I almost spent $40 on Imax 3D tickets; however, I was able to dodge a big bullet and use my money elsewhere. I truly believe Disney and Marvel don't care anymore. Durning the first 10 years of Marvel I had some of the most exciting movie theater experiences. Now I'm always preparing myself to be disappointed by an empty story pushed by a political agenda. The last couple phases of Marvel have been extremely exhausting to watch and I'm embarrassed to say I even saw them in the theater. Marvel (Disney) is failing the fan base and they don't give two sh.... about it. Expand

I had low expectations going into this one. Following the mediocre reception, it was beginning to receive online, coupled with the fact that the MCU has been slowly but steadily declining and quality ever since the Infinity Saga ended, and my doubts and fears proved entirely correct, cause this was average in every way imaginable. Underwhelming story, cringey dialogue from beginning to end, hideous visual effects that simply can't be appreciated, especially in the wake of the newest 'Avatar', the list goes on and on. Rudd's his usual charming self here, and Lilly, Pfeiffer, and Douglas are both enjoyable to watch once again. Even Newton as Scott's daughter Cassie manages to hold her own pretty well here. Even Bill Murray drops in for a brief cameo in one scene, but it simply feels wasted when all's said and done. The real MVP here is Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, whose character is set up in a very major way, especially during the two post-credit scenes. He gives a raw and totally solid performance that stands out better than anyone else in the film does. Unfortunately, not even this likable cast can save a lacking story with ugly visuals that I truly wish I never have to bear witness to again. Overall, it's unfortunately yet another step backwards for the MCU, and I truly feel as though it's golden days are well behind it. Expand

Great Star Wars rip off.
It was the best Star Wars rip off since Space Balls. It took the MCU for Disney to give us a decent Star Wars movie. Kang is emperor Palpatine, MODOK is Darth Vader, Ant-Man is Han Solo, practically every character plays one or more stand-ins of Star Wars characters. They even rip off the cantina scene from New Hope.
If you enjoy this movie it's all because you have a good time laughing at all the scenes and aspects they rip off from the original Star Wars trilogy.
This isn't a good MCU movie, but it's a decent and fun Star Wars rip off.
1/10 as an MCU film. Would've been a 10/10 if Disney marketed this as an MCU spoof of Star Wars because I cracked up everytime this movie turned into a Star Wars rip off.

Most of it is just talking in 3 locations. Half or it is just talking in 3 locations.
The CGI gets boring very quickly. This is effectively an aminated product.
The Wasp saved this product, while the old lady is in there the most and dictates this product. Makes me wonder, why it is considered an "Antman" product.
Deus-Ex-Ant-Machina. They just pull it out of thin air and it makes no sense.
Kang is insanely boring. All he can is building B-Level storm troopers. And shoot laser that vaporizes people.
The Stormtroopers did nothing. They lost against guys with swords.
The "Massage" of capitalism bad and socialism good is insulting. The makers clearly never seen what happened to the ideologies when millions of people were killed and had to suffer for "utopia".

Paul Rudd is funny up to a point because his humorous skills only go so far and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has put him to the test because while you can blame it on the script and the directing, I think it's more than proven that he's already gone as far as he can go, and I doubt there's more to do for him on this franchise.

This third installment of Ant-Man is colorful and fun. Another entry with more of the familiar Marvel Studios fare, but this is where you can already tell they're starting to hit a wall that they're being unable to climb over, and as the saying goes, all's well that ends well.
This is entertainment that doesn't do anything else beyond the time you're going to be sitting in the movie theater.

Kevin Feige has already shown his plan for the next three years, but the MCU has lost steam and I'm not quite sure what its future will look like heading into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The weight of this film's existence lies in putting Kang into perspective in a way that Loki was unable to.
The plot itself has no major relevance to other events. In fact, the real weight of Kang's entrance lies in the mid-credits scene, as Marvel did surprise me there by making the introduction of the council of Kangs so early with the appearances of Immortus and Rama-Tut, characters who I honestly didn't expect to see so early.
And that's pretty much the film's offering.

