This was obviously to cover up shoddy effectsDoes it deserve criticism? Absolutely. This is by far the worst of the series. Some scenes, especially the intro and the scenes in the cave, are so overly dark that it is hard to make things out. This was obviously to cover up shoddy effects work, most of which looked poor and definitely brought down the movie. This thing looked awful and there is no excuse for it considering the money that was sunk into this. The action sequences are equally unappealing. They happen far too frequently and last way too long. During the first half of the film, you never had a moment to just enjoy it. It was just numbing action sequence after action sequence.

As for what little pros this film does have. The plot, which does include time travel, is fine. Mads is great as the villain. Other than that, It's a forgettable entry that had me checking my watch constantly to see how much time I had left. I contemplated leaving many times because I was so bored with it. Crystal Skull is a way better send-off for Indiana than this trash. Dial of Destiny is a shallow cash grab and nothing more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a long-time fan of the Indiana Jones movies, it was a bummer to see them go out not with a bang but with a whimper. It was completely soulless, with the main, but not the only, reason being that Harrison Ford's face was superimposed on a stunt man's head and de-aged for way too long at the beginning. I found myself unable to move past this shockingly bad use of CGI and enjoy the rest of the movie. Also, things are rarely explained; the film just moves from one action set piece to the next with seemingly no raison d'etre. We don't get to spend enough time with these characters to learn about or start empathizing with them before they start running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The action sequences are very tame for an installment in a film series that has yielded some of the most thrilling action scenes of all time. Probably the most disappointing experience I've ever had at the movies, and an embarrassment for all involved. I blame Disney and Harrison Ford for beating this dead horse. Not sure if it sucked because Lucas and Spielberg sat this one out, but that's most likely the case. Having seen the film, I honestly couldn't tell you whether James Mangold has ever seen an Indiana Jones movie in his life. The film seemingly had nothing in common with the previous ones in the series. It made Crystal Skull look like a work of art. Time for a reappraisal of that film, anyone? Expand

Not sure what's going on, but this movie is doing pretty well on the rotten tomato site. I'm not even going to speculate why the discrepancy.

The kid is also very annoying and the villains are clowneske. Indy and the rest of the Old Guard are completely wasted.you do get to hear the Indiana Jones fanfare a lot.

Unfortunately, I was just plain wrong. I'll preface this by saying I saw this with 6 others, and I'm the only one that didn't like the movie, but I am willing to die on this hill. Just a few things that plagued this movie:

- Bad de-aging CGI. It would have been ok if it was a new thing not seen before, but it was just too noticeable to me. - The trope of a hero becoming a beat down former version of themselves, a complete disservice to Indy

- Insistence on introducing a new character that I found to be flat out unlikeable.

- The kid sidekick made Short Round look like an Oscar Winner ;)

- A convoluted plot that is easy to get lost in

- The Poochie character treatment for you know who

- A run time that is about 40 minutes too long

- Wasting Antonio Banderas on a character with 2 lines and maybe 7 minutes of screen time

I could go on and on. The more I think about it the madder I get. The film had potential- in a vacuum, it's not a terrible move per se, but it is by far the worst Indiana Jones movie. A sad send off for Harrison Ford- Henry Jones Jr. deserved better.

Went to see this in cinemas and it was exactly how I thought it would be in the trailers; worse than Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls.

Despite me not liking KotCS, and absolutely despising scenes like where Mutt swings on tree vines, at least that movie had some classic Indiana Jones fights, like the one at the start of the movie on the motorcycle. Dial of Destiny manages to have none of the classic indiana jones action scenes, minus maybe the first scene, and at the same time disrespects Indiana Jones as a character in order to introduce, who Disney thinks, is a 'new, cool, potential replacement (?)' for Harrison Ford. And of course, in typical Disney fashion, since they re-use the recycled plot points from other Disney movies, they have to make Indiana Jones look bad in order to make their new character look good.

The co-star for Indy is unlikable throughout the whole film. She's rude, entitled, has little to no arc, and doesn't pair well with Indiana Jones. I don't blame beloved grumpy senior citizen, Harrison Ford, for accepting a fat pay-check from Disney. In my mind, there are only 3 Indian Jones movies. Just skip this.

