There is no department where this movie is less then superb. Starting with haunting interior, make-up and characters soon on the shoulders of furiosa it enters into a new direction of astonishing graphics, story and deadly action which not only drop your jaw but make you forget to breath. Action sequence are as amazing as never before. Acting from top to bottom is to be praised and from top I mean Theron. Though named as Mad Max, but this is Furiosa's story and movie belongs to Charlize Theron. She gives another Oscar worthy performance. Tom hardy is good in his role and portrays the complication character needs. Nicholas hault is good too. Who really surprised was Rosie Hutington whiteley, she might have given her best to the screen.
In the end the real crown goes to George Miller who brought this unique thrilling adventure to the screen.

This is how action films should be, not high emotion drama bullsh*t. Sometimes, you just wanna see a guy with a guitar on top of a monster truck shoot flames out of the neck. And that was in this film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Admittedly late to the game here, but I honestly can't see where all these 10s and 100s come from. At 70, I guess George had one more Mad Max episode left in home, but this was nothing more than a an utterly incomprehensible wild romp. Fury Road is nothing more than a video game brought to the screen with its threadbare plot, not to mention clothing on our five fetching damsels in distress, on which the plot loosely hinges like their chastity belts. What little story there is might be seen as poetic in a post-apocalyptic sort of way. I have to hand it to Charlize Theron for trying to rise above the horribly malevolent nature of this film and give us some sense of hope in the arid violent future George Miller imagines. However, even she couldn't save this film from itself. There were some moments of dark humor, such as the aging biker chic gang, the last to hold onto the seeds of a Utopian dreamworld. The only suspense was whether this green world still existed, but apparently the only thing left was one desolate tree that didn't look strong enough to pull a dune buggy much less a war rig out of the quagmire. I guess it had very deep roots. It's just an inglorious ride through the Australian outback with some wild-eyed visual effects along the way, as if George has been dabbling in magic mushrooms. It's fun to a point, but the sad part is you really don't care what happens to anyone in this movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie has some of the most amazing action sequences i have seen in a movie (period), it's mostly practical effects which is awesome, the stunts are great, the explosions are real...but sadly the writing is GARBAGE..The story is basicaly let's go from point A to point B and then from point B to point A again. Of course if you don't mind the mediocre writing you will fully enjoy this movie, otherwise it's just a 2 hour driving destruction porn but truly masterfully made from the original creator of the series. :) Expand

