Director shouldn't be blaming homophobia for a movie failing. Maybe you just made a bad movie "bro"
Also, the poster is just offensive. When do you see a movie poster with a man's hand on a woman's butt and a woman's butt on his? You don't.

Finally, FYI most rom coms fail. Blaming homophobia is divise and unnecessary. It's not that people didn't like the idea. It's that no one cares.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As someone who identifies as straight, I may not have been the target audience for "Bros." However, I believe it's important to analyze films from different perspectives. While the movie had its flaws, it did have some redeeming qualities that are worth mentioning.
One aspect that stood out was the film's cinematography. The visuals were well-executed, and certain scenes were visually captivating. The attention to detail in these moments deserves appreciation.
Moreover, "Bros" attempted to explore the side plot of a gay museum, which, although somewhat cliché, provided an interesting backdrop for the story. While it may not have been executed perfectly, it offered a unique perspective and shed light on a lesser-known aspect of LGBTQ+ culture.
It's true that the main character was portrayed as insufferable and unlikable, which hindered the overall experience. His character arc was not as impactful as it could have been, and his initial portrayal as a sexaholic didn't evolve until much later. This lack of character development made it difficult to fully invest in his journey.
Additionally, the humor in the movie didn't always hit the mark. Some jokes fell flat, while others relied on tired mom jokes. This aspect could have been improved by incorporating more clever and original humor that resonated with a broader audience.
Although "Bros" lacked a solid romance foundation, there were glimpses of genuine emotional connection between the characters. Expanding on these moments and further developing the chemistry between them could have strengthened the overall romantic aspect of the film.
In conclusion, "Bros" had its merits, particularly in terms of cinematography and its exploration of the gay museum concept. However, the unlikable main character, underwhelming character development, and hit-or-miss humor detracted from the overall experience. With more attention to these aspects and a deeper exploration of romance, the film could have reached its full potential.

This is a frank, illuminating and — most of all — funny glimpse into some of the challenges and intricacies laid at the feet of certain archetypes within the LGBT community, a realm of humankind that I know I'm nowhere near as well-versed on as I probably should be. At the end of the day, this is what movies are all about — learning about different experiences and kinds of conflict that the human condition can endure. In that, I found "Bros" to be not only entertaining, but interesting in its handling of certain matters and ways of life that I'm unfamiliar with. Again, though, the humor is the real selling point for me, with everything hinging quite steadily on Eichner's lead performance. A solid time at the theater overall. Expand

I saw the movie last night. I watched a person get up and walk out because of the rant after rant of the main character.
Further, it is not a comedy. There is only about 3 minutes of comedy in the entire movie. It does show a reflection of how many people I've met in bars rant about the unfairness of the older days. The main character is insecure and lashes out at everyone. The days he rants about most are in the past for most now in the 20's and 30's. Especially the teens. I would doubt this movie will be in the theatres any longer than the contract to show it requires. Certainly doubt it will make its production costs back.
Lastly the movie (main character) continually knocks the current present progress channels like Hallmark are making in including gay character into their movies. Something which is very inclusive and progress.

Billy Eichner is mostly annoying all the way through the movie. His character is solidly unlikable. (the dude playing his love interest is decent though. I'd like to see him in a movie that wasn't mediocre). There are probably 3 really funny scenes in the movie. One involving Debra Messing, one with 4 naked dudes blowing each other and another with a meeting of people running an LGBTQetc museum. Other than that, it's not particularly funny or worth watching. "Hey, what's up?"

"Bros" was a cute and serviceable rom-com film: While the movie isn’t anything I would call “groundbreaking,” it manages to set out and accomplish what it was aiming to do… Be a good, first gay romantic comedy from a major studio. I can feel there was a good faith effort to be as inclusive as possible with as much LGBTQ+ representation as possible and every joke was handled very thoughtfully and with care. All of the running gags about Hallmark Christmas films where amazing and I kind of wish some of them would become actual movies!

Billy Eichner was hilarious and a surprisingly good singer and Luke Macfarlane might have been a bit TOO charming! The supporting cast was incredible as well, everybody brought a bit of something to the table to make this move as funny as it was.

