    A very good game, history feels like it has much more to be developed, but it's excellent and it has an essence to old psychological terror games. You have to improve the gameplay, but it serves very well in what you want to play as a game. Very recommendable.

    Best game from Bloober team till now, the world is so detailed, sounds and music are so immpresive, and the story they really took care in writing it when you get hooked you can't stop. I enjoyed every part of the story and I hope there is a part 2.

    The first true next generation game, only playable on XBox SX or SS because running its two worlds on older hardware is not possible. On paper, it had enough ingredients to impress, however, the developers have made a few design choices that do not let the game shine as it should.

    Before I comment them, let me say that graphically, the game is very nice, specially the real world.     Before I comment them, let me say that graphically, the game is very nice, specially the real world. The characters movement could be improved, but are ok. And the voices volume is not properly levelled, so some are too loud and other too low.

    Getting back to the poor design choices:

    The first one is the perspective used. Using fixed camera views, which do not allow the player to properly see the objects and details of the scenes that far is really annoying and has brought me the same clunky feeling of the first 3D games, like when playing the first Alone in the dark. I thought that 20 years of 3D video games had taught us some lessons, but they insist in making the same mistakes again.

    On the other hand, when you interact with an object, the game kind of opens a new space, zooming in the object but limiting the pan you can make. Sometimes interacting with a object requires opening two of those spaces. When done, you have to exit those spaces with a button press. All this makes exploring the areas very frustrating.

    Although the idea of having two worlds is very interesting, the design of the alternate reality does not make much sense. For instance, at some point in the game you find a corridor with a huge hole in the ground that does no let you pass. Switching to the alternate reality, you see that the hole is not that big in that reality and you can cross. Really? The alternate reality is supposed to be the spiritual world, but the physical objects should be the same (and generally are, and just have different appearance). That is not playing fair.

    The puzzles presented often do not make much sense, for example, you are in a room with the exit door closed, and for the door to open you have to reproduce a tape which has no relation to the door. It does not make any sense and reduces your decision making in the game to having to try everything to advance.

    Despite all this flaws, the game is fun and is half as scary as it could have been, something I also appreciate.    … Expand

    Great story telling with a varied puzzle like game play combined with a walking simulator of sorts. The game catches you and doesn't let you out until the whole story is told, the only thing its letting it back is the lack cluster game play mechanics

    Those saying it has past gen graphics obviously played this game only on YouTube. Graphics are stunning and the only small isseu is with characters. Rest of the game is great. The game is fairly easy and could be more complicated but my vote goes for emotions during gameplay and i had best fun with the game in a long time. The game deserves second part.

    Maybe it just wasn't my type of game but The Medium was a let down for me. The opening and ending were strong in terms of story, but everything in between was a long stretched adventure tied together by collectables and short sequences. The controls were poor and the gameplay mechanics remained very basic. It amzed me hoe slow the character ’runs’, even when in danger.     A very pleasant game. All the negative reviews are from negative people. It's not Silent Hill, it's not horror, it's not action. It's an atmospheric narrative adventure. A sequel is essential.

    Gran juego sobre todo por su historia, ambientación y personajes aun así creo que bloober team es aun novato en juegos de tercera persona y falla en el control y jugabilidad aun así la música es de 10 y pese a no ser muy re jugable y desperdiciar algunas oportunidades con jefes es un muy buen juego para ser una nueva ip me encantó.

    Beautiful game with an amazing history! The gameplay is smooth and nostalgic, but the transition of the two worlds is a completely new gen experience! It is unbelievable the score and some reviews clearly to underscore the game.

    It took me 7 1/2 hours for medium and achieved 840 gamerscore. An entertaining horror story game that was told in a terrific way and that just lacked the threat of its horror element.

    story

    It was exciting, thrilling and well staged. The cut scenes, echoes, collectibles tell the intense ride of the medium Marianne. At no point did I feel any length in the game, on the contrary, you were actually always curious to see how it would go on. The story of Marianne and the uncovering of the past was a success from start to finish.

    While playing, you are constantly encouraged to make assumptions and interpret in order to recognize the picture that is emerging.
    Spoiler:
    The parentheses at the end are also very well interwoven for me. It all starts with a dead girl and that's how it ends? It remains to be seen whether Marianne killed herself or Lilly. I guess the former.

