Unsubtle and unashamed of it, this is consistently funny and rarely ineffective. If you can get through the opening song and the first scene or two you'll know if it's for you or not.

Wow, what a crazy experience! And yes, this is a very "R" film, but it's hilarious overlaying the social-commentary-filled storyline on animated food. Good times, whether you're high watching it or not.

Sausage Party does exactly what it says on the tin, delivering an outrageously hilarious and offensive Disney spoof that's as much fun for the audience as it seems to be for Seth Rogen and company.

If you love 1970's adult animated movies go watch this. Looks like a CGI version of the 1980's arcade game Burger Time. Well deserved Oscars runner up for the best Animated Feature.

There are different types of comedy some people are into, and different types of horror that some people are into. With 'Sausage Party', this is a Seth Rogen comedy disguised as some animated, almost Pixar-like type film. Imagine if Pixar made a movie with the premise "What if food had feelings?", but with Seth Rogen's crude and vulgar humor taking up most of the plot. There's a reason Pixar didn't make a movie with food as the main characters, because in Seth Rogen's words... "It would be f---ed up".

'Sausage Party' focuses on a hot-dog named Frank (voiced by Seth Rogen) who is on sale in a store along with his other hot-dog friends; Carl (Jonah Hill) and Barry (Michael Cera). He becomes infatuated with a bun named Brenda (Kristen Wiig), and the two of them believe, like all the other items on sale, that they will go to "The Great Beyond" when the humans, who are like gods to them, purchase them and take them home.

What they don't realize, however, is that "The Great Beyond" isn't quite as uplifting or magical as they would like to think. Honey Mustard (Danny McBride) tries to warn all the other items, after being returned to the store, that humans devour them in horrific looking ways, from their point of view at least, but nobody seems to believe him. Frank and Brenda do get chosen together by a customer, but somehow managed to get separated from the rest of the purchased items, and are stuck in the store until the next day, in the mean time, they must try and package themselves again and hopefully wait until another customer can buy them together.

There are a lot of funny scenes in this movie, most of the comedy does rely on shock-value, which is typical when it comes to Seth Rogen. There are a lot of "F" words being said by many characters many times, so much so to the point where your ears do get used to it, and the hilarious style of the "F" word can get a little boring and repetitive to listen to. The crude and over-use of sexual related jokes are also very funny and shocking, even more shocking towards the end which I will not spoil, but it does get a little too far-fetched. There is even your typical drug humor where we see many characters inhaling or consuming drugs and getting high all the time.

This movie does everything it can to earn its R-rating and uses almost every content that would get it there, when just the occasional "F" word being said here and there, and just crude sexual remarks would have been enough.

I admired the creativity behind this movie, I liked how the store was pretty much a whole world to these items and that the aisles were basically forms of neighborhood where these items live until they are purchased. The movie did make me laugh a lot (even at times when I should have known better), and it will do well to hold one's interest. Whether or not you get used to or sick of these jokes quickly can be a problem. There were times where I was thinking "This movie is rated R... I get it!"... but it is a whole lot of fun.

Maybe Rogen should tone it down next time, but this is one of the funniest movies of the year.

Keep your kids FAR away from this one!) But anyway this was undeniably a very funny film, maybe not quite as funny as I was hoping for admittedly and Rogen's style of humor feels all too present throughout most the film so it can't help but feel a little too familiar and not quite as fresh. Nonetheless, his humor is unique and and it's what's made him so funny in the first place, so I can't really deny or turn away from it either. Overall, die-hard Rogen fans will probably eat this right up (pun intended) while even casual comedy-goers will likely get a good kick out of it in many spots as well. Expand

