I put in 60+ hours in this game only for the developers to take a sledgehammer to all that hard work with the recent patch. I'm done with Diablo and I'm done with Blizzard

The July 18, 2023 patch 1.1 had zero, none, zilch, nada, sh!t, QOL improvements and simply made the game an unenjoyable grind. The satisfaction of playing this game has dropped across the board - Google it. Diablo IV players are livid across Reddit, Twitter, etc. - as we should be. I would not recommend this game in it's current state.

First they messed up WoW, then Overwatch, and now Diablo. That was the final nail in the coffin. It's unbelievable. I refuse to support a company that doesn't care about making a good game and just makes changes that make everything worse.
Blizzard, I uninstalled Diablo and every other Blizzard game I had and I'm not going back. They lost a customer of years. My money Blizzard will no longer have.

All was going ok until the last patch where my glass cannon level 70 necro was suddenly a glass wimp, attacking with all the strength of a piece of wet lettuce. The latest patch is an absolute disgrace, slowing down and nerfing the entire game just to drag things out, I am assuming to try and cover for the fact that there really isn't anything exciting to do once you have finished the main campaign. Running the same 6 NM dungeons over and over is NOT fun. The graphics are amazing, the sound is some of the best I have ever experienced, and the main storyline was reasonable. But past level 50 the itemisation is rubbish, the UI is terrible, and there are so many "design" elements that have obviously put in place simply to slow down progression. I am sad to admit that I have now given up and won't even be playing Season 1. Such a shame, it had such great promise (on release and for the first week I would have given an 8, but after yesterday's patch (1.1) I stand by my 0)

Hey Bliz, here's an idea for you. If you want to encourage "engagement", make your game fun, not a pain in the ass slog that feels a lot more like work than fun. Here's some engagement for you though, after decades of reading metacritic, your 1.1 patch actually got me to create an account so I could do this review!

This game requires substantial time investment to play towards reaching end game content. The end content revolves around finding the best gear to reach Tier 100 nightmare dungeon and complete the Uber Lilith fight. Patch 1.1 has basically turned this already boring loop into an unbearable slog even with the upcoming S1 malignant heart buffs. Exp NERF was the final nail in the coffin for me.

    - I like they are adapting qualities from Path of Exile
+Very disappointed with this last patch, it seems they made everyone more squishy, more likely to be 1 shot, made leveling slower, made skills less effective, nerfed stats like vulnerable, critical strike, overpower, ect.
+seems like we are being rewarded less since the patch on things like helltide and dungeons. + kinda disappointed about how many legendary items there are for the game, I remember that was one of the goals to find the legendary items that were useful or at least valuable. I like most items dropped are class specific, but then you negate trading aspects, how am I going to trade the druid for the necro item?
+NO SET ITEMS? That was a super cool thing in diablo 2 set items get the whole set and get these extra attributes, cmon guys.
+What is the point of playing seasons if your cool perks/items/bonuses ect don't transfer to eternal?
+-+ Are you trying to make a game fun and interactive for the players?
+-+ Are you trying to 1UP your free game adversary (POE)Path of Exile, or just milk your audience for money with a in comparison **** competitor?
+-+ Path of Exile makes a really good game and seems to have the players in mind before making money, hence being a free game, and making good content. You have 20 years on them and you pull this 1.1 crap, shame on you.

