Aladdin, a kind-hearted street urchin, living in the Arabian city of Agrabah along with his pet monkey Abu, rescues and befriends Princess Jasmine, who has snuck out of the palace to explore, tired of her sheltered life. Meanwhile, the grandAladdin, a kind-hearted street urchin, living in the Arabian city of Agrabah along with his pet monkey Abu, rescues and befriends Princess Jasmine, who has snuck out of the palace to explore, tired of her sheltered life. Meanwhile, the grand vizier, Jafar, schemes to overthrow Jasmine's father as the Sultan with the support of Iago, his sardonic pet parrot. He seeks a magic lamp hidden in the Cave of Wonders that will grant him three wishes. He has been unable to retrieve the lamp himself because only "the diamond in the rough" is allowed to enter the cave.

Jafar discovers Aladdin is the diamond in the rough and when Aladdin sneaks back into the royal palace to talk to Jasmine, he is captured and persuaded by Jafar's deal to help him retrieve the lamp: since only Aladdin can enter the cave alive, he will retrieve the lamp for Jafar and Jafar will make Aladdin rich enough to impress Jasmine. Jafar warns Aladdin not to take anything but the lamp. Inside the cave, Aladdin finds a magic carpet and obtains the lamp, but Abu accidentally causes the cave to collapse after he catches a falling ruby. Aladdin gives the lamp to Jafar, but he double-crosses Aladdin and kicks him and Abu back into the cave, though Abu steals the lamp back. The magic carpet catches Aladdin and saves him from falling to his death.

Trapped in the cave, Aladdin rubs the lamp, unwittingly summoning the omnipotent Genie who lives inside it. The Genie explains that he has the power to grant Aladdin three wishes, with the exceptions of murder, romance, the resurrection of the dead, and more wishes. Aladdin gets the Genie to free them from the cave without using a wish on a technicality: Aladdin didn't rub the lamp as he stated the wish.
Aladdin enters Agrabah as Prince Ali of Ababwa, arriving in an extravagant spectacle. However, Jasmine is unimpressed by his first presentation, including an assortment of gifts and gems. The two later bond when he takes her on a ride on the magic carpet to show her the world she wants to see while the Genie goes out with Dalia. Jasmine realizes who Aladdin is and tricks him into revealing his true identity; however, he convinces her that he is actually a prince and only dressed like a peasant to meet the citizens of Agrabah beforehand.

Jafar discovers Aladdin's identity and, to test his theory, throws Aladdin into the sea, saying if he lives, it will be because he found the lamp, and the Genie saved him. If he dies, he really is a prince and doesn't have the lamp. Abu, now a monkey again, and the carpet arrive with the lamp, but Aladdin loses consciousness before he can rub it. The Genie, impressed by Aladdin's good character, assumes he can alter Genie rules to allow him to save Aladdin, but at the cost of his second wish. At the palace, Jafar tries to turn the others against Aladdin and the Genie with lies, but when Aladdin returns, Jafar is exposed by him and Jasmine, who was also suspicious of Jafar. He is arrested and imprisoned in the dungeon. The Sultan offers Aladdin the position as heir to the throne. Fearing he will lose Jasmine if the truth is revealed, Aladdin decides to reserve the Genie for then and refuses to free him. The Genie tells Aladdin that he was the first master he ever considered a friend and that he's now breaking his heart.
Jafar uses his first wish to become Sultan. When the loyal guards refuse to acknowledge the change, per Jasmine's request, he makes a second wish to become the world's most powerful sorcerer and imprisons the guards and Rajah. He then exposes Aladdin's identity to Jasmine and exiles him and Abu to a frozen wasteland on the other side of the Earth. He threatens to kill the Sultan and Dalia unless Jasmine agrees to marry him. At the wedding ceremony, Aladdin and Abu return, having been rescued by the magic carpet, and Jasmine steals back the lamp. Furious, Jafar transforms Iago into a roc to give chase. Jafar, angered by the Sultan's attempt to stop him, overpowers them and severely damaging the magic carpet in the process. Iago steals the lamp back.

