The movie tries to be humorous and atmost times falls flat.
I kept getting the feeling that the writers wanted to try and be south park meets a pixar movie... and they just failed miserably.

I had no idea what this movie was about when I saw the posters appear. I eventually got a brief synopsis of the film. I thought it would be raunchy, but amusing. I rented it from my local library. In the world of Sausage Party all food itemsI had no idea what this movie was about when I saw the posters appear. I eventually got a brief synopsis of the film. I thought it would be raunchy, but amusing. I rented it from my local library. In the world of Sausage Party all food items are alive and can move around, humans just can't see them. THe grocery story items believe that when humans taken them home they go off into paradise. Frank is a good old fashioned hot dog that just wants to be taken home along with a pack of buns featuring his girlfriend Brenda. He wants to put his sausage all up in her bun. After a jar of honey mustard is returned to the store with insight into the real world (food gets eaten) there is an accident that spills Frank, Brenda, and other assorted food out into the store aisles. They try to navigate the store and along the way find out about the great beyond. Oh yeah and **** **** **** ****ity **** There are some interesting sight gags in the film and the animation is well done. Most of the jokes are beyond juvenile and you can see them coming from a mile away. I still enjoyed the first 75% of the movie though. Eventually I wondered how they would resolve the main issue (humans are eating food but the food is alive). They don't really, the movie just sort of goes off of the rails. I guess this is expected due to the absurd nature of the movie.

The food also really wants to get funky. There is a giant food orgy at the end. Food characters who are clearly designed to be same sex get it on. Group sex. Just lots of really raunchy stuff. Oh wow you have the two male(ish) Jewish and Arab foods who bickered all movie get down and have sex? Wow what an enlightened movie. The food orgy was funny for about 10 seconds but kept going and going and going. This was the hole point of the movie. Seth Rogan said "hmm how can I show food ****ing" and then the rest was built up from there. Blah.

Unsubtle and unashamed of it, this is consistently funny and rarely ineffective. If you can get through the opening song and the first scene or two you'll know if it's for you or not.

I had fairly high expectations of this offering from Rogen but, sadly, this was a premise with promise which simply didn't deliver. The satirical skewering of religious faith could have been brilliant, but the racism and complete, gleeful lack of finesse undermined what might have been an otherwise substantive commentary. My problem with this movie is that it just isn't very funny. In fact, the trailers are the best part of the movie and spoil most of the funny moments. Cussing in a movie never bothered me and some are actually better with it but this one actually goes over board to the point that it's kind of annoying. It's like the writers couldn't really think of any good jokes so they thought throwing in the F bomb in every piece of dialogue would cut it. And the sex themed jokes come off as a bit weird also. I'm sure I laughed a little at some scenes but nothing really stuck in my mind after viewing besides that totally messed up in a bad way ending. The only positives that I can think of is that the animation and voice acting are good. Other than that, this is a below average movie for me. I would not see it again. I recommend catching it on HBO or whatever premium channel it comes out on or maybe even a rental. Expand

This is one of the main things I was saying in a both good and bad way after seeing this film. This is one of those films that really rides the shock value of the film really hard with sometimes working to its favor and other times going either too far or shooting itself in the foot with comedy value. To get into this film you must understand that more than likely it will make fun of you in some way but also the fact that those who wrote the script were probably on alot of experimental mind altering drugs. The major problem for this film is that I don't know what to think of it either as a bold and daring move on adult animated films or as a gross cash in on simply trying to find out what is the most shocking thing they can throw up on screen and get away with. Though I will say I would recommend that you watch this film when it comes out on dvd just so you can say you have seen this crazy film because this film is honestly a one and done film. As an added note, the critics taht say this film is written clever or smart as a way to parody religion are incorrect as there isn't anything real clever or subtle about it and hits you over the head with it which is perhaps the biggest detriment to this film's premise. First and foremost, if you are easily offended in any way, shape, or form, do NOT see this movie! This film goes out of its way to offend as many people as it possibly can. I can’t think of a single group of people who aren’t targets of some kind of joke, stereotype, or just outright racist expression. Be strong of heart, ye who enter here.

