The story seems a little predictable and boring with the whole i need to find my lost son thing. However, it is an awesome story the missions are well done especially the side missions i have done involving the railroad, brotherhood of steel, and the institution. While you might find the main plot of the story cheesy the story is very well executed. I am happy to say this game is definitely worth 60 dollars. Just because some others have been unfairly AGAINST Fallout 4 doesn't mean I'm gonna be unfairly FOR it. These guys deserve better. Their praise will come HONEST.

Let me just get this out of the way. I've got a pretty nice collection of GOOD xbox one games now. Despite this, Fallout 4 has been the ONLY game I've played since I went and picked it up. I got it the day after it came out. I expected to see a few ugly-ish bugs that would soon be fixed as seems to be Bethesda's M.O. To my surprise the bugs were mostly minimal. I couldn't manage to remove custom markers from the map and my companions had an annoying way of being right where I needed to go and blocking my path. Big deal. I sent Dogmeat back to Sanctuary to wait for some sort of patch and the markers? Well, who cares? That marker bug is now gone anyhow.

I've loved the Fallout games since the original, I even liked Fallout Tactics which I did feel was a bit light on the story line and world immersion but I love the lore and world so much that that didn't matter. I love Fallout and I like tactical RPG's like FFT and Fire Emblem so yay! Anyways, to be clear, NO, Fallout is no longer what it was when Brian Fargo and Interplay dreamed it up. In some ways it's come a long way and in a few others it has regressed. I'd complain about that regression but A) Bethesda's Fallouts have been good even when they were bad(like New Vegas, I'll get to that in a minute) and B) If I miss the old school Fallout that much then I'll go to my computer and play it or I'll put in Wasteland 2: Director's Cut. Problem solved.

So, Fallout 4. I was looking forward to Fallout 4(to put it mildly)ever since I finished the last Fallout 3 DLC, I had hoped that New Vegas would tide me over but it really didn't because New Vegas may have felt and looked like Fallout but the perks and quest rewards were way too bland. Caps and XP, that was the reward for EVERY quest in New Vegas. Hardly any unique weapons to find and the whole mystique of the Mohave wasteland was just, barely realized. Barely. For another game New Vegas was cool but for another Fallout game New Vegas was only passable at best. Enter Fallout 4, finally that moment to moment wonder I missed so much from Fallout 3 is back! The feeling I get when I enter a new area where I'm thinking "ooh, what am I gonna find in here? What wackiness is going to be going on?" That's back. Fallout actually has a sense of mystery and intrigue to it again! And there is ACTUALLY something to discover, like in Fallout 3, not false hope after false hope like New Vegas ultimately gave me. I liked New Vegas, don't get me wrong but it was a step backwards from Fallout 3. Anyways, sorry, my biggest gripe with Fallout 4 ISN'T the graphics(no, the graphics aren't GREAT but they ARE passable, especially considering the content of the game), it's the consolidation of the level up system. I liked raising skills and picking a perk. The skills are still there and so are the perks but consolidating the two is crappy I feel. Being able to hack "expert" level terminals and THAT'S IT being the single reward for a level up is a bit lame. "Oh, need to be able to pick locks but also need to be able to do more damage with a weapon type? Gee I'm sorry, pick one." No. Absolutomente no.

    Pros:
-Exploration is fun, mysterious and rewarding again
-Combat is fun as ever, much tighter FPS system this time around
-much more lively mutant beasts this time.
-HUGE world(whoever said you could travel this world in 10 minutes DID NOT play Fallout 4, that's B.S.)
-Legendary enemies with legendary loot appears at random
-modding system is diverse and awesome
-being able to manually exit V.A.T.S. is awesome!

    Cons:
-having no skills list is disappointing
-Not QUITE as "next gen" as I had imagined, but it's still top notch
-Companions can block your path, big problem during firefights
-Crafting is complicated and not fully explained.... I don't play Fallout to build a dream house anyway.

Conclusion: Fallout 4 is awesome. If anything I think this is a good example of why over-hyping a GOOD game can be a bad thing for the game. The amount of hype that Fallout 4 got had me just about expecting it to be able to spawn a real life Mr. Handy that'd wash my dishes and make me macaroni and cheese and a milkshake. Even I feel a strange sense of disappointment that that's not the case, and I knew it wouldn't be. If you've liked the Fallout games then get this and watch yourself not regret it. However, if you want a hardcore tactical RPG type of experience rather than a post nuclear apocalyptic open world that's actually INTERESTING to steal your life away until this spring then I'd suggest Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition or Wasteland 2: Director's Cut because this game isn't as RPG-ish as the old school Fallouts are.

Taken at face value, it's still one of the best games of the year, but when compared to New Vegas we can feel the ever on-ward march of the dumbing down in the industry. Resident Evil was a survival horror, and slowly over time it turned into an Action Adventure and has been nailed with crappy reviews and general dislike ever since. Fallout has been making the same march. It's not good and a little sad.

The settlement builder feature is an awesome addition, but like a lot of new features it needs some work as it doesn't function all that well. Parts are clunky and don't work as well as they should. The story feels dated. Fallout 3 you were a Son searching for his father, here you are a father searching for his son. Woo hoo. Major creative liberties taken there Bethesda. Awesome job. I guess next time we'll be a Spouse searching for a spouse, or a sibling searching for a sibling. New Vegas was far superior in story, and honestly I had a lot more fun playing that one than this one. Let's hope Obsidian develops a follow up to New Vegas.