Aladdin stalls by taunting Jafar for being second and powerless to the Genie, thereby tricking him into using his last wish to become the most powerful being in the universe. Due to the vagueness of the wish, the Genie is able to use it to turn Jafar into a genie; chained to the lamp without a master, Jafar is trapped inside, dragging Iago in with him. The Genie banishes them and throws Jafar's lamp to the Cave of Wonders and repairs the magic carpet. Aladdin keeps his promise, using his last wish to free the Genie and allow him to live as a human. The Sultan declares that Jasmine will be the next ruler and tells her that Aladdin is a good person, outlines how worthy he is, and tells her as sultana, she can overturn the law that requires her to marry a prince.

The Genie marries Dalia and leaves to explore the world and start a family with her. Aladdin and Jasmine get married and start a new life as well.

Face it, they are never going to be as good as their original animated counterpart. But by bringing their A game, Disney is the only studio that can deliver this sort of film. Sure, some of the special effects feel a bit wonky, but the return of Alan Menken, along with the writing team behind The Greatest Showman, delivers new materials that are great. The cast is perfect: but the stand out is Naomi Scott as Jasmine, what a star making turn. As per usual, it is a 'remake' so scenes are lifted directly from their animated counterpart, some with limited success. But for the most part, the film works very well. Expand

The best parts are all intact: wonderful songs with a modern arrangement, Bollywoodesque dance numbers, kid friendly themes, and big heart. The disappointing bits will likely not ruin it for adults and certainly will not bother your kids. Marwin Kenzari as Jafar is by far the most glaring problem with this film. Haters will obsess with Will Smith; however, you'll find his interpretation of the genie to be refreshing and hilarious. "Friend Like Me" is just as catchy and the new "Speechless" is brave and inspiring. I cannot imagine a better Jasmine than Naomi Scott. She is truly the standout in this film. Mena Moussad...well, he gets the job done, and that's really what keeps this film from being great - too many "adequate" performances.

The premature criticism of the CGI genie probably took everyone's mind off the rest of the CGI creatures. Rajah is spectacular and believable, the carpet will make you laugh, and Abu...Abu! He's the cutest thing you always imagined. Iago's role is vastly reduced in this reimagining, and that is a crime. But if that's a crime so is the voice performance of typically spot-on Alan Tudyk. I mean, WTF? I almost thought that parrot was a trained macaw until his dialogue. Really sad.

I'm not really sure if these films are targeted as nostalgia candy for adults or if they're supposed to have the same kind of appeal to older kids that the animated films have to children, but even though you'll walk out of Aladdin singing songs and smiling you will probably still be wondering if there's really a point to it. There's obviously nothing wrong with the original, and there's really nothing you can add to it. Except more box office...

Outstanding visuals, a charming story, and good old-fashioned fun. Robin Williams as the Genie is a tough act to follow, but Will Smith added his own unique touches to the role.

I was really impressed with Will Smith and his version of the Genie, he made it a fun and exciting adaption to the character without trying too hard to replace Robin Williams. Its a pleasant surprise, considering the unjust and unfair backlash he received when he was asked to be apart of the movie. All the actors were really good, Will Smith as Genie fully delivers and they capture everything that made the original that good. Of cause they made changes and modernized the story a bit. It is mostly fitting and does not harm the movie experience. Lets start at the beginning. Aladdin’s tale is from “One thousand and One night” where Scheherazade has to tell her husband the king stories to avoid being executed (He is not a bad man but life has hit him so hard it crippled him inside). Disney adapted the story to a really great animated movie in 1992. I watched it in cinema and it is one of my favorite Disney movies. Because of this any remake has a hard stance to compete. Like before it is the story of the orphaned thief aka street urchin Aladdin. He has a hearth of gold or like they say he is an uncut diamond. One day he meets an unknown seeming rich woman and the two have a nice day. Meanwhile grand vizier Jafar is plotting to gain more power. I stop here to avoid spoilers. The story sticks close to the original and its classical heroes journey. While not as good as the original it is still really good and I was entertained from start to finish. The actors were well chosen and improved the movie. Lets start with Will Smith as Genie because I was skeptical here. He positively surprised me and was amazing. He did Robin Williams justice. It ends not there as Mena Massoud is a fantastic Aladdin, Marwin Kenzari a remarkable villain as Jafar (but should be used more) and Naomi Scott as Jasmine was incredible good. There are however a few weaknesses. The Sultan played by Navid Negahban is a bit pale as character and Iago is far weaker (More realistic). I fully enjoyed the new character Dalia played by Nasim Pedrad and her story with the Genie. Now something surprising. I am mostly a person who does not like the singing in Disney movies that much. Here I like it a lot and only skipped a few times. I praise this. The settings, costumes and special effects look great. They convinced me in a way that I never doubted the movie. Overall this is a really good movie and I give an 8/10. While not as good as the original it has its own merits and I enjoyed it. Expand

