Been playing it for 50 hours. It has minor design flaws (inventory management), but the mass of tasks and quests is unique.
In addition, there is a fantastic unused setting. Absolutely recommendable

I played past the 10h mark hoping it would get better but It did not, I just couldn't stand another minuted of this game. To me that has to be the definition of a 0/10 and I hope I can get a refund.

It's does not have an interesting world/characters, combat gameplay is way bellow average, spaceship combat is even worse

Amazing what they where able to achieve with such an old graphic engine (it shows its limits specially on the loading screens). But overall it is exactly what a core Bethesda game must be.

Starfield is the disappointment of the year. 10 hours into the game and I don't quite understand what the ship is for, apart from the fact that its combat is terrible. The shooting system sucks, and the exploration is extremely massive. Apart from Fallout 76 I don't know if Bethesda has ever made a worse game.

The result is what’s easily Bethesda’s most accomplished title. While nothing Starfield does is truly revolutionary to the genre, what it does do it does so well, and at such a jaw-dropping scale, that after we’d started playing we thought about it every morning, every night, and then it even invaded our dreams.

The result is what’s easily Bethesda’s most accomplished title. While nothing Starfield does is truly revolutionary to the genre, what it does do it does so well, and at such a jaw-dropping scale, that after we’d started playing we thought about it every morning, every night, and then it even invaded our dreams.

You begin Starfield as a miner on a remote planet working for a faceless corporation. You’re tasked with unearthing a strange artifact that’s been found on the planet. After touching the item, you experience a strange sensation, like being one with the cosmos. Following this, you’re approached by Constellation, a group that’s dedicated to exploring the wider galaxy and discovering the secrets of these artifactsfocused a lot on my social skills because, much like Fallout before it, Starfield isn’t the most adept shooter. It may look like one, with a huge range of weapons to collect and the ability to play from a first-person perspective, but this is not Destiny. Aiming feels wonky, and oftentimes, shots that seem to hit an enemy point blank will fail to register. It’d be nice if Starfield had the equivalent of the VATS system from Fallout, giving it pseudo-turn-based combat, but instead, it’s just a passable shooter attached to a very ambitious RPG. That might be the reason I spent so many skill points on my persuasion abilities.

Conversation remains a big part of the experience. You spend a lot of time talking, with an up-close view of whoever you’re conversing with. You’ll need to chat with companion characters to get closer to them (while also making sure you don’t do upsetting things, like, uh, murder people in front of them) and others to garner information or get yourself out of trouble. Considering the sheer amount of dialogue, all of which is voiced, it’s impressive just how consistently well-written and acted Starfield is. There are some awkward moments when there are more than two people in a conversation — sometimes a character might not be facing you when speaking, and the cuts between dialogue can feel unnatural — but otherwise, it’s all very convincing, which is good since you’ll be spending a lot of time doing it.

So, while the shooting While the tone and scale of Starfield differ from past Bethesda games, the core gameplay is very similar. It’s an RPG crossed with a shooter, where you can build out a character using a variety of traits and skills. Often, this can impact how you approach missions; sometimes, you can talk your way into getting what you want, and other times, you’ll need to fight. When Starfield's visuals deliver, oh boy, they really deliver. Global illumination cleverly washes the game in evocative tones that bring alien valleys to life in a way that previous iterations made in the Creation Engine simply could not. Absurd draw distances can make a straightforward mountain climb incredibly rewarding and meditative, flanked by the majestic and hopeful

As someone who has never been deeply invested in a Bethesda RPG in the past, I was slightly skeptical about whether I would enjoy Starfield upon release. I purchased my copy, and have only played about 14 hours of the game, still having not completed the main story, and I love the game.

Starfield can feel empty at times, however I found the environments enjoyable to discover. The graphics can at times be off putting, but more often than not they look stellar. Same deal with characters, some rough but most are good. The writing keeps me coming back. I love walking around and my companion suddenly asks "you got a minute," and we begin talking about things that happened in previous quests, or the characters past.

The gameplay is nothing spectacular, but is still enjoyable. Its fun to shoot and kill enemies. The AI can be a bit funky at times, and many weapons are just the same model with different stats. I found myself encumbered for a while not knowing why, but once I found out it was because I was carrying too much I was a little upset. Character customization is very in depth, letting you change things like facial structure, pronouns, walking animations, perks, and starting skills. One of my perks lets me visit my characters parents and they'll sometimes give me gifts. Finding them in the world is also enjoyable.

Ship customization is fun. Base building is ok, I haven't spent much times in that part of the game. Space combat is very clunky to me, but I can see the appeal. Everything in the game is good, but the game doesn't have land vehicles which makes exploration a very slow endeavor. I have to walk very long distances at times, so a rover would be nice. The abundance of loading screens is also an issue. At first they didn't bother me, but as I continues they seemed to go from 1 second to 3, then 5. I'm patient, but when I have to load my ship, space, traveling into another system, and the planet it can get tiresome.

Despite the flaws, Starfield has been an enjoyable time from when I started, to when I last played. I really don't understand all the hate the game gets. Its really good. I give Starfield an 8/10, but I've given it a 9 to help boost the score a little bit. This game doesn't deserve the low rating it currently has. It feels like many reviewers haven't even played the game, but hey I could be wrong, they are entitled to their own opinion. Thanks for reading my review.

    See you in the Starfield

For those who were incredibly excited by what was shown during every showcase and trailer, you’re gonna be more than satisfied. To remove any suspense, the game is perfect, but not flawless. The game is everything Bethesda fans have anticipated for 25 years, a new world, by new standards. Starfield marks the transition of the studio from a leader to a pioneer of the RPG and WRPG genres. The game starts out slow, the intro feels like it is hours while it lasts only a few minutes, upholding the tradition of iconic yet tiresome intros Bethesda gave in their previous games like Skyrim, Oblivion and Fallout. But once you get off Vectera, your journey only yet begins. The world is amazing, although very huge and lonely, it is more filled than you can imagine. The graphics though, look good, but not revolutionary. They sometimes look outdated, or if you put enough zoom and focus on them, but overall, it is by no means unacceptable. Gameplay is a big step up. The UI is confusing and not very organized, but adaptable. The animations and movements never felt more alive and human in a Bethesda game before. And the player immersion takes some time, especially for the lack of guidance (mine personally was not letting me know to scan before attending New Atlantis, where I wasted 15 mins wondering why I can’t land in the latter), but once it takes effect, it’s rewarding and brilliant. Combat is great, not revolutionary of course, but fun and engaging, whether it is firearms or just melee. Story is interesting, but I couldn’t finish it because I was already doing side quests, so that’s a great point. Soundtrack is instantly iconic, very well-made, soothing, epic. I’m not embarrassed to say that I spent 10 minutes on the menu just listening to it. Now, overall, the game is as mentioned earlier perfect but not flawless. It’s an engaging masterpiece. And at the moment, it’s my GOTY. Many people may agree or disagree, but to each its own. Starfield, from me, gets a solid 9/10. Expand

It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
