The gunplay and shooting mechanics surprised me a great deal because I didn’t expect them to pack as much of a punch as they did and I didn’t expect them to be as fluid as they were. There isn’t a huge amount of depth available when it comes to the game’s story what is available has actually been done pretty well. There are a few problems when it comes to the presentation side of things but on the whole I enjoyed what both the visuals and sound design delivered to me. The world in which the game takes place is big it just doesn’t hook you and that’s mainly because it lacks excitement and livery. Technically the game suffers with an array of issues which hold the game back. Each quest I went on in the game lacked excitement and there wasn’t much fun to be had along the way. There is a lack of variety present in the enemies you face in the game as well. In terms of replay ability the game doesn’t have much at the moment because everything is repetitive. I’ll admit to you now that I had some reservations when I first learned that Fallout 76 was going to be online only and by the looks of different forums I wasn’t the only one who had reservations with this. I love the Fallout style though so I was ready to look past this and play Fallout 76 with my mind completely open, and that’s exactly what I did. Unfortunately though after a brief amount of time it became clear that this game is filled with problems and in a way it just doesn’t have the formula the previous game’s had. I always enjoyed traversing in the previous Fallout game’s, but traversing around in this game just lacked it's the fun of its predecesors. The quests are further hindered by the various technical issues in the game and when it’s all said and done there’s just too many issues which in turn hold the game back. At the end of the day as it stands at the moment I can’t recommend a higher score for Fallout 76 to you because it just has too much wrong with it. This is a shame because it does get some things right like the solid gunplay but the good things it does get right are quickly forgotten and in the end all that you’re left with is a shell of what the Fallout series has always been. Hopefully updates in the future will make theme more enjoyable and what it was intended to be from the initial concept. Expand

Bethesda has taken a great series of games and ruined it with this latest release of FallOut. I have played them all since the release of the first FallOut, always trying to finish the game to 100%. Now they add this horrible version known as FallOut 76. It is indeed, the worst in the series I have played. This has ruined the FallOut saga for me.

Fallout 76 feels like a work in progress. An EARLY work in progress. Still, if I’m judging the game entirely on whether or not it’s entertaining me, it’s actually a lot better than most are giving it credit for. Oddities and bugs aside, it’s fun if you get over your sequel expectations.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I challenge those leaving 0 and 1s to show us videos of their gameplay because im gonna call them out on their BS. These are fake reviews. I spent 20 hours playing the game and found a number of bugs and issues yes, but none as game breaking as these whining little brats want to let on. Let me break down bugs i saw. (Unable to find world): simple reset fixed it. Mission objectives not showing up. Reset fixed. Massive lag in certain areas (simple reset again). Seeing a common feature here? Same thing all other MMOs suffer from with half the whining. You dont like the game we get it, stop leaving fake reviews and go play your barbie games. This game is not for everyone. Personally i hate having to watch over my shoulder when looting junk because some random guy can kill you for it. Easy fix though...avoid people like you would in reality and drop the gear in your stash every chance you get. Easy fix.
    Pros:
    Graphics are really good.
Gameplay is fun but can get monotonous over time
Combat is from FO4 which some are familiar with
    Leveling up system
    Cons:
    Bugs
    Leveling up system
Players can kill you for any reason

I can go on for more cons and pros but this was mostly to show yhe game is not as bad as the whiney naysayers are claiming it to be. $60 for it is not bad.

At first I was a little disappointed in that but there are two very good reasons for that, First: You are supposed to play with your friends! it was created to play together and my Wife and I are having a blast playing together and enjoy running into other players and figuring out if they are hostile or friendly and making new friends, It's great! Second: everyone died in the apocalypse! you are the first people to come out of the vault and need to rebuild, and they are true to that concept but there are still deep and emotional stories everywhere for you to find and experience, I find the stories of the people that lived and tried to survive after the bombs fell a very engaging story line for you AND your friends to find and talk about. in other multiplayer games when there is a NPC, what happens? a bunch of people are crowded around them and it breaks the emersion, I think this was a better way to do it and there are still robots that act as NPC's when necessary. please give this game a try, it is not really a single player experience (I wouldn't mind it) but if you wanted to play fallout 4 with your friends this is a great way for you to do it with and I think we are going to spend a lot of time really enjoying this game.

