Visuals/sounds of course are amazing everything looks, sounds and feels like you are coming out of the movies in amazing detail. stormtroopers die and fall over in ways you remember you react to environment around you without impeding your play it's fantastic
Common gripes are because of the no story and it's repetitive. First i want to remind this is a reboot and the first battlefront also didnt have a story. Second me and a friend who love playing the old battlefront together have played alot of the new battlefronts missions. The battles and survival modes are alot of fun even playing them continuously and we've enjoyed these modes alot more then we enjoyed the story or normal battles itself.
I also want to point out that the original battlefront was bare bones compared to the newest one. Both battlefront one and two had one main mode where you captured command posts it was alot of fun and i played it alot but it was repetitive. They did add things in two like the jawas vs tusken raiders but the overall mode was the same. This reboot battlefront has several modes all playing very different and all very fun.
Another common complaint is no space battles ,again i'd like to point out as a reboot this is even with battlefront 1. Despite this unlike battlefront one they have an amazing replacement. Fighter squadron is a specific mode just for dogfights through the amazing detailed maps. As fun as space combat was in the original the actual battles was the same thing every time. What i enjoyed about it was the dogfights and this mode perfectly fills that void and more.
The game isnt prefect a lack of planets that even battlefront 1 had hurts. also it's not meant for fans of high skill multiplayer shooters. This is definitely meant for casual fun in star wars worlds.

This game by no means deserves a 0-4 this game never promised to be a high skill game for cs:go players. It has alot more modes then the originals each of which are more enjoyable then the original mode. It does suffer from the lack of an era in the wars though thats probably do to the internet hating the prequels in every other regard but battlefront and the game is still alot of fun. No campaign is a bummer but this is meant as a reboot not a 3rd game and battlefront 1 didnt have campaign either. Despite this the missions and survival playing solo or with a friend more then makes up for it. The fun of space battles have been capitalized and improve in fighter squadron. Despite what people may try and tell you this isnt a battlefield reskin. I'm not a big fan of battlefield and went into battlefront expecting it to be a reskin and was thankfully proven wrong. I dont ever feel like i'm playing battlefield the movement, vehicle controls, gameplay are all different and feel that way.
This game is a solid great take on the franchise and im already pouring alot of hours into it. Take of your nostalgia glasses take a hard look at the modes and gameplay of the original and this is easily a vast improvement. Real score is about a 8 going to give it a 9 though to help this stupid system of giving a game a 0 or a 3.

I find the game fun, but I am a sucker for anything Star Wars, especially when the visuals are some the best I've seen. However, if you are not a Star Wars nut like me, I would avoid this game at all costs, there is just not enough here, content wise, or gameplay wise.

I gave the game an 8, because like I said, I'm a sucker for Star Wars, and have spent 55 hours playing so far, but for the average hardcore gamer this game would be a 5... sadly.

I have been a DICE Battlefield fan since BC1 all the way up to BF4 placing in the top 50 for BC2 and BF3. That said I cant even fathom why DICE would only have 4 maps for the premier game mode Walker Assault. Its the only game mode I like and my friends like, so I spent $60 on 4 maps.
Could you imagine the uproar if DICE released only 4 maps for Conquest and Rush on the next Battlefield

I don't know what they were thinking, but the game should have been released for $40 not $60. Ea should slash the season pass price in half for this rip off. Graphics and sound are amazing but replaying 4 maps over and over with a broken party system just doesn't cut it.

I don't buy shooters of this nature for the campaign. SP, in these games, serves only as a brief diversion in which to get a feel for the weapons, compared to the MP heart of the game. Compare a brief 8 hours put into BF4 campaign compared to 800 hours played in MP mode. 100:1 MP to SP. No brain-er. A REALLY GOOD GAME!
The low scores are not justified. I read a (rather lengthy) user review below that gave it a zero, but also admitted not playing the game and based the score on a 5 minute trailer.

Bottom line this game is just pure fun, you just pick up and play. It doesn't have the customization of Battlefield (which 85% of the unlocks never get used anyway) nor the twitch shooting mechanics of Call of Duty (if this is what you were expecting this isn't the game for you). It doesn't have the customization of Battlefield (which 85% of the unlocks never get used anyway) nor the twitch shooting mechanics of Call of Duty (if this is what you were expecting this isn't the game for you). Battles actually feel like battles where a group of troopers can be trading fire with a group of rebels and it's fun and intense. Walker Assault and Supremacy only have 4 maps but they are huge well designed maps, the smaller game modes have many more which are also designed well. The customization is limited but it is a star wars game after all. One thing no one mentions is that this game actually has split screen co-op and is a blast to play with your child or a sibling. Survival is fun and can get pretty hectic through the final rounds. The spawns can be hectic sometimes but that seems to be a problem in most games these days *cough halo 5 cough.

If you don't remember what Battlefront 2 was actually like please stop comparing this game to it for it feels exactly the same as the old ones. Yes there is no space battles but there is Fighter Squadron mode, no there aren't any classes but gamers these days can't seem to grasp how to use a class system and never drop health and ammo anyway (look at bf4). And you can't call BF2 campaign a campaign, it was a rotation of conquest mode with audio laid over top. If you want that just load up a single player battle and repeat the 4 missions a few times until you've felt you've won.

This game is geared towards a more casual audience, it's not for the hardcore but can be if you let it.

