a "supposed" sequel to ET that is so rushed and so fast (which makes sense in a way for the titular character), it's hard to get a break and pause itself, and when it does, it's both in the most random of places and tries to give the movie some heart. The breaks reek so much of a 90s movie, it's kinda unintentionally hilarious.

What also makes up for its similarity is the comeback of Jim Carrey as his "normal" self (oh, and also Dr. Robotnik, but who really cares about him, I guess?). Dear God, how I missed his crazy self in a theatrical release is just like how I missed seeing Joe Pesci in theaters. His Robotnik didn't really work for me that much, as he plays the 2000's Villain we've seen in Superhero Movies like Hulk or Fantastic 4 (he's a Villain...because!!)

And what really shocked me in a sense (besides the new design)... Junkie XL's Score. Going from Alita and Terminator to Sonic really gives you shock values, heh...

So... that's that! Sonic is monstrously fun, and to think about that is like thinking there's an alternate universe where Troll And I was actually a really good videogame... Oh, wait. That doesn't exist, and it's for good… Expand

Believe it or not, despite a few hiccups when it comes to story direction, Sonic The Hedgehog is a whole lot of fun and actually pretty heartfelt and funny. I'd say it's the second best video game adaption right behind Tomb Raider (2018).

A surprisingly nice film. Nice humor and cool CGI. Jim Carry as a bad guy was very appropriate to his role. Why he was after Sonic is still not entirely clear to me, but it didn't make the film any less fun.

I can never fault actors for the script. Jim Carey was Jim Carey, but I think he was close to what we should expect for Dr. Robotnik. Sonic was... okay.

I grew up on Sonic playing it with my siblings on the PlayStation. The first trailer was a huge disappointment, but the second gave me hope that Paramount and Sega was listening to fans of the series. Was the movie perfect? yes. This is the Sonic Movie I've been waiting for 20 years!
IT'S ALL I EVER WANTED AND A LIL' MORE!!

My favorite character (Eggman/Robotnik) was portraited PERFECTLY by the always Amazin' Jim Carrey, Sonic? was lovable as ever! he had the Ego that I thought he would lack, just a Lil' subdued for his earlier years!
The extra characters made me care 'bout 'em! and this is a big thing a movie can do!
The Badniks even just bein' robots, were Masterfully designed and used throughout the movie!

The Story is not a new one by far, but it was told in a unique perspective and had a LOT of Emotion and Soul poured into it!
Some predictability is not bad now and then, and the movie used it to its advantage!

for me... 10/10, my favorite Game Movie EVER Made (thus far) Can't wait to see it again, always bringin' in someone else to experience it with me!

I really hope this does not get a Sequel, but becomes a Franchise!
It Deserves all the Love and Praises it's gettin'!~… Expand

Reason why I'm not giving a perfect 10 is because like most movies, Sonic the Hedgehog isn't without flaws. Biggest problem is that the movie was too short. There were some flaws within the plot as well that didn't make sense and maybe could've been explained better if the run-time were extended. Still, I'd recommend giving this movie a go. Just don't take it seriously.

Fortunately, this movie in my opinion does more things right than it does wrong. For starters, Ben Schwartz does probably the best Sonic voice since Ryan Drummond and Jason Griffith. To me, he does a fantastic job at doing an energetic and young Sonic that someone like Roger Craig Smith otherwise still doesn't nail quite as well as past actors. And Jim Carrey? Well here he does a great job at being Robotnik and just overall being the Jim Carrey we all recognize and enjoy from the 90's.

Putting actors aside, some other things I enjoyed are the many references throughout the movie. So many in fact that I couldn't catch them all during my first viewing. Definitely going to watch this again once it comes out on Blu-Ray and see what I missed. The humor was pretty good and got both myself and the audience laughing many times. Some action scenes were pretty cool to see as well, including the full pickup chase scene that probably most of us have only seen partially in the many trailers released.… Expand

I was really excited for this movie, especially after the huge amount of praise given to it on Twitter and from YouTubers. I finally got around to watching it, and I have very mixed opinions. I finally got around to watching it, and I have very mixed opinions. Sonic is just really, really annoying- I expected something more like the Sonic Boom TV show Sonic. Instead, he's just annoying and not very likeable. The movie is very obviously aimed at kids, but there is some fan service in there and I can appreciate that. My favourite scene out of the entire movie has to be the bar fight scene, that was really funny. I really feel like the movie doesn't go into much detail about who Dr Robotnik actually is and his origin story. Or why Sonic refers to him as Eggman. There really isn't much substance storywise, which is why I hope we get a prequel or sequel as the post-credit scene hints at. Overall, major disappointment, but a pretty decent film for a video game movie.… Expand

Um dos melhores filmes de um personagem de video game. É claro que nessa categoria tem vários filmes ruins, a concorrência não é tão grande. Mas esse filme do Sonic é realmente bom.