    Difficult topics are also addressed, where with some one can only guess what happened.

    Gameplay

    If you know the games from BlooperTeam, you know that it is probably a walking simulator. But the great thing about it all is the dual gameplay. That not only has to serve as a pure puzzle-solving aspect, but also shows a great staged world and is part of the protagonist. The creativity of the scenery really amazed me.

    The second memory from Thomas (Henry) was really cool, with the files etc., staged
    You could also interact differently in both worlds and the simultaneous rendering of the worlds was amazing.

    In terms of horror, the game could have gone better, it was way too easy to avoid the monster. You didn't even have to make an effort. The puzzles weren't really difficult either, but I don't think that's bad.

    Graphics / performance

    The Medium looks terrific in places, which is mainly due to the already mentioned very creative expression in its scenery. The two rendered worlds have very beautiful settings and yes, the demon world has a strange aesthetic in it too. Sometimes the game is staged in a pretty disgusting way (cutting skin).

    Much, Much praise for the game. But now I have to leave something out on the technology. I had to stop the game on my PC (this is not a bad PC) because it did not run smoothly at all. I've tried everything, but no chance to get the game to work properly. Unfortunately, I don't know why.

    Even on the Series X there were occasional FPS stutters, but it remained largely stable here. Despite all that, you always had such an uneven feeling when it came to the technology and that pulled me a bit out of the very dense atmosphere. I now have to look again in retrospect to see if there are better settings or something similar, but the problems were also reported in large numbers on Reddit and Co.

    Conclusion

    For me a terrific "horror" story, for me other story elements were much more intense than the horror aspect, which looks beautiful and is pleasantly entertaining. Unfortunately the technology weakens, therefore 9/10 skin flaps.    … Expand

    Buen juego, me gusto la historia desde el principio, sin embargo creo que el final me dejo un poco insatisfecho. En cuanto al apartado tecnico me parece que necesita optimizarse un poco mas, pero no esta nada mal, no tiene casi ningun bug, pero si uno que otro tiron.

    Игра не хоррор, она триллер и на самом деле это очень хорошо. Нет этих постоянных бездумных скримеров. Игра держит в напряжении и заставляет к ней возвращаться в новь и вновь.

    Fazit: Das Spiel eignet sich gut für den Einstieg ins Horror-Genre. Wer mit einigen technischen und spielerischen Schwächen leben kann, ist damit gut bedient.

    The game is similar to Resident Evil or Control, but without weapons. Therefore, you don't have to pay attention to resource management. The camera angle/view is always fixed. There are several puzzles, but they are not that hard to solve (except at the end).

    + Scary moments with some jump scares
    - high resolution objects are reloaded
    - Transitions cutscenes to gameplay too choppy (ingame character animations are pretty stiff).
    - Some moments of ambiguity, for example you have to flee from an enemy a split second after the cutscene and you die right away. This happens several times until you understand what the game wants from you.
    Conclusion: The game is well suited for an entry into the horror genre. If you can live with some technical and gameplay weaknesses, you will be well served.    … Expand

The Medium isn't really a horror game, its more a game about the work of Mediums with supernatural connections and powers to another world. What is there in the game feels like a step towards a greater game world, amazing characters and story for our Medium protagonists, in a future game maybe. The music is PHENOMENAL, as can be expected. The graphics, only slightly above par, with poorly utilized RT and some bad models and lip-sync but a whole lot of effort put in for most of the game worlds design. The Medium feels like a tribute to horror games from the 90s and I AM ALL ABOUT THAT. You really can't go past what is great value for a Game Pass title. Just wanted more, expected better and felt let down by how short the game is. Still really impressed though, would recommend a play regardless.     Overall 7/10, but only due to this being on GamePass.
    Played on XSX.
    Ok adventure game. Not really scary, tho the story is interesting from start to end.
    Also this game is an Xbox Series exclusive, but comes from a small studio so do not expect next gen graphics. Looks ok, nothing spectacular. Puzzles are easy but still ok.

