"Dogs" started out as an entry in the "True Crime" series and its roots show despite the name change. This is an open-world action title that pulls much of its inspiration from the classic Asian film "Infernal Affairs" and Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto" franchise. So if you're a fan of police thrillers, GTA and martial-art flicks, you'll certainly have a good time with this one. I played "Sleeping Dogs" on XBOX 360 and immediately noticed the upgraded graphics. A higher resolution, more detailed character models, new fog effects, a better draw distance, less bugs and more NPCs make the game a better experience, at least visually. Story wise, you play as Wei Shen, an undercover cop who is a veteran of the mean streets of Hong Kong. He is given the task of bringing down the Triad gangs. Wei can use guns, but his main weapons is his fists and feet. The game gives you all the usual side-missions in addition to the main story assignments. You'll be able to participate in street races, fight clubs, gambling, martial-art challenges as well as hacking and various cop activities. There's also an island that you can visit that is a direct homage to "Enter the Dragon" (with its 70's import movie presentation). Of course, there are also plenty of scattered icons you can track down for bonus upgrades. The Hong Kong setting and cop story is what makes "Sleeping Dogs" really stand out from the rest of the GTA clone pack. The city layout may not be a work of art like Los Santos was in "Grand Theft Auto V", but it's fun to navigate through. Despite its derivative nature, "Dogs" gets plenty right in terms of both story and action. It may not be a next-gen experience, but you should find plenty of value in this definitive version of the game if you're into GTA-like titles. 7.8 out of 10. Expand

The plot has the whole "caught between the life of a cop and criminal" thing done well; side characters forgettable though. Some of the gameplay elements are pretty ridiculous, but undoubtedly fun (hilarious car chases). Combat is pretty good. Packed with content, collectables, races, clothes, vehicles, and side missions (that are also fun). The settings is brilliantly realised. One major issue for me; is that the map is sectioned into five distinct districts separated by motorways, but none of them are bigger enough or unique enough to warrant. Its as though the map was stretched to make it appear bigger; just no need, would of seemed denser and more realistic without the separation. Also, there are a few minor bugs and annoyances.
Overall, it has everything you want from an open-world, crime action game.

On top of graphical and gameplay improvements, all of the DLC has been included on the disc. The three story based expansions might even be enough to make it a worthy purchase for those looking for another playthrough.

By far one of the most impressive aspects of the game is the story. It's narrative in genuinely compelling. Things play out like a gritty crime-thriller with the vibe of a martial arts film thanks to it's mix of gang warfare and kung fu. The characters and writing are a step above most other games out there and the acting is incredible. It's theme of undercover police work allows Sleeping Dogs to explore just how deep one can go without losing themselves. It kind of reminded me of Gareth Evans' "The Raid" films.

Developer United Front Games has crafted a unique world that's brimming with life. The Hong Kong setting gives the game it's own distinct flavor that no other open-world game has. It's also packed with content. There are a wide variety of activities and side-missions to tackle. It's easy to get lost in the world for hours at a time to the point where it almost starts to feel like home. I also have to praise the progression system. The more you do, the stronger you get and the more abilities and options that open up to you. If you really take the time to sink your teeth into Sleeping Dogs' meaty offerings then you'll notice that there is a genuine feeling of growth.

There are some issues hanging around, so it's not quite all perfect. Some old bugs are hanging around and it's in desperate need of a fast-travel system where you don't have to rely on random taxis that you have to pay for. The former is most prominent in the DLC chapters. The thing that gave me the most problems though was the racing element. These side-missions are made unnecessarily tedious due to cheap AI catch up mechanics. You'll be doing fine one minute only to have your opponents fly by you even though you had a nice lead and there was nothing to slow you down. The races themselves aren't impossible as it just comes down to finding the right vehicle and maybe some track memorization. It doesn't change the fact that I felt like Sleeping Dogs' combination of the racing and 3rd person open-world genres wasn't as satisfying as it could have been.

As for the DLC content included in this definitive edition, not only do you get all of the costume packs, but you get three story expansions and a collection of missions that allow you access to the game's best vehicle upon completion (it really makes those A-rank races so much easier). The Zodiac Tournament Pack is the only of the three expansions that can be accessed from the main game. The other two must be accessed separately at the main menu. It really embraces the kung fu side of things as it plays out like a cheesy martial arts film where you fight in a tournament of blood and fists. It's a great deal of fun.

"Nightmare in North Point" adds a comical horror twist to the game as you'll take down the denizens of hell that have begun popping up around town. It's a nice addition, but probably my least favorite of the three as it has so little going for it from a narrative standpoint. It can also be kind of a pain to get 100% completion in as you have to hunt down a bunch of enemies across the map to get the kills needed to complete the gold medal challenges.

