Critics are so wrong about this one, this is a fun movie with some great action and funny moments throughout. A great time from start to end. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It's fun and irreverent, and some fights and action sequences are very cool, although the story is very convoluted. Still more engaging than 'The Gray Man.'

This movie is reviews it does not deserve. This is a fast, fun and has great comedic timing. Thoroughly enjoyed all the characters and how each one is intertwined with the other. Also the cast is great! They all did a great job. A must watch!

Let's get this out of the way. When Bullet Trains decide to be a 'kick ass' action film, with bullets, swords winging around in great set pieces, the film shines. Once it goes on to try to become 'Tarantino / Ritchie' lite, it falters. TheLet's get this out of the way. Once it goes on to try to become 'Tarantino / Ritchie' lite, it falters. The problem is...this is a film that relies on the latter and you can see Leitch's weaknesses as a 'Director'. He can set up all these whiz bang things but he is essentially 'a 2nd unit director'. Dialogue driven pieces is not his strong suit, despite the incredibly stellar casts involved. Pacing and tone was all over the place, and if the flick was tightened to 100 minutes or less, then it would have been a decent '7 or more'.… Expand

Heart! Fun, well-shot action. Well written characters that we learn to care about. But most shockingly, It has heart! Every main character has an emotional beat I'm invested in!

Better than I expected. Not a great movie, but a fun afternoon matinee that doesn't make you think. Brad Pitt has fun making fun of his pretty boy image. Lots of people see it as a serious movie, but it isnt. Its just stupid fun with a fun story, and thats how you should watch it. If you think about "thats not realistic" or "thats too brutal" or "tooOne of the best movies of 2022, hands down.

I hate movies that make me strain to interpret a fast talking dialect. This film was chucked full of it. Agree with some it had it's funny moments & decent fight scenes but the overall premise was a bit much. Bullet train is a fun movie. The story is violent but has humour in it. The dialogues are smart and witty. The movie carry a theme about luck and bad luck, which was interesting. I'll keep this brief: Part way through I almost quit. I thought I was watching Bullet Train Wreck. A jumbles of plot lines and rapid montage backstories seemed only there to help provide extreme (silly) bloody violence.

This movie was carefully designed and crafted with the audience in mind, not the critics, it's not selling some idea to critics, or pandering to a specific audience, nor does it downtalk to its audience, it doesn't tick any of the "holier than thou" hollywood check boxes that infest productions these days (on BOTH sides of the spectrum...) This movie wasn't designed to stir the social media pot. No, this movie was shockingly designed to simply be fun, look gorgeous, and to treat the audience to a good time, do you know how rare that is with Hollywood productions these days? Meanwhile the story is not great but holy moly it's ORIGINAL, and the world they built has potential for many great sequels. Kick back with some friends for a movie night with this one and you can't go wrong imho.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There’s some sense that Bullet Train is going through the motions of smashing two different genres together–ensemble cast shoot ’em ups, like Free Fire (2016) or The Gentlemen (2019) or (sigh, forgive me) Gunpowder Milkshake (2021) with train movies, like Snowpiercer (2013) and Train to Busan (2016). In some ways, I think Bullet Train is already situated in a tradition of mashup genre ensemble movies like Highrise (2016), which took itself too seriously, and attempted to capitalize on the success of Snowpiercer to disastrous result, evidenced by the fact that you had to look up what Highrise was and wondered at how Tom Hiddleston, at the height of his Taylor Swift-Crimson Peak power, was unable to attract more than $4 million US to the theater. If you tried to sell Tom Hiddleston’s old socks after Loki last year you would’ve made more than that. For chrissakes, here’s a photo of them together. What in the actual **** could have gone so wrong with Highrise to make it that unpleasant to watch? So here we find ourselves. Reflecting on Bullet Train, the not so original marketing ploy to trick people into seeing a movie where a bunch of famous and semi-famous people beat the **** out of each other. At this point, it seems worth mentioning that David Leitch got his directing debut as a co-director in 2014 with John Wick. (Director David Leitch is someone whose work I have dutifully ignored for almost a decade, mostly to my own detriment, it seems. John Wick is a movie I have studiously avoided for many years for no reason other than I was probably busy the weekend it came out and never bothered to look it up and then the sequel came out and it became too intimidating to try to catch up?) Bullet Train does all it promises but it does it a little more tongue-in-cheek and deadpan than you were expecting. Leitch directs a movie that asks, What if Wes Anderson wanted to do a film about a bunch of assassins meeting on a train to look for a MacGuffin? And also, what if a movie didn’t have any anxiety about going very, very long on a joke, like, say, an hour long treasure chest of a joke involving a snake on the loose? What if Family Guy made a live action film but then replaced all the pop culture references with obscure psychobabble affirmations and children’s programming lessons from the 1980s?

