    After spending the past few days playing through the entirety of Gears 5's campaign, I have to say that this is easily one of the better entries in the series. It was nice to see some of the changes Coalition made to Gears, however, I do feel a bit mixed towards some of the changes (the open-ish areas, for example). Overall I can say that the story had me griped in from start to finish just to see exactly where things would play out, and by the end of the game I felt a lot more interested in the world Coalition seems to be trying to build on here versus how I felt whilst playing through the previous Gears entry (Gears of War 4, which I found to be decent but no where near as good as the entries produced by Epic Games). Gameplay wise, everything in the game is standard for the whole Gears formula, which is fine - if it isn't broke there is no need to change it. Every mechanic in the game feels incredibly satisfying for a series that hasn't really strayed all that much away from its roots.

    The only negative that I have towards Gears 5 is the open area portions of the campaign. As much as its cool that they did at least try to attempt to change the linear nature of Gears by introducing a larger map to explore, there wasn't really a whole lot to it. It just felt tacked on, like the side areas were completely pointless unless you wanted to find upgrades for Jack and random collectibles (which were completely optional anyway). All it really did was make me appreciate the linear parts of the game a lot more, I felt that was where the game shined very well. I just wasn't a fan of the open areas, they seemed to just drag out the game more with redundant collecting and time wasting that didn't really add anything towards the gameplay except for an excuse to have a random sled to ride around on (the skiff).

    There isn't a lot that I felt detracted from Gears 5, it's an amazing game and definitely one that I can recommend. It helps that it's on Game Pass right now, definitely a solid game worth playing if you have the availability!    … Expand

    Campaign is great (one of the best campaigns in shooters I ever played), PVP and Horde modes are just ok, escape mode is boring and underdeveloped. Graphics is top notch, on par with Naughty Dog games but in 60 fps. I really like shooting mechanic and variety of enemies. Gears 5 is definitely must buy game for single player campaign.

    Il miglior gears of war di sempre. Un single player rinnovato e godibile, livelli di difficoltà ben bilanciati, in folle da il meglio di sé. Il multiplayer con qualche aggiunta degna di nota, sicuramente ancora il top nei tps.

    = I didn't touch the multiplayer of the 5th game. The open world bit of the game makes up a large part of the game and this part of the game is just not as good, the game isn't really suited to been open world with it's stiff feeling controls and stiff camara. These parts of the game just have bad pacing. The snow area of the game isn't even very pretty to explore and exploration is a big part of what makes open worlds fun. The later open area in the desert is more intresting to look at and a big improvement. But riding the sled thing still feels a bit like a long loading screen between areas.    … Expand

    The semi-open-world/rpg elements added to the game felt a bit unnecessary and slow for me. The greatest moments in the game lies in the linear chaotic bloody masterpiece that Gears is well known for.
    Thankfully, the story is amazingly heartbreaking, the characters are still great and the action, despite its misteps, still    Gears 5 is a good Gears game, but not a GREAT one, in my opinion.

    It's one of the best Xbox one games ever, The Story is amazing with great impact in the overall gears saga, It looks fantastic on Xbox one X, and plays flawlessly in single player or even co-op.

    the only problem I had with the game was that if you played the early access (because of gamepass) you could notice some audio or checkpoint bugs... but those have been fixed already

    I have played all of these games thanks to xbox game pass which is a great deal. However, this one has been the most filler/unfair entry into the series. They have filler open world parts that do not fit the format of these past games. I am a fan of open world games, however, when i play gears of war I just want to kill some dang aliens.     I've been a fan of Gears of War ever since the first entry launched on Xbox 360. I've played every mainline entry and enjoyed them all. I've actually felt like the series has improved with every iteration, if you compare Gears 1 to Gears 5 you'll see a stark contrast in colour palette, weapon selection, gameplay mechanics, game modes and    The breath of fresh air this series needed...

    I've been a fan of Gears of War ever since the first entry launched on Xbox 360. I've played every mainline entry and enjoyed them all.

    I've actually felt like the series has improved with every iteration, if you compare Gears 1 to Gears 5 you'll see a stark contrast in colour palette, weapon selection, gameplay mechanics, game modes and general feel of the game...

    It's quite fun hearing people go "This is just a bro shooter" or "big muscle men shooting stuff" as ultimately that's only a small part of what the franchise actually is.