Also, we're in the fifteenth year of the MCU. So, you know very well where you stand. The ''This is not cinema'' argument is getting tiresome.

Marvel is becoming a dying breed. As it opts out for something relevant, and fails to bring anything emotive or resonant. I commend the filmmakers for trying to entertain us, but this has run its course and people can tell.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" was...... Mid.

And I say that, going into this Marvel film with the utmost enthusiasm: I was hoping for an exciting start to phase 5 since we had such a dim and unfocused phase 4, but instead, we open with a whimper for this newest phase. Using Ant-Man to start off phase 5 seemed like a very interesting and safe choice as this was more of a “Marvel kick off” film than it was an actual “Ant-Man” film, if that makes sense.

The first noticeable issue with this film was in the visual effects. While there were a lot of cool and fun ideas, it’s clear that the visual effects weren’t given ample time to be worked in properly. Like most Marvel films with this issue, the visuals reflect how rushed and overworked the VFX teams are for these movies, being given little time to work properly. We were given a new character who came out looking worse than Mr. Electric from 2005’s “Sharkboy and Lavagirl.” I don’t know if making them look like that was intentional, but even if it was intentional… It still looked terrible. It seems like the visual effects in Marvel films are showing more and more fatigue similar to my ever-growing MCU fatigue.

Most of the performances were decent, though, said performances are weakened by the biggest most annoying issue with current Marvel movies which is the seemingly obsessive need to make every character a quippy-kooky-quirkster, and stuffing humor into scenes where humor doesn't belong. This phenomenon seems to be getting worse and worse with each piece of Marvel media that is released. I think “Quantumania” would have been better if there wasn’t so much forced, sitcomy humor undercutting all the action and drama… It just gets in the way. However, the main spot where this movie gets ANY real clean praise at all, would be with Jonathan Majors performance as Kang: My dude delivered in every aspect especially when compared to other performances (Kathryn Newton was lookin’ kinda stiff out there) and being this films saving grace. Kang was big and menacing and even a bit sympathetic at some points, establishing himself as a solid antagonist for the MCU.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" isn’t a bad movie, but boy-howdy, is it underwhelming. Watching events unfold in this film was like watching someone play a videogame on easy mode for the first 2/3 until the last 1/3 of the film where the pause button is pushed, and the difficulty setting is switched to hard mode only because the steaks had to be higher because it was the end of the movie. If this is how we're starting a MCU phase, then I'm kinda worried for the rest of Phase 5 and Phase 6. Hopefully things pick up a bit in the next few shows/movies.

5/10, the score would be lower had it not been for Jonathan Majors’ performance as Kang.

The humor was so stale that the theater was silent almost the entire time any form of joke was made (attempted) Plot was terrible and should've been used for another character that isn't AntMan. AntMans character isn't designed for anything heavily intertwined with plot, and he especially isn't someone to use when introducing MCU's new Villain. This movie seems like they just wanted to get AntMans movie out of the way because they had no idea what to do with him.

There's no issues with the casting, however, the new writing makes it seem like they're taking two toys from opposing companies and trying to make it work.

They also need to bring back Michael Peña - he stole both of the two movies .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Quantumania was a movie that had some flaws. The story wasn't so bad but was mare with illogical tropes and decision. Like the one of the mother never talking about the realm or Kang. that makes no sens. And suddenly, you can breath in that realm. Murray is a glorified cameo. The acting is unequal. The best one is Kang actor and by far. Mordok was just poor, in terms of the who, the how. The humour is almost absent. I missed Luis and his gang. The CGI is nice, but of course, is done in a dark setting from beginning to end. Better rendering time I guess, but it didn't help to clarify the scenes and the actions. The music is good, and the sounds really decent. I give it 62%. A CGI fest with a lot of holes in the story. For me the weakest of the Ant-man. Expand

Not the worst Marvel movie, but also very mediocre. Facts;
1. this movie is completely pointless. Ant-man did not need a third movie.
2. Kang, the villain sucks and isn't terrifying or intimidating. the black actor who plays this guy did a better job in Creed 3. Kang sucks compared to the majority of villains. 3. more lame, unfunny jokes and you need a special sense of humor to even crack a smile here.
4. The same exact CGI action sequences that are in every other Marvel movie for the last decade.