Perhaps people don’t like to enjoy things for what they are anymore. But this reviewer would argue to enjoy everything in it’s place. Not every game needs to be played hundreds of hours to be enjoyed. I slapped down $13 to watch The Force Awakens on Dec. 18th. That will be complete in 2 hours. $60 for something I’ll enjoy for 40+ hours sounds fine to me, and the first 10 hours have been indicative of a worthwhile game.

Some of the users that rated it under 8 wouldn't know a good game if it slapped them in the face and it's obnoxious. I've played almost all the modes by myself and I love them, can't imagine how fun it'll be with a team. Thanks to the holograms placed on the maps, gameplay becomes more varied, so we don't have to be a grunt all the time during a single battle. We can pilot an X-Wing or TIE Fighter, an AT-ST or AT-AT, or even become a hero, such as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo and more.

On the bad side, there's a lack of content, maybe reserved for the announced DLCs. Only 6 heroes, only two starfighters for the Empire, three for the rebels (and only two for the fighter mode). There are 4 worlds with several maps on each (Jakku is coming in a couple of weeks), but their marked environments feel like all the maps on the same planet are the same map.

This is a great game and one I have waited over 10 years for. Please give this game a chance and play with friends, because that is when a bulk of the fun begins. The replay value with friends will be great as new maps are added. One last comment on the maps, they are amazing and I found myself continuing to find new paths and places to hide and use to my advantage. We have not discovered all the unique gems of the game.

Finally, lets not under report how stable the launch has been. I played several online games on DAY1 and had ZERO server issues on PS4. When was the last game to launch with such a stable online environment???? COD Black ops III has had multiple server outages and issues that ruined my ability to play online in week one. DICE has done a great job preparing for launch and making one of their best stable games to date!!

A lot of haters writing reviews and giving negative scores for really odd reasons. But here's one that gets to the important stuff.

-THIS IS NOT BATTLEFRONT 3 from a decade ago. A lot of negative reviews harp on this point. That game had two predecessors and years for the developer to build on their engine. This is a great start for EA in Battlefront universe and all of those features people are whining about not having that was supposed to be in 3 may come about down the road in the franchise but the lack of features that were in development for a game that never came out in 2008 doesn't take anything away from this game and is well worth your investment.
-Controls are smooth and responsive, flight takes a little getting used to but once you get it it's so much fun. This game features the best Star Wars flying experience since Rouge Squadron.
-Visuals are beautiful EA DICE went above and beyond with their modeling one of the best looking games for this console generation thus far.
-Sound is absolutely amazing. This is what really factors into the immersion I mentioned earlier. From laser blasts to the sound of a tie-fighter's engine they absolutely nailed it.
-The lack of a single player campaign is somewhat disappointing, but they are various single player missions available to help you get used to the controls. These missions are fun and can be challenging. I still haven't mastered the speeder bike yet though. I just wish there were more of them.
-Maps are designed reasonably well again just wish there were more of them. There will be plenty of DLC around for this game but it's pretty expensive. I chose not to buy the season pass and to wait and see what the DLC is before I decide to buy said DLC. Something tells me the DLC will be pretty expansive but we'll wait and see.
-Plenty of game types to try from a simple TDM to the incredibly fun walker assault plenty to keep you busy.
-Lots of blasters and other weapons to unlock as well as lots of character customization.
-Multiplayer runs very well haven't experienced any lag. There was a slight server hiccup right after launch where you couldn't find a game but after about 45 mins or so servers were up and working fine. No in-game chat unfortunately so you'll have to use the Xbox party system to communicate with your friends, I don't mind this because now I don't have to listen to a 12 year old cursing and saying racial slurs and I use Party most of the time anyway but I can see why people would be let down by not having in-game chat. I don't like the fact you can only use a partner spawn rather then a squad spawn. If you have an odd number of players in your party one person will have to partner up with a random player while everyone else will have an in-party partner to spawn on. This is probably my biggest complaint.

Overall a great game with some minor things that I felt could have been better. I hope this is helpful for anyone looking to buy the game. Don't believe the haters and the COD and Battlefield fanboys go out and try this game and I promise you'll have fun.

Gun-play is almost flawless. There is a mode for pretty much every kind of player. But the lack of a single player campaign hurts the score I gave it. If you want to make a successful shooter then you need to cater to the gamers that don't like playing online as well.

The atmosphere really does it's job of pulling you into the experience. The mechanics are solid and it feels nice in that slightly-less-tight-than-COD way Dice games share. I found it easy to jump into and understand. The vehicles do seem to be on more of a curve than Battlefield, but im not ready to write that off as bad controls vs. me sucking. The card system allows for some depth, but overall the options are fairly shallow. Rather than destroy the experience, i feel that this keeps things simple and ensures everyone is basically competitive even if the other guy has more unlocks.

Game balance is still in issue. Rebels own Endor, just like imperials owned hoth in the beta. I havent played enough matches yet to see if DICE adjusted from the beta but even as is, it fits narratively, adding to the sense of victory when your team pulls it off.

Plenty of modes. I havent even touched them all yet. Search a wiki or preview for more info. Without a single player campaign proper (which honestly would have looked a lot like what we got anyway..multiplayer maps with terrible AI and boss fights against heroes), and lackluster progression, having a variety of modes is most likely what will carry this game after the initial shine wears off.

Well, that and the expansive season pass. Ive seen complaints in other reviews, and i wonder how someone can be so mad when the content hasnt been revealed yet, and we dont know the breadth of it. I guess this argument comes down to whether or not you believe the game AS IS NOW, justifies 60 bones. And to answer that, you have to ask how much it is worth to you to play out your star wars fantasies on the most faithful recreation of this universe to date. The aesthetics simply cant be argued in regards to their faithfulness to the source. If geeking out of being on the ground in these iconic (and one new) scenes sounds at all appealing, then you are already there.