Loot is level locked. PVP is invite initiated. There are no human NPC's. Every mission is mind numbingly repetitive. The "story" is told through hundreds of holotapes cause, again, no human NPC's. It looks absolutely terrible for a 2018 game and runs like hot garbage. Shall I go on? I was very, very excited about a new Fallout title, it's one of my all-time favorite game worlds. The graphics are amazing, the world is beautifully detailed...but there's a problem. There aren't any people. The quests are all driven by either Robots or Audio tapes. The cities and towns aren't lived in because there aren't any human NPCs to be seen. It's dull, lifeless and boring. Human players are sparse on the ground as well. They're scattered all about the massive world and encounters are few and far between.

I was okay with multiplayer because the expectation I had was that it'd be Fallout 4 with Human NPC mission givers and other non-human NPCs wandering out. I figured the choice system for dialog would be there as well for interaction and an awesome branching storyline you and your friends could help shape. Nope. There's none of that.

Now, I'm not going to just complain. I've got an idea on how this can be fixed, if it's something Bethesda decides to fix.

    1. Populate the safe areas with NPCs
    2. Write the story that's seriously lacking with branching choices and meaningful decisions.
    3. Since it's multiplayer, and generally fallout follows a 3 or 4 choice dialogue selection, with one being good, one being bad and the other neutral...with some specials thrown in depending on charisma and the like...make it a "vote" when in a group. So, a tally of the selected dialogue options displays to the player, so if 3 of the 4 selected choice 'b' and the last guy picked 'c', well 'b' is what the group gets. In the case of ties, the neutral choice is the winner by default.
    4. To group likeminded players together, use the karma system that's been in place for forever. This system would help to get likeminded players together for the purposes of decision making. So, if a player has a habit of selecting the 'bad' choice on their own, or in a group, the game will keep track of that and display an icon of some sort to let other players know that's someone they want to play with for a likeminded experience.

Something along those lines would keep the multiplayer aspect, provide longtime fans of the game a bit more of what they were expecting, and help form and solidify player interactions and the community. Honestly though, unless a major overhaul of the present system happens, I will more than likely not be playing the game anymore. It's boring and lifeless and a real drag to play.

I'm supposed to believe every single human survivor suddenly died in the last few months to 3 years? There's TONS of evidence of people that were here recently but NOT ONE of them is alive? Okay....

Second, this game is buggy even by Bethesda standards. It lags and glitches extremely often on every system. The Xbox one X is the worst though. Many people complain they have no audio, though I don't have this issue. The issue I and a ton of One X users have is an issue with "overheating". I put that in parenthesis because the system isn't actually overheating. It's a bug that shouldn't even be possible but Bethesda's legendarily bad programming has found a way. It happens most often when fast traveling or leveling up but can really happen at any time. I rarely play more than 20 minutes without the system shutting off and I've never played over an hour at a time.

This game was not even remotely ready for release, and Bethesda should be ashamed that they pushed it out anyway. Absolutely disgraceful.

Technology-wise, it is Bethesda at its *finest*. Bugs-galore. Performance is right out. I have an Xbox One X and when I say the game chugs along at 15-ish fps in public events I'm being generous. Couple that with the game not reacting under those conditions and you got a recipe for disaster. Forget firing your gun at mobs, or even moving, if it's not the terrain bogging you down it's the melee attacks of the mobs, which under 10-15fps you simply cannot outrun or move away from. Forget about getting a stimpack going and surviving, that's right out.

If this game ran at 60fps or had better graphics on my Xbox One X I could see it as a technology demo but right now it is far from a demo of anything but mediocrity.

This is not "Fallout with multiplayer", this is a multiplayer walking simulator with guns, in a Fallout world, nothing more.

Give this one a pass. They can patch out all the bugs, even improve the performance, but I highly doubt they can ever make this game fun.

