Firstly I never give a review score of 0 or 1 just because I do not like a game. But this is broken so I can only give a 0 as I can't play it.

Paid nearly £80 to play the prologue. Now I get 'Manhattan content not ready. Time to download 63 hours'

    WHAT IS THIS BS?

In 30 years of playing computer games I have never experienced such a colossal f*** up!

    Thanks Ubisoft.

Secondly as someone who initially found the game to be a combination of Destiny and Borderlands which it is it also has Skyrim level customization. Honestly you need to spend at least 10 hours with this game to ever really get what it is trying to do. Having said that this game is fantastic, a huge step in the right direction! People complain about enemies taking too many hits, well honestly they have not spent much time with the game then and tried out all the various weapons and mods you can use. I felt that way too until I picked up a classic M44 Marksman rifle and started dropping enemies with a single head shot. I think many people find the amount of variation and customization this game offers a little daunting at first, I know I did for sure. The ability to run solo, or with friends or strangers for that matter is done very well. This is one that if you just dismiss it as some Destiny spin off and throw it aside you will honestly be missing out, seriously, give this game a chance because it is a true 10! Expand

    History: 7/10 good.

Mobile gaming is now infecting consoles and pc's and the division is representative of it. Do you enjoy repeating the same task over and over again in the same environment for little to no reward? Do you enjoy grinding out 'daily' missions to earn currency to obtain things slightly better than what you had. Does the idea of a game with no story, no variety, no intelligent AI, or no real sense getting anywhere appeal?

I could be describing farmville OR the division.

    Don't buy it.

Does everything right and does everything well! The amount of content on offer even in vanilla form blows pretty much every other AAA recent release out of the water! The grind for the best gear will keep you here for many, many more hours and the upcoming paid and free expansions will ensure longevity. You will get your money's worth and then some! Best game I have played in a very long time!

Nothing that would be considered game stopping except I have been trapped twice now requiring a quit but enough that it interferes with the immersion of one into the game.
Second, the game is clearly confusing. If you download this game you will soon find yourself scouring the internet for information on how/why things work; the tutorial is atrocious.
Third, the menu system is a disaster as well as the combat menu system (grenades...enough said).
Fourth, it is a pure looting game yet the loot is so uninspiring you will literally end up purchasing your equipment instead of hunt for it and is again, another indicator this game was rushed. You can see they aimed high on many other aspects but the one's that are the foundation of the game, the basis and mechanics of a 3PS are all show little to no love whatsoever.
Finally, the most unforgivable atrocity that, to me, killed off the above average enjoyment of this game. They literally Donkey Kong'ed the game with individual bosses! At the end of missions, they ALL look the same. If it's a sniper, they all look the same. If he's one of the garbage guys, yep same size, same outfit, etc. All that's different is the name...and that is just so said. A complete amateur move from a supposed professional gaming company. Really a let down.
All said and done, it's barely worth the price, barely ($10 lower it really should be) and it is enjoyable but be forewarned...you will need lots of time to not only advance but to understand the game in it's entirety.

Second the bad: The controls for the most part are good however the grenade controls are confusing making it very difficult to use them. The missions could use many more checkpoints because a few times I have died at the end of a level only to have to repeat the entire level. This leads to another problem, once you start a mission, if you don't complete it you will have to start from the beginning regardless of the checkpoints next time you log in to the game. This means you would be foolish to play this game unless you can set a couple hours aside. The multiplayer has yet to work for me but for the most part the game is fine played single-player.

There is so much potential with this game and franchise and with a couple fixes this could be a game of the year contender.

As you uncover more of the story you start fighting against tougher enemies and the objectives start to change a bit. It still suffers from the majority of the missions being similar but I will say the game is a lot of fun once you've settled in.

Story as you expect from Tom Clancy games is pretty good. The shooting controls feel just fine for a 3rd person shooter, with the option of going 1st person using scopes. You can mod weapons, collect gear, change your appearance and build up your skills.

Matchmaking makes the game a lot of fun, and I recommend putting it on harder difficulty settings cause it's too easy on normal. The map isn't too big but it's big enough. But you should know this is the very definition of a cover shooter. You even have abilities that let you create cover. Taking a lot of hits will kill you very fast, but if you use cover and use your abilities optimally you won't encounter too much difficulty.

All in all it's a fun game to play with some friends... but I would recommend maybe waiting for it to go on sale or wait till they add more content. It isn't breaking new ground but it's not completely unoriginal. It's good, not great but good.

