This reboot of the cult brand of MAD MAX from the mastermind behind its original trilogy is a felicitous remedy to the generational fatigue of CGI-rampaged action tentpoles the world is overloaded with presently. After decades of immersion into animation filmmaking (paid off with an Oscar trophy for HAPPY FEET 2006 with his co-directors), George Miller’s grandiose return to live-action feature, the first one after LORENZO’S OIL in 1992, detonates the genre film enthusiasts with its cutting-edge visual spectacles which counter-act the current trend with the majority of its staggering set pieces accomplished with blood-and-flesh stuntmen and authentic objects other than virtual fictionalisation aided by computers, more pleasingly, the film has already conducts a profitable box-office trajectory worldwide, albeit it bears a hefty budget of $150 millions.

Me and the kids really liked this one. The only thing that I wish they had done to put it over the top would have been to tie in the original Toecutter villain from the first movie with the Immortan villain in Fury Road. Its the same actor (Hugh Keays-Byrne) for crying out loud!! There could have been all kinds of medical explanation given for how he survived getting obliterated by a semi to have to wear a re-breather mask and special armor. Otherwise it was still awesome. The character development from both sides of the conflict was interesting and gave the story much more depth. Well, more depth than one would expect from a 2 hour chase film. Enjoy! Expand

Not only did it set the bar, but it set the bar so high that other movies are gonna be clamoring to catch up. Like the originals, this one is going to spawn LOTS and LOTS of copy and inspire loads of new stories. This movie is near literally a 90 minute car chase, and I loved every minute of it. If you see this movie, do yourself a favor. Watch it in D-Box while you can. D-Box are those chairs that have vibration and motion in them, allowing you to feel the movie. That, in combination with Real-D 3D, makes this movie a true spectacle to behold. The BEST vehicle oriented action movie to date. Yeah, I'm talking to you Furious Seven! Also, Bane himself as Max and Charlize Theron as Furiosa do an EXCELLENT job. They deserve every award that inevitably comes their way. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is ridiculous. I have no idea why it's so highly rated by Tomatoes and why everyone seems to love it. It's a two-hour car chase. It's not even clever or well-done by action standards; it tries to be stylized but just ends up looking cheap, and not awesome. The effects are obvious and not well done. It was really, really dull.

I was so bored after the first 40 minutes--which was just mindless violence with the barest of plot flecks--that I pondered leaving.

I swaer to god when they turned around to go back to the Citadel I almost groaned, because I knew it would be the exact same as the first half of the movie, just in the opposite direction. And it was.

And the ending couldn't have been more of a "we're making a sequel so this is a non-ending" if it tried.

Don't get me wrong. I love action movies. Indiana Jones, The Matrix, V for Vendetta, Terminator 2, even something like Dark Knight, these are all action movies that are in the 90% review range. Mad Max is a pile of garbage compared to these, and doesn't deserve to be as highly rated, not even for the "fun factor". It's just bland and uninteresting.

I'd like to say I watched every single minute and gave it a truly fair chance, but it was a bit like watching X games. I get tired of those after the first few neat tricks. This was predictable and boring after the first three things blew up. I thought that a story might be developing with the breeders, but they ended up just being boring passengers. I truly respect everything the special effects people did, but truthfully---it was a bit like watching fireworks--fun for the first 10 minutes, but then if you have anything else to do, you usually go do that instead. Also--why in the world is anyone saying that Charlieze Theron is doing brilliant acting work here? Where? When? I've seen this actress tear up the screen and she is one of my very favorites, but in this? Sorry---not seeing it or feeling it. Expand

The movie does spectacular stuff! Bringing "Tom Hardy" was one of "George Miller" best decision in "Fury Road". I know alot of people says "Mel Gibson is f--king cool, not Hardy!". Look stupid, Mel Gibson is f--king old! He's 51! Did we ever wanna see Mad Max getting old? F--k no! You know it's "A Lovely Day" to watch Fury Road. I guess the girl he sees from time to time is supposed to be the child he lost in the first film despite his child being a boy toddler in that.
With that said though the film grips you and never lets go with kick ass action and stunts. The visuals and musical score are also amazing. Mad Max Fury Road hopefully makes enough money for another film. However a 5th film that takes a little bit more time developing Max. And maybe on just a little bit less acid lol.