There are lots of negative reviews. Some of them bring up some very valid points. Look at what these guys say, take out the entitlement and sentiments of those who havent played the game (they are basically reviewing a bulletpoint list they saw on reddit or gamestop) and if whats left sounds appealing...see you on the battlefront.

Now, if you love Star Wars, or any form of FPS/TPS shooters, you will probably really really enjoy this title, especially if you have a group to play with. Yes, right now there are limited maps, but the Enormous amount of game modes change those maps and how you play them in so many ways. Yes its a cheap tactic to get more content out of the same areas, but at the same time it works well.

The physics, sounds, and graphics are stellar. It took me into my favorite star wars moments with my best friends. The game just released, so there are some obvious problems, like balancing on maps etc, but overall I give the game 9/10. The missed point is simply for the same four maps, and lack of balance, but both of which can be fixed.

One of the best things about the release is that you can TRY IT FOR FREE!..... So give it a whirl and see for yourself, don't trust every review, this game may or may not be for you.

"Star Wars: Battlefront", DICE's revival of Pandemic's online shooter, is similar to their own "Battlefield" franchise in terms of both structure and gameplay. The game's presentation captures both the look and feel of the classic movies with its stunning graphics,"Star Wars: Battlefront", DICE's revival of Pandemic's online shooter, is similar to their own "Battlefield" franchise in terms of both structure and gameplay. The best thing I can say about it is how faithfully it re-creates the famed battles from the original "Star Wars" trilogy. The game's presentation captures both the look and feel of the classic movies with its stunning graphics, iconic sound effects and John Williams' legendary score. While "Battlefront" does not contain a campaign, it does include numerous maps and modes that can be enjoyed both online and off. However, compared to the "Battlefield" games, it is lacking in depth. There are numerous weapons, gadgets and abilities to unlock, but nowhere as much as you'd find in any other comparable shooter. However, if you're a fan of both "Battlefield" and "Star Wars", you'll certainly enjoy "Battlefront".

The game includes 14 maps, 10 multiplayer modes, 5 tutorial missions and two single player modes which can be played with a partner. But it must be said that not all are on equal footing when it comes to enjoyment. "Supremacy" and "Walker Assault" are 40 player matches and are the best modes the game has to offer. Aerial combat can be found in "Flight Squadron" and melee combat is exclusive to the two "Hero" modes which feature three heroes from the good side and bad. "Droid Run" and "Conquest" has you protecting an area of the map from the opposing team. And "Battles" is basically "Kill Confirmed" from "Call of Duty" (you must pick up icons left by dead adversaries to score). Lastly, "Survival" is a horde mode where you must survive 15 rounds of Imperial attacks. Additionally, the game includes mini-challenges that unlock artwork when completed and you can also purchase various skins as you earn currency.

DICE has made the announcement that free maps and modes will appear throughout the year, so even if you haven't bought the Season Pass, there are some add-ons to look forward to. In the end, "Star Wars: Battlefront" is a good addition to the "Star Wars" universe. It celebrates the original trilogy very much like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and is more enjoyable than the uneven "Force Unleashed" games. So if you're a fan of DICE, "Star Wars" and FPS game in general, then you'll certainly enjoy it. 7.8 out of 10

The game is good for his generation, has great visuals, a perfect multiplayer experience and perfect sound effects except from some of the hero's. The content you get based on maps, game modus, sounds, graphics, customization is overall great compared with other games. At least it's a new game with both fps and third person experience, this is also a piece of great engineering, both functions works perfect and looks stunning!

I also wanted a game like battlefront 1/2 and I also realise it just isnt possible to build a galactic conquest. I will explain, so 40 players split up in 2 teams jumping in space ships flying from one ship to the other destroying the ship outside, looks like a real caboodle to me! It would have been extremely unbalanced and not from this time. I would suggest that if we want to play a old generation battlefront we just play the old generations battlefront, because I still play it at moments I desire to.

And for all the gamers that complain about a season pass, PLEASE PUT A ZERO IN EVERY REVIEW YOU WILL EVER MAKE FOR A GAME!

Thanks EA for this amazing experience.

A graphical leap that deserves special attention. Make no mistake, this is some of the best graphics any FPS has ever had EVER. Sure...it doesn't pack the same amount of content that Black Ops III has...but this is a gaming experience unlike any I've ever had, and for that, I can't help but feel a bit bummed by some of these critics reviews.

The game is decidedly minimalistic...with smooth motion graphics that show your score and upgrades at the end of each match. The game has stripped away a lot of the **** that has distanced some people from COD and Battlefield, and brought the player back to a simpler time much akin to Goldeneye.

The game is more about the battle itself and the objectives at hand. Maps don't provide unrealistic cardboard boxes you can hide behind to protect yourself from bullets. The landscape is like a real landscape of a battlefield...sometimes open and perilous, sometimes tight and awkward. This has been deemed a mistake by a lot of reviewers, but I find it incredibly refreshing. For once people have to survive based on their ability to take chances and use their skill-set, rather than half-hide behind a wall and camp all day, picking off unsuspecting players as they race toward an objective.

Speaking of which, the heroes create a balance where anyone who has decided to take the camping route can no longer hide. Heroes are immensely fun to take control of, and they provide a fun way to strategically take over waypoints. I'm still itching to play as Boba Fett again--flying through the forest of Endor shooting my enemies below as I protect them from activating the uplinks. It actually made me consider taking a day off of work. It's a richly unique experience and reminds me of a first-person shooter version of League of Legends. A tug-of-war match from the ground with heroes leading the charge. It's a ton of fun.