Overall, between the lack of NPC's and coherent story telling, I am feeling very let down by Bethesda. Expand

The aimlessness of this game will be evident to you within seconds of taking control of your character, you’re given near nothing in direction or motivation, exit the vault and take a dirt road instead of the paved road and you miss the cornerstone quest that introduces you to the world mechanics.

You get quests however they’re all kill robot this, kill robot that or cook a steak...

Other players simply exist, you don’t interact as much as you simply see each other, the base building is something I latched onto in an attempt to justify my hard earned dollars alas, this too hits a wall as you easily achieve everything you need from a base within a hour or so.

The gameplay experience with other players is for the majority of the time good, everyone tends to help each other, but obviously the style of the game means people will be constantly at you too, 2 or more against one is hopeless and you can just watch any effort you've put in be destroyed. You only have a "camp" and a very small area and budget to build something, this is the only thing that remains when you log off the server. All other captured bases and structures are gone instantly.

There is no real story, the game feels dead inside with the lack of life and only robots you can "interact" with but no more than pushing a button for a random quote from them. This game is horribly disappointing. The only way this game could be redeemed some what would be if I could have the Fallout world to myself and my friends, not every random moron or give me the option of having players attack me or not (excluding captured base areas). Was it really that difficult to make a game that would have suited a wider audience? Not a minority.

They could have gone for an emergent player-driven story like Sea of Thieves but this doesn't fit the setting, mood or game mechanics of fallout. Audio logs get mixed into random voice noise in the chat, the mechanics to encourage player interaction are half-baked at best, and the grind is tragically boring and detrimental to the player interaction, as players can have heavily different power levels. It's as if game designers were totally absent from the process, and the game is a mash up of the board of directors' vague ideas about what a modern cash grab should be.

Based on how all the previous Fallouts have sold, they didn't need to go in a different direction, Fallout sells. They should have made a traditional Fallout game that used the same engine as 4, and made it a spinoff like Fallout New Vegas. But instead they turn their back on their fan base, and appeal to a smaller crowd who doesn't play Fallout, just so they can milk microtransactions. Absolutely pathetic there’s micro transactions when we have a quarter of a Fallout game here. Now to ignore the knife Bethesda put in my back and review it as a game on its own it’s probably a 5 or 6. Typical buggy launch that can be expected of these games (Really was Skyrim any better on release?). Shooting feels clunky as always and Vats has been altered to work in real time but it looks and plays stupid. Missions and story are very stale without NPCs to bring them to life. Graphics really show their age against other games this year like RDR2. Creation engine is as outdated as Gamesbryo was for New Vegas (They still made it work better than this however). As an MMO it has very limited pvp options and safe guards anyone from losing anything of value. As a survival game it’s hit and miss, they put the need to eat and drink however items are rarely ever scarce and there’s no real repercussion when you die. Big map that can have immersive Fallout times when your exploring the landscape alone or with a friend. Random people ruin immersion and fun with their wacky pink hair and colorful power armour cussing profanity over the mic. With Fallout 76, it seems that Bethesda has stripped away the aspects of the game that made it worthwhile, and lazily left in everything that made it so frustrating and broken. Even most of the bugs and broken mechanics that were in Fallout 4 initially are still here, along with a slew of new issues. The game just feels like garbage to play, and it looks like a total mess. I'm glad I played this game on a friend's machine instead of purchasing it myself, and I feel bad for all of the people who foolishly pre-purchased it at full price (with even more milking to come through microtransactions and future DLC).

i am about a full day in playing this game. 22h on record now. i played by myself for 8 hours. then actually went out to look for a gang to team up with. no one would join me. it seams very very hard out of the maybe 30 people i have run across, that would like to be friends.

My first 8 hours of playing this game... it was dead it seamed. it was as if i was playing Fallout 4 after the main mission. I was able to get a power armor frame. and a massive plethora of pipe pistols. that i can only seam to sell for 1-2 bottle caps or deconstruct into one or 2 screws. depending on item condition. and after about 8 of those hours, compiling materials and a few quests. i still couldnt build a full on house (4 walls and a roof). So after i gave up on the building aspect of the game. i then got board of doing the same kind of quests over and over again. ether fetch, baby sit, kill something, or read an entire essay worth of hidden quest paths. I have been around the block a few times with these holotape and such story systems. Fallout 1 and especially Fallout 2 had them already. It wasnt new.