Now for the most part, the movie isn’t that bad. The concept and story are interesting and creative, most certainly something original. The voice acting is actually spot on, not at all distracting and matching every character perfectly. The animation is really good, though, with a strange amount of detail being put into the characters despite the style being cartoonier. Unfortunately, the comedy is really lackluster. There are a few jokes that work (a particularly good one with a certain singer who shares his stage name with food), but most of those are in the trailer and the rest of them are based on the aforementioned racism in this movie.

For about the first two thirds of the film, if you can get past the incredibly offensive stereotypes, it’s an alright film. But towards the very end, pretty much the second to last scene of the film, it takes an insane sharp left turn into “what the f**k” territory. And unfortunately, the scene goes on far longer than it really should. It’s such a bizarre, out there scene that I don’t think anyone in the theater knew how to react to it. I won’t exactly say what it is, but I will say that the sexual innuendos and sexual talk in the film is blown out of the water and firmly secures this movie’s “R” rating.

This one scene completely flips the movie on its head. What was just an average comedy film was swiftly shoved into the realm of “DO NOT SEE IN THEATERS” in a matter of moments. Wait until this movie comes out on Redbox, and watch it ALONE to decide whether or not it’s something you really want anyone else to see.

This film is a weak attempt at edgy humor and social commentary that just comes off like a living room full of bro-tastic frat jokes. Watching this film it felt like someone forgot to tell the writers that the use of the f-bomb in and of itself is not funny. I maybe laughed 4 times during this entire film. I went in expecting something on the lines of Team America. But instead got a bad CollegeHumor student film. The film's attempt at an anti-religion social commentary is about as subtle as a brick through your windshield. Racial stereotypes and characterizations abound without any of the true craft of self exploration through humor.

South Park, Family Guy, and the Ted films do this kind of thing so much better.

This movie is garbage. Don't see it, or better yet watch a bootleg; because that's all this movie is worth.

On paper this must have seemed like a sure fire hit. A crude and politically incorrect toon about food stuffs misguidedly dreaming of a better life outside of the super market shelves. Unfortunately, the execution leaves a lot to be desiredOn paper this must have seemed like a sure fire hit. A crude and politically incorrect toon about food stuffs misguidedly dreaming of a better life outside of the super market shelves. Unfortunately, the execution leaves a lot to be desired and the bad taste jokes remain just that with the lack of laughs exacerbating the true offensive nature of the material, which possibly has something to offend almost everyone. There is a certain irony to be had from the fact that the film, aimed squarely at the adult market, is more juvenile in concept and writing than ‘Finding’ Dory’ or ‘Zootopia’, both of which are intelligently written, imaginative and truly funny. For most of its running time ‘Sausage Party’ flounders without inspiration in a desperately hysterical manner. A couple of gags raise a grudging smile and there is one very good sequence where the different sausages and veg discover their fates in a suburban kitchen. Other attempts at humour, however, involving a lesbian taco, a Stephen Hawking inspired bubble gum and a Middle Eastern pitta bread all fail miserably. Where the film does succeed though is in underlining the low level of humour to which the whole enterprise aspires. Expand

Being a raunchy comedy as a parody of Pixar movies I understand that. This movie is still constantly cussing non stop to where it becomes distracting because of how much they cuss every other sentence. It makes the dialogue a lot less good for my tastes when it keeps on doing this over and over. The racist stereotypes could be funny, if the joke with them as less about, "Look it's funny because we're being super racist in an animated movie" I've seen and love South Park. South Park does something with the fact they use stereotypes without the joke literally just being, "laugh because it is a stereotype."

The movie is relying too much on the concept that it is an R rated animated movie to push beyond that. I wish I liked this movie, but it just fell flat and stopped being funny when the running joke got old.

This movie is nothing more than a cheap excuse to use crude, sexist humor to appeal to the lowest common denominator- including stoners and college guys. It is NOT worth the price of admission.

The plot was boring and unoriginal, the anti-religious theme was so blatant and repetitive that I honestly have a genuine dislike for almost every actor now, and the content was so crude and void of humor that I can actually count the number of times I laughed at this film on one hand. Though I tend to think of myself having a dark/edgy sense of humor, this waste of 89 minutes showed me that some peoples' sense of humor isn't actually humorous, it's just a culmination of random and sick narcotic-fueled ideas.