And for once, I'm actually excited to put some money down for DLC. I really believe in the engine that's been created here, and while I feel I have plenty to dig into still after a solid 10 hours of online gameplay, my mind races thinking of all the cool maps, unlockables, and game types this game is going to unleash. I'm more than satisfied with what's here, but I can tell EA put in a lot of work to creating a living, breathing world, and anything they add to this will be delicious gravy.

I'm shocked at the reaction to this game. It seems that people either love it or hate it. Which I often think is a sign of a good film. I've never quite applied that to video games though.

Here's a perfect example on how you should view your decision to purchase Star Wars: Battlefront or not. I'm always amazed by how people support Destiny like it's their first born child. It's a game that seems so repetitive and lacks so much content that it originally promised. It's a game that requires you to grind through the same bosses and maps to find new, rare loot. People love this game. I loved the story mode, and I enjoyed grinding for a short while, but ultimately, I think that it fell incredibly short of Microsoft's promise to essentially deliver the entire UNIVERSE.

My whole point for mentioning Destiny though is that at a certain level of video game quality--people just like what they like. I don't knock anyone for liking Destiny. Presentation, graphics, and audio are excellent. It's a well-made game. Tier-1 video game development here. But it's not my thing. It's their thing. It didn't meet my expectations, but it met a lot of other people's expectations to a "T."

It's weird to me to review Star Wars: Battlefront and give it a 6/10 like Forbes did today. (Ironically they gave it a 10/10 yesterday). I mean...have you played a 6/10 game before? Games like Star Wars: Battlefront don't belong in a failing category. Perhaps it didn't meet your expectations, like Destiny didn't meet mine. Perhaps it meant that it was not your style--but there's no argument: it's presentation, appeal, gameplay and replay-ability is beyond excellent.

Winter Nagano Olympics '98 for the original Playstation, that game was a 6/10. Some of the Harvest Moon series' games (which by the way, I have a soft spot for Harvest Moon), those games are 6/10.

Star Wars: Battlefront? At the bare minimum a 7.5 out of 10. If you just absolutely hated this game...you can't say it's a failing game entirely.

What the Battlefield/Battlefront series does better than any Call of Duty game is tell a story. Call of Duty is a shooter for sport. Battlefront is a shooter with a priority on fun and experiences.

    It's cinematic. It's strategic. It's excellent gameplay.

Some of these reviewers I just want to ask them, "Is your ice-cream too cold?" This game is excellent dessert. It's entirely well-made and well-executed. Just because they were expecting something else, doesn't a game is bad.

I think everyone just wanted to include a Star Wars pun in their review title.

Máxime si tenemos en cuenta que nos venden el juego base a precio de juego completo.

Those wanting a game reminiscent of the older Battlefront titles are going to be disappointed. Same for those looking for a content rich experience. However people just looking for some Star Wars fun can find an enjoyable experience here. They just have to be willing to put up with some less than satisfactory aspects.

There's no single-player campaign. There is single-player, offline content, but it all just boils down to bot matches and tutorials. There are some bonus objectives to tackle in these modes, but the only one really worth spending any time with is the survival mode. Unfortunately it too has some issues. For one there are only four maps. It also limits the mode to only two players. It's decent, but the AI isn't the greatest and honestly it lacks the punch survival modes have in other games.

But by far the most disappointing part of the meager single-player offerings are that they show potential for what could have been an at least decent campaign. DICE nailed the universe. This game really does feel like Star Wars. Thee graphics and sound are both stellar. Combine those elements with some sharper AI, a solid plot, and decent structure and there could have been a campaign worth talking about. Sadly there isn't.

With the offline content being so lackluster this is definitely a multiplayer focused game. Thankfully it mostly succeeds there. However the more picky out there will still find plenty of gripes. It isn't exactly bursting at the seams with content. More maps at launch would have been appreciated as would have some more modes. I personally view what's here as at the very least a decent amount of content. The real sting about this though comes from the $50 season pass. It's like EA wants us to pay almost double for a more complete experience. Kind of a low move.

Another potential issue comes from the gameplay itself. Star Wars is a huge property. One that has attracted fans from every walk of life. In order to make a game that is accessible to as many of these fans as possible, it has been dumbed down in some ways from your average shooter. Skill still trumps all, but no matter what your gaming experience you can still feel at least a little proud of yourself when matches end. It's not too bad. The only real issue I have with it is the lack of voice chat. Without it there really isn't any strategizing going on outside of party chat with your friends. Some modes could benefit from it.

Yet for all of Battlefront's issues I still find myself having fun with it. That's because it feels like Star Wars. Blasting my way through familiar locations, getting hero power ups, and playing fun modes like Walker Assault make it an enjoyable enough an experience to recommend for most Star Wars fans. Even with most of the modes just being standard to the average FPS, the Star Wars skin keeps me entertained. Perhaps it's better off as a rental at first, but I think Star Wars fans just looking for some multiplayer fun are going to find something to enjoy here regardless of faults.

    I give the game a 7.5/10

Dice (the creators of Battlefield) have done a phenomenal job at recreating this universe; primed with stunning moments that instill not only a grand sense of nostalgia for Star Wars fans, but also a genuine sense of fun. However, this experience may be far shorter lived than one would hope for a multiplayer-only shooter. Thanks to the noticeable lack of diverse content coupled with the developer’s apprehension to push the franchise into new and challenging territories.