So, what else is there to say but . . . This is great stuff! No, really, I’m a sucker for harrowing visions of sick societies challenged by damaged goods. The visions here are horrifyingly realized in the blast furnace of Miller’s imagination and slammed across the desert with the help of an angry industrial-symphonic score. Of course, it’s generally difficult to tell just what the hell is going on at any moment, particularly in the first half-hour when various subspecies of low-lifes are yelling at each other in Australian over the clanging of noisy machinery. But you can enjoy this flick just by getting the gist of the factions and the action and rooting for the good guys as you watch them earn each other’s trust. Turan of the L.A. Times has it right: “Fury Road” is film boiled down to its essence--a crucible of sight and sound. The only disappointment is knowing that there’ll be very few films more exciting than this out the rest of the year. Expand

Probably in as many years as I can remember. It is pretty much a perfect film with a lot of creativity, stunning visuals, stunning cinematography, action-packed, incredibly fast-paced and a great story which doesn´t need a lot of dialogue to move forward the events. One thing I love about it is the personality of the film, in a big part achieved thanks to its two lead actors: Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron (the true star of the film) are outstanding here. So much restraint, so much passion, so much love for their craft, perfect performances, the type of roles that become iconic. People need to see this, it is beyond words. In this world of sequels which become repetitive and too childish, Mad Max and last years Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, have proved you can make it right: top quality and commercial appeal. Incredible from the first scene to the hair-raising last one.
An almost perfect 9.5 from me.

Now he brings his monotony to Mad Max, the latest of sacred 'man's movies' to be emasculated by feminism. Bane masks (yeah he ruined a Batman also with his boring monotony) are rampant. too much heavy handed feminism spoils what otherwise is some of the most beautiful cgi photography and action scenes in a long time. Charlize Theron is fantastic as always, but an abhorrent plot--A tanker of breast milk--I'm not kidding, really makes it bad. I miss good, strong women like Tina Turner, who managed charm and grace along with strength. Other strong female characters who did it right were the love interest in Raiders of the Lost ark, and the young girl from the new True Grit remake. Expand

What a disappointment!! George Miller how could you have come up with a movie this bad? Ok Max got away with just 17 lines in MM2 but the movie had earth and substance! Tom Hardy reduces Max to a boring mute idiot, sidelined by Charlize Theron who usually does ok in movies. Not this one unfortunately. The bad guys in MM1 and MM2 were real characters and real people. Everyone in the film had a purpose, a reason to be. No one in this film is connected to any part of anything. Its a totally disconnected silly stage act that insults the viewer on a number of levels .
As for the vehicles- ok its better than nothing ( thunderdome) but they are foolish, unreal, disneyesque, and absurd - almost like trying to impress an adult with a transformer toy. They wouldn't last a day in a real apocalyptic landscape, prompting too many questions like why and how?
The plot -They go somewhere and turn around and go back again. Driving miss daisy with a bit more horsepower, but less storyline. And a few cirque de soleil clowns thrown in who do some zany acrobatics."oooh I heard the stunts were real and not cgi"
What character development ? Zilch! why were the baddies so bad? I don't know or really care. They certainly aren't real or menacing like the humungous. They don't create an iota of tension or a modicum of memorability
This movie is the diametric opposite to its relatively austere Aussie dirt outback heritage, which is replaced by fake yellow fantasy sandstorms direct from the mummy returns - Why were they driving in there again? Don't ask yourself these questions as there are no reasons for anything in Fury Road.

The feminism is a contrived twist that does nothing to improve the film, as no characters are developed male or female.

If you can ignore the lack of acting, plot or story, what is left is 2 hours of whacky silly nonsense and pointless races/pyro/ explosions. . Unlike the previous films fury road is a hollow movie that betrays its genuine fan base and treats the rest of the audience like a bunch of morons with A.D.D. Sadly its been such a long time coming but consigned as an opportunity lost.