Coming from someone that actually enjoys watching South Park, Family Guy, and listening to Daniel Tosh's stand-up comedy, as well as not even being phased by the elephant scene in the 'Brothers Grimsby', DO NOT SEE THIS FILM. It is so vile and disgusting and profane that I honestly would rather drive railroad spikes through my crotch than waste another second watching this piece of garbage film.

It effectively hits its target audience and doesn't hold back in its vision whatsoever, but I was still left with the feeling that such an interesting concept could have been utilised to a more consistently interesting and exciting effect. The profanity misses the mark many times because its too nonchalant; the f-bombs are so non-stop that they might lose their thrilling potency too quickly for some viewers. I feel like the inevitable sequel will be a vast improvement and get most of the issues the film has right, particularly in the animation department

Whoever approved this script, whoever approved the execution of this movie being made, should be sacked, his office burned to the ground and have all creative ability or control completely taken away from them. This is shockingly bad for a movie. So shockingly bad that I don't even know how to rate it, so I'm refusing to give it anything beyond the lowest rating available. This is so insulting on a comedy level, so utterly despicable, so utterly offensive, and so ultimately FORGETTABLE that I fully support any argument claiming mental damage from viewing it. Can't even fathom why this exists, its that bizarre. The film might have worked, had "Food Fight" never existed, or "Toy Story" never existed, but it still would've been hailed as some of the worst animated garbage ever created by human kind. I'm literally embarrassed for the people that were involved in this film. I hope they're parents are proud of them. Expand

If youre looking for a movie thats amusing but not really as funny or even as hilarious as movies like Neighbors and Neighbors 2 then definitely go see this movie. But in terms of the usual films youd expect from Seth Rogan, this isn't good comedy. Expand

Anyone who finds this movie to be intellectual or thinks its commentary on religion is "deep" seriously has to lay down whatever substance they are on and actually read the history of religion.

In terms of quality, this movie looks like the project of wealthy teens from the Hamptons tasked with making an animated movie on (new) atheism mixed with juvenile humour. The jokes in the movie are plain not funny and just made me cringe throughout the entire movie time. The humour is largely based on less than subtle dick jokes that one would hear in high school emanating from the class clown. I really find it amusing that grown adult film makers wrote and produced this "comedy" movie.

Overall, I would not recommend buying a ticket at full price at the theater to watch this "comedy", just wait till it is on Redbox and rent it for a day or two. Trust me, there is really nothing to see here.

There are different types of comedy some people are into, and different types of horror that some people are into. There are different audiences for each of these genres, and you must figure out why you like one thing and dislike another.

With 'Sausage Party', this is a Seth Rogen comedy disguised as some animated, almost Pixar-like type film. Imagine if Pixar made a movie with the premise "What if food had feelings?", but with Seth Rogen's crude and vulgar humor taking up most of the plot. There's a reason Pixar didn't make a movie with food as the main characters, because in Seth Rogen's words... "It would be f---ed up".

'Sausage Party' focuses on a hot-dog named Frank (voiced by Seth Rogen) who is on sale in a store along with his other hot-dog friends; Carl (Jonah Hill) and Barry (Michael Cera). He becomes infatuated with a bun named Brenda (Kristen Wiig), and the two of them believe, like all the other items on sale, that they will go to "The Great Beyond" when the humans, who are like gods to them, purchase them and take them home.

What they don't realize, however, is that "The Great Beyond" isn't quite as uplifting or magical as they would like to think. Honey Mustard (Danny McBride) tries to warn all the other items, after being returned to the store, that humans devour them in horrific looking ways, from their point of view at least, but nobody seems to believe him. Frank and Brenda do get chosen together by a customer, but somehow managed to get separated from the rest of the purchased items, and are stuck in the store until the next day, in the mean time, they must try and package themselves again and hopefully wait until another customer can buy them together.

There are a lot of funny scenes in this movie, most of the comedy does rely on shock-value, which is typical when it comes to Seth Rogen. There are a lot of "F" words being said by many characters many times, so much so to the point where your ears do get used to it, and the hilarious style of the "F" word can get a little boring and repetitive to listen to. The crude and over-use of sexual related jokes are also very funny and shocking, even more shocking towards the end which I will not spoil, but it does get a little too far-fetched. There is even your typical drug humor where we see many characters inhaling or consuming drugs and getting high all the time.

