Not too bad. My biggest complaint is the lack of single player, this game would have been sweet and a 9 or 10 with a single player campaign.
I'm older so my twitch factor isn't what it used to be, these guys are roasting me repeatedly. Single player would have given me more enjoyment but as far as multiplayer fps goes, this is the best one that I've ever played.

Excellent game makes fps fun again. By the end of MW3 i was starting to get sick of cod and Black ops 2 finished things for me so i started playing battlefield. Infintely more enjoyable but in the end still quite boring. Ive been playing this kind of game since wolfenstein and doom so its hard to stay enthusiastic when nothing has really changed apart from the graphics and the context. Ive been playing this kind of game since wolfenstein and doom so its hard to stay enthusiastic when nothing has really changed apart from the graphics and the context. A few games have made a decent effort to advance the genre into new territory with unique game mechanics, most notably the halo and crysis games, but its always been needing a massive kick up the arse to freshen things up instead of the constant identiclone attempts at grabbing more of your cash with some new guns and maps nailed on to the same archaic blueprint. Titanfall IS that massive kick up the arse, believe the hype. While i wouldnt encourage anyone to rush out and buy an xbox one just to play this, as i would not for any game however good it may be, if you already own one or a 360 or a pc and you like games you really must get titanfall. This game is worth every single penny and then some. I could repeat everyting said here already but you really cannot understand until you have played it. if your not prepared to take a leap of faith go and play it at a friends, play it at your local gaming shop, play a demo just play it somehow and you will see. If you listen to all these idiotic haters and PS fanboys and give it a miss you are depriving yourself of one of the most unique and enjoyable gaming experiences ever. I have been gaming for over 25 years on every system ever invented this is a game you dont want to miss Expand

Great Game... more complex as you go! I would love a campaign as an Easter present, but the game is legit as is. I am convinced any ratings below 5 have to be Play Station fan boys trying to kill the momentum of xbox. When you look at all of the games that deserve a 1-6 it is laughable to put this game in that category. Flat out crazy.

If you do not like online multi-player games, then this game is not for you. I can't stress that enough!

Its a straight up 6 vs 6 fast paced, high action multiplayer. For those worried that there is no depth to the game, there will be free DLC coming, along with the normal pay DLC.

This is a great game. One of the most fun games I have picked up and played in years. Never even been a real FPS fan. I rated a little higher because I feel most of the low scores are PS4 owners who HAVE NOT played this game and are rating it low out of jealousy. It's getting ridiculous.

Titanfall is a brilliantly new way of rejuvenating a tired genre. The game play was as much fun as I hoped and well balanced. Most of negative reviews on here are most likely from PS4 fanboys trying to bring down the score. As a person who owns both next gen consoles and the under rated Wii U I don't understand why people feel the need to be so pathetic.

Fact is, this game is amazing. But I can understand that you will either love it or hate it, as it is a game that is very casual which of course is not for everyone. But I can understand that you will either love it or hate it, as it is a game that is very casual which of course is not for everyone. The second fact is that every single person who has rated this game a zero is a PS4 fan who is desperate to bring down the review score, as NO game that is as bug free as Titanfall is as I am sorry but a game is not bad just because you don't like the concept of it. Nobody should have rated this game a zero, as it is well made and polished. Now, this game is very fast paced, smooth, twitchy, and fluent. People who are worried about replayability will not be disappointed as far as I can see, as you are constantly unlocking things and finding out new things about each map the more that you play them, that mean that you will destroy your opponents in game modes like CTF as nobody else will know how on earth you got where you were and then you are on the final straight to the end because of it, while everyone else has no clue how to chase you. Chasing. This game is amazing because of that single word. That moment when you are sprinting and start to get shot and you know that you cannot win the gunfight, so you initiate a wall run and the chase starts. Last night me and another guy had a chase that lasted at least 30 seconds, and we didn't touch the floor once, and then I jumped up one wall and started to wall hang and watched the other guy continue on because he didn't see me, so I just killed him. This was just absolutely phenomenal. Moments like that make a game, and there are so many of those moments as you play. People are complaining about the game being overpriced for a multiplayer only game, but the problem is that you knew what you were buying and the fact is that you spend maybe four hours on the campaign and 100 hours on the multiplayer, meaning that devs put in a whole lot of effort for not much reward, and there is only a minority of people who actually bother with campaigns. This game is worth the money as I can assure you that you will enjoy this game if you put a bit of time into it to understand all of the mechanics. People who rate it low because they think that it is COD with mechs also have played the game for no more than 15 minutes. This is the same thing as your dad watching over your shoulder as you play and claiming that all of the games look the same as you are behind a gun in all of them. The fact is, if you play it then you realise how the mechanics differ from other games. This game is different, fun, and a very enjoyable experience that you won't get annoyed with, and I know I will be coming back to this game in years to come, much like I do with COD 4, and claim that I wish fps games are like they used to be. Buy it now. Expand

