Good open world fun adventure. I would like to see a sequel in the same world, They built a cool mythology here. Bigger budget and a little more weight to your choices would help. I feel like only a couple choices at the end REALLY mattered

Yes, the controls aren‘t the best. The graphics are not state of the art, but good! The running is a little bit to much, but ...

I like the diverse cast and queer love interests, for sure, but even though the game broached tough issues like colonialism, it just didn't do it with enough flare.

First things first, this game is made on a budget. It's no AAA game. The player needs to get that in their head straight away. It is telling at times and sometimes takes the shine off the game but doesn't ruin it completely.

I think if you are a big RPG fan that loves story, consequence from actions and different ways of levelling your character and using the attributes unlocked to complete quests in different ways, then this will be right up your alley. If graphics and combat is what you're interested in, i'd skip this game. This isn't AC Oddyssey.

    PROS:

Really good voice acting and story telling. The charactors are well developed and likeable.

Quests are meaningful and actually interesting unlike a lot of RPG games these days which are full of filler quests.

Hub worlds instead of open (falls into cons as well) this I feel gave the company more time to focus on important quests rather than being big for the sake of it and filled with boring chore quests.

The levelling system is cool and is split into 3 categories. One to boost up weapon types, one to increase physical attributes like vigor and agility. And the last is more to do with Science and Crafting abilities and Charisma.

Unique world which I haven't really seen before. It's a cool mix between the Pagan ages in England and the 1700's at the same time.

Different factions in the game (Bridge Alliance, Natives to name two) which you have a reputation with based on your actions a la Fallout NV.

    Cons:

Disclaimer: most of these are graphical and I cannot stress this enough, I know that it's due to budget constraints and couldn't be helped.

When a character talks it is never even remotely in sync to the mouth movements (i'm talking ps2 stuff)

The main big governor buildings in each city are IDENTICAL inside. Whilst I know not every building can be different for a small team of Devs (i.e barracks) I'd hoped they could make 3 buildings unique.

Combat isn't the best tbh. It's bareable but not up there with other games.

There is hardly any variation to enemies whilst wondering around Teer Fradee. Mostly those weird sloth bear things which are boring as hell. Would've liked a bit of variation on enemy design.

The magic is a bit underwhelming. There's not much fun to be had where i', currently at in the game. I can't see any variation in the skill tree that I haven't unlocked.

The lack of open world and hub like areas could be a problem for some in this day and age.

To conclude, I really like this game and can take it for what it is, a rough gem. I'd love to see Spiders be given a nice budget form Bethesda or someone to be a 3rd party dev on a new RPG IP. I think they have so much love and care for the genre and is seen in this game and honestly think they could make something incredible with the right backing.

Yet, I've enjoyed every one of them for their imaginative worlds, adherence to that classic style of RPG studios like BioWare have moved away from, and the clear passion with which they were made. With each successive release having been an improvement on the last it was only a matter of time until everything came together for Spiders and they delivered their first truly outstanding adventure. Thanks to GreedFall that day has finally arrived.

The plot sees you travelling to the mysterious land of Teer Fradee in search of a cure for the plague that's sweeping across your home country. Along the way you'll have to manage your relationships with the various factions inhabiting the island and make decisions that will shape the fate of multiple continents at once. The setting is a one of a kind fantasy reimagining of the colonial era backed by rich, highly detailed lore. This is the best writing the developer has had so far. The dialog flows more naturally than in any of their other games, the companions are more fleshed out than ever before, and most of the side quests are so deep and significant feeling that it's hard to believe they aren't directly tied to the main thread. Things do get a little murky near the end where the need to establish a big villain for a final confrontation leads to a bizarre character turn that's clumsily executed. It's a disappointing conclusion, but not so much that I didn't still enjoy the tale or the role I got to play in shaping it.

The world you'll be exploring is broken up into a handful of different areas. However, each zone is so large that at times it almost sells the feeling of being open-world. The decision to move away from the maze like corridors that comprised all of Spiders previous efforts was a good one, as traversing these wide, sprawling plains that are covered in secrets is a far more enjoyable experience. Which is good as there is a lot of backtracking and the fast travel system is somewhat restrictive. It's also worth noting that interior locations are easy to get lost in due to how they're often a mess of identical looking hallways.