Being in my 40s, I grew up with Indiana Jones and love the character. This movie at many times feels like an Indiana Jones movie, especially seeing Ford in the outfit and the amazing music from Williams. But for some unfathomable reason, they turned the character into a broken, sad, alcoholic. He's dragged along in this movie, grumpy, broken. Jones' never feels like a hero in the situations he's placed in. He's the one that needs to be saved or told what the answer is. It's truly bizarre and feels mean spirited what the producers of this movie did to a beloved character. I just don't understand how Ford would have gone along with this. There's some positives. The first 15 minutes should bring a smile to any fan's face. It feels good to see the beloved character we know, being the hero, even if it is CGI. Sadly, that serves as a cruel tease when the rest of the movie unfolds and we're back in 1969. It's like they purposely did the beginning part to say, "Remember your hero in his prime? Now, watch us crush and humiliate him for 2 hours". I see other reviewers taking things out on Helena/PWB. And yes, she brings little to the movie. But the real crime is what they did to Indiana, and what they turned him into. Watch this movie if you must, I couldn't help myself. You will find yourself having fun at moments and even thinking, "hey, it's not bad! It's actually pretty good!". I made that mistake at some moments during the film. Then the movie ended and reality set in. This is complete destruction of a beloved character. Shame on your Disney and Lucasfilm. Expand

I have absolutely no idea how people can say that this is better than the crystal skull. Despite some stupid monkey-swinging crap, aliens and poor CGI, that movie had soul, gave Indy a respectful and climactic send off and was actually enjoyable to watch. Even if you didn't like Shia LaBeuf, he at least had a distinctive character with obvious flaws to be ironed out throughout the movie - we saw him grow into being a hero and at the end, I could see him carrying some future movies as the lead Indy successor. Helena's character however seems so empty, detached and uninteresting. She starts off by leaving Indy to die, then for whatever reason decides "nah, now I'm gonna save him, why not" and Indy is supposed to be fine with it. No character arc, no likeable qualities, she's just better than Indy in every aspect - both physically and in terms of her knowledge... Instead of giving that character any depth, anything for the audience to relate to, making her HUMAN, they gave us a plastic mannequin of a protagonist. Additionally, I think the casting director didn't do a great job with giving the part of Helena to Mrs. Phoebe Waller-Bridge. She is a good actress, but to be the protagonist of an action adventure movie, you need certain qualities, which in my opinion Mrs. Waller lacks. Poor physicality, clunky movement but most importantly a lack of on screen charisma make it hard to believe that she'd be able to stand any ground against the Nazi agents in the big chase sequences. (As a side note: Personally, I think an actress like mrs. Emily Blunt, Alexandra Daddario or Anya Taylor-Joy would have been a much better fit for this role, but we'd never know). If they depicted Indy as Helena's mentor, passing the hat onto her, showing her "the ropes", making her realise what truly matters in life, it would have been 10 times better. Say at some point he's ready to sacrifice himself to save her life, leaving the dial behind and maybe that's when she realises that it's not all about the treasure and money, but the people around you (which is really the core of being THE Indiana Jones - that's how he differs from all the villains in this series) - literally anything! Anyone can come up with something like that in a blink of an eye and I think it's way better than what the writers did here, which is pretty much nothing unfortunately. She becomes a good guy all of a sudden, shows up to save Indy and that's it really - there you have it, now you're supposed to cheer for her. Throughout the movie you have this strange feeling that she can stab Indy in the back at any point, you don't trust her as an audience member and it just makes the whole thing uncomfortable to watch. Apart from that, the action scenes are decent, the deaging is fine and believable for the most part, but it looks best in static closeups (and that's the main reason the first 15 minutes of the movie are actually very enjoyable), the script is an inconsistent mess (you can see it was rewritten several times), the whole ending is a nonsense. All in all, what the hell? The movie simply made Indy obsolete - a dead weight to carry around. It's even worse than what they did with Luke honestly... F disney, F "THE MESSAGE", F "strong female leads" and destroying iconic, beloved IPs. When is Disney going to start making use of the brilliant, creative and apolitical writers that are out there? They've already barely broke even on "Little Mermaid", lost 300 million on "Strange World" and "Lightyear" and are on their way to lose even more with "Elemental". If they had any excuses for messing up those movies, loosing money on a huge renowned franchise like Indiana Jones will be just inexplicable. If that happens, I sincerely hope the shareholders will finally step in to save this sinking ship of a production company. I am done with disney, period. Expand