When starting the campaign i thought I was in the multiplayer section they stick you in a lobby with other people and your actions don't really effect the story at all you fell like your just a better thinking AI.
Win or lose you still go on to the next chapter no matter what.
The voice acting wile not terrible feels a bit lack luster.
The next gen graphics don't really hold up to the hipe they told us it would be.

    Final thoughts:
Is the game terrible no its a fun fast pace Sci-fi action game with a lot going for it and a lot of potential. If you like call of duty then you will fell right at home of you like fighting in giant robot with guns then you'll like this game.

Right away I will say this game deserves a 9 out of 10. The "Campaign" isn't really a campaign as it is just some half assed dialogue thrown into a normal multiplayer experience in Titanfall. I have not played every game mode but I really enjoy the multiplayer, and in my opinion, it is much more fun than Call of Duty and Battlefield 4. There are about 10 pilot weapons that you can unlock and use, the shotgun is a bit overpowered but I will not complain as I cannot do any better than they can. The Titans are extremely balanced, Pilots can destroy Titans, Titans can kill Pilots and Titans can kill Titans, simple. There are no micro transactions and there is no Day one DLC either. The game is simple to pick up and play, I can tell Respawn was going for that approach. There is also framerate and screen tearing issues on the Xbox one version of the game.

    Cons:
    -Overpowered Shotgun
    -Lacking Campaign

    Pros:
    -Amazing balancing
-Titans are cool in their own part
    -Very addicting Multiplayer
-The game is accessible for anyone

The parkour isn't overdone and everything you do is intuitive. While the limited selection of guns gets a bit tiring after playing for a while, the game would get overly complicated if there were a CoD-like selection. The different kits provide for some customization past the guns. Fighting a pilot as a pilot does sometimes get confusing if the battle is at close range, with both players parkouring around trying to jump kick each other, but it can be forgiven if you look at the epic totally free form sequences that result when rodeoing titans. Playing as a titan makes you feel powerful, as though you, as a 20 foot tall battle robot can completely turn the tide of battle. While titan battles on a lower level can often result in two mechs standing in front of each other while seeing who can off the most missiles in before they're shields are destroyed, experienced players fighting each other can really feel like combat on the huge scale the game simulates. With both titans dashing around to dodge attacks and playing catch with nukes combat is truly amazing. Even with the powerful titans at both teams' command, the only time titans will every seem overpowered is if you're the only pilot not in a one. Again, the customization is a bit slim, often making unlocking another loadout just feel like an excuse to have the option to play with the Hemlock, even though you hate it, or to equip that kit that seems useful but you really don't like to use it. Almost all aspects of combat, however, are totally free and and are a nice change from the worse traditional shooter formula. Probably my biggest problem with this game is the campaign. It offers the same great gameplay as the classic multiplayer, but every map and mission is strung together by a piecemeal and confusing storyline. The second to last mission feels like it should be the end of the playable story, but then you have to play another mission that almost feels like a tacked-on excuse to make the mission selector a 3 by 3 grid. Probably the only good thing about the story is that is provides an "introduction" to the familiar game modes in provides, namely TDM (Attrition) and Domination (Hardpoint Control). One of the most annoying things about the whole thing is that in order to unlock the Strider chassis for your titan, you have to beat the campaign twice. The classic gameplay is a break from all this, however, and it provides a few original game modes for you to try. While Respawn botched the campaign, the gameplay makes you put all that aside and play this thankfully original FPS. And if you want to write a review for this game, please make sure you play it first instead of judging it by its story and the fact that it "can't be original because if you want a game to be original, you have to invent a genre". And if you suddenly decide that the game will have microtransations that will ruin the whole thing, Respawn has pretty much pledged on their honor as a developer that the game will never include microtransactions. Oh, and make sure you actually play the game before you decide it deserves a 0. Expand

I love this game. I haven't had this much fun with a multiplayer shooter since Halo 3. It doesn't bother me that there isn't a real campaign mode, which explains my high rating. Obviously there is the Titans on which you call down and can either control from the inside, or run on foot and have it follow you or guard a certain area. But the downsides are this game requires a big download, and also is only online. Even the campaign. Worth the 60$? Not really, but if it were $30 totally worth it. Expand

