Just awful. I gave it a chance. The kids that play Aladdin and Jasmine were actually decent but the rest is just bad. Just watch the original

I tried to like this movie but I couldn't. Disney Live Action remakes just aren't good. All the Live Action remakes are only made for money. They bank too heavily on nostalgia which I don’t like. They bank too heavily on nostalgia which I don’t like. I feel that this movie should not have been made. I feel the same way about any Live Action remake that has been released or is coming out. Here are some positives. Most of the cast does a good job. Will Smith isn’t trying to beat out Robin Williams as the Genie but still does a great job. The soundtrack is decent. It’s still incredibly catchy but not as catchy as the original. The only song I feel that is better in this movie is Arabian Nights. All the other songs are good but not as outstanding as the original. Unfortunately, the negatives outweigh the positives. The pacing of this film is way off. It feels rushed at certain points and the end of the film starts to drag and it takes too long. It also doesn’t help that this film is 38 minutes longer than the original. Marwan Kenzari is a decent actor but he didn’t do a good job in this film. In my opinion, he didn’t know what to do with the character. Jafar never felt like a major threat during the film which is a problem because he is the main villain. There were some changes that were made to the story but I felt they really didn’t work for me. Jasmine’s added character arc was a big meh for me. It felt a little out of place within the narrative. The new songs they added were meh for me. They aren’t as memorable as the other songs in the film. The effects on the Genie are still as bad as they were in the trailer which was very distracting. The film is very brightly lit which makes it feel like a Disney Channel Original Film. There are also some slow motion scenes that come out of nowhere and make no sense at all. Overall, Aladdin may have a half decent score but fails to capture the magic of the original film. I give Aladdin a 2/10.… Expand

Ok so I just watched this on disney plus and oh boy. This is a terrible remake. All acting and singing is horrible minus will smith who I was the most worried about. Plot was ripped apart and terrible, special effects corny. Why did AladdinOk so I just watched this on disney plus and oh boy. This is a terrible remake. Oh my, this movie is so incredibly bad.

I love Will Smith, but this production has no charm, the musical numbers are really poorly executed - really poorly executed, as if the actors couldn't sing and could not be bothered to use autotune.Oh my, this movie is so incredibly bad.

This wouldn't be an issue, but of course this is a musical, so the lack of musicality kills it.

All of the actors look like they're just dialing in their performances.

At least this disaster of a movie got me to rewatch the original Aladdin, which was a really pleasant surprise by contrast, with emotive songs and great performances by the cartoon characters animators.

My conclusion is that Disney has no real quality control going on for it's projects, which is a shame given how much money went into the live action version.… Expand

The film was at a 8/10 rating until the overt feminist changes that make the film go downhill quickly. Great movie, new age Disney crash ending. Mary Sue coming out of nowhere.

Let’s just say with out Will Smith and the dance scenes, I would have given this movie a 1. Over all disappointed, Disney could have done so much better with their budget

What killed it for me was the acting, fell super flat. Let’s talk about the cast:
1.Worst was Jafar= buzz kill, poor acting and dint look the part. Awful over all, his voice and facial gestures were not mean at all, actors voice is rather soft.
2. Sultan= Hollywood has to stop casting Persians as Arabs, their accent is different. Sultan is played by a Persian actor with Persian accent, but Sultan is not from Persia! Why not hire English actors that can do the Arab English accent. 3. Dalia, wasn’t funny, didn’t believe her acting. Was just an unnecessary filler. 4. Aladdin= looked identical to the cartoon for me, but acting was bad. Flat. Just not believable. They needed to work on his acting skills

And the ending was poor and they got lazy, what happened to Jafar turning into a Cobra??? With all that budget why did they cut out this important scene? Disney shoved the Female power thing down our throats again at end...so unnecessary.

I gave it a 3 since Will Smith was the highlight of the movie. If you are a child or teenager, you may enjoy the movie.

They should have left this class alone, Hollywood instantly is trying to re do classics and make it social correct to match the current state of politics, it doesn’t work. Unnecessary and forced. I’m sick of it… Expand

Once again Disney proves that there is no point in remaking their classic movies. They always turn out worse! and this is no exception. The few changes that are made to make this version stand out against the original mostly all fall flat.