While I wouldn't say it's a completely bad movie, it is sub-par (right under average), and it is a one time watch only. I'll be waiting until this one is on deep sale on 4k just because I want it for my collection. Super glad I didn't waste money on this at the theater. Thank goodness for free torrents. These crappy Disney/Marvel movies do not deserve my money, nor yours, at the theater.

Oh, I have to stress again how bad Kang is as a villain. And actually I need to lower my score from a 4 to a 3 because of how much I absolutely do not care about Kang returning in any Marvel movie, ever. I pity the fool who will go see Ant-Man 4 or whichever movie has Kang.

Paul Rudd is great as Antman but he is also buried under so many other things going on. The rebels on the Quantum Realm was okay but they were an unnecessary inclusion because it Antman and the Wasp I thought needed more development time for development. I thought Jonathan Majors as Kang was good but I wasn't as crazy about him like everyone else. I thought the best parts were the scenes with Michelle Pfeiffer and Kang. I also thought her and Michael Douglas looked amazing in the film and Hank Pym had some really funny lines. I enjoyed the first act alot more than the latter half especially the Bill Murray scene. Janet is more fleshed out, shown as more flawed instead of being a mary sue,but not too flawed to the point of being an anti-hero. The plot is decent and not that bad. Ant-man's motivation for getting the core retains his one deciding trait for changing and turning his life around: his love for Cassie, which is a trait that is admirable in its own. Kang is not too shabby, being one of those evil cos why not sort of villains. I'm a little tired of sympathatic ones, tho i wouldn't mind it.
Cons- The film's story could have better and have more emotional impact if the pacing was a little slower. They also could have given more focus to Hank and Hope, especially Hank, because now he seems to be just comic relief, making him out of focus despite him being important to Ant man's life and franchise at the start.

Quite boring, less humorous and honestly, disappointing since I had high high hopes for this movie. The post credit scene (1) was amazing, even the last one was quite cool. If I had to sum it up, it's more like a poorly produced children's movie with a low budget. The only reason why I gave it a 6/10 is because of some cool characters like Veb, the post credits scene, the initial scenes in the beginning (exploration of the Quantum realm, and Hope/Janet. Without them, it would be a 1/10! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was 45 minutes into this thinking "This isn't that bad. What's everyone's problem. Why the hate?" I mean up to that point it wasn't great but it also wasn't that bad.

Aaaaand then MODOK. I mean a $200mil budget and that's what they came up with. That simple reveal was enough to ruin the entire movie for me. I've never watched a movie that managed to do that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is not as good as the two previous Ant-Man movies, mainly because it struggles to adapt the Quantum Realm, and ends up been like a Star Wars movie, and not a Marvel one. Also, Kang story is so confusing, if he was so dangerous, and his other variants locked him there, why Scott Lang was able to kill him? But there is still plenty of good things, like Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer’s performances, Kathryn Newton is incredible as Cassie Lang, her daughter-father relationship is one of the highlights of the film. Vissual Effects are great and even if it was strange sometimes, MODOK was terrific. In the post credit scene, why there are so many Kangs, is because Sylvie kill the variant controlling them, but why do they locked one of them in the Quantum Real? I still can’t figure that out, the Kang variant in Loki said that a multiversal war was coming if he died, but the variants still locked the “most dangerous one”. Not that there were mostly evil? Things that I hope Loki or other Marvel project will able to explain us Expand

A lot of harsh reviews. I will try to be fair. The film isn't a 0, but it's not a 10 either. I think it's a fair 6.

I am a big fan of Ant-Man, and I like most of the MCU content generally. This here is a decent MCU film, a great new expansion of Ant-Man lore, and the introduction (or re-introduction) of an exciting new character.

That being said, I found some parts of the story to be more difficult to digest. Janet works hard to justify herself in how she never bothered to tell everyone about "The Conqueror". And the Conqueror himself sure explains a lot about his multiversal conflict. This is of course the MCU talking to us, the audience, through this film. But i find this sort of thing more and more obvious, and it makes the film feel less like an Ant-Man film, and more about a "what you need to know about" film. It's like the movie is retconning itself sometimes. This is nothing new for recent MCU content, they do that more and more. But for an Ant-Man film, it's a bit disappointing.