Why did it cost so much to make this movie? Even the numberless action scenes all looked the same. I have never been less impressed.

No story, no dialogue, no character development, no nothing. I had no idea who those running people were, and I didn't give the slightest damn. Some of them died, and I didn't feel sorry the tiniest bit.

It was my first Tom Hardy movie, and it's certainly my last. He was trying too hard with the throaty voice. He had no body language and no facial expressions. According to this movie, he's a very bad actor.

Charles Theron was OK, but even the fact that she's one of my favorites didn't make me care about her suffering at the end of the movie.

You can't just expect people to care about random people running around and dying.

Very bad. VERY VERY bad.

Mad Max: Fury Road is completely overrated.

Make no mistake, its basically one long car chase whilst trying to masquerade itself as something more.

The plot itself is absurd and in its execution is inordinately action packed, to an extend you feel exhausted, fueling the desire for the movie to simply end. The theme of a post apocalyptic world is taken to its very extreme which ruined any hope of taking it seriously in the first place.

The subtle injections of feminism don't necessarily degrade the narrative, it does a good job of doing that on its own, but it does add to a more implausible scenario where you have women well passed their menopausal threshold engaging in activities that are normally accustomed to navy seals and bikie gangs.

Its a long, tedious and gratuitous bore... the taken 3, if you will.

So basically another Mad Max film!! But I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this one’s my new favourite If you liked the previous entries, this is definitely one you should check out. George Miller is on fantastic form with this film and it’s amazing to think it took him this long to re-capture it. Tom Hardy is well cast in his role, though I do believe Nicholas Hoult is the best actor in the whole film and both of them complement Charlize Theron’s performance very well. There is never a dull moment, the characters are really good and I actually think this would be a pretty good jumping on point for newcomers. I would recommend seeing the first two movies prior to seeing this and some long time fans may be a bit confused by some elements that have been added to the film, mainly Max’s flashbacks. This is absolutely brilliant, though be warned there is a bit of a gore factor at points, though it’s not to the extent that it will be absolutely wince inducing. Many people are calling this the best action movie of the last 5 years and while I personally still think that honour belongs to the Avengers this is still a contender for that title.

All that’s left to say is what a movie, WHAT A LOVELY MOVIE!!!

I mean if this film does not click with the audience and flops, that means it’s not the filmmakers’ fault, it’s the audience that will spell the end of innovating, original, fresh daring, bold blockbusters like these, which are already impossible to make in this day and age. To say this is the movie of the year would be an understatement, it’s quite simply a stunning work of art, filled with impressionistic visual splendour that stuns you from beginning to end. George Miller proves why he’s a master filmmaker when it comes to staging epic stunts and, of course, chase sequences. And it wouldn’t be an overestimation if I deem Fury Road (2015) superior to Road Warrior (1981) and as the best of the Mad Max series. This one takes the cake for being the must watch movie of the year; one that demands to be seen only on the biggest IMAX screen you can find. For once the hype and the reviews more than lived up to expectations. Action and blockbuster cinema simply does not get better than this, the bar has been set very high. Expand

This is the kind of movie Michael Bay imagines he makes.

Mad Max fury road is like a drugged out insane re-imagining of Mad Max 2, with 150 million dollars of budget powering unparalleled vehicular destruction, lunatic action scenes and a strong characterisation all anchored by someone who has an actual vision. George Miller knows where the action is happening and wants the people watching to know too. Not too many jump cuts, no insane closeups or swoops unless it makes things better,

It's the best movie I've seen in two or three years, and possibly the best film too.

This movie is not as groundbreaking as all the reviewers will have you believe. It's a great movie without a doubt, but there were some aspects of the film I didn't like that made me lower my score.

First off, the world Miller created is amazing. Everyone and everything is crazy in true Mad Max fashion. This leads to having great visuals and action scenes throughout the entire film. However, there was almost too much action in the film, that by the end the finale just wasn't that impactful. The action itself is amazing. It didn't feel choreographed at all. It had a very spontaneous feel to it, which made it seem real and authentic. You know, the way action should be! I'm tired of watching computer game action sequences in films today. So this was a much needed breath of fresh air.

