This movie is a technical marvel. From a visual standpoint, i was completely blown away. Story was quite simple just like the first, but it works so well. This movie at is core, is about protecting our loved ones and the planet we live on.

The highest grossing film of all time isn't easy to live up to, and Avatar 2's pacing does suffer from time to time, it feels occasionally clunky because it has to serve as a continuation of a story very much wrapped up, but a prequel to the real meat of the story that's happening the subsequent three sequels. While the film doesn't accomplish all those in strides, it still makes a great theatrical experience. Expand

Many jump scares, this movie had so much potential but just got boring near the middle. So long for what! To tell us the story of almost nothing? Beautiful scenes though. Every frame is aesthetically pleasing and I love that,

It really did make me feel like a kid again, with a story that has both stakes and the visuals to back it up. My 90 year old grandparents, who never go to see movies, went and saw this and loved it, and this movie is almost 200 minutes long. The world building is also really well done, an underrated ability is to be able to completely flesh out an entire universe, make it feel big, real and lived in, with no written source material to lean back on. This franchise feels on par with Harry Potter, Marvel, The Lord of the Rings, and it is something that I am truly grateful of, especially with the state of cinema post pandemic. If you liked the first, go see this one, and if you didn’t give this one a try. Expand

Didn't expect anything from 2nd Avatar, but 3 and a half hour pasted unnoticed. The plot is simple and easy for understand, but do not feel like something you've watched already. I felt the new and old heroes motivation, liked the new sides of plot as father's/sons problems, maturity, war and loss sadness (me as being Ukrainian felt it very well). The graphic is not simply spectacular (Aquaman feels like cheap China crap in comparison), but make a new benchmark for all blockbusters. 10 of 10 absolutely! An emotional journey that gripped me the moment the story began. The visual effects were amazing as well as the musical score, but if I didn't enjoy myself I'd give nowhere near a perfect rating regardless of the technical aspect as I only rate on enjoyment.

I can safely say that CGI has never looked this good in a movie before, especially when you consider the meandering quality of CGI in recent Disney produced films. This movie, without a doubt, does have incredible visuals; however…the rest of this long awaited Sci-Fi epic is fairly inconsistent. The film is over three hours long yet it still had some pretty noticeable pacing issues, with certain plot points needing more context and time to grow and others not making much sense at all. The Way of Water also has a pretty inconsistent plot that a lot of the time makes the film feel like its two entirely different movies, with neither being able fully tell a great story. I would recommend seeing The Way of Water despite my criticisms; if only for the revolutionary visuals, pretty decent performances, and a few really incredible scenes that both thematically and cinematically blew me away. I do look forward to future entries in this franchise and hope that more context and detail is added to the overall multi-film long story that Director James Cameron wants to tell. It will be interesting to see where these movies will go in the future, that's for sure. Expand

Though some people said the plot was incompleted and unconvinced, it is because there are 3 more movies to develop the plot. If they did everything in Avatar 2 then what else was left in the following ones? The unfinished problems will be solved in parts 3, 4, and 5, and that’s why the ending was the open one. Honest review: I was torn between a 7 or an 8. I opted for the 8 because it was a risk for james Cameron, and risks should be rewarded.

I base my review on the merits of the story, not the visual effects, which are top notch i.e. best in the industry. (Anyone who complains about too much CGI probably believes they should have used real 8 foot tall blue aliens.)

The story is the first act in a much larger story. That much is obvious It shows the cruel nature of humanity, but also the capacity for compassion. You connect with the characters. And there are so many mysteries left to be answered.

The next installment Cameron should really focus on the humans a little more and sort of state of Earth. There is this lingering idea that Earth is dying and that's what is driving humans to Pandora. But please show it, not imply it.

Those who base their entire review on the plot are just delusional. You can't objectively watch this movie and say it isn't one of the most stunning visual and cinematographic experiences you ever had, if not the best one.

The level of detail Cameron put in this is actually unbelievable. If you put your attention on the world building, on the amount of credible alien-animal creatures he created, on the scenery he imagined, you will be stunned.

Talking about the plot, it may be simple (just as some of the highest rated movies ever), but it improved a lot from the first one. Besides, if you dig just a little bit deeper, you will notice a lot of symbolism, mythology and sub-plots which develop throughout the movie.