And what a unique experience it is. Playing Battlefront is a lot of fun. Whether you’re the rebel alliance, or the empire, the gameplay is well balanced and runs seamlessly. Its great level design helps make the maps you play on, feel more like actual places than maps—quite an accomplishment for any multiplayer game.

The main game play focuses on your blaster of choice and power up cards you unlock. There are only a few blasters in the game, with no level of individual customization (an odd fact coming from the “unlock heavy” Battlefield 4 developers). The strategy of firefights depends heavily on the power cards. You can have up to three equipped. These cards give you items such as special weapons, grenades, and jet packs. They recharge over time after each use, allowing you to use them frequently, yet ensuring that they aren’t spammed. The more powerful weapons, like orbital strikes, rocket launchers, and vehicle pickups, are one-time use spawn tokens spread across each map. While some cards are certainly prioritized over others, such as the jet pack with its ability to get to vantage points and in and out of conflicts quickly, all the cards can be useful if used appropriately.

On top of normal infantry game play, there are special hero characters from the films you can play as by picking up a unique token. Each hero has unique powers and buffered health bars, and therefore offers great opportunities for strategic pushes, and fun to be had. You can cut down rebels on Hoth as Darth Vader with the Imperial March theme playing, you can shoot the emperor in the face as Han Solo, and you can cut a TIE fighter out of the sky as Luke Skywalker (good luck). It is in these moments that Battlefront really shines.

Unfortunately these moments are mostly restricted two the two largest game modes, Supremacy and Walker Assault. Both offer 20 verses 20 battles with vehicles, huge maps, and hero characters. Supremacy focuses on the acquisition of sequential capture points. While Walker Assault pits rebels vs empire. Where the rebels try and stop the goliath imperial AT-AT walkers from reaching an end point by holding two capture points, which call in bombers, which in turn allow the rebels to do damage and try to destroy the walkers. The empires task is to stop this at all costs. Each of these modes offers a foundation for glorious blaster chaos and epic moments to take place. The other game modes are not as fulfilling by comparison.

There is also a co-op option. Locally or online, you and a partner can beat missions, battle against each other and the AI, or complete survival horde type missions. Each of the co-op options suffer from a lack of depth and replay ability. The missions serve as simple glorified tutorials. The battles are noticeably limited. You can’t play on the same team as your partner and there are no options or objectives beyond kill the AI or your buddy. Survival missions are very run-of-the-mill—survive. Once completing any of these, there is no incentive to do it again. There is a feeling of emptiness in these modes.

It is actually a common feeling surrounding the entire game. The problem with the game is what it lacks, not what it has. The developers did everything they should have, not what they could have. The Star Wars universe, visuals, sounds, and game play is great. There is a large scale game mode that compliments the universe and game play. And there is a co-op mode. But the holes around this core are numerous. There are not nearly enough customization options with game play and features. There are only six hero characters where there is certainly a desire and room for more. There is a lack of a more extensive unlock system that provides players incentive to work towards something. Very few worlds are also explored, though they are done expertly. Co-op is far too limited. You can’t customize battles or even play on the same side outside of online.

What the game lacks is certainly a lot. But what we do get, is certainly highly polished, and can be largely fun. It is a game that has achieved a unique experience, but it plays it safe by taking far too few risks in diving deeper in its available content. Whether the content right now is capable of keeping players online, and whether future content will fulfill some of the absent possibilities will certainly be a testament in due time, but one that I have acquired a new hope for.

Supremacy and Walker Assault are of course a couple of the funner modes, but I honestly like the Fighter Squadron mode the most so far. So far I am having fun, but I can see where some come from stating the lack of content considering the low map count for each mode. EA has stated a few days ago though they are now going to release new maps and starcards for free on top of the planned content and free DLC that comes out in 7 days. So I can see myself getting $60 worth out of the game easily over the next month or two. Beyond that though the season pass is questionable and we will have to see what they add(I refuse to buy that until some information is released on it). So for an early review of the game and getting a general feel of it and the content provided I would honestly rate it at a 7/10. However I will bump that up to a 9/10 considering all the people rating it 0/10 lol. The game is much better than that and the user-review hate is rampant here for some reason. Expand

I also haven't had a decent star fighter fix since rebel assault on the N64 either, so that's a big bonus.

Also I have seen some of the reviews say that there is no way to play single player. This is completely false. In mission mode you can play by yourself, or with a friend in co-op or online co-op. Its not a full campaign, sure, so I won't give it credit for being one, but to say it doesn't exist is just wrong.

I have also seen the complaint that the game doesn't feature different classes of soldier. This is true for the most part. You are either a rebel or a storm trooper. However, you can unlock specialty traits later as you progress to help specialize your character for a specific style of gameplay, but it is not a separate class.

The game runs smoothly, the sounds are amazing, and it looks beautiful. And on top of that the game makes you feel like you are in Star Wars, especially in the Fighter Squadron mode, or any time you pick up a hero token.

