This is a fantastic game. I don’t know what some of these people are talking about being a failure… I have not been able to put down my controller playing this game since day one. I’ve only scratched the surface of this game and can’t wait to see more Wonderful things from it.

This game is a lot of fun. It's not perfect but it comes close. I have sank so many hours into it and feel like I've barely scratched the surface. Starfield is a typical Bethesda game, with all its pros and cons. And that's not a bad thing. Bethesda knows how to make very interesting side quests that can even overshadow the main plot. At the same time, Bethesda has long been kicked for not the most technologically advanced and very limited engine. But the reasons why they show such negativity towards Starfield are absolutely not clear to me. Many people complain about constant loading, but no one is bothered by the fact that they take place literally in seconds, while the detail work in many of these locations is impressive. People complain that they can’t land and take off from planets on their own, which is why they have to use fast travel, but do you really want to land and take off from hundreds of planets with your own hands every time, despite the fact that in an hour of playing you can fly 20 times from one star system to another? Many people complain about NPC faces in cities, but how often do you look at bobbleheads in open worlds? There's a lot of talk about what you can't do in the game, but no one wants to talk about what you can do in the game. In addition to the usual battles on earth, space battles with boarding ships have been added; the construction of a “settlement” is not at all a mandatory element of the game, but this mechanic is worked out just as well as the others. and I'm not talking about the main story with additional tasks that are no worse than in Fallout or Skyrim. People also prefer to remain silent about the fact that this new universe is really interesting to explore and find out how the game world works. My opinion is not the ultimate truth, but it is my opinion. and I absolutely don’t understand where there is so much furious hate for this game. If you don't want to follow the herd and really form your own opinion, don't listen to anyone. including me. play for yourself and form your own opinion. All I can say is that Starfield is a typical Bethesda game, with all its pros and cons. And that's not a bad thing. Expand

However, we expected this game to be some huge, massive universe like No Man’s Sky and the amazing characters and story of Mass Effect and Cyberpunk, but it isn’t. I expected good spaceflight (is that the correct term?) but there really isn’t even a point to the tedious meas they call spaceflight since you can warp wherever, whenever. They took too many pages out of Elite Dangerous’ boring, tedious playbook. While Starfield isn’t bad at all (ignore people review-bombing it), it certainly isn’t 85-Metacritic-good. With a “creative choice” to lock the game at 30fps (Phil Spencer said that it wasn’t a hardware issue), it just proves that Bethesda lies through their teeth and still don’t know how to properly optimize their games and people need to stop defending them. There is absolutely zero reason the game can’t run at 60fps. Any other company would have made it run with a better frame rate. But Bethesda is known for this stuff and people keep defending it. So that really sucks the life out of the game. The main story is really boring and confusing. The characters are meh. Some are decent but most are completely forgettable. Unlike Fallout or Elder Scrolls, I have no real desire to explore or really do anything in the game. For the most part, it is just boring. Landing on any planet or moon is a barren wasteland full of nothing. At its core, the game is still a Bethesda game and still plays fine, despite them not coming up with a different formula, but it really fails to hit the mark in a lot of ways. Having said all of that, there is still plenty of fun to be had with this game. I just wish it was more entertaining. Expand

Starfield is a decent game. Not "great" by any means, but it's alright. The quests are engaging and interesting for the most part, if perhaps a bit unimaginative and cliche.

The graphics are looking VERY dated on the current game engine. The graphics aren't bad, per se, but they definitely look like they're from 2 console generations ago, not a good look for a game published in 2023.

The graphics are looking VERY dated on the current game engine. The graphics aren't bad, per se, but they definitely look like they're from 2 console generations ago, not a good look for a game published in 2023. Looks like they designed the entire thing around the engines that were available when they began development, and never updated when better technology became available.

I completely agree with other reviewers in the sentiment that the game is vast, but extremely lacking in content outside of the handful of "established" settlements. Now that's probably a realistic take on how things would be, exploring the galaxy in a starship, sure...but it just doesn't make for a "fun" experience for a video game.

The controls, man, now those are gawd awful. They are a clunky feeling, horrible mess. Sure, you can get used to them, eventually...but man they just don't feel good. The game feels just...well....clumsy and clunky. The controls in a game should be pretty much off your radar as a player...being so intuitive that you really don't think about what you're pressing to do things. Starfield is not like that at all, the interface (and navigating around it) feel awkward at the best of times; and frustrating and annoying at the worst of them.

The loading screens, and forced "cinematics" (docking, undocking, landing, etc.) are exceedingly annoying and if there were a way to simply turn them off, I feel most players would. It's annoying and I believe that most players cannot stand them after the first 1-2 times of seeing them.