Much like Deadpool did to the comic book genre earlier thisSausage Party, Seth Rogen’s appropriately named Pixar-spoof/raunch fest, is here and it is actually pretty entertaining, if you’re a sarcastic adult who enjoys **** on everybody. Much like Deadpool did to the comic book genre earlier this year, Sausage Party takes aim at the animation genre, finally making an animation for adults. Sausage Party is as funny as it is clever, gleefully filled with profanity, but is also surprisingly thought provoking. Sausage Party never quite reaches the level of quality, of that which it pokes fun at, but does manage to do everything it set out to do.
Watching this film it’s incredible the ensemble cast that Seth Rogen was able to gather for this film, featuring James Franco, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Edward Norton, Salma Hayek, and so many more. The plot of this film is actually a fairly entertaining one, but the real strength of the film is it’s humor. That isn’t surprising, considering the group behind it, but the film in essence jumps from one joke to another never leaving a dull moment. The main reason that the film is so funny is that the film is clever in how it pokes fun at the world of food.
Another reason that the film is so funny is that instead of trying to be politically correct, the film almost revels in it’s ability to insult whoever it can. Animation has, over the years, proven to be a genre mostly directed at kids, besides a few exceptions (South Park, Family Guy, the Simpsons.) That being said the use of excessive profanity within that genre is so rare that it often elevates a raunchy animated comedy. Seeing a bunch of talking hot dogs, and buns that are animated to look like sexual images, and then swear non-stop ends up being one of the funnier elements of the film.
It seems surprising that Pixar didn’t beat Sausage Party to this story though, because it could’ve been an even better Pixar film. By that I mean that the story of this film is actually quite clever and thought provoking, when you say to yourself, what food think if it could talk. The plot is not as focused as a Pixar film and the characters are not as emotionally involving, so Sausage Party feels more like a cheaper, raunchy Pixar film. However, this film does manage to attack a fairly thought provoking and deep storyline.
In the end, Sausage Party is a really good and often entertaining spoof of the animation genre for adults above a certain age, and of a certain mindset. The film tries to remain clear of racism, simply by insulting every group of people, without prejudice, we’ll see if that method works. The film is clever, funny, thought provoking, and gleefully profane. It should be stated that not everybody will enjoy this movie, but that’s partially the point.

What"Sausage Party" consists of mos of the tropes you would get out of a Seth Rogen comedy. There are plenty of crude jokes to keep Rogen's target audience howling with laughter but it also goes a little beyond what the trailers advertised. What appears to be a silly adult comedy starring talking food items on the surface is actually an interesting satirical work about human kind ( or in this case food kind's) relationship with God and the differences of races through allegorical but easily understood messages. The film explores how people can be easiliy mislead by people of higher authority to follow blind ignorance in the name of a deity who may or may not be real. In this case "God" is represented by the humans who eat the food as the food believe they are being taken into paradise only to realise too late that the humans are only using them to "power thier own strength". In fact the main villain of the film who is a littlral douche is a fantnatic who kills other food items for his personal game. There is even an interesting topic in regards to what it truly means to be clean and the film also doesn't shy away from diving into some controversial topics such as the conflict between Palestine and Israel. It doesn't dive in to the topics too much since it is a Seth Rogen kind of comedy filled with low brow humor (its best not to go in expecting "A Modest Proposal"). In fact the low point of the film is the humor itself. It does produce some laughs such as an indestructible piece of gum who resembles Stephen Hawking. The humor is not cringey by any means but it does suffer from making a few predictable jokes and relying on its novelty as an adult animated film but that novelty wears off pretty quickly. It might keep those who only sees animation as part of children's entertainment but it loses its shock value from someone who has seen many animes and adult animated films made for DVD movies. The film does have its humorous moments but I don't put it into as high of a pedestal like some fellow critics had. Expand

I went to watch it with an open mind knowing fully who made it so I knew it was not to be taken too seriously. Obviously created from many a session at the "bong" this movie is a real drug induced trip!

I laughed out loud a lot, both at what I was seeing for the first time and hearing throughout this film.
At times my mouth was agape in disbelief at the Food Shag-fest I was watching!

There will be haters, but there will also be many fans that will appreciate the tasty or tasteless of the Silly Antics, Sexual Innuendo and cheesy gags!
The only bit that concerned me was the guy injecting bath salts to get a buzz....there are some pretty dumb people out there who might just be tempted to give that a go...which would be STUPID.
Sausage Party's definitely not for the easily offended, overly religious punters or the racially delicate - But its a Cartoon for God's sake!
it's Just a refreshingly naughty, mindless piece of Crazy animation.... Don't get too hung up on playing judge and Jury .....You will never look at food again in the same way!