First ~20 minutes of film was decent (guess why?) but average quality, and then... Harrison Ford in role of retired, divorced, sad looser yelling on loud youngsters... Helena is unbearable, annoying and leaves Indy to die, twice... and yes, she is thief and sociopath, it's impossible to like her. Why this film was made (except money)? There is no scene or dialogue worth to remember. Generic adventure movie - all the elements are there but no soul. Time travel did not work, as always, it's just gimmick to make plot. Lots of plot-holes and "teleportation". Even chasing sequences were boring! How it is possible?!? JOYLESS, UNNECESSARY, SOULLESS cash grab: chaotic, BOOOORING and TOO LONG... 'Unnecessary' is the key word. Another IP is dead. At least Indiana Jones parts 1-3 still are good and perfectly concluded... Even "Crystal Skull" didn't bruise Indiana Jones' character like that... For starters, don’t believe the reviews that say the firstBased on some of the reviews I had seen from people with a similar interest in movies as myself, I thought I was going to absolutely hate this. I didn’t, but it also wasn’t very good. For starters, don’t believe the reviews that say the first 20 minutes is “vintage Indiana Jones.” It’s not. It’s too dark, too loud, generally obnoxious, overly reliant on CGI, choppily edited, and features a digitally de-aged Harrison Ford that looks frankly bizarre in some of the scenes. The rest of the movie is just one chase scene after another with little emotional investment or genuine thrills. Each scene moves along at an overly quick pace that is done intentionally so the audience doesn’t have time to realize how much of it doesn’t make sense. Phoebe Waller Bridge’s Helena is quite annoying and has muddled character motivations, so much that I didn’t really find myself rooting for her and wished Indy would have just ventured off on his own. Mads Mikkelsen was solid as always as the villain, and it was nice to see some of the characters from the previous films show up, but it wasn’t enough to make this film engaging or even likable. The film also has a CGI veneer over much of it that feels fake and often took me out of it. On the positive side, the John Williams score is quite enjoyable, and the final scene did tug at my heart strings a bit. This movie isn’t terrible, but it’s badly hampered by strange filmmaking decisions and a bunch of missed opportunities to achieve the heights previously obtained in this franchise. Expand

The weakest Indiana Jones, ever! A film not for entertainment but for moral education of adolescents... A naive- instructive children's story, reminding of the Spanish teenage soap operas of the 80s, Soviet youth cinema of the same period in combination with Sesame Street, aiming to awaken the love for mathematics, physics, history... because mathematics according to the scriptwriter will make you gods... as if the producer and performer were not Disney, but the North Korean Ministry of Education aiming to educate exemplary and inquisitive, atheistic students... And the ending is just pathetic, the scholarly Greeks of Archimedes and the war-loving cruel Romans. ... Instilling the trampy feeling throughout the film that the Nazis are the Romans and the American government, just speechless... forget about Professor Indy being fawned over by the beautiful student

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I agree with most of the other reviews. Something I don't read however, but bothered me a lot is the message of this movie. For some reason stealing is now glorified in Disney movies. A kid steals money from another kid to buy ice cream. Never is there any consequence. Even when stealing from Indy and being caught, the kid doesn't even want to give back the stolen item until the annoying girl orders him to.

Stealing is not new in movies, but often is done for a bigger cause, like feeding a sibling or something at least honorable. Here it's just about buying ice cream and having shiny items. Also no arc where the character grows and learns from his mistakes. In the end the same kid ends up murdering a guy under water. A kid murdering a guy in a Disney movie, without any remorse or consequence. He didn't even need to murder the guy as a fence was between them both so he was perfectly able to escape. Next, there's the bad guys, who end up killing bystanders throughout this movie for no reason other than to show how bad they are. I don't know why, but it always feels misplaced when people are murdered point blank for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't remember this being a thing in the older movies. The killing always seemed to have a purpose in the story. Here it's needless, the airport guard had no purpose and didn't need to be murdered point blank. Same with the people in the archive at the start. Just pointless murder as if we need to be shown the baddies are really bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Disaster is what I would fear Hollywood/Disney would soon become. Generically predictable and making the same garbage we got from the past. And believe it or not, the first 15 minutes of Dial tone of density is actually amazing. The action kicks of in 1944 when ww2 is happening and CGI Harrison Ford is collecting a sphere that turns out to be a fake, the dial of destiny, I GUESS, is actually real and he has to save his friend and Vollen get a pipe smacked into his face 70 mph, but he's thanos so that's cool. I can also say that the CGI on Harrison Ford is MOSTLY pretty decent, but in some scenes it looks rubbery and was set at night for a reason, but it did feel like a indy movie. And after the first 15 minutes, the good stuff pretty much ends there, audiences. And here's some "cool" thing that the star wars the last Jedi added to the film. Indy is a cold depressed old man that has NOTHING to live for and we get a plucky female character named HELL-ena who is the worst character in this series. The main plot of this film is going country to country to get the dial and Vollen is still alive and hunts Indy down to get the other half of the dial. Indiana Jones is not Indiana Jones in this film, he is Luke Skywalker from the last jedi, he literally needs a plucky female character to show him the way and the lady tells him he's a piece of crap and how he's a grave robber and tells him constantly. I hate this lady because like people say, she's SO arrogant and is annoying. And we learn that Mutt died because the actor who played mutt didn't want to come back to the series. And Indy gets shot and captures him and I don't want to discuss how short round, sorry, UUUUUUHHHHHHH, teddy and HELL-ena got on the plane, she asks if he has flown a plane before, he says no, and HELL-ena says that he has NEVER flown a plane before. WHY the F*@# did you even ASK you incompitent piece of s#!T, Why!? So anyways, in the third act, Indiana Jones starts kicking some real good @$$ like the good old days. Just kidding, he doesn't do crap. Hell-ena saves indy and Vollen gets shot and his crew starts shooting romans and vollan and his crew dies on a plane when they crash. And Indy want to commit suicide and die here, but HELL-ena knocks him out and brings him back to 1969. The ending is kind of good with doing the same scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but Marion needs kisses and they both kiss and The End. And other parts of the film I don't want to mention {but I really want to} because it just came out so don't waste your money on this bombing piece of garbage . Expand