I don't mention this to give weight to my perception, I mention this to give weight to my perception of the steady decline in quality and forks-given of Blizzard products.
I waited a decade for Diablo 3, did the midnight screening, took 3 days off work to play. Yes the launch was a cluster, and the story felt as retread as the new Star Trek movies, but it was fun, it was smooth, and it was a good finished product. Care went into the art direction, gameplay, sound and music, and the story.
I can't say any of that for this raging dumpster fire called Diablo $4. ("Diablo for Dollars", I like that, will probably use again)
Server crashes and server burps are annoying, yes. Blizzard cookie cutter style builds are annoying. Blizzard nerfbats are utterly stupid. The company is so focused on the "long game" they have forgotten how to make an enjoyable and smooth experience anymore.
The drama around "overpowered builds" is the biggest waste of time I have seen to date, because at the rate gamers are uninstalling the game, no one is going to be around to care.
When I say the "Blizzard polish" is lacking, what I meant to say is it is nonexistent. Some of sloppiest work I have seen, ever. Voice acting that doesn't match script. Some Enya-esque musical leprosy while fighting Uber Lilith. Horses are stagger and burp every, single, time, you, mount, up. Struggles to find stats that make the game even remotely fun to play, then grinding for hours to find no gear with stats you can use; and then not getting anything useful from salvaging your gear. A plot that barely pays lip service to perhaps the greatest corrupted love story in the Blizzard portfolio, and we're left with a pissy former archangel being petulant with the daughter of a Prime Evil and no meaningful insight or exposition as to what really happened, or what happened between them.
Speaking of lack, I know the Blizzard Original Thought Well ran dry a long time ago (just look at the decline in WoW expansions), but did you have to crib from Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, and Lost Ark?
There's an old saying: "to steal from one is plagiarism, to steal from many is research". What do you call it when you steal from many and manage to not be nearly as engaging or good as any of them? |
Frankly, as soon as I saw this, my first thought was, huh, so this is what Blizzard is going to try to use as a test bed for World of Warcraft 2. Then I thought, huh, this will be their last product before the Microsoft acquisition goes through. Maybe Microsoft can instill some actual pride in the work here, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
If you're a fanboy who wants to grind for days to be in the top .001%, this is the game for you.
If you want to play something casually, or enjoy the time you do have to put into gaming, go take a look at the Steam Summer Sale and support a studio that isn't coasting on its former glory.

The widespread criticism of D4 is entirely warranted. Balancing is one thing (and not what Blizzard was trying to achieve with the patch from hell), but nerfing the game into the ground is another. I don’t participate in things that reach a certain value proposition threshold - time v reward, enjoyment v frustration, effort v outcome. I uninstalled the game ten minutes after trying each of my classes post the patch. I waited to test them, because it’s important to react to reality rather than impression - but my suppositions were correct. I absolutely will not validate this kind of cynical behaviour, either in life or in the virtual world. When you take meritocracy and choice away and supplant it with ‘you must accept what we give you - and by the way, you won't enjoy it’, I walk away. So I will not add to their metrics by even logging into the launcher.

If this is remedied, I may check back - but I have little faith that Blizzard will address these out of touch nerfs, let alone the myriad of QOL, necessary fixes and missing aspects of the game that the fan base has been calling for since release.

The gameplay itself is very similar to Diablo immortal, which for a F2P mobile game was adequate - but for a triple A flagship title all I can say is Diablo 4 feels half baked and unpolished.

The "Skill Tree" is essentially a linear "choose one" skill selector, and the paragon board only gives an illusion of depth and diversity, which seriously detracts from the long term replayability of Diablo 4, which has always been the franchises strength. More than anything however - is that it just wasn't fun, even in the early access beta when everything was new and shiny it just felt like a boring version of any other generic low budget ARPG. I know comparing it to Diablo Immortal might come off as a slur, but it really does feel like the closest analogue in terms of feel and fun, and in some respects I think I liked Diablo Immortal better.

I'm sad to find that this game fell flat on it's face, as with any other game in the Diablo franchise I was looking forward to many years of at least casual engagement, but I found myself bored, uninterested and just not caring shockingly fast.

In preparation for this review, I ended up asking myself - would I play this game if it was F2P - and ultimately, no, this isn't worth even my time - I have better games to play, and just touching grass would be a more rewarding experience than spending a couple hours in Diablo 4. Considering this is a full price $70 (minimum) game with already oodles of premium add-ons, micro transactions, battle passes and more - I question how the standards of developers have slipped so far.

    - World bosses could be more challenging

70$ game, if you value your time at 1$ per hour, you get your money's worth and even more.

It has a good base but lacking in contents, complexity, longevity, endgame... nothing

Blizzard say that you can play the game single player no problem.. Then someone explain to me that why can you only get certain ingredients by doing world bosses. And that you can NOT do alone... You have to play with someone no matter what.

