The CGI work was gorgeous and allowed for a beautiful exploration of an alien world. Many of the new characters are intriguing and help the audience see a different perspective than what we have seen previously. The story overall feels a bit too similar which feels disappointing given the amount of time they took to release this film. Some of the choices with the main story and character actions are confusing or goofy. This took me out of the experience as many times throughout the film others would laugh at what should be serious scenes. That being said I looked past most of the few criticisms I have because many of them can be explained or improved with further development of the story. Overall I loved the film and the gorgeous world that James Cameron explores with this film and I am looking forward to the continuation of the series! Expand

I can confidently state that this is the best piece of CGI media ever made. The attention to detail and the elaborate fauna takes the viewer through a once in a lifetime experience. But there is one small flaw, the plot. It is no secret that this new sequel's storyline appears to be boring. It repeats all of the same storybeats that the first movie had in favour of creating one huge parallelism. It reminds everyone of the first movie as a way to set up the stage to the sequels to come. Does Cameron lean to much into repetition, I believe so, but either way the movie overall is an amazing cinematic masterpiece. Expand

The biggest problem this film faced was the significant time jump between release dates, however, Cameron managed to maneuver around this, creating a captivating story that left plenty of room for further developments. Unlike the first film, this one focused heavily on emotions and familial relationships. It created the bond that so many of us long for when it comes to friends and family, and it made the events of the film a little more harrowing as they established very quickly that nobody is safe. Much like the first film, this one continued the storyline of environmentalism and colonization, effectively putting the audience in a place that has them rooting on the side of the Na’vi – and against their own people.

In order to tell this story in the manner that was intended, Cameron waited until he had the technology available to create an immersive world for his audience. Especially with the use of IMAX and 3D effects, the viewer can feel transported to Pandora for the full length of the film, and will grow to miss this universe when the credits roll and the screen fades to black. The CGI for this film was masterful in every way and it can be difficult to find a cast that possesses the talent to perform with the technology that will assist in building this world. That being said, casting director, Margery Simkin, could not have done a better job. While the entire cast provided wonderful performances, Zoe Saldana (Neytiri) stood out with her emotional performance as not only a warrior, but a mother and wife as well. It was refreshing to see that, although she has different priorities now, she still held on to her values and beliefs in the same manner as the first film.

The only thing that I felt this film lacked was a memorable soundtrack, as it seemed to blend in to the background of the film and was not as noticeable to me. However, this is not always a bad thing. It was still an important aspect in creating the desired atmosphere, and it did not overshadow the incredible action sequences that appeared throughout the entire film.

With perfect pacing on a three-hour story that left me wanting more, it comes as no surprise that this film is quickly approaching the coveted $2 billion box office mark that very few films have seen – one of those being its predecessor, and another being Titanic (1997), all with the same director. Whether you are a fan of the franchise, director, actors, or just mildly interested in the story, I recommend seeing this film in theaters as it is a heartwarming and thought-provoking experience that is sure to make you excited for the third film.

If you enjoyed the first movie you will inevitably enjoy this one too. Sure, the story isn’t revolutionary, but we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel in that regard. It’s the ground breaking technology and innovative ways of filmmaking that James Cameron is pursuing with this franchise. Something he’s clearly wanted to dissect and break down for a long time. Visual effects in other Hollywood films are unmatched to The Way of Water. This is why I pay money to go to the movie theatre. Expand

The technique is remarkable: the facial expressions, the rendering of the liquids, the environment, etc... The soundtrack is majestic and immersive. I was able to see the film in Dolby Atmos, and that adds more immersion. The scenario when it - without spoiler-, is however not revolutionary, but it works. He is fairly fair in the father-son emotion in particular. I had concerns about Disney, but the film seems to have been consciously directed by Cameron. The story is set 10 years after the original. The Sully family lives happily in their beautifully natural world, until the "sky people" (Earthlings) descend on Pandora to mine its resources. Meanwhile, a soldier from the last mission is after the family (in his new hybrid half-Na'vi form). This drives the family to seek refuge with their neighboring waterborne tribes. Since the first film was so visually dazzling, we're expecting more of that here. There is certainly lots of appealing imagery, but it's not as impactful. Even with the excellent motion capture, it's hard to relate to the blue creatures on an emotional level. Still, this tells a compelling story with a strong final battle and plenty of visual appeal. Honest review: I was torn between a 7 or an 8. I opted for the 8 because it was a risk for james Cameron, and risks should be rewarded.