I do wish you could jump on top of buildings with your titan, but that's not a big deal. Controls are tight, and responsive. If your a fan of Call of Duty you will like this game. There are a lot of Call of Duty...esque features when it comes to multiplayer. Challenges, loadouts, unlocking weapons/perks at certain levels, and of course prestige leveling. All fun things to do, but honestly......I'm tired of it. Should these things have been left out? Of course not! I just would have liked to see some more originality. Other than that multiplayer is FUN! However the biggest reason I marked this game down was because of the absence of a real single player campaign. After playing through both sides I still have no idea what is going on, and I could care less about either faction. That in my opinion is a complete failure.....how can you expect people to latch onto or care about this new universe/franchise when we have absolutely no clue what's going on! Just throwing in cool robots isn't enough....there needs to be a history if you want to captivate people and get them invested. If you like multiplayer you will like this game. However if your looking for a solid story/campaign you will be severely disappointed! Expand

I enjoy every single type of game released on these platforms, a good game is a good game. Some genres I enjoy more than others, but I am your average, but well versed, all around gamer).

This game is great! But there are some real solid reasons why it is not a 10 non of which have anything to do with game play. If I were an investor I would be drooling over the potential this has of being the next big "Call of Duty" type franchise. Yes I am aware of who helped develop this title, but don't let that fool you. I'm an optimist at my core but let's be real, there is no shortage of hype around this title so I will save what you already know until the end. The bad: For me, it's all been visual based. I find the levels cool but there are some recylcled visual elements from COD Black Ops 2 that I could quickly pick out which to me reduces the value of a game. DEVELOPERS when you recycle, just mod the item so I cannot recognize it or think I've seen it somewhere else. It's kind of like securing the body of a car to the frame with string or duct tape, it looks cheap and it pisses off gamers. Also, the levels themselves seem very similar, so much that I get them mixed up even after a solid 2 days of play time. More could have been done to make this a more visually stunning game. If the game weren't a ton of fun, unique, and so easy to adapt to I would have rated it less. But as a fairly big fan of COD since COD 4, dissapointed with the re-packaging and overpricing of COD ( a successful format that I believe has truly lead to the decline in the overall quality and risk taking in gaming ) this one truly fills the void. I love that you can crush, smash, stomp, and throw your enemies from a Titan, with gore! However I would have loved to see more reactive impacts (bullet holes, inflicted damage, realism), basically a greater visual realism for a fantasy game. Some may complain about the simplicity of the weapon loadouts and features but I argue in a new release this is a strength. It's not like it's another modern or recent past FPS game that is looking to compete with COD and needs to reinvent the wheel and format. We have a solid format with a fairly unique game. So I agree (if this is the strategy) with not making it too complex. There is so much to learn about the game, game play, and bad ass features that it is nice being able to jump in to an easily adaptable and simple control. Believe me, many games have mad controls over complex to add challenge. I find that format only adds frustration. It is a breath of fresh air not having to learn new controls and being able to adapt, excel, and enjoy this awesome FPS! I've hear references to this game becomming boring. I just completed my 2nd prestige and going. I enjoy it so much I have not even turned on my COD Ghosts to see the new maps and it's what 2 weeks later? Also only on my 2nd prestige with COD Ghosts, where as this time last year I had already 10th prestige...

The only reason I didn't give it a 10 was because of the match making and menu stuff is a bit weird. I'm not even sure if I can play with my buddies or not.