Well. I'm Necromancer lvl 73. I play since the open Beta. There has been 3 server stress tests. There has been a closed bêta 6 month ago. But none of these beta helped the server stability.

Early acess 02/06/23 : minor bugs, servers were working pretty well. I progress through the campaign with my friends and it went pretty well. But once we achieved endgame features, there's a lot of bugs.
Nightmare dungeons : bugged. You can't go in with friends because you will be desynchronised 1 dungeon out of 2.
Helltide : unplayable with lags. you'll die everytime you take a lag, and you'll lose your components.

Release date 06/06/23 : lags everytime. Permanent lags, so totally unplayable endgame features

    08/06/23 22h30 GMT+1 : Crash server. Can't play. Only 2 days since release.

Enough with server problems. There's also class balance problems. Barbarian is Godlike, rogue is too squishy (gets one shotted by almost everything), necromancer has literraly 0 mobility, druid is unkillable, and sorcerer is the only balanced class.

Let's talk about campaign : Act 1, 2, 3 ,4 and 5 are Star Wars Disney tier. Act 6 is a real masterpiece.
Campaign boss fights are for retarded ppl. they have 0 mechanics, they just have a ton of hp.
Only Lilith have a real boss fight. And Elias after the campaign will have a real boss fight too.

The Artistic Direction is perfect. that's why i give them 1 point.
Sound Design is good, but Lost Ark is better at it.

There's a lack of features in the UI. We can't see other player's profile. there's no statistics, can't watch playtime, there's no ladder.
There's no search bar for items in the stash. Gems take too much space

And there's a ton of other bugs, like sometimes you can't use any ability or dash. Sometimes the horse's pathfinding will totally bug. Cinematics will sometimes bug when you play with friends, only 1 in the group will the dialogues / cinematics.

There's no diversity in the bestiary and the dungeon bosses or in the decorations. All monsters are recycled with different color, and they are spread all over the entire map. Dungeons are procedural but you will see always the same monsters in them.
Dungeon Bosses are catastrophic. Distant / Mage bosses are retarded, they do no damage so you can just burst them with any build.
Melee Bosses are a nightmare, they run faster than you, have an attack speed higher than the light speed. So you almost can't kite them and if you don't play barbarian, druid or sorcerer frost you'll just instant die.

To sum up, this game is **** tier and doesn't deserve your money, let Blizzard sink.

The game is great up untill level 50 when it then feels too much of a chore due to the infinite scaling mechanics. With no offline mode it's also dissapointing to have connectivity issues and also to be forced in to participating in seasons.

Graphics are decent, along with the music and overall sound design. Story is enjoyable for the most part (though personally I found myself siding with the enemy more than the 'good guys' due to occasional poor character development and writing). Combat generally feels good, though there are some negatives I'll get into there later.

    The mediocre:

Stats and gearing are bloated, but otherwise this is a Diablo game, grind for better gear so you can grind for better gear, ad nauseum. If you like this, the game will be right up your alley, as you are always on the hunt for an upgrade for your character and it feels great to find the items you've been after. If you don't, no amount of hype will change that this game is designed for you to spend hundreds or thousands or hours to perfect your character.

The end-game before Season 1 can hardly be called an end-game. There are roughly 4 activities to partake in after finishing the story, and perhaps two of them are rewarding enough to bother with. I won't spoil what those activities are, but let's just say that all involve killing monsters or bosses and the rewards for some things are NOT worth your time, which leaves you with only two real things to bother doing with your time if you want to progress your character.

    The bad:

The horse. What the actual heck.... One of the most poorly-designed modes of transport in any game within the past ten years. If you've ever ridden a skateboard on nice smooth concrete, and managed to run over a small pebble at speed, you will know exactly what it feels like to use this mount. It collides with everything, be it person, bush, or single pixel of the corner you were attempting to navigate around. It has no intelligent pathing, and will try to move to your cursor, even it means screeching to an instant halt on a corner that you cut too narrowly. Need to dismount quickly to pick up an item, or climb up one of the many cliffs placed in your way? Well, now you get to wait 10 seconds before you can use the horse again. I appreciate that we can move across the map more quickly with the horse, but boy does it feel absolutely terrible to use.

