10/10 purely because the movie knew what it was supposed to be and stayed true to Sonic. I never once felt the need to check my watch during the film. Another rare case of a good video-game adaptation. I was surprised how good and funny this movie was. Nearly everyone has heard of the controversy when the first trailer was released. The CGI for Sonic looked really bad (Others used wordsAnother rare case of a good video-game adaptation. I was surprised how good and funny this movie was. Nearly everyone has heard of the controversy when the first trailer was released. The CGI for Sonic looked really bad (Others used words like horrible, an abomination or a sin against humanity ;-). Now the awesome part happen. The developers / people in charge listen to the complaints and changed the appearance to the Sonic design we know. I must give them my full respect. Many others have ignored the fan backlash and failed. Here it is rewarded with the best box office for a video-game movie. Nearly everything in this movie works and the actors are amazing. Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik alone is worth watching the movie. He instantly won us over and you see the fun he had in (t)his enjoyable role. It ends not here. James Marsten has a really good chemistry with Sonic. It is like a buddy road movie. Tika Sumpter has also a great chemistry with both. These four alone would be enough for a great movie. But there is more. The story is a good vehicle to deliver the character development, excellent humor garnished with tons of Easter Eggs for fans. All jokes work here and like I said Jim Carry is unbeatable. I must also praise the soundtrack. So many good songs including Where Evil Grows (Anarchy of evil mix Dr. Robotnik;-), Don't stop me now from Queen, Speed me up (Great video) and more. I will definitely buy the soundtrack and the movie. Sega does what Nintedon’t ;-). Overall an excellent video game movie that will definitely get a sequel. Watch the post (mid?) credit scene to get hyped for it.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie could be a catastrophy if made with the old, highly criticizes Sonic model. But it's really watchable and nice, if you already know what to expect.
The "new" sonic is very charismatic and its visual appeal is, without a doubt, one of the main reasons for that. Its cute, evokes directly the design we all know and love, the animation process is great and voice acting is kinda good.
The movie plot is just regular - not that we were expecting a mindblowing plot here, but some things are kinda thrown at us just to keep the things going. Like, Sonic's "quails" have infinite energy? Or even his bucket list? Too cliché, even for a movie of this category.

Jim Carrey has his moments, though. His dances and characterization are funny and he kinda steals the spot. IF you're a Carrey fan, there is a full share of him for you here.

They should have also improved / changed some things imho (Spoilers):
- Sonic as an alien? Really? Another dimension or another world, ok. Another planet was really weird.
- There are a lot of incongruencies regarding his speed. He can be REALLY quick at some times, almost on the impossible side (bar fight), and be stupidly slow when needed (ex fight with Robotnik or climbing the pyramid). Yeah, a movie about a blue hedgehog do not have to be realistic, but still...
- I was expecting him to become Super Sonic at the end. It didn't happen and it seemed like a huge opportunity lost. But then the post credit scene kinda suggests that he'll heve other opportunity for that. - They should have made Robotnik trapping small critters and animals inside the drones, like the game, as a source of energy of some kind. That would be a nice touch directly linked to the original game.… Expand

It's an incredibly cheesy almost instantly forgettable movie that is greatly elevated by the performances of Schwartz and Carrey. My biggest issue with the film is the absolute failure to do anything unique or offer anything that stands out. Pretty much the entire movie is spoiled by the trailers so that I feel took away from it a lot as well.

I was never a Sonic fan. But I kind of am after watching this movie. It brought him to life - full of charm and character. And the way it blends with "our world" was pretty terrific.

The character of Dr. Robotnik was fantastic - Carrey's best role in a long time. I love how the whole setup for his character was so goofy. The movie does not take itself too seriously, and that works to its advantage. They walked a fine line with that, and they nailed it.

I wouldn't mind a sequel, although I do hope they keep it simple and don't just turn everything to 11 as they tend to do with most effect-movies where the origin story has already been told. Sonic needs the charm. Keep it like that.… Expand

Sonic The Hedgehog is a pretty entertaining video game adaptation. Youngsters will probaly love this more than your average adult, but it is well-paced and reasonably funny. You could do significantly worse than this title.

As a sonic fan I have to say, it is one of the best video game films I have ever seen, Sonic today is still the target of injustices committed by the gamer community and especially the critics, the film has already paid for itself by raisingAs a sonic fan I have to say, it is one of the best video game films I have ever seen, Sonic today is still the target of injustices committed by the gamer community and especially the critics, the film has already paid for itself by raising more than its budget, I am sad to see a stupid 47 for the "specialized review", I watched the movie and had a lot of fun, one of the best 1 hour and 40 minutes of my weekend.

