Don't listen to the zoomers trying to review bomb this game. It is indeed a great game, much better than D3 at the time of release. Is it perfect? No, there's definitely room for improvement, but people giving this game less than 7 are most likely just entitled teenagers with attention span that doesn't last more than 30 seconds.

My first day of the game was fine, played an entire session no disconnects or lag at all. I managed to reach the last quest of campaign and then got booted out three times in a row as I was about to finish the quest.

Now upon hitting level 50 it seems as though the game is just determined to prevent me from actually finishing a single quest. I get disconnected every single time I get to the last portion of boss health or kill the last enemy, lag out and simply do not get the reward. This would be fine, I can live with side quests and the like as their rewards are menial anyway.

But how, after several months of testing, can there still be a game breaking bug in the capstone dungeon to allow the player to progress to past veteran tier? Of the 10 attempts at this dungeon before contemplating throwing the console and controller out the window, my first 4 saw the boss de-spawn as he hit the last quarter of health bar, no way to exit the instance besides disconnecting from the server and relaunching the game.

The remaining attempts saw me make it to the boss 5 out of 6 times, only to just flat out be disconnected after a 5 second freeze.

Again, if this were checkpointed like all the other campaign quests then this wouldn't be as much of an issue. However, you need to restart the entire instance, along with the pre-boss each time, and it is vital to complete to progress the game. Abysmal design from Blizz here, but I don't know why the hell I expected any different, its becoming a track record for them.

I'm still finding rare items more powerful than unique items, and since i can't progress my world tier I guess I'll continue to do so... Deep customisation? Crunchy visceral combat that you can feel? I can't believe I bought into all that nonsense. Game launches without set items. Quite frankly I don't expect to pay £70 for a game to still be beta testing it post release. I have no idea why this trend of releasing broken games that are required to be constantly online, yet consistently fail to do so, has taken off in recent years, but if it continues in this fashion then its the beginning of the end for gaming.

I cannot recommend this game in its current state and have no intentions of buying any Blizz games at launch again, ever.

If you're a sorcerer, you're going to be running frost nova, flame shield, and ice armor on any sorceress build. There are only three endgame viable builds for the sorceress also: arc lash, ice shards, and fire wall. Forget using frozen orb, fire ball, charged bolts, chain lightning, or blizzard. They are just too weak. The enchantment system on the sorceress is just wildly unbalanced also. You'll be running fire bolt just to burn things so that you do more damage to them on any build. Some other big issues are the fact that monster scaling feels bad, item level requirements constantly increase as you level, and the quality of life is horrid. Monsters scaling makes it so that you never really feel powerful. The monsters are always increasing in difficulty as you level. It makes it so that you can play with friends of all levels, but it comes at a big cost. You'll see your level 10 friends killing things faster than you. You also lose out on the sense of power progression that you get from other ARPGs. Item level requirements that constantly increase feel terrible. The game basically has three tiers of items. Sacred and ancestral items come with set level requirements, but then they continue to scale up to your level when dropped. This feels bad as items I am finding now all have a level 85 requirement on them even though they are not more powerful than items I was finding at level 60. The item level requirement scaling makes trading rares terrible, gearing alt characters almost impossible, and it ruins being able to give friends rare items that would be good for them. My other big issue with the game is the lack of quality of life. It feels like they just rushed the game out after the campaign was polished and they threw in some endgame activities. The game lacks basic features like being able to search in your stash and having a place to store your gems. It also lacks social features like being able to talk in a global channel or being able to queue up for group activities. There is no loot filter either, so finding upgrades at higher levels becomes extremely tedious. You also have to run to nightmare dungeons, but a fix for that is supposedly coming within a few weeks. Overall, Diablo 4 just isn't worth the money right now. The campaign is okay, but ARPGs are known for their replayability at endgame. Diablo 4 completely misses the mark in this area due to the reasons above. I would recommend that you wait to purchase this game for probably a year or so. They may address some of the bigger issues by then. Expand