    The story across the franchise has had a lot of heart, and the new characters introduced in 4 are so good that having them as the stars in this entry has been brilliant.

    Where Gears of War 4 was very safe, arguably the "Force Awakens" of Gears, Gears 5 evolves the formula into something new...

    Open world sections take over 2 of the acts, with optional objectives and side areas to explore

    Jack, a character you can play as in co-op, becomes a companion you can order about with some light RPG mechanics in terms of upgrading and unlocking new tools

    The new weapons add some fun variety, with "relic" weapons (hidden guns in the open world) becoming a new and fun mechanic which will put a spin on weapons you've already grown to love

    Stealth sections, something you'd never expect from Gears, whilst not as in depth as Deus Ex, they add a nice change of pace that allow you to progress through a section of the game in an unconventional way - or still run in guns blazing if you choose.

    You can play the entire campaign as a linear adventure like the prior games, but the new open world sections (which I'd compare to something like Tomb Raider) really give the game something new and the set pieces are superb.

    And that's just the campaign... the multiplayer is what you'd expect from the franchise, with the addition of Escape which is a neat play on a Left 4 Dead format, with a map creator.

    Highly recommend this game and would encourage everything to play through this franchise as a whole - this is easily my GOTY for 2019 (so far)...    … Expand

    Gears 5 could very well end up being among the best in the series over time, but only if Coalition manages to patch its many problematic technical issues that is currently destroying an otherwise excellent package. As of right now, I just can't recommend it at full price. It's fun when everything works, but this may be the buggiest launch of any triple-A video game this year.

    Nice game, Kate is good as main character. Redesign of JD also looks badass. Game has interesting plot. New features as exploring big locations is good step forward. Upgrading of Jack is also good feature of the game.

    Great game, but nothing groundbreaking, and it's nowhere close to e.g. God of War, despite the obvious inspiration.

    The graphics are truly amazing on the XB 1X (4K 60 FPS and HDR).

    Considering it's available on game pass, I think this is easily a must play for anyone liking action games.

    This game can easily be described as an experience. The game looks and plays incredibly (4k 60fps & HDR) the sound is amazing (Dolby Atmos option included) & it plays smooth. Plus, its on game pass! I recommend it, its really good. Best thing is if you have doubts just use gamepass and play it!

    Coalition took some interesting steps for this sequel, but sadly, they fall short of previous iterations. The newer characters, despite now having two games to be developed across, are far less interesting than the originals (Del and JD are both such a bore). This impacts the narrative also, which despite some interesting story threads, does not hit home in the same way because of these characters. The game is just not as gritty or as dark as previous games. Furthermore, the new weapons added this time around are far less satisfying or useful than previous additions. The open world design in the game's two biggest Acts, like the case with Metro Exodus earlier this year, ruins the tempo and has little genuine benefit to reward the exploration. Jack's ability's, although neat, are far from necessary to progress.

    The variety in multiplayer modes, a strength throughout the series, is maintained here. Each offering something different. Having only 7 maps in Versus is a real disappointment however, and these multiplayer maps are missing the dynamic features seen previously, resulting in Versus specifically, feeling like a step backwards. Lastly, there are very few customisation options at launch.

    Overall, its a good game despite my criticisms, and nice addition to the series. Its just moved away slightly from what i believe made the series so great.    … Expand

    Rating it based on the campaign only. Top notch graphic. Level design is fantastic. There is room to explore. Most important, it kept the original Gears DNA. It's a must play for any Gears fan and a strong play for any fans of shooters.

    Gears 5 is a beautifully made game that has great gameplay and easy to use controls. It may not be as good as the original, but it is definitely one of the best Gears of War games!! The graphics are absolutely mind-blowing and out of this world!

They attempted some open areas in the game- which I really didn’t care for too much. I especially hated the “skiff” in the snow & desert. Every time I came back to get on it- it wouldn’t work! I had to reload my save & try again. Very annoying. SomeEveryone seems to love Gears 5, and I liked it pretty well overall. There is plenty of action like all Gears games. Lots of shooting aliens.     It's a decent game, but I can't help but to give it a middling review because of the botched launch. So many errors, bugs, and headaches. I've lost progress on levels multiple times because of glitches, making me not even want to play it any more. Bought the special version just to realize that the extra days of play was more of a server test, a la Anthem.     Gears 5 ofrece una mejora sustancia respecto a su anterior entrega. Con una historia un poco más cuidada, mejor desarrollo de personajes y escenarios.