Looking at the negative reviews, the most talked about issues are the bugs, the graphics, and some game mechanics, particularly the leveling system and story. Here's my personal response to each of those:

-Bugs: this I will agree with, in that, by this point, Bethesda should've updated their game engine, as all their games have had them. On that note, ALL Bethesda games have had bugs, as have pretty much ALL games at launch. They aren't game crashing (Arkham Knight for PC or Assassin's Creed: Unity, anyone?), so ultimately, they don't matter.

-Graphics: really? The graphics are "sub-par"? Compared to a Call of Duty or Star Wars: Battlefront, I totally agree...until I remember that the size of this game is SO much larger than any of the other games. For the size of this game, they are awesome. If they were the level of Battlefront, the download size would be MUCH higher, and that's what you would be complaining about instead.

-Leveling system: The new perk system, I agree, takes some getting used to. The whole frustration with being able to add in points to your stats, though...given how Bethesda was going for making a life in the game, it makes sense. Don't you, as time goes on and with work, get stronger, faster, smarter, more aware, etc? Why not have that same freedom with your game character? Makes sense to me...
-Story/NPCs: I will save this one, as admittedly I have not delved as much yet into the main story. I've been busy doing the countless other things you can do in the game.

Now that that's done, here's what I feel Bethesda did right, in addition to the above:

-Freedom: I love how I be literally anyone, and do literally anything in this game. The possibilities are endless. I've played the game for over 10 hours already, and just barely touched the main story, and that was only so I could get to a place with more shops. This is also the staple of Bethesda games. And to fully appreciate their games, you HAVE to approach it with that mind-set. Any other expectation about their games, and, yes, you will be disappointed. Yes, many other "open world" games have better graphics and deeper story. They ALSO don't have the shear number of other stuff. There are very few games where I have as much fun just exploring as I do in Bethesda games. They really are the "create your own story" game makers. That's what I've always loved about their games, and they delivered yet again.

After waiting 5 years since New Vegas came out, I thought that my very high expectations that I'd set were about to be destroyed based on the initial user reviews. Wrong. This game is incredible and is exactly what you'd expect from Bethesda. I would imagine that the people giving this game terrible reviews are either trolling, have never played a Fallout/Bethesda game before, didn't settle into the game, or just have poor taste in video games.

While there are some major differences from previous releases, as far as the spoken dialogue and the much overhauled shooter mechanics, these elements only add to the betterment of the game, not subtract from it. I get that some people like to be in control of everything so the simplified SPECIAL system, where you can no longer put individual points in Lockpicking, Explosives, etc. might take away from their experience, however as gamers we're forced to evolve our play style just as the games evolve. There's no need to be afraid of change. It's going to be okay.

    Here are the pros:

    - The story is amazing. I found myself getting so wrapped up in the main story line that I'm pushing hard to complete it so I can start on some side quests. But as a father in real life, I can't imagine putting the main objective on hold to go help out some wanker kid who needs his water source cleaned up.
    - Shooter mechanics have been greatly improved. It doesn't rival a traditional FPS and is nowhere near Destiny good, but considering how bad it's traditionally been, I was ecstatic that I could aim down sights and actually hit something.
    - The graphics are good (not great), but they dynamic colors of everything are what really make a difference. I didn't care for the green tint in FO3 or the Orangish tint in NV. This makes the world vibrant and a little less daunting.
    - The ghouls are creepy as hell. Bethesda really did a great job with this.
    - Crafting system is great, and I love the weapon mods.
    - There are so many more little things that make this game great, but the main takeaway is if you're looking for an immersive world to spend a couple hundred hours in, then FO4 is for you.

    The Bad:
    - There have been a few glitches that I've encountered, and only one that had any real impact on my game. Luckily, I'm a pretty avid saver and it only put me back a few minutes.
    - You'll probably feel pretty lost for the first few hours, however once you get going with the quests they begin rolling in pretty regularly.

    Unsure
    - The settlement feature. I haven't played around with this enough to have an opinion either way. I think I would like it more if I was one of these super-creative people. But I struggled for an hour putting up a fence. Probably one aspect that I won't spend a lot of time with in the future.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Wasteland Utopia. Fallout 4 left me debating if I thought it was a amazing game or mediocre. I enjoyed the world created by Bethesda, I spent over 125 hours playing through and reaching level 68. Explored every inch of map available to. Yet the main story and side content felt like dry toast. At the beginning the story started off decent and put me on a mission that I would "want" to do but upon total completion of it I'm not impressed.
Game play was a joyful experience. The new mechanic of building settlements added a reason for filling my precious storage space with junk. Combat felt like it did in Fallout 3 with some improvements, mostly coming from the modding of weapons and armor. Adding much needed flair to how you wanted to obliterate raiders, ghouls, and super mutants etc etc. I chose not to have a companion mostly due to the fact I found them annoying and they always managed to move into my way when trying to navigate buildings or take a well timed stealth shot.
Visually the game is pleasing but was but through some stress when in the middle of the big cities. Found my self dropping in frame rate when traversing through condensed areas on the map. I did manage to get bugged or glitch a few times while playing, nothing game breaking. Either comical or irritating. Sound in the game was decent quality, especially the classical radio station. Yet I had to turn off the game music due to a bug of nonstop battle music.
Overall I enjoyed Fallout 4 and looking forward to the DLC content coming later. Would I say its a must own right now? Debatable.