-Good soundtrack
-Good interpretations
-Exceptional work by Jim Carrey in the interpretation of Dr. Robotinik
-Good Sonic adaptation and modeling (after the first version of course)
-Well-developed characters

What really made the movie for me though was my favorite character tails appearing in the end, it was such an amazing after credits scene, and robotnik slowly turning more and more into eggman was genuinly genius. I went into this with low expectations. After watching that first trailer I thought the beloved Sega mascot was going to have a lot more working against him in this film than just a disturbing new look. Yet, I went to see it anyways out ofI went into this with low expectations. After watching that first trailer I thought the beloved Sega mascot was going to have a lot more working against him in this film than just a disturbing new look. Yet, I went to see it anyways out of appreciation for the studio's decision to admit their mistake and redesign the character. Something I believe they deserve to be rewarded at the box-office for. I ended up walking away pleasantly surprised. Sonic gets a superhero origin story. One with a surprisingly complex and rather bizarre supporting lore. A pretty good job was done crafting a narrative fit for theatre screens out of a game series that's not exactly known for having riveting writing. The titular hedgehog establishes his place in the world, meets his archnemesis, and even sets up a few sequels without any major hitches. The only things I can see that might anger purists are Sonic now being called an alien and his new electric powers. I highly doubt the outcry will be that large though.

You can tell this cute, funny adventure is aimed primarily at kids. Although I have heard it said there are some raunchy jokes. They either went completely over my head or weren't as egregious to me as they were to others. So personally I still say this is very family-friendly. It is something parents might want to consider though.

Yet, none of this is to say that the movie isn't still very juvenile. In fact its childish nature is probably the biggest knock one could have against it. Portions of the humor fail to connect with anyone outside of the youngest members of the audience. I mean there's a fart gag for crying out loud.

The thing that makes me more excited for a sequel to this as opposed to, say, Detective Pikachu (despite that being the better movie) are the human characters. The thought of having to put up with Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton again in order to see more of Reynolds-chu being adorable and quippy makes me ill. I could deal with Marsden and Sumpter's return however, as they were genuinely likable and never irritating.

Really the only thing that has me worried about a potential follow-up is Carrey. Never really been a fan of his particular brand of comedy. He was remarkably restrained here though so I found him tolerable. However, if he's let off the leash in a sequel I could see that really turning me off.

Overall, this turned out much better than history would have dictated. As much as that redesign undoubtedly helped make much of the film easier to swallow than it otherwise would have been, it really owes its success to adopting the modern superhero movie formula. Which proves to still be a winning format even in this extremely child-oriented state. It is particularly indebted to the X-Men series, which you can see during Sonic's high-speed antics where the world remains frozen around him just like Quicksilver. Sonic the Hedgehog might not blow any minds, but it is another sign that the infamous videogame movie curse is ending, if not already over.

Just watched it since they went through the trouble to fix sonic. Its a very nice, lighthearted watch, its mostly funny, a little sad and has lots of super cute moments.

Sinopsis:

Sonic intenta navegar por las complejidades de la vida en la Tierra con su nuevo mejor amigo, un humano llamado Tom Wachowski. Pronto deben unir fuerzas para evitar que el malvado Dr. Robotnik capture a Sonic y use sus poderes para dominar el mundo.

Opinión:

El año pasado pensaba que esta película sería un desastre ya que los avances no me convencían, hoy se demostró que estuve equivocado.

Tanto el guión como la trama no son una complejidad, pero al ser una película destinada a la familia es algo que no importa. Se nota que los realizadores le pusieron cariño, dedicación y esfuerzo, porque se nota, no se da vueltas y no resulta aburrida o lenta en ningún momento.

Cada personaje tiene su carisma siendo Sonic un verdadero encanto, parlanchín como ninguno, simpático y tierno, además, su diseño está excelente. Por otro lado está Jim Carrey actuando como Jim Carrey, pero lejos de ser algo malo, es para mejor, el tipo es un crack haciendo papeles cómicos y pese a que siempre hace en ese sentido el personaje de loco de patio, cae bien y aún mantiene su esencia.

