TL;DR - Fun, fast, gory, dark humor, witty with good performances, and decent action. If this combination sounds like you will have fun, you will have fun and then some. A little sag here and there but the quiet moments are welcome as the movie was surprisingly fast-paced for most of it.

Do not go in expecting a John Wick-type watch considering the director, just go in as you did the first time you ever watched John Wick, you did not expect the experience but enjoyed it by the end.

The Good

Aaron Taylor near steals the show out from everyone, I will be keeping an eye on his work going forward.

I was surprised by his performance in Nocturnal Animals but his bigger Marvel performance always stuck out in my head. With this film, I no longer see him as the Quicksilver from Avengers AOU, but as a good versatile actor I enjoy watching.

Pitt kept up the entire film, bringing in a very 'just done with this but can't stop doing it' performance, I genuinely enjoyed his version of the 'wants to get out of the life' vibe he kept throughout the movie.

It was a great performance and I am glad it was not just a John Wick facsimile where Pitt is a retired badass and just decimates everything in his path but rather an accidental badass who is just quick on his feet, sometimes not so quick.

Brian, Koji, and Sanada, and Joey King make a great supporting cast with Brian having the largest role of them all, the comedy also works well for the most part, but wherever the comedy doesn't work the movie just keeps a good pace that you don't really dwell on it, there is always something that works around the bend.

The story is not really the point here, and that works well for the type of movie it is trying to be, fast, fun, and fck3d up in many places.

The Bad

There is just a little bit of sag that kind of lingers around here and there throughout, and the third act may have gone a little bit overboard but not so far out there that it ruins the experience. Although the movie would definitely have been a more streamlined experience with 10 or maybe 15 minutes shaved off.

Some parts of the plot may be considered a little convoluted and convenient, but there is sort of an in-story explanation for the same which kind of works, but if you are someone who needs everything to make sense in a movie you will probably find it grating.

Conclusion

After 2 of my previous theatre watches JW Dominion and Thor L&D and really not enjoying them both, this felt like a good re-charge for me and a fun theatre experience. I would suggest everyone go out there and give it a one-time watch, this is a fun group watch with friends.… Expand

It was pretty funny (mostly) and i enjoyed the character's personalities. Some cool references to british culture as well and the setting/plot was very good. The acting was great by all cast, the sceneries were beautifully filmed, and the story was ok but don't take it too seriously as this movie wasn't meant to beif you looking for an entertaining movie and a bit of comedy this film is for you.

This movie definitely felt like it was made by Quentin Tarantino you will understand once you watch it :)

Ah yes, I watched this a while back and was surprised by its new type of comedy style, it takes time to get used to but once you're in, your IN. This is one of the best movies Brad Pitt has been in for a while. I bet most people enjoyed the Anti-dote scene, I definitely did, I wish this movie was longer or gets a sequel. I like seeing OP characters doing absolutely nothing while the world around them shifts and changes in the plot, in some ways it makes the movie more enjoyable.

As I mentioned before it takes a bit for the movie to hit full gears. I believe this was done on purpose to add some mystery, but maybe it was a little too long, I would have enjoyed more exciting scenes, not action scenes just exciting scenes to move the plot along.

Hence, this is an 8/10 movie, you might notice that I rated John Wick 4 an 8/10 too, these are two different movies with different action and plot device styles, and this movie was close to hitting it right on the nail if some issues were fixed with the film.

I think the worst thing about this movie is the side plot with the manager or contractor person. It kind of blocks the main plot from sinking in, other than that everything else is great and enjoyable and at times funny.

More of this, please, oh next time use the time you are given wisely, this film is 2 hours, try to get to the point better, and don't convolute the plot so much, just make it flow and have fun.… Expand

This is a REALLY fun fast paced funny movie and the cinemaphotography is surprisingly good.
This film kept me on my toes the entire time and is a thrill to watch for the first time I LOVE IT! This movie has it all.