My next few hours. from hour 8 to about 12 i found one of my friends in game. And we didnt go on some massive adventure our the like. i was helping him get his quests done and the like he was helping with some of mine. We still couldnt really build much. And he got tired of just doing the same kind of quests as well.
From about hour 12 to 13 we just talked and tried to figure out the leveling system, some crafting, and where to go and do next. so from hour 13 to about 16 we went to the edge of the maps. We tried to find the largest landmarks. and we ended up getting frustrated as we kept running out of ammo, and getting chased down by a gang of 4 other players wanting to PvP.
My friend left on hour 16 and i went back to where i like to set up my shop. trying to work with the crafting system in some way. seeing what i could or couldnt do.
Then followed by me Alt-Tabing out of the game to see how to start looking for nuclear launch codes... to no real prevail.

My Review of this game is a 2/10. its boring. its empty. theres nothing at those cool looking locations. the story didnt hook me or my friend. the quests are generic MMO quests. its still buggy. and as i have seen from previous BGS games, they will remain buggy to the end of their life.
The Engine is too old for this stuff they expect it to do.
The players ruined my experience. but it was alright when i was playing with just my friend. the no push-to-talk system is cancerous.
There is no amusement to about 80% of these locations.
There is no random special encounters with lets say as happens in Fallout 3 or new vegas.
Its arsenal is lack luster. it will be an E.A. like system where i have to play some 100+h before i get to end game equipment. that i might not even have the level to use. I already got power armor frame and a minigun though. Ammo is harder to come across.
The survival aspect of this game is a joke. you dont get hungry or thirst too often at all. Softcore survival just means that you are to not have too harsh of a penalty on death... not have it become a massive chore when you actually need to drink or eat.
The game is alright for exploring and some time with friends. But thats all that is here. wide as an Ocean, deep as a puddle. ill give it points for the looks and the environment. but everything else? No.

Out of this entire experience, i came out feeling ripped off. I payed $65 pre-order... i get home to open my PHYSICAL CD case. to find that where the CD is, its a cardboard disk... THERE IS NO PHYSICAL COPY OF FALLOUT 76. and it was STILL a FULL PRICED game. Not only that but the pre-order from Gamesstop; Their special pre-order item? was a Fallout Sticker to put in your car window.

I have no idea what Bethesda is doing. idk if this is Todd's idea. but if this is a joke. it went right over all of our heads.

As of today. I know this wasnt your first Online game, Bethesda. i am no longer your fan. Goodbye Bethesda.

Secondly, a lot of the negative reviews are flawed, with some being complete lies. Many people who disliked the game (not all, but a majority), disliked it because it wasn't like other fallout games. That is complete nonsense. When you play a game, base it off of itself, especially when it's new. Also, a lot of the bugs that people have been experiencing, I personally haven't experienced.

Finally, what I think is most important, is you should ignore the reviews. Buy it if you think it looks good, don't buy it if you don't. Most reviews are entirely based on opinion, and you don't need to share your their opinion.

So, overall, great game, lots of fun stuff to do, even if it has a few unfinished aspects.

P.S. Anyone whining about the holotapes needs to get over themselves. In my opinion, NPC's are so much more annoying.

I would understand if Fallout was similar to Call of Duty in the sense that you can just scrap a campaign because nobody cares, but Fallout was a single-player franchise for years and they EXCELLED at creating lore and a one-of-a-kind survival experience.

So for Bethesda to suddenly just release a ~new~ game, which is basically just an inversion of Fallout 4, scrap NPC storylines, scrap stagnant settlements, delay mods, and just throw everyone into an open world with each other, camping and fighting is bogus for what this game has consistently offered in the past, a personal experience. I don't know why they'd emphasize on the PvP aspect when the map is humongous with barely anyone in each server. Did the devs grasp nothing from the turnout of Elder Scrolls Online?