Contiene dos escenas postcreditos, siendo la segunda una pista demasiado obvia de que habrá una secuela, lo cual me encantaría.

The plot is simple , but working , almost all the characters are well shown and spelled out (except for Tom's wife) , Jim Carrey as always the fire , but not one he took out the film , it's a shame that a lot of the jokes lost their meaning because of Russian localization of (generally tolerated) , arches not bad , but the same theme with letovym list I liked the film , as it managed to submit the story so I was wondering for all 100 minutes , went twice on it (1 time with my younger sister , 2 times with a friend , sister certainly liked but a friend said that a lot of illogical moments and the friendship between the main characters is not believable , what I strongly disagree with) but at the end of the film when I realized that this is the end, I realized that I was not enough of those 100 minutes , and when I was leaving the hall and the scene began after the credits with Tails, the whole room froze and watched enthusiastically, and this is what it says. This is a good seed for a trilogy, and given the fees in the world, there will definitely be a continuation, but I left the film, humor-unfortunately on 3+ or someone on 4 -, but in his defense I want to say that all the jokes were invented by actors (almost all) Jim - full improvisation, and James Marsden and Ben Schwartz came up with jokes together and for all this they should pay tribute, and if you leave only the funniest and original jokes, then you get such an average super hero film from MARVEL for example , but they also joked like Ozo with all their strength, there were a lot of jokes, but the overall quality failed, Sonic cute, Ben Schwartz gave him a great voice and facial expressions, thank him for this, James Marsden also plays cool, cool actor, waiting for more movies with him. Paramount with its advertising campaign (advertising was everywhere , even in the diary ru full screen) and the incident with the design (by which the film machipisa a little and raised respect in the face of the people when they redid it) and the sequel (and as for me one is not limited to) 1000% was in the plans (given the post-credits scene) and I was just a little, and it seems to me (*put on tin foil hat*) WHAT IS the background of the Paramount , the first was a redesign, and the second is to make a nice movie for the fans and to plant new people in the sonic (FAC new vagi like me) so they went the next film))0) But seriously it was right from the first Paramount film to do a simple and introductory , to attract a lot of people, and finally to deal with Canon (because in games going on some sort of game) the whole backstory left on the second film and rightly so , but I hope the sequel will not disappoint me , because part of the bet I made on him in General the film more than many in it see , but not brilliant masterpiece , have to work on the sequel , and I'm not a Sonic fan (except that little new VAG) and my opinion is completely biased and sometimes objectively , generally not a waste of money))) And I was just freaking out the people who compare the movie with the Smurfs , when it's just not the right comparison , first the Smurfs no character at all , and with them nothing can be done and come up with in the future (this is the main difference) and Sonic is a character , not bad and in games and serielle had a lot of ideas and twists , SEGA just very crooked things are made and any communication between the games is almost there (Boolean sure) , the second is the antagonist in the Smurfs it is completely empty and he is evil because evil and not Navid Smurfs simply because when the Eggman is, before history , has character and is a lot to think of and such as the Smurfs , he was not, as critics in the film to not valued because they do not know the context, and ACCORDINGLY they did not see the simple beauty and meaning of the film , and that's how it should work...… Expand

If you want a simple but entertaining film and imbued with nostalgia for those who ever played a Sonic game, well here's an option.

If you're looking for something else, you will not find it here and incidentally you're deceiving yourself.

Although it only remains to ask if the film had still worked with the public and the critics without the change of image that Sonic had. Because as far as I know there was no change in the story.

I grew up a sonic fan, loved the games and read a few of the comics. I never had a hankerin' for a live action movie, but this is probably the best it could have turned. Listen, I'm a life-long Sonic fan, so I have a bit of a biased opinion, so for me...this movie was great! There was never a dull moment, the action, and comedy are on par, and in abundance. Definitely exceeded all of my expectations.

This movie didn't interest me at first even though I like the Sonic franchise. With the latest trailer being a huge improvement over the original one. I was somewhat optimistic but video game movieDefinitely exceeded all of my expectations.

I was somewhat optimistic but video game movie adaptations haven't always been promising but with Detective Pikachu and now Sonic The Hedgehog both being good. I'm starting to have faith that more adaptations can be done.

Jim Carrey nailed Dr. Robotnik and really drove it home with his spectacular performance. Such a character as Dr. Robotnik can be done so wrong in so many ways and yet Jim Carrey not only did the character right but he stole every scene he was in.