“They don’t have to make any more movies,” Friend said. Friend added, “Tarantino wishes he had made that film.” There is so much joy contained within this vapid, bait action film: Brian Tyree Henry and his costar Aaron Taylor-Johnson shine as the Twins with their rapid fire chatter and the casting for the rest of the ensemble collects a bunch of delightful character actors from a basket of beloved, now-canceled cult classic television shows of this past decade. The formula is gold and it’s unfortunate that, as Friend says, there is no need to make movies anymore.… Expand

Tokyo scenes in the opening sequence, meanwhile, showcased Japan's cutting-edge technology cityscape and had a strong cyberpunk vibe to them. The mascots for Japan's most well-known anime are the main way that we witness more of the country's contemporary kawaii culture throughout the train travel.… Expand

Always painful to sit through a film trying too hard to be edgy. This was excruciating. Endless yammering, garbled slathering, muddled babbling, awkward preening and sword fights. His most autobiographical role to date. The script is hacky, the action cheesy, the acting atrocious, the direction kitschy. It's as if the filmmakers literally set out to make the worst trainwreck possible. Hell, this dumpster fire wasn't even filmed in Japan. Hollywood just doesn't know how to make interesting, original films anymore. At least it wasn't another cookiecutter superhero mcmovie, I'll give it that. I guess they're trying as best they can, can't ask any more from these bugs than that.… Expand

Brad Pitt may be a little bit miscast in this, but the man's simply impossible to dislike onscreen. Add in a disarmingly bombastic finale and you get one of the more unique cinematic experiences of the year for me. In Bullet Train nothing matters. There are connections between the characters, some stupid and empty motives, and supposedly professional killers who are basically a joke. Everyone wants to kill each other, but nothing makes any sense. There are characters like the ones performed by Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman and Karen Fukuhara who don't do **** except show up for a few moments, which completely wastes them and that's not even counting the cameos by Channing Tatum, Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

As I said, since nothing really matters, there's no real use in knowing how it's all going to end, and you won't even care who lives and who dies, because yes, although it's not abundant, when the violence does appear, it's more brutal than I expected, but it's still of no use, cause the violence it ain't the climax of the show, but the punchline. This film is a mind-numbing experience. All that matters is that you go on the journey and that it entertains you enough so that you don't feel ripped off once the end comes.
And it's not that I tried to make sense of a movie that warns you from the beginning that that's not its purpose, and I get it, there are movies that are just made to be fun and goofy, it's just that that's not something that satisfies me.

I was going to give it only two stars, but it earns the extra half for what its cast does well, not what the script offered them.… Expand

Directed by David Leitch, once again surprising in his works of action with a beautiful touch of first-rate comedy. He knows how to direct a film that will please all audiences, especially with his good relations in Hollywood. Fantastic Celebrity Cameos in one movie.

Zak Olkewicz, debuting the Californian screenplays with great competence. Zak made an excellent adaptation of the Japanese novel "Maria Beetle" by KĂŽtarĂŽ Isaka.

The film's art direction was masterful with anime arts and Tarantino inspirations. Leitch is a genius.

Competent cast. With Brad Pitt doing 95% of his own stunts in this film. By the way, he made a great character. Bringing even some of his attributes to the scenes. Forgotten character and smart toilet was fantastic. Nice to have the freedom to add your ideas. That's the benefit of being a close friend of your director.

Sandra Bullock did very well as a Ladybug boss. Replacing Lady Gaga was a good incident. Brian Tyree Henry and Aaron Taylor-Johnson burst in theses roles. The way the movies communicate with each other is hilarious. Joey King, as Prince in this film and as The Princess in another.

After seeing the trailer, I knew it would be a fun movie, but I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. I had a lot of fun in the two very well-crafted hours of this film.… Expand

While seemingly attempting to be a playful action comedy in the spirit of movies like “Red” (2010), “Kingsman: The Secret Service” (2014) and the “Deadpool” franchise, “Bullet Train” instead comes across as gratuitous, nasty and mean-spirited, more like the “John Wick” offerings or the works of Quentin Tarantino, pictures that desperately stretch the meaning of “funny.” This cinematic mess tries way too hard to generate laughs but falls flat at virtually every juncture, failing to stick any of its landings. And that’s a huge disappointment given the stellar cast, including leading man Brad Pitt, whose comedic talents are wasted on a script that gives him precious little to work with. The result is a tedious, feeble, exhausting, tiresome attempt at a summertime thrill ride that tells a story not worthy of caring about, filled with repulsive characters, wholly improbable events and underwhelming special effects. Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Tangerine), I think could be another Jason Statham with his own unique persona and style.

Where John Wick is equally obsessed with death as his attackers, Pitt's floaty, unmoored character--Like Buster and Jackie--contrasts with the motivations of his attackers. Pitt leans, into the "hippie-dippie, happy-go-lucky side" of his nature.

I legitimately really liked this film. From the very beginning this movie oozes with style. The action is fantastic, the characters are well written and interesting, and the camerawork is done very well. The pacing as well as some plot pointsI legitimately really liked this film. Sometimes funny, often bloody, this film has no reason to have been made. Waste of time unless you are looking for a cinema with air conditioning on a very hot day.