Second, I hate movies in which I can't understand dialogue anymore. Actors are instructed to talk crazy to give characters more depth. Ok, I understand that, but it's so bad that I can't understand half the things being said. Luckily, the female characters (who are not crazy) I can understand clearly. All the male crazy characters have weird accents, machines over their faces to distort their words, or are just flat out yelling. Yes, the world is crazy in a beautfiul way... but I would like to know what they are saying while doing crazy things. I'll put on subtitles next time I watch this film.

Finally, my biggest beef with the movie is the Mad Max character himself. I know the main complaint some might have is that he wasn't the main character in the film. I'm not bothered by that at all. My problem is that he doesn't feel like the same character I loved in the original films. The whole charm of the original Mad Max films for me is that Max himself was a calm, cool, collected badass in a world gone crazy. Max is suppose to be above it all, however in this film he's portayed as someone who's pretty much as crazy as everyone else. He's no longer calm and collected, but not he's screaming, paranoid, frantic, and haunted by his family's death... His family's death in the first film didn't consume him several years later when looking at Road Warrior or Thunderdome. Did anyone else feel like this Max character wasn't really the Max we've seen in the prior three films? It didn't to me, and it was bugging me the whole film.

The entire movie is based around being in or on top of that damn semi truck. At one point (near the second half) they finally ditch the semi truck, and low and behold they decide to get back in and keep using it for the rest of the movie.
If your really into euro truck simulator, or continual plot holes, this will be right up yer alley.

Two hours of nonstop adrenaline, mixed in with a hefty amount of emotion, it eats at you wanting even enemy-turned allies to stay alive throughout.

Tom Hardy is the perfect replacement as Max Rockatanksy, and it lives up to every amount of hype that you had any worries for. The film was beautifully shot, the wasteland was like nothing i had ever seen before in a post-apocalyptic world. And to think that 99% of the time, you are watching real stunt work, and real practical effects: every vehicle is real and crafted to be menacing. I havent felt this happy over an action movie in over a decade.

Fury Road has set the bar high for all action movies after it, and is going to be one difficult experience to top for the remainder of the year. Oh, and how can we forget the guy with the flamethrower guitar? George Miller, you just gave the middle finger to all of Hollywood thereafter. This is how a cinema should be done.

The characters are quite rich from an emotional standpoint and elevated by overall excellent performances, which also happen to be very fun to watch. There's a lot of creativity put into the stunt work, which keeps you at the edge of your seat. Overall, it was very satisfying to see a summer movie this surprisngly good after the disappointment of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Expand

This movie is an idiot’s delight.

One of the nice things about the original Mad Max trilogy is that the movies got progressively better.
Unfortunately, Fury Road has regressed on all counts. The story line is essentially a repeat of Thunder Road, which makes it predictable. The dialogue is pathetic. (The first few words out Charlize Theron’s mouth are a big clue.) The movie becomes increasingly tedious as you begin to realize that what you are watching is a 107 minute long car chase. The fight scenes are unoriginal, unless you happen to think that a guy sitting on top of a long bamboo pole strapped to a car, that rocks back a forth like a metronome is creative genius. The bad guys are a bunch of brainwashed lemmings. Max has become a zombie and is nearly empathy proof. Numerous parts of the movie are aggravatingly illogical. (How do those old woman living in the desert survive? Where do they get the gas for their motorcycles?)

The original Mad Max movie was hardly great film making. It was a low budget, foreign film, and the American version used voice overs. The story line was essentially a Dirty Harry movie set in a post-apocalyptic Australian Outback. But Mel Gibson’s character was compelling, and you found yourself rooting for him to survive and avenge his family’s death.

The sequel (Thunder Road) also had a rather basic story line, (the good guys have an oil well and the bad guys want it), and there wasn’t much dialogue. The characters weren’t well developed, but they were interesting. The good guys were quirky, and the bad guys were extreme. They weren’t your run of the mill sociopaths, they were nuts, so crazy they made you laugh, and they had great costumes, too. They wore make-up, sported Mohawk haircuts, and dressed in punk leather bondage clothing.