Overall the film is absolutely worth seeing in theaters and I look forward to any sequels that come out.… Expand

I've been a Sonic fan for almost 10 years and I decided not to trust my intuition and give this movie a chance even though I knew perfectly that it won't be good. I couldn't believe I refrained from leaving on the 15th minute of the screening. I stayed with the hope that eventually the movie would get better. I went with two friends of mine and every 3 minutes we were commenting on almost every scene with disgust and the cringy absurdities. My father who still says the red Sonic, sadly, is much more informed than the people who made the movie. Everything starts with a scene, which has nothing to do with everything we know about Sonic's childhood. Sonic is one of a kind and was raised by an OWL?? Then some characters appear similar to the Knuckles clan who attack Sonic and he has to escape to the world of humans. Why? This clan was ancient, centuries before Sonic was born and also they wouldn't attack him without a purpose. They do it for money and Sonic doesn't seem very wealthy. And according to the movie, they want his superpower, which is an absurd notion since they can't steal it. And his power is ELECTRICITY! Since when? So many games show that electricity is even dangerous for Sonic! He can stop the power in a whole city and make explosions with electric waves. Then, even more hilarious, we see Sonic stopping time. Yes he may be fast but he can't do such a thing. And at the same time, with all these exaggerated powers, Sonic would completely lose them and instead of spin dash and destroy robots, as he has always been doing without a problem, we see him absolutely helpless so the human policeman has to fight f while driving a car at high speed. Looks like the creators of the movie haven't understood the hedgehog's powers at all. He runs fast but it doesn't mean that his whole body is fast. Here's proof - when he runs, his arms fly behind his body. During the whole movie they say that Sonic is lonely and doesn't have a single friend. Just because they didn't think of adding even one more Sonic character. I thought that the movie would be fine because the creators took into consideration the fans' opinion and they changed the disgusting first design. After all there was almost nothing to please us the true Sonic fans. So I don't know who the movie was made for, since my friends who didn't even know who Sonic was, left disappointed too. For years we fans have been saying that we don't want the other characters to be neglected. There are 50+ Sonic characters and the screenplay forgot about all of them and made Sonic a desperate loner. A human policeman is the only character we get,and of course Eggman, as always. Before I went to the movie I expected to see Tails, because of the rumors I had heard. I found out that he really did appear but after the ending credits, in a scene which is a spoiler for the next movie. Every time Sonic was complaining about not having a best friend I had a hard time not shouting "TAILS". If the movie had been made by Sonic fans, it would have been much better. I can't imagine how SEGA approved it, obviously they cared just for the money. To make things worse, Sonic's personality was completely changed. He has always been a brave, daring leader, ready for anything and in the movie he is like a tender scared kitten, lonely and desperate. I can't believe they made Sonic so pathetic. He might be cute but that's not him. The Sonic I've known the one in the movie are two completely different characters. Instead of being cool he is helpless and needing protection. He is even stupid. The people in the movie likewise acted inadequately like big fools. Most of the time Eggman didn't look like himself either. I just can't imagine the evil genius, who makes perfect robots to be driving a truck. And Sonic the fastest creature alive, driving a car and being scared that he won't be able to escape. Why? He is so fast. Why does he need a car? As for Eggman - how hard was it to remember his name? In the scene where they asked him about his name, he said: My name is DOCTOR. Ivo is a hard name, yes. Actually, there wasn't anything special about the Sonic movie except for the name. It was too much of a parody and the mistakes were numerous, there were not any familiar settings, music, the easter eggs were hardly enough. Its wasn't even funny and I am a person who laughs easily. Why spend so much money to achieve a result which will not please any true Sonic fan? The only part of the movie which made me happy was the SEGA intro nut it was so short. The movie didn't convey the magic of Sonic, as true fans understand it. Sadly it won't renew kids' interest to this character. We won't be seeing kids running around pretending to be Sonic. If there is ever a sequel, please recruit people who care about Sonic as consultants. It is pointless to make a movie about a beloved character if the people involved do not have the slightest idea what's essential for this.… Expand