There’s some sense that Bullet Train is going through the motions of smashing two different genres together–ensemble cast shoot ’em ups, like Free Fire (2016) or The Gentlemen (2019) or (sigh, forgive me) Gunpowder Milkshake (2021) with train movies, like Snowpiercer (2013) and Train to Busan (2016). In some ways, I think Bullet Train is already situated in a tradition of mashup genre ensemble movies like Highrise (2016), which took itself too seriously, and attempted to capitalize on the success of Snowpiercer to disastrous result, evidenced by the fact that you had to look up what Highrise was and wondered at how Tom Hiddleston, at the height of his Taylor Swift-Crimson Peak power, was unable to attract more than $4 million US to the theater. If you tried to sell Tom Hiddleston’s old socks after Loki last year you would’ve made more than that. For chrissakes, here’s a photo of them together. What in the actual **** could have gone so wrong with Highrise to make it that unpleasant to watch? So here we find ourselves. Reflecting on Bullet Train, the not so original marketing ploy to trick people into seeing a movie where a bunch of famous and semi-famous people beat the **** out of each other. At this point, it seems worth mentioning that David Leitch got his directing debut as a co-director in 2014 with John Wick. (Director David Leitch is someone whose work I have dutifully ignored for almost a decade, mostly to my own detriment, it seems. John Wick is a movie I have studiously avoided for many years for no reason other than I was probably busy the weekend it came out and never bothered to look it up and then the sequel came out and it became too intimidating to try to catch up?) Bullet Train does all it promises but it does it a little more tongue-in-cheek and deadpan than you were expecting. Leitch directs a movie that asks, What if Wes Anderson wanted to do a film about a bunch of assassins meeting on a train to look for a MacGuffin? And also, what if a movie didn’t have any anxiety about going very, very long on a joke, like, say, an hour long treasure chest of a joke involving a snake on the loose? What if Family Guy made a live action film but then replaced all the pop culture references with obscure psychobabble affirmations and children’s programming lessons from the 1980s?

“They don’t have to make any more movies,” Friend said. Friend added, “Tarantino wishes he had made that film.” There is so much joy contained within this vapid, bait action film: Brian Tyree Henry and his costar Aaron Taylor-Johnson shine as the Twins with their rapid fire chatter and the casting for the rest of the ensemble collects a bunch of delightful character actors from a basket of beloved, now-canceled cult classic television shows of this past decade. The formula is gold and it’s unfortunate that, as Friend says, there is no need to make movies anymore.… Expand

One of the best movies of 2022, hands down.
Lots of people see it as a serious movie, but it isnt. Its just stupid fun with a fun story, and thats how you should watch it. If you think about "thats not realistic" or "thats too brutal" or "tooOne of the best movies of 2022, hands down.

Critics definitely got this one wrong. Bullet Train has a great cast, and a solid story, and is shot well in the confines of the train which helps add to the action. Always painful to sit through a film trying too hard to be edgy. This was excruciating. Endless yammering, garbled slathering, muddled babbling, awkward preening and sword fights. His most autobiographical role to date. The script is hacky, the action cheesy, the acting atrocious, the direction kitschy. It's as if the filmmakers literally set out to make the worst trainwreck possible. Hell, this dumpster fire wasn't even filmed in Japan. Hollywood just doesn't know how to make interesting, original films anymore. At least it wasn't another cookiecutter superhero mcmovie, I'll give it that. I guess they're trying as best they can, can't ask any more from these bugs than that.… Expand

Directed by David Leitch, once again surprising in his works of action with a beautiful touch of first-rate comedy. He knows how to direct a film that will please all audiences, especially with his good relations in Hollywood. Fantastic Celebrity Cameos in one movie.

Zak Olkewicz, debuting the Californian screenplays with great competence. Zak made an excellent adaptation of the Japanese novel "Maria Beetle" by Kôtarô Isaka.

The film's art direction was masterful with anime arts and Tarantino inspirations. Leitch is a genius.

Competent cast. With Brad Pitt doing 95% of his own stunts in this film. By the way, he made a great character. Bringing even some of his attributes to the scenes. Forgotten character and smart toilet was fantastic. Nice to have the freedom to add your ideas. That's the benefit of being a close friend of your director.

Sandra Bullock did very well as a Ladybug boss. Replacing Lady Gaga was a good incident. Brian Tyree Henry and Aaron Taylor-Johnson burst in theses roles. The way the movies communicate with each other is hilarious. Joey King, as Prince in this film and as The Princess in another.

