This is not a bad game...it is merely uninspired.
-
It's simple, yet still cool looking, and is one of the very few fighting games to include a four-player mode. It's not the best feature in the world, but it's something fun to do with your friends on the weekend.
-
Play MagazineA beautifully brutal fighter - a shining example of how incredible modern game models can look, and how powerful the Xbox is. Man it does nice boobs. [Jan 2003, p.80]
-
Technically solid, but Kakuto Chojin lacks the spark of a great fighter. It has no soul.
-
Official Xbox MagazineIt certainly says something about a game's quality when the most impressive feature is the lighting. [Jan 2003, p.84]
-
After playing (and completing) Kakuto Chojins single-player story mode in about 10 minutes or so you will you find yourself incredulously asking no one in particular, This is all there is?
-
It seems like the game is not just merely unpolished or unfinished, but almost completely absent.
-
Having studied martial arts myself for a few years, I'm aware that multiple drunken styles exist, but I did not realize ninjas were allowed to hit the sauce.
-
While the game offers some impressive production values, it ultimately seems shallow and incomplete, and it won't hold anyone's attention for long.
-
Attempts to be an exciting pugilist but fails miserably.
-
As generic and forgettable as the game's name.
-
The bottom line is that this game was and will apparently forever be nothing more than a mere tech demo.
-
The lack of options, modes and moves makes what could have been a decent game something to pass up. There is no excuse for this.
-
Not what it appears to be. Its like pulling a blond stunner in a club only to get home and discover your date is better endowed than you, and with five-oclock shadow to boot.
-
It is the fight system that fails Kakuto Chojin... once you discover each AI fighter's weakness, you can defeat them effortlessly with any character.
-
It is worth a rental for the interesting four-player battle mode, but this one interesting feature cannot save a game that is lacking in so many other areas.
-
Opponents cannot be forced off balance, pressured, or intercepted. Kaktuo Chojin rarely forces players to think, react, or adapt to their opponents. Worse still is the absence of a deep grappling system.
-
Fighters with minimal moves at their disposal, unbalanced characters, and an AI that can't hold up its end of the bargain conspire to make Kakuto Chojin feel like an empty shell.
-
Single-handedly manages to be one of the most derivative fighting games ever created -- to the point where it really doesn't seem to have a single original thought in its design or execution.
-
The few bright spots are that combos are easy to perform and each character does indeed have a distinctive fighting style. Yet these are quickly dimmed by players whipping through the Story mode within eight minutes using a single button (Y) for nearly all of the characters.
-
Cheat Code CentralOnce you get past the graphics you will be confronted with a cold and sterile fighting engine. The game is barren in the area of options, menu and unlockables.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyNothing but a disappointing concoction of fighting-genre cliches... Unquestionably the worst fighting game I've played in years. [Feb 2003, p.154]
-
Xbox Nation MagazineKC's four-player mode...is essentially the equivalent of a Yugo with a top-of-the-line 100-disc CD changer and 5.1 surround sound speaker setup. That is, it's useless. [Feb/Mar 2003, p.80]
-
A weak fighting system and more disappointments than Mike Tyson lead to one of the worst brawlers I've seen in a while.
-
Edge MagazineA stab at innovation would usually constitute an excuse for an otherwise diabolical title, but in Kakuto Chojin there are no puncture wounds, just lots of internal bleeding. [March 2003, p.104]
-
What was once a somewhat promising game, has easily become one of the worst of the year...Right up there with "Rise of the Robots" and "Shaq Fu." Stay away.
