Marvel fantasy origin film. Based in 'Wakanda', which is an African fantasy location. We see how the 'Lion King Simba' rip-off becomes king and is challenged by the 'Scar' rip-off for his throne. The film has been over-hyped and not as good as the reviews lead you to believe, it appears that reviews are being cautious of giving honest criticism in fear of being called racist!

I didn't much like Wonder Woman either, but this isn't even as good as that. Overly long (134 minutes), very disappointing and boring.… Expand

"Black Panther" joins my Mount Rushmore of Marvel movies, alongside "X-MEN: Days of Future Past", "Spider-Man 2 and "Iron Man". "Black Panther" is unique in its presentation. It takes the shallowness of the super-hero genre and turns it into"Black Panther" joins my Mount Rushmore of Marvel movies, alongside "X-MEN: Days of Future Past", "Spider-Man 2 and "Iron Man". "Black Panther" is unique in its presentation. It takes the shallowness of the super-hero genre and turns it into a three-dimensional phenomenon. The costumes and production designs are mesmerizing. The acting is equally as good, especially the performances by Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, and Letitia Wright as Shuri. Moreover, "Black Panther" tries to be more than just a super-hero movie. Director, Ryan Coogler, uses the opportunity to incorporate heart-felt messages along the way. His messages hit home. However, the messages don't get in the way for those viewers who aren't interested; you'll still have a butt-kicking experience. One more thing: there has been a lot made out of the fact that "Black Panther' has a predominantly black cast. So what? There have been many great films with predominantly black casts: "Moonlight", "Hidden Figures, "12 years a Slave," "Glory", "The Color Purple" "Malcolm X , "A Raisin in the Sun," "Boys in the Hood" and "Sounder" quickly come to mind.. We should be beyond the point where we spend time concentrating on the skin color of the actors. writers and directors (even though I just did it). And finally, I think we should give some credit to writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, who, in Fantastic Four, issue #52, July of 1966, introduced T'Challa (AKA Black Panther), a noble king, who ruled over the technologically advanced country of Wakanda. A black super hero was a ground-breaking achievement back then. I still have that comic book hanging on the wall in my office. And I shall soon have the "Black Panther" DVD as part of my film collection. Its a wonderful movie.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't express myself enough to how much i adore this movie.
It was easy to make it just another action driven marvel movie, with a plot that i think everyone sees coming, a prince that is made king over the death of his father, looses his throne and has to take it back. But this was such a small part of the movie.
This movie, got the character development completely on point, no character is the same as it was in the beginning, and going through the process is what the movie is, it has action on it (of course it's a superhero movie after all), but Black Panther is more character driven than anything. Applause to Michael B. Jordan for his amazing portrayal of what could have been just another villain, but Erik Killmonger is without a doubt the best villain the MCU has. He has the right intention, what he says makes sense, it makes so much sense that in the end he convinces the main character to agree with his intentions, of course his actions are that of a villain and that's where the difference lies.
The Humor is also really well done, and in all of that technology, they didn't forget to show the african aspect of it all.
Of course it has some minor setbacks, like they introduce us Killmomger with such an amazing scene, but then he's gone for a while, some parts of the CGI really seemed unfinished, like the Rhinos for example, it started off a bit slow actually, only getting really geared up when T'Challa fights Jabori tribe leader for the throne.
So i think this is a marvelous film, and that really makes me respect the director Ryan Cooler even more, he has a bright future… Expand

Killmonger is the best bad guy in MCU for now. Thats what I can say for sure.
But movie is just boring with low quality of CGI. For me it is just appetizer before the main course - Infinity War.

