    10's on this game are unacceptable. I don't care how much of a nostalgia boner it gives you. Multiplayer literally does not work, and its been three days. This is unacceptable as I have been able to get into a match for that time. Just ended up selling it and getting CoD:AW but it looks like its having similar issues.

    Complete and utter failure. Game is broken and unplayable. The matchmaking is not what we've become accustomed to with what we had in Halo games by Bungie. 343i is a disgrace.

    the multiplayer is broken- you can't see your friends online, you can't join games, i can't even get into a multiplayer game by myself. so unless you want to play the campaign why buy the game until they fix it?

    I was overjoyed at the fact that the Halo Collection was coming out. I could finally have all of the remastered games in one place. I went to the midnight release and got back around 12:30 I couldn't wait to play. I inserted the game and waited three hours for the massive 88 gigabyte download to install. It allows you to go into the game until its fully downloaded only to get your hopes upI was overjoyed at the fact that the Halo Collection was coming out. I could finally have all of the remastered games in one place. I went to the midnight release and got back around 12:30 I couldn't wait to play. The next day after 8 hours of downloading I was finally able to play. I tried to invite my friends to a party and it didn't work. So I tried again. And again. We ended up playing only 2 games in 2 hours. Do the difficult math and that is one matchmaking game an hour. I had more fun just using the xbox as a cell phone to chat with my friends and make jokes while we endlessly tried to get the game to work. I miss the good old days where 16 people could connect with ease. Now all I do is accept an invite to connect and not connect. What is the point of inviting someone if it doesn't even work? I would rather play solo Sunset Overdrive than try to play multiplayer Halo. You should never hear anyone say that in your life. If you don't believe me then go see for yourself. Go try to connect to a game of team swat, after 45 minutes of waiting come back on and post for yourself. If you can prove that you played 3 games in 45 minutes then contact me and I will personally give you 100 dollars via Paypal. That is how confident I am. The only reason I rated this game a 3 is because of the legacy. Back to Call of Duty and Destiny whose makers actually do things right.… Expand

    Most frustrating gaming experience ever. Took forever to install. Many of the original mechanics are broken such as crouch jumping in halo 1. Matchmaking just doesn't work. Can't they figure this out with a closed beta??

    Halo is on a decline and the master chief collection shows that. Halo 1 and 2 as good games show the how forlorn halo 3 and 4 are. Still halo 2 doesn't even run at native 1080p.

    I can now see why TLOU: Remastered received a much higher score than the Halo: Master Chief Collection on Metacritic.

    Quality over quantity. Then again, TLOU has plenty of content as well. Halo is just too outdated in this day and age. Let Halo 5 be the sand to cover up the grave that is Halo.

    Definitely worth buying if you've never played halo because of how much content comes on the disk. Otherwise I would say pass unless you're a die hard fan...in which case you've already bought the game... but whatever.    … Expand

    6 months in, still not on dedicated servers.

    For many that was a BIG SELLING point.

    For others, it was just a Betrayal. Which, coincidentally, seems to have sped up the Halo 5 respawn timer, which it clearly should have delayed the respawn of another Halo title. It's little inaccuracies like these that make me think they don't play a lot of Halo.

    I am writing this after the latest patch that was to fix matchmaking times, and I still am unable to be placed in a match in under 5 minutes. Other bugs that I have found, a Hornet does not ascend when holding the thumbstick forward in Halo 3 campaign, requiring the player to scrape along cliffs until they are high enough to advance to the next area; when attempting to view the terminalI am writing this after the latest patch that was to fix matchmaking times, and I still am unable to be placed in a match in under 5 minutes. I've been a fan of the story since the beginning, reading every book, playing every game, and even looking past some of the plot inconsistencies that crop up from time to time. I couldn't even start the 3rd episode of Nightfall though, it was that bad.

    So that means this game consists of the three and a half campaigns (since Spartan Ops aren't available yet for Halo 4), broken matchmaking, and a terrible mini-series. Disappointed doesn't begin to describe my feelings for what was once my favorite universe to immerse myself in.    … Expand

    Not much more than a nostalgia act. Compared to other currently available games, it just feels and looks "old". Menus, sound, graphics, and aiming system are all clunky

    I was so excited for this to launch and rekindle my love of Halo and hop on again with all my buddies; But instead its been 3 months, games still broken and everyone has moved on. So disappointing.

