The first half is a generic and dull slog -- barely showcasing the visual flourishes director Sam Raimi is known for. You would be forgiven for questioning why a director of Raimi's caliber was required at all.

However, with the second half, Doctor Strange 2 remembers this is a Sam Raimi film, and the director is allowed to utilize his knack for weird, funny horror in ways that feel right at home for the director of Evil Dead. Still, even at its best, Doctor Strange 2 is a middling effort for Marvel -- coming no where near reaching the heights of Sam Raimi's terrific Spider-Man films.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The handover from Iron Man to Doctor Strange is not a simple transit of the trust from technoscience to spirituality: Marvel's spirituality is that of a Potter for the millennials (as well as the recent "The Batman" was a "Twilight" for the 40-year-olds), magic requires formulas, mysticism demands ritualistic arts, spells and sorceries must be carried out with ridiculous maneuvers of arms and hands that have nothing to share with naked and pure magical thinking. In parallel, the phantasmagoric explosion of the Raimi's staging corresponds to a miserable impoverishment of the motivations of the characters reduced to a spit, this time the entire multiverse is at risk because of a woman unable to live with the parental mourning of her two children. And the most terrifying thing about the film is the conclusive judgment expressed: "Sometimes, I do wonder about my other lives. Yet I remain grateful in this one, even with its tribulations." They always believe they are saving the world with their superpowers by renouncing to change it for the better: Disney opposes the Eleventh Thesis on Feuerbach and divulges dystopia.

The focus is on Wanda's arc which is the same arc she went through in WandaVision. It always felt like Doctor Strange is just there to tell wanda to stop because he is incapable of stopping her in any way. So he is just there telling her to stop. And he does not really have an arc that expands on the first movie or from his decision in endgame and infinity war. The movie hints that maybe it was gonna be about questioning doctor strange's morals but it doesn't. The focus is always on whether wanda will realize the end does not justify the means and never explores the kind of man doctor strange is in any way. Expand

Entertaining, better than the first one but too much points that are WTF, like the fight between Wanda and the Illuminati, the freaking horrible cgi for Strange's third eye and his character development completely **** up.
Before he was so cold blooded for order that said "I will not hesitate to get you and your kid killed if that is necessary to protect the time stone"...and now:

Wanda: "can I have that girl that you don't even know and can't even relate cause you don't have chidren so I can get the **** away from this universe and I won't be a mass murdering trouble?"

Strange: "ahah no"

Seems logic, ah yeah and there's even that scene of America and Strange like:

America: "I can't control my powers!"
Strange: "no you can"
America: "ah ok"
"proceed to beat Wanda that was invincible for the 99,9% of the movie.

Ah yes and Strange is completely USELESS for all the movie.

I think a lot of us were expecting something like Spider-man: NWH with more multi-versal travel, variants and cameos. We got one parallel universe, 1 dead universe and one montage. We got a handful of variants and a couple cameos of character we mostly don't care about or may never see again. The trailer ruined the best cameo.
I like how Strange's relationship with Christine was handled and wrapped up.
I liked the villain and her motives, even if a little over the top at points.
That big cameo fight was the best part of the movie.
Overall, a ok movie that could have been so much more.

The reveal that Wanda was the villian in the plot was lackluster and confusing since I didn’t watch WandaVision on Disney+ and her motivations made no sense. There is little to none to enjoy in this movie if you don't like Wanda's character or Rami's directorial style. I was interested in Doctor Strange's character / story / growth and the "madness of the multiverse" - both of which were not present in a movie that should have been about them.
Yes, one could argue, that there was the "he has to be the one in charge" and the lesson was he "needs to let go of the knife" but it fell flat as it was repeated and not really shown how he learned it.

I thought this movie was alright. Definitely not my favourite Marvel movie, not even my favourite in this Phase of Marvel movies, but it definitely wasn't as bad as people are saying it is.

The ending felt a bit rushed, with some character arcs not closing off, and if you look at it as a legitimate horror movie it definitely falls flat. However, if you look at it as a Doctor Strange sequel, a WandaVision sequel, or an evolution of Loki's Multiverse crisis, despite some story threads not being utilised as well as they could be, it's a slightly spooky, family-friendly movie with a really fun premise and brilliant acting, not to mention a good step forward in the wider MCU.