Black Panther was an awesome movie in general. Built out the character more than was expected, as in introducing some back story to him, and expending on a piece of the Marvel Universe that many people wouldn't know about. Built out the character more than was expected, as in introducing some back story to him, and expending on a piece of the Marvel Universe that many people wouldn't know about. But ultimately in the hype and general build up towards it's release, it does fail in living up to the character that should have been shown. Without going into too many spoilers, as a King of a nation, genius, enterpeturer and all round good guy, one would expect that a person of this calibre, who has shown foreigners in the past and present much respect and forgiveness, who has shown general wisdom throughout the Marvel plot line, would actually shown their own citizens more respect and thoughtfulness. The story does seem to meter out after the first half boiling down to a generic "The sins of the father are to be laid upon the children" fiasco, while being somewhat good, it does become too clean cut. Also in my own preference, there should have been scenes in the "language" of Wakanda in the movie throughout, not just when a change of country occurred or they didn't feel like speaking the native language within the Capital of their own city, this did break the authenticity of the narrative to a degree. It's another feather in the cap of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, do with it as you like.… Expand

They handle the topic with great care and show multiple perspectives on the subject and how someone may get to their conclusion. Of course, this is a great superhero film as well. They tie up some loose ends from previous MCU films and incorporate them into this film with ease. The acting is great from Chadwick Boseman to the standout actress, Letitia Wright. Michael B. Jordan gives us the best MCU villain since Loki. He’s so great that you can understand where he is coming from, even if you don't agree with is stance. For the most part, the action is well done, however there are a few moments where some CGI looks unfinished. Black Panther is in the top echelon of the MCU origin films and I can't wait to see more of Black Panther in Avengers: Infinity War this May!… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I came into the movie afraid that it would not live up to the Wakanda-sized hype built up around it. But wow, this was a great movie. Much props to Ryan Coogler because I'm not really a fan of the MCU except for Winter Soldier and Iron Man 1. This is definitely my favorite installment, hands down. The cast was picked out perfectly. Everyone from Chadwick and Lupita to Serkis and Freeman did a phenomenal job. Especially Micheal B. Jordan. They developed Killmonger so well that I almost found myself rooting for him -- not many movies (especially Marvel) have done that to me. Props to Coogler once again. The plot flowed well from beginning to end, leaving hardly any stone unturned. Except for the sneakers gag, I suppose, but that wasn't all *that* important at the end of the day. The world building of Wakanda was amazing. I really got a sense for what this prosperous, but reclusive kingdom was all about. Lastly, the seemless blending on contemporary American hip hop with traditional African sounds was marvelous.

The CGI was probably the weakest point in the film, but those scenes did not last more than 10 seconds at a time, so it was tolerable. I feel like there's hardly any excuse for that in 2018 with such a big budget, but I have certainly seen worse. Some of the humor was a bit off putting, but it doesn't approach the kind of forced humor seen in The Last Jedi, for example.

All in all, I loved this move. 9/10 and I will be seeing it again! As much as I hate following the prolonged MCU, I can say truthfully that I cannot wait to see the 2nd installment of this film.… Expand

I get that the feeling that the movie is over-hyped and arguably more praised for being groundbreaking than it really should, as well as the gross overreaction some people have saying that negative reviews mean that they are automaticallyI get that the feeling that the movie is over-hyped and arguably more praised for being groundbreaking than it really should, as well as the gross overreaction some people have saying that negative reviews mean that they are automatically racist, but honestly I thought it is a great film. My usual complaints with the MCU after like the first Avengers movie is that they lack any real voice and instead they are just standard, safe but fun movies that are shot rather blandly. And while Black Panther has the same look as a regular MCU film, Ryan Coogler's voice is heard! He adds a distinct style and layer to the MCU cannon, not just with some subtle social commentary, but also that it just feels like more effort was made for Coogler to have his spin on it than just some generic Hollywood director to be involved. The acting is great all around, with Chadwick Boseman being great as the main lead, Michael B Jordan is great as the antagonist, Killmonger (who is also one of the best main antagonists the MCU have, right up there with Loki and Vulture), and Letita Wright nearly stealing the show as Shuri, which is no easy task with Andy Serkis being gleefully menacing. The story is also well crafted too with themes of old vs. new of traditions, with the previously mentioned subtle social commentary sprinkled in there to give the story more weight to certain audiences. The comedy is great too, as instead of being overloaded with jokes like in Thor Ragnarok and even Spider-Man Homecoming, it's well balanced between the main story (although it does have a cringe worthy reference to "WHAT ARE THOSE?"). The only real complain I have is that the action is hard to follow at times due to quick cuts and the camera not focusing on what is going on, as well as the core soundtrack curated by Kendrick Lamar being underutilized.

