For an online post apocalyptic game, this is a blast! Very easy, a bit too easy since all I do is sneak and slice enemies with a bloodied ski sword. More entertaining than Fallout 4 IMO!

So seriously Bethesda... what the f**k? Is this how you treat your fans, your loyal customers? With pathetic cash grabs riddled with bugs and with a side of microtransactions as well? And what about the "No. Only Cosmetic" promise for loot boxes that Pete Hines stated on Twitter and other empty promise Todd Howard made?

You have become a meme of the gaming industry and you seem like you have no friggin' clue about what you're doing... Such a shame, you are losing credibility by the day and you're not doing anything to amend the situation.
Regarding the game, it's simply a mess, don't bother with it, don't waste your time, there are still (fortunately) many better games out there, I would not recommend this game to anyone.

I can’t believe Bethesda can be this disrespectful and untrustworthy toward their dedicated consumers. If I could rate this lower than a zero I would. Even nearly one year after launch and the glitch pile just gets bigger and bigger and hardly any content has been added other than a poorly designed battle royale, some useless quest items, and display cases that can barely fit most things to put in them. Worse than Anthem by far. 0/10. Expand

The whole MMO idea was great, but by removing EVERY human NPC (unless it's a dead body) was a really really bad idea, as reflected in the quest line, which is absolutely terrible.

The level of initial bugs was embarrassing, and this reflected in the game play. It was incredibly hard to play at times, with bugs like invisible enemies, environments not rendering, and quest lines not triggering correctly to name a few.

The map is fantastic, like awesome. It's huge, you'll never run out of places to find, it's really nicely designed, and just a very interesting place to explore. With a huge variety of environments and terrains, it's a really nicely done aspect of the game. It's just a huge shame the rest of the game lets the experience down.

I personally found that leveling up takes an absolute age... especially with boring repetitive quests, that don't really feel like they have any depth or interest at all. (Such as, find these objects, bring them here, or escort this robot to this location sort of quest) Like i've sunk 3 days of solid gameplay into it now somehow, and i'm not even level 50 yet. The special / perk system is also absolutely terrible. Fallout 3 had it perfect, Fallout NV improved on it, Fallout 76 took everything good about it and emptied it into a bin. It's a clunky confusing mess that really hinders your characters progression.

Item condition is back, which means your guns are now essentially made of paper apparently, with them breaking constantly. On the flip side, quite cool how condition has been applied to cooked food items / organic foods, as they can go off and spoil if not eaten in time.

The soundtrack (as in the atmospheric exploring music) is also great. Visuals are great, from landscapes to guns.

Overall, this game could've been absolutely amazing. It's just a shame it was botched so badly, meaning we got a really unsatisfying entry to what is a fantastic franchise. Can be fun if played with a few friends, but it gets tiring pretty quickly.

I feel like although this had a bad launch, in a few months they’ve been able to turn this game around.

The story is interesting (and even more so with the return of NPC’s in future DLC), gameplay works like any other BGS game, other players are the friendliest I’ve met in an online game and the map is huge, 40 levels in I’ve barely seen anything. The game isn’t perfect by any means, but

I bought this game on release and stopped playing about 1-2 weeks after release. This was because of all the issues, bugs, and glitches and just not a fun game experience. Fast forward 8 months post E3, I had been following the game and it’s roadmap, but the biggest thing that got me to try the game again was the Wastelander DLC announcement. So I decided to try and give the game another chance and to be honest I’m glad that I did. It’s not perfect right now there needs to be some balances to the game but it sure seems to be running a lot more stable. I’m only halfway through the story but I have to say I’m really enjoying the game play and the changes from the DLC and patches. I defiantly look forward to the Wastelander DLC so I plan on finishing the story before that. Also Nuclear Winter is surprisingly very fun even though every game is throwing in a Battle Royal. It’s quick matches and fun to be in the fallout universe. Right now I would say the game is at a 7/10 with all the changes so I hope when the new DLC comes out it will make the game a 9/10 or 10/10, as well as bring in some of the choices and consequences that make Fallout one of my favorite RPG universes. Right now I feel as though the game is in a good place, the gunplay and shooting mechanics themselves are really good for a fallout game. The live action V.A.T.S system meshes well with the online aspect of the game. The world map is vast and has many areas to explore with multiple buildings being accessible.

The main quest storyline currently is probably the only thing that is meh about the game, I feel as though when the new DLC comes out this fall adding npc's and a new quest it will become considerably better.

Honestly my biggest complaint about the game are that the enemies in it are 99% bulletsponges. Even a dog has an absurd amount of health, requiring so many bullets to take down. Super Mutants are the worst with this regard. They hit like a truck, always attacking in groups. I've played every other fallout game except for the original two and I've never been beaten to death in x-01 power armor by a wooden board of all weapons. The pvp aspect or lack thereof is probably it's best aspect. Probably personal reasons but I really don't like pvp. It's why I don't play pvp oriented games such as pubg or fortnite. I would love to see a single player experience of the game which I hope is coming in the Wastelander dlc. The game has had it's up and downs but in this day and age what hasn't? All in all it's a great game but it's not flawless. Fix the enemies and their tankiness and I might raise it up to a 10. It doesn't deserve the hate that it's getting though. I really want to see it's improvement down the road. Expand

There are robots, holotapes etc which give you quests and some quests are started upon entering a building. The community is friendly and not full of griefers, mostly kind and generous. There is a player vending system but people will often drop free stuff in places around the map. There is a separate PVP mode if people wish.

