Fantastic game. The depth and breadth of exploration here is second only to the attention to detail. Truly a masterpiece, and a must-play for anyone with a penchant for an epic soundtrack.

Anyone who has found Bethesda's recent games to be simplified will be pleased by the number and complexity of different systems. Everything from spaceship building, crafting, base building, and rpg mechanics have received care and polish.

    The bad:
It's very tempting to fast travel constantly. In doing so the game can lose the feeling of scale.

Overall - loved it. Will probably be playing for the next 12 months at least.

Some of these drones excuse was a predictable "they haven't played the game" or "these must be Sony Fanboys" on valid criticism for the state of the game in 2023. Because tthat's the only way they can justify to keep kneeling down with their mouth open for whatever Todd Howard is giving them. Nothing made a game studio looks worst than it is than Bethesda's and XBOX's rabid fanbase that are so starved of exclusive game that they are willing to whore themselves for this trash.

It's Bethesda's game, with all its jankiness, incomplete features, and design decision that made you scratch your head in a 2023 AAA game. No brightness and no FOV sliders in 2023? 30 FPS menu in 2023? Absolutely lazy game design with an outdated graphic engine. Not to mention unspired story, dead eyes NPCs, and random **** of bugs that it absolutely hilarious to see people still defend it.

It's funny that Larian moved Baldur's Gate III release ahead of this fearing competition when Starfield still couldn't hold a candle to the epic masterpiece in term of concurent users, sheer review score, and amount of content. That was a passion project and it showed. Baldur's Gate III animals have a better personality, animations, and emotions than your main story companions in Starfield. If this is the best XBOX can muster for their exclusives, they deserve to be dead on the water for any future console wars. Pathetic garbage of a game.

Do I recommend it? not on a full price. Wait for a sale and wait till modders fix this game. As always.

Reviewers are saying you can't compare it to Cyberpunk, Dying Light 2, GTA5 as Starfield has so many systems. Well I'm calling BS. All those games have huge cities that now run at 60fps, look way better, feel better and have far far fewer loading screens. And the supposed multitude of systems that give Starfield a pass?.... a bunch of Mass Effect 1 procedurally generated planets with repetitive linear bases, caves etc. And space exploration via fast travel. Yes It's playable, but set your expectations to something similar but slightly worse than Fallout 4 (as its 30fps), with convoluted systems, and half baked exploration and planets

Even when you fly with your ship outside the planet, they could just make the entire system one big area like no man's sky, instead of going from planet to planet with loading screens EVERY SINGLE TIME. on the other hand, like i said before, the game has such a great story, full of plot twists and stuff like that, it's a little bit complicated but you'll understand once you finish all the main quests. no man's sky, the game i mentioned before, came out back in 2016 and it has less loading screens than this game. in conclusion, i think that Starfield is still a great game, with its flaws obviously, but still good to play. Some seemingly copy paste environments where I have had the exact same base on differing planets. The npcs, while an improvement on previous titles, are still a world apart from other games in a similar vein. The problem, in my opinion, is the ageing engine, while it has been modified heavily and capable of some truly detailed textures and enviroments, is showing it's age. I do think it's time to put the old bird out to pasture and build a new engine (creation engine 3?) from scratch. But it's a double edge sword as modding is a big thing with this current engine and maybe that why they chose this rather than another engine that may not be capable of such easy modding for the community. I truly don't understand the hate for this game, yes I'm talking to you guys that left 0 score or a 1 because I question if you even played the game at all. Not liking a game and leaving a legitimate score is one thing, no one is saying you must leave a 10 or nothing, but at least judge it properly. Not through the eyes of a fan boy. Yes it has problems with vast emptiness, but such is the nature of space. Most, maybe even all, are barren in reality. Does barren equate to a good time? Not really but showing that space is barren and that you could go lifetimes before discovering a thing is in my opinion a good thing, makes you feel truly alone in this vast universe and is what makes it special. And the excitement of looking out the vast barren landscape only for something to catch your eye is something to behold, so you set out in the direction of that spot you see. Maybe is another rock but who knows what you'll find. And that is part of the charm, outside of the main quests and countless side quests. This game truly captures how lonely I imagine space to be, and how small we truly are. Give it a go. With an open mind. Who knows, maybe you'll love it. And if you don't that's cool. Don't hate a game simply because it's on a competing platform, that truly is silly because you will miss out on some truly astounding games. Expand