    Jugablemente sigue siendo muy similar al 4, y eso me chirría un poco, se hecha de menos ese sonido pesado de las armas y la brutalidad y escala de la trilogía original. En cuanto a los personajes no termino de involucrarme con ellos ni    Gears 5 ofrece una mejora sustancia respecto a su anterior entrega.     Pleasant surprise for a franchise that was facing increasing apathy, visuals are great, gameplay is solid, AI is not 100% dumb, acts clip along nicely although act 4 is a little short, The cast of characters is great and imo they are much better acted/written this time round, overall A very good game and a great entry in the franchise.

GOW4 has already taken a big step forward and moved away from the classic mechanics of playing GOW towards game-travel. But part 5 didn 't just inherit it, but developed it. This is clearly my favorite part of the series, which hasGears 5 is one of the best games of 2019, the best game from Microsoft in 2019 and one of the best in the entire generation of Xbox One (however grey it is). GOW4 has already taken a big step forward and moved away from the classic mechanics of playing GOW towards game-travel. But part 5 didn 't just inherit it, but developed it. This is clearly my favorite part of the series, which has even been able to surpass the 2 part. 2 open level great new experience for the Gears gameplay, yes a bit empty on the map, but it clearly went to the plus. And the plot is very dynamic and there are a couple of twists. Thank you Microsoft for playing such a game, looks great on Xbox One X.

    Gears 5 by The Coalition leaves the all-too-linear script to be a thing of the past, in pursuit of a rediscovered self. All, on the altar of a plot as such, that mandatorily requires the use of elements that you usually come across in the open-world and role-playing genres.

    Open world campaign, jack as a playable character, lots of improvements in horde mode, Kat and Emile from Halo Reach. I love that all. It is such great game.

The game looks incredible (one of the best-looking looking games of 2019 along with Devil May Cry V), runs at near constant 60fps during the entire campaign (except for a few notable hiccup spots) is crammed pack with various multiplayer modes which it is still adding to the game, a greatly improved campaign over Gears of War 4, great new weapons (Breaker Mace is my favorite), new enemy varieties to spice up the campaign (such as the Rejects and Wardens), Terminator: Dark Fate and Halo: Reach character cameos, great old and new characters (shoutouts to JACK, Baird, JD, Fahz, Samson, Iris) and overall, great gameplay. Only have a few minor cripes, such as Rev-9/Grace character pack being too expensive, bugs (most of them fix themselves or are generally harmless, but at least 1-2 are annoying, they'll fix it though, devs seem quick to address issues), the Lancer aim is bit off from Gears of War 4, shotgun seems a bit off from Gears of War 4, and not a big fan of the choice you have to make in the end of campaign story's (prefer a linear narrative).… Expand

    I am not much of a FPS player - I find them repetitive. But Gears 5 was on Gamepass so I played through the campaign and really enjoyed it. I think it took me about 15 hours.

The developers said that this is a map 50 times bigger than any other Gears game, but taking into account the fact that most of the really big map is pretty much empty with just a few secondary missions and lots of "skating/skiffing" time, it really does not give you the feeling of a 50 times bigger game, not even a bigger campaign, which has a duration slightly higher in comparison to previous releases.

    Now the bugs, I found a significant amount in the campaign (not as bad considering this is an early release, but still a release). In some extreme cases the experience was compromised, but nothing a quick game restart wouldn't solve, I hope those are getting fixed soon with a patch or something. In the online experience, mostly in multiplayer modes, most players are experiencing issues, those are already been taking care of but the overall experience is far from perfect yet.

    The game in general feels really fun to play, the feedback from guns is awesome, the tuning, the sound effects, the ambientation...It is a game of those which keep you sticked to the controller for hours, in both the campaign and the multiplayer, really enjoyable! Kudos to the amazing team which made this happen!

    That said and despite the issues (bugs), which should be fixed like in previous releases, I consider gears 5 is a significant improvement over Gears of War 4, with an awesome campaign, a really nice multiplayer and lots of additions making the overall experience much better. It is not perfect, but a must play for all the fans of the Gears saga.    … Expand

    Gears 5 is one of the best pure Action Games the last years. The Story and the characters are good too and The Sense of Fire is Really Good. And the Plot ist not Bad.
    Ultimately, I think anyone who has Xbox and likes shooters should play it. if you do not want to spend 60 €, you can also play it through xbox game pass as I did

Gameplay feels refined and tweaked in all of the right ways, and the game looks absolutely beautiful. Coalition took some risks this time and it pays off.     This game gives enjoyable time for player. Story mode is really joyful, and the game inscribe curious future for further developments event though short game time. However, I cannot say that, multiplayer mode has lots of different modes, so the creators have to focus on multiplayer in order to expand playable facilities for fans of GoW.