The price. Blizzard expects you to pay a premium for this AAA title, but they are also treating it similarly to lower-priced or free games with paid seasonal content and battle-passes. I get it, profits are king, but it feels bad to pay full price for a game and then be expected to pump more money in every few months. You can't buy something from the shop for cash. Like many games, you are forced to buy in-game currency which 'conveniently' is purchased in amounts less than or greater than the 'cost' of digital goods in game. So, you are either forced to buy multiple smaller packages (at less discount) to buy your item, or you are forced to overspend on a larger package, where you will ultimately have left-over currency that can't be used to buy any items without spending additional money. Exploiting human psychology for profits is a sad look, and though I won't be purchasing anything from the in-game store, it still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

As it stands, the game is playable. Some may really enjoy it. Unfortunately, I'm in the low 80s on my main character now and I'm already bored to death. Perhaps Season 1 will bring some new life into the game, but as it stands now I can't give D4 much more than a 5/10. Boooooring.

Diablo 4 is an excellent ARPG. Probably the best I've played since Diablo 2. Personally, I wasn't that big a fan of D3, as it didn't seem to be a significant upgrade to D2, and there were a few mechanics with the marketplace and torment difficulty where I thought Blizzard really dropped the ball. D4 gets the all-important gameplay mostly right. It is challenging and rewarding. The advancement system is deep and thorough. The enemy encounters are much better than the previous games. Enemies have a variety of attacks that they can use, including telegraphed attacks that do large damage. There is also a flask system like Dark souls so you can't just spam endless potions. The end result of these changes is that it is actually important to avoid taking damage by making liberal use of the dodge feature, and the overall gameplay is more difficult and engaging, for the first half anyway.

There were a few downsides. This is very wordy for a Diablo game, especially with the huge number of sidequests, and the writing is of a much lesser quality than previous titles. After finishing a veteran mode playthrough I found the second half of the game to be face-roll easy, and the last act to be bloated with overlong cutscenes and cinematics. It would have benefitted from some fine-tuning and editing.

While it's not uncommon to see unkillable Barbs, Druids, Sorcerers pumping out massive AOE and single target damage. Necromancer struggles at both. I was really hopeful that I would spend hundreds if not thousands of hours with this game over the next few years. But the state Necromancer has launched in has destroyed all the hype I had for this game. Now I'm wondering if I'll even manage to stick around for the first season let alone the first expansion.
I leveled up a Barb and Rogue just to compare and confirm my suspicions and they were absolutely confirmed. Those characters were easily able to complete content my Necromancer struggled on and in the case of The Butcher my Necromancer was the only one to die. Bottom line it's a great game if you don't want to main Necromancer. However Necromancer is so bad and feels so lackluster in so many area I find myself wondering how much longer I really want to play. There is hope on the horizon though with Path of Exile 2 not to far off in the future. Maybe they'll give me the class fantasy Diablo 4 can't or won't.

You are pretty much doing 3 objectives, 1: kill all enemies to proceed, 2: kill the elites to proceed, an 3: release the prisoners. An after doing idk how many of those in a row just to go up 1 rank it just gets really boring! If I were to rate just the end game I would give it a 4. They really need to implement a new game plus system or something to allow the player to go back through the campaign on the higher tier systems. Because where this game shines is the main story! The writing is good the story animations are good an the boss fights are all top notch and all completely different from each other. Why you wouldn't want your players to play through that experience over an over again is beyond me! The devs really messed up on that part. If they were to fix that it would be a 10 out of 10. Expand

Title: A Triumph of Dark Fantasy: Diablo 4 - an Unforgettable Dive into a Grim World

    Review:

Diablo 4 is undeniably one of the most anticipated games of the past decade, and I am thrilled to say that it lives up to all expectations. The latest chapter in Blizzard Entertainment's legendary series not only surpasses its predecessors but also sets new standards for the action RPG genre.