"Year of the Triad" picks up from where the main game left off and is a nice continuation of the story. It's content feels more substantial than that of "Nightmare" and the only complaint I have is that I experienced a minor issue when going for all the new collectibles that forced me to restart and try again. No such issues the second time. It's emphasis on police work provides a nice new and subtle on the main gameplay.

I found Sleeping Dogs to be almost immediately captivating and it quickly became one my favorite open-world games. I loved the character Wei Shen and found his adventure to be compelling in both the gameplay and writing side of things. While GTA comparisons are inevitable, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by thing of this as just GTA: China. It's much more original than that as it has it's own distinct identity that comes from how it embraces another culture. Something that allows for different little flourishes of creativity and fun. When you consider all of the extra content on the disc that you won't get from buying the previous console generation's version, I'd say this definitive edition is a must. Truly one of my favorite games of all time.

well made game. kung fu, parkour, racing, shooting, pork buns, triad stuff.. its different from other open world rpgs. not as overwhelming. story moves along at a good pace. Not too many side quests to distract from the main story. The game needs a prequel to show why Wei Shen left HK in the first place. Needs the RDR2 trratment

My problem is this. YES putting all of the DLC and extras in one place is nice, Okay the graphics are a bit better, BUT as a whole I didn't think it was enough to make it a worthy port to Xbox One or PS4.
My advice is this… if you've never played it I would give it a 9 and say buy it, if you owned it previously on Xbox 360 or PS3 save your money and invest in something better, you won't find anything more than nostalgic value here.

I was surprised by how much fun I had with this game. I was actually interested in the story and found the upgrade system rewarding. Gun battles are pretty generic but the fighting system was a lot of fun. I thought the story kind of feel short at the end and the DLC was terrible but I am still happy that I played the game. Would recommend to anyone looking for a fun open world experience.

Having got this for free form xbox live, i can confirm this would have been worth paying for. Interesting story and great game overall. Only drawback are the few glitches and bugs which still persist despite this being "definitive edition". Im actually quite sad about united front games shutting down a few months ago as I would have gladly paid for the sequel.

Free this month on Xbox Gold and I find it more fun the GTA5.
I experienced a game breaking bug in the story, and can't proceed. Hopefully a reinstall resolves the bug.

Its refreshing to drive on the left side of the road in somewhere other than the US.
Melee combat can be insanely infuriating.
The idea of balancing cop and criminal is nice.

Seemingly inspired by the Asian thriller "Infernal Affairs", the game places the player in the shoes of Wei Shen, a young undercover cop that is tasked with bringing down the ruthless Triad gangs. Gambling, fight clubs, cockfights and street races are some illegal activities that you can partake in. You can also participate in police assignments such as making arrests and taking down threats. In between missions, players can upgrade Wei's abilities by visiting martial-art dojos. And everyday activities like singing at karaoke bars, buying cars and going on dates can also be done.

"Sleeping Dogs" is a single player game without any online multiplayer modes, but it has about as many options as the similar "Watch Dogs". In terms of story, it's above most titles of its ilk. Gameplay wise, it is solid, yet a bit dated. This isn't something that feels current-gen at all. Overall though, this is a remaster that works best for those who didn't play the original 2012 release. It's a better game than any of the "True Crime" titles and about as good as "Watch Dogs". Now that it's priced at only $20, it's a must buy. I'd give it an 8 out of 10

This game was added to the Xbox Live Games with Gold program in November 2016 and, because I am a avid gamer and I can't say no to a free game, I decided to pick it up again. Upon loading the game up on my Xbox One and seeing the main menu and watching the opening cut scene, I immediately remembered how much I enjoyed this game back on the 360.

After playing it for a couple of hours however I realised that although this game plays well, looks great and has a addictive quality I just couldn't get into it like I once did. This has happened with quite a few of the re-releases we have received in recent years (GTAV, Darksiders, Metro).

If you haven't already played this game then I highly recommend you pick it up and give it a go because there is a fantastic game to be had here. However, if you have already played it and are considering revisiting it, I wouldn't bother. There are a few fantastic re-releases out there (DmC, Skyrim, Tomb Raider) but this may only be for people who haven't played it previously.

    New to it - 9/10
    Played it before - 7/10

As for the game itself, it can be said that this is an Asian-style GTA. The inspiration for the game came from Korean crime films, primarily the film "Infernal Affairs". The open-world world is quite detailed and alive. The map is full of side missions, police missions and interesting events, such as the inevitable night street races. The fight with opponents is solid and interaction with objects on the map is enabled, so that the player can kill the opponent with a hydrant, cut him on a tree cutting machine or hang him by the crane of a passing truck. The possibilities are endless. The story itself is solid and follows a under-covert police officer involved in the mafia business. The missions are not boring, they are not repetitive, and they also contain a nice dose of humor. Too bad Square Enix didn’t make a new sequel.

    SRB:
Open-world svet je poprilično detaljan i živ.