Disney have decided to trade on nostalgia by dumping on everything nostalgic about the franchise. It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off for 'em... spoiler; it will not. This will haemorrhage money.

But well done Kathleen, you've murdered Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones. Good for you; I hope wasting money-printing franchises was worth fulfilling your misandrist dreams.

But you know, I'd forgive it 'somewhat' for this approach if it was at least entertaining, or was producing something new, taking chances or whatever. After all, just repeating what worked in the past is pointless because it's already been done, so yeah, a new approach is always worth praising if it's genuine and it works.

But it doesn't. It's just a boring movie with nothing to say, nothing innovative. It hits the familiar beats for 15 minutes on a train and then the rest of the movie is just an extremely dumb, badly written piece of crap. The protagonists are terrible - including Jones, because Ford has just checked out here - but the antagonists are awful too, no depth, cardboard cutouts with no threat to them. Nothing of note happens, it just trundles along for a few hours and ends, and nothing of value happens, the story beats don't land, it doesn't have ups and downs, it's just... nothing!

Can I say anything nice about it? Sure. First 15 mins, the de-ageing CGI for Ford is impressive enough, still uncanny valley-ish but much better than others that have tried the same approach.

And that's it. Even Williams' score is a bit 'meh' as it doesn't fit what's on the screen; but it's not his fault as he's have to compose a wet fart of a score to match up with what we're served here.

Grim. Sorry if this is a bit of an aimless rant, but it's just unbelievably poor. And my word, if news outlets start calling negative reviews 'review bombing' then... come on, you have to draw the line and just acknowledge when some thing SO bad just gets torn to shreds.

It's awful.

IMDB declined this review; like they decline most of my reviews:

This film is an abomination. Truly. It is the same tired trope that Disney Lucasfilm simply, like an addict, cannot stop using. Ah yes, the female "girl boss"; who actually is the protagonist, who really is fundamentally unlikeable, who does everything as well as or better than Indy, and adds next to nothing to the film. She insults Indy and I couldn't help but think her insults were actually Kathleen Kennedy's actual opinions. She is a carbon copy of Indiana Jones but instead of being charming, she is ugly both inside and out.

Indy, of course, is a sad, tired, and washed up shadow of his former self. He has lost everything that was once important to him. Kind of like Luke Skywalker, kind of like Han Solo, kind of like Boba Fett, kind of like Obi-Wan Kenobi, kind of like the dead Madmartigan from Willow. The only Disney Lucasfilm characters that broke that mold were from Andor & Mandalorian.....which of course are Disney Lucasfilm's only good shows. Mandalorian has been ruined in its third season due to the resurgence of the same girl boss pattern. Disney Lucasfilm hates its male heroes and guess what? The audience is absolutely sick of it. This film is bombing at the box office because it offers the same old woke tropes and it also is just an incoherent mess. I thought that all of the hate was probably just exaggeration. Nope. It is justified. I felt like walking away from this film after an hour. It's hard to sit through.

The characters are universally terrible. The CIA woman is so badly miscast. The henchmen end up killing professors for no reason so I guess they are just cartoonishly evil? The chase scenes are boring because I don't even care about the characters. Ah, who am I kidding.... I am not going to go through all of the problems this movie has because I would be here all day. It is the shining gem of Hollywood's disfunction. What an absolute disaster of a film. 2/10 Only out of respect for Harrison Ford and John Williams.