I found this to be a good time.

I felt that Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz, Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Rec) had a surprisingly sympathetic backstory/character arc There are a lot funny lines in this that will also work with adults. EffectsI found this to be a good time.

Effects and action-wise the movie does a good job of depicting the hedgehog's superspeed and his attack abilities. Dr. Robotnik's robots are also well designed and I like their sleek look. I'm especially pleased that the studio took the time to change Sonic's appearance after the world first got their look at the attempt to make him more realistic. (Kind of creepy. Everyone's complaining about the human teeth, but it was his weird suction-esque lips that weirded me out.) He looks good in this. I think some of the lighting on him doesn't always match the scene but this is a nitpick considering that the computer animators had to redo the character within a short amount of time.

Bare in mind that this isn't the ideal Sonic story I'd have gone with. This takes place on Earth, so we see very of Sonic's distinctively imaginative video game world and most of his supporting characters. (Yeah, a lot of people don't like a lot of Sonic's growing number of ancillary characters, but I think most of us would've liked to see him alongside Tails or Knuckles.) One wonders why this had to be live action instead of entirely computer animated. This taking place on Earth is hurt more by the fact that this goes with a basic odd-couple-on-the-road-together-scenario. Moments where Sonic and his human friend (X-Men and Westworld's James Marsden) get into heated disagreements can feel forced. Also, Marsden's character has an at times frustratingly one-dimensional disapproving sister-in-law.

Schwartz was a really good choice for Sonic. He has an energetic delivery. Though Jim Carrey doesn't have the round physique of the original Dr. Robotnik, he does an excellent job as a completely egotistical madman. The actor has some of the best lines in the movie, maintaining his gift for improv while never feeling like he is out of character. Credit should also be given to Lee Majdoub who does a pretty good job acting off of Carrey as Robotnik's put-upon assistant.

Compared to the other recent video game-based family film Detective Pikachu, this isn't quite as good. The movie just isnt' as ambitious or innovative. Still, this is a nice film the kids should like.… Expand

I thought the movie was fantastic. I really wasn't sure what to expect after the whole redesign debacle, but they really nailed the look and feel for Sonic. My only criticism was they gave Sonic a little too much speed. He is basically the Flash (which is funny cuz there's a reference to the Flash), but it made for some entertaining scenes. If you're a fan of the games you def owe it to yourself to check it out.

Had a lot of fun watching this movie. It has some really funny moments and you grow to actually care about Sonic and the rest of the cast. Jim Carrey was great and I couldn't have been more satisfied with his supervillain mania. WouldHad a lot of fun watching this movie. Loved it! Sit back and soak in this fun film, don't think too seriously and look for logic. Just enjoy it for what it is like you would a video game! Loved all the call backs and references. Yeah, it was a simple story, but really enjoyable, it was the perfect choice to redesign Sonic, he was really cute and adorable all the time. I was one of the people who wanted the redesign of the Sonic movie. It was worth a watch. Dr. Robotnik played by Jim Carrey was hilarious at times reminded me of Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Wholesome family friendly movie. I think Jim Carey did well in his role, and found myself smiling throughout the movie despite it being so corny.

I cant think of a better video game to movie adaptation in my life. Sonic = If your a fan that grew up with the games, this characterization of Sonic WILL disappoint you. Soundtrack is by far the worst part of the film. For Sonic, this is a horrible score and the reason the movie is a 6 to me. Sonic has some of the most iconic songs in the gaming industry. Expertly produced, performed, written music put together in a studio. The orchestral route was absolutely the wrong choice for a Sonic movie. Overall this movie isn't what long-time fans like myself wanted. I want sequels, but I want the next film to accurately represent the source material, and not bastardize it. Honestly, I'm just happy Sonic is in the spotlight, but I expect better.… Expand

I really enjoy this movie. It is a film for kids and has silly things, but you have to get into the story (which is quite simple) and you enjoy it a lot. First I would like to thank you Paramount Pictures. Other studios need to take a page out of your book. Second, opening weekend every showing was so packed i had trouble getting a good seat at any time. So congrats.

Now to the movie itself. The good the bad the ugly. Ill start rather than end with score. 9/10.

Is it perfect no. But for what it is its the best movie I've seen in a long time. The character(s), that is plural btw stay after the credits to see what i mean, look amazing. Although you did make me think of Weresonic a couple times so that's a negative.

I was laughing and having a great time some based on nostalgia some based on enjoying kids movies. Either way I was happy for about the entire runtime. Was there logical inconsistencies sure. Some made sense cuz it was a kids movie other didn't make sense but it was ok because it was forgivable for a kids movie, i.e. inconsistent power functions, lighting changes to match tone but not time.