This movie does everything it can to earn its R-rating and uses almost every content that would get it there, when just the occasional "F" word being said here and there, and just crude sexual remarks would have been enough.

I admired the creativity behind this movie, I liked how the store was pretty much a whole world to these items and that the aisles were basically forms of neighborhood where these items live until they are purchased. The movie did make me laugh a lot (even at times when I should have known better), and it will do well to hold one's interest. Whether or not you get used to or sick of these jokes quickly can be a problem. There were times where I was thinking "This movie is rated R... I get it!"... but it is a whole lot of fun.

Maybe Rogen should tone it down next time, but this is one of the funniest movies of the year.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yeah, everyone has their opinions but it's hard for me to wrap my head around this one. It's a comedy based upon shock value and cursing, and just over-the-top stuff. Rape, minors having sex (in the orgy at the end, there are literally two minors having sex, unless i'm mistaken about their ages), and other things. I just genuinely don't see that funny, nor can I comprehend how people can find that funny - besides from the fact that it's so outrageous. It made me feel uncomfortable, and the message that the movie was trying to spread seemed simple and forced as hell. This is genuinely the first time in my movie viewing history where I just can't comprehend the humor in it, and I hate that I feel this way. Expand

But anyway this was undeniably a very funny film, maybe not quite as funny as I was hoping for admittedly and Rogen's style of humor feels all too present throughout most the film so it can't help but feel a little too familiar and not quite as fresh. Nonetheless, his humor is unique and and it's what's made him so funny in the first place, so I can't really deny or turn away from it either. The appeal for this is that it's an R- rated animated film with the feel and story of a Pixar film. As you know, even though animation is an art form, you'd think this is a kid's genre. Pretty much every animated film released is a PG- kid friendly film. There are adult animated films, like the recent Anomalisa or Japanese Anime, but they never get wide releases. Now this is not to say that all these kid- friendly animations are bad. Recent films such as Finding Dory, Zootopia, and The Secret Life of Pets all show that you can tell a fine story that appeals to anyone of any age, despite that PG rating. Even G- rated Pixar/ Disney films can tell great stories for all ages. Nonetheless, having a R- rated wide release is quite rare.

The story of Sausage Party basically uses the Pixar formula, complete with social commentary. Think Toy Story, but with food. There are allegories and stereotypes for every single race of people from the Israeli- Palestinian conflict to illegal "Mexican" food. These themes are shown in a very not- so- subtle way, unlike Pixar. There's even a joke in here that takes a direct jab at Pixar. The main theme here is whether to believe in God or not. Rather surprisingly, this topic is presented in a nuanced manner that shows the pros and cons of believing in a religion. This intelligence makes the story very smart and improves the overall film. Not to mention a good song at the start from the guy that did the music for Beauty & The Beast

Now if you think that this seems unusual for a Seth Rogen movie, than that's where the R- rating comes in. There is constant cursing, violence, drugs, and many sex scenes. There is the shock value of seeing all this raunch, but after a while it gets old and there's too much of it. The animation is decent considering the low budget, but the designs are rather lackluster. The characters are fun to watch, but they don't convey any emotion. There are a few laugh- out- loud moments, but a lot of jokes fall flat. This satirical movie won't make you guilty of eating food, but the ending is insanely cool. All in all, Sausage Party is forgettable, not as funny as it should have been, and the raunchiness goes a bit too far. However, fun characters and a very intelligent, Pixar- esque story make Sausage Party simply a fun time at the movies.

If you think R-rated comedies have become too formulaic or safe in recent years, this movie is for you. Be warned though in that this film's strengths lie squarely outside its fairly predictable plot mechanics.