I'll begin off saying that Fallout 4 is incredibly fun. It still holds true to Bethesda.

The Fallout series has been known for being the "Skyrim with guns" game. The concept of having so much to do is amazing. You're never without something to do.

    Pros:

-Massive environment. Endless locations to discover and explore.
-Virtually endless. Between the main story line and side quests, the fun never really ends. If quests aren't enough, then exploring is always an option. There's always something to do.
-Good loot system. To get special or "legendary" weapons in Fallout 4 is actually pretty simple. No special tricks to make it complicated. Either find it looting a location while exploring, obtaining it upon completion of a quest, or killing a legendary enemy. Nothing super complicated, but time consuming for sure.
-Good story. The main quest isn't amazing, but interesting and fun to complete for sure.
-Collectibles. If finding legendary weapons isn't enough, there are tons of things to collect like: Bobble Heads, and Magnetizes. Both enhance the players ability and enhance the game play.

    Cons:
-Many glitches. Personally, I've had Fallout 4 completely crash or freeze several times. This is very frustrating because all unsaved progress is lost. In come cases, the save files are corrupted and deleted. Personal experience again... but I lost over 8 hours of game play because my save files either corrupted and disappeared. Very disappointing considering the technology on next generation consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
-Loading screens. The loading times are short and sweet, or never ending. Considering next generation technology, the loading screens should not be as long as they are. Seems like Skyrim loading screens all over again.
-Frame rate. This really isn't terrible, but sometimes Fallout 4 experiences significant frame dips. Sometimes for an extended period of time.

    Breakdown:
Game play: +2/2 (Extremely fun. Seems to be taking a lot of my free time. -0)
Mechanics: +1/2 (Lots of glitches. Frame rate dips can be significant. -1)
Graphics: +2/2 (Not the best, but nothing horrible considering how massive the game is. -0)
Main story: +1/2 (Nothing memorable. At times, the side quests were more fun than the main quests. -1)
Replay ability: +2/2 (The game virtually never ends, there is always something to do. -0)

An outstanding game, but the glitches and forgetful main story really draws away from the game.

    Total: +8/10

I didn't go into Fallout 4 with much expectation. That's not because I didn't like what I saw from pre-release material, it's just that I didn't really follow it much until launch, and that's maybe why I'm enjoying the game a lot more than those who have given it scathing reviews regarding it's story, graphics, and the change of certain systems in-game.

I've played all the previous Fallout games. I enjoyed the changes for what they were in Fallout 3 and thoroughly enjoyed it (probably one of my best xbox 360 experiences). I didn't enjoy New Vegas, I just couldn't get into it. As for Fallout 4, the best I can say is that it's...good. So far, it hasn't taken me to the heights of entertainment as found in Fallout 3 (should I nuke Megaton?) but it is still quite an enjoyable experience...

    Pros

    - The gunplay has been much improved from Fallout 3, and although it doesn't (thankfully) play like a shooter, I felt I had a bit more control when it came to combat. VATS is still included, but now instead of freezing time, it simply slows time down considerably. Many have complained about this, but I like this change - it forces the player to think a bit quicker in these situations.

    - The world of Fallout 4 doesn't seem to be that big. However, there is so much detail crammed into every corner of the game map, and there is always plenty to see and do. The environment is much more colourful and vibrant than that of Fallout 3 and this helps when it comes to exploration, as I always see something of interest in the distance that I want to check out.

    - Graphics - For such a large and complex open world game, I don't expect it to have state of the art graphics - it just couldn't work under that pressure. The character models aren't overly detailed and their animations (especially lip syncing) aren't great. The environment and lighting, however, are fantastic, and for a game like this, the world really is the most important character.

    Cons

    - The story is weak - there's no getting around that. I just didn't really care if my character found his family or not. It had the potential, especially showing how good life was with the character's family before the war, but it never built on that.

    - Choice - this has always been a big part of Fallout, and here it has been neutered considerably. As mentioned in other reviews, you could negotiate many situations - double crossing characters, bribing, intimidating them etc. But this has mostly been stripped out of Fallout 4 and overly simplified, which is a shame.

    - UI - not something a lot of people have talked about, but this really bugs me - the UI on this game is a nightmare. It's ugly, garish and extremely clunky to navigate.

    - Gameplay - this is a funny one - it improves on many of Fallout 3/NV mechanics and is a smoother experience for it, but I just don't seem to be having as much fun as I did in Fallout 3. I don't know if it's because of the story or the world or the characters, but it just doesn't grab my attention like F3 did.

Overall, it's simply a good game. It's not amazing, it's not terrible. There's plenty to do and can be enjoyed, and for that it's worth playing. It's just not as entertaining as previous iterations.

I can't really comment on bug crippling the game etc, because, aside from the odd dialogue-related issue, I haven't really experienced any bugs or performance issues.