This movie is fantastic and I would rank it highly in the MCU cannon.… Expand

Not bad not too great either. It's just an average movie. There wasn't for me that would make me remember it. In my opinion, the villains were much better than the main cast.

The story was average and after all that MCU did was kinda a letdown.

This makes me sad, because although this movie has flaws, it is in no way deserving of the low user scores that it's receiving. It was honestly one of my favorite Marvel movies so far and to come up with a new unique story after so many other superhero stories have already been told in film and to do it in such fashion is really impressive.

There are some small parts where they drop the ball, in introducing too many different groups and too many story lines. But even dropping the ball on that one thing, the movie is leaps and bounds better than any, yes ANY DC movie, in story telling and in visuals. Oh my the visuals are stunning! So many colors and cool tech. I wish we could have more time in Wakanda to get a better sense of what Wakandan life is like!

The soundtrack is easily the best of any superhero movie out there and on par with any movie soundtrack save for TRON, which is easily the best soundtrack of all time.

I beg you to read this review as someone who has seen all of the Marvel movies twice that this might be the best one yet, no joke.… Expand

I have personally wondered how Marvel was going to move forward after Infinity War; the movie that caps off literally EVERYTHING they have made, Black Panther is that formula that will move them forward.

The story was totally inclusive to itself with political intrigue, family relationships, Leadership responsibility to home and the world at large. The movie proved to me that building strong standalone stories set within the marvel cinematic universe is the way they can move forward. It also can easily bring each standalone characters together for a "team-up event" sometime down the line.… Expand

What's itThe short review: A good Marvel film that has unfortunately been hyped up to ‘great’ status, which it isn’t. Related media: I’ve seen all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s films but I’ve not read the comics on Black Panther.

What's it like?: The Black Panther/T’Chala returns to Wakanda following the events in Captain America: Civil War to fight against any challengers to the throne. He wins the fight, but another challenger appears later on who is much tougher to beat. Pro: The ensemble of mainly black actors in such an important, expensive film is revolutionary for the community of black actors, especially since the film is made and acted well and is expected to be a major success.

Cons: 1) There are so many issues with the portrayal of Wakanda, with regards to its economy, its ultra-high technology, the relationships between the tribes, the wonders of Vibranium, etc. The portrayal is too fantastical and not realistic, and I felt that the filmmakers had not put in the effort, such as engaging engineers, economists and sociologists to try to make it at least, plausible. In making the portrayal so fantastical, they had dumbed down the film and hope the viewers are too dumb to know the difference.

2) Wakanda has been depicted as being so advanced that they even have body armour technology that is more advanced than Tony Stark’s. How realistic is it that you can keep all the technological advances a secret? Tony’s secrets are safe because only he knows them. Wakanda seems to rely on tribal trusts and those things are hardly reliable.

3) The scene where others challenge T’Chala to the throne did not seem realistic from an hydro-engineering point of view and the CGI also looked a bit poor and unrealistic. The filmmakers should have done it in a simpler and more realistic manner.

4) The depiction of the use of Vibranium tech for shielding, by a non-ruling tribe in Wakanda, felt again, unrealistic and poorly thought out by the filmmakers. 5) The scene showing the attempt to stop Wakanda tech from being taken out of the capital city, the one involving planes, felt simplistic, child-like and lazy.

6) The running time could be squeezed down by some 15 minutes by speeding things up.