Picked this up on the xbox one and I have to say I'm really enjoying the gameplay. The player base (touch wood) has become quite friendly to say it is s a post apocalyptic world, and the opening quests are a good way to set you up for life in appalachia. The VATs system is noticeably different to previous games, but fits well as a system into the multilayer setting. A scarcity of ammo early on will push newer players to conserve ammo and use the many melee weapons available to them, though early perk cards in the luck tree can definitely help source additional ammo without paying the extortionate (to newbies) prices at vendors.

The issues I have experienced so far mainly boil down to optimisation for the xbox one, I. E. Frame drops (by far not a regular thing, but noticeably present). The other main issue I've experienced are glitches while using the workshop, these have only been experienced at public workshops though and consist of turrets teleporting through the ceiling, and the build mode defaulting to an item on opening rather than letting you select, can cause a great many wasted materials this way but hopefully can be patched out.

In addition the lack of NPCs is rather jarring to players coming from the previous fallout games, but with upcoming FREE dlc adding them in the future is looking bright for fallout 76, and I hope those thag gave the game a negative review can come back and give it a second chance because it really does deserve one.

On the one hand, this game has gotten far more backlash and baseless criticism from braindead bandwagon hopping troglodytes then it ever could have actually deserved; especially given the effort that Bethesda has put into listening to what fans want and implementing it as quickly as possible. They manage to do this while fixing a large number of bugs on a regular basis and the result has been a turn around very akin to the post-launch of No Man's Sky. What exists now is a stable solid and fun core gameplay loop, but one in my eyes with some room for improvement. This paired with a fun and in some ways totally original battle royale game type that still offers rewards useable in the other two game types present makes for a rewarding experience and a game well worth the money... Now. This brings me to why I am of two minds. While great praise would be given for how far this game has come from what it started as it simply put shouldn't have shipped that way in the first place. It is not by any means a good practice for a company to charge full price for a broken buggy mess and expect their customers to wait patiently while they take a year to fix it. I am, however, understanding enough to acknowledge that I am not privy to the industry goings-on behind closed doors and so it is not my place to make judgments about events that I am not fully aware as to the cause of. All of this aside, what exists now is a fun engaging experience that is worth the price tag, regardless of the road it took to get here. Expand

The community is great, and you'll run into kind people more than enemies, or griefers. Leveling your character and perfecting the build that you want is extremely satisfying, and is great for players who really like to role-play and connect with their characters. If you haven't picked it up yet, now is definitely a great time to start, it's easy to get into and hard to get out of. I give this game a 10 star review simply because the replay-ability, rich lore, and the ability to just pick it up and play with your friends. Let me say that the first problem is the location. West Virginia simply is not the best place for a fallout game. They really made a mistake by pretty much making all of the WV map available, now future above ground maps can't be added.

Most importantly the glitches and bugs. It could never be more clear that the devs were not capable of making the game. They fix one glitch only for a dozen more to show up. The game has been out for how long and still it's difficult to play because of these bugs?

Survival mode? Why? What is the point? Survival mode would mean something if once you entered a character in that mode and that was the only mode you could play. No, you can swap between normal and survival mode taking the teeth out of pvp. I remember back in the days of WoW you leveled on a pvp server and you lived under the constant threat of being ganked. Here, you go in, ???? log out and accomplish no meaningful pvp content.

If Devs really want to fix survival mode they need to make it stick to the character.

The Graphics are ok, some of the dynamic weather is beautiful especially the rain.

I truly enjoy the survival aspect especially the requirement for food water and weapon maintenance make it a more dynamic experience.

I'll end this review wit ha suggestion to improve Survival mode:

    1) Make it stick to a character, if you are in survival mode you stay in (Unless you use atoms to xfer, think of how much you could make)

    2) drop the top 3.

    3) Add twice as many players to the server

However, I wanted to shed some positive light because this game is actually pretty dang fun. the open world multiplayer concept is an incredibly fun and good idea for the Fallout world. Though I will admit having some human NPCs would be nice, being able to not only be a vendor yourself but going to other players camps and being able to buy and sell there is a great fix. While the quests are for the most part fun, some can feel repetitive. However, I thoroughly enjoy walking throughout the open world and attacking creatures of all sorts! the crafting is a nice touch and I love being able to move my C.A.M.P whenever and wherever I want too. I recently moved it from the mountains down to the river for a better view and to be closer to a water source. The hunger and thirst aspect of the game is refreshing because IT's not a choir to do. The shooting and fighting mechanics feel a lot like Fallout 4 and I'm loving it! And last but certainly not least is the Survival BETA. it's what fans like myself have been wanting for a LONG time! It is a more hardcore survival experience that makes you care about stealth, managing your resources and have an all-around better awareness of your surroundings. But it’s hard to feel as if you’re truly affecting the world when there are no NPCs to express satisfaction or disdain, or to be directly influenced by your actions. Even killing feels hollow. Some of my best battles in Fallout 4 came when I stumbled across an outpost and found there a raider in there; he’d yell and scream at me as we were facing off. The Scorched, while armed, feel like nothing more than zombies.

The addition of multiplayer feels as though it comes at the expense of Fallout’s memorable story-driven moments. What good is a vast map full of players if they're given little to no purpose? When no other players are around, the game’s world feels almost empty. The attention-grabbing locales and landmarks add to Appalachia's charm, but it's difficult to not wish for living, breathing characters to inhabit it. Post-apocalyptic West Virginia is described as a wasteland, and this term paints an inadvertent but accurate picture of what Fallout 76 is right now.

If you enjoy multiplayer games of this type and are willing to overlook the engine anomalies, you may find yourself rapidly addicted to the game's exploration density and loot systems. If you're easily frustrated by bugs and issues, you may want to sit tight a bit to see what Bethesda does to polish things up, cus oh boy, it could use a bit right now. If you're a fan of the single player, branching narrative the series is known for, you'll want to wait for Fallout 5.