Having never seen a single film in the Mad Max series I was hesitant to watch it: especially considering today’s hyper commercialized, over exposure trend practiced in the marketing of new releases, especially action films. After months of avoiding the film, I finally used this essay prompt as an excuse to see it on New Year’s Day; I was pleasantly surprised. Writing a cinematic review for readers within the world’s leading institution for film studies is daunting for even the best trained. Hopefully this neophyte attempt at sharing my impressions will hold your interest. Here goes!
After a long absence of viewing Miller’s work I was immediately taken by the depth and breath of creativity that could only stream from a pleasantly, twisted mind. (This is meant as a complement!) He brings to life an array of themes visually and emotionally that have turned even this mostly critical and disappointed fan of today’s action films into a Miller fan. He brilliantly blends the exotic with the mundane, the chaotic with the calm, brutality with grace. Within moments I became completely immersed in his vision of the post-apocalyptic world: actually feeling hope emerge as the madness of brutality unfolded. There was not a moment in the film where I felt disconnected from the viewing experience. He drew me completely into the world. Once there, I simply floated away into the story. Miller held my focus one hundred percent of the time. This immersion was accomplished through the brilliance of Miller’s direction, the creativity of his story telling and his interesting use of specific production techniques.
First thing I noticed was the personality of the desert and how its changing mood both enhanced and drove the story forward. Most of the time the desert sands were a vibrant orange, instead of a dull tan or muted brown, off set against a unique sky. Robin egg blue sky, less green, more toward orange on the color spectrum, created a sense of harmony, peace, unity whenever it was matched with the sands. I believe Miller purposefully chose this coloring to create a slightly under-stimulating canvas upon which the viewer’s attention would focus on the intricacies of the action. This particular tone and hue of blue is incredibly peaceful and inviting, bringing a sense of hopefulness, almost cheerfulness, to the experience of the drama, thereby subconsciously reinforcing themes of hope and redemption. This is especially noticeable when Max first encounters the escaped brides as they stand on the sands, clothed in soaking wet free flowing cream linen, silhouetted against this robin egg sky.
Another major mood change in the desert was created with an enormous sand storm. The blue sky was literally rolled over lost when a giant wave of sand. Initially we see the wave as a blend of common desert colors: goat’s cream, turmeric and cow dung. However, as the wave descends over the chase, obscuring the sight of the characters, it transforms into a passionate, dense red that increases the emotional experience of the segment. Red as an overriding color of the segment signifies blood being literary and figuratively spilt.
Perhaps the most definitive mood change was when the desert was completely filtered in blue for a night scene. Blue is often associated with sorrow which is the sadness that the world has. The blue tint is a visual representation of the sorrow of all of the victims and the morning of world who used to be full of life. The first use of the blue tint was when our heroes traveled to the “Green Place”. It was devoid of life when it used to be plentiful. The blue shows how the word morns for the loss of the little life that was still there.
Miller dress certain characters in white to have a play on the concept of purity. The War Boys are covered in white ashes to give themselves a sense of holiness. As a combination of all colors, White is meant to bring a sense of holiness which is ironic considering the war boy’s unholy actions. The brides also are dressed in white to give reinforce the role they play in their society. The irony is taken affect as the color associated with virginity even though they exist solely to make more war boys.
As Well as any other film, the cinematography and the editing are important tools for a filmmaker to visually tell the story. The editing in the beginning is sped-up to reflect the insanity of the title character. In the beginning of the film, Max has lost his ability to reason and acts purely on instinct. The lack of organized thoughts shows he is acting on his animalistic tendencies. The editing eventually slows down as Max regains his sanity after he successfully rescues Furiosa and the brides.
The film uses a wide selection of wide angle close-ups which work to set the mood. It makes the viewer stare at the dark side of the apocalypse right in the face with no chance to escape. The scenes in the dessert rely on after the use of wide shots to show the size and emptiness of the world left after nuclear war.

Seriously I was on the edge of my seat. The formula for the movie is taking and then fighting, but good news it doesn't go down the MK: Annihilation route. It's pretty good and it one of my top five fav movies. George Miller has made a great movie and I can't understand why some people hate it. I respect all opinions no matter what, but I can't grasp on how many negative reviews are on here. I recommend this movie to anyone, no matter if you have seen the original Mad Max trilogy or not. Now the only stupid part is where Max has to give *spoiler* a blood transfusion. That is a terrible idea unless you have the same blood type, and chances of that are next to nothing. It's a great movie with one stupid thing. Expand

I love Mad Max, Road Warrior and even Beyond Thunderdome. So when the perpetually delayed Fury Road finally released, you bet your ass I went to see it, and I was rewarded with probably the best damn action movie I've ever seen. It's not just well written, acted or scored, It's simultaneously a testosterone-fueled explosive extravaganza and the ultimate feminist power fantasy. Max is not the main character here. He is, as he always was, a drifter. This movie is about Furiosa, and the wives, taking hold of their destiny by the balls and riding it to flaming victory. I came for the cars and the violence, I'll admit. But I must watch like fifty action movies a year and I honestly forget 49 of them. Fury Road is the one I remember. Expand

The scenario is set mysteriously with the protagonist hunted by his past, making the movie very promising, when he arrives to the city it’s presented the context of this post-apocalyptic world ruled by a tyrant; however when they get to the road the whole thing falls apart. The plot is meaningless, simple and at one point becomes incoherent; the worst thing is that George Miller tries to hide it with an opulent artillery of explosions. It’s true that action cinema is all about that, but what makes an action movie stand out from the rest is the thing that sustains the significance of the explosions and fights. Mad Max is indisputably a technical achievement, highlighting the make-up; this and Charlize Theron are definitely the only good items in the feature. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A late review now that all the ludicrous praise has subsided. As a preliminary, I watched all the previous Mad Max movies again. At one point in my youth, I thought The Road Warrior was one of the best films ever but wow; these movies did not age well at all. Fury Road is in general an improvement, but when you get down to it, the cars do most of the acting. The music is a massive improvement over Brian May's and Maurice Jarre's crimes against musical humanity, but Tom Hardy has about as much charisma as a turnip. As a straight-up action film, it's watchable and holds interest, and is certainly better than the anschluss of super-hero movies currently stinking up the marquees with no sign of relief. The amount of high praise heaped on this movie however is baffling.