The third installment (Beyond Thunder Dome) was another action feast for the eyes, but the movie finally moved beyond campy. It had a complex story line, original fight scenes, some actual dialogue, and a musical score to boot. It was, far and away the best movie of the trilogy.

I recommend Fury Road only if you’ve seen and enjoyed every Fast & Furious movie ever made.

Explosions everywhere, no shaky cam, excellent special effects, amazing action, fast cars, and a guitarist playing a fire guitar on the top of a truck in the middle of a high-speed persecution. Seriously. Amazing acting, AMAZING directing; and, also, very unexpectedly, a very good, emotional story. You can really feel about this characters, and know what is their true purpose, but it doesn't show you unnecessary scenes. I mean, the story is excellent, and it's also controlled perfectly so it doesn't show you things that are going to make you yawn, just the right amount to keep the constant action always in a non-stop ride.
This is truly one of the best action movies I've ever seen, it may be the best only-action movie of the entire decade. When you enter there, the first thing you'll have to keep in mind is the fact that this film is absolutely nuts.

The soundtrack is poetic and at some points my jaw dropped and i was smiling at how good the action scenes were, I could not hold it in. The ending was great and everything about this movie is awesome. It is completely balls to the wall crazy. There is a guy with a electric guitar that spews out fire. It is awesome and completely mad! Awful boring script, cliche after cliche, nothing original from first minute to last. Did they really just film over an hour or movie in exactly the same setting, a truck....I am so glad I did not waste my money in the cinema but feel ripped off paying for the rental.

Should never have been labelled Mad Max. Boring weak character, nothing like the original.

Very disappointed.

Coming to the movie, its just going from point A to B, returning again to A from B except they bring little more people with them on way back. The action is usual, there are many good movies that have action better than this. No dialogues to keep us entertained atleast a little.. over all , a poor movie with a good premise wasted.

Cons:
1. Zero character building. I know it's an action flick, but I need something to grab onto. Who is this little girl he keeps having flashbacks to? Maybe you need to see the originals?

2. Monotonous. The car chase is pretty awesome for the first bit of it, but after an hour of the same exact thing, it gets quite boring.

3. Way too over the top. I knew what I was getting into with this, so I have no problem suspending disbelief, but the dude with the big amps blasting heavy metal was just too much.

If I want to watch things blow up for 2.5 hours I'd rather watch the Transformers movies.

I was so disappointed, this is so much worse than original Mad Max movies. The story has NUMEROUS holes, how in the world they could survive after they got shot thousands and thousands bullets? They were thrown grenades at, they were fired bolts, and they even didn't get hurt. Two people killed hundreds, they must be Batman and Catwoman with nine lives. The end is most absurd - they have same group of blood, how surprisingly! And of course army of crazed monsters just let them to take the citadel, lol. I regret I watched this. Expand

It's as if they took the last 20 minutes of Road Warrior (a spectacular film) and made it into a 2 hour movie. No build, no suspense. Nothing. I'm not even sure that the main character IS max as his random, nonsensical flashbacks can't even be tied to any of the previous films. The visuals were wonderful, the cinematography great, and the action was above average, for sure, but it takes more than that to make a great action film. See the aforementioned Road Warrior, Terminator 2 (or Terminator 1), Aliens, Predator, The Matrix. All those movies had gripping plots, intense suspense, good builds, great character development, in addition to amazing visuals and top notch action. All classics. People try to tell me that this movie was about 'visual storytelling'. Sure, it had that. But it was like a few tiny pieces of meat on a mostly bare skeleton. This movie had the FEEL of classic mad max but none of the soul. Is this what american cinema has come to these days? Just how dumb and easily pleased is the average critic and metacritic user? If you're reading this, stop using this site, it's worthless. Think for yourself because these guys on here haven't a clue about good movies (or music, or video games). Expand

Fury Road is an exercise in minimalism.