You don’t have to think beyond surface-level to get involved with Fallout 76, you can’t develop multiple theories inspiring multiple play-throughs. This game is like a post-apocalyptic dust bowl of GTA Online, but at least they even had a campaign lol. For Fallout this honestly doesn’t make any sense. It’s an empty sandbox. Can we at least get our own Dogmeats? Moreover, my heart aches without Curie to walk around with.

Mind you, it took a lot for me to initially dislike game—I am STILL trying to get into it as we speak—I spent months anticipating this new chapter, but now just want it to close. I want the $80 wasted back into my pocket. I still respect Bethesda for prior releases, but this game is an utter disappointment and more or less highway robbery.

I'd cut some slack if this wasn't a series that has worked wonders with creating a survival realm. How do you spend years designing beautiful games, developing a worthwhile franchise to release a flop? No dialogue to choose from!!! Come on. Not even random raider d-bags shouting at you.

What would a DLC even look like at this point? Far Harbor was one of my absolute favorite expansions, but without NPCs, no dialogue, no definitive campaign, no companions, no settlements, nothing that has enveloped Fallout in the past, I don't plan on spending money any further. I am baffled that I feel this way about a Fallout game.

It's just hard to understand that this game is made by Bethesda who also made Elder Scrolls Online.

It feels like a constant grind for everything; loot, caps, experience, building materials, guns, etc. Not only is this massive playable area completely void and empty, so seems every area of anything interesting to loot.

I ran into a bug that had me stuck in an entering power armour animation that left me with no HUD and unable to move which left me defenceless against the 10 enemies that spawned right in front of my face. Usually, I would accept that it’s just a random bug but this animation has been around for 3 years, I can’t find a good excuse for it to be showing up now - especially in a title that supposed to surpass the previous titles.

The story is also luckluster, not having NPCs has harmed to game tremendously. It defeats the point of it being a Fallout title. How could they get this so wrong?

I’m so disappointed because I truly love Fallout, I want to love this game but I can’t find a reason to. I feel, left in it’s current state, this does nothing but harm a franchise that is so loved.

Here’s waiting for a year of updates to finally get a experience that feels like a $60 AAA title, a true Fallout experience 100GB update.

I love the world they have crafted. I like playing this with friends, which inherently makes the game fun for my personal expenses and possibly others.

I enjoy the 'survival' mechanics of the game and progression it provides to aiding your playstyle.

The innovations, where you have to scout out plans to craft your fortress, tho with some downsides but a good idea. The regions, another innovation giving all players places to go and fight to progress and not feel cheated at times, which again still issues. The settlement menu feels more fluid and easier to navigate, making it a joy to build, but that's all and now onto negatives. Now I'm level 37 and haven't discovered everything yet so the score could change but as it stands right now:

I hate stuttering. Never in my life have me and my mate felt so frustrated with a game where we enter a high-level area and the game decides to spawn not one, not 2 or even 5, but 15-20 enemies in the same locations. This threw us off and we were annoyed because it wasn't a quest to defend a workshop but the game-deciding to spawn in too many enemies that tho may seem to be a challenge, it stutters the screen. Even worse, they haven't addressed the automatic stuttering from the beta. Every time you fire an automatic, the game just starts to stutter and you end up missing a couple of bullets that could've killed them. I'm here trying to run a revolver and submachine gun build but can't cause the game decides to stutter. If this doesn't get address ASAP, this game isn't going to be as supported I'm afraid. My friend spoke on this in one of our sessions: What is a game with a beautiful open world to explore if it constantly lags on an ageing engine?

Limitations in the settlement are a pain in the ass. I get some of the premises behind it, being not being able to 'float structures' (to an extent) or building certain things. But you need plans for a rug, yes, a rug. Not the fancy bear ones but a simple rug. The budget is far too small or the budget cost for certain items like turrets and building is too much, either way, it prevents me from building a cool base for my mates and other players to hang out in the cause of the budget. Stash is also another issue. How the hell can i store items I may need later that are very valuable like most heavy guns and power armour bits if my stash had a limit? You simply can't.