Good game, NOT a good Fallout game. Shake your finger at me for not liking change if you want, but there were some things that just did not need to be changed, such as the dialogue system. Story is mediocre at best, but not terrible. Ending was was very disappointing, and so was the lack of choice compared to the Fallout games in the past. Still had quite a lot of fun playing, as the combat is very much an improvement from the past Fallout games, and the armor and weapon customization is very cool, however, the whole settlement thing is something I find to be a little TOO over ambitious fora Fallout game, just doesn't fit for me. All in all, good game, just not a particularly good FALLOUT game. Expand

An absolute triumph. I've come across some very slight graphical glitches here and there but nothing that gets in the way of what a great game this is.

    The good...

1.Excellent post apocalyptic setting. The whole futuristic 50's vibe is refreshing in the RPG genre.
    2. Radio adds so much to the atmosphere there's classic/oldies/quest stations . It just need more songs.
    3. Flexible playstyle. Sniper 1 shot kills. Melee build. Stealth are all viable. Go high tech or medieval.
    4. True open world sandbox. There's a main story, but you do what you want, when you want.
    5. 6 different levels from very easy to survival.
    6. No level caps. So you can keep leveling even after story. 278 levels for all perks and stat boost
    7. Combo Skyrim/old school Elder Scrolls stats/ plus xp system. For varied development.
    8. Building system. It's totally optional, but you have at least 10 bases to build the way you like.
    9. The monetary system. Bottle caps are money.Everything breaks down for crafting. So even junk is good.
    10. The game feels post apocalyptic. Sparse animals. Ammo is kind of scarce. So resources seem valuable
    11. Mods for Guns, Rifles, melee weapons. Mods for all armor types. Again optional but vast.
    12. I've played 72 hours and I'm only level 34/278 (that mean something). Lots to do and replay value. Even if you finish main story arch or level cap you can continue to play.
    13. Some NPC's have similar quest type that is repeatable. So you always have quests.
    14. Bethsaida games always have DLC that add meaningful content if wanted.

    The bad...

    1. Bethsaida bugs. Some crashes. Like all of their games save often.
    2. Last gen graphics. Though they are stylized so you won't really notice.

This is an 8/10 for the genre. But 10/10 compared to what new gen consoles have released so far. Easily the best RPG game I own for XB1. And I own all of the RPG for this console.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is definitely going to be game of the year with a large open world, a large variety of perks, weapons, armor, and so much more.

A Dead Land: The game excels when it comes to its open world. Lots of enemies, new ways explore the world, and it's been reported that Fallout 4's map size is 11 minutes long vertically. And trust me it's large. The game looks gorgeous with a new creation engine. Some people say it isn't graphically up to date but you have to admit, it is a giant leap from Fallout New Vegas (2010). Plus with lots of new radio stations and lots of side quests in which other companions could possibly react towards the actions of these side missions and some may interest you. You can also create your own settlement that you have to keep resourced, defended, and a simple place to let settlers rest and go on with their business.

200-Life Crysis: The game takes place a few minutes or hours "depending how long you create your character" before the bombs have dropped. So you soon enter Vault 111 where a freak experiment goes horribly wrong. Since your 200 year cryogenic stasis, takes you deep into the future in where you have to find your son Shaun who has been kidnapped by the institute a isis like group who kidnaps survivors of the commonwealth. So it is your job to take him back.

Guns n' more bullets: Shooting is more playable. V.A.T.S. is still a thing in this Fallout installment but shooting a gun feels more shooty than your average Fallout game. Your guns no longer break so you can shoot with letting it break but it looses a more survival focused aspect but I didn't like survival focused aspects anyway. You can also customize your amazing little guy into a F***ing beast, with re-naming it, adding new weapon mods that are available to all weapons. Legendary enemies drop legendary loot and it is either amazing or surprising. You can also choose when you want to get a critical strike on an enemy or not. It you get enough hits on enemies, you will build up a bar that will fill up and create an execution command and vats no longer pause the game it will slow it down the game leaving vulnerable to an easy but cheap death, so act fast.

The Uglies returned: Enemies look more disgusting and more terrifying than ever before. With new ones such as bloodbugs and synths. Oh and if you hate deathclaws they're back and deadlier than ever. Enemies with a star next to them represent Legendary enemies. Enemies featured with a skull next to them, f***ing run. You can guess who is the first is to encounter.

Packin' a punch: The amount of base perks built in to the game are over 70 but go a little deeper and you will find over 200 perks. How, they are counted a mini perks to a perk. Let that sync in to your head before moving on. Bobbleheads make a return but a little more impactful than Fallout 3. A little hint the perception bobblehead is the first to be found usually.

The game runs at 1080p, 30fps or so I've heard. Smooth for the most part but sometimes dips but no where below 20fps. Lowest: 24fps that I have seen. Also mods are on Xbox One now. WOOHOO!