I was put in matches with players 47 levels higher than me who must have had a ton of unlocks or something because I never stood a chance. Getting one shot by other players really isn't that great of a time. Every game that I played in was a total loss. There were players on the other team in attrition mode that had 100 points themselves. I really expected more out of this generation of FPS games. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Full of advantageous features that relatively quickly become a disadvantage to the Titanfall Title. This is one of the easiest games to pick up and play. You will be wall running through the maps wielding guns reminiscent of the halo series while blasting both the AI and human opponents. The ease of the gameplay in ways feels rewarding but there is no sense of accomplishment. Which many people are sure to say, why would I feel a sense of accomplishment from a video game. And for those people this does not apply. But. The majority of people that can achieve this feeling while playing a video game are sure to be let down. The weapons are well balanced. But even this can quickly add to the population of boringville. There just is not enough weapons nor weapon customizations. The graphics are pretty good for being such an early next gen console game. It is nice to be able to play a next gen fps without all of the technical problems the others are currently having. But at a certain point, it is not enough. The audio is ok but there is nothing special about it. In a way, this game feels like a throwback to counterstrike that somehow got bred with Halo. It is a fun game to play but very quickly you will have nothing to unlock and nothing to master. I suggest playing the demo/beta first. Understand that this demo/beta is the game up to level 14. And that if you are bored of the demo after a couple of hours, you are already bored with the full title. What about those burn cards? Playing matches awards in game enhancements that are called burn cards. These enhancements range from upgraded weapons to wearing suits that make you appear like an AI character (my favorite). Before a match you can equip three burn cards you have previously received. These three cards are the only cards you will be able to use during that round. You can have a maximum of 26 cards in your inventory at which point you will no longer receive cards that are awarded to you. For some reason it doesn't feel like 26 is enough cards but If you were to not receive any cards for the next nine games, you would be able to use 3 cards a game for 8 games and one game with only two. This would make any rational person realize that this IS enough cards. But i can not be led to feel this way. I instead feel that this one part of the game where excess could be easily rationalized is brought to nearly the same level as the weapon selection. Would it be easy to give us more cards to select from? Yes. Would it make most people happier to have more cards to choose from? Yes. Would you still only be able to bring 3 cards to every game? Yes. Would a larger card cap possibly prevent premature balding from pulling your hair out when you complete a hard challenge that rewards rare cards that you won't even get the option to see, let alone give you the option to replace cards from your current inventory. Yes. Would it give anyone a huge advantage? No. So I have a hard time seeing why this 26 card cap is in place. There is another part of this game that would make this review incomplete if not mentioned. That part or concoction of mechanical parts Hammond Robotics has fictionally put together... the Titans. There are three Titans to choose from. You have the light weight, easy to maneuver and lightly armored, the mid weight, not too sluggish, not too fast medium armor, and the heavy weight, sluggish, I hate to run in gym class with heavy armor. There are a limited selection of weapons for the titans also. Some even void of upgrade options. The mechs... oops... absolutely original Titans are well integrated into the game. You will be jumping in/on/over/under them in no time. As well as controlling them to take out your opponents. But to be clear, you do NOT have to control your Titan. You can put it in guard or follow mode and let the AI take control while you fend off attacking enemies. Overall this game is well put together and fun to play but it is not the game changer we were promised. Expand

A lot of people say it is like call of duty, and to be honest it is very similar, but I personally have always been a fan of the call of duty franchise and this game is a slight upgrade in gameplay. However the game extremely lacks in contact, While having a large map count, the amount of customization is quiet disappointing. For being a multiplayer only game I would have expected more than about 10 weapons, half of them being awful compared to the others. There is a low perk count and even the weapons themselves have almost no attachments to chose from. Having an extreme lack of content, but having great gameplay, which is very important, I give this a 7. I would sadly probably still play call of duty over this game because it has more content. Is this game worth buying xbox1? Yes, because you should already own one and this game is free if you buy one. Is it worth $60? Personally yes, I have already put over 24 hours into the game and that makes me feel happy about spending $60 Expand

Firstly let me address some of the criticisms that have been levelled at Titanfall.

A lot has been said about the lack of game modes, whilst the options initially where quite limited they where all fun and incredibly well balanced and worked well.
Since release Extra game modes have been added on a rotation system starting with the quite fun Marked for death, where one player on each team is marked as a target and everyone elses goal is to hunt them down.
They have also added some variety pack options just like cod which cycle game modes. Also they have enabled and improved private lobby’s.
All of this has been done with free updates along with a ton of minor tweaks and bug fixes based on community feedback.
Seeing as lack of game modes and private lobby’s have been some of the biggest criticisms I thought that was worth mentioning.

Now a lot has been said as well about the lacklustre campaign and I’ll agree a proper campaign would have been nice but for me it’s more about what is there rather then what’s not.
And make no mistake what is there is some of the most ridiculously fun and inventive multiplayer I have played in a long time. Titans are awesome and the pilots parkour skills really do add whole new dimensions to the tired cod formula.
I love COD a lot. However even I have become jaded with how repetitive it has become as a whole.
Let me tell you right now the words tired, repetitive or boring have no place in the Titanfall dictionary. The controls are silky smooth and the frame rate is solid, I have yet to experience any lag, slow down, screen tearing or noticeable frame rate dips as some players have reported.