Various bugs encountered, no surprise there. This one annoying bug has been really bullying my mate I play with and it's such a broken mess it drives him mad. The enemies that can melee him can do damage to him, even when it's not in range of him but still do the damage and he can't fight back, so he is basically fighting ghosts he can't kill. There are times where there would be naked versions for people characters that T pose, there are crashes which don't let you keep the workshops you claimed, the power armour skeleton glitch is back and many more I've not encountered but I'm sure you all have.

Having no NPCs for me is a big misstep in the wrong direction and makes the world empty, tho I can still play the game without them but it doesn't feel the same. All the charisma and flavour those NPCs had from previous games just made em so memorable and all were are here for is to listen to. I also don't like the linear quests, which is brought from fallout 4s story. Now I haven't done every single quest but from what I've done, it's all pretty linear. Do this, read that, kill it, listen, collect, defend all in its quest lines and now deviates from this formula that should've stayed in Fallout 4. But wait, its a "Fallout 4 multiplayer mod" as most tend to agree, where it has no NPCs and hasn't improved as much? maybe to an extent that your choice to decide.

Overall, Fallout 76 is an average experience for the player. If you like to play with friends, you will have a lot of fun with them. If you play individually, all the tools are there for you, but at the cost of losses, which you may not like. Though the game does provide good quality of life improvement and a rich world to explore, it is still plagued by issues of the creation engine with all the bugs and glitches that weren't touched and resolved. All I can personally say to Bethesda is this, "roll out weekly updates, patch issue consistently and keep making content, or else your game is going to suffer like it's starting.

Anyway, as someone who has played Fallout since the second one on PC I will say that after logging in last night with a friend and playing around 4 hours F76 is a lot of fun. My favorite aspects of Fallout 4 were base building and getting in to crazy combat encounters. Now those things can happen in some pretty well implemented multiplayer. I found the new story telling method a little weird at first but I started to enjoy it once I got the hang of the gameplay loop. Performance was acceptable and the game looks pretty amazing. I do want to get it for Xbox one X eventually for some 4K goodness but it played perfectly fine on Xbox one.

Haters are gunna hate but this is a solid good time.

A lot of people have been bashing this game hard as a "soulless cash grab" and "not fallout" like they were tricked, but it was pretty transparent the direction they were going since announcement, I think it gets a lot of hate because it's not the single-player story driven narrative Fallout fans have gotten used to, not going in with those expectations I thoroughly enjoyed this game as a hardcore Fallout fan. Like all Bethesda games, this one has problems at launch. The main one being stash size limit of 400. Loved the game for the first 2 days, until I hit this wall. The next day was spent in menus reducing my stash and scrapping items I wanted to keep. I'm a hoarder, but not to an extreme. I only want one of each item, that's it. When a game comes with presale skins and offers more of them in the ATOM shop, plus factor in Skyrim, Fallout 4, ESO, you would think they would allow us to actually display some of these items. Keeping higher level weapons you find, like mini-guns has become impossible really. I stopped looting bodies, even checking them unless they are legendary. Extra Power Armor chassis that were meant for displays, I scrapped. And Bethesda saying the limit it gets easier as you level, it only does if you ignore and stop looting bodies and rooms. Otherwise we have zero room. Both collecting and building are ruined at the moment due to size limits and all that leaves is a go here and do this quest feel. There are some great stories, scattered around the wasteland. There is also a lot of dead space and even cool environments lacking content. All the more reason to allow players to actually build decent size structures and display their findings. Literally, a higher stash size and build limit fixes at least 50% of the issues with the game. I can play through the lag, quest bugs, poor quest tracker, etc because i know these are things that will get fixed and improved with time. Future improvements that I'd love to see, vendor bots built at player settlements to sell their items, but once again that requires the stash and build limit increases. Also, companions. Give us a dog or a bot, nothing more. Do that on consoles and most of us are happy. We can worry about lighting and shading later. Expand