    I have been a Halo fan for a long time and this game is a HUGE disappointment. I'm pissed at the $65.00 I spent on a game that doesn't have a functioning matchmaking system. Worst part, they added SWAT and now matchmaking freezes everything. How about you not add new features until you fix the one you have?!?!? **** you HALO!

    Halo MCC is riddled in bugs, the date is 3/8/2015 and the game still suffers matchmaking issues, campaign issues and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Regardless of these issues that first greeted me with the game I continued to play it, I wasn't going to let chief down, I love Halo and I was going to stick it out. I played the hell out of MCC and today I'm throwing in the towel and giving it its well earned poor rating.

    Current bugs experienced in MCC:

    Matchmaking:
    1. Uneven teams
    2. Forever loading times
    3. Random disconnects from games
    4. Random placements of games (you can search for the halo 3 playlist and somehow play another playlist)
    5. Terrible hitscan in halo 2 matchmaking still
    6. Broken party system, if you're looking to play this game with friends you will experience long delays in getting a party together and will also have to repeat the process of inviting your friends due to issues with how MCC handles party play. You can look to play with friends and it will randomly displace you on separate teams and sometimes even place you in separate games.
    7. In-game voice chat will randomly fail, that's right, sometimes you can't even talk to your friends or team mates in game and its not from disconnected mics.

    There are many more bugs to be found in this game, I mentioned matchmaking first because that seems to be the main concern for most gamers these days, however I play halo for more than the online services it has to offer, I love the Halo story and even here you will find countless random bugs.

    1. Unplayable online co-op with friends, its not an internet problem, for some reason different campaigns will fail to load or when you go to play them they will freeze your xbox. Sometimes Halo 3 Crows nest which seems to have this issue the worst will experience the worst multiplayer co-op lag while other missions work fine.
    2. Random disconnects during online campaign, you can randomly disconnect playing with your friends during your missions, very annoying especially for halo 2 legendary where the campaign is the hardest.
    3. Unexpected map failures for halo 4, if loading halo 4 campaign missions you may have difficulty with saving your campaign games. After saving and coming back to play said missions later they will crash your MCC. This happens especially often with Halo 4 "reclaimer" mission and I highly recommend beating it on one shot.

    Campaign and Multiplayer aren't the only areas effected by bugs, Halo Spartan OPs suffers from the similar random campaign lag where some missions work while others don't due to unknown lag. I'd normally classify this as a network issue but for the fact some spartan ops missions work clean while others will randomly fail to load, crash or just totally be unplayable due to random lag I won't classify it as a network lag issue on the player side at least.

    Forge mode is the last thing I'll complain about here, in every halo game switching between character and creator modes are relatively smooth and fast. While working with the Halo 2 Anniversary engine you can experience easily up to a waiting time of a minute before you switch modes from creator to character. This issue makes testing things in forge and forging things very inefficient and an overall waste of time for most forgers.

    Halo MCC has only one really good thing, the Halo2 remastered cut-scenes are fantastic, the game looks brilliant but is a miserable failure on the actual playing side. As a dedicated halo fan I can only say I'm horribly and sadly disappointed with the outcome of what should have been the Xbox One powerhouse game of the year easily. MCC has 4 great games, 3 of them arguably being some of the most fantastic games ever created put together into a terrible mosh of bugs and unreliability. When I heard of this game being created I thought to myself "this game is going to be perfect, there is no way 343 could screw this up for us." I was wrong, very very wrong. This is clear disrespect to the franchise from 343, having the Halo 5 guardians beta up while Halo MCC was suffering major and still is suffering major issues truly shows where 343 stands. 343 doesn't care about us fans, they just want to make money. Do not pre-order Halo 5. We cannot allow them to give us another game like this, if you're going to purchase Halo 5. Purchase it after release, we can't guarantee a playable game from them anymore so they shouldn't be guaranteed our money.    … Expand

When it works, its a 10 in my books but the multiplayer doesn't work (which is what I want to play, just like many other people here who are giving bad reviews) and something tells me this a sign of things to come from 343 industries. After this game and Halo 4 I have honestly lost complete interest in Halo 5. I think it's about time for me to throw in the towel with Halo, just like I have already done with Gears and CoD.     The online for this game is broken, which is the main feature in a Halo series. 343 has so much to do that I wouldn't even know where to begin. Will change the score when they fix this broke garbage