The area where Spiders has struggled the most over the years has undoubtedly been combat. They've always done a phenomenal job at making their systems flexible and capable of being tailored to your will with robust skill trees that are filled with options. The problem has been that battles have either been clunky due to poor controls and camera issues or downright unbalanced. Sometimes both. That isn't the case with GreedFall though. Fighting is incredibly fluid and it manages to be challenging, yet fair. Strategic play is often required to survive so the game's combination of real time action with a tactical pause is incredibly satisfying and fun.

The only area where I feel GreedFall doesn't improve on its predecessors is the presentation. The voice acting and music are high quality across the board, but the graphics are dated. Expect stiff animations during dialog, poor lip syncing, and plastic looking character models. The environments and monsters look fine and are well-detailed, but there's no mistaking this for a triple-A title. Still, if the budget was going to show through anywhere I'm glad it was here as I've always been a proponent of gameplay over visuals.

Spiders has at long last reached their potential. There are still some things they need to work on, but it's evident that all the criticism they've received over the years was taken to heart as this is leaps and bounds above any of the prior works. The huge step forward they took here from just The Technomancer is amazing, and they are finally ready to fill the void that was left in the single-player gaming scene when the former greats of the RPG genre lost their way.

Greedfall suffers from budgetary limitations and strange design decisions; at its core, it really wants to be a good game, but the developers made it kind of a pain.

There is nothing unique about Greedfall. The combat is similar to Dragon's Dogma and the Witcher, but worse and unbalanced. You have two companions, but you can't control them at all. You have a light and heavy attack which affect health and armor differently; you can set traps, use blade oils and use magic. The lack of coordination among your party can be very frustrating - for instance, one skill immobilizes enemies and damages their armor, so the appropriate tactic is to immobilize the enemy at the beginning of the fight and wait however many seconds the effect lasts to drain their armor. Well, forget that, because your party will instantly attack no matter what, ruining that tactic. They cannot use items or help each other, or themselves - if they are poisoned or hurt it's up to you to stop fighting and save them, every time. You basically fight some humans, mostly animals, and every boss fight is a monster created from tress and sticks and the like which vary widely in their challenge. Never did they seem unfair, per se, but rarely did they feel satisfying to finish. Humans remain the easiest and stupidest enemies to fight, which even at endgame amount to about 3 or 4 hit annoyances. There isn't one single human boss or even one good human encounter. On the other hand, toward the end of the game you fight almost exclusively "possessed" animals with an enormous amount of armor which are extremely monotonous and an absolute dread to slug through, because they couldn't kill you if you wanted to them to, you just have to bash on them until you can move on.

Progression in your skills and attributes is abysmal. You get skill points every level but attribute or "talent" points only every 3 or 4; I was level 30 at endgame so I didn't get even half of the available attributes or talents. If you wanted to max one out, you'd have to totally skew your gameplay style to favor one method. For instance, certain quests can be bypassed entirely if you maxed a talent (for instance, "vigor" allows you to climb rock faces, jump gaps or balance on narrow passages which may allow you to skip a boss or walk right into a room you need), but you have no way of knowing which you'll need. And, as I mentioned, it's basically impossible to max more than two of the six throughout the game, so you never feel well-prepared. There are helpful skills, but they're hidden behind strings of useless ones that you basically have to waste points on just to reach the better ones. Real progress lies in buying (never finding) better armor or weapons and using the only truly useful talent, crafting, to make upgrades. Two of the talents, intuition and charisma, are almost completely useless and never felt tempted to put even one point toward them.

Questing is generally benign but is sometimes mind numbing. There is an ungodly amount of running throughout the eerily empty game world, where there will sometimes be absolutely no other people or background music. You'll run through stretches of outdoor maps with no creatures or sounds. In palaces and marketplaces, even, guards or maids will stand completely still and never move. No one speaks unless spoken to. Most quests boil down to someone needing help, you having to investigate an area, finding another person who will only help you if you do something ELSE for THEM and finally getting what you want, then backtracking to the questgiver. The final quest has one of those dreaded, wide-net moves where you have to go back to every single faction and ask for help, which is 100% just a time suck and has no effect on the final boss fight, which for the first and ONLY time all game, you fight completely alone.

