I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. The world-building, graphics, and plot were great. The combat was amazing, especially the ability to use 12 short cuts, and that you can have a gun AND magic!! The quests are not the standard fetch quests and there are many options for your character to make choices that affect the game and outcome. The choices you made and dialogue you pick also affect how the different factions and companions view you.

The map system within cities left a little to be desired- it is really hard to get around and I got lost a lot. Some cut scenes had a tendency toward the uncanny valley and sometimes during quests it was hard to figure out what to do next.

There are romance options in this game and they were decent. Not a ton of cut scenes between De Saret and your lover of choice, but still a good start. Not a lot of cut scenes with you and your companions either. Also, the companions are not bad, some are very interesting, but no one that inspires loyalty like a Bioware character. However, I feel that with some tweaking this studio could provide that.

I finished the game in about 50 hours and still missed some items and will be replaying. This game feels like Dragon Wage Origins with better graphics. There's inventory management (you pick up a lot of junk) crafting, potion making and trap making. Be warned- you will get quests early on that if you havent leveled up right you will have to come back to later. This was annoying, but you can reset all your talents and attributes with a memory crystal if you need to. I am hopeful Spider will release some DLC's because this has easily made its rotation into the games I play. Highly recommend.

It successfully scratches that BioWare itch with an intriguing world, like-able characters, and rock solid gameplay. However, aside from its unique setting, nothing about GreedFall truly stands out. Its combat is good but not great, its role-playing is largely fine but ultimately stunted, and its writing is competent but sometimes boring. GreedFall is right on the cusp of being something special. RPG fans will find a lot to like, but don't go in expecting the genre's next masterpiece. I did have some good fun with Greedfall and some of it's pretty on the eyes scenery. The combat felt haphazard and with the few proper patches this could be an amazing game. It's unique at times very fun but something was just a-miss on a few of the smaller details. I look forward to a potential patch or maybe some DLC. After this isn't a bad game but a few small details could have made this a real shining star on the Xbox One. Expand

Great new world that has various elements from other rpgs to make it differently beautiful. Sure this game is not perfect or game of the year material but it’s very fun and very interesting. The endless new atmosphere gives you hope for spiders future prospects especially a Sequel. Well done spiders. Looking forwards to the next greedfall journey !

    Good job Spiders team.
The game takes Technomancer mechanics, improves them and drops them in fantasy setting. Gone are the 3 styles of combat now you can be a master of all. The story is somewhat shaped by player choice and relies on skill checks for dialogues.
Overall, a good rpg which is very enjoyable but suffers from production issues.

Yet, I've enjoyed every one of them for their imaginative worlds, adherence to that classic style of RPG studios like BioWare have moved away from, and the clear passion with which they were made. With each successive release having been an improvement on the last it was only a matter of time until everything came together for Spiders and they delivered their first truly outstanding adventure. Thanks to GreedFall that day has finally arrived.

The plot sees you travelling to the mysterious land of Teer Fradee in search of a cure for the plague that's sweeping across your home country. Along the way you'll have to manage your relationships with the various factions inhabiting the island and make decisions that will shape the fate of multiple continents at once. The setting is a one of a kind fantasy reimagining of the colonial era backed by rich, highly detailed lore. This is the best writing the developer has had so far. The dialog flows more naturally than in any of their other games, the companions are more fleshed out than ever before, and most of the side quests are so deep and significant feeling that it's hard to believe they aren't directly tied to the main thread. Things do get a little murky near the end where the need to establish a big villain for a final confrontation leads to a bizarre character turn that's clumsily executed. It's a disappointing conclusion, but not so much that I didn't still enjoy the tale or the role I got to play in shaping it.

The world you'll be exploring is broken up into a handful of different areas. However, each zone is so large that at times it almost sells the feeling of being open-world. The decision to move away from the maze like corridors that comprised all of Spiders previous efforts was a good one, as traversing these wide, sprawling plains that are covered in secrets is a far more enjoyable experience. Which is good as there is a lot of backtracking and the fast travel system is somewhat restrictive. It's also worth noting that interior locations are easy to get lost in due to how they're often a mess of identical looking hallways.

The area where Spiders has struggled the most over the years has undoubtedly been combat. They've always done a phenomenal job at making their systems flexible and capable of being tailored to your will with robust skill trees that are filled with options. The problem has been that battles have either been clunky due to poor controls and camera issues or downright unbalanced. Sometimes both. That isn't the case with GreedFall though. Fighting is incredibly fluid and it manages to be challenging, yet fair. Strategic play is often required to survive so the game's combination of real time action with a tactical pause is incredibly satisfying and fun.

The only area where I feel GreedFall doesn't improve on its predecessors is the presentation. The voice acting and music are high quality across the board, but the graphics are dated. Expect stiff animations during dialog, poor lip syncing, and plastic looking character models. The environments and monsters look fine and are well-detailed, but there's no mistaking this for a triple-A title. Still, if the budget was going to show through anywhere I'm glad it was here as I've always been a proponent of gameplay over visuals.