I'm a gamer who prefers fun single-player games to competitive multiplayer games and one who typically looks at bad reviews of products first, but I will urge you not to put very much stock in the bad reviews for Starfield. I'll let you know what the faults of the game are in my opinion first then the good. Keep in mind all the faults I mention are addressable with updates or mods. So pay no attention that claim the game is broken. It most certainly is not broken.
Fault 1 by far is the lack of tutorials. There are some there, but I feel like there would be fewer bad reviews if the game had some more in-depth tutorials. There is a help menu in the start menu that helps a lot, but still you're probably going to need to youtube one or two things. And honestly do that before you play the game as I know there are many spoiler free videos that help a lot.
Fault 2 is the unoptimized inventory system. It's just kind of clunky and too simple for such a complex game. There needs to be a few more sorting filters and maybe some kind of inventory search would make things easier.
Fault 3 and probably the one that will be addressed as soon as possible by Bethesda since it is universally a fault literally everyone who plays Starfield are the city maps when you're in a city. Without spoiling anything there are very broad points of interest on static looking screen and that's it. It doesn't show where vendors are or things of that nature. For someone who is forgetful like me remembering where things or when I haven't been to that city in a while is quite frustrating. Again they are probably working on this.
    Now for the good.
Pro 1 The game's combat system and mechanics are simple and fun. I thoroughly enjoy it. Anyone can pick it up and play it without a problem. A lot of the hate on this aspect is coming from competitive multiplayer gamers. This is a single-player Bethesda game not Call of Duty and people need to set their expectations accordingly.
Pro 2 The story and quest are really fun and do a good job building that connection with the characters.
Pro 3 The graphics and feel of the game are great and are the typical Bethesda art style. Think updated Fallout.
Pro 4 The amount of different ways you can play the game are astonishing. I can understand some people puting this as a fault since it can be overwhelming, but if you like to play a game a certain way like as a villian/pirate or a hero you can do it all here. You can play mostly in space if you want or planet side. You can spend most of your time building a ship or outposts if that's what you like to do. You can also play like me and create multiple characters each with their own playstyle. It's literally up to you and the fact that the there are so many options is amazing.
I hope this review helps someone decide to play the game and give it a fair shake as it deserves. It will be worth it.

The graphics are solid, but not pretty, especially the lousy filters and color palette, but they're easy to fix. The inventory is virtually non-existent. You can explore space or simply look directly at the few assets that are generated, so you no longer need to explore the 1000 planets. The AI is somewhere between non-existent and stupid. The game can be big if you throw less money into marketing and more money into content. As usual, the game wasn't finished when it was released. Currently the game is a disgrace, a disappointment and not a milestone. If these are supposed to be Triple A titles, the gaming industry is a more dishonest industry than the food industry. What the game lacks is attention to detail, the power to enchant the player and content to make space exploration an experience worth playing. What can you say? Bethesda has thus arrived in the same ranks as EA and Ubisoft. The tools (spaceship) were promised to explore but space has not yet been integrated into the game. If you can't, leave out the thousand planets. Play an honest game and no one will be disappointed. The marketing lies are currently making the game unbearable. If you still have a shred of honor in you, you will get a boost of at least 100 buildings like the asset database and these in different types, so that the stupid NPCs are sometimes somewhere else. Don't let modders do your work, you asked for money for it, you were the one who leaned out of the window for years that this game would be epochal. This game is not finished. It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