Honestly, the critics got this one wrong. The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is incredibly fun to watch with friends and yeah it’s basically one big meme but looking at the film from an objective standpoint, it’s meh. It’s some dumb fun to turn your brain off for an hour for. Jim Carrey is unsurprisingly the best part of the film. He brings so much charm and humor to his performance that it’s almost impossible to take your eyes off him once he appears on screen. He goes back to his 90’s comedic approach which is just do crazy things which work for his character. It’s nice to see him go back to his roots. The rest of the performances are fine. They aren’t terrible but they aren’t great either. They are perfectly fine for what they were given. The humor is very hit or miss. I found some jokes and transitions funny while I cringed at others. The film does take memes and inserts them into the movie such as Keanu Reeves and Sanic which I enjoyed. Most of the humor comes from unintentional jokes. Some of the lines of dialogue are so bad that they are hilarious. Speaking of dialogue, the script is really meh. It wasn’t completely awful but it wasn’t that great. The technical aspects of the film were pretty bland too. The cinematography, editing, and production design were all pretty bland and boring. The visual effects were very mediocre. Sonic’s design is pretty good though. 100 times better than the original design but everything else using special effects looks fine or not great. There are a couple of plot contrivances which were pretty dumb. Sonic can definitely just run to San Francisco with a map. He does not need to take a road trip. James Marsden’s character is labeled as a NATIONAL FUGITIVE yet no one recognizes him. He is able to get to the top of a building in San Francisco going through security with no disguise and no one notices. How do you not recognize a national fugitive? Although I had these issues, I was never bored. Sonic was able to keep me engaged throughout its hour and 40 minute runtime. Overall, Sonic the Hedgehog is really fun and Jim Carrey is great but its script and story elements don’t make it as great as I had hoped. It's ironically a 10/10 though.… Expand

This movie has had a lot of flack over the last design of Sonic, but the entire movie, especially with Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, makes everything so much better. Jim Carrey as Robotnik/Eggman was absolutely hilarious, James Marsden's acting as Tom was top notch, this movie has an amazing blend of emotional moments with absolute epicness that is unmatched. My only gripe is that Sonic's powered up form could've been better explained with more than just "unlimited power", plus some moments in the movie drag jokes just a little too long. But that's literally a SECOND too long. Not any further. And the powered up form is still really awesome to watch, and the events that triggered it are absolutely mind-blowing. This movie carries emotional weight and has plenty of jokes that land, the packing is perfect, and the entire movie is jawdroppingly beautiful. Also, to everyone planning on watching it in theaters, don't leave right when the credits start. There's a special midcredits scene that you're going to love … Expand

I never cared about Sonic, never even played any of its games, and yes I knew about it.
But the movie and characters were so good I wanna watch it again, and I’m actually looking forward to the sequels!

What I liked about it was the relationship with James Marsden’s cop counterpart. They had chemistry. And I actually liked Sonic, also he had a very satisfying arc. A lonely and traumatized being that gets a loving family at the end. Archetypal, sure, but well told.
Even compared to other kids movies this is definitely one of the better ones.
Also I think the need of connection theme of the movie reached a personal level to me and many others. Even surrounded by people, we sometimes feel lonely. A deeper connection is needed. Best friends.
Forget "you HAVE to see this movie if you liked XYZ", it's a good movie. See it. Have a good time! It's worth it.… Expand

Really loved it. Was totally on par with the pokemon movie. I laughed and almost cried. sonic is funny and the action is good and the way they introduced video game concepts to a live action movie was clever.

Very fun and good for the family. Defenetily go see if you have kids as they'll love it and its not hard to sit through and you might enjoy the movie. Jim Carrey is funny in it as well but some jokes are defenitely 'kiddish'. Go watch forVery fun and good for the family. You have to go into this movie knowing its PG and targeted towards Children and as a family film, which is how I am rating it here: Myself, my wife and our 2 (almost) teenage children went to see it in theaters a couple days ago. We all 4 loved it! You have to put aside the realism of how fast they can drive certain distances, get access to certain places, etc.. but its a children's movie that's enjoyable by us adults as well. The remade Sonic was amazing and having actually played Sonic on a Genesis in the 90's and several times in his modern gaming renditions since, he looked amazing in his update from the original trailer. The action, story and progression, especially of Robotnic is great fun to witness as well. Completely worth it, we will definitely purchase it when its out on Bluray to watch with the kids again when it comes out!… Expand

I tried to enjoy this movie but I couldn't. He has several points in his favor, such as Sonic's design, but the story and humor are very stupid.

Filme muito bom a crítica está se doendo, iguinora, a lenda notas estranhas em todos os filmes, maioria da crítica é vermelha tb, mas nesse filme n é o caso da nota baixa deles enfim , nota 10 pra essa obra.