I base my review on the merits of the story, not the visual effects, which are top notch i.e. best in the industry. (Anyone who complains about too much CGI probably believes they should have used real 8 foot tall blue aliens.)

The story is the first act in a much larger story. That much is obvious It shows the cruel nature of humanity, but also the capacity for compassion. You connect with the characters. And there are so many mysteries left to be answered.

The next installment Cameron should really focus on the humans a little more and sort of state of Earth. There is this lingering idea that Earth is dying and that's what is driving humans to Pandora. But please show it, not imply it.

Let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. After rendering EarthLet's get the bad stuff out of the way first. Yes, the Way of Water has the same hamfisted and heavy-handed plot as the original, with the evil militaristic humans returning to Pandora to exploit it once again. After rendering Earth uninhabitable, humanity has obviously set its sights on wrecking Pandora's environment in the next thousand years. The human race - planetary demolition specialists! We get it. There is the obligatory mothership landing which sets off a massive forest fire. The thoughtless humans can't even bother to set their ship down in a clearing. And we get to watch more burning villages along with heartless whale hunting. And with all the military hardware, this looks more like an invasion of Afghanistan than a space colonization effort. Semper Fi!

The other thing I cannot fathom is what possessed Edie Falco to take on a nothingburger role as the general leading this mission? Carmela Soprano's big scene is a torture/interrogation where she delivers cookie-cutter lines with the deadpan tone of someone clearly checked out of this film. Did she owe James Cameron a favor or something?

Now the good. Spectacular visuals and special effects. Both the panoramic views of Pandora and the small details in the forests and the ocean are amazing. And because the main characters are all CGI Na'vi, there is no issue with the aging of the actors over the fourteen years since the original. While the movie is hugely long, it was paced well and never boring to me. If it were released as two 95-minute movies, it would be a non-issue. I enjoyed Sully's kids and their conflict with the kids in the sea village where they take refuge, and the subplot about the alien whale that one of the kids bonds with. The main plot, where Sully must again defeat Quaritch - who has improbably been brought back to life as a Na'vi clone with all his memories intact - is predictable, but the action scenes are great (including an amusing reference to Titanic in the final segment), even if so much of it is crazily improbable. Bow-slinging natives on flying lizards against heavy artillery? Ummm...no. Check your disbelief at the door.

Despite the negatives and a predictable plot, The Way of Water was an entertaining, over-the-top film. When you look at it for what it is, as a fantasy adventure and not serious science fiction, you can hand-waive the lack of nuance and accept the black-and-white "good must conquer evil" narrative. On that level, The Way of Water works.

It was a wild experience as I have never seen such amazing CGI in a film. James Cameron, the director, then announced he was making 3-4 sequels to Avatar which was kind of baffling. 13 years later, we finally get a sequel. Was the sequel worth the wait?

Firstly, the visuals of this movie are somehow even more amazing than the first film. The forest of Pandora looks more stunning than it did 13 years ago; the advance in technology is very evident. The scenes in the water look gorgeous and so real that it's hard to believe it is CGI at times. One thing with the first movie was that it felt like live-action people were in a green screen room. Avatar: The Way of Water is mostly CGI with live-action blended in. We see live-action characters move in the same scene as CGI characters and interact with one another like living beings. It didn't give that green-screen feeling, which was awesome. I also love the world-building and design of the world. There are water-based Navi clans with looks and customs that are different from the forest Navi. You can see it in their skin colour and the design of their hands and tails. The sea creatures also have great designs with their own rules and how they operate. It was clear a lot of thought was put into everything. The original 2 main characters, Jake and Neytiri, return from the 1st film but they are not the main focus this time. The main characters are their kids with Sigourney Weaver returning but playing as one of those kid characters instead. I was a little worried as kid characters tend to be annoying but I think the writer did a good job of making the kids not completely annoying. Sigourney is surprisingly convincing as a young kid and I was interested to see more of her character in the future. I think James succeeds in making us care more about these new characters than he did in Avatar 1. Jake, despite not being at the forefront this time, has his character arc. He is no longer the fearless leader he was in the 1st film as he now has 4 kids to take care of. His priority is different and he struggles with that. Stephen Lang also returns as the antagonist, Colonel Miles, again despite dying in the 1st film. He was very one-dimensional in the 1st Avatar but here they do try to give him some more depth which I appreciate.

