The MasterChief Collection was all I wanted. Replay old memories with new graphics and sound effects. The new cinematics really adds up to the game. Plus, you have all 3 other games with it. It's a very good deal overall for only 60$. It's a must have for your game collection on your xbox one.

The only thing negative things are maybe loading that are too long, sometimes some FPS drop

The re-release of the main four Halo games isn't just a scheme to generate big revenue for Microsoft, the Master Chief Collection actually revitalizes each Halo game and makes multiplayer fun again. With an excellent matchmaking system that taps into just over 100 maps (106 total if I'm not mistaken) and a clever playlist system, there will be no shortage of fun and no abundance of redundancy from playing the same starter list of maps that most games suffer from. If you've played Halo and enjoyed it, this is the easiest recommendation anyone could ever make. If you've never played Halo or were too young to have gone back and played the first couple of games, you owe it to yourself to see what made this franchise what it is today. It's Halo 2 that gets the "anniversary treatment", so you'll notice the biggest jump in visuals there. It doesn't hurt that purchasing this collection also nets you an invite to the Halo 5 beta and the Halo: Nightfall mini-series produced by Ridley Scott. Expand

The redone Halo 2 cutscenes look beautiful and it was a pleasure to play through the campaign again. For that alone and the multiplayer (which features more then a hundred maps!) halo-veterans probably would enjoy this collection.
I also recommend this collection to anyone who has not yet played any Halo game and is looking for a way to change that.

Hours of well packed content ahead of me... I am as giddy as I was when I first played halo. thankyou 343i, for treating my favorite franchise with such respect.

The game often studders in frame rate, suffers from some desync, and Audio stuttering as well loading into games. The Black overlay that fades out once into a game looks shoddy and done by an amateur as it doesnt cover all the screen and leaves lines around the outside very clearly.
At Launch, this will be constant frustration for mutiplayer, but i would assume they will work quickly to fix these issues, still a Launch of a game is the most important time and to have microsoft backing you with server support and to still have these issues...Its a bit of a disgrace.

10's on this game are unacceptable. I don't care how much of a nostalgia boner it gives you. Multiplayer literally does not work, and its been three days. This is unacceptable as I have been able to get into a match for that time. Just ended up selling it and getting CoD:AW but it looks like its having similar issues.

Complete and utter failure. Game is broken and unplayable. The matchmaking is not what we've become accustomed to with what we had in Halo games by Bungie. 343i is a disgrace.

The next day after 8 hours of downloading I was finally able to play. I tried to invite my friends to a party and it didn't work. So I tried again. And again. We ended up playing only 2 games in 2 hours. Do the difficult math and that is one matchmaking game an hour. I had more fun just using the xbox as a cell phone to chat with my friends and make jokes while we endlessly tried to get the game to work. I miss the good old days where 16 people could connect with ease. Now all I do is accept an invite to connect and not connect. What is the point of inviting someone if it doesn't even work? I would rather play solo Sunset Overdrive than try to play multiplayer Halo. You should never hear anyone say that in your life. If you don't believe me then go see for yourself. Go try to connect to a game of team swat, after 45 minutes of waiting come back on and post for yourself. If you can prove that you played 3 games in 45 minutes then contact me and I will personally give you 100 dollars via Paypal. That is how confident I am. The only reason I rated this game a 3 is because of the legacy. Back to Call of Duty and Destiny whose makers actually do things right. Expand

I can now see why TLOU: Remastered received a much higher score than the Halo: Master Chief Collection on Metacritic.

Quality over quantity. Then again, TLOU has plenty of content as well. Halo is just too outdated in this day and age. Let Halo 5 be the sand to cover up the grave that is Halo.

I have never understood the whole halo franchise personally I have played each game and although I thought they were good games I was far from blown away. The presentation upgrades are pretty standard, halo 1 and 2 have had the most substantial upgrade with higher resolution textures and running overall at higher resolutions, however I could tell straight away that halo 2 was not full hd and I was a little disappointed by the muddy and overall clarity of the graphics, however the sound is excellent and the soundtracks are some of the best I have heard in a game. Now the multiplayer...not a fan, the shooting mechanics are stiff and outdated but all the halo fans insist they want it untouched but after playing the halo 4 beta it seems they have finally done right thing and stopped listening to all the nostalgic fans. If you haven't played a lot of halo multiplayer in the past expect a complete grind of an experience I recommend just playing the campaign modes and find another multiplayer shooter. Expand

For many that was a BIG SELLING point.