So all-in-all, Starfield has promise, but currently it falls flat. Perhaps they can pull a No Man's Sky and turn it around with a little effort. We'll see.

-Beaucoup de pompage sur no man sky

The game isn't a 0, but it's not sniffing a 10 either. Anyone giving it those ratings is a disgrace, whether you're a user, or a so called critic. Review bombing goes both ways, & that overall score of 86 should actually be a 70-80.

It's a good game, but does absolutely nothing groundbreaking & doesn't live up to the decade long development, the ridiculous levels of hype, or that we had to wait even long for a new TES.

There's fun to be had with the game but it's not a GOTY contender by right when:
    - The console version is limited to 30FPS
    - Space exploration is extremely limited & the trailers/lead upto the game almost feel misleading to what we actually received.
    - The graphical fidelity is "ok", although maybe that's just other games setting new standards that Starfield doesn't live up to.
    - The core gameplay just isn't that interesting & it doesn't have that same "magic" that Skyrim had all those years ago.

Starfield almost feels like a game that stayed in development too long & missed a window, because there are so many elements to the game that already feel dated, & there's not a single breakthrough, or ground-breaking element that makes you look at it as a shining example of "What can be".

The graphics are solid, but not pretty, especially the lousy filters and color palette, but they're easy to fix. The inventory is virtually non-existent. You can explore space or simply look directly at the few assets that are generated, so you no longer need to explore the 1000 planets. The AI is somewhere between non-existent and stupid. The game can be big if you throw less money into marketing and more money into content. As usual, the game wasn't finished when it was released. Currently the game is a disgrace, a disappointment and not a milestone. If these are supposed to be Triple A titles, the gaming industry is a more dishonest industry than the food industry. What the game lacks is attention to detail, the power to enchant the player and content to make space exploration an experience worth playing. What can you say? Bethesda has thus arrived in the same ranks as EA and Ubisoft. The tools (spaceship) were promised to explore but space has not yet been integrated into the game. If you can't, leave out the thousand planets. Play an honest game and no one will be disappointed. The marketing lies are currently making the game unbearable. If you still have a shred of honor in you, you will get a boost of at least 100 buildings like the asset database and these in different types, so that the stupid NPCs are sometimes somewhere else. Don't let modders do your work, you asked for money for it, you were the one who leaned out of the window for years that this game would be epochal. This game is not finished. If you want to see what it looks like, with luck you can see in a year, with 1000 mods for each planet. This isn't a game, it's a tech demo Expand

But it’s hard to consider this an open-world experience given the compulsory fast-travel mechanic. And for the life of me, I can’t understand why the devs didn’t include drivable overland vehicles. This omission makes planetary exploration a chore.

World design is mundane with most of the cities and planets devoid of visual character - I’ve yet to see anything that I’ve wanted to screenshot. I’ve also found the graphics quality to be inconsistent (XBOX) and much of it poor. The skill tree is limited, but I can begrudgingly live with that thanks to some other features the game throws at you. Do the positives outweigh the negatives? Yes. Certainly enough to keep me playing till an 8/10 game gets released.

"Decent" looking for a game on their ancient, outdated engine
    Ship building
    Cons:
    - Everything is boring. The story is boring, the characters are boring, the environments are boring.
    - Exploration is a joke. This is a loading screen simulator as you simply spawn back and forth between empty, lifeless "zones".
    - Spaceship building is pointless since you can literally fast travel anywhere, at any time and bypass "space" segments.
    - Space segments are like the "zones" on worlds: you're in a box or a "fish bowl" where the planets are backdrops (that people have clipped through). Its the illusion of space "travel"
    - Spaceships are an illusion, you can't fly them over land, you spawn on a map and have to walk everywhere
    - No vehicles to traverse the large, empty, boring zones.
    - Side quests are next level dull
    - NPCs look worse sometimes than Skyrim and FO4
    - Bugs and glitches, many that are game breaking
    - Voice acting in some parts is laughably bad
    - Every world has 1-2 space crabs or lizards
    - No HDR support (Lol! Why Bethesda?!) and no Brighness options (?)
    - Most planets are flat, bland and uninteresting
    - No mining, usually not more than 1-3 points of "interest" in any "zone".
    - Worst AI in any Bugthesda game.
This is a distaster. Starfield is the crappier version of No Mans Sky, it doesn't even come close to having the features, the functionality, the interest or the competence of a 7 year old indie game.

TLDR: Wait to buy this game when its on sale for $40 or less with all the DLC, it is definitely not worth the $70 or $100 for the special edition.