During its 3 hour running time, it touches themes such as the strength of family values, the fallacies of group ideologies and traditions, the psychological toll of being different and the ever changing human-nature relationship. It makes you fall in love with Pandora, and in return, to our Planet.

You can really tell Cameron and his team spent years not only researching ancient human tribes dynamics and mythology to make the movie ones realistic, but also creating new recording techniques that will improve the cinema industry from now on.

Everything you see seems real: there's no distinction between CGI and reality. I'd also like to highlight Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver acting. Just amazing.

If you want to live an almost out of body experience and just be amazed for three hours, go watch it. You won't regret it.

An enthralling visual spectacle that certainly impresses, but also fails to reward the viewer for the 3 hours invested due to its weak plot.

And yes, we can argue throughout that the story wasn't supposed to be the most important element of this film, but for a sequel coming 13 years later, it gives the feeling that Cameron was polishing the technology he wanted to present, rather than focusing on making his ''epic'' truly epic.

The rating I give it responds to the ambition and the enormous talent and effort that is seen in every frame.
The level of CGI seen here makes a mockery of any other film of the last decade and by far.
It really gives the feeling that you are there experiencing it, however, that also comes with the problem that James Cameron wants you to live his world, his imagination, with nothing else in between.

The second hour could easily pass as the video that exists in the Disney World attraction and that's the key problem with this sequel, that Cameron's ego was focused on pushing as much of the technical element as possible to the exclusion of everything else.

There is a death that should be crucial to the narrative and yet I felt nothing for the character, because basically I didn't even know him.
They are details, quite a few, to tell the truth, but nothing that ruins the experience.

But I do tell you, this movie is worth seeing by all means and I must emphasize that.
Avatar: The Way of Water is an audiovisual journey that deserves to be experienced in the big screen, but keep in mind at all times what kind of show you're watching. You're not watching arthouse cinema, don't embarrass yourself by comparing them.

IMAX 3D is a must.

Simply BEAUTIFUL.
Avatar 2 explore in a deeper way the characters and set a new beginning for the war of Pandora.
Jake's sons are well developed and interesting characters, the Metkayna tribe is beautiful and their Way of Water is fascinating with outstanding creatures and beautiful philosophy.
Yes, Quaritch return and break out from the stereotype of the "bad marine", even him is developed more and that's really good.
Avatar 2 is technically a masterpiece with a story more "of transition" but crucial for the develope of characters and always enjoyable, with even comedy scenes never cringy (not marvel style, for god sake...).

Cameron you're a genius, thanks!

The story recycle many elements of the first movie, way too much...and that includes, the villain and almost a large part of the story. Visually the movie is stunning. The acting is difficult to judge since you got CGI for a face. All the performances looked fines to me. The movies becomes very long around the end, because it's one action sequence after another, you get very little pauses. The action are really good however. They just put too much of them in successions. The music was fair. Sounds effects are incredible, just like for the first. I give the movie 75%. Great movie but too long with problems of balance.

Yes, the theme is fairly straightforward - one of protection and conservation of nature - but the story has evolved as this time it focuses on Jake and his role as a father and leader. It also introduces his kids and the rebellious nature of adolescents, and the consequences of such. These ideas are universal across all culture and are brilliantly displayed on the big screen. You don't need plot twists and incredibly complex characters to tell a compelling story.

Even though it's over 3 hours, there wasn't a boring moment in the film, and the pacing is appropriate. Being the second of a 5 film series, the ending is more of a pause than a conclusion but that's ok given the scope of the project.

Overall, It's an immensely enjoyable film that appeals to everyone, young and old, and is quite possibly worth multiple viewings in a cinema.

First of all, this movie is outstandingly beautiful, and there's a lot of good work put into it, a great experience to watch and have a lot of fun. But, in other ways this movie fails with repetitive situations, predictable moments, and messy scenes, especially in the beginning and the end. The development of being in the new water tribe is beautiful and pleasant to watch, where it's easy to feel the difficulties that it is to fit in the community, every character has their role in the movie and work well with each other, as well as their fights and bonds are understandable and relatable. Overall this movie works petty well and really opens Avatar's world to a new concept of magnitude and complexity, while bringing new, compelling and important characters to the drama, and also bringing beautiful scenes where we really feel connected to the movie and the universe Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