However, Neytiri is unfortunately very sideline in this sequel. She is barely relevant until the end of the movie and even then, she doesn't have any character arc. If anything, I feel like her character somehow feels worse here. One thing I struggled with in the 1st film was remembering names including that of the main characters. Unfortunately, I still have this issue in The Way of Water. This is thanks to the fact that a character's name only ever seems to be mentioned once and never again which makes it difficult to remember anyone. For example, Kate Winslet of Titanic fame is in this movie but I wouldn't be able to tell you what her character's name was for the life of me. In terms of the story, it's very simple and by the book. It is about the kids learning the customs of a clan and struggling to fit in which sounds awfully similar to the 1st film or a high school drama. The plot works fine but it is very bland and predictable. Every cliché and trope you see from a coming-of-age story is here. The movie is also really long with a run time of 192 minutes. I'm not sure the plot justified that run time as there were many moments where a lot doesn't happen and could've been cut to reduce the runtime. James Horner, the original composer of Avatar, passed away and was thus replaced by Simon Franglen. Simon does a serviceable job but the music score is just not very memorable compared to Jame's music score. The best soundtrack in The Way of Water is the ones that were reused. Overall, Avatar: The Way of Water is a proper cinematic experience. Yes, the movie's plot and characters aren't that memorable but the visuals are truly amazing. In an era where it feels like we get a lot of poorly made CGI, it is a breath of fresh air to have a movie that has beautiful-looking CGI for what feels like the entire movie! Watching in it cinema with IMAX 3D was a terrific experience and it is the best way to watch Avatar: The Way of Water. I'm thoroughly looking forward to the sequels!

James Cameron confidence in this film is earned and whilst the three hours might be a few landscape shots too many you can't help but appreciate the splendor of it all. This sequel feels ,in plot, just as average as the first. A war between warring races for dominace on the mesmerizing pandora but the added perspective of unveiling the world not as an outsider but instead as it's native allows for it to be explored in more deliberate and fantastic ways. It allows you to witness the culture ,connect with what the Human colonial efforts threaten with their "progress ". The acting is good with well paced action. One notable flaw which I felt appeared on another visually stunning franchise, Dune, is that it feels like it owes its entire existence to setting up the next film. Which isn't too bad but when three ours and some are considered you notice the movies deliberate meandering at some points with a bit less fascination and a fraction of annoyance because you can't help but wonder the lengths it would have taken if allowed to be free of those expectations. Overall I enjoyed it and can only recommend you rush to theaters to see it as it's a spectal that deserves that big screen first impression. 8.8/10 Expand

This movie is visually breathtaking! All of the CGI and VFX felt seamless with any "real people" acting, there were points where I honestly could not decipher weather or not I was looking at a computer image or a real person. The 3-D was also amazing, normally, I don't care about 3-D at all, but it was a real treat in this movie. Definitely don't wait to stream "The Way of Water" home, watch it at the best movie screen you can watch it on.

That said, the bulk of the story was very similar to the first movie. A lot of the same story beats, except Jake is doing everything with a family instead of by himself and in a water setting instead of a forest setting. Another issue I had with the story was the underutilization of Neytiri. It felt like she didn't exist for 2/3 of the movie up to a point where she was "needed" for specific events to unfold. This may be due to giving all the new characters plenty of spot light so they can flesh out properly, which I feel like the movie did well.

While I feel "Avatar: The Way of Water" certainly doesn't live up to 13 years of expectations, it delivers in spectacle, immersion and emotion. You can really feel James Cameron's creativity and passion with this sequel. The world of Pandora has been expanded on just enough to make you hungry for the next movie.

The run time is a little long. After waiting 13 years for the sequel I'm fine with that.
I guess the biggest mistake I saw was that they spoke English too much of the movie and not enough na'vi. I'll think of it as more a reboot than a sequel though. I expect the next movie will change the pace to a more slick run time. I'd say see it.