The main characters performance, Aladdin and Jasmine, captured the escence of the originals . As for the genie, don't expect him to be the Robin Williams version of course, it is just not possible. Yet, Will Smith as the genie turned out to be realy good, adding his prince of belair persona to the character and the songs, which to my surprise worked pretty well. The real problem with the movie is Jafar, which is the only reason why I don't give it a 10. He lacks the evil, threatening villain traits of the original, that creppy lust he had for Jasmine and his hilarious relation with Iago. At least, the casting crew should have chosen a much taller, older and not hot actor. Still, watching the movie is a great experience, if you liked the original you'll enjoy the live-action version. The first act is quite slow and boring, even improbable when they are chasing Aladdin at the beginning, you do not believe the world they want to put you through the eyes and he's juggling and absurd jumps (I give it a 6), but then when the Genius appears the movie rises. Will Smith is the best of the film, Mena Massoud (Aladdin) also does his performance very well, you believe in everything, Naomi Scott (Jasmine) does her part. Those last 2 acts are great (I give it a 9). The scenes don't happen in the same order as the animated one, besides there are 38 more minutes of songs and new scenes. You don't feel that Guy Ritchie is the director, it could have been any other. This story is Arabic but they changed it and it feels a bit Indian, more of Bollywood. The ending just surprised me, it's not the same one when Aladdin sets the Genie free. You have to go watch it Noowww. Expand

A lot of it feels like a reboot but plenty of the original stuff is still in there. The pacing though is completely off. The moment the movie starts the market it already feels like it has skipped something. Because it did - as the original didn't do it.

Some scenes were solved a bit better than the original but even if it was not important for the narration: What in the world were they thinking getting rid of Cobra Jafar? I think they tried to pay hommage to it because by the end they showed a living snake transforming into Jafar's new staff so that was kinda cool but you cannot just skip the final battle. The chase scene was pointless apart from "let's show them some action". How exactly did that scene work? Jafar already was established to be able to teleport people around making him an absolute idiot in that scene for not doing it. There really was no good reason to skip something as iconic as Cobra Jafar. I do mind that he was not an old menacing man but no Cobra Jafar was even worse, the actor was fine even if old Jafar would have been alot better for me. Jasmin was great even if her story was expanded and Aladdin and Genie were also fine. There was a really embarassing scene in the movie that was like "sort of different" in the old movie when Aladdinw as goofing around having problems to hold up his charade and this embarassing scene was kinda funny.

Still I would have done this movie very differently. And if they do Jafar's Return I hope they bring in Cobra Jafar for that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not going to lie, I was nervous but at the same time anxious. The first musical number "Arabian Nights" made my hair stand on end. The film is enjoyed from beginning to end, with good musical numbers, magic and the best performances by Will Smith, Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud, they have very good chemistry. Everything that the trailers see is different on the big screen, with respect to the genius CGI and the VFX, visually stuning. Enjoy the character of Dalia, funny, sympathetic. With respect to the new song "Speechless" I thought it was a good addition in this live action. Naomi's performance touches the heart of anyone and it really comes. "Prince Ali" different, colorful, splendid. Undoubtedly, until now one of the best live action. The only bad thing I have to say is Jafar, they do not take advantage of the character and downplay it. Is it threatening? Yes, but not as much as in the original. Expand

He does a lively job (helped by lots of special effects), but the inevitable comparisons to the original Robin Williams will find him falling short. Director Guy Ritchie has included some of his signature chases, but without much clever action. The visuals are colorful, there are plenty of special effect and the songs are tuneful, but the finished product lacks magic. Despite some early slow going, young audiences should be entertained. Unfortunately does not live up to the original animated classic.

The first half of the movie felt unnecessary and was pretty slow paced. Movie did not get better until Genie (Will Smith) appeared. Genie played a bigger role than in the original film and felt like saved the 2nd half of this live action remake. The additional storyline changes were welcome but the acting of the main character felt a bit weak and overshadowed by the characters of Genie and Jasmine sadly. Still worth watching through Disney+

One of the better live adaptations. Still, some of the choices the filmmakers made for this film were odd - especially choosing to change some minor plot points that lessen Aladdin's cleverness.