The problem is the game's multi player is still not working properly after a week, I have yet to play matchmaking with any friends because it boots you or won't let you join.     Never played Halo online before. Only played the original Halo years ago in single player. Bought it day one because CoD was awful this year and I wanted a FPS to play. I was able to get into one room where the game was hacked (one team had something like 50 kills, the other team had 0, and they took no damage). Couldn't get in to another game. Tried it a month later. Couldn't get inNever played Halo online before. Only played the original Halo years ago in single player.     Even after years of patches, this remastering is still buggy and awful. Tons of glitches through out the entire saga. Many crashes also occurred. This is by far one of the worst remasters I have ever played.

Seemed cool at first, but there is one glaring flaw. If you switch modes during a cut scene you will end up terribly out of sync and miss parts of the scene altogether. The new cut scenes are indeed impressive, but why include the ability to switch graphics if it clearly isn't going to sync up.

    Moving onward.

    I made it through the first 2 chapters on heroic difficulty. Started the third chapter got about halfway through and saved my game. I came back later and it started me at the beginning of chapter 3. Needless to say I was not pleased to have to start over.

    Campaign:
    Pros:
    Graphics are nice
    All levels unlocked at the start

    Cons:
    Issues with checkpoint saves, having to start over.
    Issues with H2 anniversary switching modes during cut scenes.
    Issues with achievements not unlocking

    Now on to multiplayer. I was not able to attempt multiplayer on release day due to the huge 15GB update. Call me silly but I still think games on consoles should just run right off the bat without lengthy install times. If I want that experience I will do so on PC. PC installers are also 10x faster.

    11/12/2014 I attempted to find a match in halo 2 classic. I waited hours and nothing happened!! I tried numerous match types/lobbies and never got anything. Very disappointing and frustrating.

    11/13/2014 Attempted to find a match in halo 2 classic. After about 10 minutes it put me into a H2 Anniversary map against an outnumbered overpowered team. 4v2 Why wasn't it 3v3!?!?
    I tried another search and it took just as long. Finally got into halo 2 classic match and... LAG, lag everywhere.
    Tried yet again in Halo 3. Took another 5-8 minutes to find players. The match started and there was initially lots of lag, but it got better as the game went on.
    Throughout all these sessions it was clear that there is no ranking whatsoever. So matches where terribly unbalanced and therefore not very fun.

    I would not expect this from a game I paid $63 for. I feel cheated and screwed over. This was clearly just a money grab from Microsoft. It I want to experience some classic halo I guess I will stick to Halo 2 Vista on PC and Halo 3 on Xbox360. This is not worth anyone’s purchase.    … Expand

    Even though of the network problems and a few bugs that 343i is currently dealing with. Remember you have 4 campaigns to play 2 of them being completely remastered for the Xbox One. The network problems will be fixed in the next few hours/days depending how fast they work. So just wait for the online to work and then it will be the ultimate Halo experience

    The online mode just does not work! And only hear excuses from developer! So far, I have not been able to play an online game even! I do not advise buying this game. Not until the developer fix this serious problem!

    In it's current state the game is highly unplayable if you care at all about online multiplayer. Even if you just want to do co op campaign with a friend I have bad news for you. Halo 1 and 2 co op has about 1 second of input delay for whoever isn't host. With Halo 3 the lag and framerate is just unbearable. Halo really deserves better than this.

    The multiplayer is completely destroyed.
    You can't play with friends at all.
    Even if you're playing on the same TV, you'll end up on opposite teams.
    If you can get a game in the first place.
    The Halo series has been my favorite set of games.
    I'm very sad to see 343 ruin it.

The game simply does not work and with each patch that is released more of the game stops working. At first after buying the game I could not play multiplayer but I was forgiving because all these triple AAs someone who loved every game of the Halo series I was genuinely excited for the Master Chief Collection and so it is with a heavy heart that I am forced to write this negative review. At first after buying the game I could not play multiplayer but I was forgiving because all these triple A multiplayer games have problems in their first week or two. I also could re experience he single player campaigns in HD so I wasn't denied all play. But after patch number 1 I can't even access the single player campaigns. Patch #2 brought longer loading times and hour long sessions for match making, when the multiplayer worked at all but still with a non functional single player option.