A poor attempt to recapture the glory days of this franchise. While better than Crystal Skull, this still remains the 2nd worst film for Indiana Jones. The plot and writing does not do him justice, I would avoid or wait for streaming.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disney really out here looking at Kingdom of the Crystal skull, and went "yeah, I can do worse". From indy literally damaging artefacts to get away from some bad guys (something he would literally never do in the original trilogy of classic films), to a shoehorned in female protagonist that isn't likeable and only serves to piss off a certain demographic of people, to LITERAL TIME TRAVEL. This film takes a beloved movie icon and **** tarnishes it for the sake of making a quick buck because their original ideas outside of one hit show they canned too soon sucking entire ass. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There will be spoilers in this review, so I would not read after this first paragraph. I have never been more angry watching a movie than I was watching the Dial of Destiny. This movie managed to somehow insult its audience more than Disney's Star Wars sequel series.

My main complaint is that Indiana Jones, the hero of this franchise, is relegated to being a side-kick. Indy is relegated to the role of side-kick similar to Luke Skywalker in Disney's sequel series. Political activist writers seem to be infatuated with rewriting past male heroes into old, negative, weak, and incompetent men who need a much smarter, stronger, and more competent woman character to one up the male hero at every possible opportunity. It's hard for me not to interpret this as the writers trying to lecture the audience by implying the following: "we know you are all sexist and would never think a woman could be so capable. So we'll show you! Now enjoy as we make a mockery of your so-called hero." Of course, no one thinks that women can't be strong or competent. Yet, political activist losers can't resist an opportunity to lecture us at the expense of a once beloved movie franchise. The true lead character, Helena, (whose name I had to look up because I didn't give a **** about any of the new characters) just finished her bachelor's degree, but she still knows more about archaeology and history than Indy who has been a professor for decades. At one point, I believe she even spoke Latin, an extinct language, fluently. She spent most of the movie rescuing poor, helpless Henry Jones Jr and being insufferable. I could write for hours about all of the major problems with this movie, but Disney does not deserve more of my time and money. I'll just give a quick teaser. This movie was too long and felt like it was pasted together because the movie contained so many story lines and several of them never seemed to be resolved. I am assuming not every story point was resolved because the writers forgot about them due to the length of the movie and likely due to their low IQs. Examples: Indy is wanted for murder. Oh well! I guess the police just forgot about that petty crime. An evil villain who takes a metal bar to the head while hanging off a fast-moving train returns in the movie fully healthy without even a scar. But, who hasn't been impaled on a moving train and lived? Helena has an angry husband in Morocco who wants to kill her. Is he relevant? The world may never know! Do I care? No! The villains were terribly written. They magically always found Indy instantly. They literally found him in the middle of the ocean FFS! These same villains are happy to kill just about anyone aside from Indy, Timmy, and Helena. This is lazy writing (plot armor). Lastly, the end portion of this movie felt like the writers were giving me the finger. Indy's whole life's purpose was to preserve history. However, when he arrived in Syracuse after he traveled back in time, he was willing to permanently alter history by staying in the past. This contradiction felt like a slap in the face. A once great, optimistic hero decided that he'd rather give up on life, alter history that he strived to preserve, and die alone as a loser. The closing scene that ripped off a scene from Raiders was pathetic as well. Disney must think dumb peasants like us can't resist being force-fed unimaginative borrowed material. They are wrong, and this kind of content is insulting.

I will never forgive the political activists who have hijacked the arts to indulge their toxic view of the world. I look forward to the day when normal people, who are not corrupted by radical political ideologies, reclaim and restore the arts. I award this movie 2 points out of respect for Harrison Ford. Good day.

Finally got around to watching this. This adventure did not take me on an adventure. Instead it committed the greatest sin an adventure film can make - it's boring.

Generic: The Film.

And how is it that this movie manages to looks more plastic than the new Barbie film?

Action sequences have no weight since they look very artificial, which is very immersion breaking. The de-aging is off-putting uncanny valley. No clear style in filming that could've supported storytelling. Everything screams generic - from costuming to choreography to writing to lighting to shot composition to editing and mixing.

Plot is filled with conveniences, and the inclusion of a MacGuffin doesn't offer anything unique. No new take or angle on the trope.

Helena's character and her motivations makes no sense, since her character only exists as a plot device. She has no clear personality, and her character fluctuates between scenes so much that there's nothing to get a grasp on. It's impossible to get emotionally invested to a character that's not written to be a true character. I have nothing against the acting, but there's really nothing in the script for her to work with.