The camerawork also contained some baffling choices. Nearly every action and dance sequence looks like it was noticeably sped up, which made them jarring to watch. I also can't understand why they refuse to cast people who can actually sing well (excluding Jasmine, who's voice is exceptional). Aladdin and the Genie largely speak-sing their way through the musical numbers.

I think it had a very slow start, I got a little bored but when Will Smith's Genie came on the screen, I knew I was in for an amazing flik. Jasmine's voice is so pure and powerful but her strength comes in her vulnerability. She takes some of the issues of that time head on with perfect musical scenes. The Genie wasn't a vocal powerhouse and neither was Aladdin but their voices were good enough to get a pass. It was a very long movie (2 hours) but it still ended very quickly. This movie surely isn't perfect but with charming music and great acting, it's worth your time. Expand

It's not perfect, but out of all the Disney remakes this one is my favorite. Good balance of old and new ideas. Cool choreography, good old music, genie is stealing the show (as he should). I would recommend this movie.

The only good one is what they did with Jasmine. Naomi Scott was incredible as Jasmine and played her to absolute perfection to her abilities. But the thing I want to talk about is what they did with her character. Instead of keeping her the same as her animated counterpart they changed her so she better fit a strong female that should be seen more in film. She also had the best song in the entire film and I hope it gets nominated for best original song for the Oscars. The set design in this film was outstanding and just looked spectacular on the big screen. All of the sets looked like it was taken right out of the animated film and just increased. The costume design was also really good. Even though we already knew who the common people were and the royalty it still showed the status difference. Although I did hate how they made Aladdin have clean clothes. Now, the original songs are classics and everybody knows them and I hate how they changed some of the lyrics mainly with “One Jump Ahead” and “Prince Ali”. I do understand why they changed them to help fit the story but with “Prince Ali” one of the lyrics was changed and it pissed me off. I talked about how Naomi Scott is great as Jasmine but for the rest of the actors, it wasn’t the same. Now, I’m not going to hate on Will Smith as the Genie because he did accept a tough challenge of taking over for the legendary Robin Williams and he did make it his own but my main probably was with Mena Massoud and Marwan Kenzari, who plays Jafar. Mena Massoud was a decent Aladdin what he lacked was the singing ability but I will give him credit for putting himself out there. But, Marwan Kenzari just didn’t do it for me as Jafar. He pretty much was a boring villain who was two-dimensional. There were two big scene changes that just bugged me all because it affected the story and those were the opening scene and the ending. The opening made no sense because it was out of order and the ending just was a completely different ending that sucked. This film does keep the original message of always be yourself but it messes it up with one thing. Also, the CGI in this film is just bad. Nothing CGI really looked realistic in any way. There were lots of scenes in this film that awkwardly ended and transitioned to the next with no proper connection. I’m not sure if it was just me but the humour in this film was kinda weak. The score by Alan Menken was good at least. In the end, Aladdin (2019) doesn’t have the same magic as the original animated one and shouldn’t have been touched at all. It’s a good kids film but for people who grew up with the original, it’s not that good. Expand

The genie, played by Will Smith, was very funny in it's own unique way. Songs are revised versions of the original ones, but are still enjoyable to listen to. Jasmine and Aladdin are well played by their respective actors, but the other characters have become extra's to their original versions. Jafar isn't nearly as terrifying and dangerous as the original 1992 version, and has a strange fetish with invading neighbouring countries for no other reason than territorial expansion.

The realism of visuals suffer due to the sets being made out of CGI for the most part, looking worse than some of the original Ice Age movies. Whoever said that practical effects are unnecessary or pointless should get his head out of his/her ass, and this movie is the perfect example of why too much CGI will hurt your movie.

The final act is unfortunately rather underwhelming. If you were looking forward to the scene where Jafar turns into a massive Snake, you'll be disappointed. Instead, Jago turns into a bigger bird... Great. What a missed oppertunity.

Also, the movie leans strongly to Social Justice Warriors propoganda, as Jasmine becomes the next ruler of a Muslim ruled state... yes i'm not making this up. This comes through especially when Jasmine sings a song for a second time, braking the immersion of a particular scene. I don't mind woman empowerment in media, but implement it in a creative and believable way. All in all, this was a good movie. It was funny and amusing. I give this movie a 7/10.

