Absolutely loved the movie!! This is the first movie where I felt that The Rock was playing a character and not himself. You can see the hard work that's put in. I hope this is the start of something new for the DCEU.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I came to this movie with low expectation, most movie now are just about 'The message' and are not fun. I came because I knew about the Superman reveal and I wanted to support that move. What I got was a great action movie and one of the best super hero movies in the last 3 years. The story is not complicated nor complex, but is one of the most action packed story I ever saw and it really worked for me. The background story for Black Adam is in my opinion great, it is presented in small steps each one adding to the previous. Is in the end a simple story, but it works. There is no real background story for the League of Justice, but there was no time for it. I loved Dr Fate and Pierce Brosnan deliver a great role. Also for people that complain this is a Dr Strange rip-off, Dr Fate appear in the 1940's, Dr Strange appear in 1967 so not really. NOTE. I would love a Dr Fate movie or at least a series. I loved that Black Adam is so brutal. For a guy that lived 5000 years ago, in a savege world , that saw his child and wife murdered, and just wake up, there is no way for him to have 2020 moral standards.… Expand

I'll be the first to admit not being a fanatical follower of Dwayne.... but the film is very entertaining. Not a masterpiece but it's worth a matinee ticket. It's so clear that many critics didn't even watch the movie, it's embarrassing. This is far more nuanced and poignant than anything Disney or Warner have made in the superhero genre up to this point, that for some critics to pretend they've watched it and call it bland is, quite honestly, an insult to professional reviewers who actually take their jobs seriously.
Black Adam, as a movie, is driven by a commentary on the nature of prejudice, both global and personal. It uses the narrative to ask the viewer important questions about why they assume their moral judgement is above question and forces them to constantly change their perspective and adapt to new information rather than just lazily pick a side and insist they're "the good guys". Above all Black Adam asks Hollywood and the hero movie genre to take a long hard look at itself and ask if it really just wants to recycle the exact same one-sided stories, over and over again.
Any critic calling this movie bland, shallow or by the numbers, should stop letting Disney's marketing department write their reviews for them, because they clearly didn't watch the movie themselves.… Expand

Ya pude ver la película y que puedo decir, iba con expectativas bajas es una película de The rock Johnson y es de superhéroes no le puedo pedir mucho, pero Dios de verdad me sorprendió, no es una revolución ni es la mejor película de superhéroes pero cumplió por completo con lo que ella prometió es una película muy activa, buenos efectos, escuché que abusa de las escenas en cámara lenta y en lo personal adore la primera pelea en cámara lenta y la última cunado este ya no cuenta con sus poderes, personajes carismáticos y mucha comedia también, no todos los chistes conectaro y la mujer y Niño no me terminaron de encantar, pero doctor destino y el hombre Halcón son de lo mejor de la película. Went watching it last night, I am 50 so dont read many comics so dont know how accurate it is, But I really enjoyed it the effects were some of the best that a DC film has had. After so many flops from DC and muddled messes of movies that missed the tone entirely DC finally seem to be putting out some good content, between the last suicide squad movie the peacemaker series and now this I'm seeing some hopeful lightAfter so many flops from DC and muddled messes of movies that missed the tone entirely DC finally seem to be putting out some good content, between the last suicide squad movie the peacemaker series and now this I'm seeing some hopeful light ahead for them, brutally honest I was tired of snyders attempt to turn the DC universe into a 300 sucker punch mashup with the same tones and writing that truly was not fitting of the characters at all, jesse eisenberg springs to mind instantly when it comes to casting, his lex luthor being closer to the riddler was enough to make me shake my head and let us not remind ourselves of the Martha fiasco and the use of an actual bathroom sink in their fight, but this I've been waiting to see dwayne johnson play black adam since the late 90s when I didn't even know his real name and he was perfect in the role, DC have finally got it and hopefully this is a fresh new start for them!… Expand

I lament a time in the not so but increasingly distant past when adjectives such as "decent" or even the generic "ok" meant the film was slightly mediocre and was probably not worth the time. In the era we live in, it might as translate to a Best Picture Oscar contender. It was better than some of the drivel in the inconsistent mess that is DC extended universe, but that's not saying very much. I can be pleasantly surprised by the Rock NOT dragging down the film with his acting. There are many ways in which the direction, writing, editing and even casting could have been improved, but 'Black Adam' kept me fairly engaged for two hours, and that's all I can ask for films nowadays.… Expand