But the biggest problem for me... Use of John Williams' score is horrendous in this film. The bombastic music in a major key tries to tell the audience that the heroes are doing something very epic, while a very unimaginative, bland and low-stakes chase scene plays on screen. This contradiction just leaves the viewer baffled as to what they're supposed to be feeling.
Should they cheer with the music? But there's no stakes.
Be nervous? But there's no stakes.
Enjoy the craftmanship of the action scene? But there's no craftmanship involved, just plain copy/paste.

These and many more faults coupled with how long the runtime is makes for a very difficult viewing experience. I do not recommend.

Positives:
The score by itself is nice to listen to.
John Rhys-Davies as Sallah.
Karen Allen as Marion.

2/10.

Helena is a terrible character, and after the 80s/90s of great female archaeologies (Lara Croft, Bernice Summerfield, Vash) we get this one who is just so bad. I think she has a magic power of her own that makes everyone else around her dumber then she which makes her appear smarter.

The CGI in this movie is about as good as it was in Rouge One with Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher.

Story is junk, The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones was better written.

I actually miss the days when movies were more grounded. The first 3 movies one could have believed the events actually happened; not this one. These movies should be more like the James Bond movies and when the time comes recast and just do some new ideas. But what we get is Indiana Jones and the Late Social Security Check.

Save your money and skip this.

I also hated how they treated Indy to prop up Helena. She is worse than Brie Larson ever was. The ending was lame and offensive to the character of Indy. Indy is the new Jake Skywalker and this movie is the Last Jedi of the series.

What a disappointment. And some people say Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was bad. Well this one is far worse.
The movie in a way tricks you in the first 15 to 20 minutes of the beginning of the movie, where it seems it's actually going to be good. But after that it's not even downhill, it's instead jumping off a cliff with no parachute.

This movie despite all the de-aging done to Harrison Ford, it can't perform in any way that saves it.
Indy is pretty finished. And not just in age, his life if like a bottomless pit of misery and nothing to live for.
And the search for the artifact as well as the artifact itself, is a painstaking nightmare. The movie is too slow paced, enemies just know where characters will be just because, no explanations needed.
As for Helena Shaw, Disney again delivers us another almost Mary Sue, that knows everything, knows how to almost everything, she doesn't care one bit what Indy has to say and even leaves him hanging more than once. In essence what to Disney is the "strong female character".

The movie is too long, boring, repetitive, the characters are too unreal even for fiction, the action scenes were clearly recorded in studio using green screen, and it basically ends where it started.

There's almost nothing worth saving in this movie, and definitely nothing worth watching again. Might as well have left things as they were in Crystal Skull, seeing that at least there Indy married the love of his life and discovered he had a son. Both things he no longer has in Dial of Destiny.

Those people keep on trying to invent a bicycle. Doing same thing again and again. Same thing that fails, again and gain. Yet they keep on trying.
Problem is that most of those wannabe inventors does not know anything about thing they are "improving". Or how to make things better. OR how to make anything that would not be a complete ****
Dial of Diarrhea is a perfect example of it. It starts well, just like PROPER classical Indiana Jones, but then those "inventors" come in with their idiotic ideas and blow whole thing up. I have no idea why some people think that Fleabag is a good at anything, from acting to writing. She had a moderately decent comedy show and now Hollywood seem to think that she is the next great everything, from writer to actor, giving her gigs in various positions in very prominent franchises...where she promptly fails. Just to get next job in even bigger franchise. It is flabbergasting how some people manage to fail upwards. But then again it is Kathleen Kennedy house, where competency and talent mean nothing.
Movie starts well, but after 15-20 minutes it devolves into collection of pisspoor writing, completely unnecessary politics and finicky CGI. While there are quite a few good action scenes, they can hardly hold this movie together.
Best thing i could say about this film is that it makes Crystal Skull look substantially better. It is no longer the worst Indiana Jones movie.
Horrible writing, average directing and mediocre acting. Ford is tired, of this movie and of life and Waller-Bridge is one of those irritating obnoxious know-it-all in-your-face i-am-better-than-you morally bankrupt extremely narcisssitic **** that nobody likes. Banderas is nice, but he is there for just a moment. Mikkelsen is a great actor, but he is working with an abysmal **** of a script, so there is only so much he can do.
I do find funny all those shills, giving it 10/10, whining how all those "haters" are giving it 0/10, so they compensate with their 10. While completely ignoring 10/10 positive bombing, because that is apparently completely ok. "Its ok when we do it."

