    I wanted to love this game, I love space exploration as a concept, I love RPGs and the kind of "firm" Science Fiction tone this game uses (similar to Mass Effect). Problem is this game experience is frustrating to say the least.

    Exploration is tedious because Starfield's universe is largely empty, especially when you deviate "off the beaten path." This was really surprising given    I wanted to love this game, I love space exploration as a concept, I love RPGs and the kind of "firm" Science Fiction tone this game uses (similar to Mass Effect). Problem is this game experience is frustrating to say the least.

    Exploration is tedious because Starfield's universe is largely empty, especially when you deviate "off the beaten path." This was really surprising given Betheda's history and their famous touting of their worlds, I was expecting a game where venturing off the paths of quests would be like FO4 or Skyrim, where I stumble onto some side content that pulls me in and I look back two hours later and say: "Wait, I was doing a quest!" To be very clear: Starfield DOES NOT give you this experience in the least. Many of the worlds in Starfield are largely empty and offer few NPCs or locations to interact with.

    The gameplay feels dated as well, not outright bad, more like they just took FO4, stapled on some 2016 No Man's Sky, and applied a new coat of paint. Ground combat is very stale, largely due to a combination of bad AI, bullet-sponge enemies, and that most guns have really toned down sounds... Then there is space combat. The ship and base-building mechanics are much improved from their FO4 roots, clearly this is where Bethesda spent A LOT of time, and it shows. I can say I was very pleased with what I could do with my ship after awhile and there are many options in regards to constructing your base/home. That being said, combat in space is just very poorly balanced because you have the same "bullet sponge" issues from ground combat, but the added difficulty of lacking cover. This places a lot of onus on the player making sure you are upgrading your ship, particularly on higher difficulties, and causes this heavy emphasis on resource gathering, hence the NMS comparison.

    Then there are the bugs. I expected them given its a Bethesda game, but this... It isn't as bad as FO76, but it also feels like Bethesda just haven't learned anything in the last 15 years. I can't tell you how many times I had companions or enemies stuck on level geometry that would either impede my progress, and more than a few times it required me to re-load and hope I didn't end up with an enemy shooting me from behind a wall or above the ceiling where I couldn't shoot back or end up with a companion preventing me from moving into a room with the quest objective. I had crashes, I had physics and texture bugs, I had objectives fail to properly complete requiring reloads.

    I compared this game to 2016 No Man's Sky earlier, and I really think that is what Starfield is: 2016 No Man's Sky with a Bethesda RPG skin. It has the same lifeless universe NMS did in 2016, the same mechanical issues with the world, which I assume are driven by lazy use of procedural generation, and many of the same problems with the gameplay loop. If you're willing to grind it out for the sake of the RPG mechanics and ship-building, the two lone bright spots of this title, then more power to you. Personally, I found this game tedious to play and unrewarding to explore.    … Expand

    Starfield is extremely disappointing through the lens of Bethesda's past history, as it's massive regressions and streamlining of the Bethesda design philosophy makes it feel a lot more empty in a lot of regards. Stuff like the loss of AI Schedules, looting changes on both NPC's and general "clutter", a terrible map for the surrounding area/city, the overall reliance on fast travel due to the way traveling and the instances work, space being a buffer instance where there's a small chance of something happening, but it's just there to get a view of the planet before you land on it, sandwiched between 2 loading cutscenes. (Biggest gripe, world feels so broken up and even on planets extremely empty.). A ton of the Bethesda "staples" are cut down to such a degree that it's hard for that level of immersion to "click" in the same way their games have since Morrowind to around Fallout 4. The very basic looting and equipping (We have now fully regressed into having a grand total of 3 equipment slots for armor with 2 additional slots for clothing.) The armor models comes in 2 different sets repainted, and guns are a weird step in a different direction from Fallout 4's customization, as there is much less of a reliance on it here. It's a weird mix of what feels like a blend of laziness, streamlining, or even rushing that I can't quite put my finger on for a lot of these sorely implemented features.

    It's both little and big things that make me sad seeing one of my favorite developers streamline their games from tremendous RPG adventures, to instanced mindless looter shooters.

    The game is fun despite all this. It has a lot of strengths, keeping at least a large chunk of the Bethesda charm in the jank that stems from the engine. Combat is the best feeling it's ever been. The soundtrack is absolutely outstanding and captures the world completely. Spaceship building is a blast. The new persuasion system is a massive win. The story and side content has been fun, but suffers from the very basic writing Bethesda suffers from.

    Overall, It's in a weird place where I really can't recommend it unless you were a massive fan of Fallout 4 and want more of it, or just really enjoy the modern Bethesda design philosophy. It's a shame Bethesda gets the "mods will fix it" pass, Bethesda should be making better games. They've arguably gone downhill in most ways. Another reason is performance, at least on PC. There's no good way to recommend a game where even on a high end rig you're facing an unoptimized mess.

    Can't wait to see where the game goes in the future, but with it's overall disappointing and streamlined nature, I would find it hard to see myself coming back to this game over and over again in the future like I have with previous their games back to Morrowind. Who knows if things will be fixed or changed, or if my opinion will change. YMMV    … Expand

    People will defend this with, "Its realistic, most planets are empty in real life". Simply eat turds if you are one of these people. No mans sky puts this game to shame.     Starfield was a huge disappointment for me. While playing this game, I felt like I was going back 20 years because the mechanics used are so obsolete. I could also talk about the stupid AI, the poverty of exploration (which is mainly done through menus and teleports) and the numerous bugs.

    It took them 7 years to make THIS? Last generation graphics, endless loading screens, mediocre gunplay, boring story, laughable AI, AND it takes 10-15 hours for it to "get good". Save your money and time. Doesn't live up to the hype - not even close.