What i like was the fantastic look of the Movie, i really enjoyed the Musical parts and the Main cast was really solid. Will smith as Genie did a good job without trying to recreate the Legendary Robin Williams Voice acting. But the Casting choice for Jafar was god Awful. Also The Movie was a little to long. In the First and Second ACTS i was on board but the 3rd ACT kind of lost me.
And being a Movie directed by Guy Ritchie i kind of missed his Style. There isn't anything what makes you realize "Yep, this man directed this Movie". I personally find this was a missed chance to let this Movie stand on his own two feets. A solid Movie but i wouldn't watch it a thousand times like the Original.

Expand

It mostly follows the same plot as the original Disney movie, but they tweaked the story a little to create more depth for the new actors and thereby also making the movie a bit more original and more fun to watch. They adapted the genie role very well to fit Will Smiths acting, thereby giving him a podium to create his own version of the genie, which worked out very well. Disney also paid more attention to equality and the impact of the female actors, though the new songs created to support the female characters didn't really work out for me.
Conclusion: a real life version of the original Aladdin; very much the same, a little tweaked, and thereby fun to watch.

Aladdin, a whole new world?

Today, I was able to take a stroll down memory lane and let nostalgia be my guide. Aladdin is a Disney giant that took its first magic carpet ride in 1992. Today, Aladdin knocked the dust off of the old magic carpet once again. This movie stars newcomers Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine. Hollywood giant, Will Smith plays the Genie. So let’s see how the reboot rebounded.

First, let’s get the cat out of the bag. This reboot hits all of the classic notes from the animated movie. However, the movie updates the story to feature current sociocultural climate notes and additional songs. This isn’t just a live version carbon copy, and I’m glad Disney made changes.

Both Mena and Naomi, do a very good job in their roles as Aladdin and Jasmine. They both display some good singing ability and acting skills. And, of course Raja and Abu steal your hearts in this movie. Will Smith, had the hardest job of all by having to live up to Robin William’s original portrayal, but he does a very good job as well. Will gives the audience a funny, high energy, charming, and current version of the Genie. As for Jafar and the Sultan, they also do a good job, but honestly the Sultan isn’t really featured, and Jafar needed to be more devilish.

This was a good movie, but the additional parts and songs in the movie did not add much to it. People who enjoyed this movie growing up will say just “give me the original movie,” and move on. But those who are not familiar with the original movie, will enjoy the magic ride that Disney took us on.

Long story short, families with kids should definitely go see this movie in the theaters, whether at night time or matinee. Everyone else, especially those who loved the movie as a kid decades ago, I would say you can see the matinee. But, honestly you should wait for Redbox or a streaming service rental for $4.99 to see a whole new world.

With a mixed track record, many were unsure of what to expect from the movie. However, Ritchie's Aladdin manages to capture the charm and energy of the original animated film while also adding new elements to the story.

One of the biggest concerns for audiences was Will Smith's portrayal of the Genie, a character made iconic by Robin Williams' portrayal in the original film. However, Smith's performance is solid, with the right mix of restraint and larger-than-life energy. Meanwhile, Mena Massoud's Aladdin and Naomi Scott's Jasmine both shine in their roles, with Scott particularly impressing with her strong vocal range. On the other hand, Marwan Kenzari's Jafar is less intimidating than in previous versions of the story.

The film's visuals are breathtaking, with the exotic city of Agrabah and the vibrant costumes and choreography standing out. The original songs from the animated film are given a modern twist, but the new numbers fail to leave a lasting impression. The extra storyline added to the film feels unnecessary and dragged the pacing down.

Overall, while not without its flaws, "Aladdin" is a fun and entertaining film that manages to capture the spirit of the original while adding new elements. The lead performances and visuals are particularly strong. However, the film would have benefited from more rigorous editing and more memorable new songs.

The difference between this and, say, this year's "Dumbo" for example, is the sheer amount of iconography to transcribe from animation to live-action in either film. But that's about it. The musical numbers for the most part are good minus a few poor decisions for where to put them. Will Smith does great as a genie in his own right, and the actors for Aladdin and Jasmine were well chosen. I biggest gripe with the movie is Jafar. In the cartoon movie, Jafar is a vizier who is driven by not only his own selfish desire for power, but also by the infuriating awareness that he is under the command off an incompetent leader. I'm sure this at the very least was something that many could relate to, as Jafar was clearly capable of leading, and extremely effective in his ways, albeit they were evil. But in this new movie, the Sultan is not an incompetent buffoon, and Jafar is not an older magistrate who exudes an aura of danger, knowledge, and evil. The sultan is quite capable, and Jafar is more akin to a young statesman who desperately wishes to rise above his station. In the end this does not feel like Jafar because what he is stated to be, and what he is shown and written as do not match.