I was looking for something simple, stupid, and low-brow to just give me a laugh or two, just enough to keep me awake. I like Seth Rogan, so I choose Sausage Party, a film I'd never normally see, and while it had what I was looking for, surprisingly, it also had a lot more. I was expecting nothing but the typical drug and sex jokes, but in addition to that, there was a cleverness there that I wasn't expecting, the kind of thing you'd normally get from Family Guy. It's hard to say more without spoiling it, but one such element seen in the trailer and used through out the film, is the use of ethnic foods to represent the real life conflicts and stereotypes of the people associated with them. There are also plenty of food related jokes through out the film that seem so obvious for a movie like this, but you didn't think of them, and that's why Seth Rogan never has to pay for his weed.... The bottom line, I'm not saying this film is going to win any awards or that's it's going to become some huge cult classic or anything like that, just that it's far more clever, intelligent, and entertaining than I ever assumed it could be. You might be forced to see it because of yours kids, but you won't be as disappointed as you think. Expand

It sounds like it could have been pulled straight from a Disney animated movie. If that Disney animated movie was a full on, vulgar attack on religion. So yes, Sausage Party is much more than a parody of Pixar movies.

Normally that type of thing is annoying. However, in the case of Sausage Party it's easier to swallow thanks to the fact that it's completely hilarious and actually a fully fleshed out idea. The way it kind of mirrors Toy Story means that this feels like something that actually could have come from some kind of crude and raunchy version of Pixar. It's that much quality.

The humor may be as rude and nasty as humor can get, but this is more than just vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity. The jokes are clever and inventive enough to keep you laughing throughout. The concept was marvelously executed in a way that ensures for the maximum amount of laughs possible.

While perhaps a little too preachy, Sausage Party still manages to entertain. More than just a half-baked idea, Goldman, Rogen, and everybody involved turned this into something more than just a cheesy parody of Disney movies. It's an all out crazy animated flick for adults with plenty to offer in the way of genuine, gut-busting humor. 9.7/10

The movie makes use of our ravenous food culture and unorthodoxly uses the setting as a satire about the world's state of belief. The concept is executed in a manner analogous an extreme South Park episode. The use of food makes the irreverent humor all too easy at times, but Sausage Party manages to find shocking ways to keep the laughs coming. Point in case.. bath salts are used to explain the metaphysical separation of the anthropomorphic food and the "gods" who eat them. In this example, the writers are clearly making fun of the typically kid-friendly genre (ex. the Toys in Toy Story). The movie is definitely not for the easily offended (100% not for families/kids). I am already anticipating the number of complaints we will get at my theater. In short, the film is a step away from NC-17 and all the better for it. Expand

An uprising to liberate it the supermarket.

How many R rated animated films have you seen? This is not a hentai, but the Hollywood's rare animated-adult-comedy. Most of the big names are here, especially the young generation. The film took me by a surprise. I did not know when it was made and what its genre, but the posters made me very curious the with double meaning punchlines. It was a silly story, something like a parody of Pixar's 'Toy Story', but a very enjoyable film as it is a rare product.

If you check the last two decade's records, the animation films tore apart the live-action films in the box office clash. It is shocking, but the fact that animations make good revenue. This film is a trend setter in animation genre that targets the adult audience. Like Hollywood found its counterpart from the Japanese hentai. It just cost only $20 million to make and the production quality was not very standard, but acceptable. Hope there will be more like this in the future, but I would seek a sequel for this.

Seth Rogen was the main man behind this film. The rest of the cast too was good. Nothing but theirs voice lending made all the difference, especially you would know who were who, while a watch, that kind of familiar it was. The story of supermarket products from all the categories who fight for their freedom.

I really enjoyed, it was short too, as well as a fast narration with some good adult jokes. There are a couple of negatives about it, like the first one was there's no innovation in it, like it is very familiar, but a different kind of comedy. And the next one was all the characters, I mean the supermarket products are American. So if you are a non-American, nearly 90 per cent you won't get what those items are. The adults should watch this, because I don't know when you will get another one like this in the future. So I definitely favour it.