For others, it was just a Betrayal. Which, coincidentally, seems to have sped up the Halo 5 respawn timer, which it clearly should have delayed the respawn of another Halo title. It's little inaccuracies like these that make me think they don't play a lot of Halo.

    Multiplayer:

I purchased this game in February, after I heard most of the initial release bugs were taken care of. However, with regard to the main reason I purchased this game, the multiplayer, I was severely disappointed. I am competitive gamer, meaning, I derive gaming pleasure from a ranked multiplayer experience. At the time I was playing from February to April, there was only ranked halo 2 team slayer. The ranked playlists were plagued with a plethora of issues ranging from the inability to spawn (when other players were, enabling them to get free spawn kills and take control of the map), games randomly ending, an unbalanced matchmaking system (a group of 1s and a 7 against a team of 10s and a 12), and no punishment for those who quit. These are just a few of the flaws I found. 343 kept promising patches, fixes, etc, however, it seemed like the patches never really fixed anything. Up until late April, I continued to play and rank up in halo 2 competitive slayer. However, a few weeks ago, 343 said they were resetting all ranks in halo 2 team slayer and adding another patch. So, all the time and work I put in to reach level 33 (not high, I know, but I put in a lot of time), was erased overnight. For what reason? I don't know. I continued to play, but, it seemed like the patch had fixed nothing. The multiplayer was still plagued by the same issues, and, there also seemed to be an issue with host lag (which hadn't been prominent before). As such, I lost all interest in the game. With regard to patches, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

On a separate note, I had to re-install the game twice (bought a digital copy). Two or three times, xbox one wouldnt recognize that I owned the game. So, I had to re-install (which took a few hours). I'm not sure if this was an Xbox One issue, or a Halo Master Chief issue; regardless, it added to the unpleasant experience.

    Single Player Campaign:

With regard to the single player, I didn't have any problems. That's the only part of the game that function properly.

    Conclusion:

Save your money if you're in it for a competitive multiplayer experience.

The one complaint I have is that in halo 3, the graphics are dated, and i know, graphics aren't everything, but it is a bit of a jump going from the gorgeous graphics of halo 2 anniversary to Halo 3. But Halo 3 does have, in my opinion, the best campaign.

And Halo Nightfall, the live action mini-series that comes with it? AWFUL! Characters behave in manners inconsistent with their roles (Elites don't act like Elites, ONI operatives strolling along when supposedly on a secret op) and the CGI elements looked cheap. I've been a fan of the story since the beginning, reading every book, playing every game, and even looking past some of the plot inconsistencies that crop up from time to time. I couldn't even start the 3rd episode of Nightfall though, it was that bad.

So that means this game consists of the three and a half campaigns (since Spartan Ops aren't available yet for Halo 4), broken matchmaking, and a terrible mini-series. Disappointed doesn't begin to describe my feelings for what was once my favorite universe to immerse myself in.

I've been a Halo fan all my life, I've grown up playing Halo. Halo has been my most played game series since the first Halo: Combat Evolved came out in 2001. Halo is a legendary game series that deserves anniversary edition games. Halo: Combat Evolved received that proper anniversary, Halo 2 however did not.

Halo MCC is riddled in bugs, the date is 3/8/2015 and the game still suffers matchmaking issues, campaign issues and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Regardless of these issues that first greeted me with the game I continued to play it, I wasn't going to let chief down, I love Halo and I was going to stick it out. I played the hell out of MCC and today I'm throwing in the towel and giving it its well earned poor rating.