I'm not one that's given much to levying a whole slew of complaints about any given topic without offering suggestions. To me, that's just whining. In essence, this game is far from perfect. It has a whole host of issues ranging from issues pertaining to graphics, to storyline, and everything in between.
First I will focus on the positive aspects of the game. If you're into multiplayer games, this game is all right. You almost have to have a crew in this game in order for it to be truly interesting. In a way, it really does appeal to me because it requires socialization and communication amongst teammates.
Secondly, I come to the negative side. In my opinion, gear needs to be scaled to your level. What good is a level 20 rocket launcher but I'm only a level 10? It just doesn't make sense to me that I would obtain this rocket launcher ten levels before I can use it. Additionally, there seem to be many bugs in this game. The biggest one in my opinion is the fact that I get kicked out of the server on occasion. This can be a real bummer esspecially in a multiplayer game. Also, I've seen creatures such as the behemoth just sitting in the middle of the lake, not moving. I don't know whether to target him or avoid him?
Now for suggestions. Bethesda already has a rather successful MMORPG on the market. If they are hell-bent on making fallout an RPG style game, they shouldn't do a sloppy job at it. One of the things I like about Elder scrolls online is that you can complete the quest in whatever order you choose, in both you and the creatures deal damage in proportion to your level. You can run across a level 30 creature when you're level 10, ever. The same should be true for fallout. Additionally, the map should be much bigger. I'd even say quadruple the size of it. They should also have more players on the server as well. Think World of Warcraft; which brings me to my next point, they should really consider clan system. Another common complaint I've heard in the some extent I agree with that is that it will remain true to the Lord surrounding the fallout story. Every good game is a story, it has a pretext and then the storyline. This naturally leads me to the fact that there is no overarching story here. A good game has a really good story behind it, an ultimate quest which should take the player quite a while to achieve, daily quests, and numerous side quests and ultimately this question be given by real humanoid NPC's. Some don't see the utility in having humanoid NPC's, but there is a psychological factor at play here because the game feels really lonely without them. Especially when you only have a few dozen people on the server. I think many of these issues can be addressed by issuing a few patches and a really awesome, but heavily discounted DLC which would serve as an apology to the customers that were disappointed an incentive for new customers to buy the game.

I have been playing mostly solo. You people realize a 0 out of 10 game is a game that does not compile. This is silly. Basing a game purely on graphics is also silly. This game is worth the pick-up. Free DLC is yet to come and its already jam packed full of content. THere may be no NPC's other than robots, but the stories on the holo tapes are full of emotion. I forget the time when I play this game and I haven't felt that in a long time. This is all just me playing without a team. I then played with a team, and things got awesome. Have you ever watched funny montages of games on youtube where they play together? Everything you do feels like this. There are way too many experiences to be had with this game for a 1 out of 10. Or lord, a 2.4 user score. This game has me hooked. Expand

I loved the Fallout franchise because of the interesting storylines, engaging characters, and character perk options. This game falls completely short of the mark with its forced mmo play style. It is clear to me that this was a cash grab for Bethesda and I will not be making the mistake of preordering games from them in the future. If you like mindless shooters with absolutely no story and **** graphics, then this game is for you. I personally play games for the escapism aspect and this game is completely lacking there. There seems to be no real point to this game, "quests" disappear when you die, and you have to pay caps to respawn in less than convenient locations. No, I am not a bot, or someone paid to write a bad review...I am in fact an unhappy customer who wasted way too much money on this garbage game. Maybe Bethesda should actually take customer satisfaction into account instead of pointing the finger at the bad reviews and saying "fake news". Expand

Just sucks. Plain and simple. Honestly don't know how the team at Bethesda tested this game and thought that it would appeal to the masses of Fallout fans. To have pre-ordered and paid for an upgraded version, it just feels bad. Buying a new game can often be a gamble but something from the Fallout series genuinely felt like a safe bet.

Sitting in the theater at E3 so many months ago and listening to the excitement around multiplayer I'm absolutely shocked that they missed so bad. From the crap frame rates, to the lack of NPCs to drive the narrative, to the non-compelling content...I'm never getting that time (or money) back.