Spiders has at long last reached their potential. There are still some things they need to work on, but it's evident that all the criticism they've received over the years was taken to heart as this is leaps and bounds above any of the prior works. The huge step forward they took here from just The Technomancer is amazing, and they are finally ready to fill the void that was left in the single-player gaming scene when the former greats of the RPG genre lost their way.

The game is full of political intrigue and cloak and dagger skullduggery. I played the diplomat to the hilt by focusing on skills that increased my charisma and persuasion.

The build I settled on for combat was a mage/2H weapon user. My melee weapon was my prime damage dealer and the magic was used more for support. I did not use firearms but they are in the game. Magic, once built up allowed me to heal and buff my whole team while stunning enemies or shooting magic missiles. A tactic I developed made boss fights easy was to freeze the boss in place, then hit it with my melee weapon for an automatic critical hit, freeze, hit, freeze hit, etc. Sadly the enemy types are very limited so you fight the same mobs over and over. The magic as an offensive weapon was underwhelming but there is a magic specific build that could work so long as you carry a ton of magic potions, but even then there is no real range of options to chose from in terms of offensive magic. Melee fights are standard in that you dodge and hit.

The strong point of Greedfall is the well above average story. Simply put the story is amazing and is what made me tolerate the games shortcomings which are an overall lack of polish. The wilderness areas look really good. Towns look good but are sparsely populated yet the ambient audio makes it sound like you are in a city overrun with people. Interiors are reused so you run into the same thing over and over with slight variations. Overall the game looks quite good yet not great. I had no crashes and few bugs. The game took me 75+ hours to beat. The weapons and armor progression was underwhelming and I ended the game with a chest piece that I got about half way through the game. Weapon upgrades were also slow to come but more frequent than armor.

So long as you can overlook the lack of polish in Greedfall and get into the story, then you there is much fun to be had in the game. Because the story is so amazing and the gameplay is serviceable I give the Greedfall a score of 8.

Some may seem to drag on a bit, but it's not a bunch of repetitive side missions. For instance you can have a quest that starts out where you're helping them get a permit so they can peddle their goods, then once you do that you have to find out what happened to their supplier and that leads you into an arena to fight for their freedom. Many quests seem to have similar length and method to them. Graphically, the environment looks good, but the characters appearances are not up to snuff. They just look so out dated, and this would have looked great back in 2010 on the XBox 360. You also have bad synchronization with the visuals and the dialog, It's like a bad dub. Also, the subtitles are filled with typos galore, and you even sometimes see the characters voice the same typo that is all out of place. I also wish the loot system was better. Until some easy way to make gold in this game is found, you get paid way too little for jobs and selling items; and this is a problem because you rarely ever get loot to drop and are forced to have to buy gear at the merchants. I hope they buff the quest rewards because right now they are terrible. If this was a AAA, it'd be disappointing but still a worthy play. I haven't came across anything game breaking or outrageous. All in all, I'm having fun despite the flaws. 8/10 is a good score. Expand

Good storyline. Some janky animation, but with the dark crystal on Netflix these days nobody seems to mind the puppets with odd movements so go in expecting that. No oversimplified fetch quests. Huzzah. Few places with load times which helps immersion. Lots of RPG options.

Great game and more than a stopgap for DA4. Characters are interesting, combat is fun and customization has depth. My only real issue has been the lipsyncing, which really isn't that bad and the voice acting is pretty good. I highly recommend it to anyone who liked the original Dragon Age.

I really enjoyed this, the story flow very well, gives you flexibility with how you progress your character and makes decisions have consequences. Slight criticisms would be the villain’s development feels a little rushed and the lack of game plus. Does have a slightly nostalgic feel back to the days of good BioWare games and I hope it does really well so the genre can have a revival.I really enjoyed this, the story flow very well, gives you flexibility with how you progress your character and makes decisions have consequences. I think GreedFall may be the sleeper hit of the year. It’s an RPG that captures the best parts of BioWare’s works while adding in their own gameplay elements and a unique setting. The side stories are given just as much importance as the main quests. The world is large despite not being one large open world experience. Combat is the perfect blend of real time action and turn based decision making. After playing Bound by Flame earlier this year I had little expectation for GreedFall. I am happy I was wrong to doubt Spiders, because it is one of my favorite games of the year.

Having spent nearly 30 hours in Greedfall, I’m glad to have experienced it. The narrative is deep, rich of lore, complex and has many twists and turns; it’s just a shame it feels a little too long by the end with some superficial padding of forced side quests. If you’re a fan of Dragon Age or Witcher 3 and have been craving a new RPG to sink some hours into with some depth, Greedfall should be at the top of your list. It’s a shame that it released in the busiest holiday window and will be overlooked by all the other AAA games out there, but those who manage find it amongst the crowd and give it a chance should be more than pleasantly surprised.