    Current bugs experienced in MCC:

    Matchmaking:
    1. Uneven teams
    2. Forever loading times
    3. Random disconnects from games
    4. Random placements of games (you can search for the halo 3 playlist and somehow play another playlist)
    5. Terrible hitscan in halo 2 matchmaking still
    6. Broken party system, if you're looking to play this game with friends you will experience long delays in getting a party together and will also have to repeat the process of inviting your friends due to issues with how MCC handles party play. You can look to play with friends and it will randomly displace you on separate teams and sometimes even place you in separate games.
    7. In-game voice chat will randomly fail, that's right, sometimes you can't even talk to your friends or team mates in game and its not from disconnected mics.

There are many more bugs to be found in this game, I mentioned matchmaking first because that seems to be the main concern for most gamers these days, however I play halo for more than the online services it has to offer, I love the Halo story and even here you will find countless random bugs.

    1. Unplayable online co-op with friends, its not an internet problem, for some reason different campaigns will fail to load or when you go to play them they will freeze your xbox. Sometimes Halo 3 Crows nest which seems to have this issue the worst will experience the worst multiplayer co-op lag while other missions work fine.
    2. Random disconnects during online campaign, you can randomly disconnect playing with your friends during your missions, very annoying especially for halo 2 legendary where the campaign is the hardest.
    3. Unexpected map failures for halo 4, if loading halo 4 campaign missions you may have difficulty with saving your campaign games. After saving and coming back to play said missions later they will crash your MCC. This happens especially often with Halo 4 "reclaimer" mission and I highly recommend beating it on one shot.

Campaign and Multiplayer aren't the only areas effected by bugs, Halo Spartan OPs suffers from the similar random campaign lag where some missions work while others don't due to unknown lag. I'd normally classify this as a network issue but for the fact some spartan ops missions work clean while others will randomly fail to load, crash or just totally be unplayable due to random lag I won't classify it as a network lag issue on the player side at least.

Forge mode is the last thing I'll complain about here, in every halo game switching between character and creator modes are relatively smooth and fast. While working with the Halo 2 Anniversary engine you can experience easily up to a waiting time of a minute before you switch modes from creator to character. This issue makes testing things in forge and forging things very inefficient and an overall waste of time for most forgers.

Halo MCC has only one really good thing, the Halo2 remastered cut-scenes are fantastic, the game looks brilliant but is a miserable failure on the actual playing side. As a dedicated halo fan I can only say I'm horribly and sadly disappointed with the outcome of what should have been the Xbox One powerhouse game of the year easily. MCC has 4 great games, 3 of them arguably being some of the most fantastic games ever created put together into a terrible mosh of bugs and unreliability. When I heard of this game being created I thought to myself "this game is going to be perfect, there is no way 343 could screw this up for us." I was wrong, very very wrong. This is clear disrespect to the franchise from 343, having the Halo 5 guardians beta up while Halo MCC was suffering major and still is suffering major issues truly shows where 343 stands. 343 doesn't care about us fans, they just want to make money. Do not pre-order Halo 5. We cannot allow them to give us another game like this, if you're going to purchase Halo 5. Purchase it after release, we can't guarantee a playable game from them anymore so they shouldn't be guaranteed our money.

Multiplayer does not work, co-op online sucks due to the delay. 343 started out great with the Halo Anniversary remake of the original Halo, tailed off with an below average shooter in Halo 4 (not deserving to be in this collection in my opinion) and has now come out with this broken trash which should have never passed quality control. I have lost faith in critics who still give games such as this good scores. Yes, I would give this game a 9/10 or higher BUT IT DOESN'T WORK so why all the high scores I wonder?

I'll give this game a 4 for attempting to put four games into one for a generous price. Still does not excuse releasing a broken game for the holiday rush. When it works, its a 10 in my books but the multiplayer doesn't work (which is what I want to play, just like many other people here who are giving bad reviews) and something tells me this a sign of things to come from 343 industries. After this game and Halo 4 I have honestly lost complete interest in Halo 5. I think it's about time for me to throw in the towel with Halo, just like I have already done with Gears and CoD. Halo died with Halo 3 and you are blind if you don't see that. Move on just like Bungie did.

The sheer amount of single player and multi-player content included here is absolutely mind numbing. Best of all, its just $60 (I only paid $48 through Best Buy's Gamer Club). MS could have easily charged $50-60 bucks just for the Halo 2 update. Again, in all my years of gaming I have never seen a better deal than the Master Chief Collection.

