Poirot without mustache

I'm a big fan of AC's book, and it's always interesting to watch movies based on her books.
I really like how they softly remake this legendary novel using not only modern CG(that was actually bad) but story adaptation for younger generation.

First - more drama for Poirot. It's really great that film tries to tell us the story of Poirot and made him more human than only cold detective. Not all things how they show him I like, but in general it was great and it's fresh.

Second - new characters and story are more modern and... it's good. I like acting and main idea how they adapt novel and mix with Poirot storyline.

Third - I don't like CG in this film, it's so poor and starnge. Awful, but costumes and ship were good. Also some controversial background changes - like women in crew that carry luggage and body, it looks really strange and even ridiculos.

All in all film was good, I like actors, and adapted story that is the core for detective.

Nothing like a murder mystery to stimulate the brain. Plot was somewhat off-beat. Acting was moderate. Location filming was a pleasure to watch. Overall an enjoyable movie.

Contrary to what I read here, I found this movie quite entertaining. I have never read any Agatha Christie books, but after that, I am interested for more. The casting was pretty on point (that moustache though) and the plot was also pretty decent

Stylish to a fault and beautifully shot on location in Egypt, this tale of murder and mayhem aboard an elegant 1930s Nile riverboat features the insightful sleuthing of Belgian detective Hercule Poirot as he investigates the death of a young heiress. Told much in the style of other films featuring this storied protagonist, the film follows Poirot's meticulous scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the crime, including his fabled witty and hard-edged interrogations of an array of suspects, all of whom have agendas that could potentially make them the killer. While this version of the story features impeccable production values and is generally well acted (including a fine ensemble cast and Branagh's engaging turn in the lead role, his second such outing as Poirot), the picture nevertheless suffers from occasional pacing issues that could have benefitted from some modest editing. Nevertheless, this whodunit is an otherwise-pleasant way of spending a few hours at the movies on a lazy weekend afternoon. It may not overwhelm audiences with its brilliance, but it's certainly enough to tickle one's fancy for lavish settings, exotic locales and a good old-fashioned crime drama. Expand

Death on the Nile is some-what better than the first film. Kenneth Branagh steals the show more this time as the sleuth Hercule Poirot. With, even a backstory to why he has that silly mustache.
Death in the Nile is sexier, more engaging and nicer to look at than Murder on the Orient Express. Emma Mackey as Jacqueline de Bellefort stands out the most from the supporting cast. As a femme fatale like character who wants back her ex Simon Doyle (Armie Hammer).
Who was stolen from her by her former good friend Linnett Ridgeway (Gal Gadot). Linnett is targeted while on cruise down the Nile. Linnett thinks Jacqueline is involved since she finds them where ever they go. The couple recruit Poirot to talk to her about leaving them alone.
During the cruise there’s a murder and it is up to Poirot to figure out who on board is the murderer. Though the first film ended with Poirot already told about the murder on the Nile, this film ignores that.
Death on the Nile isn’t as good as Knives Out but it is a good watch for those looking for more mysteries like Knives Out

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was an awesome thrillingly intriguing murder mystery, The story was good and the pacing was decent although it takes little time to settle all characters and motives, The music was good and the visuals and the era's setting it was stunning, The cast was great and the acting decent, The killers hints from starting was pretty clear but the way it's showcased as everyone is fair and equal suspect because of jealousy and money and some of them were ex-lovers and commies too, The murderers reveal was literally surprising, some scenes of animals sudden attacks throughout the movie was an nice detail, The starting with The detective his journey was great from war hero with disable face to a detective with lost love the acting of kenneth was amazing, The bar scene at start with simon and jack's dance/engagement and then the linnet's entry and her dance with simon and then the rest of Characters meet at hotel in wedding of linnet and simon while detective joins with bouch (He was sweet character) then the jack's still in love with simon and her following of couple through whole journey (it was obvious from 1st but still surprising) then the couple changes the hotel trip to ships journey for staying away from jack and then she still enters in ship with ticket causing the drama between the 3 and the jack's shooting simon while he tells that he doesn't love her and then the linnet's murder it was getting intriguingly awesome from then, The investigation of detective and the suspects as everyone and the talks which reveals personal secrets of characters and while all that the 2nd murder was shocking and then while in between suspect talk the bouc's revealing him spotting dead body before everyone and he saw killer while 2nd murder happened and when he's about to say his death by shot was mind-blowing and surprising the reaction of detective was emotional, Then at last all people in one room and detective's breaking down the killers intensions and plans and the reveal of killers as simon and jack it was awesome and there both plan of killing while being injured/in front of others it was brilliant move and then the end with both killing each other it was a great end, Overall it was entertainingly amazing movie. Death indeed, more than I expected

It was a cute one, but something lacked, I couldn't figure. I liked the previous one better, I don't know why. I can't find the missing ingredient, maybe it's the dryness of the situations, or the killings.