    Now, what I disliked:

    Very much Enjoyed my experience with the medium it gave me a blast of nostalgia with some silent Hill vibes it’s not without floors but nothing a patch couldn’t fix I think a solid attempt to this sort of thing

    A truly beautiful game. From the atmospheric visuals to the haunting soundtrack everything about this game was done with heart. Bloober is known as a great studio for their genre titles and has done a great job with The Medium.

The sound is great and is quite immersive. The artwork is great but more subdued unlike bloober's Observer System Redux where the artwork is direct in terms of visuals.

OVERHYPED, OVERRATED GAME. Can't pan camera, meaning movement is difficult. I tried 4 times to run from maw after releasing Richard's soul and then I realized it's not my fault that I am failing, ITS THE NOOB DEVELOPERS. NO WONDER THEY CANT MAKE AAA GAMES. When running, Marianne tends to aimlessly run coz of that auto camera panning. The noob device can't seriously expect me to press a button for which I have to line up perfectly with the hole in the wall,then get confused about whether or not I should move the light or open the gate using bolt cutter that I have to equip and press LT and RT 4 times before the chain breaks and then push a button again to open the gets by when she is nit running anymore - all in a very limited amount of time?The mission is so UNBALANCED and BIASED that I didn't even feel like playing anymore.     Looks great but the gameplay is basically a heavy rain meets code veronica but not as good. Story starts off a little creepy but just ends up becoming tedius. Played it free on gamepass and I still don't recommend.

    The game plays great and kept me interested though out the game. Don’t let the negative comments get to you they’re probably some trolls that don’t want to see this games success.

The voice actors all do a stellar job in portraying their characters and conveying the varying emotions that drive the story. The major selling point of The Medium, that being the split world is beautifully portrayed. Both the real and spirit world are stunning to look at, as if they were taken straight from the paintings of Zdzislaw Beksinski. There are however some moments in the game where textures take too long to load that did take me out of the experience slightly but this can be excused as the game is also trying to render two synced worlds at once. Another immersion breaker but one that can also be overlooked is the facial animations that do appear quite stiff in most circumstances, this is however a AA game so I can understand. Probably the biggest letdown for me was the gameplay side of things. I would've appreciated at least a little bit of combat and more interaction with the world. There are moments throughout that just had me running back and forth that would have been enriched further with some combat, possibly against smaller enemy types, but this is just my opinion. To end on a more positive note, I must say another big standout of the game was the music and sound design. It managed to be both haunting and emotional, it did after all come from a legendary composer. Overall, The Medium pleasantly surprised me and I hope that this victory from Bloober Team means that they aren't done with the world of The Medium. There's so much potential for a sequel that I hope is coming.… Expand

    Un buen juego, no excelente pero si está "disfrutable" los puntos negativos son: Dura muy poco los modelos de los personajes parecen maniquíes (aunque eso se entiende ya que es un AA) y la caída de FPS no sucede mucho pero no es un punto a favor, ya de ahí el juego es hermoso y tiene mejor narrativa que cierto juego de Zombies...

    The game has good story and interesting plot, the visuals in this game are great and the camera angles are amazing it gets you in the mood of the game also the sound track is solid, the bad side of the game is that its short i took me around 6 hours to finish the game and i wish we got more information about the "other side"

    I played the game through with my sister and I have to say that it was an absolutely great experience. The setting is very scary and the method of saving souls and learning about the residents of the hotel at the time was incredibly immersive and sparked curiosity. Graphically awesome with facial animations that are not 100% polished. 10/10 AA game

Good story telling, great looking atmosphere, great lighting and audio, and the Ray Tracing is arguably the best I’ve seen so far in a new gen game. Biggest draw backs for me were: the indecisiveness on whether or not the game wants to be a walking simulator or not. The climax. More than 80% of the time I was really impressed with the environment and atmosphere. Whereas about 15% of the time I was impressed with character visuals. The most impressive moment coming at the end of the game where they close in on her face and you can see her pores and other details Lastly, I didn’t mind the cliffhanger ending. The medium has a lot of upside. I feel like with the right support Bloober Team can make a totally beast sequel. It could focus on Thomas fighting the Maw. Playing his part showed me that they can make a combat system if they tried. Spirit force attacks and parrying. It could work.… Expand

    Może historia mogłaby być dłuższa plus tytuł mógłby bardziej straszyć, ale suma summarum - jest BARDZO OK! Naprawdę fajna historia i wizualnie i nowatorsko. Gram w gry nie od dziś, ale MEDIUM na pewno nie zapomnę. Jeden z lepszych tytułów które przeszedłem. W sumie historię można by kontynuować nawet w kolejnym tytule bo mam nawet niedosyt hehe :).