The reason I'm not giving this masterpiece a 10/10 is because that would mean it's absolutely perfect. Which I believe no matter how hard a game tries, it will never achieve that level of perfection, that said, Fallout 4 almost reaches that threshold. Nonetheless it still leaves some to be desired. The main quest line is a little short for my taste, but the almost overwhelming amount of side quests makes up for it. I have already sunk 30 hours into this beast, and I'm not ashamed to admit I'm addicted. There are currently some bugs, nothing absolutely game breaking, but annoying nonetheless. The gun play feels incredibly smooth, and it's satisfying to empty your reserves into an enemy's face. While they have completely abandoned skills, they replaced it with perks, a much better system I might add. There is no longer a morality system, but I always felt it was a little bland ,flawed, and albeit patronizing at times. If you need a game to tell you whether you made an ethical decision, well, you get the idea. The weapon/armor customization is to die for. So many possibilities, my favorite being a bayoneted rocket launcher for how impractical it sounds. Power armor feels more like, power armor, not another set of clothing that gives you the highest amount of defense. You will feel like a bad ass in that thing, and Bethesda's balancing solution was to make it run on fusion cores, meaning you can't wear it anytime anywhere. No longer do you have to worry about the condition of your weapon, a feature I'm sad to see go. I can go on and on about the mechanics, but the last one I feel on touching up on is the settlement builder. Needless to say I have spent over 10 hours messing with it, and it's completely optional. I love it, but if you don't there are no large repercussions, but you won't be able to reap their benefits and merits. Lastly, the graphics. Oh yes, they look surprisingly amazing, for a game of this size I mean. I was not expecting it to look this nice. Another reason I decided to to bestow this masterpiece a perfect score is the frame rate drops. It's not the most unstable thing in the world, but it could be a lot better. All-in-all, I love this game. It's a large leap from Bethesda's last entry into this franchise and I still feel I have a lot to experience. To be more precise I would give it a 9.75/10.

I've spent around 80 hours with Fallout 4, and in those 80 hours I've discovered two things: there is allot of good, and a little bit of bad. Fallout 4 is a huge, dense, ambitious, open-world shooter RPG. To put it shortly: buy it. It's great. It's well worth the money. You will not be disappointed. For a more detailed explanation, read on.

Fallout 4 is a huge, dense, ambitious, open-world shooter RPG. To put it shortly: buy it. It's great. It's well worth the money. You will not be disappointed. For a more detailed explanation, read on.
    Pros:
Fallout 4 does many, many things right. From the very moment I started playing I found myself hooked.
-The graphics are quite good, despite what all of the other reviews may say. Granted, the textures are not the best they could be, and the facial animation certainly isn't close to life-like, but overall, the graphics and animations are solid. The moment I first stepped out of the vault and into the wasteland I found myself just looking into the trees, with rays of sunshine peering through them in a manner I haven't seen before. The game features volumetric lighting, which is a fancy term for describing that light will interact with dust/fog/water differently than a clear atmosphere. There are times where the sun shines in combination with the fog, the trees and/or buildings, and it creates a vibe I've never felt in games. Even the overall draw distance is quite good, but it does lack in some places. Overall, for being a big open world game with so many complicated mechanics, the graphics are great.

-The gameplay is soooo much better than the previous Fallouts. Well, I suppose that that is a matter of opinion, but if you're playing Fallout for a nice open-world shooter experience, then they absolutely nailed it. The gun play and mechanics are at least 5 times better than in previous Fallout games, where the shooting felt clunky, and more of a secondary feature. Guns feel like guns should feel in a shooter. The world itself is incredibly dense and filled with meaningful places. No two places look alike, and there is a certain excitement you feel when you find some place new. Some reviewers are complaining that Fallout 4 doesn't feature as many RPG mechanics as previous Fallout games, and I'll have to disagree. While dialogue options have been simplified, the world is still just as robust and dynamic as it was in previous Fallout games, with several options applying to most situations. You can side with multiple different factions, which in turn affect the way the game ends. The game features a rather large weapon and armor modification crafting system, which uses materials gathered from junk scattered throughout the world. This means, as Todd Howard said at E3, that all things have a purpose. In previous Fallout games, there were lots of items in the world, but many (I mean most of them) didn't have a purpose at all. There are many, many quests in Fallout 4, but many of them are the infinitely repeatable quests that you can play for as long as you can stomach them. The quests in the game are flawed in one sense: there isn't as many unique quests in Fallout 4 compared to previous installments in the series. This, however, doesn't effect the overall experience with the game. It still has lots of things to do, people to meet, places to discover, and adventures to be had.
    Cons:
Fallout 4 is an incredibly good game that I look forward to playing for at least the next year or two, but it does have some flaws. None of the items I'm about to point out damage the game in a sense that it isn't worth buying, as many reviewers have implied.
-Glitches. Yes, there is glitches. If you intend on buying a Bethesda game and don't expect a glitch or two, then why don't you go to the strip club and not expect to see boobs while you're at it. Glitches are a fact of life in the modern world of gaming. Some games, at release, are so buggy that they aren't even playable. Fallout 4 is not one of those games. While I did encounter several glitches in my first play through, I did not encounter any that would be considered game-breaking, and some were just downright silly or entertaining. One of the more common ones everyone is finding is a glitch after killing an enemy in V.A.T.S. in which the enemy flies an incredibly unrealistic/awesome distance after killing them.