The Pilot movement mechanics are simple and easy to pick up while quite literally adding a whole new dimension to the traditional cod formula. Sprinting along walls, double jumping through windows whilst exploring the huge multi tiered maps is some of the most exciting gameplay I have experienced in an online shooter. Ever. Strategically you have a whole new world of map exploration, flanking tactics and general sneakiness to explore. Whilst the movement mechanics are definitely a breath of fresh air in an increasingly stale genre the underlying shooting mechanics are as well balanced and precise as any iteration of cod has managed. Which is to be expected seeing as most of the major players in Titan Fall also worked on Cod 4 Modern warfare.

All of this before you even call down your giant metal buddy from the sky for some titan based mayhem. Oh the titans!
I can not understate just how much fun it is climbing in to your titan and causing mayhem across the large and varied map offerings.
What really impresses is how said titans never feel like they unbalance the core gameplay, it all works so well and is so finely balanced that titan on titan combat or pilot on titan or pilot and titan vs titan combat is never les then exhilarating.

Want to stomp around the map launching homing missiles and squashing puny pilots under your giant metal feet, go for it. Want your titan to guard a choke point or hard point, you got it. Want the freedom to wall run and double jump around the map with your titan watching your back from the ground, feel free.

The combination of titan and pilot load outs, whilst not reaching the dizzying variety of options as say Black Ops 2 are all finely tuned and well balanced to cater for a variety of different play styles.

Stealth, run and gun, cautious and tactical? However you like to play Titan fall can accommodate.

Nothing quite compares to the first time you beat an enemy titan to near death and then reach out ripping the lifeless pilot from his cockpit to be discarded like a broken toy.

    Verdict

Titan fall is a good looking if not mind blowing shooter with excellent and refreshing movement mechanics, well thought out and challenging map design and an overall air of polish, precision and importantly well balanced gameplay.
No matter how you choose to play, Titanfall will entertain, challenge and engage in a way that many long time cod fans (myself included) have been waiting for.

Titanfall may not reinvent the wheel when it comes to online shooters but it definitely adds Four wheel drive.

What are you waiting for Pilot! Prepare for Titanfall.

The first few hours were good, but then i realised that there was little to no guns at all, with very scarce customisation options, 3 scopes a silencer and extended mags, was not all the attachments I was expecting to be restricted to. The titans at first seem like they are powerful, but the anti-titan guns are very overpowered, and the titans aren't very reliable at all. Compared to battlefield, another of EA's games, the gameplay and gun play feel like they lack anything interesting. When I bought it for nearly £60, I have not played it for weeks, and that is an example of how unenjoyable the game is. Sure, they have nice graphics, but not NEXT-GEN graphics, I was really disappointed with this game

Titanfall is a very good game! The maps are great, the connection is perfect, the gameplay is very good and fluid, my criticism of the game is due to lack of weapon choices and balancing bad team, not to mention the achievements that are poorly made and sold an incomplete game without all the maps (I know who wants to buy, but it's slutty put the achievements of DLCs to spoil your 1000G)

Disappointing game. Lacks true single player campaign. The visuals are good and the game actions are fluid enough. The one true downfall (pun intended) is repetition. And the creators try to mask this with the illusion of a pre-mission story. If you like that kind of stuff, then this might be worth it for you. Not for me.

I thought Titanfall was a well crafted game, but it still had it's flaws. The pilot gameplay was great, I had a great time traversing the maps. The titan combat on the other hand got old quick. And I got a bit upset to see a lack of story mode, the game needed one.

The game for me was a dopamine rush. It gets fast paced and exciting like no other game I have played. Now for the downfall. The gameplay is one of the best ive ever seen, however it drys out on you after a while. Every game can dry out on you after a while but Titanfall felt like it dried, not quick, but moderately. I think this is partly due to the lack of content in this game. It gives you only one game mode to play and that is online against other players. I mean wheres the single player campaign, the co-op, not too mention the multiplayer campaign is not captivating or worth paying attention to. They have introduced this revolutionary gameplay yet it lacks content and its hard to justify the price tag on this game. My final thoughts. Titanfall definitely has a revolutionary gameplay and gamers that are wiling to be creative with the gameplay will thrive in this game. However, its lacking content in a single player campaign, co-op, etc.

They have released a survival mode update for Titanfall and it is decent. Going back to my thoughts earlier in this review, this survival mode should of been here since day one.