7) A continuity issue has appeared as it is now uncertain when Captain America’s visit to Wakanda was supposed to take place!

Post credit scenes; There are two. The first references the current political situation in the US.

With all the new releases from MARVEL Studios (Spider-Man Homecoming or Thor Ragnarok),it might be a clichè to say that Black Panther is a great movie,but I would mostly define it as 'the most intelligent movie in the MCU.
Don't get me wrong,I loved their previous efforts,especially the recent Spider-Man Homecoming,but after a 'BOOM!' and a 'KA-POW!',Ryan Coogler (Creed and Fruitvale Station) decides to stop and do something that I think 'X-Men (2000)' and the whole DCEU should've done better: Giving us a 'realistic' look at superheroes,how superheroes can sometimes be threatened by the Government. All of that while giving us a fascinating look at Wakanda,T'Challa's hometown,a city so technological Apple would really blush.
Accompained by an excellent Production Design and some impressive cinematography by the Oscar-Nominated Rachel Morrison,as well as the score by Creed's Ludwig Gorasson and the rather bombastic soundtrack by Kendrick Lamar,this movie tries its best to shine in detail,a thing that even Jordan Peele tried to do with Get Out (2017). And holy smokes,it does...
Of course Boseman gives a great performance as T'Challa,of course Serkis and Freeman are great in this,but I really have to praise Michael B. Jordan (Creed and Fantastic Four 2015) for giving us the best MCU Villain since Loki. With Erik Killmonger,we understand where he's coming from,we understand his motivation,and while he makes stuff go 'BADA-BOOM!' and 'BADA-BING!',you can sometimes side with him because,as said,his motivation was interesting,and I won't spoil it because it needs to be experienced by your own eyes.
Also I have to mention the women in this movie,because,just like the gals in Wonder Woman,they are a treasure in this movie,from Letitia Wright (who plays Shuri,T'Challa's hi-tech sister) to Lupita Nyong'o (T'Challa's ex-girlfiend) and Danai Guirira. They were as charismatic as ever and they had their time to shine in this movie.
Now,as I said in the beginning,i'm going to mention the flaws,because this movie isn't flawless etc...
During the final fight between Black Panther and Killmonger,the CG in the suits was easily noticeable,as if it was a videogame (unlike the entirety of Justice League,where everything was a cartoon),and it was disappointing to see Angela Bassett (Ramonda,T'Challa's mom) being not used as much as the rest of the cast.
Also,from an impressive opening sequence,you're in for a game of 'Where's Waldo?',since Killmonger rarely appears during the whole 1st act of the movie.
But aside from that,Black Panther was a great time at the movies. With an excellent Production Design,Ryan Coogler's impressive way of directing and,obviously,Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa,it was great to see that I can even have a real blast at a movie that isn't Spider-Man 2 (2004).… Expand

Over-all, this is a fun and enjoyable movie with action, comedy, drama. There are some complex social political overtones mixed in, but it never feels heavy handed, and I feel that the over-all message is positive for humanity as a whole. If this type of movie isn't your cup of tea, fair enough, but if you are on the fence about watching due to pre-conceived notions about its content and message, I would recommend you give it a try, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.… Expand

A truly masterpiece.

One of the best MCU villains. They kinda underused Andy Serkis' character, however. The overall story line is excellent too. Fight scenes are well done. This is, nevertheless, probably the grimmest MCU movie. After USA, Asgard, the Galaxy, Sokovia, and Europe, the MCU has branched out to Africa, which is very nice. Overall, I do believe this is one of the best MCU movies ever, along with the likes of "The Winter Soldier" (Which also happens to have politic as the main motive), "Civil War", "Iron Man", and "The Avengers". Just when you think Marvel has hit the ceiling, they pulled this masterpiece out. Impressive… Expand

Getting an honest review was practically impossible because they couldn’t get past the identity of the movie and just tell me if it’s a good story. So here’s my honest review!