Just as aside, there have been some complaints that Fury Road caters to Political Correctness with its emphasis on the ass-kicking chick and the oppression of the "breeders" by men. I'm as down on SocJus gibberish as any sensible person is, but in this flick it is not really noticeable. At a critical point, Max persuades the group to turn back and fight. Letting the white, heterosexual male make such a plot-turning suggestion is a big no-no among the perpetually aggrieved so if you want I-am-woman-hear-me-roar stuff, try the Alien series.

The film has what i would consider to be one of the most overrated story lines of all time. Most of the characters are never fully developed, and this includes the Main Lead. If the main character was not the titular Max you would have absolutely no reason to care about him. Furiosa is developed the most out of all the characters in fact she hijacks the story so often I started to think this was just a movie they threw max in to. Honestly I found the story ultimately boring and a standard predictable ride for a traditional good vs. evil flick. Does this mean you shouldn't watch the film, No, it still remains to have incredible set pieces and very entertaining events spring throughout despite the lackluster Characters and plot. Expand

Pure Action! Modern day action director should be ashamed of themselves. The only problem for me is - the movie is a bit noisy. I will say this. Bigger screen, better experience. Oh man! love that guitar man scene.
(P.S - it's an R rated movie)

At first I thought this was just going to be sensory overload and all the explosions were going to make for an empty TNT-fest. But nope, despite there being explosions aplenty none of it wore down the movie or the movie-goers. So far, my top pick for best movie of 2015.

That's fine but don't hate because you simply don't understand it. The style is unique, the characters are even more unique, and the setting are down right unique. A place of only sand, water, sky, and some dirt; coins be this interesting is beyond me. Also above my pay grade which is nothing.
The movie is supposed to be set during the first and second one. Though it's crazier than any Mad Max before. This is the movie that Miller would have made first if he had the same visual effects back then. It's like a acid trip gone right. Car chases, hi octane cars, and a visual effects so that has been lost over the ages.
Practical effects over visual effects make MM the best movie of the year. The story keeps you engaged. If you loved the road warrior, then you'll love this too. The road warrior is slightly better because of it being a timeless classic but this does it justice. A movie that will have you on the edge of your sit but you will be wanting to let go and join the ride.
Again this movie isn't for people without the ability to comprehend it or those who simply don't understand. Though don't go watch it. For those fans of the original and of people who just love quality movies. Go watch it. Overall it's an awesome chapter into the amazing world of MM and will satisfy those who can appreciate an old movie in a new movie era. 9.5/10

George Miller delivers a spectacle that both fanboys and general moviegoers have been waiting for for 30 years, and it's an exhilarating experience that more than delivers. Every aspect from the cinematography to the practical effects to the special effects to the acting and to the directing are all worthy of praise for making its mark as one of the best films of 2015, and quite possibly one of the best films of the decade. The film ingeniously blends a post-apocalyptic drama that is driven along by its stunning visuals and never-ending action sequences to bring to life an epic story that is impressive on every level. The director had successfully modernized his own franchise that has proved to withstand time and create a compelling installment that is deserving of the long hiatus of the franchise. Mad Max: Fury Road is, with a shred of doubt, a kick-ass movie. Expand

The landscape is bleaker and the action is more pumped. Tom Hardy & Charlize Theron play rebels who are trying to escape the evil overlords, or at least outrun them, but forget story and dialogue: This is all about spectacular stunts, incredible art direction and furious action. The relentless pace and virtually non-stop clashes are sometimes so hectic that it's hard to figure out what's happening. The thick accents and noisy sound sometime make the dialogue a challenge, but it doesn't really matter. The massive soundtrack by Junkie XL adds another level of intensity. This film is inventive in the extreme and dizzying in it's bravura direction. Expand