I'd like more single player stuff, and having different classes would have been cool, but overall the game is good. People have a lot of hatred for EA and DICE in their minds and it is clouding their judgment. People are acting like they were lied to, even though EA and DICE said for months leading up to release that this game was going to be multiplayer focused, but still people act like they were duped into buying this game. Despite the currently unfavorable reviews, this is truly not a terrible game. I think people should understand 2 things when buying this game, which in my opinion are the two big negatives that people are really upset about:

    1) This is not going to be the same experience you had with the previous battlefront games 10 years ago. Quit simply, this game currently does not play like the previous ones did. There is no classic 'conquest' mode to it-while 'supremacy' is similar, the way its set up causes the game to not flow like the old battlefront did at all. There is no strategy really in terms of attacking-no flanking, nothing like that. In supremacy (which seems to be the mode most people play) at any one time there is at most 2 bases in play-they will be bases that are right next to each other, so there is a constant 'front line' effect (where everybody is fighting in the same spot), which essentially rules out any real tactics that would be involved. I think most people who were very excited for this game to come out were people who previously played this game and wanted it to essentially be like the older games with larger maps, more maps, and better graphics. You won't get that, this will be an overall different FPS experience. The air combat seems to be pretty bad. I prefer to run around and shoot as opposed to flying an x-wing or whatever, however even I noticed that the flying is pretty bad. I would also say that currently the game modes that involve 'heroes' are not so fun. For Battlefront 2, the Mos Eisley hero fight was epic fun. It's not quite the same on this.

    2) EA, in classic style, is trying to get as much money out of this as they can. In doing so, the game that is currently on the market is incomplete. That is the main reason this game is getting bad reviews. In a year this game will be a 9/10. However, the game that is currently on the market only has maps on 4 planets; Hoth, Endor, Tatooine and Sullust (a world thats important in the expanded universe of star wars but never in the movies). There are only currently 6 heroes-Luke, Vader, Leia, Jango Fett, the Emporer and Han Solo. When you consider that the previous game (which came out 10 years ago) had more hero options-thats quite annoying. There seems to be a lack of game modes, but again, the lack of game modes, heroes, and maps will all be resolved when more expansions come out. However, you will end up paying anywhere from $50-$80 for these expansions, which is bad and we as a gaming community should not support these practices.

While I've ranted a bit about the negatives, it's time for some good things about this game. The graphics are stunning. Probably the best I've seen in a FPS ever. Also, the gameplay is incredibly smooth. I've experienced no lag, no servers crashing, nothing of the sort, even once. I personally find the controls intuitive and once you get the hang of the style of this game, I find myself generally being one of the top 3-4 players each match, having an absolute blast jumping around in my jet pack, using my ion shots to blow up turrets or piss of people who are in vehicles. The game can be great, mindless fun. While I've read some reviews that rip on the upgrades and customization-I think those are actually pretty good. You have a dozen guns to choose from, you can purchase like 100 different outfits your character (depending on level), and they added an option where you can essentially have a special ability (For me I shoot ion bullets) which adds another element to the game completely. The maps that are there are good, which gives me faith that newer ones that come out will be good as well. You can also run around and pick up upgrades, which adds another element. You never know if that grenade that landed next to you is just a thermal detonator or thermal imploder, or whether you are being locked by a homing shot or an infantry turret.

If you will only be satisfied with this new Battlefront if it plays like the previous ones, I would say do not purchase. It will not be with your time or disappointment that this is a different game. I would also say that if money is an issue for you at all that I would wait a year or so to purchase. All of the expansions will probably be on a single disc that will be only $60 by then. However, if you have an open mind (sounds kinda lame I know), and simply love fun, first person shooters I say this is a decent purchase. You absolutely will enjoy playing this game, the graphics are stunning, the gameplay is incredibly smooth, the soundtrack is great, you will feel like you are in the world of star wars. However, shame on EA (or maybe us) for obviously using the Battlefront franchise to take as much money from people as possible. I think if they waited a little bit and released a complete version of this game, the sheer volume of people purchasing it would have given them more profit than the current state of people purchasing it, and then paying for upgrades.

For example, Galactic Conquest, split screen for walker assault, more Jedi and Sith characters for the epic Jedi vs Sith battles, and a Command Post objective based game styles with garrison mechanic enforced. And lets not forget epic space battles that are half the reason why star wars is awesome! The movies have some of their best scenes in space. From the first destruction of the death star, to Anakins youthful victory of the destruction of the Trade Federation command ship. Lets not forget Anakin and Obiwan flying their way to save Chancellor Palpetine/ AKA the emperor, or aka Darth Sidious. Star Wars Battlefront 2 gave us such a cool mind blowing experience when they introduced space battles and Jedi battles. I mean playing as Darth Maul is just awesome!

Side note* Heroes, AKA Jedi, and Sith, should be able to command and pilot vehicles. Luke and Anakin/Darth Vader are 2 of the greatest pilots of all time! Why not put Darth Vader in a Tie fighter with increased health bonus and damage? Lets go above and beyond here guys!

The director said he wanted to focus more on planetary epic battles. Okay very cool I am down with that. But where is the amazing battles from the clone wars and Naboo? Oh and that includes Kashyyyk! Oh but he said more focused on the older movies. Playing as a droideka is one of the coolest things I remember in Conquest and command posts. Rolling around as a ball of destruction being able to deploy a shield cover when deemed necessary was very convenient.

One of the lasts points I think I will make is the lack of maps and depth in this game. Simplicity is important, but this seems to be a dumb downed version to what would have been the completion of the Star Wars Battlefront trilogy. This game was hyped for 10 years and had some of the worst reviews. I mean how do you go from Game of the Year to "Star Wars Battlefront EA" Don't get me started on EA right now. Come on EA turn this Millennium Falcon around in the right direction! This isn't Call of Freaking Duty. This is Star Wars Battlefront 3.

I know this review has been mostly negatives if in fact all negatives. Don't get me wrong the game is very fun and addicting to play. However I haven't touched the game in almost a month and can find other fun games to pass the time. This game is Battlefield with a modded star wars skin is all. Lets get some free updates and make the dlc even better!