    This game has been a frustration and a major disappointment. 343 need to remember that their fans have played all these games before and never experienced these massive problems in the past. For these errors to persist is inexcusable. There is simply no apology or justification for releasing an incomplete and broken game. This is a discourtesy to the fans, to the creators of Halo and to 343 as artists. This collection was supposed to celebrate Master Chief and Halo, but all its done is tarnish a brilliant legacy.

    1. Navigating menu's is a challenge. It's definitely manageable, but not user-friendly in the least. Often times the menu will even glitch and there will be several overlays overlapping and making it even more difficult. Also, the game crashes on occasion.

    2. Matchmaking is still broken a whole week later, with random queue times usually lasting longer than any actual match you may get into. Honestly, the entire multiplayer is broken. Having friends join your party is even difficult due to the glitchy social system in the game.

    3. Back to the multiplayer.... If I wanted to play a screwed up, glitchy version of Halo, at this point, I think I would have rather preferred to play the original Halo 2, where the glitches were at least enjoyable! You all can forget super bouncing (for the most part... you can still do it, but not nearly in the same manner as before as it is much, much more difficult), swordflying, and almost all the other fun glitches.

    4. So, from what i have covered, we are pretty much left with campaign and forge. Now I havent completed the entire campaign, but as far as i can tell, it is pretty much what it is, Halo: CE --> Halo 4. I enjoy the campaign, but I sure as hell did not pay $60 to play by myself through it and call the game good. Campaign can only entertain for so long...

    5. As for forge, I will be honest; this is by far the best forge in any Halo yet, but what do you know? Its broken as well. Saving maps is a hassle in itself. You press "Save as" and it doesn't even let you name it, it just throws it in your list of saved maps as the original title, forcing you to seek out your creations by date, and that's if yore lucky! Just recently i spent nearly an hour and a half working on a map, and come save time, I press "Save as" and receive no prompt to name it as usual, but i also don't get a message saying the map was even saved. As i expected, my hard work was for nothing, and for someone who forges as much as I do, this is VERY frustrating.

    To come to a conclusion: I am so bewildered how this game has received so may positive scores... It was released in a incomplete form, and for such a large franchise, it is incredibly disappointing. If you want the game for the campaign and nightfall series, sure, go right ahead and drop your money on this, but don't look forward to any of the other Halo experiences (at least not for a while.) I wish so bad that I could give this "game" a zero rating, but I can't disrespect one of my favorite games growing up. My advice to all of you interested: Wait this one out. They are bound to fix all this trash eventually, and hopefully the game will improve, but at this point I am quite unsatisfied.

    This game gets a 4 because the online matchmaking component is completely and inexcusably broken. It commonly takes 2-5 minutes to get into a game - assuming it finds one at all! From their perspective why bother? Everyone who was going to buy the game already did; they stand to make no more money in cleaning up this incomplete mess.

    Thankfully, the single player seems to work fine. And the new coat of paint for the Halo 2 campaign is very sweet. The remastered cutscenes look amazing. The single player content and my love for the Halo series is the only reason I'm giving this tragic wreck of a game a middling score. It probably deserves a 1-3, especially if you bought it mainly for the multiplayer. But the sheer amount of great single player content pushes it up for me.    … Expand

    343, this is a godawful way to release your game, did you test it at all? was the port done by rabid STD riddled half rat-half monkeys?

    -Terminals which provided interesting story tidbits in Halo CE remastered now require me to install, update and boot another app to view. Why? every time I press a terminal I get a jarring, immersion breaking transition to an app I can't be bothered to use, the transition is cumbersome and poorly thought out.
    -Matchmaking is broken. broken is an understatement, if I were to personify the matchmaking service it would appear as a lobotomized Neanderthal suffering from the black death and colon cancer. It can take up to 20 minutes to find a match, and when matches are found they are always unbalanced with one team given more players(and more skilled players) while the other is stuck with newbs and less players.
    -The campaign save feature is broken, after completing the ENTIRE halo 2 campaign on heroic I have a total of 0 missions completed, and a sticker on my account saying I've never even tried it. then after playing 2 missions of halo 3 on legendary I have no record of that either. Was the save file system designed by someone repeatedly bashing they're skull in on a keyboard until they die of internal hemorrhaging?
    -Achievements don't pop, and sometimes don't even unlock. Admittedly this may be the Xbox one live teams fault, so I won't come up with a witty comparison to shame the hapless developers.
    -In halo 2 the enemy and friendly AI fails a shameless amount, with NPC's suddenly freezing on the spot lowering their weapons and staring blank eyed into what I can only assume is their own internal hell from which there is no escape.
    -Graphical update is good but disappointing.