-Some gameplay mechanics can be much better. Yes, despite this game consuming my life for the past 3 weeks, there are some things they could do better. Many of which will (hopefully) be fixed with a patch in the coming months. The companion system, for example, is not very good. Not in the sense of talking to them, but pretty much everything else. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, your companions felt very valuable. They kicked ass. Often you could just let them do all the light work for you. But in Fallout 4, your companions feel pretty much worthless in combat. Other than Dogmeat. Dogmeat is pretty cool.
-Base Building could be much better. It is still quite extensive, but at times it feels clunky, and seems like it takes much more time to build something simple than it should.
Overall, Fallout 4 is an amazing game. :)

Everything about Fallout 4 seems carefully and quite elegantly done, the map is gorgeous, the characters are well crafted and the enemies are plentiful. I only ever give such a remarkable score to games I believe are the best there is, and Fallout 4 is just that. It leaves the prior trilogy in its wake as it leads the world in how RPG's should be made.
Even for those unaware of the fallout series, I would strongly reccomend buying. Actually, for any gaming enthusiast, this is a must. 10/10

Looking for that next cache of ammo or stimpack that'll keep you alive for the next trek to an abandoned factory is absolutely enthralling. Searching for a spare lamp or circuit board left behind during the apocalypse just so you can add an attachment to your rifle? Engrossing. At anytime you might happen upon something that will end you- so save often. I really haven't seen any bugs yet 15 hours in (though I keep hearing about them?), but there is bound to be a couple. I missed the skill percentages for all about 5 minutes until my first couple level-ups and then realized how infinite the possibilities are for customization. Some things to add/change? A few perks should be tweaked to more usability (why get radiation resistance when ghoulish will make radiation heal you?) and the constantly running out of inventory room should be looked at. I believe fallout 3 or skyrim had some similar problems until they knocked the weight of some common items down. Nuka Colas? Shouldn't be 1 pound each. Etc.     The graphics and map size of the game have exponentially increased; providing hours and hours of interesting and fun things to do. Exploring the world of Fallout in sand-box bliss has always been a staple of the Fallout experience; and it still is (SAVE OFTEN). The new addition of crafting and mods has accelerated this game the most for me, however, it's also clear that Bethesda really worked on the small details to make this a fantastic game; from voice acting to a deluge of easter eggs, this is the Fallout we've all been waiting for.     - Shooting is so much better now. Without being close to a true FPS, it will still satisfy people who likes shooting without the V.A.T.S. system;
    - About the V.A.T.S. system, it was also improved to make it more action oriented. Now the time slows without stopping, helping players without taking out the sense of urgency in battle;
    - Graphics are way better than any other Bethesda game ever made. Compared to other FO and TES games, Fallout 4 is colorful and offers a large array of environments that the player can live in;
    - The new dialogue system (à la Mass Effect) was said to be a downgrade to previous games. It is however very good, thanks to the above average acting by both male and female voice actors. Having a voice also gives an opportunity for Fallout 4 to have more "cinematic" moments and more emotions throughout the game;
    - The story is one of the most detailed ever made by Bethesda;
    - The crafting system and the progression system (SPECIAL) are better than ever with new ways for player to build what they truly want to become;
    - Settlements and Power Armors (as they are now) are pretty good additions too.

The only lacks in the game are probably some minor bugs (that are actually more funny than gamebreaking) and the companion AI (that I feel is not up to what can be done). Fallout 4 is the new definition of RPG in 2015 and is really the peak of the serie. It is the Skyrim of Fallout 3.

Crafting and item hunting is fairly well done, although it would have been much more enjoyable without such a hash item weight limitation.

At the beginning there are really not many interesting questchains. None of the factions seemed that interesting or intriguing to me at first. It does get better the more you progress. The new graphics patch has improved the visuals significantly, the environments look very good. Voice acting is sometimes not that good in german, but good in english.

Many animations and coversation cutscenes are fairly wooden and not really believable. The writing sometimes doesnt seem to be very smart.

The pip boy interface is a bloody nightmare. Locating a specific item is fairly hard and often not the entire name of an item is displayed. Navigating is not intuitive.

The music is quite good, some City tunes are really beautiful.

Overall the game felt a bit like a drag in the beginning, mainly due to the fairly lackluster, generic quests. However, this seems to be a game that gets better the longer you play. After a while the bizzarre world really captivates you quite nicely and the story picks up pace after a while

The spoken dialogue and new conversation style was something I was really against but I stopped caring about it so much as the game went on and I feel like it really enhanced the story, which for the first and second act was really good. While also controversial, I found the new perk system fine and occasionally more intuitive than other editions, although I did find myself wishing for a little more variety in what new abilities they gave me.

The story towards the end lacked as I didn't feel any kind of personal involvement. Things just kept happening around you. Also, the results of your sentence choices rarely have any effect on the overall direction of the conversation. In F:NV alliances could be brokered and factions ignored, but here there seems to be a 'kill everything' approach to all the faction storylines. This is also seen in the general mission variety, which usually boils down to a 'kill everything' checklist.

Oh and of course, bugs. Lots of bugs.

I think Fallout 4 managed to become an enjoyable experience greater than the sum of its parts. Glaring flaws make it far from a perfect game but it is definitely worth the money for its 60+ hours of quality gameplay, For those it really clicks with hundreds more hours can surely be found in the nooks and crannies of the wasteland.

This game is amazing. Never played the previous fallouts but this game joins my top 5 all time list along with MW2, Skyrim, Battlefield Bad Co. 2, and borderlands 2. My only complaint is that after beating the game and reaching 53 there isn't much left for me to do but wait for the DLC to be released.