The movie is ok, but don't get your hopes up too much.

Similar to Beauty and the Beast, the film takes no real risks in presenting the same story you have already seen before. The casting is for the most part excellent, and all the big names put in solid performances, especially Smith, who doesn’t try to fill the massive shoes left by Williams, but rather puts on his own and wears them proudly, the Genie character is perhaps the boldest move the movie makes and is the main thing that could be argued as ‘not a remake’.

The musical numbers sound good (as you would expect) and the set pieces and costume work are both excellent.

The movie just lacks any real reason to invest, the plot is identical to before, though arguably worse as the pacing is awful at times as characters switch up opinions or traits on the flick of a switch just to progress the story. The musical numbers sometimes fail to move the story forward, which means shortcuts are taken outside of these numbers in order to make up for lost time, which harshly compromises the pacing and certain points of internal logic. For me personally it seriously detached me from the film and hurt my enjoyment. Though I don’t wish to mark it too severely as I appreciate that it was a personal response.

I can see why this movie is making so much money, and it will continue to do so, and it will sell well again when released to the home market, it is an enjoyable flick that families can easily digest and enjoy, even if it isn’t doing anything above and beyond.

6/10, a perfectly competent and inoffensive movie, if you like Disney, or Aladdin, you’ll enjoy it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Weird pacing, a weird new pop song inside a musical that should've been left for the end credits perhaps, an okay Will Genie, strong main characters, especially Naomi Scott who has a ton of potential for starring roles... oh and a weird soulless parrot robot. Although i almost started a ranting list here, i do have to say most of the time the movie had this good vibe, and it was enjoyable, but has its problems. Expand

Another appropriate title for this would be "Hitch & Aladdin". The spiritual successor to Hitch,AT LAST! :-D

There are 3 ways I can thank this movie for:
It made me forget the existence of a scary Jar-Jar Binks looking CG Elephant
It made Guy Ritchie think his last movie sucked hardcore so that he could've tried to make this movie look good
Again,the spiritual successor to Hitch
Because that's what this new version of Aladdin is: An unnecessary big spectacle that tries his best to be somewhat of an actual movie with things in it.
Unlike Dumbo,go see it in IMAX for the effects bonanza and pretty colors. (do it quick before Godzilla blows up your IMAX Auditorium) Trust me this time, you'll see more than a boring, lifeless Circus Tent.
The actors are really trying to sell their performances, right down to Will Smith, which is,obviously, the best part of the movie. He doesn't try to be Robin Williams by any means,to the point to where it doesn't matter if you say he or him was better, because all that matters is that,at least they're having fun playing the character. Guy Ritchie knows how to direct action sequences and (surprisingly) dance numbers,so that kept me engaged to point... (too bad there wasn't the director's signature Snorricam shot). I love this new version of the score by Alan Menken. At one point,it becomes a Hans Zimmer score, and at another,it's Rio by John Powell. "Friend Like Me" and "Prince Ali" are 10/10 scenes that are almost astounding to be in a movie of this caliber, but in a movie like this, the musical scenes can be hit-or-miss. I didn’t get what was happening in “A Whole New World” besides ‘Oh,they’re singing in a magical carpet!’,and the first part of Speechless (one of the few new songs added in the movie) was good...Until it sinks its teeth into a point where it’s no going back.
When “Speechless” gets played in full, not only is it worse than either Peter Parker dancing in Spider-Man 3 or Shia LaBeouf swinging with lots of CG Monkeys in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, but it’s also so laughably bad,you can call that scene “The scene where Jasmine becomes more powerful than Thanos and The Flash (or Quicksilver) thrown togheter”.
That alone made Captain Marvel look like a job well done in just 24 Hours.
The opening of the movie (until it gets to the Cave Of Wonders halfway through) is just as quick as the entirety of The LEGO Movie,it sets a really strange bar for the movie (I mean...go figure, the movie has Dan Lin as one of the producers).
I will never forgive the writers for making Jafar look like one off the best MCU Phase 1 Villains, where, unless it’s Loki, they’re all SO. DAMN. FORGETTABLE.
And some of the new stuff I could’ve easily cut out, because, with that,it feels like if we were in an alternate universe, and Batman V Superman was so good we didn’t need an Ultimate Cut to explain the little details.
But again, thanks Aladdin for making me forget about a horrific elephant. There’s a much better Elephant in here than in Dumbo that families will enjoy. Out of all the Disney live-action redos, this is the Venom of these kind of movies. So many problems in the movie, but I’ll be damned if I had a good time seeing it.