Right from the beginning, Diablo 4 captivates with its deep and immersive story. You find yourself in a dark fantasy world steeped in darkness and chaos, bearing witness to an epic battle between good and evil. The meticulously crafted narrative comes alive through stunning cinematic scenes and top-notch voice acting, infusing depth and emotion into the characters.

The gameplay in Diablo 4 is on a whole new level compared to previous installments. Every strike, every spell cast with smooth and realistic animations, delivers a sense of power and satisfaction. The character progression system offers a vast array of abilities and combinations, allowing players to create unique heroes that align with their playstyle.

The world of Diablo 4 breathes with life. Each location, every corner, is infused with an atmosphere of darkness and terror. The diverse landscapes and intricately detailed environments immerse you in a realm of grim fantasy, where every step can be your last.

Diablo 4's multiplayer mode offers unparalleled opportunities for collaboration and competition. You can join forces with friends to take on mighty bosses, tackle challenging dungeons, or engage in thrilling PvP battles. The seamless online integration ensures a dynamic and engaging social experience.

Visually, Diablo 4 is a feast for the eyes. The graphics are stunning, with meticulous attention to detail, realistic lighting, and breathtaking visual effects. The art direction perfectly captures the dark and gritty aesthetic of the Diablo universe, enhancing the overall immersion.

Furthermore, the soundtrack of Diablo 4 is a masterpiece in its own right. The haunting melodies and epic orchestral compositions amplify the game's atmosphere, evoking a range of emotions from awe to spine-chilling dread.

In conclusion, Diablo 4 is a triumph that exceeds expectations on all fronts. It delivers an enthralling story, engaging gameplay, and a captivating world that will keep players hooked for countless hours. With its impeccable presentation and a wealth of content, Diablo 4 is poised to become a modern classic in the action RPG genre.

It’s a great game. It has the advantages of the existing hack and slash games and has a solid structure. I’m looking forward to the content that will be added in the season.

Easily blizzards best iteration of the diablo franchise since diablo 2. It has excellent sound effects, excellent in game lighting and an excellent exciting music score. As a person who did not like diablo 3 at all and has played diablo 2 for over 20 years now the game strikes a great balance of both previous games and is a worthy successor(finally) to diablo 2. The game has plenty to do and makes a great base for the diablo devs to expand upon. The team at blizzard has done a great job keeping the game up during both early access launch and world wide release. I didn't even get a single disconnect during either of those times. Also since its a "live service" game they are constantly making changes ever few days. This is a first in the franchise for that type of attention and service and blizzard seems to be holding up their end of the bargain to bring the game to life. Time will tell if they can maintain that level of attention over the long haul but its off to a good start. Also with as much as they are promoting the game in creative ways its easy to see they are really "all in" with this game and want to see it succeed here. I cant wait to see what the diablo 4 devs bring us next with seasons and leader boards coming shortly.

Game is currently being review bombed here and it 100 percent doesn't deserve that. The game for me is a easy 10/10. Caveat being you will enjoy this game alot more if you enjoyed diablo 2 over diablo 3.

I'm new to the Diablo series. So far, I have about 20 hours in on Diablo 4, plus the open beta and server slam weekends. I've also played Diablo 2 resurrected a little, but nowhere near as much.

I've personally loved my time in Sanctuary so far. I do have some criticisms, but the game is solid and enjoyable. The game is beautiful on Series X. The music, voice acting, and sound design

I've personally loved my time in Sanctuary so far. I do have some criticisms, but the game is solid and enjoyable. The game is beautiful on Series X. The music, voice acting, and sound design are phenomenal. I've also found myself more invested in the story and characters than I would have expected. The combat feels excellent for the most part, and finding a build that works for you and then refining it to be even better is very satisfying. Running into and teaming up with players in the overworld is fun, but running into another player is rare enough that it feels kind of special.