    I had such high hope for this. As someone who grew up on Bethesda rpg’s I am utterly disappointed. Slow game, last gen graphics and countless loading screens. After putting in 12 hours, I can safely say that it’s not for me.

    Hate that you cant travel to planets directly and that you have to fast travel to them. It takes away the feeling of adventure of getting in your star ship and literally go anywhere you can make it. Also for a 3080 this game looked weird especially the scenes with they're helmets on the characters looked like literal clown fish. Boring Dialogue too.

    To be 100% honest Starfield is an rpg that happens on planet surfaces. There is no space travel (It’s all done by menus). No real landing, no space flying… you just looking a jpeg (You never get closer to the planet in space. Everything is a lie… It’s like a 2006 game, everything is beyond loading screens. Down the planet? Loading screen. Enter a cave? Loading screen… Menus are confusing,To be 100% honest Starfield is an rpg that happens on planet surfaces.     started playing Starfield day one and got alot of bugs and glitch. The loading screen is really long, take me 1 minute to start playing every time. This 30fps is unplayable to play on the most powerful console. the character really scares me with their faces. its like a nightmare. The planets are really empty, nothing to explore. no vehicle, just a walking simulator. My review is a 0/10started playing Starfield day one and got alot of bugs and glitch. Sometimes they are dumb! One of my quests are bug stuck, can’t do anything about it until there’s a patch. Space is limited and not free to explore. Some planets don’t even exist, they just JPG planets. SomeFirst, you need really good pc to play this game. This game is not optimized well. I already experienced few bugs like NPCs falling through the floor. Walking through the walls. Sometimes they are dumb! One of my quests are bug stuck, can’t do anything about it until there’s a patch. Space is limited and not free to explore. Some planets don’t even exist, they just JPG planets.     Well, the game looks good, but not enough to explain the extremely high GPU requirements. There are better looking games out there, with noticeable lower requirements. The game doesnt worth spending money upgrading the PC system, because:
    1. The story is not very good
    2. The world feels "robotic" - Souless NPCs walk around without any adequate reaction to the environment 3. The worlds and    Well, the game looks good, but not enough to explain the extremely high GPU requirements. There are better looking games out there, with noticeable lower requirements. The game doesnt worth spending money upgrading the PC system, because:
    1. The story is not very good

    3. The worlds and the overall ganeplay feel very repetitive. 4. Most of all and the biggest problem of them all: The game is A MENU FAST TRAVEL SIMULATOR. Absolutely no feeling of scale.     What a piece of dog crap Is this game: bugs everywhere, fps drops to 0 and 7, the npc IA Is very stupid, when you are approaching a planet you just get a low resolution jpeg image and when you land the planet dissapear, main history only last for 11 hours, tree and vegetation graphics looks like a ps2 game. Dont buy crap.

    Facial animations are straight up scary, travelling is a series of loading screens when it could've been so much more.
    Space may aswell not exist, it's entirely useless in this game, it exists for the handful of small battles you'll have there, of which in 28 hours I experienced no more than    I like Bethesda games, but this is a Bethesda game from 10 years ago, nothing has been updated.

    Honestly. The game is just not fun. You spend most of your time either looking at loading screens or in the 100 menus. NPC are very dumb and don't add anything to the experience. Gunplay is alright but unfortunately fights are very repetitive. There is no exploration which would be fine if the rest of the game had any substance. This game feels like it had no direction, no goal and no vision.

    Played an hour on GP. Its Fallout but in space. Still using the same game engine as in 2009 as I'm still getting motion sickness. No originality. Same linear scripted borefest. For space games, I just want a ship to start and let me explore the Universe. Gunplay is horrible. Even though it was free, I uninstalled it.

I think the ambition was there but they bit off more than they can chew. Phil Spencer and team should be ashamed that this was the final product of a game 25 years in the making. Bethesda’s best days are behind them, they are a shell of their former selves.

    This is the first game with 30 fps that causes me dizziness and nausea.
    I have never seen so bad 30 fps performance.
    For example I had no problem playing Gotham Knights, which is also running on 30 fps.

    The main problem is that the game has current day written all over it. You literally have to choose your PRONOUNS at the beginning. Not kidding. I never remember any Bethesda game doing that. Also going back to the characters, the amount of forced diversity, badass, unattractive women and women who look like they work in a HR department are plentiful. For a game that is so bland to begin with, this breaks the immersiveness and reminds you are playing a game made in modern day California, not exploring on planets far away. It seems all AAA games these days are cursed with modern day woke identity politics which is a big deal-breaker for me and, I'm guessing, a lot of other people.

    No tengo un PC ultra moderno. Ryzen 5 3600x 16 de ram y 2070 con esto juego muchos portentos como cyberpunk, RDR2 MFS a 1440 casi todo en alto y bastante fluido. Entre 50 y 70fps esta porquería va a unos 50fps y después se bloquea continuamente. O sea, 0fps. Y tienen la csradurez de decirte que actualices tu PC.. Típico de estos idiotas

You don't build characters so much as have pointless skills that you will be forcing yourself through just so you can have a conversation with someone, or attempt to play the game a certain way. Whole buildings in the game are completely recycled on other planets too, to the point where I was able to shoot people without even seeing them because I knew they would be there. Also the story feels bare bones, the characters you play with are mostly lifeless, possibly written by an AI? If you want to play a walking simulator because you have too much money there's Death Stranding. If you want to play space exploration there's No Man's Sky. This game is way too expensive for what it is, and is sadly lesser than the games (from this very developer) before it. Sometime it looks pretty though.... Sometimes.… Expand

    It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

    While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