    The Halo 2 campaign was great. The cut scenes were magnificent, and very well done, particularly the Gravemind cut scene. Unfortunately the rest of the gameplay wasn't what you would expect for a remastered game on the Xbox One, but the cut scenes made up for it.

    Halo 3 campaign was just a slap in the face. They did absolutely nothing to it. Halo 3 came out 7 years ago. Why on earth did Microsoft think they'd be able to get away without retouching this game? I found myself feeling so disinterested, especially after playing the touched up Halo 2.

    Halo 4, this is where 343 took over the franchise. I had never played Halo 4 before, but when I played this game, I could hardly believe this was originally an Xbox 360 game. Sure, there were some frame-rate issues, but that didn't take away from the game. Loads of new vehicles and weapons had me feeling excited the whole way through.

    Multiplayer never worked, and still doesn't work. It'll take ages to matchmake, just to put you in terrible games (like 2v2, or 5v3). 90% of the time it will just kick you anyway, and I have great internet, so it's not on my end.

    This game was infected with glitches. Hard crashes would cause you to restart the game. You'd see weapons spinning in circles on a wall (minor). Save files would get wiped out and you'd need to restart certain missions. This just to name a few.

    My conclusion is, don't buy this game if you're strapped for cash. There are better games on the market, and there are even better games coming to market. This is a console exclusive, designed to compete with PS4 console exclusives like Uncharted 4, The Last Of Us, and Order Of 1886. I can definitely tell you that Titanfall, Forza, and Halo do not compete well with PS4. Microsoft didn't step up, they didn't do their job, and I wish I bought a PS4.    … Expand

MCC it's just unfinished, every thing is not working appropriately (Achievements, Matchmaking, Save Points, Subtitles for Brazilian Portuguese). Lastly good luck on trying to get a game with a friend going. The in-game roster does not work at all since it does not show your friends or invite them so be prepared to reboot the game very often.

    Microsoft and 343i should be slaughtered for releasing this game with the amount of issues and treating the loyal Halo fanbase like dirt by not saying a word and yet they have the audacity to release Halo 5 end of this year? Don't pre-order and don't buy Halo 5 on day of release 343/MS doesn't deserve our money after treating us like this.

    Finally, Don't trust any user that gives this mess of a game a high score. Chances are they are either a 343i fanboys that likes getting shafted or an employee of MS/343i.    … Expand

    I really hope Halo 5 has 343's A team, because MCC clearly has their B team. I gave up trying to play after awhile because over about 3 hours we'd get to play for maybe 30-45 minutes.    … Expand

None of the patches they've released has made any difference whatsoever for me nor any of my friends. The last one made it noticeably worse. The game launched two weeks ago and there has been little-to-no improvements. Only a continuing spew of excuses from 343 and no timetable on when (or if) things will be fixed.

    I highly advise not wasting your money on half a game. An incomplete one if that. Farcry 4, Assasin's Creed Unity and GTA V (XBO) are all out now so you have the luxury of not wasting $60 on this pathetic excuse for a product.    … Expand

A true icon and legend of the gaming world and the dynasty has been destroyed.

The biggest problem with this release is that it is missing Halo 4 game mechanics from the multi-player. I feel as though I was lied to in the marketing for this product. The matchmaking speed is in very bad shape right now (slow). I'm hoping the 5 beta makes up for it eventually,I got this Halo (and all previous) for the multi-player modes. Essentially, you can match anyone searching in a ranked match, even if they are nowhere near your level. Why even have a ranking system? Again super frustrating.

    Even if you try and go into a ranked game with a team of four (which is almost impossible as the game will barely let you get 4 people in a lobby and search without multiple errors occurring), the game will split you and your team up, or you'll never be able to find a game. If you go in with less than four, chances are your teammates will quit to level up and you'll be stuck in a 2v5.