I played this for a few hours yesterday, and this game is a solid 5.

Pros: - The game is built on the Fallout 4 graphics engine, so the world and characters look fairly good (if a little dated). - The crafting system has been expanded to allow you to break down not just junk for raw materials, but also weapons and armor (beyond the old "4 steel for your 10mm pistol" - The C.A.M.P.

    - The C.A.M.P. system lets you build up your base almost anywhere outside mapped areas, and when you want to move, you can pack it back up and take it with you.
    - The ability to team up on the fly, with selectable voice chat options, means you can work together when you want to. I ended up teaming up with a rando right out of the vault, and it made exploring way more fun.
    - The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system has been reworked. You start with 1 in every category, and improve them as you level up. You also get perk cards that have their own value. You can then stack perk card on an attribute up to that attribute's level. So if my Perception is 3, I can stack 3 level 1 perception perk cards on it.

    Cons:
    - The biggest issue for me is that there are no NPCs other than random robots (either with a quest or selling stuff). Most quests are found by reading notes or listening to holotapes, which (pun intended) just feels hollow. This also means if there isn't anyone else around, you feel very truly lonely.
    - There are level caps on items, and in order to craft better gear you need to find blueprints which seem few and far between.
    - There are bugs and glitches (world clipping, spawning loop issues, etc), but hopefully they will be fixed in the near future.

The performance is laughable for a multi-billion dollar company who has funds to spare. The graphics are years behind, and they continue to insist on the use of their now ancient engine. The game is riddled with bugs and Bethesda should no longer get a free pass for this. It reaches a point where it ceases to be funny, and starts to become grating.

If you're a fan of games with depth, substance, good writing and characterizations, then do yourself a favor and steer way clear of this, it's not the Fallout you love. but instead an abomination made by devs and publishers who don't give a **** about anything more than bogging their pockets down with as much of your money as they can at the expense of everything else

Weapons are still creative and I like the Idea that you have to trade with other people for high level gear. It doesn't feel like a video game at all. It feels like a few game mechanics stretched over a large, uninteresting world. There isn't enough motivation to care, seeing as there are literally no characters to care about. If they want you to make your own adventure, then there simply isn't enough fun or interesting things to do or discover. Shooting monsters and surviving have no meaning if I have no stakes to keep me invested. I'm sorry, and I hate sounding like my opinion is the only right one, but if you're defending this game, it's simply because you can't take criticism or contention. This game is simply bad.

Side note: After that supposed to be inspiring narration in the beginning about how only the best and brightest lived in Vault 76, immediately in the character creator screen, there was some little kid over general chat I could hear. "What the fuuuuuh?" Oh yes, best and brightest indeed.

Fallout 76 is a lifeless, shell of a world that had most of it's assets ripped from Fallout 4. It goes out of it's way to take everything that Fallout was and throw it in the trash for the sake of appealing to a fanbase that was never there.

Pros. The Music is good, as usual. Cons. No NPC's. No Story outside of notes, holotapes and exposition shouted at you by robots.

    No NPC's.

No Story outside of notes, holotapes and exposition shouted at you by robots.

Meaningless factions that lead only to busywork repeatable quests such as 'escort this robot' and 'defend this supply cache'.

Shoehorned factions put in simply for brand recognition, despite them making no lore sense in the setting.

    PvP that doesn't exist.

PvE that's stupidly easy, and when it's not easy you're just fighting bullet sponges.

    The dialogue system removed entirely.

90% of the game is inhabited by these fake ghouls called 'scorched', no enemy variety at all.

Ridiculous micro-transactions that manage to be even worse than the creation club ($3 for a virtual door for your house, $5 for some stupid hat).

It's still on the creation engine. Which means all the bugs that existed in Fallout 4 and even as far back as MORROWIND still persist.

You can speedhack the game just by editing a .ini file.

There's no data encryption. Hope you're not trying to hide your IP address from some stalker.

DO NOT reward Bethesda for this travesty of a game.

But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