I've had minimal technical issues. Twice I've had server problems that were resolved within an hour, and once I had an odd latency issue where my character's actions were lagging behind my controller inputs. It lasted a couple of minutes, and then it resolved itself. In an age where so many AAA games launch in a completely broken state, for me, at least, Diablo IV has presented minimal technical issues.

My one criticism is that the dungeons get repetitive on a visual level. The overworld is beautiful and varied, but there are four basic variations on the dungeons. It would have been nice if they had the same level of variety and detail as the overworld. The cellars are even more repetitious but also very brief, so it doesn't come as close to feeling like a chore.

Some people will find the combat repetitious, and make no mistake, it is. I find it repetitious, like a bowl of ice cream is repetitious; every bite tastes the same, but it's still enjoyable.
Some people will also criticize the existence of microtransactions. Yeah, they are there, and they are stupidly expensive. They are also limited to cosmetics and are not advertised anywhere beyond the store tab that you have to navigate to manually. It's not like other games that push ads for microtransactions as soon as you press start.
    Summary
Overall this is a solid game with minor technical issues that I have hardly impacted my ability to play the game. I love the overworld and the sense of exploration, but the dungeons can sometimes be repetitive and bland. The combat repetition may eventually bother me, but if it does, I can always mix it up by creating another character of a different class. Microtransactions (and expensive) are present but not heavily pushed right now.

It’s cosmetic and doesn’t affect the gameplay at all so who cares? Yes battle passes are crap but what MMO doesn’t use them now? If you even remotely enjoy Diablo series this is best one yet. Expand

I bought the Ultimate Diablo 4 version and I finished the game on World Tier 2 difficulty in around 30 hours, trying to do as much as possible on the first run.

    World / video:
Diablo 4’s open world is a masive, beautiful and dark gothic one, reflected in the art style, the story, and more subtly, through the entire gameplay. It is how Diablo 2 would have been like if the necessary technological means would have been available at that time. I often stopped the fight just to observe the beautiful details of scenery or of a delerict dungeon populated with all kind of torture devices and decesed victims.

    Gameplay:
The general gameplay loop in Diablo 4 goes like: kill demons, loot, head to town and repeat. This goes for dungeons, events, side quests, and everything else. It is an addictive loop that any Diablo fan should know well. The most important thing about the combat is that it feels impactful and with the addition of the good synergy between the skills, the monster level scaling and the meaningful boss mechanics it is simply chalenging and great.

    Sound:
Every sound is nice and precisely located in the mix. From the background music to the crunches of the wood and the clatters of the chests opening, to the dungeons sounds that feel claustrophic and expansive in equal measure.

    Story:
Diablo 4's story revolves around Lilith, the demoness responsible for the creation of Sanctuary. She proves to be a complex character, utterly stealing the show in what already sports a truly formidable cast.

    Diablo 4 shop:
The Shop offers only cosmetic items that are purchased with Platinum, which is Diablo 4's premium currency that can be bought with real world money. The are NO pay to win mehanics or features that can be bought.

    Conclusion:
I consider Diablo 4 a masterpiece of the Hack and Slash gendre, limited only by the gendre itself in terms of what it has to offer.

It is worth unvesting you time and money because Blizzard did it right this time!

Diablo IV is the perfect evolution of the series. The many new features make for a truly modern title, giving us an experience capable of keeping us glued to the controller for many hours, without neglecting the historical and most beloved features of the series. If we add to this a technical aspect of the highest quality, a very accessible multiplayer structure, and a huge end-game, we obtain a majestic title that stands as the best exponent of the action-RPG genre and is capable of bringing us plenty of emotions.

Diablo IV is a social phenomenon and once again sets a new standard for the genre. It's a dark, spooky, action-packed experience. Combat is frantic, fluid and fun, while micro-management of resources and inventory feels better than ever before.

Diablo IV is the culmination of everything Blizzard has set up before to make one ultimate experience. The world is stunning, drowned in a beautiful soundtrack that makes even the smallest moments feel epic. With a deep character system, satisfying combat and an endgame that feels like only the start of your adventure, it's hard not to recommend. Dig in, experiment with classes, fight some demons and loot some dungeons. You won’t regret it.