And in the most unique and non-lazy way of setting a story in motion she’s been having dreams that are telling her to go do a thing in a place so the plot can happen. But don’t worry she’ll be accompanied by Mr. Bland and uninteresting (no relation), to talk about herself at.

    Somewhat annoyingly you start the game as JD Fenix. Marcus Fenix’s bland and uninteresting offspring from Gears 4. Only in the intro act he’s given some genuinely interesting development. Clearly living in his father shadow he’s desperately trying to prove himself. Even when unnecessary. This comes to a head when JD puts his own life at risk in order to save the lives of others. Only this ultimately backfires, Now physically and emotionally scarred from the decisions he made that day he has to learn to live with the consequences. The actions he took that day saved lives, but also inadvertently ended them. How is he going to move forward, how will he grow as a person. How will he reconcile with loved ones after that pain he has caused. Can he see the positive he has done, or will the darkness slowly eat away at him until he is nothin…

    Ah, all that can wait, Kait’s got a Mcguffin and a dream and in her own words “This isn’t about you, It’s about me”. Who needs an emotional hook for story telling when you can have spooky visions. Forget you and your emotional trauma, your inner conflict, your moral ambiguity that you struggle to reconcile with on a daily basis. That’s not interesting, I’m bloody sad god damn it, it’s all about me, not you.

    It’s strange. In an attempt to tell a more personal story they’ve done away with all the fun, over the top character moments that made the original trilogy such a joy to play. And yet nothing here comes anywhere near as emotionally impactful as Dom finding his wife in Gears 2. The only reason I can think of is that fact that it’s so incredibly hard care one iota about these new characters.

    But I suppose ultimately what I’m trying to say is… Pew pew fun.    … Expand

It's not even comparable to any other game that came out this generation. The last game I remember doing it was GTA V, but that came out last generation. it has an immersive story acted by extraordinary characters, it has the classic Gears gameplay but with small variations plus a lot of plesant surprises that keep it fresh. The campaign alone would be a 11/10. But then you also have Versus, Horde, Escape and a map builder, which are all great modes. There's not even the need to describe how good they are, if you played any Gears before, you already know. The gore is up through the roof. I only encountered twice the infinite saving bug, but it's fixed now.… Expand

    Tem pessoas que não sabem, mas o Gears 5 tem uma especie de SEASON PASS que voce nao precisa pagar, é bom demais, é tipo um SEASON PASS do FORTNITE, so que voce nao paga, basta ter o jogo.

    y se nota que todos los que dieron 0 son hater sonyers ya que todos curiosamente se quejan de lo mismo hasta parecen grabadoras dicen exactamente lo mismo.

    This is the first Gears that I played. At first I was sceptical of the controller scheme but after an hour I was all ready used to it. I finished the campaign after 18 hours. Graphics 10, sound 10, character movement 8

    I want to start this review by saying I've never been the biggest 'Gears Of War' fan. I've played each installment (other than Judgement) and the only one that I REALLY had fun with was Gears 3. None of the gears stories really caught my attention and therefore I just never got invested. Needless to say, I was excited to give this game a shot. And everything they showed up to launch this past summer has only gotten me more excited. Firstly, This was an absolutely incredible game to play through. After the opening scene, the visuals were what hooked me immediately (running on my Xbox one X). This is hands down one of the best looking games I've ever seen on any console (right up there with Red dead 2, God of War, Metro Exodus, etc etc). The story was absolutely on another level compared to any other Gears I have played. I cared about the characters! Even JD, and he was absolutely static (in my opinion) in Gears 4. Completing campaign took me about 2 full days of non stop gaming (about 7-8 hours/day) at a pretty average pace while completing all of the side missions I could find (they give u like 7-8 side missions throughout the game). I'd say if you want ALL of the collectibles and side missions completed, this game could take upwards or 16 hours. For me personally I am 100% willing to put this in my top 3 games from this generation on any platform (1. Red dead 2, 2. God Of War, 3. Gears 5) based on the main criteria I look for in games which are story (9/10), Visuals (10/10), Gameplay (10/10). Gotta give Xbox Game studios credit where credit is due. Xbox has had a rough go of it this gen but this is definitely one hell of a swan song to end the Xbox One Generation.