How any Halo fan can say no to this package is utterly beyond my comprehension! If I could give this game an 11 out of 10, I would. As for myself, the long road to 100% completion is already well underway! Thank you Microsoft and 343 studios!!

The story is solid and of course, you have to keep in mind that this is a game from 13 years ago, so don't create cinematic expectations to that version. Yes, I don’t know how but 343 managed to make Halo 2 anniversary’s network as bad as Halo 2 did 10 years ago. While the network issues aren’t quite as bad as Betafield… I mean, Battlefield 4’s, it’s not the best. Thankfully, they’ve promised a patch to be released on 13th November, just two days after launch, which will fix the reported network problems. Given this, I'm disregarding them in my score.

If you are tired of the current FPS games and all the ‘Modern Military Shooters’ that are floating around now, grab Halo. Is it dated in some ways? Definitely, but in others that’s just a breath of fresh air in the stuffy environment created by companies rehashing the same story several dozen times and releasing it under a different name (I’m looking at you, Activision). Surprisingly, Halo holds up brilliantly and puts most of our modern FPS games to shame

For example being able to go back and play Halo 1 online as it was meant to be played was a very rewarding experience and really took me back to my childhood.

The graphics and setting are absolutely beautiful, and the music is stunning, even though it's diverse from the past Halo's. The story of Halo 4 is excellent, most notably the moments with Master Chief and Cortana where their chemistry is like no other. The multiplayer is a huge aspect of Halo. Yes, it had issues at launch but now there's no problems with finding games. The game finding system is great because there are many modes and categories to choose from. The only complaint I have with the online game modes is that there's no classic "Grift Ball," I loved that game. Halo: MCC is a must have for anyone who owns an Xbox One and you'll play for a long time, and you'll have fun doing it in 1080p and 60fps. Expand

Basically if your a fan of halo, x-box, shooters etc. Buy this game. It's a few hundred dollars worth of content for, what like $60 smackeroos. Pretty much think of this, 4 games, all there dlc, a free tv series, a beta to another game... ALSO THE GAMES ARE REMASTERED AND CAN SWITCH TO DIFFERENT GRAPHICS!! Got carried away but this game is defiantly worth the price and time, buy it!

Unfortunately, it was launched too earlier, to meet some corporate-business suit deadline. Multiplayer has effectively not worked for me since I bought it 9 days ago. This aside, it is still a fundamentally rock solid game and the glory days of my gaming youth have come flooding back home again. Like many have said; Halo 2 Anniversary is the highlight of the collection, and I couldn't agree more. I would have rated this a solid 9, but releasing the game too early has been a slight let-down. Remastered H2 is quite well-done. H1 has not aged well at all and is still incredibly broken. H1 and H2 are both very repetitive. H3, H4, and ODST are much better in that aspect. This collection is worth it for those last 3 games.

The Halo universe has an amazing background story. However, it's not that well executed in the games. I've played the games, replayed them, and re-read the Wikis numerous times, and I still have trouble identifying what's going on the games because of the constant corridors and levels that look exactly alike.

Overall, with the bug fixes, it's quite a strong collection and still a must-buy for anyone who has yet to play the Halo series. Enjoy the collection for the single-player experience.

Lastly, as a PC gamer, the mechanics of Halo multiplayer suck. No lean/cover, poor aiming, etc. On top of that, match making and speeds are poor.

The story of a pack as Halo. Four complete games in one. The first, third and fourth part is actually only received minor updates. The second part, however, has been fully customized. New graphics and videos are included. The more players there are 100 routes or segments. However, in the beginning it was very bad for the multiplayer part, because we had to wait a long time for a game.

The only reason I'm not giving this game a higher rating is because there are a few bugs (included from the first 2 games) that were included in the remaster that are yet to be fixed at the time of this review. There was also an issue with matchmaking early in the launch (causing players to sit in the lobby for upwards to 30 minutes waiting for a game) but it seems to have been corrected. Expand

I have to be honest here, after 4 months, the game is still unplayable online, too bad it got overrated like it always did, to me this game deserves a 5, why? the game has a very bad online matchmaking that will keep you wait more than you actually play, I thought "the cloud" and the dedicated servers was something they did advertise with the Halo collection, it was all bullsh!t.