I really loved the original franchise, but it, like my 1970 LTD is long gone. Always good to see Ford, but he was either victim of the old "bait and switch" or his $20M payday made this humiliation worthwhile. First 15 minutes-OK..Polar Express looking people on a similar train. Enter Phoebe Waller-Bridge, hands down winner of the "woman you love to hate award". Snotty, supercilious, grating, grafting, dishonest and vainglorious all at once, she has the sex appeal of Olive Oyl and the temperament of Bea Arthur. Indy desecrated, defamed and debauched. I can think of 20 plot lines where a lettered college professor/ex OSS archaeologist adventurer MIGHT have had an interesting retirement. I would be interested in his autobiography! Instead we get him boozed up in a Barc-A-Lounger in his BVDs. Degrading. I'm not going into the plot-it's out there to read such as it is. The writing is so puerile and peppered with anachronisms. Indeed, it seems like it was written by a committee, cut and pasted then heavily ad-libbed. None of the clever wit or twinkle of the early films. Just a slog. Direction adequate but lighting was awful in many parts probably to hide iffy CGI.Three brief gems for those who will see this on Disney+ in August...(1)Ford recounting the tragic death of his son shows his undiminished ability. (2) Sallah has a cameo which is the only returning character-except (3) Karen Allen (made to look as haggard as possible to suit the vanity of either Kennedy of Waller)shows what real screen chemistry can be-but only after a 2 3/4 hour $330M boondoggle of boredom. A pox on Disney. I hope Kennedy's well-deserved retirement will be as bleak, bereft and depressing as she depicted Indy's. Avoid this trash. It'll be on TV post haste. Expand

I'm sure others have already explained why by now but it was so depressing to watch this flop. Kathleen Kennedy is a destroyer of worlds and needs to stop intentionally inserting annoying standin characters for her vision of herself into every project she controls.

And why does every movie have to be 60 minutes too long while having no good reason for existing in the first place? Yeah, 1 might be a harsh, but it should really be a negative score because this is a franchise that anyone with half a brain could have written and been decent with very little effort.

Spielberg and Lucas have had their legacy annihilated.

This is truly the end of disney. It will lose HUNDREDS of millions it is so bad. Can't wait to hear what stockholders say this fall at the meeting after an entire year of massive failures as Tom Cruise takes the next mission impossible past 1 billion dollars, undoubtedly in less than 2 weeks. Indiana Jones 5 doesn't stand a chance at succeeding because it is a failure, through and through.

1 might be harsh, but it is well deserved since this should have easily been a home run with almost no effort. The people in charge had to actively go out of their way to make this film so frustrating and bizarrely bad. That's why, if I could give a negative score, I would.

They originally were going to kill off Indie at the end but did reshoots so that now, after Indy gets shot in the chest, he gets decked by Helena and forced home into his bed and he’s magically not dead. Also time travel in an indie movie isn’t mystical it’s just lazy. Expand

The only good thing about this movie is the soundtrack, which is not original anyway since it’s the same indiana jones music, and the first 15 mins. From that point forward, this movie gets worst and worst. This is not a Mangold movie, this is a movie from the studio with his surname attached to it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tagged spoilers but I'm not sure if what I place is exactly Spoiler.

First 15 minutes was good. Thought it was great and was getting into it. If the movie was on this. It action style Indy. It had something special. HOWEVER THE NEXT 2 HOURS was boring and turned Harrison Ford into a broken man and Helena was the star of this movie. I did not go to the theater to watch Indy "Tag along" and the dialogue was horrible. An insufferable know it all. Certain plot points make no sense. This did have potential of they steered it the right right. Unfortunately they did not I found myself waking up at one point after the opening 15 minutes and on my phone for the rest. I eventually left the theatre with I'm guessing half an hour left. Paint drying was better than this pile of garbage. No way this was 300 Milly. Giving I dy a generic short round instead of an at least cameo of the real guy not this bargain bin **** It's not teddis fault. He's a great young actor. He just does not resonate with the audience. I can keep going with my own not picks. But I'm do t with anything Kathleen Palpatine Kennedy puts her hands on. I desperately wanted this to be a great send off it I can't say that it is. Anyone who enjoys this must not know what Indy was in to es past or even more recent as Crystal skull which st it's cores was at least original. This was nothing originally thought you just copy/paste **** avd I'll not watch another Disney movie or show. Asking as identity politics are involved

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They should change the title of this movie to Fleabag and the Dial of Destiny. As she is the star of this movie and Indy is just the sidekick. The movie starts out actually good for about 20 minutes. You have a de-aged Harrison Ford that looks pretty good. This is about the only time watching this trash it felt like an Indiana Jones film. after that we get old cranky get off my lawn Indiana Jones who i don't want to see. Everything in Indiana Jones is life is bad and in the crapper. he's just a miserable old man. we are quickly introduced to the real Star of this dumpster fire Helena. This movie is all about her at the end and she saves the day while Indy is pretty much laying down the entire 3rd act wanting to die. The plot is stupid, this movie was only made to replace Indiana Jones with a Woman. Thats its only purpose.
I hate this movie to its core and Lucus film has yet again, destroyed another beloved franchise.
Who the hell wants to go to see an Indiana Jones movie that's all about making him look miserable and being replaced. well at least their arent any franchises left for Lucas films to kill.