I think it is visually stunning, which is ofcourse what everyone says but it's true. People who say this movie isn't good because it is just spectacle with no substance, I think that is unfair to the film. The underwater sequences especially were detailed, I couldn't catch everything even after watching the movie twice. I saw it first in Reald 3D. I wasn't particularly impressed by the 3D with that format but wow I saw it in the laser ultra 3D with the high frame rate the second time and it was simply jawdropping. The images were so crisp, bright, and detailed and the 3D was so immmersive especially during the water sequences and the final battle, it was the best 3D experience I've ever had. The action sequences are truly fantastic and I haven't seen any sequences like this before. I was alittle bit bothered by the high frame rate which gave some of the earlier action sequences a really unnatural video game like feel, but I got used to it. I think the whale thing went on too long and that is when the film drags. 15 to 20 minutes I think could have been shaved off. The story is one we have seen many times before but I didn't really care because it's not the point of this movie or the previous one. I was honestly sad to leave Pandora when the film ended. I wanted the next chapter to start immediately. I cared for the characters more in this movie I genuinely felt emotional in some scenes. I am planning to see it the third time on IMAX 3D and I am definitely seeing it again on the laser ultra screen which just had stunning picture quality. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As the first work was insanely good, I think that the second work, this work, had a little bad story.

It's bad that I can't empathize with family stories at all. Maybe I'll come to understand when I have a child and become a parent, but for me now, is it possible for me to be such a strong motivation for my child or family ties? I can only question.

The images were very beautiful, the 3D did not feel out of place at all, and above all, the HFR (high frame rate) images were too amazing.
Involuntarily, I took off my 3D glasses and rubbed my eyes.
"Wow! This is amazing! It moves too smoothly..."

Please watch it at an HFR compatible movie theater (IMAX, Dolby Cinema, etc.).

Not as good as the original but still worth seeing in theaters in full 3D (as of writing this) for the visual spectacle alone and to escape into the environmentalist primitive utopia of Pandora. That's still fun and unique.

James Cameron is an old man that probably should have made this movie 12 years ago when he had more spark left and the spectacle of Avatar was more fresh. Often directors this past their prime can't really make anything worthwhile. So it's a minor miracle it's still as well done as it is.

It drags on, especially in the middle. It felt, to me, at times it almost wanted to be a streaming television miniseries so they could dwell on the new introduced tribes and environments. But, it had to be a 3D movie so we get a bit of a Frankenstein. It's still so spectacular in the presentation of its fantasy world that the slog is not too distracting. The story is still simple and "iconic" with very obvious themes of good vs evil. But that also still mostly works as the first. The action scenes are pumping and brutal in the final stage of the movie and where it shines as a film experience. The emotional heart tugging moments simple though they are still hit home, at least to me. All in all still worthwhile unless you absolutely HATE 3 hour environmental fests that are clearly overly in love with alien cat indians.

Well the long wait is finally over. 13 years after the 2009 global phenomenon took the world and box office by storm, James Cameron delivers with this long belated sequel. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is now a Na'vi and living on PandoraWell the long wait is finally over. 13 years after the 2009 global phenomenon took the world and box office by storm, James Cameron delivers with this long belated sequel. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is now a Na'vi and living on Pandora among the Omaticaya clan as their leader alongside Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and their children. However, an old and familiar threat rises that threatens their home and family once again, forcing them to turn to another clan of water-dwelling Na'vi for help, and along the way, they learn to embrace the way of water (corny pun intended.) I had somewhat high hopes for this, seeing as it's been so long since the original film, and all this time I've been eagerly awaiting and anticipating to see what Cameron might do next with this spectacle of a world that he practically created from the ground up. Admittedly, I was also curious to see if he'd be able to craft a more decent story this time around too, seeing as the first film's writing/story wasn't exactly the strongest or most original material (a lot of it to this day still feels an awful lot like 'Dances With Wolves' in space.) The final results are almost exactly what I expected them to be however: a visually dazzling experience albeit with highly uninspired and derivative storytelling. The film's story not only very obviously borrows and follows several of the first film's plot points and tropes beat for beat (even down to the same musical score cues), but it also can't help but feel highly derivative of several other classic films and properties in several scenes and moments, ranging from everything from 'The Lion King ', 'Jaws', and even the just-released 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', which also felt like an 'Avatar' wannabe of a film in its own right, but I digress. I will say that the emphasis on the familial aspect in this film is genuinely touching, and you really do feel for Jake and his family often times throughout the film, and Worthington and Saldana both give solid and dedicated performances here. The previous film's villain Stephen Lang also returns in a rather unexpected way, and he also has his fair share of intense scenes and showdowns with the heroes. Seeing Sigourney Weaver here in a different role as a new Na'vi character was also somewhat unusual, but worked much better than I initially thought it would. Kate Winslet also delivers a commanding presence onscreen whenever we see her character. The action scenes throughout are also very well-crafted, particularly the final battle, which offers some genuinely tense moments throughout that I couldn't help but be reminded of another certain Cameron film that involved a famous sinking ship (*hint hint*) Last but far from least, the visuals and grand world of Pandora, both land and water, are the real star of the show of course. If not his scriptwriting abilities, never doubt Cameron's visual storytelling abilities, because the CGI and effects here do NOT disappoint! Seriously, see this bad boy in IMAX if you can! It's well worth the extra cost! Every tiny and obscure little detail onscreen is so unbelievably vibrant and fully realized! It truly has to be seen to be believed! Overall, another thinly-written and uninspired story that can't help but make the film feel a little too much like 'Avatar: Greatest Hits/Moments Playlist' at times certainly didn't spoil my mesmerization thanks entirely to the absolutely beautiful, grand, and lush visuals that Cameron never disappoints with. All things considered, it still was pretty fun returning to Pandora after such a long wait. Expand