    En general estuvo divertido, buenas mecánicas (sobre todo usando a Jack), tiene un par de mapas semiabiertos con varias misiones secundarias que te sirven para alargar el tiempo de juego.

    es el gears definitivo en todos los sentidos, hablando de jugabilidad, historia, desarrollo de personajes, multiplayer, el modo escape puede mejorar (aunque así es muy bueno), y el modo horda con amigos es magnifico, totalmente satisfecho y muy recomendable.

A campanha é simplesmente incrível, voltando a assuntos do passado como New Hope e rever o Niles são momentos épicos para fans da franquia, o ritimo do jogo e moldado na sua forma de jogar explorando os cenários semi abertos que são realmente bem ambientados, inclusive nesse assunto, eu ouse a dizer que esse é o gears com os cenários mais elaborados da franquia, graficamente o jogo é impecável, e o áudio é INCRIVEL!! o som ambiente desse jogo, o barulho das armaduras, o barulho do gelo se quebrando são coisas lindas, muito capricho por parte da The coalition, simplesmente o melhor engenharia de audio da geração, a trilha sonora voltou a ser envolvente como as das trilogia original, as boss fights são muito boas eles deram muitas variaçaoes de como enfrentar utilizando recursos do cenário, as missões secundarias são muito boas não teve uma que eu não tenha gostado, eu presenciei alguns bugs mas nenhum de atrapalhar a experiencia, bom essa campanha e melhor junto com a do gears 2 mas ainda tenho que digerir algumas coisas para decidir qual é melhor
    O muntiplayer do jogo veio muito superior ao 4 em questão de conteúdo, infelizmente no momento o servers estão meio ruins mas e normal pra um game lançamento, e é bom ver que The Coalition escutou os fan, finalmente arrumando a gnasher que no gears 4 esta extremamente quebrada, acabou com bonecos esponjas em que você da 5 tiros e nao morria, esse muntplayer do gears 5 tem o potencia de ser o melhor da franquia com essas alteraçaoes.
    o modo horda esta sensacional, sem duvidas o melhor, com essa mudançasque cada personagem tem sua habiladade sua ultimate, coisa que tamben tinha no gears 4 so que bem inferior, da uma sensação nova de se jogar se parecendo com um 'heroes shoters' e isso e muito dinâmico.
    o modo fuga infelizmente não pude jogar muito mas com o pouco em que eu joguei ele estava bom.
    na minha opnião foi sem duvidas um dos melhores games desse ano se não o melhor    … Expand

    Same old gears formula with slightly better graphics, there's no innovation in the game and it is being milked to death due to lack of another new ips by microsoft
    The controls are decent,but the online multiplayer is laggy and unreliable, alot of glitches and overall not worth the 60 dollar price tag

    This is disappointing. For all thos loving the open world aspect, well that simply is not Gears of War. Microtransactions, cards? With people of you gave this game anything above a five cancel your Gold account. Add in the sound problems the progression that sucks your life away, you got something, just not a Gears Of War game.

    Gears 5 is an odd thing; it's neither a grand leap forwards, nor a complete rehash of what came before, and therefore sits somewhere in the middle of the two. On the whole, the improvements do outweigh the negatives (the non-linear approach to campaign levels and the small changes to horde mode being some of the most notable), and while The Coalition still has some work to do to really make the series its own, this is a far bolder and more varied approach the relatively safe Gears 4. If you love shooters and you want a good place to jump back into the series, this is perfect place to work the rust out of your lancer.

    Gears 5 offers a solid portion of brutal action with several refreshing new things. If you have intentionally avoided games from this series, the fifth sequel probably won´t change your mind, but if you are looking for a quality action game and you are still a fan of multiplayer, try it.     Gears 5 proposes a breathtaking solo campaign and a generous array of multiplayer modes. Even if the recipe remains classic, we really want to go through with it. The characters are rather well written, the environments are often spectacular, and Jack the robot adds some salt to the gameplay. A visual feast and glorious action game that perfectly demonstrate Xbox One X's true power.