After seeing the trailer, I knew it would be a fun movie, but I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. I had a lot of fun in the two very well-crafted hours of this film.… Expand

Finally got around to see it. I hoped 'till the last minute, guys, I really did.

There are some flaws with the plot taking a while to take off due to spending a lot of flashbacks to explain all the characters and motives in the beginning. The plot is slightly convoluted and over-padded causing the film to feel much longer than necessary.

However, Bullet Train is wildly entertaining once it takes off, resulting in the most hectic action movies of the year so far. Special praise to both Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree Henry who are the most enjoyable duo in this film!… Expand

Absolutely painful to watch. I turned it off half way through. I get that this isn't made for me, but come on. It is possible to make a decent movie that appeals to a broader age spectrum.

This movie was carefully designed and crafted with the audience in mind, not the critics, it's not selling some idea to critics, or pandering to a specific audience, nor does it downtalk to its audience, it doesn't tick any of the "holier than thou" hollywood check boxes that infest productions these days (on BOTH sides of the spectrum...) This movie wasn't designed to stir the social media pot. No, this movie was shockingly designed to simply be fun, look gorgeous, and to treat the audience to a good time, do you know how rare that is with Hollywood productions these days? Meanwhile the story is not great but holy moly it's ORIGINAL, and the world they built has potential for many great sequels. Kick back with some friends for a movie night with this one and you can't go wrong imho.… Expand

Bullet train is a fun movie. The story is violent but has humour in it. The dialogues are smart and witty. The movie carry a theme about luck and bad luck, which was interesting. I'll keep this brief: Part way through I almost quit. I thought I was watching Bullet Train Wreck. A jumbles of plot lines and rapid montage backstories seemed only there to help provide extreme (silly) bloody violence.

So far nothing to complain, the problems arise with the divertissement: we have reached the Quentinian epigones of the 3rd (de-)generation, on IMDb there are those who admit that it is not clear where the references to "Reservoir Dogs" (1992) begin and where those to "Seven Psychopaths" (2012) end. In more detail, the detractors (the critics) agree with the admirers (the audience): it is a high-speed action useful for spending time havin' fun. But while the former ask themselves: "Is it all here? The evanescence of the movie goes nowhere and the train derails", the latter bulimically thank for the additional dose of carefree entertainment. As for me, I'm already satiated by Pitt's 30'' in the commercial for De'Longhi.… Expand

Let's get this out of the way. When Bullet Trains decide to be a 'kick ass' action film, with bullets, swords winging around in great set pieces, the film shines. Once it goes on to try to become 'Tarantino / Ritchie' lite, it falters. TheLet's get this out of the way. He can set up all these whiz bang things but he is essentially 'a 2nd unit director'. Dialogue driven pieces is not his strong suit, despite the incredibly stellar casts involved. Pacing and tone was all over the place, and if the flick was tightened to 100 minutes or less, then it would have been a decent '7 or more'.… Expand

I'm shocked that this movie has so many negative reviews. I was quite entertained the whole time. The story was well thought out and had some nice twists. The humor worked for me. Acting and cinematography were both great. Yeah, it's a good movie.

C’est en effet un vrai supplice de beauferie et d’humour très con branchouille de mes couilles, du genre qui s’écoute parler, déborde de prétention et rit à ses propres clins d’oeil fatigués et usés jusqu’à la corde… alors qu’il pète simplement au dessus de son cul de bobo peigne-cul.

Car tout ici est usé et déjà vu, alors que la non-histoire, le non-scénario tentent de nous faire croire à un film qui n’en est pas un… Rien ne tient debout dans ce merdier, rien du tout… et la connerie tous azimuts n’incite pas à l’indulgence, ni à la curiosité… Même pas la peine de finir ce film, ce serait du temps perdu ! ça ne vaut même pas un (vieux) poil de cul, cette merde.… Expand

Somewhat obvious hints of Deadpool and Tarantino esque action, but for me it was very entertaining all the way through. The fight scene weren't so obviously choreographed like the John Wick films with a good balance of serious and ridiculous.