Color me bonkers, sure the dialogue is scant, Hardy never really breaks out but still can put on a good fight. There a couple of other weakness and yes the hype machine is in full force so there are going to be those that will come away disappointed or does not meet their engrained idea of what a perfect movie should be. This is not a perfect movie...it is though the perfect Mad Max movie and its everything that I had hoped for. Real action, crazy stunts, a lunatic hellish world, memorable characters, and even more surprising a touching score that accents the action to its dizzying heights but also quite moving in the quiet moments. Yes the movie does belong to Furiosa..so get used it..she belongs with the other greats such as Ripley and Sarah Connors (T2 Sarah). This is action er that offers something different than the what we have been used to, mainly CGI superhero slugfests..and I still enjoy those, but there is something deeply primal that is missing from those movies and this movie is the definition of primal action at its best. It really is this simple: Mad Max: Fury Road is about as pure an action film as you will ever get.

The simplicity does not end there as the world of Mad Max is a world where actions speak louder than words and to slow down means to die. Based upon these traits of the film, the essence is in those actions. In this day and age of movies filled with excessive dialogue and needless commentary and filler, it is refreshing to see a movie that focuses on the action not the words. Pure action movie! As a result the cinematography comes into play as well and the film is beautifully shot! Colors explode on the screen and crash sequences are given the same treatment as a Sam Peckinpah death scene: Slow motion ballet of destruction and death. The script might be light on dialogue, but this means there must be an economy of language and as such it must continually say something and reveal something and it does. Miller does not offer explanations for things. We must fill in the blanks. As a result this simple plot becomes more complex as we supply interpretation. This can make many people feel uneasy. Yes, I said it, this film is more cerebral than the negative critics are making it. This complexity lies in the details weather it be the writing on the wall declaring that people are not things to be owned or the alter where War Boys pray before doing Joe's dirty work or the message of hope and the futile realization that in this wasteland hope is indeed a mistake. Even when the film comes to an end, there is no true indicator that everyone will "make it out" but they now have a fighting chance. But it is not the ending that matters the most, but what happens from opening to ending. In this world movement is life and survival and vibrancy. We see a myriad of cinematic tropes manifest: false hope, religion as control, mobility versus immobility, gender roles and the confusion between them, these are just a few. When I watched the film I didn't want to be analytical. I saved that for afterward and to my surprise there are significant elements open to critical analysis.

The final analysis however is that the film should be watched by anyone wishing to see a well made action film that grips you from start to finish and to be honest... this has not been the case for many films of the past decade.

No movie has been made like this, with so much energy, chaos and excitement. The movie has a great set-up, with the main villain Immortan Joe being one of the craziest villians in the past few years. Max himself is quite and subtle, but like everyone else in the wasteland is a bit mad and unpredictable. The main plot has a great premise, if a bit flimsy and sort of falls apart with plot holes near the end, but has a mature theme. The movie is filled with interesting and bizarre characters. One thing that I found was interesting is that max doesn't really seem to be the main character, although he is a lead. The main character seems like Furiosa, the female lead. Most of the movie revolves around her actions, shes acted and portrayed perfectly. Furiosa is one of the best female character leads of all time. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty and takes the punishment of her actions and from others really well and always seems to come on top in the long run. The Next most interesting characters are Nux, Immortan joe and max.

Another thing I have the mention are the cars. The cars in this movie are F**king nuts. Each one seems to have its own personality of what it represents and who drives it. The effects in this movie are mostly real. Real explosions, real cars and props( yes the guy in the trailer with the flaming guitar was real). Surprisingly little cgi or green screen effects, with is what makes this movie so damn good is that everything looks real because it is real.

Overrall, this is a movie you have to experience for yourself. Its not something that can really be watched on a T.V or a Iphone. Unless you got a home theater with surround sound you HAVE to go see it in theaters.

