Quite good movie, with interesting and unexpected things in it, even though some of the decisions the characters made were quite dumb.

Unfortunately, the last segment was a bit ruined by rush and comedic transition. But apart from that segment, this film is simply a good modern horror film of our generation.

It's absolutly not everyone's cup of tea due to its unlikable storytelling, so give it a try, it might be a new taste of your horror.… Expand

Really solid. Barbarian had a lot of interesting ideas, and it is genius in its structure. Very well acted. Uses a wide range of scares to keep the movie fresh as it goes along. Try not to go in with any expectations, good or bad (do that with most movies anyway). This is the kind of horror I love. It twists and turns in wildly entertaining ways. Some absolutely stellar cinematography, and a great female lead. Justin Long is also insanely good. This is such a fun, engaging, disturbing movie. While the plot is your standard horror movie fare, the way it's presented feels unique. This is one of those movies you'll tend to either love or hate, hence the mixed reviews.

While I'm not so sure about the social horror angle that its plot explores, I must say that what Barbarian proposes is convincing enough, and that in the horror genre is hard to pull off, because it's not so much about scaring you anymore,While I'm not so sure about the social horror angle that its plot explores, I must say that what Barbarian proposes is convincing enough, and that in the horror genre is hard to pull off, because it's not so much about scaring you anymore, it's about genuinely immersing you in what you're watching, and this film achieved that.

Wow, what a masterpiece. How is nobody talking about this movie. Just got out of the cinema and I am still in shock. So unexpected, everybody in the cinema was glued to their seats. Still need more time to process what I have just seen.

Very entertaining and clever horror film with an unexpected social angle. The third act is bonkers, and kind of goes off the rails, but the first two are great. A reminder that you don't have to go "elevated" to make a great horror film.

With horror becoming one of the more common genres for"The Whitest Kids U' Know's" Zach Cregger is reintroduced to the general moviegoing public by way of "Barbarian," a refreshingly unpredictable and thoroughly entertaining chillfest. With horror becoming one of the more common genres for artists to really flex their voices within, Cregger's joined in and proved he's yet another one to be reckoned with. This is a biting, hilarious and frightening film on an atmospheric, thematic and subtextual level. You have to love a movie that's willing to take as many swings as this one does. Structural conventions are constantly upended, leaving the audience in the dark for pretty much the entire runtime. Much love to Justin Long for delivering a gut-bustingly despicable performance as well. I had a helluva time watching this. Cannot recommend enough.… Expand

Best horror movie set in Detroit since It Follows. I can't decide which one I like better. Also, I haven't laughed so hard during any movie in a long, long time. Truly a brilliant setup.

Barbarian can be viewed as a very competent "house of horrors" type horror film that shares some DNA with Don't Breathe, as it takes place in a deceptively expansive house in the middle of a abandoned area of Detroit. And as horror moviesBarbarian can be viewed as a very competent "house of horrors" type horror film that shares some DNA with Don't Breathe, as it takes place in a deceptively expansive house in the middle of a abandoned area of Detroit. And as horror movies go, it begins on a dark and stormy night. But there's a line early on that informs the rest of the movie. When a young woman finds out that the Airbnb she rented has been double booked, occupied by a young man, and reluctantly stays, she is asked would you have done the same if the roles (genders) were reversed. That question lies beneath the surface in her interactions with the occupant, the police and others. To say more would spoil the film. I did find it ironic that the last name of the lead actress shares the same last name of a particular actor who has Detroit roots and had to battle evil. Just sayin.… Expand

Different. It changes genre about 5 times from drama to thriller to comedy to horror back to comedy again. Intentional comedy? That's up for debate. Well made movie with great performances. I have been a horror movie fan for decades and I went into watching this expecting it to be 100% predictable. I was 100%....WRONG! They tricked up with the story and the fantastic acting! Over rated but enjoyable horror flick has a pretty good atmosphere, wrapped around a 'mystery box' plot that is predictable to say the least. Worth a watch.