While the film is long on style (it truly is gorgeous to look at), it comes up short on substance. The script is the main problem here, telling a tale that’s not overly engaging or insightful (certainly much less so than its more compelling predecessor) and full of story threads that either regurgitate material from the original or borrow from a variety of other sources, both narratively and visually. Then there’s the runtime, coming in at a whopping 3:13:00, far, far longer than it needs to be, especially in the overly protracted closing hour. The action sequences become a bit tiresome and gratuitous after a while, and other segments feel like a polished travelogue for the Pandora Chamber of Commerce. What’s more, there are storylines left unresolved, making this a picture that can’t fully live up to being a standalone entity (one of my moviemaking pet peeves). To its credit, though, the picture’s pacing is surprisingly tolerable for a film of this length, and it makes excellent use of its 3D technology (perhaps better than any other movie in which I’ve seen it employed in recent years). Still, for an offering that’s been 13 years in the making, I expected something a little fresher and more inventive than this. But, for those who can’t get enough of this franchise, this installment should satisfy nicely. And, if not, fans can look forward to three more sequels scheduled to be released over the next six years (though I’m not sure how many of them I’ll be seeing). Expand

The story recycle many elements of the first movie, way too much...and that includes, the villain and almost a large part of the story. Visually the movie is stunning. The acting is difficult to judge since you got CGI for a face. All the performances looked fines to me. The movies becomes very long around the end, because it's one action sequence after another, you get very little pauses. The action are really good however. They just put too much of them in successions. The music was fair. Sounds effects are incredible, just like for the first. I give the movie 75%. Great movie but too long with problems of balance. And the story is nothing to write about, it's basically Avatar 1 in water. Expand

Pretty solid. Would be an 8 if around 45 minutes was cut from the movie. It just didn't need to be that long.

An enthralling visual spectacle that certainly impresses, but also fails to reward the viewer for the 3 hours invested due to its weak plot.

And yes, we can argue throughout that the story wasn't supposed to be the most important element of this film, but for a sequel coming 13 years later, it gives the feeling that Cameron was polishing the technology he wanted to present, rather than focusing on making his ''epic'' truly epic.

The rating I give it responds to the ambition and the enormous talent and effort that is seen in every frame.
The level of CGI seen here makes a mockery of any other film of the last decade and by far.
It really gives the feeling that you are there experiencing it, however, that also comes with the problem that James Cameron wants you to live his world, his imagination, with nothing else in between.

The second hour could easily pass as the video that exists in the Disney World attraction and that's the key problem with this sequel, that Cameron's ego was focused on pushing as much of the technical element as possible to the exclusion of everything else.

There is a death that should be crucial to the narrative and yet I felt nothing for the character, because basically I didn't even know him.
They are details, quite a few, to tell the truth, but nothing that ruins the experience.