The pacingSerenely orchestrated and crafted, Mad Max is a masterpiece wrapped up (albeit quite brutally) in the apocalyptic wasteland of Australia. Epic and unexpectedly moving, the film is a thrill and a spectacle from beginning to finish. The pacing of the film was brilliant with every break a much needed affair following what has got to be some of the most amazing set piece stunts one have ever seen on the big screen.
Although we will generally remember Mad Max as an action masterpiece, it was the quieter times that this film really strikes a chord for audiences to care for its surprisingly engaging characters. The backdrop of the desolate landscape provides some of the best wide angle shots in cinematic history and the tone of the adrenaline pumping action always leave pulses of excitement and thrill for the next invigorating engagement.
The imagery of the film is both surreal and imaginative. I acknowledge that some set and character designs may not be for everyone's taste but one cannot deny that George Miller has a daring vision for his films. With total confidence, the film exists in its own world without the need to tiresomely weigh down the story with back story or explanations. The brilliant aspect of the world of Mad Max is there isn't a specific shot or conversation that feels out of place to illustrate a feature of the its unique environment or culture. Everything is just there for the audience to see and discover and eventually come to accept as a dramatic re imagination of the reality which we exist in.
Overall, I felt the film to be a call back to the old days when people came to cinemas to have an experience. To have an opportunity to see something truly special. Mad Max is certainly such a ride. This is a definite must-see. (and a worthy one in 3-D too)

Plenty of sterile action movies have came out throug the decade, none of 'em even close to serious action movie. Either they've got a very bad plot, or a terrible cast. If you'd like to watch a great "pure action movie" with nonstop road chase in greatly modified postapocalyptic world, with not many dialogues, just go get the tickets, sit down and watch.
I'm not saying it's the best pure action movie I've ever seen Its not, but in the last 15 years I haven't seen anything at this level. In it's own category IT'S a gem. Btw great soundtrack, great characters, a bit "not exactly what I was expecting" ending... 3D wasn't great, indeed the picture quality was just amazing.

I don't write reviews very often but when I do it is usually to try and make people aware of the very BEST and warn them of the worst or most questionable content. And WOW this film blows away the former category.

A 2 hour epic of non-stop, blood pumping, action. George Miller has taken everything inspired that came after the original trilogy (such as the borderlands games) and took it under is wing while waving a flag saying "THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT". The art direction, sound design, pacing and casting was perfect. The story takes a slight backseat but fills in everything it needs to - dealing with all the themes it wants to while letting the action take a front seat.

A MUST SEE on the big screen. You may never see something quite as good as this again!

If this were part one of a trilogy or something like that I would understand, but as a stand-alone, it's completely moot and a stuntshow rather than a movie. Out of the two hours of runtime, I'd say one hour and a half is just mindless action scene that don't lead to anything: there's no realisation, nor "redemption" for any of the characters. Because, contrarily as to what it might suggets, you can't really buy this sort of happy ending, considering the premises - also, why is this movie titled Mad Max when Max himself is practically a secondary character, who, if you haven't seen the previous films, appears to come out of the blue without any purpose and just a hint, through hallucinations, of a backstory.

Eye candy for action fans, but for the rest of us, it's useless.