Black Panther is very good movie, if you like Marvel movies it’s definitely worth it and I’d even say it’s one of the better ones. Visuals are stunning, fights are great (overused shaking camera though), and my favorite is the aesthetics of the tribal/super advanced Wakanda. It has that same cool flavor Asgard had in Thor. Just really neat to see the culture of Wakanda. Very imaginative. The main character is ok, but it works out as his supporting cast compliments him rather well. He’d be too stoic and boring without them. The movie has 2 villain. Andy Serkis is absolutely fantastic as ‘Claw’ and I loved every minute of him. Warmonger is the primary villain, and though threatening, is rather typical as a hate filled villain who wishes evil on the world cause he’s bad. I wish the movie had ‘Claw’ as the primary villain for a number of reasons I’ll get to in the story.
The story is where it gets dicey. -minor spoilers-
Overall it’s about the main character, T’Challa, ascending to the throne, as we see how the Wakandan culture works, before hunting ‘Claw’ who not only discovered Wakanda, and is thus a threat, but also murdered Wakandans to steal Vibranium. The tribes of Wakanda are seeing how their new king will deal with what even the last king couldn’t deal with. However an African-American (and yes, that’s actually important) comes to use Wakanda’s technology to kill all non-blacks. Now that last part seems to come out of west field... and you’d be right. Everything with Killmonger is odd in the story sense.
-end minor spoilers-

So it appears that Warmonger’s primary purpose is to have a central message regarding race. The message is overall good, ‘Let go of the sins of the past, the sins of your race and move forward’ however I’m more interested in good stories, and Wakanda has nothing to do with this message and the story stumbles because of it. That’s an African-American message, but it takes place in Africa, in a fictional place that has never been enslaved, had slaves, or even cared about slavery until recently, and that’s regarding Africans enslaving Africans. They only care about Wakanda. You can put Warmonger in any movie and have the exact same message. He doesn’t bounce off the other characters very well or the plot since he has no one to relate to. He’s just a racist that came to do genocidal racist things. Warmonger would have to be in a movie with another African-American who he could relate and dig deeper into that message. The movie would have greatly benefited if he stuck to his other revenge motivation.

Only other gripe I can make is there’s a really, really bad CGI rhino. You can’t miss it.

Good Movie, I wish it didn't feel the need to put a race message that is incompatible to the rest of the story and confuses the motivations of a possibly good antagonist. Could have just been an awesome super hero story.… Expand

I just got out of my screening and I'm impressed by key moments in the movie. They promised to show us something that (at least) felt new and it did that. Compared to other MCU movies for me personally it's behind The Avengers and Winter Soldier, but ahead of most everything else.

I literally felt a range of emotions with this movie. I liked that it paused to talk tech when needed, its really interesting stuff. I liked that the movie had actual stakes and made me worried for certain characters. It did a very good job.

One other point: Anyone giving this a negative review either has an agenda of their own or is being confronted by something that makes them feel uncomfortable. There's no rational way this movie deserves a negative review, given everything it does really well. It might be fair to be mixed about it, and it might not be a 10 either. 7 or 8 is realistically fair, I'm giving it an 8 because it did so many things right, way more than it did wrong.… Expand

Ryan Coogler, you proved us that you can actually direct a superhero movie and it’s very well made than any other MCU movie I’ve ever seen, you sir are a genius, also, the female cinematographer will get that Oscar in the near future if she haven’t won yet and you’re a Marvel of doing this! If you haven’t seen Black Panther, you really want to see it on 3D or IMAX before Infinity War drops!! These words epitomise a very real experience to most BAME children. It’s a ‘privilege’ that white children (even into adulthood) aren’t able to access. That trauma packaged in that subconscious epiphany, the internalisation that the ‘default' does not include you. Thus begins our Infernum, our Hades, our mortal plight, our perpetual identity crisis; a restructuring of self to find a suitable form congruent to the social cues that confront us.