With a bare bones script and set in a bare bones landscape the movie wacks the audience with visuals and helter skelter chaos in what boils down to one long pursuit through a rocky desert that recalls Mad Max 2: the road warrior.
Is this the road warrior redux?
Perhaps it is in a way, but then it's infused with a touch of borderlands(the game) for it's over the top weird characters, with names like: The People Eater, The Doof Warrior and The Bullet Farmer. There is no way describing them, they have to be seen.
The movie keeps a stringent pace once it get's going, which is almost right from the bat, after we are (re)introduced to Max and the setting. Tom Hardy is a worthy successor to Mel Gibson, perhaps even better for he has a rather more edgy attitude, which is why Max is called Mad after all. In the first scenes he gets captured and while he tries to make his escape, he finds himself dragged along as war trophy perched in front of a car that is part of the pursuit of the War Rig, a massive truck-trailer combination commanded by Imperator Furiosa(Charlize Theron) who is trying to escape the War Boys of the Tyran Immortan Joe with his most adored treasure: his five nubile wives.
The chaos increases when the first of the pursuit catches up with Theron and Max tries to escape them, while the War Boys try to kill him, Furiosa and get the War Rig to stop at the same time without killing the wives. Once the first of the War Boys have been dealt with by Max and Furiosa, the fight is between them at first, but eventually necessity turns them into allies. Later on they are joined by Nux, a Warboy who is forced to switch sides.
A lot is smartly interwoven with the pursuit. There is the awkward love relation that develops between Nux and one of the girls. There is a kind of respect developing between Max and Furiosa. There is even some pondering that gives the movie a deeper feel. And there is even a very Boschlike scene when the War Rig travels to a swap-land where the Crows live.
The fight scenes are a marvel to behold, almost everything fanciful is flung at the War Rig: pole riders, trucks, bikes, monster trucks, armored cars, flamethrowers, hooks, chains and a high speed saw among them.

All in all this is a well made movie in which the star is Theron who overshadows even Hardy due to her personality. It's not because she pretty in this one, -for she is not- she is gritty, dirty and bald, but it is because she brings Imperator Furiosa to life. It makes me wonder whether the next installment in the series will be called Mad Max.

The result is visually impressive. Absolutely grotesque good and bad heroes fight for gas in a post-apocalyptic future society in a movie that can only be described as post-modern and cyberpunk. The exhilarating action is so intense that even the rotten tomatoes critic got curried away and gave it an almost perfect score (97%). Tom Hardy (known for Inception and The Dark Knight Rises) has become the next big thing in Hollywood due to this remake. Charlize Theron (an absolutely top actress overall) is simply great in the post-feminist role of Imperator Furlosa. Nevertheless, as one might expect, the fight for gas idea, which was original, innovative and to the point in 1979, has not aged very well and seems quite ridiculous today. Still, the movie is top notch as an action film with some very funny moments and you will remember it for some time, not for it's non-existent deeper meanings but for it's overambitious and grotesque cyberpunk environment.

Miller has gone beyond creating just a fun summer blockbuster or another good Mad Max film. This is leagues beyond Fury Road. Miller uses technological advances to make an adventure that is as big and epic as ever. Celebrating the spectical of film with elaborate practical effects and gorgeous action scenes. Amidst it all is the idea of hope and struggling to keep fighting in a world where there isn’t much. This film is popular for a reason it’s that good. Essential viewing. Glad this film got popularity in the theater and beyond because in the years’ to come I feel that this film will be hailed as a masterpiece. Fury Road is that extremely rare example of a movie that blew expectations away wholly. I'll admit that I wasn't expecting too much from this, as the trailers made it seem like just another brain-dead action film; in my defense a thousand dumb as hell action movies come out every year, and the fact that this was a reboot didn't help mitigate that assumption. But I could not have been more wrong. An action film with an emphasis on practical effects, great acting, writing, directing, and an actual message is about as rare on Earth as kryptonite. This movie is gorgeous visually (definitely watch it on the best quality TV possible), but the sound is on a whole other level; seriously, listen to this on a high-quality surround sound setup and prepare to be blown away. I don't want to spoil anything, but there is one scene in the movie that takes place in a sandstorm; this is one of the greatest moments of cinema I have ever had the fortune of experiencing. It is a perfect marriage of visuals and sound and is a feast for the senses; buy this movie for that one scene alone, but enjoy the rest of the movie as well, because it is amazing. It is filmed mainly as one long chase, and it is pedal to the metal fast right from the get-go. Fast is the only speed this film knows. Anyway, this film has gotten massive critical acclaim and definitely deserves some award recognition in the coming months (even though the likeliness of anything like the Academy recognizing it is akin to Hitler still being alive). It is far and away the best film I've seen this year, and I can only hope that its future sequels, which are already in early development, are worthy of this masterpiece of sight and sound. If I had only one word to describe this movie, it would be "insane"; not in a bad way, but in the "you have no Idea what's going to happen next" way, and that's exactly what I want from art. Expand