Fallout 4 is a great game, and surprisingly better with friends nearby. I don't know what's with all these crummy negative reviews saying it's not like New Vegas, that game in itself is the worst Fallout game ever made, not to say it's bad. It's just the worst. All the NPC's are much more lifelike, especially the ghouls, the weapon customization is vast, as well as the power armor modding.Fallout 4 is a great game, and surprisingly better with friends nearby. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would give this game an 8.5 but 9 make more sense than an 8 for this game.
    Pros:
+ It's huge. I'm 60hrs in, discovered 210 locations, finished over 100 quests, and there's still about 1/3 of the map I have no yet explored. Do NOT judge this game based on flat, playable area. This game is very dense.
+ The story great. You have some real tough choices to make and none of them seem like the right one. This is the best story Bethesda has had since Moirrowind.
+ Gameplay is great. The gunplay feels fine and, if you're good at FPS, you can certainly play through the game without VATS with no trouble. Even though they took away the ability to micromanage skill points, this game really takes away the need to min/max on Survival playthroughs. You can build the character you want and still make it through the most difficult content.
+ Voice acting is much imporoved. No obviously recycled voices for any characters.
+ The customization is fantastic. If you get bored with the "same weapons" that is your fault. You can mod any gun you want if you invest the perks.
+ Settlement building is a great meta that will allow someone to keep playing without re-running the same content.
+ There are tons of hidden gems that give the world a lot of character.

    Cons:
    - Companions are useless, annoying, and only good for their quests and being pack mules.
    - Game is GLITCHY. It just is. I haven't had near the bugs that some are complaining about, and none have been gamebreaking so far.
    - Graphics are not a con, but they're certainly not a pro. So I've added them here. The ambient/lighting effects are top notch. Everything else is meh to bad.
    - The radio station is basically the same thing as Fallout 3. There are thousands of useable songs from that era. WIsh they would have expanded this libary more.
    - There are a lot of obvious quality of life improvements that were overlooked. Some are so obvious I simply can't believe they would ignore them.

    Conclusion:
This game is not a 9, nor is it an 8. Everything that makes a Bethesda game so good is right here. If you're looking for something "revolutionary" however, keep looking. It will likely keep you entertained and engrossed longer than any other game on the market today. If Fallout 3 was Oblivion with guns, this is certainly Skyrim with guns. Fallout 4 is a must-buy.

Its a fine game granted I only have about 5 hrs in it but these game crushing bugs are no where to be seen. People need to lighten up you can do way more in FO4 then in any other FO game

I have waited for so long for this game, longer than oblivion to skyrim, it was worth the wait. If you love being a psychopathic, kleptomaniac explorer with a penchant for interior design and a fondness for dogs then this is everything you could want and more. The graphics are not up to the standard of the likes of witcher 3, yet this is offset by the ability to interact with nearly everything in the game. You can scrap down, move, kill, destroy, build, paint and tinker with so much it is nearly overwhelming and it really encourages you to experiment. The satisfaction of clearing your homestead, fortifying it and arming the place to the teeth is akin to animal crossing meets far cry with power armour. You are encouraged not just to have a life within the game, but to build one you care about and defend to the death. The story and voice acting range from functional to flawed to down right funny. Sure no one has threatened to rip off my melon and **** down my neck but a few bad mouthed raiders have given me some reasonable lip. I don't really mind that though because I'm too busy systematically raiding every building, cave and base I can find, locating surprises you could easily miss. I like that because if I play again, as with FO3 I know I'll find something cool I missed the first time around. Don't listen to the haters, they're just bitter they are nearly a decade older than when FO3 came out and don't have the time, patience or creativity anymore that the game requires you to Invest to reap its richest rewards. I'm literally just getting started and foresee many hundreds of hours of joyful wasteland exploits in the months to come. One point off for the graphics and recycled songs, 9 points on for making me a truly happy gamer. Expand

I too am a long time Fallout fan going back to the first two Fallouts on PC. I am also a HUGE Bethesda fan, playing the Elder Scrolls series since Morrowind. I am also a HUGE Bethesda fan, playing the Elder Scrolls series since Morrowind. Morrowind and Oblivion are some of my favorite RPGs of all time. With all that said Fallout 4 has been an incredible game with many interesting and fun elements. For all of you who don't like to read I'm going to do you a favor and break it down into four points: 1. Gameplay 2. Sound 3. New Features 4. Problems I have with it

    1. The gun gameplay is superb with so many guns and customizations to choose from no two guns feel the same. Sure the controls aren't as snappy or controllable as Battlefied or COD but that's hardly to be expected from an RPG... VATS is as helpful as always providing a helpful slow down to the madness during combat but now it keeps time going which adds an element of risk to your selection. Will they move in time to avoid your shot or dodge behind a piece of cover? Lastly because of the viewing distances sniping and long range combat is better than ever before. I personally like to run a ranged character specializing in sneak, perception, and agility. To conclude, the gameplay is classic Fallout at its best, refined and tuned to keep up with modern gaming but not too different to loose that frantic Fallout feel.

    2. So many of you have complained about the voice acting for the main characters and that it is a travesty equal to treason and punishable by death. Why?? When did having a voiced character become a bad thing? I must have been out of town and missed the memo. Just as many great games (Dragon Age Inquisition, Mass Effect, BioShock just to name a few) have done in the past Fallout has given a voice to our character. Maybe some of you don't like it because it takes away from your connection to the character? What ever it is if it really bothers you that much GET OVER IT. It is not a big deal its just a voice and doesn't take away from the gameplay and if it really bothers you that much you have my permission to plug your ears and hum a tune every time your character talks. Moving on, the music score is classic drawing much of the music that made FO3 great and adding some new classics.

