A fun and memorable experience. I definitely recommend picking it up if you are in the mood for some more post-apocalyptic exploration.

The quick and somewhat forgettable mission material is buoyed by strong crafting elements and a more player-oriented approach to companions.

Fallout 4’s first DLC Automatron sets a good precedent for content coming out of Bethesda to support the game. There’s plenty here to not only explore once, but also to build multiple robots to take on adventures through the wasteland. If you’ve done literally everything else on the map, it might not keep you going for long, but for everyone else you’ve got a fleshed out and thorough reason to jump back in.

Despite being brief and a bit redundant on the argument side, Automatron adds quite a lot to the Fallout 4 universe and the price is just right.

Automatron, the first DLC for Fallout 4, concentrates its focus on crafting robots to pleasure the players that spend hours looking for the perfect companion.

Fallout 4's first DLC offering adds some interesting elements to the established formula, but it's over in a blink and still just as buggy.
  7. Whether you should pick up Automatron might end up coming down to how much you dig robots. If you can live without them, you can probably just skip it. If, on the other hand, you want to build your own lethal automaton companion to take with you out into Far Harbor’s irradiated sea a couple of months from now (as I know I do), then Automatron becomes significantly more compelling.

Bethesda expands the Fallout 4 with a consistent robot creation system but the story is weak, the content offered is little and the robot creation could have been much bigger and more ambitious, especially talking about the robot AI behaviour.

Automatron will definitely make season pass owners feel pleased with their purchase, and while those considering buying it as a one-off may want to ponder the length before slapping down some cash, ultimately any Fallout fan is going to be entertained.

Whilst there’s nothing here in this DLC that will wow you, the quest line will keep you busy for a couple of hours at least and being able to build and customise your own robots to your heart's content is a nice addition.

Automatron’s campaign isn’t very long or particularly interesting, but the longterm effects to the Fallout 4 sandbox are sure to be very interesting, especially as players get to carry their Frankenstein creations to upcoming DLC campaigns.

GIves a reason to dust off the game disc if you're one like I am who did everything in the basegame and got all loot and whatnot.

Starts off pretty promising, but once you get to the final mission, it gets really repetitive and you spend a lot of time meandering, which I thought took away from this DLC and keeps me from giving it an 8+.

The robot creation is a neat addition, though, I don't necessarily know how many would really put THAT much time into it, but being able to make Ada your companion and modify her is neat. I guess I expected a more immersive experience as I finished this DLC in 1 hour and 58 minutes, but I guess it being $10 shows it wasn't going to be massive, but it's better than starting off Fallout 4 DLC with a flop I suppose. Ready to see what else they have planned for us.

So why exactly deserve this statement and score? you might ask. Well let me bring out my trolley full of issues for this DLC.

    1. How do you want to approach this DLC good, good or good? Now where this was more prominent in the base game release. There is a lack of choice and RPG elements once again present in Automaton. As the same white picket fence responses are once again forced upon you, even the sarcastic options sound like they were written by Mr Rodgers himself making the entire story approach feel wooden and lifeless.

    2. Hope you like crafting!. With Automatron comes more and more building, and considering that Preston Garvey sucked the enjoyment out of settlement building with those tedious minutemen quests. It was no surprise that i ended up forcing myself to use the games "new exciting feature" to progress further into the main story which only led to future disappointment

    3. Want a new companion?, well your now forced to use her anyway. Automatron introduce ADA, a highly distracted, buggy and weak companion that about 70% of the time just ends up knocking itself out, where Danse or Piper would have been my original choice the story drives to a staggering holt during the final act in which you are forced to finally make use of her, that is if she doesn't glitch into an object or stop mid-action during the endgame

    4. The couldn't care less about what happens. This plot was cliche to the point where it gave Michael Bay a run for his money, Bad guy wanted to be a good guy, check; Robots have feeling too, check; World would be better off without humans, check. The list goes on, it's honestly giving me a headache just thinking about it.

    Verdict: save you're money