Otherwise, the game is riddled with odd visual and audio glitches. Your companions will sometimes not follow you for reasons unknown. Failure to maintain good relations with a faction a companion comes from will result in them abandoning you without warning. The basic RPG elements are ok. There's lots of loot, crafting, selling and improving gear. But, ultimately, this is a hollow game with bad structure and ambiance.

So long as you can look past the rough there is much fun to be had. You play as a diplomat sent to gain alliances with various factions on an island and find a cure to a disease. The game is full of political intrigue and cloak and dagger skullduggery. I played the diplomat to the hilt by focusing on skills that increased my charisma and persuasion.

The build I settled on for combat was a mage/2H weapon user. My melee weapon was my prime damage dealer and the magic was used more for support. I did not use firearms but they are in the game. Magic, once built up allowed me to heal and buff my whole team while stunning enemies or shooting magic missiles. A tactic I developed made boss fights easy was to freeze the boss in place, then hit it with my melee weapon for an automatic critical hit, freeze, hit, freeze hit, etc. Sadly the enemy types are very limited so you fight the same mobs over and over. The magic as an offensive weapon was underwhelming but there is a magic specific build that could work so long as you carry a ton of magic potions, but even then there is no real range of options to chose from in terms of offensive magic. Melee fights are standard in that you dodge and hit.

The strong point of Greedfall is the well above average story. Simply put the story is amazing and is what made me tolerate the games shortcomings which are an overall lack of polish. The wilderness areas look really good. Towns look good but are sparsely populated yet the ambient audio makes it sound like you are in a city overrun with people. Interiors are reused so you run into the same thing over and over with slight variations. Overall the game looks quite good yet not great. I had no crashes and few bugs. The game took me 75+ hours to beat. The weapons and armor progression was underwhelming and I ended the game with a chest piece that I got about half way through the game. Weapon upgrades were also slow to come but more frequent than armor.

So long as you can overlook the lack of polish in Greedfall and get into the story, then you there is much fun to be had in the game. Because the story is so amazing and the gameplay is serviceable I give the Greedfall a score of 8.

I bought the game with the expective of a game like Sea Of Thieves but single player and more history, but, wasn't that what I saw, but in the begining I liked the game, was with a good history, a good prologue, but after that, I fell the felling of starting a new RPG game with a great world, but in gameplay, I saw something I did't like, you pass most part Of The time walking, The combatI bought the game with the expective of a game like Sea Of Thieves but single player and more history, but, wasn't that what I saw, but in the begining I liked the game, was with a good history, a good prologue, but after that, I fell the felling of starting a new RPG game with a great world, but in gameplay, I saw something I did't like, you pass most part Of The time walking, The combat get's repetive after a little time, the skills let you only upgrade the class you chose, you don't have a option to chance that Expand

You’ll definitely need to enjoy RPGs to get the most out of it (or anything at all out of it, really), but sometimes, simply being a solid genre game is all you can ask for out of a game.

I think GreedFall may be the sleeper hit of the year. It’s an RPG that captures the best parts of BioWare’s works while adding in their own gameplay elements and a unique setting. The side stories are given just as much importance as the main quests. The world is large despite not being one large open world experience. Combat is the perfect blend of real time action and turn based decision making. After playing Bound by Flame earlier this year I had little expectation for GreedFall. I am happy I was wrong to doubt Spiders, because it is one of my favorite games of the year.

Having spent nearly 30 hours in Greedfall, I’m glad to have experienced it. The narrative is deep, rich of lore, complex and has many twists and turns; it’s just a shame it feels a little too long by the end with some superficial padding of forced side quests. If you’re a fan of Dragon Age or Witcher 3 and have been craving a new RPG to sink some hours into with some depth, Greedfall should be at the top of your list. It’s a shame that it released in the busiest holiday window and will be overlooked by all the other AAA games out there, but those who manage find it amongst the crowd and give it a chance should be more than pleasantly surprised.