It struck me at first when I caught myself grinning with a kind of bloated satisfaction, that I really like this game.
Seeing XP pop up on the screen wasn't all that novel when it started showing up years ago, so "what's so different about this game?" I found myself wondering. Long story short, it's the different ways in which Titanfall rewards you for doing awesome things.
Killing other players, referred to in game as Pilots, is one thing, but dropping your metal friend from the skies and watching him crush an enemy Titan, is another breed of satisfaction. Pursuing a retreating Pilot over the walls of the city, double jumping from building to building as you slowly gain more and more speed, before delivering a deadly jump kick to the head...
It is these moments, completely unscripted and unconstrained that can (and will) take place anywhere at anytime that make Titanfall feel like a shooters equivalent to opening the windows on the first day of spring after a long, long winter. It is a complete and utter breath of fresh air.

The gameplay is fast, frantic and fun. It combines elements that really shouldn't work together in amazing ways. Core shooting mechanics from a well made twitch shooter, just without the insta-death. Jetpacks and parkour that makes traversing the map quick and seamless, and of course, mech-shooter mechanics with the incredible Titans.

Visually Titanfall is not the prettiest game on the block, but it can definitely hold it's own with a steady 60fps on the Xbox One and detailed textures throughout the almost 20 maps.

The game is purely multiplayer, and is divided into only 6 modes, ranging from your standard TDM and Domination, to Last Titan Standing, which as the name implies, makes you try and keep your Titan alive.
There is a "campaign" in the game, but it merely consists of 9 multiplayer matches that feature some voice overs and video recordings of people who are apparently important.
It was a bit of an oversight to include some kind of story while the match is taking place as it is essential to focus on what you are doing.
A few pages of back story explaining why the two factions are at war would have sufficed to say the least.

One of the things that came to my attention after but a few matches, was that Titanfall does a great job at making you feel like you contributing to the team and doing well, even if you end up in the middle of the leaderboards. It didn't take me long until I was bringing in a few MVP medals, but even if that hadn't been the case, it felt good just playing support for the team and hanging back in defense.

At the end of every match the losing faction will have a chance to escape from the map. A time of 30 seconds starts and a drop ship swoops down to pick up any remaining players. However, any surviving members of the winning faction can also make their way to the Evac zone, and take out the drop ship and/or as many players as they see running for their lives.
These moments were both fun and tense, as the respawns are deactivated.
Being on the winning faction and punching an attempted escapee out of the air in your Titan feels great, but being part of the losing faction and ejecting out of your Titan just in time to jump into the drop ship before jumping to lightspeed and seeing both the battlefield and planet disappear behind you feels amazing.

Titanfall is an utter triumph. It's addictive as hell, and it's the first game in a long time that has utterly sucked me in and has not yet let me go.
Is it the "CoD killer" or the "next big thing"? Only time will tell. But as long as Titanfall maintains a loyal fan base, as well as the already promised addition of new game modes and map packs, the game and potential series may have a bright future ahead of itself.

    A 9 out of 10.

The only few gripes I have with this game is as many know there is no single player/co-op, when you are in the lobby if the majority of players there are several missions behind yourself, the game will replay a story mission you have already completed, which for me got extremely tedious because I had to replay "there be dragons" chapter 3 times over. And with only a few hours under my belt it has already become quite stagnant and repetitive. Being that there is no single player campaign, there is also no persuasion, storyline, lore, characters, or compelling element to make you play for longer. Not a bad game but not a great one either. The sheer amount of activity in the background, the context driven narrative, the theater of it all combines with the smooth player movement to give it a really good first look. But after several games, it wears a bit thin. It's still a lot of fun, still very novel and innovative. But for a game that hitched its wagon to multiplayer and refused to give us single-player, they make a lot of simple mistakes.

It borrows from the Battlefield format with the hardpoints and vehicular combat, but when each map only has 3 hardpoints in a triangular or linear alignment, your tactical/teamwork approaches are very limited. And it's very easy for a highly skilled player to easily fend off attackers all day. Similar to battlefield, the AI grunts are unbelievably slow and stupid. The map is simply crawling with grunts/specters/militia and they never pose a threat to pilots, I can't remember the last time one of them killed me. And it's really a lost opportunity. I would have much preferred a combat system where AI troops move around the map in force and players are forced to use ambushes, long range strikes, or other clever tactics to take out the AI. Then the PvP moments could be much more visceral traditional multiplayer. But alas, players simply mow down the AI bots by the dozen and in the attrition matchups I can spend the entire match just killing bots and ignoring players with the players only offer 4 points and the bots offer 1, and a bot is more than four times easier to kill than a player. Everything from the bots' oohing and ahhing about you as a pilot, to their pitiful combat skills, to their warnings about a pilot in the area just seem like it's there to boost your ego without adding to the gameplay. The inability to issue commands or interact with the bots at all is also a big let down, and taking the time to hack/convert an enemy bot takes five times as long as it would take to just kill it. It would be great to have bot squads or general orders to order. If you have two hardpoints, maybe the bots shouldn't be rushing in to die at the third hardpoint.