There’s a disparity of self that occurs when having to navigate society. Detaching one’s self from one’s race, Dorothy being rooted out Kansas, to function within the ‘default’ yet always being reminded that you don’t belong, your form is not valid.

I say all this to emphasise the relevance of Marvel’s latest film, Black Panther. [Beyond me just being a bit of a comic geek, lol]. Marvel’s Black Panther is more than just a comic movie, it’s a piquant vehicle #Mutlidimensional.

There was a sensation that I felt while I sat in the BFI IMax, it was new yet nostalgic, I couldn’t quite articulate it at the time other than a feeling of serenity and ease. Only this morning was I able to consolidate the experience and process that novelty yet nostalgia; I was transported back to a time that resonates in James Baldwin’s words, a time before society held a mirror up to my infant mind (or rather a time before I became aware of that mirror), a time before I realised I was not the ‘default’, not white.

The beauty of that moment (2hrs 15min) made me aware of a phenomena that had been as imperceptible as breathing. That Dorothy effect, that astral projection out of a racialised body in order to relate to storylines and characters in a sea of media that on a superficial level don’t represent you. Though, sitting there in my seat I was able to consume freely; there wasn’t that extra expense to relate. It was palatable without me having to escape my body or escape the woes that society thrusts at me as a mirror. The scenes were familiar, culturally as well as aesthetically, the rhythms of the movie connected with my breathing. There was a flourish of ease and serenity, that’s literally the only way I can best express at this time.

Beyond my own experience, the vehicular nature of this film offers a fantastic opportunity to white folk as well. It allows the white individual an awareness. It’s an opportunity to escape their bodies outside of the ‘default’ and exercise this layer of detaching and relating to a hero (not a slave/victim/help), an entire cast and a narrative that’s altogether foreign aesthetically, culturally and historically. This contrasts the POC experience of escaping their racialised bodies to bridge on to the ‘default’; whereas white individuals may escape their bodies and bear a glimpse of being racialised, an eye opener to whiteness juxtaposed to ‘other’.

Another strong aspect that the movie delivers; it transports all of us to an alternate timeline. To an Africa that blossomed outside of the jaws of colonialism. Where all the resources stayed connected to the land and evolved into a technological empire that married tradition with technological functionality. What Africa could have been without being stripped of its people and its material resources, and an infrastructure to properly manufacture and regulate corresponding technologies.

I didn’t want to jump on this whole hype, but the movie was beautiful on the notion that it offered me a serenity I haven’t felt while watching comic movies. I’m definitely watching again.… Expand

T'Challa feels like an extremely different lead character in a big action movie, especially an MCU one, his story presented in the movie isn't one about how a flawed character becomes a hero, it's the story of what comes after, of a Hero and a King doing what he has prepared his whole life to do. T'Challa is supported by a great set of supporting characters, highlights being Okaye and Kilmonger.

Eric Kilmonger is the main antagonist to T'Challa and he's as much a child as T'Challa is mature. With an extremely painful past and the best of intentions, he might be the most interesting antagonist Marvel has put to screen till now. I wish they could have shown even more of him and less of Klaue, even though Klaue was a really fun addition to the movie. But perhaps the most interesting character in the movie is the nation of Wakanda itself, properly developed like Asgard never was. Seeing so many different and interesting aspects of Wakanda throughout the movie was an absolute treat. And the refreshing score combined with the awe inspiring visuals truly brought Wakanda to life.

This movie makes me really excited for the future of the MCU. I hope they keep making more and more different movies like this. For now, the future of MCU looks as beautiful as a sunset does in Wakanda.… Expand

This is not typical marvel's movie, there is no lots of explosions or even worldwide problems, no super-villain like Altron or Thanos who want to destroy all humanity. CGI wasn't so clear, right, but it's not Transformers or Avatar who spent lots of money on it. This film is not for the audience who came to see a great CGI movie. You might see it even from a trailer, it's not so typical like Avengers: Infinity War with tons of pathos. IMO, haters are 10yo or they just came to see a typical huge scale of the problem. The great idea to unite technology, culture, and traditions, great dialogues, great acting, this film was good almost in everything, only CGI was not so good, but i don't think this is a huge problem. And yea, the OST was really awesome.

