Worth the investment for its stellar story. Bear in mind that the combat and the camera issues are still present.

Playing the Definitive Edition reminded me how much I enjoyed its excellent story and characters, combat, and city, but also made me pine for a true new-gen sequel.

For better or worse, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is not that much different from your standard issue Game of the Year Edition. That is to say, you'll be treated one of the best open world crime adventures in recent years, and the game still looks great, if not dramatically different on its new hardware.

Although it's slightly rough around the edges, and packs the occasional bug, Sleeping Dogs is nevertheless a gripping and thoroughly entertaining Hong Kong action movie in game form.

For those who missed out on Sleeping Dogs two years ago, the title is correct: this is the definitive version. Unfortunately, those who already visited the compressed streets of Hong Kong will have almost no incentive to go back.
  6. United Front has created a version of Hong Kong packed with things to do and the excellent combat and driving ensure it's always fun. If you've not played it, we're a bit jealous.

Stuffed to the gills with content, it's a generous package, and one that even those considering a second trip will enjoy.

While a solid collection, this port is marred by inconsistent frame rate, technical problems and a high price tag. We can argue about whether or not this is enough to warrant the $60 asking price, but there's no debate over the quality of Sleeping Dogs as an open-world action experience.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition confirms the original game's pros like the great combat system and compelling story, but this HD re-edition doesn't astonish or add new elements to justify buying it again or for the first time, at full price, for the ones who never played it.

Packed with content, all of the DLCs that have come out since the original game and upgraded graphics, this GTA clone will keep you happy till the "real deal" (GTAV) comes to the next-gen.

Either way, Sleeping Dogs is still a lot of fun, but the when it comes to throwing hard-earned money at 4th quarter releases, I can’t suggest putting this port at the top of your must-have lists.

The only mode to feel completely finished is Nightmare in North Point, which pits the player against an army of hopping vampires and a few resurrected faces from the main storyline.

The terrific melee combat system and intriguing story are more than enough to warrant a recommendation to anyone yet to play it, but if you’ve experienced the streets of Hong Kong before then the slightly sharper visuals and included DLC are a tougher sell.
  14. I have a hard time understanding why Sleeping Dogs needed to be ported to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in what Square Enix is calling the game’s “Definitive Edition”...It collects all of the game’s considerable post-release content – including a trio of story-driven add-ons – in one convenient place, which is laudable. But core game hasn’t changed much. And it wasn’t perfect to begin with...The expression “warts and all” to leap to mind.

While the core Sleeping Dogs experience is still worth playing, the Definitive Edition is loaded with graphical issues and costs way too much for a game that plays worse than the PC version released two years ago.

    It’s more average than definitive.

Still a very good game, but it's on the more pointless end of the rerelease spectrum, and they really should have fixed those bugs.

The story is good and interested and the settings is good. Easily a 8/10, just some really technical issues let it down for me, there are a lot of bugs and strange things that happen in the game Full Review »

It did not disappoint. It feels like a middle ground between GTA and Saints Row. Has the realism, grit, and attention to detail like GTA, but at the same time it plays in a very arcade style.
The plot has the whole "caught between the life of a cop and criminal" thing done well; side characters forgettable though. Some of the gameplay elements are pretty ridiculous, but undoubtedly fun (hilarious car chases). Combat is pretty good. Packed with content, collectables, races, clothes, vehicles, and side missions (that are also fun). The settings is brilliantly realised. One major issue for me; is that the map is sectioned into five distinct districts separated by motorways, but none of them are bigger enough or unique enough to warrant. Its as though the map was stretched to make it appear bigger; just no need, would of seemed denser and more realistic without the separation. Also, there are a few minor bugs and annoyances.
Overall, it has everything you want from an open-world, crime action game.

"Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition" for the XBOX ONE is a visually enhanced port of the last-gen game complete with all the post-launch DLC"Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition" for the XBOX ONE is a visually enhanced port of the last-gen game complete with all the post-launch DLC including two story missions. "Dogs" started out as an entry in the "True Crime" series and its roots show despite the name change. This is an open-world action title that pulls much of its inspiration from the classic Asian film "Infernal Affairs" and Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto" franchise. So if you're a fan of police thrillers, GTA and martial-art flicks, you'll certainly have a good time with this one. I played "Sleeping Dogs" on XBOX 360 and immediately noticed the upgraded graphics. A higher resolution, more detailed character models, new fog effects, a better draw distance, less bugs and more NPCs make the game a better experience, at least visually. Story wise, you play as Wei Shen, an undercover cop who is a veteran of the mean streets of Hong Kong. He is given the task of bringing down the Triad gangs. Wei can use guns, but his main weapons is his fists and feet. The game gives you all the usual side-missions in addition to the main story assignments. You'll be able to participate in street races, fight clubs, gambling, martial-art challenges as well as hacking and various cop activities. There's also an island that you can visit that is a direct homage to "Enter the Dragon" (with its 70's import movie presentation). Of course, there are also plenty of scattered icons you can track down for bonus upgrades. The Hong Kong setting and cop story is what makes "Sleeping Dogs" really stand out from the rest of the GTA clone pack. The city layout may not be a work of art like Los Santos was in "Grand Theft Auto V", but it's fun to navigate through. Despite its derivative nature, "Dogs" gets plenty right in terms of both story and action. It may not be a next-gen experience, but you should find plenty of value in this definitive version of the game if you're into GTA-like titles. 7.8 out of 10. Full Review »