    3. Customization out the wazzoo, Settlements, Facial sculpting, power armor customization, customization of weapons, customization, customization oh yeah and customization. There are so many things in this game that you can change and make your own! This leads to many different possibilities for dramatically different play throughs. Something to me that makes Bethesda RPGs so great are the many different customizations of character, weapons, skills, armor, and even story and FO4 delivers this over and over. Another new feature to add to this list are good graphics. I know that some of you will think "Wahh good graphics aren't a new feature wahhh" and I will respond by saying um yes they are. Maybe many of you forgot or just have issues with memory but FO3's graphics SUCK!! Seriously go back and try playing now you will be amazed at how poorly the graphics look. Want to know why? Because it is a massive game! you cant expect a game that huge to have photorealistic graphics (at least not yet). Here is a revelation that will amazing you... FO4 does have good graphics! Sure its not going to win any awards for its graphics but its on par with every other massive game Bethesda has come out with. So until all you people who whine about graphics get a masters degree in game/graphic design, can it.

    4. Lastly here are my problems: it wen the route of Skyrim. Bethesda has done this thing recently where it is trying to appeal to you silly casual gamers (what ever that is) and has dumbed down their game. Personally I thought Skyrim was only decent and lacked a TON of cool, albeit, more complicated features oblivion did (off the top of my head spell creation). Bethesda has done it again with FO4 where they have taken out some of the features that will in the long run make each of the characters you create more unique and lost some of its depth in gameplay. An example of this is the fact that now all you have for skills is the S.P.E.C.I.A.L system instead of each skill being leveled up with use. This makes it so that you don't have to learn to use skills before you put points into them and makes your character feel over powered right off the start. Secondly I wish they hadn't made power armor so abundant and so accessible right away... Power armor should be something you work to and establishes you as a king/queen of the wasteland later in the game.

To recap this lengthy review (thanks to those who actually read this even though I doubt it was many). FO4 is an INCREDIBLE game that is only going to improve over time with updates and DLC. Give it a chance, stop being a cry baby, and actually try playing it through and you might realize that you have a piece of gaming history.

I am loving the game so far and am confused at the low scores honestly. Granted I am not very far into the game yet, but I will go ahead and rate it from what I have seen and adjust later if I feel I need to. I am happy that they kept to the same type of gameplay and formula they used for Fallout 3 and changed/added new features that flow very smoothly. A lot of reviews seem to be saying it's the same as Fallout 3, but I find enough differences to keep my interest and find the changes fun which is the main thing.

The graphics are improved over Skyrim, and may not be quite on par with some other current gen games, but I really do not care it works and is a massive RPG game(graphics beat Dragon Age Inquisition by far at least). The combat is fun as well, though I am annoyed at how hard it is to aim down the sites and will dock a half point for this annoyance that I have ran into so far. I am also pretty disappointed about the removal of the item degradation, and knock the other point off for that bringing my rating to a 8.5/10. Overall the positive changes outweigh the two negatives I listed, so I will round up to a solid 9/10 and will continue to enjoy this great addition to the Fallout serious!

When I got my xbox one, I actually wanted the Madden 25 bundle instead. After playing Fallout 4 for ONE HOUR, I was completely amazed. It's beautiful, large, enveloping, and unsettling as hell at points. The odd graphical hiccup is noticeable and funny, but it's an otherwise near perfect game and a monument to this current generation of gaming.

The game has 70 base perks with 229 of different ranks and each do something based on each special attribute it is in, The special system and perks can help give a type of class build to your character.

There are a number of new features that have come to Fallout 4 to make it one of the greatest Fallout's in the franchise.
    1. You can now customize your weapons. melee and armour with mods to suit your playstyle. There are also brand new weapons in the game.
    2. The map is really big
    3. Power Armour isn't something you equip. Power Armour is basically a tank suit.
    4. More dialogue then Fallout 3 and Skyrim combined
    5. Weapons now have can do melee damage (You can bash your gun on an enemy)
    6. NO MORE LEVEL CAP
    7. You can now sprint
    8. V.A.T.S now slows down time + no more random critical hits
    9. You can fly in vertibirds

Overall with all my hours put in to this fantastic game, I highly recommend this game to previous Fallout fans and newcomers to the franchise.

One negative I have with the game is that there doesn't seem to be a way to be evil. In other words, you have to be a good guy or gal. I usually don't play that way anyways, but I've always liked how in Fallout games you can decide what kind of person you want to be.

Best combat system in a bethesda game to date, combat is far more fluid and fun.

Massive immersive world, everything from weather to random encounters
Top notch crafting, the best I have seen in a RPG game to date.
I constantly saw myself looking for the plentiful collectibles in this game, simply to see every little detail.
There is also a lot more then simply combat, the settlement idea is a grand idea, and I hope to see it in the elder scrolls 6 instead of the on-rail hearth fire house building.
The quests are dynamic and interesting.

    Here are my only problems
Speech is a bit pointless,as no matter the choice you make in the speech, other then intimidating/bribing/persuading.
And the perk/skills system, which isn't a massive deal,I just wish they went more with skyrim or the past games instead.

Overall it is a outstanding game, and I believe the problems aforementioned will be fixed with mods.