The focus of gameplay for me was jumping back into split screen campaign mode for the remastered Halo CE and Halo 2. This did not disappoint in this area. Would I purchase a remastered HALO CE and Halo 2 for single player probably not, if you missed the 360 releases getting Halo 3 / 4 is a good. Experienced crashing even after massive updates approximately 1 per play through the campaigns.

After playing and completing Halo 1 and half way through Halo 2 I can honestly say this is one of the best shoot em ups I've played.

The Graphics have clearly been updated from the orginals, but it still isnt the most highly graphical game I have ever played, but its been updated enough to make it playable in todays genres, I'm not going to sit here and say this game is anywhere in the ball park of GTA, but it doesnt try to be. If you want a game where you can sit back and unload mountains of bulletts into random creatures and have a laugh doing so then this is a game for you.

This game comes in as an easy 7-8, and find it impossible for people to suggest otherwise! Plus its 4 games in 1!

I'm giving this game a 9 just because I love the single player. Playing this in co-op is the best and the first two installments give a nice sense of nostalgia. For me, this was worth the price (didn't pay full retail price though) as I did not own a 360 and I missed Halo 3 and 4. I have spent quite a lot of time playing this and I just can't get enough.

Why is my grade "only a 9 then?

Why is my grade "only a 9 then? I consider 9 a high grade, but a few problems are preventing me from giving it a 10. As we all know, the multiplayer. I bought the game a month after its release. First, I completed the single player campaigns. I guess I missed the worst part of the problem but it still had matchmaking and stability issues.

The second shortcoming is that FPS drops once in a while, in co-op even below 30 so it really is noticeable. Then again I don't mind it that much when the game works like a charm. I like it. I love it. I can't wait for Halo 5. Even with these problems this is, for me personally, the best Xbox One exclusive out now and one of the best considering all platforms (at least for last year).

The campaign is good fun but when i play with my friend not far away we CONSTANTLY HAVE PROBLEMS! we both have brilliant internet connections but every single time we play we spend an hour on loading screens and give up.

Personal belief: this was my first halo game, so i am a noob. i found it constantly hard to feel like i was contributing to my team when playing online because i struggle to understand somethings that are very irritating.
Example: sometimes im constantly shooting at someone WITH ACCURACY, they take two shots at me and im dead.

I personally couldn't wait for this game, but as a noob at halo i found it very hard to play online and certain things also baffled me how unfair it sometimes feels. It made me feel completely useless... i have raged quit soooo many times with this game

The campaigns are fun when they work, but co op online with a friend seemed to be a struggle for Halo 2 especially, this being because of the graphics

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was my first game ever on the original Xbox console. Loved it to bits. The second HALO was good but I was losing interest in games. When I got my xbox360 I never realy bothered with HALO 3 and by the time HALO 4 came out I had lost interest again in gaming. I never playedthe multiplayer parts of any of these games.

I couldn't resist a complete collectors eddition of all 4 games and I must say I am having a blast! These are really good games and next to forza and GTA5 the best right now on XBOX one. Still haven't played the online mode, so it never concerned me that that part of the game was (apparently) broken at first.

The package is wel presented and just feels like a treasure trove. It's amazing how consistent the games all feek together in terms of gameplay yet each one is a fresh experience. All games are really worth playing although HALO CE does feel a bit dated and the cut scenes stutter really badly. That should not happen, they are not taxing for the system, just badly ported. For me that knocks off a point from a perfect 10.

The point is knocked off because however good I think it is, I don't believe this is a game for everyone no matter what. The story isn't good enough to justify that statement. To me, a game with a 9 or higher should be no-brainer must buy. Sadly many professional critics use a 9 too easily.

However, if you for a really tight shooter (at least for what I can attest toi in campaign mode) with some great level design (love the great set pieces with the vehicles) the I can highly recommend this game.