Much like Deadpool did to the comic book genre earlier this year, Sausage Party takes aim at the animation genre, finally making an animation for adults. Sausage Party is as funny as it is clever, gleefully filled with profanity, but is also surprisingly thought provoking. Sausage Party never quite reaches the level of quality, of that which it pokes fun at, but does manage to do everything it set out to do.
Watching this film it’s incredible the ensemble cast that Seth Rogen was able to gather for this film, featuring James Franco, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Edward Norton, Salma Hayek, and so many more. The plot of this film is actually a fairly entertaining one, but the real strength of the film is it’s humor. That isn’t surprising, considering the group behind it, but the film in essence jumps from one joke to another never leaving a dull moment. The main reason that the film is so funny is that the film is clever in how it pokes fun at the world of food.
Another reason that the film is so funny is that instead of trying to be politically correct, the film almost revels in it’s ability to insult whoever it can. Animation has, over the years, proven to be a genre mostly directed at kids, besides a few exceptions (South Park, Family Guy, the Simpsons.) That being said the use of excessive profanity within that genre is so rare that it often elevates a raunchy animated comedy. Seeing a bunch of talking hot dogs, and buns that are animated to look like sexual images, and then swear non-stop ends up being one of the funnier elements of the film.
It seems surprising that Pixar didn’t beat Sausage Party to this story though, because it could’ve been an even better Pixar film. By that I mean that the story of this film is actually quite clever and thought provoking, when you say to yourself, what food think if it could talk. The plot is not as focused as a Pixar film and the characters are not as emotionally involving, so Sausage Party feels more like a cheaper, raunchy Pixar film. However, this film does manage to attack a fairly thought provoking and deep storyline.
In the end, Sausage Party is a really good and often entertaining spoof of the animation genre for adults above a certain age, and of a certain mindset. The film tries to remain clear of racism, simply by insulting every group of people, without prejudice, we’ll see if that method works. The film is clever, funny, thought provoking, and gleefully profane. It should be stated that not everybody will enjoy this movie, but that’s partially the point.

It was so profane that I felt they were trying to set a record for the most number of times the "F" word was used in a film. You will hear every cuss word in the book many times. I chuckled a lot throughout the film, but really can't remember many laugh out loud moments. The theater I was in was fairly full and it was quiet most of the time. Although it really wasn't good enough for me to recommend I have to give it points for being politically incorrect. Expand

The dialogue couldn't have had more F-bombs, other senseless cursing, and sexual innuendos if it had have been written by people with extreme cases of Tourette Syndrome. Just cursing for the sake of cursing isn't funny. Nor are cheap childish sexual references. Grow up. I guess many Americans think this is funny hence the positive reviews. If you have the intellect and maturity of a semi-educated and thoughtful adult, I would skip this and save your money. I wish I. Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill -- you owe me. Expand

The promotion for this film has been disgraceful. Kids want to see it, and they'll probably be allowed to because the trailers on TV in no way represent the final product.

What"Sausage Party" consists of mos of the tropes you would get out of a Seth Rogen comedy. There are plenty of crude jokes to keep Rogen's target audience howling with laughter but it also goes a little beyond what the trailers advertised. What appears to be a silly adult comedy starring talking food items on the surface is actually an interesting satirical work about human kind ( or in this case food kind's) relationship with God and the differences of races through allegorical but easily understood messages. The film explores how people can be easiliy mislead by people of higher authority to follow blind ignorance in the name of a deity who may or may not be real. In this case "God" is represented by the humans who eat the food as the food believe they are being taken into paradise only to realise too late that the humans are only using them to "power thier own strength". In fact the main villain of the film who is a littlral douche is a fantnatic who kills other food items for his personal game. There is even an interesting topic in regards to what it truly means to be clean and the film also doesn't shy away from diving into some controversial topics such as the conflict between Palestine and Israel. It doesn't dive in to the topics too much since it is a Seth Rogen kind of comedy filled with low brow humor (its best not to go in expecting "A Modest Proposal"). In fact the low point of the film is the humor itself. It does produce some laughs such as an indestructible piece of gum who resembles Stephen Hawking. The humor is not cringey by any means but it does suffer from making a few predictable jokes and relying on its novelty as an adult animated film but that novelty wears off pretty quickly. It might keep those who only sees animation as part of children's entertainment but it loses its shock value from someone who has seen many animes and adult animated films made for DVD movies. The film does have its humorous moments but I don't put it into as high of a pedestal like some fellow critics had. Expand

The tale of a hot dog discovering the truth surrounding his fate, Sausage Party turns into an excuse for SethVulgar, immature, and beyond our current definition of stupidity, Sausage Party is a film that actually has an interesting concept. The tale of a hot dog discovering the truth surrounding his fate, Sausage Party turns into an excuse for Seth Rogen and company to thump their atheist chests at believers, while also making food puns and exclusively using toilet humor. Lowering the bar on the lowest common denominator in cinema, Sausage Party is actually worse than Deadpool. Why? Well, I liked Ryan Reynolds. Here, there are very few redeemable elements. A few food puns worked, but were hardly substantive. However, even if I was enjoying this film with humor that can solely be found in middle school classrooms, the food orgy at the end would have ruined that enjoyment. This idiotic and insipid slice of garbage cinema should honestly cause shame for those who wrote this film, for even thinking that this dialogue worked.