    The list goes on and on with this game. It's atrocious and a poor excuse for something that had so much hype. 343 should be ashamed with the product they put out.

    I love Halo, I really do but 343 really messed up on the Master Chief Collection! I love the campaigns, but no working multiplayer servers with no working patches. And faker than Dolly Parton's chest apologies from 343 have soured my taste for this abomination!

    Bought this game primarily for the multiplayer. Matchmaking is a disaster, at BEST it takes 5 minutes to join a game, up to 30 minutes, averaging about 10-15. Plus the UI is buggy as hell. This game clearly wasn't ready for release and it feels like MS is just milking the fans at this point.

    This game has nice graphics and good gameplay but the reason I buy an FPS is to play multiplayer and Halo is renowned for great multiplayer.It took me 6 weeks after launch to get an online game and it still doesn't work properly.Thanks 343,I won't be buying any Halo product developed by you,EVER.This is coming from a HUGE Halo fan.

    Devs, its not Xbox360, the save proccess takes less than a second, why didnt you improve it so it will save the whole progress every chekpoint? hell, not every, lets say every 15 minutes.

    Luckily for me I went to a friends house who has an xbone and "tried" to play matchmaking.
    Lets just say upon launch we were barely getting a match per hour and the sad part is it was small teams of 2v2 and other nonsense. Then there were maps where it couldn't render textures and was all white with lines everywhere.

    This game is full of bugs and glitches and LAG!!!!. I mean honestly if you are a halo fan then you have already beaten the 4 games already and want to see what matchmaking has to offer, which is nothing at the moment.

    There's also a glitch where you can boot a member from the opposing team.... wow!!!

    Once again I have lost interest in buying an xbone.

    I know there are a lot of people saying "don't worry they are fixing it".
    However like Ron White said "you can't fix stupid", and this my friends is 343 and microsoft being stupid.

    I am sick of games these days coming out that are broken and or unfinished products and we have to be stuck waiting for several patches to download while the rest of the game is sold as DLC.

    You would think after all the hate that Microsoft received after their xbone reveal that they would be nothing but a perfectionist upon releasing their games.

    I would only expect this much incompetence from EA games.

    Also didn't they say something about 300,000 servers for xbox one or some large number of the sort?
    They all must've taken the day off or are very lazy or maybe their not paid enough like all jobs these days so they do a half asked job.

    Multiplayer does not work whatsoever, so avoid if you're looking for that til they fix it. It was also quite annoying to see Halo 3 dead last in the installation priority, even though all 4 other games were dling at the same time.

    Online multiplayer still doesn't work over a week later and now the patch that will "fix" the problem has been delayed. That should be in there top priority list of things that need to work when the game launch's. Even then it should have been fixed within 24 hours, but now I have a feeling that it's going to take a long time until multiplayer works like it should.

    All they had to do is port pre-existing games that they didn't even make! Almost zero work was required on their part and they still managed to mess that up. This isn't an issue of bad launch servers, this is the result of laziness. Unfortunately the bugs are so baked in that it will likely never function as it should.

I think this is an engine limitation more than anything but it really stands out when you're playing game with obviously low hardware demands on a modern console and you get frame dips.

    Campaigns aren't that well made. Overall this game hasn't aged well. Hit detection is wonky. Level design is dull. Maybe part of me is just worn out because I played a lot of Halo 1 and Halo 2 when they were new, and this is really just a reskin and repackaging of those bundled with 3 and 4, but nothing feels fun here. It's all "Ah yeah, I remember when games played like this, we've come so far... wait they re-released it like this?"

    Multiplayer is really weak compared to a lot of online experiences I've had since Halo as well. It revolutionized the console shooter but its heyday is long over. Not worth anyone's time.    … Expand

    These games belong to the years they been released. Despite higher resolution, still the same shooter and general look&feel. If you have nostalgia then you might like those. Otherwise, not a 2020 game by any mean, period.

    MP doesn't work. If MP doesn't work, then Halo isn't working. I give it a 2 because 20% of the game is single player, 80% of the game is multiplayer. And we all know the single player campaigns are good.

    absolutely awful. the game's multiplayer lags and I can't find a match. Also, this game is outdated, and not in a "final fantasy 7 outdated good". It's just no longer fun. Maybe I've matured too much. Very bad.