The film had mesmerizing actionsThis film was an absolutely phenomenal action film through and through, and definitely George Millers greatest masterpiece yet. This film brought out what looked like the Max he had always wanted to make. The film had mesmerizing actions sequences partially due to the lack of shaky cam one million shot action takes and keeping you on the action at all times and also due in part to the beautiful cinematography the film carried. The setting is also a lovely vibrant colour that makes each scene look eye watering.
Now the characters. Max was the mentally tormented Max we'd really wanted to see over all these films (his previous incarnations never really being mad but just angry) and Tom Hardy brought a nice presence on screen. His dialogue was short and to the point at most times as of his one instinct: survive. His accent was indistinguishable and voice coarse due to obviously not having much social interaction since the world fell. These were nice subtle touches.
Now Charlize Theron is probably one of the greatest heroines since Ripley in Aliens, and brought a grit and determination to the film. Her and Hardy worked off of each other well with contrasting and harmonizing qualities.
Also, Miller has created some extra subtle but brilliant scene in this film outside of all the action, for instance one scene when Max is about to shotgun someone's hand off to detach his chains, with this scene building up quickly, obviously and brilliantly. Also, in this scene (and many others) there are call backs to the previous Mad Max films that don't feel forced into this film for nostalgia but actually work within this film by themselves as well.
However, to have anything to criticize about this film would possibly be the dialogue. It's pretty plainly written and could be done by most 18 year old film students. Additionally to that, the kind of romance that blooms between Nux and the bride seems a bit blunt and stupid really, not really advancing the story and making a character you wish had good intentions but was still bat **** insane into a heroic whelping softy. And finally, the stories way of concluding itself (backtracking of sorts) seemed pretty ridiculous but it still worked well, and for the majority of these criticisms to be honest don't really matter too much when you watch this film as an action film, and that's what you should go see it as. All these people saying it was a bad film due to such and such aren't looking at this film as an action film, which IS what it is.
Overall, with beautiful visual eye candy, ecstatically amazing action sequences, solid performances and a good bit of humour here and there Mad Max has ended up being an action film to remember and the pinnacle of the franchise (so far). Lets hope for more action films to live up to and surpass the quality of this one!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Some 30 years after the last Mad Max saga, Fury Road was awaited with much anticipation and expectation. Unfortunately the film never truly delivers (or builds on) its legacy. Sure, there's spectacular explosions, a phlethora of scrap metal vehicles + some really weird characters indeed. The story itself is paper thin (even for Mad Max movies), almost non-existent really. No character in the film has any depth, with some sort of exception of Charlize Theron's character. Max Rockatansky mainly serves as a punching bag in this movie and only catches a few rays of limelight that bounce off Furiosa (Theron). For this reason alone the movie title seems all wrong: it's way more about Furiosa than it is about Max. The film itself seems like one big car chase through the desert wasteland with some "king-of-the-hill" fighting sequences intermixed. The ending is typical "leave room for a sequel". And yes, Mad Max The Wasteland has already been announced: no sense of at least some sort of episode closure whatsoever.

I had high hopes for this movie. Because of the franchise/concept and because of George Miller in the directors chair. Compared to Beyond Thunderdome and The Road Warrior (especially that one) Fury Road never truly delivers. Not on characters, certainly not on story and only half-hearted on action sequences and scenery.

One of my favorite games is motorstorm which involves various offroad vehicles racing through the Utah desert, there is a lot of this in mad max and a lot of popular culture has taken inspiration from the previous films. I however never saw these and feel they may of not aged well but this film has me wanting MORE! I cannot wait for the video game to come out later this year. That will certainly give me more of the max mad I'm lusting for! I highly recommend this film! Go watch it now! Expand

Mad Max Fury Road is a triumph in every way. It delivers pulse pounding action, stays true to the Max that Miller has established, and makes for the perfect summer movie.

In the little downtime that we have to establish the universe we get a world drought into anarchy. The barren wasteland presented before us is a desert world with water being a crown jewel, food and supplies being the silver to water’s gold. Immortan Joe is the ruler of this wasteland and has a mass cult of followers that fill this twisted world and Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) defies the Joe which spirals in a massive pursuit. It’s a simple plot but one that gets fleshed out during the course of the movie and one that’s thoroughly interesting.

This movie is essentially a giant chase scene and while that may seem like it can drag on, it never does. Fury Road provides some of the most varied and intense action scenes that’s been presented on film in the most recent years. This wasn’t completely evident to me until the first fist fight. Visceral and engaging, you’re not quite sure where it goes, but damn does it have your attention. The same sentiment follows the entire film. Not knowing the predictability of the nature of these characters and what happens to them deviates from keeping the main characters safe, as they never are.

Tom Hardy is about the best Mad Max we could get. He nails the mannerisms, speech, grunts, he solidifies himself in the role and Charlize Theron is there to make for a capable female role. She has her agenda and a purpose, while Max is Max, just the way he’s supposed to be. How these two and some of the other supporting roles interact, dissuade, and empower one another makes for great chemistry and dynamic among-st the actors.

The landscape may be wide and morose but that doesn’t mean it lacks variety. The ensemble of oranges that paint the land and sky are nothing short of breathtaking, when night falls, a very chill and ominous navy blue sets the tone. Color is vivid and muddy.

Fury Road gives us the perfect pacing for a movie. While it may all be one huge chase, it’s dominated by action sequences between cars that only get better as the film progresses. The atmosphere and characters round out the remainder of the film, each character has a purpose to fulfill (one particular player aside) and there’s a reason for everything. Every small detail gives us meaning, there are some creatures spread out in the landscape that I still have my head wrapped around. The story is easy to follow, rewarding, and satisfying, something not even The Avengers could pull off, yet Mad Max does it.