Brad Pitt stars as an unlucky hit man who's assigned to acquire a suitcase on the titular Japanese transit. Of course, he runs into numerous obstacles in the form of others who have their own objectives. Of course, he runs into numerous obstacles in the form of others who have their own objectives. Echoes of Guy Ritchie are obvious with the off-kilter situations, funky characters and snappy violence. Pitt, working a goofy edge with a bucket hat and glasses, handles the action and the humor well, but it's Channing Tatum's cameo that generates the best laff (look for other familiar faces too). Director David Leitch (Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2) certainly knows his way around the genre and mostly nails it here. Even with a slight lag in the middle, there is sufficient witty dialogue with rowdy encounters to keep the movie barreling down the track.
Cool story about guest stars: Sandra Bullock made a deal with Pitt that if he'd do a small part in her latest The Lost City she'd return the favor for this film.… Expand

Absolutely painful to watch. I turned it off half way through. I get that this isn't made for me, but come on. It is possible to make a decent movie that appeals to a broader age spectrum.

Both my wife and I really liked this movie - which in itself is unusual. It reminded me of a Quentin Tarantino movie light. I liked the dialogue and the way the story circled back on itself in several spots. It's violent, witty, and funny -Both my wife and I really liked this movie - which in itself is unusual. This movie is kind of all style over substance but I didn't mind because it was really fun. There's a somewhat interesting mystery going on and a bunch of wacky characters in a train trying to murder each other. The action isn't quite as ferocious or refined as some of David Leitch's other work but I found it worked quite well and had enough prop usage in fights that it made me briefly think of Jacky Chan which is never a bad thing!. I didn't go in to this movie taking it to seriously and when the action stopped in the middle of a climactic battle to flash back and show you a brief history of a water bottles journey from being bought to ending up being used in the fight I knew this movie was the kind of dumb fun I enjoy. Maybe not his best work, a little looser and less precise but there's so much energy on display it makes up for it by just being fun.… Expand

okay, the movie isn't perfect.

It likes to use lengthy exposition a lot in the first half of the movie and it's not the funniest movie either but I would still take it over any new marvel movie ANYDAY. The action is well choreographed andokay, the movie isn't perfect.

Absurd action movie again? After Thor: Love and Thunder?

This movie is very absurd and somehow harder than Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) to understand the jokes. The director looks like wants to create a similar movie ambiance and absurd action. He may be successfully created Deadpool 2 (2018) but this movie quality is just so so than that. Jokes could be considered as pros but also cons.

The movie pros are a lot of huge casts even for cameo roles. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum look like paying their debt to Brad Pitt for his cameo role in their movie, The Lost City (2022). The movie set, costumes, and music are great.

Besides that, the movie's biggest pro is an abstract plot that is well-narrated.

Firstly, the abstract scenario is when a bunch of chars is contracted to do their own job via bullet train, a very fast train which is "bullet" as a metaphor for the train speed. Then, slowly but surely every char. Are collided in the same scenario and is forced to stay on the bullet train. The great narration is the audience is easily distracted to guess how can be all chars are related to the same scenario. A bunch of jokes are provided.

But the funny things just happen for some time. Sometimes, too many jokes and it is inappropriate which distracts emotional or intense moments. This becomes movie cons. Absurd jokes maybe could be the perfect thing for our world because there are so many bizarre and chaotic moments, but plz not too much. Even though, there were very absurd jokes which is a vivid ad for a brand that is also an unimportant story.

In my POV, movie jokes maybe a lil bit similar to Deadpool 2 (2018), Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), and The Gentlemen (2019). Gentlemen's comedy and action quality are a lil bit similar to The Gentlemen (2019) which is tend to become an elegant and sophisticated fashion.

Nevertheless, this movie is fun to watch but don't expect too much. The great cast, absurd jokes, and action are refreshing. Maybe we need that to entertain and escape our minds for a lil bit from reality. As always, I didn't expect anything before watching in the cinema. Enjoy this movie or just pass it.… Expand

Actually a very entertaining flick. A lot of bloody action mixed in with comedy relief done the right way. (take notes Waititi!) This film reminded me of the movie Snatch, which also featured Brad Pitt. If you never seen that check it out.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sometime it is difficult to understand all the terrible reviews. This is all overall a really entertaining movie. A bit of lock stock a bit of Tarantino a bit of John Wick which is not a surprise since the director was also there. Yes the story does not flow perfectly and it feels longer than it is. Yes the final train crash scene is as unlikely as in any hollywood epic, forgetting any detail of physics and reality. Yes the scenes with the japanese toilet functions feel old stuff. But in the end it is what it is i.e. an irreverent, funny, action movie with some excellent actors and characters (absolutely loved tangerine and lemon) and enough blood to fill a swimming pool and it still does not feel bad about it. Also the hints at personal crisis or therapists is interesting. For a non-english native the english version was a bit challenging so I will watch it surely again.… Expand