The movie is also set 95% in the Quantum Realm, where almost everything is CGI. To me it looked great, but I won't argue against someone with the opposite opinion. CGI landscapes can feel grand, just like they can feel empty. They can look fake, or beautiful. Sometimes it's both.

I am also a fan of Modok, generally speaking. I liked seeing this version of him in the film, and I enjoyed the explanation behind it. But I feel like it's a bit of a waste. The movie would be the same without him, basically.

I felt a bit confused at the end of the film however. Perhaps i was a bit tired, but near the end I felt like i had missed a scene and suddenly it was ending. I don't want to give too many spoilers, so I cannot say too much.

It had a different feel than the other Antman movies. Closer to the first Guardians of the Galaxy with the way the quantum realm looked and there was nothing wrong with the CGI. It was also more like Thor: Ragnorok in the way it fits within the larger MCU. Am I a nerd and seen all their other movies and shows... yes, and this was the best one in awhile. Phase 4 was ok, and it's hard to top Endgame, but I like where they're going. Jonathan Major's Kang is amazing and probably the best villain yet in the MCU. Hope's Wasp wasn't in it very much, but Janet van Dyne was and it better than Hope anyway. Things can grow and shrink beyond your control so let loose and have a good time. It has its flaws though. A lot of plot shortcuts and blaise supporting characters. The 2 characters that stand out the most are Kang and MODOK. Steller performances from both of them. And I didn't mind the different CGI technique they chose. It was awesome and endearing. Anyways, I give this a low matinee but go out and watch it whenever you can

Edit: a lot of reviews say the stakes should have felt higher. It is high but just like an ant trying to understand the world around itself, you cannot fathom the destruction of multiple universes in just 2 hours. That's why they designed the movie so it seems silly and curt.

In the meantime I found QMania better than I expected. To me John Majors does NOT seem like hes in a different Shakespeare movie. He does seem like the most believable person where everyone else is in Your Average Super Hero Effort. I believe QMania has the same problem many creative but low-grossing sci-fi fantasy films have. Audience sophistication is over-estimated. It plays like it was made for an audience of CGI professionals, NOT a mass audience. "...writer Jeff Loveness, is making up the rules as it goes along, which is why “Quantumania” whisks you through its visually zapping action without generating any real investment in it" ~ Owen Gleiberman in Variety

Compare with Way of Water. Avatar 2's heroic and cerebral gags never overshadow its characters and audiences can ride on the solid emotional thru line even if it's predictable. By contrast, Quantumania appears to be for audiences whose idea of fun is Siggraph conference presentations.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The 3rd Ant Man movie doesn't fail to impress to show the in-depth magnitude and scale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We are introduced to so many next exciting characters and creatures, not to mention our understanding of the quantum realm has been completely transformed in the process!
The returning cast knock it out of the park with their humor, emotional and heroic moments, but if this film has done one thing for me and EVERYONE watching it..........it's the realisation that Jonathan Majors Kang is the most terrifying new threat the MCU will have to face!!!
Kang is so scary and powerful, but this performance was made 100 times more impact full thanks to Majors acting and Reeds direction.

In short I have absolutely no idea why the critics slamed this movie, my large group of a dozen regular movie going friends (where some hate marvel and others love it) they all enjoyed Ant Man 3's movie experience and we all thought this movie started off not just the year but Phase 5 with a bang, or should I say a KANG!!!