Ignoring the fact that no joke lands, the film makes repeated sex, poop, genital, and racist jokes throughout. Yet, as it does offend everybody, the racist element does not bother me. The other parts, however, were just so easy. It is a real shame that this film is rated-R because then nobody under 18 could see this in theaters without a parent. If the audience were just 11-year olds, Sausage Party would be hailed all over as the best film since like ever. Maybe the best since Deadpool or Kingsman. However, just like those other edgy, low-brow humor films that indulge far too greatly in the sexual comedy fantasies of young boys, Sausage Party is never funny, nor is it ever enjoyable. With a disposable plot, a conclusion that makes no sense, and a gum Stephen Hawking being hailed as the one to bring reason to the world ("F*** YOU CHRISTIANS!"), Sausage Party really outdoes itself to be nothing but fleeting entertainment. Not much will last from this film as its disposable plot does nothing to save its horrific sense of humor.

The tragedy here, however, is that the film wastes Edward Norton doing his best Woody Allen impression. If there was ever a good thing to come out of this, it would be for Edward Norton to simply play the Woody Allen character in a Woody Allen movie. He may have done this already (I know he's worked with Allen before), but it needs to be done anyways. What is an even more egregious tragedy here, however, is the film's treatment of women. With all female characters sexed up to the point that the camera literally just zooms in on their ass and vaginas, Sausage Party is the embodiment of the male gaze and the theories presented by Laura Mulvey. Even worse, the film posits the only purpose for women in the film is to be subservient to men with their only drive being their desire for a penis. This is straight out of Mulvey's beliefs regarding the role of women in film and this abhorrent piece of work truly goes out of its way to fulfill all elements.

With a reliance on sexual visual gags and food puns, Sausage Party is never fun and deserves to be cast into the fires of hell for all of eternity. Somehow, it is not the worst film of the year though, if only for the Saving Private Ryan references, the queso joke, and Edward Norton. Oh the torture.

Raw in its honesty, deliberately politically incorrect and un-apologetically crass this movie is a bit of a shocker! Personally I really enjoyed it!
I went to watch it with an open mind knowing fully who made it so I knew it was not to be taken too seriously. Obviously created from many a session at the "bong" this movie is a real drug induced trip!

I laughed out loud a lot, both at what I was seeing for the first time and hearing throughout this film.
At times my mouth was agape in disbelief at the Food Shag-fest I was watching!

There will be haters, but there will also be many fans that will appreciate the tasty or tasteless of the Silly Antics, Sexual Innuendo and cheesy gags!
The only bit that concerned me was the guy injecting bath salts to get a buzz....there are some pretty dumb people out there who might just be tempted to give that a go...which would be STUPID.
Sausage Party's definitely not for the easily offended, overly religious punters or the racially delicate - But its a Cartoon for God's sake!
it's Just a refreshingly naughty, mindless piece of Crazy animation.... Don't get too hung up on playing judge and Jury .....You will never look at food again in the same way!

The animation here, though still kind-of subpar, is nothing to scoff at. In fact, it purposely helps this comedy work so well. As far as I know, this is one of Hollywood's best attempts at comedy this year. Furthermore, it's view on fate and God is refreshing to witness. Unfortunately, this movie is weighed down by substance faults.
While it succeeds in the entertainment department, the characters aren't that great. They start developing late in the narrative, and even then, their development is dropped to make way for a series of events that Hollywood knows how to put together just fine, but they neglect character in the process. It is also worth reminding that I am not a big fan of raunchy comedy, as like found footage, it serves as gimmick. too much of it leaves the film hollow. Like I said before, it is funny and sometimes hilarious and jaw-dropping, but this film was too raunchy to support character development.
Certainly check it out if you can take the experience, but don't expect me to watch it again. I will grant it a seal of mediocrity.