Ubisoft's reputation for repetition will only get worse thanks to this game. It sucks cause their games are visually impressive and they're well designed too. I just wish they would put a little more creativity into the objectives.

My opinion of The Division is nothing short of "Bravo!". This review is heavily biased to how many awesome notes the game gets, but I do have a few gripes that'll be posted at the bottom. There's four sections: Graphics, Gameplay, Story, PVP. Enjoy!

GRAPHICS are great (go youtube/twitch for your viewing pleasure). The environment is desolate, but not hopeless nor empty - plenty of birds, rats, dogs and bystanders running amok to add to the immersion factor.

The summon map is nice, but it's like any other map that you'd have to unfold and read, which takes you out of immersion. Other HUD accessories are nice to have, but turning it all of is a great way to admire the scenery (or go hardcore RPing) . Seriously, is the Xbox one, the great game engine/console hardware present you with a wonderfully rendered crisis situation that's nice to look at.

GAMEPLAY is a complex issue, but sufficed to say it's well-balanced. Game/reality expectations are met with respect to weapon-handling and character movement - I never feel like the models to slow or unrealistically fast. The game's tempo for combat is very well-paced, it's hectic but not frenetic (IE: not like COD PVP); so, tactical choices of falling back and pushing forward become veritable choices of fate. The control scheme is simplified (IE: A is for cover + double tapping makes you roll; while B moves you vertically when interacting with objects), but the main staples (IE: LT=aim, RT=shoot) are present.

AI tactics/difficulty are a big issue for some, but really it's pretty exemplary; should be a standard for all enemy AI. They respond differently according to whatever faction they're with - looters and hoodlums are brash or cowardly versus ex-military that are more tactical and will continue to drive you back (depending on their number or your own sit-rep).

The problem people have with the AI simmers down to assessing mission difficulty, which lies with the player and not the game itself - I'll save you the trouble: Each mission becomes progressively harder - IE: a level 5 regular mission is cheesecake compared to level 8 regular mission so maybe DON'T dial the difficulty up. Levels do have a great effect with respect to damage mitigation and damage bonus so a level 15 NPC will wipe the floor with you if you're below level 13. Also, enemies get armour bonuses on higher difficulties so that'll be an added challenge as well.

The STORY is compelling enough to convince you to invest your time and efforts into this virtual crisis. Characters are well-acted and voiced, while audio is pleasing (IE: rats skitter, dogs bark, people cry and bicker, winds howl and bullets whizz, whine and go bang). Albeit, the story arc is wide open so you could technically advance past a plot point without even knowing - reviewing ECHOs, evidence and other recordings will help you understand WTF actually happened. Seriously, after the title screen, you make your character, do a few side missions and then BOOM... welcome to hell.

PVP. In this game, it is like a Heavyweight championship bout. Two teams meet and one team goes home crying. PVP takes place in the darkzone, which is a lawless, contaminated urban jungle, filled with alleyways, subway tunnels, scaffolding and tons of varying sized automobiles.

Albeit, the Darkzone (DZ) is only "lawless", meaning that anything goes - depends on the people you meet in the DZ (IE: neutrals or rogues). By far, your biggest problem would be the other Division Agents (DA); however, the NPC's are armoured and difficult too so keep your guard up.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You can change DZ's by exiting to the "vanilla" city and then re-entering the Darkzone through an entry point or checkpoint; thereby ridding you of pesky trolls...temporarily.

Did you notice how I classified the other DA's? That's because you shouldn't trust ANYONE in the DZ (only your friends or trusted gaming buddies). Neutrals are exactly as named, but Rogues are rough customers - basically land Pirates that'll rob, pillage and plunder others for loot, infamy (DZ Rank - obtained by killing anything in the DZ) and money (same principle as DZ Rank).

Sufficed to say, traversing the Darkzone with friends is highly advised - lone wolfs are the first to be targeted. As for actual PVP fighting - it's very enjoyable. Lag has not been a big issue and PVP combat is smooth; it promotes squad based combat so you'll get more out of this with friends or squadmates.

    GRIPES/Complaints/Problems

    - Some weapons have delay (IE: shotguns) when readying (swapping to said weapon) and when aiming down the sight.

    - Loot in randomized so you may have to wait a bit to find the weapon you want - armour isn't an issue as you can re-roll stats. Take comfort though, this isn't as bad as the RGN in Destiny.