Right after you decide you're thoroughly disgusted by this animation, you start to scratch your head in sudden realization how everything adds up. Religion, sexuality, social structure - it's all eerily accurate and, to be honest, utterly depressing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While this not being the perfect film, it's currently my favorite R-rated movie. That is saying a lot because...I usually hate R-rated animated films. It's funny, sexual and weird. I love it. I think my favorite characters would have to be Frank, Barry and the one that tops both of them, sorbitol, maltitol, xylitol, mannitol, calcium, carbonite, soy lecithin, vegetable, triglyceride and talc...or, y'know...Gum. I also love it's excessive cast, a cast you'd expect to see in a Seth Rogen film, like Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, James Franco, Jonah Hill, what have you. I adore this film, but it's not the best animated film altogether. Expand

It does a great job at breaking down the irrationality of religion, but it also goes out of its way to tell atheists not to disrespect others' beliefs. In the end, it's a movie about unity, and it executes that extremely well.
The ending is actually super deep. You live your whole life thinking all this **** is real (society, religion, politics, culture), and when you realize you've just been brainwashed and lied to your entire life your ego dissolves and you just exist in pure ecstasy like a child. In the end gender didn't even matter anymore. So it became, quite literally, an orgy of life. As well as parodies of the Israel-Palestine conflict, homosexuality, etc. Anyone who dislikes this movie because it's "raunchy" or "disgusting" is just an uptight prick with no sense of humor.

I really, really like this movie alot. I'm a huge fan of animation as always but this one is not for children. Yes, I said it, it's animated but not for children. It has got something that you shouldn't show to your kids. You have to be a teenager and adult to watch it because it's got something raunchy in it that will offend other people and your children will be traumatized! It has some big cast who starred in this such as Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton and Salma Hayek and the rest just to name a few. They both star in many comedies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad, Pineapple Express and This Is the End. The story is well cleverly written and the characters look like something of the B&W Mickey Mouse cartoon. The black lines at the way the food uses arms and legs and Seth Rogen's character, Frank has gloves like Mickey Mouse use to wear. And ask for Kristen Wiig's character, Brenda, and yes, she has the mouth of a v****. Edward Norton is Sammy who is a bagel and he talks like Woody Allen. This lavash who I don't know who his name is but I'll find out when I watch it again. The douche who is an antagonist who wants to kill Frank. Oh, and by the way that's his name though, the Douche. That's his f**king name. I am not making this up! It gets grim at the third act but that's all I can tell you about it. I like the opening song where the food sings about the shop is opening and getting ready to be taken by humans known as the food would call them gods. I really like the Honey Mustard who is raging about the gods are the lies knowing that they will kill all of the food by eating. Sausage Party is an unbelievable comedy that will make you laugh, gag and leaving you p***ing your pants and drive by s**ting. It's thought-provoking story that will make you think you're watching a different movie, animation that is cartoony and gross-out humour that will make you s**t your pants. I know alot of people out there who really hate this movie but those are ones who are complaining are just arse****'s. In fact, what are you doing watching that movie? You're too young, go to your room! It's just something that you should't let your kids watch. It's definitely not recommended for everybody because of it's very strong language and sexual humour but I tell whenever I think about "F*** the haters and love the lovers" but those who are not a big fans of this couldn't give a f***ing hell about it. And also for being completely non-woke or politically correct in a time of overwhelming "wokeness" in most Hollywood movies and TV shows. A cartoon made for adults about adult topics with overt sexual metaphors, this is not a film for children to watch. My only criticism is that the swearing at the start was a bit much.

Also, some great themes hidden in it, showing how difficult it is to prove that something is horribly wrong with the world to people who naively just want to believe the world is just a happy and perfect place. And also a theme about putting our differences aside and working together with people from other cultures to achieve freedom.

Sausage Party is an adult, animated and comedy movie, and yeah, it was good, but if they just lowered the insults or the unnecessary sexual references it could have been a great R-rated animated movie!

The message of this movie is very clear and strong, and I liked it! But why every single minute and every-single-one is insulting the other for no reason? And why everyone is really insulting at the first place? No one, literally no one, was saying the F-word too much! That was actually unnecessarily!

The blood and the violence were actually gross, and again unnecessarily!

The movie is still great though and it was deserving an A, but when everyone turns to some sex-addict and everyone goes to f*** everyone else and it just turned into "sex, even if I'm not gay, but I just want to f*** everybody", I thought an A- would be nice for such a movie!

Actually, I have no comment about the story, or the voices or the animation, my problems are existing only because of how they over R-rated it! They could have made it R-rated, but without over-insulting,or over-sex-talking!

Anyways, Sausage Party is very bold and clear.