It is very fun to watch. The singing, acting, and visuals are great. However the plot has a lot of holes (e.g The wishes) and the blandness of Jafar and Jafar as a whole put this from good to slightly above average. Enjoyment wise it is a solid 8/10.

The movie is colorful, vibrant and upbeat, a lot of fun for the family to watch. The CGI could've been better at times, but the biggest negative was Jafer, this role was extremely poorly cast, the actor had no presence on screen, he was not menacing at all, was too young for the character, a puny weak voice, worst of all, you don't feel threaten by him at all. I truly would've liked to have given this movie a much higher green score but Jafer was a massive let down. Expand

It's Aladdin yes. Was the live-action adaptation necessary? Well that's a whole different matter, pretty much like with every live-action adaptation Disney has made in recent years, yet here we are.

Personally I must say that I didn't dislike it. After all, it's basically the same story of the animated classic and on that side it has no problems, however, there's nothing extraordinary or something that goes beyond being just a different version of this well-known story.

Maybe kids and young people who haven't seen the animated film will find this version more striking but in general terms here there's nothing that Disney has not done previously in these sort of adaptations.

The quality is undeniable. The sets are awesome. The clothes are great. The musical numbers are also pretty colorful and nice.
The young protagonists work sufficiently good and they have chemistry and surprisingly Will Smith doesn't suck in a role in which he could have failed enormously.

Guy Ritchie delivers a fine film but only that. Is it enough? Yes, he didn't **** up and we know he could have done it. But as I said there's no outstanding element.

Aladdin it's a film that deserves your time, it might win your attention. After all it's still a show of entertainment but I definitely believe that the rest will depend of your own expectations and the respective enjoyment you might get out of it.

There’s an upcoming Disney live-action movie as well and that would be The Lion King (2019). Most live-action Disney movies can never get better than the animated one and Aladdin’s one of them. First, the acting is kinda weak and bland. We had Mena Massoud as Aladdin. I know he tried really hard to be like Aladdin in the 1992 animated version. There’s also Will Smith as the Genie which was criticized online to be too blue but I didn’t think like that. In my opinion, he was pretty okay and funny as well, even though he couldn’t smash the role like Robin Williams. However, Naomi Scott stole the show as Princess Jasmine. She smashed it for a bit and I was kinda impressed as I said the performances were weak. Though the WORST in here was Jafar played by Marwan Kenzari. His voice was young and friendly, he wasn’t that evil but to be quite idotic and crazy and I had no favour for his roles. Yes, the movie was really entertaining with awesome magical special effects, Will Smith’s humor and more but each of those had problems as well as the musical. They didn’t lack any, but they made the musical more boring, more forgettable and less exciting. The music got lower and the creators got lazier and lazier. They also made the final battle worse. It didn’t take long and it was totally bright. Brightness here and there. Comparing to the animated version, it was totally dark and that’s how the final battle should be. Instead in this live-action, it didn’t take that long and people in Agrabah were like “look at my tricks here, see what I can do!”. They didn’t even pay attention that Jafar’s the ruler, not the Sultan. When Jafar turned into a Genie, he looked like a moron more than a powerful being. His face and hair, it was horrible. They also had new stuffs added to the movie. They were weird and annoying, also new characters as well like Dalia played by Nasim Pedrad. I didn’t see that character in animated Aladdin. She was okay to be added to make the movie funnier but the other new things are unnecessary. It made the movie boring and also took a bit long time and it was 128 minutes comparing to the 92 minutes of the animated Aladdin and it was almost perfect and almost the best Disney animated movie ever made. Personally the movie was kinda disappointing and didn’t live up to the hype. I could barely praise many parts of Aladdin. I bet Disney fans and other types of audiences would like it but Aladdin surely deserved to be mixed from me. It’s just a bland live-action like others. This is definitely not a whole new world! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Movie Was pretty good. Most of the actors were fine and despite what i had feared Will Smith is an amazing genie and probably the best actor in the entire movie. it recreates jokes and creates new ones giving you a joy an old Disney was. while most of the new songs were a hit and miss it was a blast listening to recreations of the original songs. My only 2 complaints are 1). actor casted as Jafar. Not saying he's a bad actor but i believe he would would fit as any other character but personally he didn't feel like a Jafar. Jafar in the original is man known for his hypnotic charm as he lures you in, he was a man you wouldn't trust but at the same time you want to hear him out. The actor whole personality as Jafar was trying to be evil and massively lacked that hypnotic charm which makes a Jafar Character not Jafar at all. i'm sure the actor will star in a big role and be famous for that but any character would've been better than casting him has the serpent sorcerer we love. my second complaint is all the cultures they tried to serve on one main dish. This is Arabia not Punjabi, Desi, Persian, Egyptian, ect ect. It felt like they were trying to cater to a bunch of different cultures which ruined the cultural fun and made everything, including the dancing, feel very very stereotypical. i think the movie would've been more fun culturally if it focused on Arabian culture, some of Egyptian culture, And Some of India culture (i say this as Jasmines mother is an Indian Kingdom if you were to Google it) and would be a fun things people would learn about the culture as a whole. The cultural thing i point out however is because i am Islamic and i say this as it would be awesome for people to see true Arabian culture rather than the stereotypical culture most of the world sees in the south Asian, north east Africa it thinks of. Overall i did enjoy Aladdin other than the culture. Expand