For what it's worth, wonderful music choices and great quote material, I had to pause it very often to collect. The cast was great as well, so it's kudos anyway for Kenneth! Great work, I hope he will not stop with this saga!

It is a sequel to “Murder on the Orient Express” and is based on the novel with the same name by the queen of crime and detective stories Agatha Christie. It gets really good when the cruise started and it is an intense murder mystery with a remarkable plot. When all parts of the puzzles are brought together it is a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Overall I am divided how to rate it. The beginning is slow and weaker. Maybe even in a way that others quit before it got good. However the later half is clearly a 10/10 for me. I give a 7/10 because it is too good to be a yellow rating (= average on Metacritic). Expand

Let's get the obvious out of the way, the cast is great and Kenneth is still phenomenal as Hercule Poirot. The cinematography is still great as well and I just love how the colours pop out in its vibrancy.

In terms of improvements, the cast and list of suspects is way less than in the first film. Due to this, we get to spend a bit more time knowing them. Secondly, how the clues are presented is way more effective and clearer than in the first film. This allows us the audience to easily digest the information so we can solve the mystery as well. Unfortunately, the characters still aren't very interesting and I still forget the names of the characters. Likewise, the pacing is a bit slow and it even takes over an hour before the murder and investigation even begin. There is also a ridiculous stupid origin segment for Poirot's moustache which I just find so silly and made the movie longer than it needed to be. Although, this might be me personally but I find that it is very obvious who the culprit of the murder is. The film does do a lot of red herrings and misdirects but it isn't enough to make me change who I thought the culprit was. Overall, significantly better than Murder on the Orient Express (2017). It is a more engaging mystery this time and the resolution feels more earned and less convoluted. If you like murder mysteries then this is a good one to watch.

Brand was surprisingly good, very believable, in his role.

The film also features some nice sunset/sunrise type shots, which I liked. The plot is a bit 'messy' I'd say. Quite a lot is covered but im not sure every question that the film raises is fully answered. It's certainly a relatively entertaining film - I suppose it is fairly atmospheric, although by no means a particularly substantial film, its good enough to pass the time and it's worth a watch if the cast interests you. Also, of course, it goes without saying that if you don't care for Brannagh's interpretation of Poirot's accent, then this will bother you and you may be better looking for an alternative film.

It felt a bit cliched but, accent aside, its pretty watchable and alright in general.

Some characters aren't as fleshed out as they should be, definitely leaving one with the feeling that we missed something crucial; the plot also progresses slowly for the first half, but when Death on the nile gets sailing, oh did it sail.

I'll have to add that Gal Gadot's acting was a low point for the movie, as against the other cast members she pales considerably.

Great movie but it could be greater!?

Great movies but just okay for the mystery crime movies. In my POV, Death on the Nile (2022) should be greater than the previous movie Murder on the Orient Express (2017) which is based on the novel of the same author by Agatha Christie. I've had some expectations based on the excellent quality of Murder on the Orient Express (2017) which was directed by the same director, Kenneth Branagh. Apparently, their quality is different for me as someone that didn't read the novel or watch the early novel adaptation before. Death on the Nile (2022) is directed through 2 hr 7 min with the cast named Kenneth Branagh, Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright. Emma Mackey as the new cast is one of the reasons why the movie is intriguing. I've entertained too through the character's thick accents and their fancy words.

The pros of this movie are the great story and actors, the entertaining genre as a mystery crime movie, and the insightful movie. The story is semi-predictable for me which half of my hypothesis was right but still not the entirety right. The actors are really great, especially Emma Mackey who really stole the show as new cast and Kenneth Branagh is always excellent as the old cast of Hercule Poirot. The genre is one of my typical which is entertaining to analyze and makes a hypothesis about problem-solving. The movie is really insightful for informative details of the storyline and well-interpreted for social knowledge about the Bourgeoisie society. The cons of this movie are the narration of every character seems didn't convincing enough as the murdering motives and the cinematography seems pretty dull. The narration of every character must be convincing enough for a mystery crime movie and sadly it didn't. The cinematography is pretty dull and unrealistic visual through a poor green screen which may be because of low budget production. Overall, Death on the Nile is a mediocre movie and still worth watching if didn't expect anything for mystery crime movies.