Getting to the movie, it's not as bad as advertised and DJ is eminently likeable whatever part he plays. The script and direction are a mess, but the actors, particularly Brosnan, more than make up for it. It's worth a watch.… Expand

Black Adam is entertaining (even a bit generic as mostly haters say) DCU action movie. I think they're gonna do well & first sign for it is Peacemaker's S02 arriving maybe before next summer. Also hope good success for DCU's Blue Beetle when it comes out before mid next year. Black Adams was entertaining and made for cinema. The story is good. I like the fact they did expose his origin, into a subtle way and not one, that was too obvious. The movie is packed with actions. I would give it a 9/10 if it was in 3D and if it didn't use the Illuminati sign for freedom. In reality the Illuminati is against freedom and is for the new word order and depopulation. Black Adam, Me ha gustado de principio a fin, inicio con acción fluyendo en armonía acompañado esto al desarrollo de la historia se va dando y cumple el cometido de entretener. Como se permitió abrir paso a otros superhéroes, en la narrativa algo forzado se aprecia a simple vista. Comparar con otras de este tipo no tiene mucho sentido, puesto que criticar en base a otras es una tarea pueril.
Sobre la historia se relata de buena manera, en contadas partes la ilación flaquea en la situación de los eventos, aunque a este tipo de películas de superhéroes es lo de menos. The Rock cumple en cuanto a su actuación, es un personaje para la acción reconozco que en este movie se aprecia una mínima porción de su parte dramática. Simple story, good show. I liked that unlike in other recent movies they didn't waste time on some pseudo character development, so deep, any person with a bit of life experience, rolls his/her eyes. Streamers, the long-awaited DC Comic adaptation of Black Adam is finally here. We finally get to see Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. Black Adam is set about 5,000 years after he was bestowed with powers. After freeing his hometown, Kahndaq,Streamers, the long-awaited DC Comic adaptation of Black Adam is finally here. We finally get to see Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam. Black Adam is set about 5,000 years after he was bestowed with powers. After freeing his hometown, Kahndaq, Black Adam finds himself waiting in confinement for his time to return as Kahndaq’s savior. Freed from his tomb, Black Adam is ready to unleash his justice on modern day Kahndaq and dares anyone to stop him. DC Comic action ensues.

Let’s get this out of the way: the movie is quite entertaining but of course DC Comics will DC Comics. As we know from their previous installments, they come with a lot of hype but sometimes they just fizzle in the full execution. This movie is no different, but the fizzle is honestly quite less. The issues here are more annoying than bad. For instance, The Rock and the rest of the cast are going to bring us comedy, but I found that the one-liners that were supposed to make us chuckle missed the mark. Watching, I knew the line was supposed to be funny, but the flow of the movie blows passed the line or something. It seems like the editing of the movie messed with the timing for some of these jokes, and it happened a few too many times. There are still funny moments that hit hard, but those moments that fell flat are noticeable. Along with that, the script felt repetitive. Characters seemed to be saying the same thing over and over. I get that they were trying to drive home the theme of the movie but come off it!

Next, I hate when really smart people in movies conveniently forget something they know that is very simple just so it can lead to a twist or turning point in the movie. It happened here and it literally makes no sense. It’s just annoying that it happened. It’s not terrible just like eh come on DC, y’all couldn’t have thought of a better way to either make the situation harder to figure out or something. Again, annoying but not bad.

Lastly, we’re fighting this god-like figure, why do we bring someone to the fight that clearly can’t help. My girl, Quintessa Swindell wasn’t asked to do much with her character, Cyclone, so naturally she did perfectly well. However, Cyclone had no business in this movie. Her powers were demonstrated beautifully and very artistically but in no way would be helpful in this fight. Like come on DC Comics, y’all could’ve put any other character in this spot that might have been actually helpful. So again, it’s not bad just annoying or a missed opportunity by the filmmakers. On top of that, it’s hard to have a movie with characters similar to the MCU and then try to differentiate those characters. I find Dr. Fate and Atom Smasher a bit too close to Dr. Strange and Ant-Man. It’s hard to see them demonstrate powers and not get the feeling I’ve seen this before. This isn’t the movie’s fault but it’s just a byproduct of the DC and Marvel race copycatting each other over the decades. Nevertheless, it’s hard to shake that feeling, especially in the fight sequences.