Some things are best left animated.

It lacks the energy and magic from the 1992 movie, which is strange to me because with Guy Ritchie directing I expected some chaos - just watch 'King Arthur: Legend of the Sword' or any other movie he directed. Also, Jafar sucks in this movie and it isn't Marwan Kenzari, just painfully miscast. The visual effects...yeah, lets not go there.

However, it is entertaining enough to sit through. Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine really makes the role her own, especially during the musical segments. Mena Massoud is fine as Aladdin, but at times I felt like he tried to duplicate the animated version a little bit too much.

Will Smith as the Genie is easily the best part of the movie. Despite not having a solid singing voice, but Smith's charm shines through and most importantly made the character his own. It's funny that the biggest complaint that everyone had turned out to be the best part of the movie, all because of an unfinished effect.

'Aladdin' seems like a check-list, in which scenes only happen because they happened in the 1992 original. Directed by Guy Ritchie ('Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' and 'Snatch'), the film obviously centers around our title character (played by Mena Massoud, who does look and sound like his animated counterpart) running around and stealing from the marketplace of Agrabah along with his monkey Abu. He then meets a beautiful young woman, Jasmine (Naomi Scott), but is unaware that she is a princess. They seem to get along and almost fall in love as she finds his warm and kind charming personality somewhat rare and unique, as well as how he helped her get out of trouble. Meanwhile our main villain, Jafar (Marwan Kenzari), is after a powerful lamp, but needs a "Diamond in the Rough", and that comes from Aladdin, so he recruits him to voluntarily enter the cave of wonders and retrieve the magical possession. Aladdin, unfortunately, doesn't escape but manages to keep the lamp, and discovers that there is an all powerful Genie (A blue Will Smith) who can grant him three wishes. The two form a friendship and come up with ways for Aladdin to impress Jasmine, as well as the Genie's promise for his freedom. As I said above, the film feels like a check-list (only if you have seen the original), scenes are sometimes structured differently in an attempt to make it feel more original, and a new song is also added to make it different. The only major issue here is the CGI. While Smith does not repeat or do an imitation of what the late Robin Williams did back in 1992, and incorporates his own charisma to the role, the CGI to make Smith look like a person-like puff of blue smoke is visually jarring, as he looks inconsistent to the environment which surrounds him. For example, when he's talking to Aladdin, the light shining on one side of Aladdin's face is shining on the other side of the Genie's. It's almost as if Smith shot his scenes separately to the other actors from time to time. Plus, his movement can be a little frightening from time to time. Overall, the acting is solid, Naomi Scott is the biggest surprise from this film, and I guess it is faithful (yet massively unoriginal) to the animated classic. I am unsure as to why Disney thought Guy Ricthie (again, the director of 'Snatch') was the appropriate choice for this project. Next thing you know, they'll announce Quentin Tarantino to helm the live-action remake of 'The Little Mermaid' (1989). Expand