    Hardware Specs:
    CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D
    RAM: DDR 4 3200
GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 7900 XTX

I run this game at 4k on ultra settings with FSR and VSYNC off.

    Performance: 5/10:
The performance of this game is mediocre even on good hardware, I get about 70fps average during gameplay, don't look at the reviews touting 100+ fps, they are including the loading screen fps in their averages. The game has frequent crashes to desktop, it seems it is crashing the AMD driver, as of this review, I am on the latest Adrenaline driver 23.9.1. When it is not crashing, performance is ok with minimal stuttering and loading screens are fairly quick.

    Graphics 6/10:
    - Textures are bland,
    - NPC models and facial expressions seem like a downgrade from Skyrim.
    - The lighting effects are good
    - Atmospherics are good
    - Water effects are dated.
    - Cities are well designed
    - Planets seem to be a quantity over quality approach

    Gameplay 7/10:
    - Gunplay has slightly improved over what was available in Fallout 4/76, enemies are bullet sponges though.
    - Melee is not as good as Skyrim.
    - Stealth feels like an afterthought in this game, and upgrades are locked behind grindy challenges
    - Speaking of grindy challenges: its tedious and annoying and must be in there only to artificially increase game playtime metrics.
    - Inventory management still has issues of previous Bethesda games
    - Ship building is fun, and you can definitely spend hours just customizing your ship, this seems kind of pointless though since you will spend hardly any time in your ship.
    - Loading screens for everything, its been how many years since Fallout 76 and they still cant do seamless areas?
    - You will end up fast traveling everywhere due to how annoying it is to use your ship for travel: Load screen to enter ship > cutscene to sit in captain's seat > cutscene to take off > load screen to enter orbit > cutscene to fly/jump to another planet/system > load screen for arrival to planet/system > load screen to land on planet > cut scene to land on planet > cutscene to leave captain's chair > load screen to leave ship.
    - Base building brings back bad memories of Fallout 4 outposts, but is improved.
    - Persuasion options are generic
    - Exploration is boring, there are around 5 points of interest per planet, and their is heavy asset reuse. this goes back to my quantity over quality comment. Would have preferred less more detailed planets akin to mass effect rather than 1000 boring ones.

    Story 6/10:
    - Majority of quests are either fetch quests or kill quests, would have liked to see more exploration quests since exploration was sold as a big part of the experience.
    - Main quest is pretty boring, I keep seeing other reviewers say "It gets better 20 hours in," if the story can't keep your interest in the first hour, there are major issues with it.

In summary, I returned the special edition game, to pay $100 for a game that is using an iteration of Bethesda's dated, poorly optimized engine is not worth it.

The game still has issues that have plagued the engine since Oblivion such as items randomly flying about if you get to close to them, to bodies clipping through items, to NPC pathing trouble.

Overall, I will probably re-purchase this game when it is heavily discounted, and hopefully modders will have fixed the major issues with Starfield by then, which in my opinion, sheds a bad light on Bethesda that has supposedly been working on this for 20 years, seemingly having learned nothing from their past games. Disappointing to say the least.

See that mountain over there? You can climb it! See Pluto? You can go to it....... Just take you 7 hours to get to it....... What fool whatever do that? And then get there, and it's a cardboard cut-out. What an absolute joke! Buggythesda doing what they do best! The same, same, same, same. Awful awful character models! This is 2023.

I gave this game a chance on XBSX on game pass, it's unplayable, combat is terrible, it's back to 2007, the characters talking are blunt, animations are back to 2010's. This is not a 2023 game, the story does not make you care about anything.

I just can't help to compare it with Mass Effect 1 2007, where the combat made sense. I don't think how can you make a game with this type of

When I saw the Starfield ceremony, I thought that this game could become a really good game with these ideas. But unfortunately, as always, Todd Howard only gave people hope, and from the beginning, by announcing that the game would have 30 frames on Xbox, I realized that this game has made-up the biggest mistake. The many loadings of the game are extremely boring and destroys the sweet feeling of entering the planets. To leave the ship, you have to see loading, even for fast travel! This game could have been the best, but it seems it ruined by lies of the developers's ambitious ideas. Expand

I rate it 97/100, there are a few minor things like city maps that can be better but wow, this is a great game. It is the most fun I've ever had playing a game. I am 20 hours in and can't wait to play more. I have never been this compelled to play a game. I was almost late for work! Amazing work Bethesda and Xbox.

Excellent game. Lots of options to explore and choose your own path. Unlike a souls game where you die every few minutes this lets you explore without worry. I enjoy it but fear it's so expansive and there are so many options that I will never really be able to play it in its entirety.

It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