Third scene, the fight with the giant octo-squid, and the latina aka America Chavez hasn't a scratch out of it, and she's just brimming with entitled confidence. And later when Strange says "America doesn't have long" (when she's in peril) you can't help but notice the double entendre. Then there's this whole magni-terrible Scarlet Witch who's really just a sweet mom at heart so we're being schooled that even the most terrible person in the multiverse has the heart of a mom. It seems very kid-friendly Disney in its pollyannish optimism in the face of dire circumstances. The whole tunnel chase scene doesn't make sense given the magical power in play here. And there was a fair amount of magical book burning/destruction so is that book-industry messaging? Finally, how's it take three different attempts by the SW to drain America of her power - oh wow, is that a China draining America of its global power metaphor?! - over such a long period that provides enough time for Dr Strange to intervene. And these drainings apparently aren't cumulative which doesn't make sense. It's just so blatantly the-story-must-permit-the-good-guys-to-win regardless of plausibility. I'm sure if you're ages 10-15 you'll think this is just the best movie ever, but for the rest of humanity it's just CGI silliness. Tagline: I watched Multiverse of Madness and feel qualified as a family crisis counselor now. Expand

Raimi’s direction did feel refreshing as a larger part of the MCU but not enough to override the constant cliches, conveniences, and just plain stupid actions of the characters. A small example of this is a scene I’ll describe in an analogy to keep it spoiler free. There’s a bad guy robbing a store. The clerk behind the counter tells the bad guy the other clerk is armed. The robber proceeds to shoot the other clerk. Why would you ever tell the bad guy who was armed? Stuff like this happens constantly in the film. Other complaints is that the villain was too powerful, America Chavez was heavily underutilized, the CGI seemed off (jarringly so) and unnecessary in places, and so on. C-/D+ Expand

Kudos for making Captain Marvel even more annoying than Brie Lawson's. I didn't think that was possible. Good news is she gets killed, lol. All hail the Scarlet Witch! She's my new favorite Marvel superhero. So 0 for the Dr. Strange movie, but it's balanced by an 8 for the Scarlet Witch movie.

Rest of the movie was lame. I still don't know who the Hispanic chick is and why is she named America? Or who Rachel McAdams was playing.

Do they explain why everyone has a cancre? I honestly don't know if i'll finish it.

Oh and Jim Fantastic = mom's spaghetti, lol!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Should’ve called it ‘The Wanda Movie’ or ‘Scarlett Witch The Movie’ as this was dominated by her. As usual, Disney knocks the main character (as long as it’s a male non-pov character) for woke points. But I’m focused on the issues with this movie. Firstly, it wiped out WandaVision in many ways. Secondly, it has and creates many plot holes. The only thing that is good here is how amazing the VFX looks in the movie. Saw it in IMAX & it is a beautiful movie. I wish it was more like the first with a singular plot. This seems to have 3 plots and then the usual tie-ins for other Marvel movies thrown in everywhere. I gave the first movie a 9. This just wasn’t as good at all. Expand

It goes without saying there's plenty of CGI laden effects present and a fair 'dollop' of action and tense moments throughout but I admit I'm no Marvel afficiando and so I didn't really follow the various intricacies where the various characters are concerned. I felt a bit disconnected to this film compared to what I remember of the first one, due to it being so centered away from the 'real world' (in New York or wherever) and more set in the various Marvel universes, as the title alludes to. I did enjoy it for the basic entertainment value but I imagine big fans of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) would enjoy this more than me. Even so, I reckon this film desveres a 3 star rating at the least. Benedict Cumberbatch gives a pretty decent performance, given the script and everything. It's hardly great but it's certainly ok. If your really into these kinds of films then yes I'd say it's worth seeing, if not then perhaps not, that's about all I can say really. Expand

After making my way through Wanda vision and so many other marvel films with Dr strange playing a lead supporting role, this felt like a missed opportunity to not just tell a great story but a timeless one. Marvel's attempt to make more mature movie results in a rushed movie with forced darkness which is too dark for the typical marvel audience yet quite not dark enough for the mature audience. I will not deny that the movie has its moments but those are over way before the climax. The use of cameos has been terrible in the movie. The way Illuminati are introduced and killed is just preposterous. Whenever they tried building up an epic scene, they destroyed the intensity with crappy and cheesy jokes every time. The film soars when Sam Raimi is let loose and able to inject his horror style into it, and the film falls flat when its falls back into the same tired bland MCU formula. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. That was a surprisingly mediocre Marvel Movie. My brother whispered the plot of "WandaVision" to me during the movie, so that I could understand it. I really hate that we now have to have a Dinsney+ account to follow the Marvel Movies. That is a really greedy move, and if that continues, I'll be very pissed. The pacing felt really off. The first half was way too fast, Wanda as a villain felt really odd. The plot, America and Wanda's evilness all came out of nowhere. Wanda was a good villain because she was a horrifying threat, but her motivation felt so half-assed. And do Americans not feel stupid when they create a character that is called "America" and shoots stars?!
The fights were good though. Especially the one with music notes (you'll know after you watched). And I liked the Illuminati, but a lot of viewers don't even know Black Bolt.
The film really felt weird compared to other Marvel movies. I would not recommend it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie was well interesting, to say the least.
1. Firstly Strange arc was pretty damn weird in the movie to what his arc was shown in avengers first dr strange and nwh tbh. 2. Wanda's situation is similar to Strange's. We understand that she is evil because the Darkhold has corrupted her, but we don't understand why she decided to use the book or if she knew the consequences of doing so. If she knew it would corrupt her, why did she do it? And so on there are a lot of answered questions. And goes contrary to what she learned in Wandavision
3. Next American Chavez was too interesting. There wasn't much character to her and we did not get who she is and what motivates her the movie is just 126 min and am sure they could have added another 5-10 min to explain her character in much more detail.
4. The direction of the movie too was meh tbh and story was more or less flat.
5.The movie was hyped way too much, a lot was shown in the trailers there was just too much hype and the movie failed to reach the hype