Disappointing. It plays like a an average 1st person shooter. It can be frustrating because your player is fodder until you earn better guns. The control of the vehicles is wonky. The star fighter battles are boring.

It's star wars. It has that going for it.

Awful, just awful. Graphics don't make a game great. Why does everyone love Kotor? Not because of the graphics, tough those are good for that time. No, because of the story and great RPG style gameplay. Everything of this missing in Battlefront!

A great game. It has a good amount/variety of maps, weapons, and skins. I'm still not that happy about it considering that there's no campaign. But otherwise a good game with good content.

Looks great. Sounds great. Plays great. However there aren't enough maps. There's no single player campaign. The gameplay is unoriginal. There is too much DLC, almost all of which should have been shipped with the main game. A classic "wait until the price comes down" purchase.

I've spent hours upon hours investing into this game. I hoped it would be a groundbreaker, packed with innovative surprises and a truly massive wartime "vibe" to it, something which is almost completely absent in the Star Wars saga. Given that it was so long-teased and in development for an eternity, I expected heaping amounts of content. Coming from Dice, who have a more impressive track record than many developers, these seemed like reasonable expectations, and I'm sure most of you would agree with that.

So, how does it stack up a few months later, in a time when all online shooters must be judged based on their longevity and sustainability? Well, while I'm not a fan of arbitrary numbers suggesting the overall value of an experience, but Metacritic demands I do so, and so there's a 5 slapped on top of this post.

My reviews can get very lengthy... like, "over 5,000 words" lengthy. I have a lot of conflicting thoughts on this game, so rather than talk in a circle, here's the good followed by the bad.

This game can be breathtakingly beautiful, and aesthetically, it is a triumphant visual portrayal of the Star Wars universe. There are better looking games, sure, but the real treat here lies in the details. Much care was taken by Dice to ensure a faithful visual and auditory experience to satisfy fans. There can really be nothing taken away from the in-game production value. When those big battles do come around, you feel the intensity as we never have in a Star Wars game before.
The actual gameplay mechanics were also surprisingly good to me. It's not quite like Battlefield, but the similarities can be noted. What really struck me and continues to be a bright spot is the fact that it just doesn't -feel- like anything else out there. The controls are sharp, (usually), and the way one moves about feels different enough to make the gameplay stand out. You won't bring a comprehensive understanding of how to play based off of any amount of Battlefield, CoD, or Halo you've been playing. It's still just a shooter, but even for seasoned gamers it requires a bit of learning. That is a tough thing to do these days. That is under-appreciated in this age of shooters.
Also, the museum of collectibles is nifty, if not limited and redundant. Had the game been given more "meat," it would have been a fancy bow on top.

Now, unfortunately, there is just as much bad as there is good... and possibly more.

It could be said that this is a money grab; fancy eye-candy packaging to cover a shallow experience.

I am a strong believer that all games must be judged based on their single player and multiplayer appeal equally, & this game is not easily enjoyed alone. Single player content is almost completely absent, and what effort was made was wasted, in my eyes. What's there amounts to little more than tutorials and waves of enemies. You play once on all of the maps, and you've seen it all. There is no plot to spoil. Rebels kill Imperials. Imperials kill rebels. The game lost massive points with me on the single player front. I don't -need- a campaign. What I need is a game that's fun to play alone, catering well to a person going into multiplayer flying solo. THAT qualifies as part of the solo aspect, and the game does so little to make you feel like going it alone.
The obvious knock everyone has is the lack of content, and to be brief, that is with good reason. There are a handful of maps, environments, and objectives, but other than the Star Wars setting, you have had a chance to play everything here before. Where there could have been truly sprawling and varied battlefields which play out in numerous ways, you are almost getting an "on rails" feeling with the games premiere mode, Walker Assault. That type of design is unacceptable, given the work that was expended into other areas of the game.

Equally lackluster was the currency system. It's simple; play games, get points, spend points. As far as I know, very little to nothing at all is unlocked from playing the game or finishing challenges. I understand that this keeps a more level playing field, but really, any good shooter develops a hardcore following, and those people should get a little something for their repeated efforts, in my opinion.

Summarizing, it's not that Battlefront is a bad game, per se.... however, it is yet another disappointment from Dice, and by my count, that's 3 major releases met with valid criticism.
It's is gorgeous, and faithful to its brand. It's clear that it was made by fans of the series. That being said, the pathetic amount of content will be run through by most players after a few hours, and in this day and age, that is not a sustainable experience.
The shame is that we can see just what the developers were going for - with some great ideas mixed in - but once you've finished leveling up, there is going to be very little bringing you back to the galaxy.

Genuinely one of the worst, most boring and feeble games I've ever played. Thank God I got it on EA Access. No campaign. Simple and boring customisation. UI problems everywhere. Can't understand any of the menus. Bad gameplay. Bad sound. Awful flight mechanics. Boring maps with not enough cover. Terrible character movement. Not actually great graphics. I could go on. But it's boring me.

Since reading some of the reviews, I cannot help but notice many user reviews giving unnecessarily high praise to this game, and I believe at some point a blithering fool somewhere mentioned that you cannot compare this title to the games that came before it...? Yes, you CAN and SHOULD compare it to the originals, or any good game for that matter, because they did it RIGHT. Just because something is on next-gen hardware, why would you not compare it to its predecessor?