If you are a fan of the original movies then you’ll know what you’re going into. Fury Road is easily accessible to newcomers that have their heads scratching at the trailer. I can make a pretty strong promise that both groups will be appeased by the end of the film. It’s a bombastic movie that doesn’t slow down and has the ideal run time. Nothing felt out of place, forced, or like it needed more context.

Mad Max Fury Road is something I can’t correctly capture on paper. It’s one of the few film events that needs to be experienced in a theater. From start to finish I had a damn good time, rooting for the characters, engaged in the plethora of action sequences, invested in the plot when there was dialogue, and the soundtrack just adds a badass and foreboding vibe to accompany the movie. It is the best movie of the summer, I know I may be wrong in the future but I highly doubt it, however I will keep an open mind. Mad Max is one of the rare occasions where you want more, I vie for this movie to succeed so that we can get another because this was the most enjoyable affair I’ve had in quite a long time.

For this, I give this movie a 6 because it almost arrogantly says to its viewers, "Don't worry about the story, just be happy you're along for the ride."

As a matter of fact, I was actually pretty conflicted on whether I loved or hated it up until about a third of the way through the movie. The opening scene felt a little sudden and underplayed and some of the early concepts had me worried that the whole movie might turn into one big cliche. But after the initial rush of excitement started to die down, Hardy and Theron's phenomenal acting prowess subtly emerged and really made the movie shine. Truly gripping moments, both horrible and touching raised the bar and the supporting cast made real contributions to the story instead of just being background noise. No, there wasn't much in the way of any sort of back story and yes, the movie was virtually a 2 hour long chase but I really can't say that I feel that either of these facts detract from the film. While I'm generally not a fan of this particular style, Miller plunged into this movie and never hit the brakes yet excelled on virtually all fronts.

Hardy was spot on as an almost silent protagonist, yet for his lack of dialogue, he still manages to convey a great deal more than you would expect. His moment with Furiosa (Theron) near the end of the film made it hard not to get a little emotional as it hits you with a profound sense of intimacy between the two minus any sort of sexual focus. Theron portrays an almost conflicting blend of sensuality and battle hardened warrior goddess. It's her eyes that initially grab you, a dusky gaze that makes your legs go weak and then she goes straight bad ass and just wows you from beginning to end.

Constant action, surprisingly deep character interaction and an unapologetic thrill ride from the word go, another masterpiece from Miller and well worth the trip (or as in my case, multiple trips) to the theater

In 2015, we have a version with stunning and exciting special effetcs, a brilliant soundtrack and the elements that made this franchise so beloved. Hardy replaces extremely well Mel Gibson, as a man hunted by his past who's only trying to survive in an undecent and crazy world. But being honest, who steals it is Charlize Theron as Furiosa. She's so good that her character's name should be on the title. Hoult is also amazing as a dying boy who's blind to Immortan Joe's legacy and eventually becomes a key role in the film. "Mad Max Fury Road" is the most fun I can remember having at the theater in... well FOREVER. As a long time watcher of "Mad Max" I had expected great car chases, little dialogue and lots of explosions. What I didnt expect was the show to be genuinely funny. It's SO over the top that several times during the movie my friends and I turned to each other and laughed hysterically.

I wont go into the specifics of the story-- except that Max joins up with Furiosa at some point (which we all know from the trailer). They speed across the desert while in hot pursuit by Immortan Joe and hundreds of cars, trucks, motorcycles and other weird hybrids. Add some guys on swaying poles throwing fireballs (Polecats) and a guy playing a guitar/flame thrower while dangling from chains (Doof Warrior). I dont think I want that job.

Charlize Theron is wonderful (as always) as Furiosa. Tom Hardy is a great new Mad Max (the man of few words). There is some controversy about the supposed "feminist" message of "Fury Road". I'm going to ignore those people since its not even worth a reply except to say "Yes there may be male or female leads in a movie. That doesnt mean anyone has an agenda."

In conclusion: sure the story in "Fury Road" is slim and the dialogue is clunky at times. But so what? "Max Max" is a TON of fun. Just suspend reality and hang on for the ride. You'll be glad you did.