This movie made me mad. From the awful CGI, to the terrible auto-tuned songs, to the bland and life-less re-hashing of the original, this movie is pointless! The fact that this made so much money is shameful!

…beneath the Magic Kingdom. That’s right, a mouse king ruler who cares more about entertainment than moral direction of those beneath himself. What’s the problem with having such a king? He makes the public believe an attractive person without artistic talent has such a thing. Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine succumbs to that very curse as she gives some incredibly painful acting. Her forgetful new song, “Speechless,” adds nothing of narrative importance, proving a big fat fail in this cinematic product’s attempt at further expanding Cinderella’s castle into homes worldwide. The magic winds up absent all throughout, it’s not found in the single-shot-take that opens the feature by sweeping through a street, palace, and cave, and it’s especially not found in the “A Whole New World” number where Aladdin and Jasmine just sit and sing and go nowhere. There’s no magic because there’s no heat in any human conflict to suggest anyone there is even awake and alert.

Ironically most of the energy comes from cases of Will Smith’s rapping that is weirdly out of place even by Genie standards. This whole movie in fact feels like a package of 90’s nostalgia with all the original songs having the rock band remix treatment as if listening to Disney Mania 5. That package includes watching the actors standing awkwardly in moments that ironically are when Will Smith is his funniest… because everyone else is comparatively worse. The Lion King remake will most likely resort to similar artistic exterior to overshadow the interior. It’s honestly insulting to know that this film’s focus on looking pretty goes against the theme of Beauty and the Beast: beauty is found within. If somebody in the production crew lived by that, then this music video for nostalgic millennials would have remembered the satirical tongue-in-cheek humor the original animated feature wasn’t afraid to exploit.

Wish #2: No racism.

Even good desires, particularly money, can turn evil when it’s wanted for the wrong reasons. In this case, trying to fight hatred between two ethnicities could lead to forced political correctness that results in accidental racism. In this location of purely Arab people, one Caucasian is cast to play a Scottish man speaking with a horrible, HORRIBLE accent—the opposite of progressive. The whole cast in fact seems aware about their amplified stereotypes, Will Smith in particular clearly seems aware of the contradictory dialogue. One minute, he tells Aladdin to be genuine, then the very next, he encourages the opposite by making him dance against his will.

The treatment of gender is fatally flawed too, even a female-directed motion picture starring an almost completely male cast, The Hurt Locker, empowers women better than this does. Jasmine is way less brave than her animated counterpart; she won’t even jump across rooftops without a street rat’s help. It’s invigorating how these cultural stereotypes do more harm than good at Hollywood diversity, and director Guy Ritchie deserves a lot of the blame. He decides to exploit impressive screen spectacle with the Cave of Wonders and the “Friend Like Me” musical number, but because no tonal consistency is established, the cast never does anything besides let their hands dangle.

Wish #3: Inaccessibility to weapons.

You may think, “What family entertainment goes against its own violence prevention initiative?” Simple. Mena Massoud as Aladdin hurts your eyes to watch his survival of each laborious production day; he hurts your ears to hear him talk-sing while reading off a cue-card. Your tongue will hurt from tasting the bad dance choreography; your brain will hurt from the stupid adaptation mistakes (the “Prince Ali” number lyrics mention “White” Persian monkeys, yet the monkeys seen are NOT white). Afterward, you come home aching over the whole face, pain that will transfer into your soul.

The torture then continues when a dull end credits dance number finalizes that nobody there had fun at any point of production. Guy Ritchie’s vomit-colored peaceful efforts drops a bomb with a big “US” written on the side for Saudi Arabia. Then, when the bomb explodes on land, it makes their cities look just as ugly as Aladdin makes it all look. While that country is not a terrorist nation like the news think, it’s also not a mouse-guarded honeypot lamp free for kids to go rub.… Expand