Maybe you don't like the art style or the story or the combat and class design but a 0 means absolutely nothing when you are clearly kicking and screaming like a child, usually about something tiny, and acting like Blizz harmed you.
Now i can see someone thinking the same about my score, that i am artificially praising the game but this is my rating based on my time with the game. 10 does not mean perfection but i would still call this a masterpiece. My only qualm with the game thus far is the lack of offline mode. This is primarily because i prefer playing solo in most games and also i don't have to worry about the servers being up. Every other aspect of the game draws me in. From the outset, i actually enjoy the story far more than previous Diablo games (i will admit i have never really paid attention to the previous stories) partly because of the excellent cinematics and also the surprisingly good voice acting that isn't hammy like D2 and 3. Lillith is an interesting antagonist since she is not simply evil for evil's sake.
Aesthetically, the graphics are wonderfully detailed, even when zoomed in, and the art feels much more in line with D1 and 2. When all the particles and various character and enemy animations are popping off everywhere, it is not only stunning but the frame rate stays solid through all of it, keeping the controller input feeling responsive. But even more than the graphics, the voice acting and monster sounds (which are generally great) aside, the music is not only beautiful but perfectly suited to the game's rather somber and mournful tone.
However, while these aspects enhance the experience, none of it would matter if the gameplay sucked. Obviously, this is where the highest amount of subjectiveness in a review comes into play. To say that the classes and combat feel somewhat like a combination of D2 and 3 would not be too much of a stretch. D4 uses the more streamlined and dedicated builds of D2 in tandem with D3's encouragement to experiment with moves constantly. Each class feels very distinct and has multiple ways to specialize or use a more hybrid approach. In my opinion, the thing that draws me in to D4's combat so much is that they shirked the uber arcade-y feeling of D3 and made it much more visceral and strategic. The addition of a dash for every class is such a simple yet compelling tactical choice. Even with the former turret like combat of the sorcerer class, i now find myself moving frequently, particularly during boss fights. Having moves like Frozen Orb that require proper positioning and timing to utilize most effectively keeps me engaged much more even with basic trash mobs. I am also very pleased that they set a hard leveling cap of 100 as this helps to give a better sense of character "completion" than D3.
Lastly, the sheer amount of content in the world is astounding, especially for a day 1 release. The map is littered with dungeons, crafting materials, world events, big group boss fights, and side quests. The smaller quests in this game aren't exactly Witcher 3 level of depth but they are much better than the average open world game and have a good amount of variety to them. I never feel bored while travelling the world, there is always something new to entice me to keep playing. The content is where i can see a lot of people's mileage with the game varying as a lot of it is there merely for the joy of exploration, the prospect of more combat engagement, and that wonderful green check mark on the map to feel you completed something.

One note about the microtransactions, which i see a lot of people **** about. Yes, they are there day one but they are tucked away, not pasted blatantly on the start screen and this game is absolutely complete at purchase, especially considering how huge the game is. The items for sale are ONLY cosmetic and provide no gameplay boosts to leveling speed, gearing, etc. Why must people cry about this? Don't buy anything and the game is still the same as everyone else's experience. All these whiners are acting like Blizzard locked key game features or boosts behind a pay wall. Get over over yourself.

Ultimately, while i love the game for all the things i described, the real reason behind my 10 is that i have had nothing but fun since i started it, and when i am away from the game, it is stuck in my head like an earworm. When i get held up at a boss fight, i have enjoyed changing up my tactics and coming at it from a different angle. The leveling speed and gear drops are at just the right level, especially compared to D3 where there were just thousands of meaningless legendary drops. D4 is easily my GotY, which is completely unexpected for me as i thought Tears of the Kingdom would be the easy king.

You can tell who hasnt played much D2 by the type of complaints they make about D4. its comical. Complaining about grinding/builds/end game content is pretty silly if you liked D2 and played 300 hours or something. People making these complaints are full of it. All mechanics are already known from other games. Nothing innovative here. I had fun playing this game until Level 60-70. But after that it gets boring. The progression system is similar to the Diablo 3 system where you just do Greater Rifts to level up your gems and get paragon points. The game in its actual state does have a lot of potential because of its nice combatsystem and graphics. If blizzard would change the endgamesystem similar to poe and do innovative stuff like last epoch, this game and its community would love it. Also in its actual state there are a lot of technical teething problems. - Barricades in a open world game which hinders players to ride through it.
    - low mobdensity
    - backtracking affixes in nightmaredungeons
    - missing endgame bosses and an interesting progression system
    - multiple missing QOL features such as geminventory, clunky horseriding turbo, less stashtabs, missing overlay map, no trading, dealers in towns are far away from each other, traveltimes are too high for nightmaredungeons.

All in all this game has a good base but with a lot of air upward.

Sure, Diablo 4 has its problems, but let's remember that the game has only been on the market for a month. Diablo 3 was realistically playable only after many months of patches and fixes. Path of Exile, which is considered a holy grail for some people, has been on the market for 10 years and still has its issues despite such a long time for the game's development. Season 1 hasn't even started, and there are already complaints about the endgame being lackluster. In my opinion, we need to give the developers time and credit.

As for the argument that it's a waste of money because you lose interest after completing the story, come on, people. The story alone provides dozens of hours of fun if someone doesn't rush through it and takes the time to explore the world. The game is worth the full price for the campaign alone, and the seasons, future updates, and expansions can make it the coolest HC game on the market.

Diablo IV is the perfect evolution of the series. The many new features make for a truly modern title, giving us an experience capable of keeping us glued to the controller for many hours, without neglecting the historical and most beloved features of the series. If we add to this a technical aspect of the highest quality, a very accessible multiplayer structure, and a huge end-game, we obtain a majestic title that stands as the best exponent of the action-RPG genre and is capable of bringing us plenty of emotions.

Diablo IV is the culmination of everything Blizzard has set up before to make one ultimate experience. The world is stunning, drowned in a beautiful soundtrack that makes even the smallest moments feel epic. With a deep character system, satisfying combat and an endgame that feels like only the start of your adventure, it's hard not to recommend. Dig in, experiment with classes, fight some demons and loot some dungeons. You won’t regret it.