As fun as it is to double jump and wall-run around the map, I don't know that it makes for good gameplay. Sniping is almost impossible and is never worth the time. You'll waste 3 minutes getting to your sniper nest, waiting for someone to show up, and then you'll probably miss, meanwhile each of the guys on the ground have gotten 10 more bot kills on the scoreboard.

Attrition mode is boring mode, and as soon as attrition mode comes on the voice chatter goes silent. There's no strategy in a mass deathmatch. Unfortunately that's how a lot of the game modes feel. Last titan standing, marked for death, etc. all lack any viable team strategy. It's really just best to gang up in a group and unleash a lot of firepower on the target. Players can hack turrets for their side, but these provide only a slight advantage and are far too few to really swing any mission. There's ample room to add more interesting interactive elements like capturing a mortar battery, hacking a system that interferes with the enemy bots, disabling enemy comms, etc.

Having only three titan classes in a game called "Titanfall" is a bit disappointing. Sure they have customizable weapons and secondary abilities, but they just aren't different enough to make a big difference in the game. I would loved to have seen more variety, including artillery titans, smaller exoskeletons that augment the infantry combat, or even flying titans that would change the dimensions of the battlefield.

Finally, the maps just don't feel that different. The views are amazing and I love the campaign voiceovers. But in the end the maps play second-fiddle to whatever the objective is. And unlike Battlefield 1942 where one might have to assault a beach leading to a village next to an airfield, the maps just look shiny and devoid of real content. Atmospheric conditions are few and far between, with just a camera shake momentarily when a cannon fires somewhere. And the campaign characters are always referencing infiltration teams or boarding crews, but we as the player are always just stuck on the battlefield when such special ops moments would really offer a solid change of pace.

Titanfall is a fun game, and it looks amazing. I like having an integrated campaign, but it's too short and doesn't have the replayability of Enemy Territory or Battlefield. It also defaults too readily to the heroic good guys and the evil bad guys. The Aussie IMC commander slaughters civilians while the militia commander sacrifices himself for the good of the cause. I would have liked to see them muddy the waters a bit more on that one. All in all, worth the money, but less than it might have been.

This is what next-gen is about. I have completely enjoyed this game beyond belief. I though it would be good from the beta but not this good. That's why I didn't give this a 10 out of 10 but everything else about this game is beautiful. This is the reason I got a xbox one instead of a PS4. Also DirectX 12 will bring this the X1 to a whole other level! Can't wait for titanfall 2 :D Expand

This reminds me a lot about old, fast-paced FPS, I really have lots and lots of fun in this game. Of course the graphics could be better, of course we can nag about the fact there are 'only' many weapons instead of milions of them, but none of this matters since this game is the first FPS since UT that gives me tons of pure fun. Best FPS ever, ignore the Sony fan girl's reviews they're just hating. At first I hated the bots but now it's part of the strategy. It takes skill to tell the difference between the pilots and bots and when to shoot at the bots or let them be. Honestly I would normally probably give this a 9 but the haters made me bump it up one.

I'll start out by saying that I really REALLY don't enjoy playing COD online. All the perks and unlocks just favour those who are able to spend all day and night on the game. Yes you can get your prestige, sorry I mean "generation" up as high as you like.. but the basic gear is all so well balanced that even a newbie on rank 1 can hand you a smack down. The titans too are great for this.. EVERYONE gets a go, no camping a spawn point to get a killstreak here.. just play the game and you get a massive toy to play with.

For me there is no comparison, Titanfall is the best multiplayer FPS I've played since the original counterstrike 1.6. Ok so the modes are a bit limited but that doesn't bother me at all as I find a lot of games have hardly anyone playing most modes, all it does is split the player base up further.

I do miss the world building provided by single player as its a great universe with a lot of potential, but given the terrible single player modes of all the recent COD / BFs I'm quite happy to go elsewhere for that.