    - Most objects are non-movable/indestructible. I was stuck between a desk and two office chairs. Another time, a chest-high u-shaped hill of garbage trapped me while i was chased by rogues

I shouldn't have to make any decisions or press any buttons when it's ready for me to be paired up with people, it should be automatic like in Destiny. Apparently there's a crafting option in the game, but I have no idea how to use it (or where it is in the menu). I guess the game expects me to just aimlessly figure it out, which would be fine if I were a 19 year old kid with no job, but I have a life and I don't have time to aimlessly search around for it. Ubisoft desperately needed to add a lengthy "hot to play" tutorial, because I feel lost quite a bit in the game. For example, when you first arrive in Manhattan, the gun salesman is out in the open and easy to find, but for the life of me, I can't find the salesman for the other stuff. I seached the safe area for over 30 minutes, and I still couldn't find him (or her). Also, I find the matchmaking strange and unbalanced. In Destiny the game just automatically does the matchmaking for you, but in the Division, I find that I have to almost play a mini-game in order to get my team put together. I still don't fully understand how the matchmaking works. I'm supposed to be paired with four players, but I only ever seem to get paired with one other guy. Playing the Division with only one person on your team is insanely hard too, good luck getting anything accomplished with only a two man fireteam. All in all, the Division could be a great game, but it's a little too confusing for those of us who don't have 50+ hours to play/learn it. I found Destiny to be very easy to learn and master, whereas the Division is not user friendly in the least. Expand

If you play as a group this is one of the best games released thus far. Had a whale of a time so far! Really fun and fresh and the darkzone is awesome!

The Division doesn't try to be another Destiny, it defines itself in the details and offers a much larger and certainly more interesting world than its obvious contender. No question about it - The Division is much more of an RPG than Destiny will probably ever be without radical overhauls to that game. No question about it - The Division is much more of an RPG than Destiny will probably ever be without radical overhauls to that game. With so much to do from day one, it will take most players weeks or months to max out their characters and, even if they do max out quickly, there's the very competitive Dark Zone where you and your friends can try to fight for more impressive gear. While players might find the story a bit distant for the first several hours of gameplay, knocking out main story missions and engaging in bits of filler story scattered throughout Manhattan will quickly begin to paint a picture. Of course, players that stray a bit might find themselves trying to remember why they're out doing some seemingly-random tasks. The biggest opportunities for improvement lie in The Division's cover system, which usually functions well but has a few quirky glitches now and then that might frustrate you in a moment of combat. Where Destiny wants you to replay every single mission over and over to push forward as a player, The Division is built to be progressed through a story that isn't told through heavy repetitive missions. In fact, you'll never be encouraged to replay a mission unless you found it fun or need to recap what's going on with the story in that specific mission. Otherwise there are always new missions to play through until the very end (level 30 at launch). Graphics are solid, albeit not quite as impressive as they were three years ago when the game launched. This is unfortunate since the Snowdrop engine being used by Ubisoft is very powerful. Though we don't get the greatest visual experience on Xbox One, the visuals are still strong - especially when you consider this is a massive world. Even things like heavy snowfall and fog can play a vital role in visibility in some cases. Perhaps the most encouraging news is that Ubisoft isn't pressing for your hard-earned cash right away. The first few minor DLC packs will be free, with a pair of major DLC expansions that will really stretch the game - all within The Division's first year. Where Destiny is a bumbling mess when it comes to the long-game, The Division is much more strategic and engaging right from the get-go. If you can appreciate the third-person shooter viewpoint and dig open worlds that encourage social engagement then The Division is worth a try. Expand

The beta was good enough to make me pre-order the full game but I wasn't 100% convinced that the full game would be enjoyable. The full game is great. The map is much bigger than I thought it would be and there is loads to do. The DARK ZONE is great fun. Can't wait to get to level 30 and start the end game stuff.

Ubisoft hasn't built a title like this before, and the inexperience clearly shows – The Division seems to be a victim of its ambitions. The good news is that now, games can be updated, and the flaws in the system aren't so thick that they're beyond repair. With proper attention, Ubisoft could easily pivot the game towards the vision it represents. We can only hope that The Division's long-term story is just beginning.

A generous, rewarding shooter with some of the best multiplayer gunplay on Xbox. [May 2016, p.80]

We have a huge city at our disposal, many hours of fun and possibilities of replaying the game either alone or with friends. The Division has become the best-selling Ubisoft IP in the first 24 hours and we are not surprised, it gives freedom to the players and offers them the opportunity to explore this post-apocaliptic world.