This movie is really bad! It has no reason to exist! Everything it does well was done better in the original and everything that the original did well is done much worse here! Everything it does well was done better in the original and everything that the original did well is done much worse here! Now, when you think of the original Aladdin, what comes to mind? Probably the incredibly rich and colourful and energetic animation with great comedic timing and Robin Williams’ incredible performance as the Genie. Well, obviously this new movie isn’t animated so you don’t have any of that and Robin Williams is dead so you don’t have that either. Instead of the beautifully-crafted hand-drawn animation, you get very flat-looking and washed-out environments and some very crappy CGI. Instead of Robin Williams improvising most of his lines and talented Disney animators giving life to his words, you get Will Smith being slightly charming and slightly comedic, which is pretty much every Will Smith performance for the past 20+ years! Also, instead of Looney Tunes-style visual gags and slapstick, you get cringe humour. Not cringy humour, cringe humour, which is an actual style of comedy most often found in sitcoms like The Office. Cringe humour can be great if done well, but it can fail spectacularly if not done well. This was not done well. It wasn’t very funny. It was just awkward. What is even the point of watching this if the best parts of the original movie that arguably are the reason it is so beloved do not translate at all? Okay, so the comedy doesn’t work, but how are the other actors? Well, the rest of the performances were honestly pretty bad, especially the guy playing Jafar. He is not threatening in the slightest! He just sounds monotone and bored. He just wasn’t the right actor for the role. His facial features are too soft and his voice is too high-pitched. Not great villain material if not written correctly. The guy playing Aladdin just felt awkward, which kind of works sometimes for when he’s turned into a prince, but his performance still feels awkward even in the scenes where he’s supposed to be in his home element. He’s supposed to be kind of a Han Solo type, he’s a thief but he has a heart of gold, but in this he feels more like Scott Pilgrim. The girl playing Jasmine was probably the best actor in the movie, either her or Alan Tudyk as Iago, but in practically every scene she’s in without Aladdin she’s accompanied by her sidekick character. Not the tiger, a new character, her handmaiden. She was also very awkward and not very funny. I really don’t understand the point of this character being in the movie at all. Okay, so the performances leave a lot to be desired, but how is the music? Also terrible! The new orchestrations of the old songs are made more modern and hip for the kids (With some rapping and beatboxing. No, really.) and the only person who can sing in the whole darn cast is the girl who plays Jasmine! Speaking of Jasmine, she also has a new song of her own which she sings really well, but the lyrics are not very good and it seems very out of place with the rest of the songs. It doesn’t sound like Aladdin, it sounds more like The Greatest Showman. Probably because it was written by the same people who did The Greatest Showman. Now, I haven’t seen that movie, but I am not a fan of the songs from that film. They sound way too poppy and not enough like musical theatre for my liking and the lyrics I think are just awful, but at least all the songs were like that in The Greatest Showman. In Aladdin, it just does not fit at all. The effects during the song were cool though, or at least they would be if I didn’t see literally the exact same thing before in Into the Woods and Avengers: Infinity War. That’s most of this movie’s problems summed up. No matter what it does, there is always another movie that does it better. Overall, this movie is an embarrassment. It’s a complete and utter waste of time. It’s pointless! Just stay home and watch the original! It’s shorter (Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the remake is over 2 hours long! The original is under 90 minutes! It’s full of padding. It even ends with a big dance party scene like a DreamWorks movie. And it shows Aladdin and Jasmine getting married! What the heck?? They aren’t supposed get married until the third movie, after a direct-to-VHS sequel and a TV series!) and it is better in every way! It’s colourful, energetic, hilarious and a ton of fun! This is boring, tired, unfunny and frustrating. Do not watch this movie! Stop supporting this lazy crap! The only reason I did was because this movie has already made over a billion dollars and there is nothing I can do to affect its financial performance at this point, and that's really sad that a movie this bad is so successful.… Expand

Why does this exist? Who thought it was a good idea? Surprise, it was a terrible idea. Multiple performances are flat, (especially Jafar) the CGI is terrible, the new renditions of the songs are genuinely pretty bad, (and sorry, SpeechlessWhy does this exist? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. starts out pretty good, songs were ok and the special effects are really good. the movie broke mostly when aladdin is trying to convince the sultan that he is a prince and gets tongue tied. then, a magical voice spoke into my ear saying "leave now" and thats when i started to hate the film. but when the genie kept telling alladin he was not really a prince and he should be himself. what??? so, fake prince? i walked out then. music is mediocre and sounds like a million other songs you can easily play on your guitar. fine, i just expect a little more. i would wait until it comes on commercial TV, it will play much better.… Expand