In many ways, I feel Mad Max's success is owed in part due to the nature of modern film making, where extensive and often unnecessary CGI has become the norm.

Still, Mad Max: Fury Road delivers a pretty solid offering if you're after an action Blockbuster that's packed wall-to-wall with inspired visuals, creativity, and heart-pounding action.

Their may as well be no script at all for this film as any small amount of dialogue that is offered is about as cryptic as a parable without any context.

This along, with some of the terms and design choices utilized in the film, may make certain elements of Mad Max: Fury Road familiar to fans of Warhammer 40,000. The Warboys themselves do have a certain Ork-like aesthetic to them and their zealotry and fanatical devotion to Immortan Joe does in many ways mirror the Imperium's veneration for the God Emperor.

Max himself plays practically no part in this film short of getting chained to things and spending nearly all his time in some sort of mask or simply grunting or pointing or looking at things. However, many of the other characters in this film, such as Furiosa or Nux or Immortan Joe, do pull you in enough in their own cryptic way for you to at least care about them slightly.

All in all, I was suitably impressed with this film. The dialogue was a little too pretentious and cryptic for my liking and the whole thing stunk of Warhammer 40,000 but you know what, I'm a 40K fan so have at it!

Not much to say really, other than it was a really fun film.

Con:
The story wasn't very clear, and the lack of dialogue made it harder to figure out the plot, (seriously if you really break it down, so little is said. Not a bad thing though).

Pro:
With the lack of dialogue, it really brings out the emphasis on the action. Each scene is beautifully crafted and executed beautifully. Each action scene puts you on the edge of your seat, and the cast play all of their roles perfectly. It has also peaked my interest, pushing me to buy the original trilogy with Mel Gibson, to see how different the 2 films are.

If you are going to watch this film, do it on a big screen. You are able to appreciate each scene and the action that comes with it in so much greater detail.

The cinematography was BEAUTIFUL, and I'm obsessed with the V8 sign. Jesus Christ this movie was AMAZING. Different locations were cast in different lights, and the whole franchise and the world that's created is such a different view of regular dystopian movies. I love the fact that the movie is so unbelievable - I even thought Immortan Joe's armour was ridiculous and counter intuitive, but the idea that this movie is supposed to be a dystopian FUTURE of our current world, paired with how ridiculous everything is just makes everything more exciting. This isn't an alternate universe, this is supposed to be a future, and it's a refreshing take on every other neo futuristic city that exists in the movie world. Expand

I won't spoil it with a lengthy review, but I will say this: the story telling in "Max" is actually superb. Instead of long, boring exposition (characters pouring their hearts out over how/why they want their revenge, blah blah blah, plot device, blah blah) the story is told through the actions of the characters. Film being a visual medium, this is one of the best examples of visual story telling you will ever see.

Mad Max is rich (maybe too much at certain times) in colour and style, thoughtful, well-acted and loaded with great characters who have proper character arcs. Did I mention the bombastic, almost non-stop, but engaging action sequences?
It is in the absolute top range of action movies and the best movie of the 2015 summer season (I watched it more recently though on DVD, after months of avoiding information and opinions regarding it).

PS. It's probably a 9, 9-point-something but I've given it 10 as a faint attempt to pull up its score.