Now, for the good. The movie is crisp, clean, hard hitting, similar to the other DC movies. On this alone, the movie is one of those movies you turn on just to ooh and ahh at the action sequences on FX. The characters are portrayed very well, and producers definitely cast the movie well. Johnson’s Black Adam is stoic, powerful, callous but caring and clever. Of course, we get the power for the character, but Johnson also shows some sentimental acting in the flick that helps show the character’s depth of emotions and burden in the movie. They could’ve easily taken the character into a typical Johnson film and comedy, but they toed the line pretty well, allowing him some comic relief without losing the stoic strength. Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman is suave, smart, powerful and relentless. Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate was quite fitting as well.

With that said, Black Adam is an entertaining movie that plans to keep the DC Comic Universe continuing over the next years. Black Adam isn’t without its issues which is typical to DC Comics and their finnicky execution. Dwayne Johnson and cast bring a hard-hitting character to life. It’s hard to say this movie is not worth seeing on the big screen but I also realize comic fans may also be annoyed with the movie a bit. You will not be mad seeing this on big screen but just realize there will be some DC Comic movie issues. I mean the movie is worth seeing for the after-credit scene alone… *Nudge Nudge*… Expand

Quite entertaining film. The Rock is perfect for the role. He plays his typical role as a tough guy which fits him very well but now as an anti-hero. Awesome movie with a nice actor The Rock. It's simple, intriguing, fun and just good. I'm not disappointed by a superhero movie since a while. That alone is quite impressing :)

Amazing movie, that's how you make an anti-hero: ruthless, violent and cooperative only when the purposes are the same.
The Justice Society is a very nice "hero add" to the cast, Brosnan was born to be Fate and Hawkman was a surprise.

The action was DC type action and I'm saying that to the story is usually average but the action was in your face and smash mouth and of course they did the slo-mo thing DC does. The story just lacked a lot it seemed like. I love the setting in Black Adams native land and bringing it to modern day, but the kid and mom became almost annoying to the point I was wondering why are they still a major part of the story and not to knock the actors but just did seem like a likely story line for Black Adam. The last thing I will say is why is this kid riding around on a skateboard in set pieces that looked like it was from a 90s era movie. Overall I would still recommend to watch, but not at the movie theater wait till its available for stream.… Expand

This movie is in a way a reboot of the DCEU, because several questions can be asked. Like where was the JSA in Man of Steel and Justice League.

Everyone was so in awe with Superman, when the Earth already had a kind of super man of the past called Black Adam, other superhuman characters. Several movies lose some sense seeing the JSA and the existence of Black Adam, proves that there is a far deeper history of the Earth that is only now being revealed.

And that is a huge flaw, because it raises questions that only harm the movies already done. Unless of course WB is now attempting to reboot the DCEU, but in such a soft way that it doesn't feel like a reboot.

As for the movie Black Adam... Can't really say I was surprised in the least with anything that happened. I had already guessed it right, how they were going to change Teth-Adam origin story to appeal to the viewers. So there was no surprise there, only the confirmation of my own theories.

Characters like Dr Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) deserved a movie before Black Adam. To give us more insight and a better understanding of their connection.

Pierce Brosnan was definitely brilliant as Dr Fate, landing his lines with the perfection expected of a grade A actor. And as a character, he deserved more than what he got in his movie.

The dynamic between the JSA members was refreshing, because there was no wokeness between Cyclone and the other characters. She was part of the team, and never once does she act as if she's superior to her male teammates, nor do they act superior to her.

As for Black Adam... It was Dwayne Johnson being himself. It was always clear that Johnson would never go along with the sometimes evil methods of the Black Adam of the comics, and so they adopted the more recent approach from the comics where Black Adam is more of an anti hero.

As for the character Adrianna Tomaz (Sarah Shahi) it's clear there was more she could've done or become, but unfortunately this movie is not about telling a great story balanced with some action scenes. This is an action movie with some story in there, just enough so people can understand what is happening.

It's clear that Adrianna Tomaz was set up to become Ísis, but that will demand sequels that at this point may or may not happen.

Overall, Black Adam is a movie that once it shifts to 5th gear it just doesn't stop. And like a Michael Bay Transformers movie, story is sacrificed in favor of action.

It's not a bad movie. Far from it. It's actually a good movie, and perhaps great for those looking for an action movie, but it could've been an overall great movie if they had left room for more.

Still. It was good start.… Expand