But I do tell you, this movie is worth seeing by all means and I must emphasize that.
Avatar: The Way of Water is an audiovisual journey that deserves to be experienced in the big screen, but keep in mind at all times what kind of show you're watching. You're not watching arthouse cinema, don't embarrass yourself by comparing them.

IMAX 3D is a must.

I can safely say that CGI has never looked this good in a movie before, especially when you consider the meandering quality of CGI in recent Disney produced films. This movie, without a doubt, does have incredible visuals; however…the rest of this long awaited Sci-Fi epic is fairly inconsistent. The film is over three hours long yet it still had some pretty noticeable pacing issues, with certain plot points needing more context and time to grow and others not making much sense at all. The Way of Water also has a pretty inconsistent plot that a lot of the time makes the film feel like its two entirely different movies, with neither being able fully tell a great story. I would recommend seeing The Way of Water despite my criticisms; if only for the revolutionary visuals, pretty decent performances, and a few really incredible scenes that both thematically and cinematically blew me away. I do look forward to future entries in this franchise and hope that more context and detail is added to the overall multi-film long story that Director James Cameron wants to tell. It will be interesting to see where these movies will go in the future, that's for sure. Expand

It has been 13 years since the original Avatar became one of the highest grossing movies in history. It was a huge spectacle with a new planet, Pandora; indigenous people, the Na’vi; motion capture performances and a lot of never-before-seen technology. The plot was pretty basic, but the impact of the all the technical impacts made it more than the sum of its parts. Here, we are all these years later and finally the long-awaited sequel has been released. James Cameron has submerged us in the waters of Pandora for the first of many sequels called Avatar: The Way of Water.

As a quick refresher, at the end of Avatar, Jake Sully, who was human in Avatar form, becomes part of the Na’vi. He’s fallen in love with Neytiri and her people. Years later, we find Jake Sully living a peaceful life with his family in the forests of Pandora, but the threat of the sky people’s return looms. Of course, that threat comes to destroy Jake’s family’s peace. Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na’vi race to protect their home. Blue combat hijinks ensue.

Now, everything about this movie screams big screen viewing. We have James Cameron, a long delay since the first movie, awesome tech and CGI, big fight scenes etc. This highly imaginative movie just lacks imagination. Yes, that seems contradictory to state, but it’s the best way to describe what’s going on here. For such a long delay for this sequel to come, Cameron and crew failed to use those years to expand upon the Avatar universe and tell a more interesting story. While we’re dealing with slightly new creatures that live in the water rather than the forest, the plot is basically the same as the original. The real question is whether the new technology that’s been developed and utilized in making The Way of Water makes this movie worthwhile. I’m fairly ambivalent about it.

On one hand, the spectacle of the effects is truly stunning. The water is so blue and clear. The colors are dazzling. Your eyes can barely keep up because there is something new to see, it seems, in every frame. There are animals that we haven’t seen before that dominate the screen. Those animals have personalities of their own. The integration of real human performances with the motion capture performances is pretty seamless as well. There really isn’t anything wrong with the look of Avatar: The Way of Water. Also, when the action kicks into high gear 90 minutes into the movie, the tension and momentum take over and make the last 90 minutes sail by.

On the other hand, when a movie is 3 hours long, it would be great for it to be at least a little unpredictable. It feels like every beat of the story is either a carbon copy of what happened in the original or it is a predictable extension of what’s to come. Furthermore, the obvious environmental theme is not very subtle. It is good that the filmmakers have a point of view and that this crazy, action spectacle has something to say about our world, but does it have to be so obvious? Really, 3 hours to tell this story??? No, sir! Not necessary.

S2S: Official Rating Scale
Ultimately, the wait for Avatar: The Way of Water was worth it. The technology and effects that are used to bring this movie to life are truly spectacular. The story itself is not as imaginative as the tools used to tell it. Also, you have to sacrifice 3 hours of your day to this. The movie should be seen on the big screen – that’s pretty obvious – but an early matinee should suffice. Get a bowl of popcorn and you might need another snack to tide you over.