My final gripe was the one point off. Robitnik is great. Jim Carrey nails the level of eccentricity. Its a different brand but similar level so good on you. The problem is the San Fran scene. Its not shown but any adult would notice that casual murder is implied. Robitnik lack of care for other humans and the event on screen means people are dying and he has not remorse for it. I am not a parent but i believe that may just be a tad too far for a kids movie and is the only reason i did not give this a 10/10. All having been said, I loved it and you have me ready for a sequel… Expand

My Family and I love this movie. We are so thankful for the redesign and how it allowed us to feel immersed with Sonic. All his gadget have this kind of "realism" to them, which wasn't really welcome. This movie is made up of 3 elements that all work better on their own.
I don't really recommend this, it fails to deliver anything beyond what you'd expect from a Generic IconicCharacter Cash-Grab.… Expand

Okay, that was fun. A legitimately good, entertaining movie. Was it a game changer? No. Did it have flaws? Sure, yes. But did I sit there, the whole movie long, with a big grin on my face? Absolutely. Jim Carrey stole the goddamned show, asOkay, that was fun. A legitimately good, entertaining movie. Was it a game changer? No. Did it have flaws? Sure, yes. But did I sit there, the whole movie long, with a big grin on my face? Absolutely. Jim Carrey stole the goddamned show, as is only right and proper. This was full on 1995 Jim, where you take the goofy, chaotic neutral Trickster/Coyote that is The Mask and go full on sinister evil. That's Dr Robotnick.

Oh, and Raul Julia must now surrender the Overacting As A Video Game Villain belt. Dear god, no scenery escaped chewed. Actually that's very apt - if you liked Street Fighter, then Sonic is RIGHT up your alley!

The sonic redesign was fine, the effects worked. The script is very linear and the characters very broad - but I don't mean that in a pejorative way. They're very basic archetype characters that get the job done and do what they need to do and I found myself caring about them and their fates. That's a win in any book.

Is it flawless? No. Does it reshape cinema forever? No. But it's fun and full of heart and charm and is completely entertaining. The movie is exactly what it needs to be, no more, no less. I absolutely recommend the movie to any and all. It was a fun evening out.… Expand

Jim Carrey is the standout - his best performance in over 20 years. Sonic is kind of annoying. The plot is serviceable. Some inspired moments, but mostly quite generic. Vale la pena ir a verla, la adaptación y los arreglos hechos a sonic tuvo buenos resultados. La historia es entretenida y para los fans no creo que queden haya decepción.

I don't want to review this movie the same way I review other movies as this is a kids film, clearly aimed at kids.

Video game movies tend to be horrible. The only remotely decent video game movie has been Detective Pikachu which was notI don't want to review this movie the same way I review other movies as this is a kids film, clearly aimed at kids.

Video game movies tend to be horrible. The only remotely decent video game movie has been Detective Pikachu which was not great but a step in the right direction. Likewise, Sonic the Hedgehog continues this step in the right direction but is not great. The movie itself is an enjoyable time and will keep you having a good time for its 90 minute runtime.

I am not a huge fan of Sonic but I have played a fair amount of Sonic games to know enough about him. I can with confidence say that this will no doubt satisfy Sonic fans. It feels really clear that the director and people behind this movie actually care about Sonic. This movie in no way feels like a cash grab (especially considering they delayed the movie and redesigned Sonic to satisfy fans). Some of the things I enjoyed in this movie include Ben Schwartz as Sonic who completely embodies the Personality of Sonic. Additionally, the other best part of this movie is Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. Seeing Jim Carrey give a performance that is reminiscent of his earlier days was as enjoyable as you expect it to be. James Marsden also does a good job and delivers some good chemistry with Sonic. Overall, the human characters are actually all okay which is surprising as usually in movies with CGI characters as focus; the human characters tend to be really bad (looking at you Godzilla King of monsters). The action scenes are fun and enjoyable, especially when Sonic does his slow mo scenes.

The movie has flaws but it might not really matter that much considering it is a movie aimed at kids but adults who grew up with Sonic will no doubt watch this. The story is very simplistic but there are so many things that happen in the movie that don't seem to have any consequences. For example, the amount of destruction happening seems to result in no consequences. The movie also uses a lot of cliches that have occurred in so many movies by now, it makes the movie very predictable. The movie also has so many weird product placement that are so blatant that it genuinely makes you wonder (you're going to come out of this movie thinking about Olive Garden for sure...). Finally, kids might not enjoy this movie cause at the Cinema I was at; there was a kid who couldn't focus or bother keeping their eyes on the movie so that might be saying something.

In the end, Sonic fans are going to enjoy this movie, people who grew up in the 90s are going to enjoy this movie, fans of Jim Carrey are definitely going to enjoy this movie, and kids/families are going to enjoy this movie (most kids anyway). You are going to come out of this movie having a good time and isn't that the most important thing for a kids movie anyways?… Expand