I remember Star Ware Battlefront 2 for the PlayStation 2, and as a decade later follow up to that game, I am not seeing any innovation whatsoever. In fact, I am so disappointed by the mistakes with this game that I decided to write a review of it.

So, first off, I have a bias toward EA, so if that is a factor for you, go ahead and skip this review. Electronic Arts no longer cares what you want. You know what they do care about? They care about money. They don't give one red cent about you or your experience except for what you might say about their game that might reduce sales. Unless you are a professional blogger or have a popular YouTube channel, they could care less about you, me, or our opinions. Here we go:

Plot: cannot really muck with this since it's LucasFilm's property (now Disney), but I am sure they (EA) would have found a way had there been an opportunity.

Voice acting: this is not terrible. Darth Vader was my only real complaint. He sounds like some white guy who is upset that someone ate his cereal. He does not have the deep, rich voice of James Earl Jones to be sure. I noticed a few other slight disappointments but nothing huge.

Sound: The lasers shooting, and explosions galore have great sound quality, and the team did a magnificent job of portraying the Star Wars vehicles and environments.

Gameplay: So, this is where it all works, or it doesn't. After playing for several hours yesterday, I hate it less than initially expected, but even sardonic praise is better than what I would have said before the time I spent with it last night. The tutorials were adequate but not fun, which is a segue into the whole experience. The only portion of the game that offers any fun is the multiplayer aspects, even if they are sub-par. I thought that DICE worked on this project, so where were they when it came to laying out the controls and gameplay? How many shooters are under your belt?? The controls do not utilize the full feature-set offered by the DualShock 4 controller by any stretch of the imagination. Also, I would like to know who the brainchild was behind the cards power-ups. That was criminal to do, for the sake of what... innovation? That was the best EA and DICE could produce was it?

Graphics: Magnificent graphics for a terribly mediocre follow-up to one of the greatest sagas of all time.

I should say thank you to EA and to DICE for ruining one of the most anticipated games for me. You both should be commended for your stupidity, and the fanboys are clearly right there on the bandwagon with you, dishing out nines and tens like poorly-executed blowjobs. If it wasn't for the brainless masses, we might still receive games worth playing from huge studios like EA.

If you want a good game, try Fallout 4. It might have some bugs, but at least it is exhilarating to play and innovate utilizing ideas from its predecessor! Go figure.

I'm not going to lie. I've played this game a ton, but it feels like its missing something.

No its not the single player content, or campaign, but the fact you pay $60 for such a limited about of content. If you enjoy the large battle style battlefront, the game ships with only 4 playable maps. If you join in the rotation works out that you play the same side on each map each time

If you enjoy the large battle style battlefront, the game ships with only 4 playable maps. If you join in the rotation works out that you play the same side on each map each time unless you leave the play list and rejoin it with the hop you start on the other side. Since the playlist regularly rotates through the same maps in order they should have made sure to have an odd number of maps, and keep the # odd with DLC additions. Now granted the Battle of Jakku DLC (free) will hopefully fix this, but once again we are waiting almost a month after release for the 'actual' game to be out.

The positives are that the game is very polished. Aside from a few game crashes (maybe once every 5 - 6 hrs of gameplay), it runs smooth and as intended. It's probably one of the best DICE/EA releases in years when it comes the actual final release quality of the code.

I would recommend this though for major Star Wars fan, as this game is a really big fan service. The game is very true to the original films and feels so much like you are in these epic battles. If only it would have had a little more content I would have given it a 8/10.

This is a not a bad game. It is visually fantastic and at times truly thrilling. Running across grass, or ducking for cover on the sand covered planes of Tatooine has never felt more real, thanks to unbelievable graphics and sound design. In those areas, Star Wars Battlefront excels better than most titles could ever dream of.

But the excellence of this title just about runs short

But the excellence of this title just about runs short there. If you remove the extremely impressive and polished coating around this game, you are left with a shallow, and at best average, shooter game. There are a handful of modes that are fun for a while, but most are uninspired and more of a drag to play than a thrill. The map choice is very limited at launch, and I felt I'd seen everything in just a few hours. There is no real campaign, not much genuine choice, and just very little to get stuck into here.

On top of this, the game has an absurd price tag. In the UK it's £40 at launch with very vague 'DLC packs' promised in the future for about the same price. Pay for everything, and you're close to £100 on a game that doesn't really beat its competition in any department other than sound and visuals. This is just ludicrous. Star Wars Battlefront feels empty, hollow and is a bit of a cash grab. It is smaller and less fulfilling than its predecessors and considering they are over a decade old now, DICE and EA have much more to do if they want the promised sequel to be worth anything near the prices they charge.

I can tell you that the hero mode is awful or that the lack of variety makes this game quickly redundant... There is an egregious token collecting system to get into vehicles and bot, the thing that made the real Battlefront game is gone. It's just easier to say that this game would have been better if they just didn't call it a Battlefront game.

The visuals and sound (along with John Williams' score) really immerse you into the world of Star Wars. The X-Wing battle in the canyon on Tattooine is stunning, as well as the Hoth setting. I've seen it mentioned that the game sorely lacks prequel settings which is absolutely true. Yes, the films were terrible, but some of the visuals and worlds should be included here.

The game is not deep at all. There are training missions, some "vs." battles, and online play, but no real campaigns, and what there is is limited by a very small amount of character customization. Casual gamers like myself will enjoy it, but hard-core people will become bored quickly.

Overall, this is a fun foray into the Star Wars universe that should have been a little more broad. I'm curious what the expansion packs will add, but I don't think I'll be curious enough to buy them.
