There is a game breaking bug in RTTS with pitcher progression. VEL, BRK , etc cannot go past 37. They just reset back to the beginning and never progress. The same thing as the previous 1000 years. I don't know what made IGN so excited. The presentation is absolutely untouched. But baseball lovers have no other options. DO NOT BUY!

Possibly the worst sports game to ever grace Xbox and I am not joking in the slightest. The gameplay is genuinely one of the most painstakingly bad experiences of all time. The game is exactly the same as it has been for the last decade just with a new cover and roster updates. Lastly, SDS absolutely cooked diamond dynasty with the addition of sets which makes getting new cards not even enjoyable because you know that you will not be able to use them in two months time. The pay-to-win nature of all those terrible EA Sports games is here. Diamond Dynasty you will be missed. It was fun while it lasted, but this game going forward should be avoided as most sports game unless you're looking for roster updates and slot machines. Cash grab after cash grab. All the good players are locked behind a paywall

Roster update more or less. Since year one, only thing they actually put work in on is the stupid card packs and road to the show is even more pay to play than it used to be. Got it through gamepass and it’s already uninstalled.

Swing and a miss from SDS. Another step backwards as the engine continues to show its age. The presentation changes are poor, especially the flyovers which look like they belong two console generations ago. There are no significant gameplay changes. Once the top franchise mode in sports gaming, SDS's Franchise is worse than EA's NHL.

The majority of the positives come from the addition of the Negro Leagues stories. Other than that, there's not much positive to write about.

In no way is MLB The Show 23 worth $70.

This game is about the same garbage as the last. All the lazy developers did is slap a number 23 on the cover and called it a day. The greedy developers are charging $70 for a roster update. To be fair, the developers did give it to Xbox Game Pass owners at no extra cost for the third time in a row. That's one thing the developers are doing right. That's one thing the developers are doing right. If videogame developers are going to keep charging full price for roster updates, it better be in a subscription service day one. This is what the rest of the developers should be doing with these annual releases. This however does not excuse the outrageous price of $70. The baseball sound effects are well designed.

The multiplayer is trash. I don't know if it's the lag or just me, but the gameplay mechanics feel so inaccurate. I only recommend this game at $10-$15 if you don't have Game Pass.

The single worst baseball game I've ever played and I've played most of them.
The game has the most unintuitive, over-complicating hitting in any baseball game/franchise, period.
How do you take the most fun part of a game and completely ruin it? Play this game and your question will be definitively answered. The fielding system is also an over-complicated mess. The pitching system is

The pitching system is the only part of the game that feels normal, like other baseball games.
Absolute garbage and after buying and playing this game for a couple of days I was able to return it for a full refund.
It's amazing these days how devs completely forget and ignore that games are supposed to be fun. This game perfectly illustrates that point.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main issue with The Show is you can suddenly be put in a game, there's runners on bases, and you have no clue how you got there. I've been to plenty of double A and major league games and I rarely if ever saw them sub a baseman or fielder. Other issues are of course the micro transactions, and inconsistent stats. You'll go into a game, your team has 5 starters better, 2 ties, and 2 worse and somehow the opposing team holds your guys to 1 maybe two runs, while they score 6 to 10. Another thing I've noticed is the DH (usually picked to be DH because of the amount of hits) is usually terrible at getting on base Expand

If you are looking to play some baseball, MLB The Show 23 is 100% the first option to pick. It has game modes galore with control schemes to suit any kind of player. The presentation is absolutely fantastic and the in-game help can turn most players into proficient bat swinging monsters.

I can recommend MLB The Show 23, but not to everyone. It's a very good game that even players who aren't necessarily baseball fans can enjoy. And that's totally cool. Other sports series should also have such options. However, in terms of content, there are very few changes. The educational story mode in The Negro Leagues is great. Some minor changes in other modes are also nice. But it's more like an expansion of 22. Even on the technical side and also on the rules side.

MLB The Show 23 does enough to revamp an excellent formula, while the Storylines: Negro Leagues mode serves as an important history lesson within the confines of the game.