I was disappointed that the recent patch reduced XP gain from actually following objectives.. this was a great plus for me as it gave players an incentive to actually try and defend a hardpoint or capture a flag rather than just kill stuff. I'm hopeful they will revert at least some of this change.

I know player numbers were also looked down on but I find that 6v6 is a really good balancing point. I'll agree the AI is a bit dozy at times but even that has its good points as the AI soldiers really make you feel part of a bigger battle.

Overall I'm happy to say that Titanfall is a great game, I'm actually looking forward to the DLC for a change but will wait on a season pass till I see the quality of the content (Dead Rising 3, I'm looking at you here!!)

On a 100-point scale this game gets an 87. Plot is a little weak, as is campaign mode (unlike Halo, which crafted an involved universe), so I gave it a 13-point reduction. I play on PC with a very capable rig (yes, its an overclocked 6-core 1055t with a 750 GTX card...runs it on Ultra at around 55 FPS) and I have no complaints about the graphics--smooth as butter on my system. The gameplay is a mix of Mirror's Edge, Halo and Hawken, three games very close to my heart. Gameplay is fun, but the game in its current stage can be repetitive. I have purchased the season pass for an extra 20-spot so I am looking forward to some extensive DLC in the future. For right now, this definitely hits my sweet spot...although if you really want a "mech shooter" experience go with Hawken (it's better for that type of thing than Titanfall, and its currently F2P!). I picked up Titanfall a day after it was released and have been playing it for about a month now. Between the high mobility offered and the mixture of Titan combat, this game is definitely a refreshing break from the usual first person shooters offered. The Titans that are available offer a simple trinity. The Ogre is the big slow one. It can take more damage but is pretty sluggish. Between the high mobility offered and the mixture of Titan combat, this game is definitely a refreshing break from the usual first person shooters offered. The Titans that are available offer a simple trinity. The Ogre is the big slow one. It can take more damage but is pretty sluggish. The Stryder is the opposite, offering increased mobility at the expense of durability. The Atlas falls somewhere between the two, a jack of all trades. All three are balanced and I didn't find that one held the advantage over the other two. Infantry combat is a different matter. Maybe it was just me but I found that the standard R-101C was a little overpowered. It's almost too versatile. If you learn to control the miniscule amount of recoil it has it's basically a laser beam. I could beat snipers at long range with my higher rate of fire. Beat an SMG up close with my increased damage. After using all of the guns I found the Carbine is really the only one you need. Makes the gunplay pretty dull and predictable. All the maps are good and diverse, they all fall between Call of Duty and Battlefield sized. Good amount of game modes, but I was kind of disappointed when I found out the standard mode, Attrition, is just a matter of who kills the most bots. Then I went and played Pilot Hunter, which is your standard TDM and for some reason didn't have as much fun. Killing bots and players is kind of fun actually, almost reminds me of some kind of FPS MOBA game. The game also offers "burn cards". You earn them based on how well you do in a game. The better you do the more you get. Then you can take three into each match. They're basically a perk that only lasts for a life. So you pick one on the respawn screen, an amped R101C for example, which is just a better version of the gun and you get to keep it until you die.Card goes away, you can pick another on your next life, etc. I'm not too fond of this system and found myself just ignoring this feature entirely. I think it would have been better if I could just pick one that lasts all game despite deaths. The game offers your standard challenges, Get kills with this gun, win 30 games, etc. The game also offers 10 generations, "9 prestiges" basically. Hit level 50, go to Gen 2. Hit 50 again, go to Gen 3. On each Gen you get extra exp, which I appreciate. Gen 2 has 110% exp, Gen 3 has 120% exp, so on. I also like that Respawn integrated challenges with each Generation. So for example, on Gen 3, in order to go to Gen 4, I've got to complete the C.A.R. SMG challenges, complete the Plama Railgun (a Titan weapon) challenges, and complete a Satchel Charge (C4) challenge. Overall the game is refreshing, but there are certainly flaws. After the charm wears off, it doesn't feel like there's a whole lot of depth. I think there's a lot of potential in a game like this and hopefully Respawn will continue to develop the franchise and improve on this formula. Expand

Aside from a few minor quibbles (I can jump across streets and hop over entire buildings, but a knee-high window ledge is insanely finicky to get past?) Titanfall is undoubtedly a great game which does an exceptional job of breathing new life into an increasingly-stale genre.

An intensely fun multiplayer game that is accessible and fun for everyone. Not perfect, but that's what sequels are for.

A spectacular and superbly crafted, if traditional, shooter. [May 2014, p.71]