I was putting a lot of hope in that movie, and I guess as a lot of people I was really hyped about it. But in the end, the movie was too long, boring, and with a poor scenario. Luckily the special effects and dresses were good, but overall acting was really bad...

About acting : M.B.Jordan and D.Gurira acting were good, C.Boseman was ok. While W.Duke and L.Wright were quite bad. The other were just... transparent. But I think this come more from the directing than the actors themselves. I think Ryan Coogler as a big part in this overall poor acting, the actors were probably not "push" and just easy with their acting..

About dressing : This is the best part of the movie, lot of nice dresses, colorfoul, designed, mixed, interesting.

Visual effects : Between good and bad.. The actions were too fast and even blur on screen for the panther, and CGI was crap, really amateur. But big group action in daylight were better and pleasant to watch, even though not extraordinary.

Music : I guess it is a matter of taste, I enjoyed it but.. it was a bit too much sometime and always the same, which in the end was almost getting annoying.

Scenario : BAD. I think scenario and poor acting just ruined the movie (with directing). The movie was too long, while you can resume it in 10s. It was the typical bad people steal good people, then a bad guy try to conquest a good guy throne, then in the end the good guy win. There was a bit of political, mixing poor punchline "your ancestor stole mine", "bring in another little white guy"(I am translating from french), "I would rather die like my ancestor", so not developped at all and really cheesy. The characters were also not developed at all, except maybe Killmonger, what a waste.
And what about the joke ?? I didn't even smiled, it was just BAD. Like this one "I will eat you blabla... kidding we are vegan" like seriously ?? Was it written by a 7 yo kid ??

Conclusion : Good special effects, good dresses, bad acting, bad scenario, bad jokes and punchline, and I guess very bad directing. Resulting in one of the worst Marvel, at the same level of transformers or last iron-man. Disapointing and over-hyped.… Expand

It's a fine movie, really. Didn't blow me away since some parts really dragged. I guess black people got an amazing attention that they have deserved. This movie shows the true power of them with great director, actors, actress and also a great villain.

Not bad, not good. It's a fine movie, i really don't understand why critics loved it.

Excellent movie. The script is impeccable, the characters and their motivations very well elaborated. Also, how wonderful is the adaptation and representation of the African culture shown in this film. For now the best MCU movie. 10/10

Forget the cultural significance, this was a Marvel movie that was smart, had good characters and pacing, and actually felt like a story rather than the usual formula.

It's very well cast, and the actors all perform brilliantly, and, unlike DC movies, Marvel is not afraid to have lots of dialogue and conversation scenes. The end result is that you care about the characters and feel with them and for them are you're never confused about their motivations and drives. It's also quite beautifully executed.… Expand

A triumph in world building, character development and expanding the scope of what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has the ability to be. Wakanda is a locale teeming with history, culture and identity and sucks the viewer into its world. From a thematic and intelligence perspective, Black Panther is a film that breaks the mold when it comes to Super Hero films and has its narrative elevated on the back of supremely talented actors who complement each other in scene after scene. Ryan Coogler has directed a masterpiece here.

As for the racists who clearly haven't seen the film and are threatened by what this represents for underrepresented demographics, your '0' reviews will not effect the enjoyment the vast majority of general audiences get out of this film nor will it dampen the universal critical success it's about to experience. Your attempts to drive down the score is pathetic.… Expand

As Marvel movies go, this is average. Kinda boring and I gotta say, I had more sympathy for the villain. He made good points where the hero is just about monarchical lineage.