When will Hollywood, in all their Wisdom and Grandeur, the moral lighthouses of our time, stop trying to teach us what to think, what to say and what words to use. In history this was tried 2 times: under Stalin and under the fachists. Both time they miserably failed.

The final nail in the coffin
At 14:40 today I entered a semi-deserted theatre to watch the final (?) installment of the Indiana Jones saga. What followed was a tediously long series of action set-pieces, in which the titular character is dragged either by Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character and her annoying sidekick, or by the bad guys. The opening scene with de-aged Indy was particularly unsettling.
I felt no chemistry between Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Harrison Ford. And apart from the interaction between Harrison Ford and Karen Allen, the other scenes are too loud, uncanny, and ultimately dreary.
Sadly the soundtrack, scored by John Williams himself, feels very forgettable, frequently reusing themes from the other movies, which take you out of a scene.
Joyless, shallow, and dismal are the adjectives that best describe how I felt as I left the cinema after two hours and 30 minutes. I hate the Crystal Skull film, but at least I like the scene in the '50s café. I have no good memories of the Dial of Destiny, and I don't want to watch this ever again.

So how many nazis does it take before you get sick of that theme interwoven into most of the Indi adventures . Ok so you start making us believe that the next adventure is about a knife. Oh but it's a fake. Only to find out the movie is about time travel. Really. To give you an idea how bad the movie was received by the theater audience no one laughed at all. When it ended my daughters boyfriend started to clap. After he applauded with a weak clap of two hands snacking each other literally NO one clapped with him which made him put his hands down. When people walked out of this half empty theater on 3 days after it's release with dead silence what does that tell you.

And the ending is just pathetic, the scholarly Greeks of Archimedes and the war-loving cruel Romans. ... Instilling the trampy feeling throughout the film that the Nazis are the Romans and the American government, just speechless... forget about Professor Indy being fawned over by the beautiful students...

Denial of Destiny
About two minutes into the movie a younger Indiana Jones stands to face death (the great unknown mystery) from the gallows in a Nazi infected castle. It makes you hold your breath for about two seconds then after that it's like watching a computer game.
The art of film that made the first three movies such a thrill and joy to watch it lost somewhere in the endless use of CGI as well as the story line.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny had all the right element to make him go out on a high. Time travel as the Macguffin is a great idea, but is however lost in confusion. All characters lack personality and vision. They are all over the place as well as our heroes who is basically being rushed from one scene to another by plane, car, boat, train and tuk-tuk's.
And my biggest question of all: what happens to Indy's murder charges?
I'll give it one star for the music. Helena's Theme is nothing but amazing.
Indiana rode into the sunset with his dad, Sallah and Marcus Brody in 1989. That's my denial of destiny!

Indy was also a beloved treasure hunter that got ram fu*ked by, you guessed it, a "strong female character", who will take his position.
I am done with new movies, this whole day and age is screwed beyond repair...
Why is it so hard to create female characters which are good, and not make the entire premise of that character gender based ????

Where are characters like Ripley, Ashoka, Gwen Stacy, Interprete (Evil Dead Rise),Liara (Mass Effect) ????

Imagine if you will, the 'hero's journey', that gold standard of storytelling, being not only forgotten, but forcibly ejected from the narrative spacecraft. The unintended astronaut of this saga? The insufferable, distressingly misandrist, Phoebe Waller. There's an air of tedium and an undercurrent of de-masculinization, as if the very ghosts of Lucas and Spielberg are being asked to undergo some sort of narrative vasectomy. The movie acts less as a continuation of a beloved franchise, and more as a jumping-off point into the unfathomable abyss of gender politics and cry for communist rule.

The initial 16 minutes offer a glimmer of hope, a tantalizing mirage in an arid desert of mediocrity. Beyond that, however, we're left navigating the barren wasteland of Waller's backstory. Indiana Jones, that emblem of adventure and antiquarian bravado, is left to bear witness to his own cinematic emasculation. The whole affair has less in common with a thrilling tale of archaeological adventure, and more with an overlong and unrequested psychoanalytical session by the mediocre of Kathleen Kennedy.