Only qualm I had was that the villains never really felt threatening. The first chase scene was tough because I was still getting used to the static camera but after that even during the stealth portions I felt I could run around freely without getting caught. The puzzles were good though. Some were easy, some mildly difficult and some quite challenging with multiple pieces. Definitely worth a play through. Especially if you have gamepass.… Expand

    uwielbiam klimat tej gry, jej historię, postaci, muzykę, to nie banalna gra, ma nowe rozwiązania i łączy je z starymi klasycznymi, całość gry jest świetna a zakończenie gry super emocjonalne. chętnie poczekam na DLC i The Medium 2 lub na nową grę od Bloober Team.

    The game is beautiful and plays smoothly. They really nailed the look and feel of both the spirit and the material worlds. Although there isn't much in the way of complex gameplay, the atmosphere and simple puzzles were good enough to keep me engaged throughout.

    The story was confusing at times. There are a lot of characters with complex interwoven stories that are pieced together by exploring the world and finding notes and memories. The depth of the story is up to the player to discover. That doesn't work if the world isn't interesting enough to want to keep exploring and learning more about it. For me it was just right.

    If you're looking for non stop action, this aint it. But if you want to explore a beautiful, sad world to uncover an engaging story, The Medium is well worth your time.    … Expand

    Excelente juego, me ha logrado entretener, su calidad técnica y visual es lo mejor. Es juego totalmente narrativo con pequeñas dosis de terror, resolución de puzles, cumple con lo que se mostró inicialmente.

    The Medium has a great story that forces you to keep playing to keep unraveling its plot. It has no innovative mechanics, but it underpins the basis of its riddles in the duality of worlds, with a great technical display. Play in series x and the reendering and loading of both worlds was instantaneous. It was a good trip that I enjoyed from start to finish.

    Just finish the game and I love it is very easy but that's not necessarily a bad thing I really love the esthetic of the game and it runs really great on Series X love the end of the game the last cinematic is exciting

    It's a really good game to relax and enjoy the environmental around it

    Me gusta la jugabilidad me hace recordar a los antiguos juegos de terror, tristemente no explota todo su potencial, pero fuera de eso el juego es entretenido pero no llega a dar mucho mido como es un silent hill o un residet, sobre explotan mucho los jump scare , tienen mucho que mejorar si realmente quiere ser un sucesor de silent hill

The Medium es parte de esta evolución del género de terror, pero que a diferencia de otros que te ofrecen balazos, munición infinita y explotarle la cabeza al enemigo para que le salgan tentáculos, va más allá y nos ofrece una excelente narrativa la cual vas construyendo a medida que avanzas resolviendo los puzles y leyendo las pistas que encuentras, gráficamente tiene aspectos a mejorar sobre todo la de los modelados de los personajes, porque contrastan mucho con el realismo de los escenarios. Sin duda la parte más destacable es la innovación y el arte que hay detrás, los escenarios del mundo espectral son geniales visualmente y la música que lo acompañan dan una excelente atmosfera… Expand

    Despite clunky animations, repetitive gameplay and some technical issues with the Xbox Series X version, I completed The Medium twice. Its dual-reality design, art direction and brilliant soundtrack often made me stop to take in a view or relish the music. Its mature story and atmosphere reminiscent of Silent Hill helped a lot too.     The exclusive Microsoft - The Medium is yet another significant milestone in the catalogue of psychological horror games from Bloober Team, which is increasingly becoming one of the best studios in this area. Without hiding where it comes from, it's an experience horror fans won't want to miss, no matter how short. The duality approach is interesting and has enormous potential. I hope that the Bloober Team will get to work on it again and develop it more in-depth.