If I were to make a slight nitpick on "Bros," I did notice a lot of obvious dub overs before cuts when characters were speaking. All-in-all, “Bros” was a fun watch and a great film to watch in theaters with friends. 7/10

Extremely shallow. An absolute train wreck. Two leads have no personalities. They are just "types". Relationship not convincing at all. Some characters are so stereotyped to the extent that it's borderline insulting. It's ok that main character is a LGBTQ activist, but it's not ok every minute this guy is trying to lecture people (audience). This relentless push to be politically correct made the movie lack basic humanity. I don't think somebody so obsessed with being gay (we need to be reminded practically every minute) is capable of falling in love. Certainly felt like it was written and directed by people devoid of any basic understanding of cinema art. Frankly those people should not be in movie business. There are lot's of funny jokes, sometimes used to ease the tension, I have laughed a lot, but the one thing that surprised me is that this film seems more self-aware and mature than most romantic comedies. Like, I am no expert, but typically in romantic comedies there are these silly misunderstandings that cause everything to spiral out of control, but they all could have been avoided with just a tiny bit of communication. Who knows why relationships work or fail? ButWho knows why relationships work or fail? That’s especially true when it comes to gay male partnerships, which often come and go like the wind and whose permanence or fleeting nature frequently rests on the unlikeliest of considerations. But sometimes they somehow manage to survive, despite their conundrums, quirkiness and seemingly deceptive dysfunctionality. Such is the case in director Nicholas Stoller’s brilliant new romantic comedy about a pair of apparently mismatched partners who wade their way through the murky, uncharted waters of same-sex romance, a sort of gay male version of "Annie Hall" (1977). In some ways, this picture employs an adapted version of a rather tried-and-true formula of boy-gets-boy/boy-loses-boy/boy-gets-boy-back-after-a-series-of-extracurricular-flings, an approach that has earned the film its share of criticism. However, given the ways in which that basic narrative is dressed up with snappy, often-hilarious writing, ample situational and sight gags, and just the right amount of heart-tugging, inspirational drama (without becoming schmaltzy or overly preachy), the picture generally succeeds across the board. Virtually all of the humor is positively spot-on, and it’s served up in an easily relatable way such that one need not be a card-carrying member of the LGBTQ+ community to grasp the jokes. The film also features an array of appearances by gay and gay-friendly icons like Harvey Fierstein, Debra Messing and Kristin Chenoweth, a variety of cameo appearances by big name Hollywood stars, and a host of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender performers. It’s also worth noting that the film’s principal producer/distributor, Universal Pictures, deserves a hearty round of applause for taking a chance on material like this. Indeed, the backing of a romantic comedy involving alternative lifestyles by a mainstream studio is truly groundbreaking in the movie industry, and, considering the critical success that this release has already garnered, this savvy move by a major player opens the door to greenlighting future projects of a similar nature, a rich vein of material that’s just waiting to be mined and finally has a shot of making it to the big screen. Sensitive viewers should be aware that there is some explicit sexual content in this release, but, considering the comic nature of much of it, it’s hard to envision not evoking laughs from even the most conservative audience members. Given how well this offering succeeds on so many fronts, it would be a shame if it were to be overlooked come awards season, especially when it comes to its writing. It’s refreshing to see a film that finally knocks it out of the park this year – and this truly is the one to have done it. Expand

Very bad movie. I really enjoyed broke back mountain and the birdcage. Despite what the director says I'm not a weird straight person who's homophobic. This is just a trash movie.

It stars comic Billy Eichner, who's pretty much playing his usual caustic, neurotic self. He plays a New York podcaster who's happy with his carefree life until he meets an interested hunk (Luke Macfarlane).Their relationship develops on traditional lines, including the rough breakup before the final kiss. Fans of Eichner might find this enjoyable, but a little of his manic personality can go a long way. Macfarlane succeeds in being hot and charming. The film also makes a point of showcasing contemporary queer culture (sex included) and there are some famous folks mostly wasted in cameos. Being that Eichner co-wrote, his autobiographical rants and political tirades drag the film's spirit and pace. There are a few funny moments, but overall it's a spirited, but unoriginal romance. The problem with this movie is Billy Eichner casting himself as one of the two main characters. Otherwise, as a forty year old gay man, the film isn't that bad.

Independent of Eichner, acting left a bit to be desired but this movie makes you feel good and is an awesome effort and platform, with lots of beautiful monologues with an added sense of vulnerability.