Anyway that's my opinion enjoy the movie and have your own opinion :)

Benedict Cumberbach returns as the mystical magician and is joined by a few other heroes, all of whom only have gestural powers, which means their conflicts have them slinging fierce rays at each other. After a fun opening sequence involving a giant one-eyed octopus, the rest of the action takes place among various types discussing the multiverse a lot. Eventually, they spend their time in a massive quantity of attractive visual effects. While the pacing never lags, the confusing mythology and noisy battles eventually merge into one long, unexciting fracas. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall a disappointment. There's definitly some things to like, like adventuring through the multi verse, and Dr Strange is as charming as ever. The visuals are amazing, and it's cool to see some of the crossovers that the multi verse allows for. I really liked the advanced tech world that they showed off. But then, there are many more negative things that just destroy suspension of disbelief, so many bog standard writing cliches. For starters, the intro pulled the old, "omg, high steaks intro, lol no just a dream" cliche. Sometimes characters are stupid for no reason as part of the painfully telegraphed "horror" moments. In one scene Dr Strange and co. are running from Wanda, who is destroying blast doors 2 meters behind them, but they all stop for no reason after closing a bigger door. And it holds in silence on them just standing there doing nothing for 20 seconds. Then Wanda reappears, and they keep running. There are times when the movie tries to fake out a horrible monster right around the corner, but they try way too hard such that all fakeouts are very obvious. The movie also struggles with power creep. Wanda is plain and simple OP. However, she only uses many of her OP abilities one time and then never again for some reason. She can create entire illusory worlds around people. She can snap peoples necks remotely. She can easily make peoples mouths, and presumably noses, disappear. She can charm weak minded people. She can summon giant lovcraftian monsters to great effect. She can appear as a giant demon monster. However, she only used each of these once, and never again, except for the monsters, which she used twice in the beginning and never again. In most of her battles, she still defaults to pew pew laser bolt hands or occasionally remotely tossing people. And the ending is kinda bad. The whole movie we are told the evil book corrupts whoever uses it, but then Strange does and is fine, save a third eye. Strange at one point is losing to a mass of spirits, but then a side character reminds him that he's got magic, as if he forgot, but then he suddenly wins. The "character growth" is spoiled from the beginning of the film, so there's no real payoff. And OP Scarlet Witch is defeated by a small girl walking up and pushing Wanda through a portal, and Wanda does basically nothing to stop it. Expand

The movie felt as though it could not decide on it's tone and by no means felt like a sequel to the first Doctor Strange movie tonal wise. Most people can wait to see this on Disney+, and really only if you're trying to see all of the Marvel films. Don't worry though, there is absolutely ZERO horror in this film, despite everyone calling it "Marvel's first horror" or "creepy". Maybe this would be horror or creepy back in the 50's, but this is nothing, even compared to Raimi's previous works. Expand

Horror films are inappropriate for small children - and there are many Marvel fans that are children. Allowing your writer and director for this film to go this dark and violent was irresponsible. Please rethink this direction. If not, then goodbye. Expand

Terrible writing, horrible disservice to -what used to be- great characters, cheesy one-liners that felt like they belonged in a 90s action-flick, and an overall campy-in-a-bad-way tone that continuously pulled me out of the experience. ATerrible writing, horrible disservice to -what used to be- great characters, cheesy one-liners that felt like they belonged in a 90s action-flick, and an overall campy-in-a-bad-way tone that continuously pulled me out of the experience. A shame, cause the acting is once again top notch by all the main suspects, the visual effects are a lot of fun, and even the random cameos feel surprising. There was a lot of potential here but, alas, it became a mess. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was scared, when I heard about the reshoots and changing the story because the director change. It's a good Sam Raimi movie, with Horror like Moon Knight but it doesn't fell like a Doctor Strange Movie. Also the Title "Multiverse of Madness" is wrong. This Movie is a sequel to WandaVision, that's all. The characters travel just a few times in the Multiverse and that is not even the plot. The Plot is "Wanda has to let go his Kids". And the movie doesn't have a end. Yeah it's MCU but Doctor Strange 2 isn't really a Movie. It's a "trailer" for the future projects. You should watch the Movie on Disney plus, sorry. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros
-A clear theme that runs through the film
-Excellent directing and CG
Cons
-A psychopathic villain who cannot understand the background story in the play and cannot empathize with the reasons for actions.
-Insult for Marvel's popular characters like Blackbolt, Professor X
-Boring action scenes (The strongest sorcerer on Earth is struggling to defeat an octopus that doesn't seem very strong. What a joke.)
-Just trying to fill holes in the plot with a multiverse

Not as good as the first, editing was very sloppy. Some fights were cool but felt very greenscreen.