This movie is an epic adventure on an monumental scale. Marvel has pulled this off spectacularly creating a whole new glorious world throwing in our favourite Marvel family into it adding a good measure of lovable and dangerous characters. IThis movie is an epic adventure on an monumental scale. Marvel has pulled this off spectacularly creating a whole new glorious world throwing in our favourite Marvel family into it adding a good measure of lovable and dangerous characters. I also liked that they continued on the father daughter relationship from the 1st movie and giving every father the valuable lesson that at a point we have to trust our daughters to find their own way. We are also introduced to the new villain and he is truly daunting with some amazing fight sequences with Ant man. Just don’t go expecting an Earth adventure when the movie title states Quantumania. It’s a broad, generic sci fi action movie chock full of the expected tropes that misses the mark when it tries for earnestness. Definitely felt like a continuation of phase 4 more than the launch of a new phase. Expand

Definitely not as bad as critics scores indicate. Some goofy moments but an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable popcorn romp!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie gets a suprising amount of hate, which I dont fully understand I thought the movie was very entertaining. It doesn't always take itself seriously but ant man movies never did that and I think that a part of their charm. The last marvel movie Thor 4 was also criticised that it focused to much on comedy and didn't take the time to be serious, Ant Man 3 had a lot of things that were even weirder and more ridiculous than in Thor but they managed to make something so silly feel quite serious and not just a total joke. At the end of the film at somepoint when they were fighting kangs army they get support from a giant army made of highly advanced futuristic ants, at the start when everyone got sucked into the quantum realm hanks ants in the room got somewhere lost in time and build a civilation much more advanced than our own for thousands of years. It felt fitting for ant man to fight kang with an army of giant ants kind of like in the first movie but this time the ants could actually do something and honestly the scene where the ants stormed kangs palace was just awesome. This movie has so many absolutely crazy and ridiculous ideas but I think they pulled it off perfectly, especially with these crazy ideas the cgi is critiqued as rushed or just generaly bad when I watched the movie I didn't notice any of that critic maybe the cgi is flawed but not that much that you will actually notice watching the movie in cinema. Kang was of course the main villain of the movie and they really showed just how absurdly powerful kang is, I don't think that scott should have defeated him the way he did I don't want scott to die but it would have been better if scott sacrificed himself to defeat kang. I think the movie is incredible there are a few flaws but you will enjoy the movie. Expand

This weekend Marvel released its third film on the little hero with a big heart, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. And, child, there is some mania going on here. If you've missed the previous two Ant-Man movies, this edition follows up with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd/Ant-Man) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly, The Wasp), along with Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), as they are forced to explore the Quantum Realm again. This time they find it's not as barren as previously thought, and they end up interacting with strange creatures and embarking on an adventure that goes beyond the limits of what they previously thought was possible. Oh yeah, they run into Kang the Conqueror as well. Let's see how it goes.

Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, this is an MCU movie and it obviously should be viewed on a big screen. How much should we pay for that is the question? Here, we're on the back of two successful movies, even if not primary characters of the MCU. The most successful parts of the movie are the CGI, created characters and general realm. The small package delivers big time with those features. Honestly, if you go to Avatar just for the visuals, Quantamania definitely can can follow suit. We've seen space creatures previously in the MCU but they took it up in imagination for this one.

Next to that, you know from the Ant-man genre, they are going to bring the laughs. Here there are definitely a few good laughs, but unfortunately, some moments meant to be laughs just felt corny. Even worse was the fact that they kept harping on one particular joke until the end and it never really worked from the beginning. To this point, I felt the movie lost a bit of its heart or character. It felt more like another MCU-movie instead of an Ant-Man movie. We miss you Michael Pena and TI! Anyway, that issue might also have been due to wrong edits selected or what I felt was a rushed storyline. The movie overall didn't feel rushed but something about the pacing just made it feel thrown together. Was I unprepared or were they? Who knows, but I kept feeling it. Nevertheless, the cast as a whole were very good, even the annoying daughter who unfortunately we're likely to see more of based on the thought of a Young Avengers movie coming to us in the years to come.

Long story short, Ant-Man and the The Wasp: Quantamania is a solid and visually stunning movie with a rushed set up that makes the plot a bit average. Viewers will be fully entertained either by action or by the corny comedy but won't be truly wowed by the film compared to other movies in the universe. The MCU is falling victim to the Netflix virus, too much content too soon. The movie is enjoyable, but it felt like it was missing some of the previous movies' heart. Obviously, see this on the big screen at any price, but you'll be glad you saved a few bucks with the matinee.