The first part had a lot of flair for me in all respects. It was something completely new for me and nice to watch and that applies here as well of course. It definitely does, but it doesn't apply as much for me anymore, because the water world, while not bad, doesn't hold a candle to Pandora, which I certainly enjoyed more. I also liked more of the characters because the previous episode was mainly Jake and Neytiri and here they added the kids and they didn't really grab me, or at least not nearly as much as the previous aforementioned pair. Other than that, I enjoyed in the first one how she was Pandora at times and Jake as a person at times, which is no longer the case here. The action was cool, but again I have to mention the previous episode where in my opinion it was better. What didn't please me was the music, because unfortunately it was the same in places and that just reminded me of scenes from the first one, which I liked better. The same music is probably the worst thing about this movie for me because even though some parts were visually nice, they didn't impress me as much because of the music, which was the same. I'm constantly comparing the second movie to the first, but unfortunately I can't help it. The first one won me over, but the second one didn't. I'm not saying it was a bad movie. But unfortunately it appealed to me much, much less than its predecessor. However, it's still nice to look at visually and still offers some good action sequences. For me, a good movie to recommend and maybe even grab you if you love the underwater world and water in general. Personally though, I prefer 2009's Pandora, which charmed me and more importantly it was definitely easier to get the viewer's attention back then as it was something new and came with 3D for the first time. The second one had a harder time and wasn't as successful in my eyes as the first one. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, this movie is outstandingly beautiful, and there's a lot of good work put into it, a great experience to watch and have a lot of fun. But, in other ways this movie fails with repetitive situations, predictable moments, and messy scenes, especially in the beginning and the end. The development of being in the new water tribe is beautiful and pleasant to watch, where it's easy to feel the difficulties that it is to fit in the community, every character has their role in the movie and work well with each other, as well as their fights and bonds are understandable and relatable. Overall this movie works petty well and really opens Avatar's world to a new concept of magnitude and complexity, while bringing new, compelling and important characters to the drama, and also bringing beautiful scenes where we really feel connected to the movie and the universe Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Visually Amazing but sadly Too Long

This time, I made an exception by havin an expectation bout this movie. Ofc, its coz this is directed by one of the greatest directors in Hollywood, James Cameron. Luckily, this movie reaches my expectation.

This movie is a sequel to the previous movie with a plot in Pandora Planet, full of alien races named Avatar. After the failure of the human race to take over the planet, some of them seek revenge for a rebellious human officer, Jake Sully who is actually siding with them rather than the human race. Then, this movie is about Jake Sully's famz survival from human revenge.

What I love about this movie are the visuals, audio, and magical world. Ofc, it happens because the previous movie also gives these to the audiences. So, it reaches the audience's expectations including mine. But, the best thing is visual. Feels very magical and mesmerizing. From the beginning, the movie also gives a blueish world all the time. To make it better, it gives us fictional ethnic culture including voices that are kinda like an animal wants to bite, lol. Besides that, the best plot happens when the ending is narrated through 3 different plots which each different struggles. I didn’t expect this and might be similar to the Titanic movie coz happened in the water too.

Sadly, this movie is too long. More than 3 hrs? Why? I keep wondering about this movie's duration. I didn’t think it deserve that long. Perhaps, 2-2.5 hrs still plausible. I drank coffee before watching but sadly I feel so sleepy when starting around 2 hrs, lol. Besides that, this movie so year-end vibes because bring family issues and their importance of them. Tbh, I get bored with this but no offense, it’s a purely subjective opinion.

The bottom line, this movie perfectly has amazing visuals! The ending was also great! The best starter pack are coffee, chips or snack or popcorn, Dolby atmos studio, and maybe IMAX? Perfectly fulfilled our year-end vibes, but sometimes is boring, lol. Great movie to watch! This is a James Cameron artwork! He was the director of Titanic in case u don’t know him, shame on you if u really don’t know HAHA.
7/10.

VFX: 20/10, The visuals of this film can probably cure blindness.
Story and plot: 4/10, very below standard nothing that gets you thinking.
Characters: 6/10, not that many exciting characters besides Jake and His Wife and a child that technically isn't his.
Action: 8/10, good action but not overly satisfying.

It's a 7/10, overall, it's not a bad film, it's just a simple one, with no depth, it's pretty much the aftermath of the first film and not a sequel that goes somewhere significant. Though I would probably watch the third movie, to see the revenge plot play out, hopefully, the 3rd movie is not 4 hours, James should focus on putting more time into Story and Plot and not showing glowing lights for 30 minutes.
